In this segment, Donna Lee is joined by Urology Specialists' own Dr. Jacomides and his longtime colleague, Ryan Encinas. Ryan is a holistic health nurse who specializes in functional medicine, an approach to healthcare that looks beyond surface symptoms for the root cause of illness. Ryan helps his patients return to a healthy baseline by educating them on a range of holistic concepts like cellular metabolism and nutrition, mineral balancing, and stress management. If you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, try functional medicine. To learn more about Ryan's practice or schedule your consultation, email him at atx.holisticrn@gmail.com. You can also find him on Instagram at _holistic_hub and Facebook at ATX Holistic.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everybody.

(00:00):
Welcome back to the Armor Men'sHealth Show. Dr. Mystery
stepped away because, you know,he is got like six kids and he
is got two grandkids and he isjust a busy dude and he is a
surgeon. But I thought I'dbring in one of our favorite
partners, Dr. Edy's . WelcomeDr. Jackee .

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Hey, thank you Donna. It's been a while . I

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Know. Where have you been?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Um, I've been with Mystery six kids, .

Speaker 1 (00:18):
I've

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Had three of my own and thankfully no grandkids
that I know about or they'redead. But , um,

Speaker 1 (00:23):
You're a nanny on the side .

Speaker 2 (00:24):
That's right. No , what? Don't say that. Come

Speaker 1 (00:27):
On , Dr . Nanny .
Well, I appreciate you comingin. Um , Dr. Mis will be back
in the next segment or two, butyou brought in a friend of
yours, so I wanted to get toknow . Yes.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I wanted to introduce a friend of mine,
Ryan and us . Ryan, welcome tothe studio

Speaker 3 (00:38):
And thank you. It's, it's gorgeous . I

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Love it. This is a professional sits right in
outfit. You can see we spent alot of no, no expense spared,
you know, with our , uh, studiohere. Ryan and I have known
each other for, gosh, at least10 plus years I would say.
Yeah. And , um, you know, he'shuge . All worked

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Together.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah. We working , uh, as a , he was my main
circulating nurse. Mm-hmm .
. And then , um,you know, then we all kind of
went different places and wefound each other again in some
other hospitals. And theneverywhere I go it's like a
cold sweat that couldn't goaway. , I'm back. He ,
he's , he's back. Keeps comingback and so, and then he's
telling me a little bit aboutwhat he's doing that's not
related to our day-to-day grindof medicine and operating and

(01:15):
everything. And so I thought itwould be perfect for the radio
show. Mm-hmm. .
And so you can tell us a littlebit about a T X holistic hub,
if you can. Yeah .

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Tell us all

Speaker 3 (01:22):
About it. Uh , thank you. It's basically your
holistic hub. I'm droppingknowledge for everything from
mindset to nutrition and tryingto put it all in one place from
people. It's a lot of , uh,research and it's a lot of
inspirational mindset topics, but , uh, a strong background
in nutrition. Mm-hmm .
for food as themedicine is the underlying
factor there.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
So people use the word functional medicine. Um, I
don't know what that means. Uh, tell me a little bit more.
Why, what's the function? Whatare we talking about here?

Speaker 3 (01:51):
For me, it's a holistic function, looking at
the body as an entire ecosystemwhere we can only really, you
can't really focus on just theliver because the kidneys are
affected or the brain'saffected or the gut's affected.
Mm-hmm. . Sounderstanding more of the
interplay and how basicallyeverything comes down to
metabolic functions, cellulardysfunction, and then it just
kind of manifests in whateverorgan or body system. But you

(02:12):
start correcting it at acellular level with nutrition,
then the body tends to healitself.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
You know, people get very myopic about this . Say, I
I I have this low T problem andit's, or that it's diabetes
that runs in my family and Iuse a line that, no , it's
because nobody runs in yourfamily. You need to actually do
something. You get off yourbottom and go actually
exercise and then think about, you know, to your point about
food and, and , and what thatdoes. 'cause I mean, it is what
we are, you know?

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Absolutely. I mean our, our minerals literally
come from the sun from thestars. Mm-hmm .
Adam smashed and created a ,some new pieces on the periodic
table and that's what we alllife needs for, you know, keep
living.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
We're getting molecular 11, right ? We're
we're getting like the periodictable. I wish I had it in here.
I could be. Alright . Realquick. What's periodic element
number 35? No, I'm kidding. Oh, I would've failed that. We're
all , we're all, we're allhaving PT bacon . Is it bacon?
You said bacon? No , it's oneof my favorites .

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It's , so tell us about food as medicine. 'cause
we've had a , a previousfunctional medicine provider on
in the past who used to workwith us . Raffa Ula . And she
spoke about food as medicineall the time. And I'm
fascinated with this idea. Soit's basically what you put in
your body.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah. It's um, to my understanding now, it's less
about calories in , caloriesout as more about mineral
content. You have your , a lotof people don't even understand
your electrolytes are mineralsor macro minerals intracellular
inside your cell . Your maintwo are magnesium and potassium
and they have a negative ioniccharge. And then you , outside
of your cell you have , uh,sodium and calcium, the main

(03:41):
macro minerals that areelectrolytes. Those get outta
balance then disease happens.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Hmm . Alright . So who, who's gonna come see you
like a chemist or ? Um, 'cause you know , my daughter
wants to be a TA for chemistrynext year. Who , uh, whose
electrolytes need to bebalanced more. What is your
ideal patient that you thinkabout?

Speaker 3 (03:59):
I mean, anyone who's looking to take back control of
their health and has a chroniccondition. That could be
anything from I B Ss to , uh,fatigue. It's just trying to
understand how to eat better.
You have to unlearn a lot ofour cultural programming to
understand that whole food isthe medicine and a lot of our
processed food, all of ourprocessed food is pretty much

(04:21):
trash and it's gonna make yousick in the long run. And if
you don't pay for food nowyou're gonna pay for hospital
bills later. Ooh , that's true.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
So, so what do you eat, Brian ? I mean, you've
lost some weight. You look likeyou're healthy, you know, and
you got a six pack . I know'cause you're always showing it
on Facebook. But go ahead, tellme what, I should never go to
any kind of fast food food now

Speaker 1 (04:38):
You're always showing it on Facebook .

Speaker 3 (04:38):
This weird juice.
This weird juice that I havesitting right here.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah . What is that

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Juice ? Yeah, that's, that's actually a
radish mixed green spinach ,uh, frozen , uh, organic
berries, blueberries,strawberries, raspberries. Um,
there's cayenne crushed redpepper, salt, potassium from
cream of tartar, which is purepotassium. Okay, wow . Um, and
a little bit of a beet and alittle bit of a carrot and a
whole squeezed lemon. And Idrink that daily. Wow .

Speaker 2 (05:03):
And you made this yourself

Speaker 3 (05:04):
In a blender

Speaker 2 (05:05):
With individual elements . You did not buy it
at uh , some whole foods orsomething. Correct.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Are you feeling bad about the diet Coke you drank
earlier? Dr. J ?

Speaker 2 (05:12):
No, I go full Coke Dr. Pepper. Are you
kidding me? No ,

Speaker 3 (05:15):
That's my hangover cure.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
I'm thinking about all the beers that I've had,
but I naturally made them andimported 'em in my own mouth .
Oh, okay. Um, so, so again, Imean, how do you test for these
electrolytes? You do lab testsor what , what is kinda the
workup that you do to find outwhat, what's going on with my
imbalances?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
It's an intake form.
I need detailed informationabout your diet, about your
sleep habits, about yourmorning routine. Do you get on
your phone instantly? Uh,'cause it's also about stress.
Stress plays such a hugeimportant role in how much
minerals your body uses whenyour endocrine system, your
hypothalamus, thous , thesethings that make your emotions,
your hormones. Mm-hmm .
take so muchenergy to make that burns

(05:50):
minerals. So if you're alreadyeating bad fuel and then you
have a ton of stress, you'reburning the candle at both
ends. Mm-hmm . .

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Right. Well, if you have no time, frankly I'm not
gonna, I dunno how you do itthen. I mean, I'm rushing to
get to the operating room inthe morning and you're, you're
doing the same. And it's like, who's got time for this carrot
stuff? You know, make it thenight before, I guess

Speaker 3 (06:07):
We're gonna make it . Yeah, I Exactly, I I make it
, uh, when I come home and itput it in the fridge and just
take it right outta the fridgein the morning. I bet

Speaker 1 (06:14):
He's more disciplined than we are with
our food decisions. Oh, well

Speaker 2 (06:17):
I bet , , I , you know, the ,
the go home, what are weeating? I don't know what's
what there ,

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Let's forget our Whataburger. I still enjoy.
It's all about moderation,right ? Oh , good . Just like
con since consistency withanything. Yeah. Just like
working out. The first time youwent and loaded up a barbell
and did a squat, it was hardand you were sore. Right. Um,
fasting or learning how to eatmore nutritionally dense food
is consistency. It takespractice. Mm-hmm.
and it , the more someone doesit, the easier it's gonna be in

(06:44):
the long term . That goes withany skill really in life. So
learning how to eat this way isno different. So

Speaker 2 (06:49):
I've gotta think most of this is not so much lab
testing as much as it is justreally getting to know the
person that you got in front ofyou to say, okay, what do you
do? What are you eating? Andthen just really correcting all
that stuff. Whereas, you know,we have our health coach in our
office, we certainly supplementthat with labs. Is there
something, I mean, obviouslythe , you know, we want to be
less stressed and mm-hmm .
, you know, richer and all these great
things. Yeah . But I've gottathink at some point it's a

(07:11):
programming gonna put somebodyon a certain dietary product
and and maybe do you adjust itfor the patient , uh, to, to
what they wanna do?

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Absolutely. There's , uh, what

Speaker 2 (07:19):
They can do, you know?

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Yeah. There's nuance to everyone and that's kind of
the trick of being a good , uh,practitioner, provider or even
salesman is understanding whoyou're talking to, what
resonates with them. Do I needto explain diet or stress from
a more scientific standpoint ordo I need to explain it from a
more mindset yoga, you know, breath work standpoint. It's

(07:40):
just how to, what resonateswith that person? And that's
kind of this overarchingproject for Holistic Hub is, I
don't have all the answers, butI'm gonna get you to baseline
and we'll wait on doing labsbecause chances are you're
stressed out and that canaffect your lab values, redox
proxy, and then you're noteating right. So let's get you
to baseline for a month or twoand then see if there's still a
problem. If there's still aproblem, then yeah, I outsource

(08:02):
and go to whatever modality orpractitioner resonates with
them. And that's, that's thenetwork that I've been building
for many years.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
What about , um, like cancer patients? We
certainly see those challenges.
Um, you know, when something isactively mm-hmm . You know ,
cannibalizing you in a way and,and everything is completely ,
uh, is there, have you hadexperience with , uh, certain
prostate cancer or kidneycancer or anything that really
does a number on our end from ,for our listeners?

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Uh , yeah. I'm currently working with a
patient who has prostatecancer. Just did his first
round of chemo. Um, but wecompletely turned his labs
around in a month. He was nowtaken mind, he was already very
healthy. We just augmented whathis diet was and cut out a
little bit more and added somemore minerals through , um,

(08:49):
Shila , which is like aplant-based tar that has 84
carbon bound minerals in it.
And what does that mean? Carbonmelon means bioavailable. It's
naturally occurring, so yourbody's able to use it
instantly. It doesn't have tochange it to be able to use it
like a , a synthetic or aprocessed food. What

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Is it called again?

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Jit

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Jitt .

Speaker 2 (09:08):
That sounds like a cuss word. . You know ,
we have

Speaker 1 (09:10):
To bleep that out.
It's ,

Speaker 3 (09:11):
It's actually , it's known as , uh, Ayurvedic
Viagra. It's been around forover a thousand years. It comes
from the Himalayan Mountains.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
I knew there'd be a connection. Yeah , there it is.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yeah. Well, you know, you know St . Straw
. I wish you could allsee the gesture that made .
Well, I , I gotta go topharmacies , uh, rather than ,
uh, Himalayans to get my , uh,natural , natural
Viagra . Uh , Ryan, tell us ,uh, in the brief period little
time we have left , um, howdoes one get in to see you? How
do we find you? I know it seemslike that's the most first step

(09:42):
about running something likethis. How do we get the
customer to the , to the

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Provider? Easiest way is to email me , um, atx
dot holistic rn@gmail.com. Um,you can, if you're on social
media, Instagram is underscoreholistic underscore hub and
Facebook is a TX spaceholistic. You can book an
appointment and get a freediscovery call and I'll talk

(10:06):
your ear off for 30 minutes ,uh, or longer mm-hmm .
and if not, we'lldo a consult form and I'll get
your whole health history andyour sleep and wake habits and
diet and get you on the trackto empowerment

Speaker 2 (10:16):
To six pack abs.
Yeah . Alright , Ryan. Hey,thanks a lot for coming in
today. I appreciate it . It'salways great to see you, my
friend. Yeah ,

Speaker 3 (10:21):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
