Harvey Silkovitz doesn't just dominate on Jeopardy—he inspires. Despite battling Parkinson's disease, our friend swept categories and won over $20,000, showing incredible mental fortitude when physical challenges might have slowed others down.

Deal or No Deal Island brings Philip Solomon's journey to a satisfying conclusion with a $75,000 payday. We celebrate his authentic representation, particularly how he opened up about his experiences with stuttering and bullying. As fellow game show contestants ourselves, we appreciate how he maneuvered against seasoned reality veterans like Stephanie and David, maintaining his integrity throughout the competition while still playing strategically.

Survivor delivers what might be the most chaotic tribal council we've ever witnessed. A perfect storm of events—Justin losing his vote on a journey, Mary winning the Shot in the Dark, and a tie vote—created an unprecedented situation where Cedric had sole power to determine who went home. His baffling decision to eliminate his closest ally might rank among the worst strategic moves in Survivor history, leaving us literally shouting at our television screens.

"The Floor" continues to deliver entertaining moments, including a contestant who shockingly couldn't identify Tom Hanks—prompting us to run through his iconic filmography from Forrest Gump to Toy Story in disbelief. Meanwhile, MLB heads to Japan with the Cubs and Dodgers playing in a beautifully customized Tokyo Dome complete with authentic stadium elements from Wrigley Field and Dodger Stadium.

Join us next week for our comprehensive MLB season preview with special guest Nicholas Pepin from Pop Culture Roulette as we break down every team and make our predictions for the upcoming baseball season! Have you ever experienced a tribal council as chaotic as this one? Let us know in the reviews!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Around the Bases, the pop culture and
sports podcast, with your host, charlie Seymour, and I'm Tim
Sterberg.
Hit it, nick.
Welcome back to another awesomeweek on Around the of aces, the

(00:28):
pop culture and sports podcast.
Charlie, how you doing, buddy?

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I'm doing good.
How are you?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
doing, I'm, I'm doing great.
I mean I I've been busy goingto spring training, having a
good old time enjoying baseball, which we'll talk about later
you can say that.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
You can say that again've been gone.
How many stadiums have you beento now?

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Oh God, six, I think.
No, wait, wait, no four.
Okay, been to four stadiumsWent to, of course, clover Park,
which is where the Mets play inPort St Lucie.
Went to Cacti Park, which is inWest Palm Beach, which which is
the home of the nationals andthe astros, and then went to

(01:07):
roger dean stadium and jupiter, which is the home of the boo
cardinals and the marlins, and,uh, went across to the west
coast to um jet blue park, whichis the home of the boston red
sox.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
So that's kind of what we know now when you say
west coast how far are wetalking?

Speaker 1 (01:20):
like driving wise two , two hour drive about two hours
fort, myers.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, I know, it's not california, right you.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
that's not the furthest one.
You did right.
We're talking like driving wise.
Two hour drive about Two hours.
Fort Myers yeah, I know it'snot.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
California.
That's not the furthest one.
You did right, didn't?
One of them you did was like athree hour ride, or three and a
half.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Not this year but previously.
Yeah, we went up to Tampa tothe Orioles home because we've
talked about this the Oriolesare my American League team, so
I had to see the Orioles and uh,yeah, that's way before Adley
Rushman you know, and theOrioles a little little history
to a little little trivia, as welove here Um the.

(01:54):
Orioles used to share a springtraining facility in Fort
Lauderdale with the New YorkYankees.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
And I used to go.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
So yeah, back in Cal Ripken Jr's days.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Shout out.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Rosie, who's a big fan of Cal Ripken Jr.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Speaking of trivia and Orioles trivia, you know
something that was in the popculture realm this week that was
close to your heart because youknow them personally.
But Cal Ripken Jr did not play2,130 consecutive games.
Lou Gehrig did.
That's the record that Ripkenbroke, which you and I knew.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
Yeah, so um my friend , my longtime friend, harvey
Silkovitz who, by the way, hekilled.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
That that was which I don't know how.
That was the $200 question, buthe got every.
He swept the category.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
The and not just the category.
That episode he dominated like.
He literally ended the episodewith like 30 grand.
I mean going into finaljeopardy the other players and
one was a nine time champ, eighttime champion that he defeated
um.
Unfortunately, you know, hekind of uh, he lost his momentum
in the second game and hedidn't continue, but I mean he

(03:03):
won over twenty thousand dollars.
Harvey is a is a real kind ofum inspiration because he has
parkinson's disease.
So he was sitting there withparkinson's and, which is very
difficult my dad unfortunatelylost my dad to parkinson's
related um symptoms.
It's not easy, so major on topof kudos.
Kudos to Harvey.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, that was impressive, he was dominating.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Absolutely, and great job.
I know Harvey just from whowants to be a millionaire.
Back in 99, 2000 on ABC'swebsite, when websites were in
infancy, they used to have amessage board of all the
different shows.
So you can go Dharma and Greg, right, and you go.
Who wants to be a millionaire?
And that's where the fans hungout, on these threads, these
message boards.

(03:47):
Uh, it wasn't real-time chat butit was close enough and we just
had a, a group called thegypters, because, um, the first
contestant that got zero dollars.
We called them, they got gypped, so we called ourselves the
gypters and harvey was part ofthat group.
So we would always like be thephone game is coming or
auditions are coming.
And because of that grouphelped me tremendously to get on

(04:10):
the show because I knew thatthe Savannah auditions were
coming.
I also there was a guy shoutout JB at the time.
He created this wood board.
He was a he's a carpenter withbuttons and I practiced the
fastest finger, my dexterity, onthose.
So, yeah, it was just a greatgroup of people and you could
say that was the assist to getyou on.
Huh, absolutely, you nailed thatfast finger, that's how I knew

(04:33):
steve perry, my phone, a friendtoo through that group, um, but
yeah, it's very cool.
I, I listen.
I am not a jeopardy person.
I cannot even attest to goingon that show.
So anybody who can do that, kudos to you.
Now I have a decent amount ofpop culture knowledge.
Pop culture Jeopardy I couldprobably do, but the wide range
of stuff that's required byregular Jeopardy mm-mm, and plus

(04:57):
my recall of Quick, quick, quick is not the greatest, but
you know, maybe it's age, allright.
So we went.
That was, uh, I would call thatbatting practice.
Okay, we went through a littlebatting practice.
We are going to talk about afellow um contestant of ours you
, you and I, philip solomon, whois on the season of deal or no

(05:20):
deal island.
As we've talked aboutthroughout this season of deal
or no deal island, I would saythis is his episode and maybe
not well in some good way, but,um, yeah, philip I, I, I think
he did, I think he did great, great, great season great, great
season, awesome run.

(05:41):
Represented himself very well.
Um didn't come off as anasshole.
Um, for lack of a better term, didn't know he stood up for
himself yeah, he really didagainst two reality juggernauts.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
He didn't know, david I don't think he knew yeah, he
didn't know david's status atthe time.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I don't think anybody other than poverty knew.
But um, you know, to go upagainst poverty, for example,
and to smartly befriend her fora little bit.
Um, he played a great game andhonestly 75 000 if you told me
you know, listen, you know ifI'm on the show.
When you say, hey, here's 75grand, you want to go home, okay

(06:22):
yeah, and that was I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I'm sure they also get something, like you know,
per dm or whatever, like so thatwas just on top, yes, and pb I
mean that's basically that's,that's like top of the and
that's solid, it's very solid.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
He, he did well, finished in the top five not to
mention the fact that he ismiles ahead of getting on a show
like the Traitors compared tous, you know.
So I mean, that's pretty.
There's some currency there, Ithink, with, you know, getting
on a show like Deal or no DealIsland that he can use later on.
So what did you think of theepisode?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Honestly, it was more interesting than some of the
other ones.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I thought honestly david was a jerk, though.
I mean you.
I mean I understand lying aspart of the game, but, dude,
come on.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yeah, like there should be honor the game that
there are pretty much allsetting themselves up where
they're gonna lie to somebody.
You know you're making promisesto multiple people.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
You can't keep them all and, based on the previews
for next week, I think it mightcome back to bite them in the
ass.
Um, because the players comeback.
You remember that challenge alot in season one when they're
on like the bridge I do rememberthat and it very well could.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Yeah, there's definitely multiple people that
are, will be or are alreadyupset would you say too.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
I have a question for you.
Would you say?
Ck is the equivalent of Amyfrom season one.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
I mean, she's so annoying, like so annoying so
yes, but what I will say is, Idon't know how, but she's kind
of like Maneuvered through themiddle the whole way and all of
a sudden she's in the final four, like how did that happen?

Speaker 1 (08:08):
yeah, see, so like and people both sides didn't
like her yeah, and that's whatI'm saying.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
She was like a villain from multiple people for
multiple weeks and to make itthis far, honestly is honestly,
it's quite impressive it is.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
And to your point.
I mean honestly is is, honestly, it's quite impressive.
It is, and quite you know, liketo your point.
I mean you can be as unlikableas as possible and trust me
based on what I see out thereyes, like dr will, but if they,
if they're strategic and they'regood game players, it doesn't
matter, like you know, andhonestly, uh, if you have a show
full of 15 likable people, that's not good television.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
I don't care what like no one wants to watch that.
All there needs to be someoneto you know heels, yeah, yeah, a
hundred percent.
You know, throw some, throwsome gas on the fire.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
And you know, listen, even on a show like the Goat,
which we watched last year.
I mean the greatest of all timethere were some heels.
On a show like the goat whichwe watched last year, I mean the
greatest of all time there weresome heels on that show.
I mean even on a show whereit's all the good guys, so to
speak.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Yeah, I mean I love dave on for that reason and we
also sat here on a show, quoteunquote of house of villains and
we've sat here and saidmultiple people we don't feel
fit the villain category because, just like your original point,
it wouldn't be fun if everybodywas, you know, an ass also.
So exactly.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
No one wants to watch that, like Teresa, teresa
wasn't.
I don't think she was really avillain.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
I mean she literally was too nice and that's why she
left but it did make, like yousaid, to your point.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
It made the show more enjoyable to watch her kind of
and that you need that chemistrya little bit.
And you need to your point, itmade the show more enjoyable to
watch her kind of and that youneed that chemistry a little bit
and you need to have likepeople to root for right, I mean
that's.
I mean you don't see villainsas much on game shows, although
I could name a couple um, but um, I will not.
I had people text me, by theway, saying who are you
referring to?
Not saying um, not saying um,secret is safe, um, but you know

(10:08):
you don't necessarily see thaton a game show because game
shows are all about fun, happy, yay, but um, on reality shows,
where you have these longextended arc stories, it's
necessary and honestly, I, youknow, you and I met philip.
We talked with philip inatlanta.
I didn't know anywhere near asmuch about philip as I learned

(10:31):
from watching deal or no dealisland, even though we were with
philip in person I mean Ilearned a lot about him.
I didn't know about the bullying, I didn't know about the
stuttering, I didn't know thathistory of him and it made me
you know I loved him already.
He's really one of the nicestpeople I met in Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Besides, you, and it was really cool to see him
posting with Mitch from Survivor.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Love that, love that Mitch, of course and we 'll talk
about Survivor a little bitlater but Mitch is a stutterer,
he stutters and he'srepresenting that very well.
And you know that's what I sayto my.
You know, I advocate for kidswith disabilities.
I always tell my students itdoesn't matter what you think,
what your friends think you cando, it matters what you think

(11:15):
you can do and what you know youcan do.
And I love this representationthat we're seeing on television
of people with disabilities thatare showing in, not just Mitch,
people on the autism spectrumthat are going on these shows.
It really shows these kids thatyou know, listen, I can be, I
can see myself on television.
Um, we had that a couple ofyears ago on big brother.

(11:37):
Um, I forgot her name, but, uh,that representation matters.
You know it, it, it, it, it inall parts of life, and that's as
political as I'll get, but youknow what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
But representation is so important.
So Phillip did a awesome job.
I texted him right after.
He was very appreciative.
I told him very entertainingseason.
Congrats on the 75 K.
Well, not really, probably 30,40 K after Congrats on the 75K.
Well, not really Probably 40Kafter taxes, depending on your
tax credit.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Well, yeah, you never know, with the extra they got
for being on the show and allthat that's true, that's true,
Good makeup.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
But still, I mean again, you give me 40K.
I'm very happy man.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Right, of course, getting a new car.
Not to mention, like you said, some maybe another opportunity
from it as well.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Exactly.
So we had the final next week,so we ended up.
So Phillip was the person thatDavid eliminated he.
So David had power where heeliminated somebody right away,
which was Phillip, and I kind offelt that was happening.
I mean I, even though they kindof edited it sort of to make it
seem like it wasn't- I feltthat that's what's going to
happen.
My guess is ck is going to playthe deep banker.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Um, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm
actually rooting for ck to winand wait, you mean, you mean to
tell me, in an episode in whichthey promise a double
elimination, we didn't even see,no, gonna play the banker.
Oh right, okay nbc so our, ourseason, our season and yearly

(13:09):
long gripe continues dude.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
What the heck?
Stop this nonsense.
What are they doing?
Come?

Speaker 2 (13:15):
on how many you could be.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
You can make a highlight reel of like a hundred
times almost, of how many timeswe've had to complain about
something like this, and theydid it.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
It's worse because we didn't even get to see them
play.
We didn't even know who wasplaying you know what they
should do like?

Speaker 1 (13:31):
do clip after clip and in between the clips go damn
it, clip, damn it, clip, damnit honestly, you could get a
bunch of them but you know what?
it's okay.
At least you know on the plusside, you're least you know on
the plus side.
You know you're, mr, positiveon the plus side.
We have an elimination right atthe beginning of the next
episode.
Almost we have the banker gameand, yeah, my prediction is I

(13:54):
I'd like to see ck win againstthe banker and eliminate poverty
.
Um, do you think he's to pickpoverty to play the banker?

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Oh man I, if she could convince him that CK is
going to eliminate her but Ithink he's right, I think he
wants her to go.
I do too, and that's where Ithink it truly just depends on
the.
I lean that way.
I think he wants her to gobecause he she's the biggest
competition, and then if CKloses and CK is out and he can

(14:24):
live with that.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
so um, is you?
One thing, too, that crossed mymind I was watching it philip
never got to play the banker Iknow have you still got 75 000
this is probably a dumb question, but have you ever seen dumb
and dumber?

Speaker 2 (14:39):
oh yeah, classic jeff daniels, I was jim carrey I was
literally just thinking in myhead as soon as I said that.
I was thinking that was achance we're willing to take.
What have you shot me?
What have you shot me in theface?
David was easily.
David was easily willing torisk ck going on if she lost so

(15:00):
that just gave me a flat.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
I haven't seen that movie in years.
It's so good.
Oh my god, deal or no deal.
Island yeah, watch the finalenext week on NBC.
And no, we do not get any extrafor saying that wait, wait,
wait.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Is there going to be a cliffhanger?

Speaker 1 (15:17):
I hope not if it's the finale honestly, I wouldn't
put it past you come back forseason 3.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Oh, my god, you imagine I would.
I'm, you know I it's not, notgonna happen, but I just can't
put it past them.
I'll say point oh, oh, oh, ohwhat just because they're so bad
.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Oh man, I you know what, you're probably right.
Miracle 80-foot shot at thebuzzer.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Every once in eight years it goes in.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
We should have a side podcast of this podcast called
Side Bets, and we'll just kindof make side bets on all these
things that are happening.
I'll give you even odds.
I love it.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Oh my God, that even odds.
I love it, oh my God.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
That's funny.
All right, Coming up on Aroundthe Bases, the bet cast Again.
No, I'm kidding.
Okay how about this?
How about for a side?

Speaker 2 (16:15):
bet I would say for second base.
A side bet is I would bet.
I don't think I've ever seen acrazier tribal council in my
life.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
I wouldn't take that bet because you're absolutely
right.
That was insane.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Holy crap.
We hardly even need to talkabout the rest of the episode
because tribal was so crazy.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Dude, I'm literally watching tribal like this.
I can't tell you how many timesI audibly shouted during tribal
of that episode well, you know, you should have.
You probably got a clue and Ididn't realize I was giving you
a clue because I, you know, charlie and I text each other
during the show.
I tend to watch the episodes inreal time and charlie smartly

(17:00):
likes to kind of save.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
We start like 20 to 25 minutes late, so we can skip
the commercials.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
Which is brilliant.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Usually we're caught up right at the end, but there
were a couple parts of Tribalthat were so crazy I rewound a
couple times so we ended upfinishing like five minutes
behind real time.
We were pretty much real time.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
I text Charlie and I didn't realize.
I'm like, okay, I'm at Tribalnow voting, and I looked at the
time.
I'm like, oh shit, this is likekind of a spoiler, Cause he's
going to see that they'realready voting, and it was.
I looked at my.
I'm like wait, how are theyvoting already?
It's only four people and we'renot at the end of the show.
And then I'm like, oh, it's atie, oh, oh he doesn't have his

(17:53):
vote.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
Oh, and it was like so.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Much so rewinding a little bit there was a um a
journey, yes, which was a one ofthe more unfair.
I loved the journey.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
I I kind of like chance yes, believe me, I love
that part of it.
Yahtzee simply saying for howthey decided who went that was
unfair justin didn't choose togo, justin didn't he got?
Screwed he got screwed withthat.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
That was wild if he did not get chosen for that
journey one million percent hewould not have been eliminated
oh yeah, no way absolutely not.
Um, so justin gets chosen on thejourney.
So the journey is this folks, they're of course they're taking
, like they always are on aspeedboat to an island, and they
are each going down threeseparate paths, and the game is

(18:34):
this there are eight dice, yahtzee style dice on the.
On the dice there's like alittle triangle, which is
basically a blank space.
There's a skull and thenthere's a sun.
It was a sun flame, a fire, aflame fire.
Right, yeah, if they got thewhatever the first four, they
get either the four skulls orthe four fires.

(18:55):
If they got four skulls, theylost their vote.
If they got four fires, theygot an extra vote, and two out
of the three people that wentdown the path got the skulls,
and only one of the people gotthe extra vote and unfortunately
for our pizza guy, justin, hewas one of the people that lost

(19:16):
his vote.
And so now is always a problemwhen you're on a journey and you
have to come back to the tribeand try to unveil what just
happened I don't think it was tohis benefit, based on his
position in the tribe withcedric and with you know, just

(19:37):
the fact that you know, um, sigh, it was, I forgot her name Cy.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
Yeah, she wanted to eliminate Mary.
So I I think, based on hisposition, he should have just
been totally honest with him andsay, hey, I lost my vote.
I don't think it would havebeen bad.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Not only that, but I think his story post when he
returned.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
So stupid Like a zero or a one on a one to ten and
believability you're verygenerous.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
It was a freaking zero.
It was negative like so bad.
How did the people believe him?

Speaker 1 (20:12):
I don't think they did.
That's the thing I think atfirst they did.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
But I think clearly, they did, because look how the
voting happened but I thinkthat's that's what I want to say
.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
As the tie happened, I think, finally, cedric's
wheels started to turn and go oh, this was bullshit.
It was bullshit.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
Right, but why?
How?
That's what I'm saying, yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
I know.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
How did you believe the story when it was told?
And not only that, it's becausehe built trust.
The first tie of tribal.
How did neither of Cedric or Cynot realize that there were
only two votes?
They?
How did neither of Cedric or Cynot realize that there were
only two votes.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
They literally didn't understand until the second set
of voting, although they didshow Cedric Cedric's like he had
.
That look a little bit, youknow.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
As soon as they tied the first time.
What did he think?
Someone couldn't vote the firsttime, but then could the second
, Like what were we doing there?

Speaker 1 (21:04):
So exactly, and so they sigh and and cedric split
the vote one justin and one sigh.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
cedric voted for size I voted for.
Justin jumped a little aheadbecause mary played her shot in
the dark and won it right sothat's why mary is not even part
of the equation.
He was exempt couldn't vote andcould not be voted for.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
So what happened was they?
They voted, they split the voteand then they went to revote
and then they split the voteagain.
So Jeff, you know, says to themlisten at this point, normally
what would happen is you guyswould discuss and you would, you
know, decide who you want tosend home.
But since this situationhappened with mary, with the

(21:47):
shot in the dark, and justinlost his vote, um and sy the
only people that could vote weresy and cedric, and since cedric
wasn't part of the voteinitially, his name was written
down.
He had all the power to decidewho went home.
I will tell you straight upyou'd be as pissed as you want,
but he should have sent sai home.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
That was a mistake one thousand percent what was he
doing?

Speaker 1 (22:13):
he turns to them and he says he goes.
Will you guys be I'm gonna.
I'm paraphrasing because it'sfunnier to paraphrase will you
guys just behave yourself?
If you guys behave yourself, then you know we can move on,
but we gotta get over this, getalong what the fuck okay, so
hold on now.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Now take a step back from a logic standpoint.
He basically just asked twopeople on a tribe who hate each
other to get along, which means,if they're to get along,
they're're going to get his assout, exactly, exactly.

Speaker 1 (22:46):
What the fuck?
What is he doing?
What the freak Like I'mwatching.
I'm like dude you just had twoladies.
You just gave them all thepower.
What are you doing?

Speaker 2 (22:57):
No, he's lucky.
If it was his boy he would havebeen there for him.
He's lucky.
They already showed it's atribe swap because they were
already down to three people.
But can you imagine if theyplayed another week and they?
Asked what had been gone three, they lose, and then the two, he
would be a bottom 10 survivorplay of all time I still think
his play was awful, like it'sstill awful, oh yeah, absolutely

(23:19):
awful, because now he has zeroallies at the merge, when he
would have had his number one, justin, still there so dumb,
like what you'd sometimes.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
You know what I would have.
I would have voted for a sideto go.
I would have had a conversationwith justin saying what the
hell just happened after tribal.
But you don't vote him out likeand you don't.
You look so weak when you sitthere and you say, can you guys
just get along?
What the heck you're playingsurvivor.
They're not gonna get along.

(23:48):
And even if they get along, ifthey let you your point, if they
get along, they're gonna getyour ass out of there.
What are you doing?

Speaker 2 (23:56):
yeah, what are?

Speaker 1 (23:57):
you doing?
Oh man, I, I, I like you.
I had to rewind it for a moment.
I go did that just happen?
What just happened?
What just like?
What just did he just tell them?
I felt like I was back inschool when I was teaching
fourth grade.
You guys can get along, please, like what.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Another interesting part to be brought up is because
there were so many firsts ofthis.
The first time they tied, heexplained aloud that.
Now, to remind you, I have tosay share this information,
because normally when you havetwo people who tied, the two
people don't vote because theirvotes cancel each other out.
So he, for the first time ever, justin not having a vote, which

(24:38):
is crazy yeah, that was justthe whole tribal was just
absolutely insane.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
You know, but honestly, at the end of the day,
Justin, I mean, it wasn't hischoice to go to the journey, but
once he came back he made thechoice.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
He played it bad.
He should have told Cedricprivately His concern was Cedric
wouldn't.
Maybe Cedric would vote theother way, but he had it was he
had it if.
If he's, if he tells hey, cedric, listen, in the worst
case scenario, if, mary, thishappens, if you, you control the

(25:15):
vote, you just send her homeand then I'll be your number one
.
He should have pitched muchharder when they were talking
about it.
He didn't even seem to care.
He just said oh, I'll see youat my pizza place next month,
like you just got on survivor.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
If I'm gonna get on survivor, I'm fighting for my
life every day.
Dude, you're only there for 30days if you're lucky.
Like, what are you doing?
Like this isn't like you're notbig honeymooning on fiji,
you're playing a game.
And I will say this you know,if I had a dunce cap to give to
one of them, I would still giveit to cedric, because I think
his move was so much stupiderthan what justin did, because

(25:52):
justin was more out of a forceof of necessity but justin also
gets a dummy award.
I mean, really agree, I meanhe's vice president dummy and
cedric's president dummy saywhen.
I'm telling you straight up, Ihave prediction.
When they, when they have thetribe swap, say, is going to rub
some people the wrong way, she's not going to last long.

(26:13):
On another, there's no way.
Her, she, no.
I think her social game sucksyeah it's so bad.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
We'll see if she's smart.
If she's smart enough to maybefind the other bottom from each
of the other tribes and thenmaking like a bottom alliance,
that might be your only way out.
So we'll see it should beinteresting now you're.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
You're the.
You're the survivor guy.
You know I was on my what thirdor fourth season back.
Is it normal to do this earlyon, when they do it?
Not really, that was uh, uh.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
Well, they're down to three players.
They've been so bad, it's just.
It's happened a couple timeswhere I think they'd prefer each
tribe to, you know, lose oneequally, and then they can do it
longer.
But when you're down to three, let me this most even before
they were down to three, one onetribe had to sit out, two
people, the other tribe had tosit out one and they try to
avoid that, because then youhave situations where another

(27:11):
time jeff has to make anannouncement.
Now, remember, you can't sit outback to back, and they sat out
two last time, so there wereonly a couple people to pick
from you remember what we talkedabout last week?

Speaker 1 (27:21):
we said why get rid of the strong guy?

Speaker 2 (27:23):
and you see exactly what happens they lose the
another challenge like and nowthen, and it cost justin and
cedric essentially both, andcedric.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
quite frankly, cedric was the reason why they lost
the challenge last week.
So, yeah, interesting, ohInteresting, ooh, all right,
it's going to be a good seasonof Survivor.
The funny thing is this thisthis is the.
This tribe has been such a hotmess that we haven't really
learned about the other tribestoo much yet.
Like we haven't really gonedeep.
It's so crazy.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I also um the one I know I sent you this, but the
Nate Bargatze sketch of GeorgeWashington where they do the
thing Mike Bloom, your favoriteMike is one of my favorites.
And then Mike Bloom had anamazing tweet with Survivor
about it.
I'm sure you saw it.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Explain it.
You showed it to me.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
It's him standing in front of me.
He says we'll have a newadvantage called Shot in the
dark that gives you a one out ofsix chance of being safe and it
will be a die.
And you roll it.
No, you put it in an urn.
So you don't roll any dice atall.
You do when you play yahtzee ona journey which they did today
with justin, which was crazy Ilove.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
By the way, I love mike bloom is one of the better
commentators.
Survivor, he's so good.
But yeah, he's exactly, and ofcourse he's that.
Nate Borghese sketch yes,perfect.
And that was just a season too, which is funny, you know, it
was earlier in the season ofSaturday Night Live.
So yeah.
So we'll have to check outSurvivor.

(28:55):
You know it is slim pickingsthis time of year because we are
in March.
So you know we lost two bigshows that we were watching
Traders and Beast Games.
I don't know about you, but nowon Thursday, like what am I
doing?
But baseball's coming back.
So that's fun, baseball'scoming back.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
March Madness is literally going on in the
background.
I know you don't care, but Ican still hear the squeaking
feet of the big SEC game and theCBS Sports Network Mountain
West game are still going on.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
Nothing about the sound of basketball with the.
I can't even do the sound.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
You know who, surprisingly, really enjoys that
.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
Who.

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Rocket.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Rocket the.
Do your doggy rocket's the best.
I love rocket.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Give rocket a hug for me um so the floor speaking of
squeaking on the floor yes, exactly, whoa.

Speaker 1 (29:55):
Nice job, buddy, nice .
Um, we are.
You know it's.
It's charlie.
Charlie still needs to watchseason two, but we are up to
date on season three of thefloor.
Have you watched season two?

Speaker 2 (30:07):
no, not yet we're probably gonna watch it after
season three is over it's.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
I'm gonna give you a and no spoilers, but I actually
think season two is better thanseason three, so far from what
I've seen.

Speaker 2 (30:17):
So there you go better as in skillful players or
better as in entertainment wise, because we had some really
really bad, bad players thisweek which were pretty
entertaining with how bad theywere.
Because you're just yelling atthe tv like what are you doing?

Speaker 1 (30:33):
listen, I have, I'm, I'm, I.
I don't know if you know thisabout me we haven't really
talked about this too much but Iam a huge Kevin Smith fan.
I love Kevin Smith movies.
I love Brian O'Hanlon.
I knew him before the season.
Of course, most of us moviebuffs know who he is.
Can they please stop handinghim $20,000 every week?

Speaker 2 (30:54):
I mean come on At least one more week.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Thanks, why did they do that?
Why did they spoil it?
Like you know, he wins $120,000.
Oh my God so.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Brian.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
O'Halloran.
At least he earned it in thelast challenge.
I mean, he didn't really earnit, but at least he had to go up
against.

Speaker 2 (31:14):
He had to play.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Yeah, okay, I mean mean no, that was in the last
episode.
I think he had to play for itbut this episode, yeah.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Well, the cliffhanger was would he go back to play or
not?

Speaker 1 (31:29):
right, exactly yeah yeah, so, um, he's up to a
hundred thousand dollars and andthat's the largest amount of
money anybody has won withoutwinning the whole 250.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Might be the most he's ever made for a project
ever.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Why they don't get paid that much the actors.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
I mean, has he other?
I mean, Clerks was so long ago, yeah, no way, he probably got
that.

Speaker 1 (31:57):
Well, he was in Clerks too.
Remember he worked at Moby's.
No, no way, he probably gotthat so.
Well, he was in clerks too, remember he was.
He worked at mobis.
No, no, I remember that.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Do you think that you think he okay, so maybe second
most clerks too was prettyrecent I mean, he hasn't had any
like massive parts.
You know what I mean no, butimportant enough.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Dante, right, he played dante.
Uh, important enough.
Uh, he was in.
He was in dharma too, like that.
That dogma, dogma, I love dogma, he was in dogma, I remember we
didn't make 100k for that no,no, that's that movie.
Harley made a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
I enjoyed the movie and remember it's at least 120
that we know of my favorite, bythe way, without a doubt is is
clerks 2.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Clerks 2 is like I never like.
I died laughing in the movietheater for that movie.
It's so fun.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
um, speaking of actors and this episode of the
floor, yeah, what percentage ofthe world, would you estimate,
knows who tom hanks is, who TomHanks is here?

Speaker 1 (33:00):
we go, I would say probably.
If we're talking the world, Iwould say maybe 90% of people,
let's say United States 99.9% ofpeople know who Tom Hanks is.
Well, we found.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Forrest Gump.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
I mean big Forrest Gump saving private run.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
I mean I, I do, I have to we could, we'd be here
all night naming his his exactly.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
I mean he in the 80s and 90s he was the most
prominent actor that you wouldsee.
And even in the 2000s, tomhanks was like.
You see him.
I mean not even to talk aboutall the movies he did with meg
ryan.
I mean all the joe vose versusthe volcano great movie, um, but
there's so many movies I lovethat movie so good um what was

(33:49):
that movie about?

Speaker 2 (33:49):
the?

Speaker 1 (33:50):
musicians terminal.
What?
About the talking about thatthing you do that thing you do
yeah great movie, um, and that'snot even those, aren't even his
saving private ryan boris gump, boris gump, life is like a box
of chocolates you never knowwhat you're going to get.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
I mean how about toy story?

Speaker 1 (34:11):
toy story 2, toy story 3, toy story 4 or how
about a little movie from 1988called big?
How about?
How about splash, which isreally one of, I think, his
first movie philadelphiaphiladelphia great movie with
denzel washington, how?
And he won the oscar.
How about bosom buddies, the tvshow in the 80s with peter

(34:33):
scolari?
That I old guy remember well I.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
It was before you.
We found that 0.1% of peoplethat doesn't know who Tom Hanks
is, because not only did theynot know who Tom Hanks was, but
they stood there and wasted likeseven seconds before.
Okay, pass, brutal.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
Dude, when that happened I literally paused the
DVR.
I paused it on Tom Hanks, youknow, right after she said, I
think she said pass, I paused itand I turned to Erica and I
said as loud as I could, who thedoesn't know who Tom Hanks is,

(35:14):
and I texted you.
I'm like what the heck Like?

Speaker 2 (35:18):
are you kidding me?
This was a nice change of pacebecause I actually have watched
the floor texted you.
I'm like what the heck?
Are you kidding me?
This was a nice change of pacebecause I actually have watched
the floor before you.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
You did.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
And I had mentioned that there were like anywhere
from four to seven moments whereyou were going to scream at the
TV and you were right and Imight have undersold it.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
There might have been more.
It's the equivalent of showinga kid a picture of santa claus
and a kid not saying who santaclaus is.
I mean, are you kidding me?
it was so bad I mean, what theheck?
I some of those categories andI'm gonna say this can we please
stop with the pictures ofinanimate kitchen objects.

(35:57):
Come on, I mean, how manycategories of cookware do I need
to see?
Or things in the kitchen?
I mean there is a categorycoming up that you both, both of
us are gonna love.
Did you see it when they wereshowing the categories
competition shows oh, I did seethat dude, dude.

Speaker 2 (36:17):
That's like, that's not game shows, that's like
reality competition kind of inthat, in that same realm, we got
to see in this episode, uh,real housewives which,
admittedly, I have not seen much, but I did decent.
I knew like 10, 12 of them, just randomly, not bad not bad.
Did you know?

(36:38):
You knew more you probably knew.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
No, I knew.
This is that you said to me.
You texted there's a trader'sconnection and that's the only
the only people like.
I was like, oh, dorinda, that's, like, uh, that's I mean, I
only knew like two or three.
That was not phaedra.
I love you know, I love phaedra.
There was only like two orthree of them that I you
probably knew kyle richards.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
I knew kyle richards and I knew Kyle Richards.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
I knew Kyle Richards and I knew Lisa Renna, because
Erica and I are fans of Days ofOur Lives, and she was on Days
of Our Lives, denise Richards.
Of course Anybody, any movieboss.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
And you probably knew Vanderpump.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
I had issues with that one.
I know Vanderpump rules, butgetting that name out was a
little.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
But you knew, you know of her.
I getting that name out was alittle but you knew, you know of
her.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
I mean, it wasn't, it definitely didn't do with these
guys.
I mean, these guys were backand forth.
That was an impressive battle.
That was, and he's an impressedthe guy who won.
Well, they were both impressive, but the guy that won was
impressive player.
I mean he had a good strategyand I like how he going for get

(37:42):
the time boost and then playhousewives go I I.
It was good.
It was good see there were.
There were pluses, definitely.
I want to ask you a questionreal quick on the competition
shows what's your over under?

Speaker 2 (37:45):
that we are family is one of the pictures negative
negative 55 less than thebelievability of justin's story.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
Returning home from the interesting is if they show
a picture of the floor no, thatwould be, that wouldn't I would.

Speaker 2 (38:03):
That wouldn't shock me.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Better chance of that we didn't see, we didn't.
There was a category calledstar, the stars of stars, which
was the hall hollywood walk offame stars.
They did it.
Even though rob lowe has a staron the hollywood walk of fame,
they didn't show him on that.
And you know, it's interesting,I always, I always get caught
up with that because I don'tknow if our audience knows, or
you, you probably know, causeyou're a celebrity buff you

(38:28):
actually pay to have your staron the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
It's not just something thatthey bestow upon you, you your
your publicist or you pays like$20,000 to have your star on the
walk of fame.
I don't think a lot of peopleunderstand that, even though it
is an honor, it's something thatis initiated by the celebrity
to do or the celebrities peopleon their behalf.

(38:49):
So there's, yeah, that's I wow.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
That's.
I did not know that.
Actually that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
They have to pay and he goes hollywood chamber of
commerce and uh, yeah, I haveyou done that.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
They walk to hollywood boulevard yeah, but
it's been a minute.
They have one in some in palmsprings as well they do.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
They do with the misters going and I remember
doing that, but the one athollywood boulevard, the
sidewalk's pretty filthy and youhave to get past all the
spider-men and it's hollywood.
Spiderman, it's Hollywood, andHighland, hollywood and Highland
is this giant like shoppingmall and that's like we stayed
at the Roosevelt hotel right onHollywood Boulevard.
I won a trip, so we stay there.

(39:28):
Surprised.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
That's cool, but yeah , I didn't know that yeah that
was what we wanted.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
What are?

Speaker 2 (39:35):
you, what are you paying to have yours on there?
And then it'll say like eighttimes what about you?

Speaker 1 (39:44):
Well, I'm not there yet by the time you do it.
When I get into a movie orsomething, then we'll talk
Perfect.
Speaking of movies, there's agreat movie coming out called
the luckiest man alive.
They just released a trailertoday.
It drops on April 4th intheaters and it's a story of

(40:05):
Michael Larson, the ice creamtruck driver who went on to
pressure luck in 1984 and wonover a hundred thousand dollars
in 1984.
It's, it's incredible,incredible story.
So I'm looking forward to thatmovie coming out.
That released a theaters yes, onuh april 4th, so I it should be
good.
I mean, it's been around for awhile and they're finally I

(40:27):
guess they got distribution.
I'm hoping it's a little wideso I can see it.
Um, it's one of those where youmight have to like go to one of
those art house movies by youto see it.
Um, but I have to check it out.
Definitely it's called theluckiest man alive.
Um, speaking of the luckiest, unluckiest, unluckiest man alive
, um, what are we going to talkabout?

(40:50):
The squirrel, jeff mcdeal?
Um, dude, see, that transitionwasn't bad.
Um, not bad not bad for the metone of us, the mess infielders
second baseman for the mets, jeff mcneil oh, they call him
squirrel um, he is injured.
He is on the injured list, ofcourse.

(41:11):
He's on the injured list, ofcourse, because we can't have
nice things um, and he was just,he was hitting pretty decently.
I was very impressed with thatum.
But yes, so it looks likeronald acuna jr, not lewis angel
acuna um will be um startingout the season in the bigs.

(41:32):
I think I mean one of them forsure, right?

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yeah, I mean I would Acuna or Mauricio or both.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
I think Acuna before Mauricio, but who knows?
I think Beatty for sure wasgoing to be Everything I heard
about from David Stearns.
It looks like they wereplanning on bringing Beatty up
anyway.
He keeps saying stuff like andI agree with him that prospects
need to have time in the bigsand practice in the bigs.
I absolutely agree with thatphilosophy.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Um, so yeah, I think I think they need to get reps,
plain and simple.
You can't have a big prospectjust sitting on the bench If
they're not going.
If they're going to do that, just play them every day in AAA
until a need arises.

Speaker 1 (42:15):
But the benefit, you know, of course, in in in major
leagues is you're, you're upagainst major league pitching
and not.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
AAA pitching.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
So you know, I'm hoping that that's what they, I
think that's what they're goingto do.
It depends on, also, what kindof rotation they want to go with
.
Are they going to go with afive-man rotation, or you know
what's going to happen.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Right Early in the season, an extra day off or two,
maybe they keep an extra guy up.
Well, I have my question foryou, obviously because I want to
go slightly cub related.
Is our former friend going tomake the squad with the Mets,
alexander canario?

(42:53):
Was he going?

Speaker 1 (42:54):
to be there listen I hope so in the lineup a lot.
They've been playing him a lot.
They've been playing him a lot.
I think is a strong possibility.
Canario starts in the majors.
Um, how did he do with the cups?

Speaker 2 (43:07):
because I'm not that familiar with him he didn't get
a big cup of tea, but I mean hehad had a couple of big hits in
September when he was up, but hewas mostly a bench player.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Yeah, and then obviously they just didn't
really have any space for himbetween Kyle Tucker, pete Crowe,
ian Happ and Saya.
I mean it's tough with thosefour Tough problem to have.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
Exactly.
I think that I think I thinkhe's going to have.
I think I think excuse me, Ithink the Mets are a better team
for options for that and Ithink he might have some.
I mean I've, like you you saidI've been going I think he's
been in like I've only seen only, but I've seen six spring six

(43:50):
or seven spring training gamesand I think he's been in the
lineup for at least half of themwhich tells me they're trying
to work on.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
You've been Mets games except for one okay and I
was gonna say for a certain atleast two to three times I've
seen him in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
Yeah, and let's not forget one of the first games he
went to Canario is still withthe Cubs, so he wasn't even
eligible to be in the Metslineup.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
So right, probably more like two-thirds of the
games he's seen.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
So I I think it's a strong possibility based on what
I've kind of seen.
Of course I don't knowfirsthand.
I am a Monday on.

Speaker 2 (44:23):
St Patrick's day, mario would be four and five,
right In the off.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:27):
Oh they are.
They're trying to move Marte,so right.

Speaker 2 (44:32):
I don't know if that happens.
I still think there will besome moves that happen.
I think so too.

Speaker 1 (44:37):
I don't think Marte is going to be a Met in the
beginning of the season.
I think they want to move himand I think that's smart,
because I think Marte has alittle bit of good left in him
and now would be the time tomove him.
If they're going to move him, Ithink now is a good time to
move him.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Otherwise I could see them running a nice platoon.
He still could hit leftiesabsolutely.

Speaker 1 (44:56):
Um, it's just a matter, like you said, of of how
much time they're going to getplaying in and on the field and
playing at the plate um, I'mgoing to be there on um st
patrick's day, I purchased whereerica and I are going to go the
batting practice.
We're going to be on the fieldat clover park and oh that's
awesome.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Who knows, we don't have my little microphone.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
Can I enter you for our podcast?

Speaker 2 (45:19):
that's amazing.
Get a couple.
Get a couple sound bites, petepete, pete, I'm gonna.

Speaker 1 (45:26):
I should do like, do this for us.

Speaker 2 (45:28):
This fake press pass with our yeah, yeah, put a
little press, put a little pressbadge, around.
Why not have some?
Oh?

Speaker 1 (45:34):
man.
Yeah, I'm excited.
Listen, that's the first timeI'm ever you said on saturday
done, uh, no, on monday mondayokay, we're going, we're going
up on sunday, we're gonna stayovernight because that drive is
like I'm not a big, I don't.
You, you probably drive a lotmore than I do up in chicago,
but I'm not a big.
Well, you, you know, I know youdrive more than I do, but I'm
not a big person to.

(45:55):
I don't like driving, especially at night yeah, this
is one.
That's what three, four hoursaway no, you're gonna laugh at
me, no it's an hour it's an hourand a half, I mean but who
cares?

Speaker 2 (46:06):
I know you were gonna say that, but no, no, no no I'm
saying I'm saying, who caresthat you're doing that, that's
fine, yeah no, but it's just toomuch.

Speaker 1 (46:14):
Like I just it.
What ends up happening isbecause I know what I have an
hour and a half drive ahead ofme.
We end up never staying theentire game, which sucks.
I like to.
I like to enjoy the game, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (46:24):
You don't want to be rushed right.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
So I'm excited for that.
I mean we'll be rushed on we'llbe rushed on monday to come
home, but um, we're gonna, we'regonna go to the game on Sunday
too.
We'll kind of make it.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
Do you have big St Paddy's Day plans on Monday at?

Speaker 1 (46:39):
home.
I'm Irish, I'm half Irish, andso my mom wants a brisket.
She doesn't want corned beef,so we're going to get that for
her.

Speaker 2 (46:51):
Love that.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
Awesome.
Yeah, I'm excited.
I love St Patrick's Day.

Speaker 2 (46:58):
And that day will be the eve of Major League Baseball
kickoff, because the Cubs willbe playing in Tokyo.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
We need to talk about this 12 hours after that.
We need to talk about this.
I have questions for you nowand I'm going to ask you
questions First of all.
Real'm going to ask youquestions First of all, real
quick.
Before I ask the questions, Iwant to preface this.
They showed pictures of theTokyo Dome.
They have the staircases thatare in clubs and Dodgers.

(47:26):
What a wonderful job they didon that Unbelievable.
They had the Wrigley sign andI'm not even listen, you're the
diehard.
I like the Cubsubs and I kindof got goosebumps.

Speaker 2 (47:37):
I'm like this is freaking awesome and they had
shoda and craig council.
Do the honorary uh the breakingI saw the ceremony that was so
cool.
And then did you see, seyasuzuki was slicing with a
samurai sword.

Speaker 1 (47:50):
He was I saw that crazy.
I saw oh man, dude, this is.
This is really cool and I thinklisten the Dodgers and the Cubs
have a decent, some decentJapanese players and I think
it's great for them.
It's exposure in Japan, notthat baseball really in baseball
it's pretty big in Japan.
It doesn't really need thatexposure.
But why not, um, and you know, show people like Trevor Bauer

(48:14):
what baseball is all about, andI say that.
But so with that, I havequestions for you.
First question because Ipurposely don't follow it is
because I want to ask you on theshow who went?
Oh, I know Justin Turner, because he's been busy on social
media who went over torepresent the Cubs?

(48:36):
Like not the whole team,obviously.
So who stayed?

Speaker 2 (48:38):
back who went.
So the roster rules areactually rather interesting
because they don't want to makeit a penalty to the Cubs and
Dodgers for having to cut peopletoo early.
So basically the Cubs went overwith a 31-man roster, okay.

Speaker 1 (48:54):
But it's usually 30, right.

Speaker 2 (48:55):
It's usually 26.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
Oh, 26.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
Okay 26 is your opening day lineup roster, and
they went over with 31.
Now three of the 31, each gamewill be inactive.
They will be there as more oflike an emergency if someone
gets injured or something likethat.
One of them is like the thirdcatcher and then they also have

(49:19):
two pitchers that they candesignate inactive for that game
.
So like, let's say, shodastarts the first game, he
doesn't count against the rosterspot on day two.
That's how they get around it,essentially they, so they have a
little extra pitching and theyalso are playing a couple
exhibition games prior to, sothey needed to carry some extra.

(49:40):
Oh yeah, they're playing likethe, the, the japan, two teams
in the npb I love that.
I love that tigers and then uh,I forget who the other ones
again are those going to bebroadcast?

Speaker 1 (49:53):
I believe so.
Oh, I want to watch that.
That's cool.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
I mean obviously the Cubs and Dodgers games, for sure
will be, but I think they areat least on the Cubs network.
I'm looking here and it saysTokyo Exhibition Gate Watch on
marquee.
So I'm pretty sure that it is.
They've got the.
You know what they're playingtomorrow night at 11 o'clock pm,
your time, oh, 10 o'clock atnight.

(50:21):
It's on marquee marquee oh Idon't get that but they have a
free app.

Speaker 1 (50:27):
I think you can check it out I, I, I, really I, I
love, I love that exchange.
I love the fact that they'redoing an exhibition.
It's good practice for them too.
So the rest of the team is backin Arizona still working out
and still kind of doing theirthing, or is everyone?

Speaker 2 (50:42):
They're on the back fields, getting reps and having
games.
One guy that actually did notmake the trip over that is an
everyday starter, but it's justcause he's not fully healthy yet
.
It's Nico Horner.
His goal is to be ready fordomestic opening day, which is
the 28th um.
So instead of having him travelyou know time zone, uh, jet lag

(51:08):
, all that they wanted him tokeep getting more reps faster,
so they thought it would bebetter.
So you'll see, he's partlybummed out about it oh right,
I'm sure to be missing out on it, but you'll probably see either
john birdie or videl brujan atsecond base.
Unless he wants to get cute onegame, maybe he slides rookie
match over and plays turner atthird, but I still think that's

(51:32):
I think brujan probably say thatagain you think brujan will go
in?
brujan or birdie at secondprobably has more experience,
doesn't he?
Yeah, uh they're pretty close.
Birdie's been around the leaguealso.
Birdie, former marlin, I knowit's crazy but I'm looking

(51:55):
forward to it.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
By now by the way, real joke by now every Major
League Baseball player is aformer.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Right.

Speaker 1 (52:05):
Dude, I mean as a Cubs fan.
I mean the only downside, ofcourse, is it does take away a
home series from you guys.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
Yeah, two home games.

Speaker 1 (52:15):
Yeah, is it two games a series?

Speaker 2 (52:17):
Yeah, two home games?
Yeah, Is it two games a series?
It's two games that count.
And then they come back andplay more spring training games
before the regular season.
It's weird, but it's cool.

Speaker 1 (52:27):
It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (52:29):
And if your team's playing in it, you know more
power to it.

Speaker 1 (52:33):
No, I'm excited.
Listen, I'm excited for theCubs.
This is not their first tripoutside of the normal sphere,
right?
Didn't they do something else?

Speaker 2 (52:42):
Yeah, you remember.
The Cubs played the Mets inJapan in 2000.

Speaker 1 (52:46):
That's right.
Opening day.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
They did.
Do you know who hit a grandslam in that game?
Let's test your memory.

Speaker 1 (52:53):
Mike Piazza no oh.

Speaker 2 (52:54):
No, I am in that game .
Let's test your memory, mikePiazza.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
No, oh no, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (52:56):
As soon as I say where this player was born,
you're going to know.
Is that a good hint?

Speaker 1 (53:01):
I don't know, dude Is it a bet.

Speaker 2 (53:06):
What the fuck?
Ooh, one of the most, oh, sucha great baseball name, benny
Agbayani.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
Oh yes, yes, yes, yes , yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, wow,
wow.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
I didn't see your baseball.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
Knowledge is so much more than mine.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
I played in that game so it's just burned in my
memory.
Another Cubs-Mets opening day.
That has some.
You were a teenager in 2000.
You remember a guy by the nameof Tuffy Rhodes?
Oh yeah, he hit three home runson opening day against the Mets
.
Wow, and I believe, if mymemory serves me, I believe Doc

(53:45):
Gooden was pitching that game.
Oh, you check me on that ifyou're.

Speaker 1 (53:51):
Well, we're definitely going to share that.
Yes, after I'm going to checkit out, you're going to look it
up now I'm gonna look it up here, let's see, so has it opening
84 there.

Speaker 2 (54:01):
It is so good.
Chicago cubs, toughy roads, made history by hitting three
home runs all off mets pitcherdwight gooden.
But the mess still won the game12-8.

Speaker 1 (54:15):
What year was that?

Speaker 2 (54:17):
1984.
, 1994.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
Dwight was still with the team in 94?
Yeah, he must have been.
Oh wow, or maybe oh Because atsome point he went to the
Yankees, I was eight years old, probably running around every
time he homered 1994, I was 22.
My wait, was I 22?
Yeah, because I was 20 when Igot married in 92.

(54:41):
When we got married 92, oh mygod, you were eight.
Uh, you little baby.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
But in 2000 you were a teenager you were having a
beer watching the game.

Speaker 1 (54:49):
I don't drink alcohol I know I'm just kidding,
because you were 22, I know Idid drink at 21,.
So the year before I wasn'tlegal to drink at my own wedding
.
Go figure, that's funny, that'sso funny.
But listen, I'm excited forthis series.
So I mean it's very odd to havespring training go play two

(55:11):
real games overseas.
Come back to spring training.
That a little odd, but I likethat they did it that way
because I think it would havegiven, it would have been unfair
to both I don't care if thedodgers are unfair or not, quite
frankly but it would have beenunfair to both teams to have to
travel and then go into aregular season kind of schedule.
So I think it makes sense theway it happened.

(55:33):
Um, and I love it for thejapanese fans, which the
japanese market has growntremendously in baseball, so
much in major league baseball.
I mean, of course, jj, thenippon league is already a big
thing in japan, but the factthat so many players want to
play a major in the majorleagues, of course, look, yeah,
over the last couple years youhad shoda, yeah, you've had

(55:54):
shohei, you've had um, you'vehad kodai, um in kodai.
Imagine kodai, looking in onthe series, that's pretty cool.
Um, yeah, so I I'm excited, ofcourse.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
Go cubs, go where this podcast is rooting for the
cubs 100 the next time we record, the cubs will have played two
major league baseball games.
That's pretty crazy.

Speaker 1 (56:17):
And we're going to start the show with them, we're
going to talk all about them, and I'm going to watch them with
you Can't wait to look forwardto it.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
Go Happer, go Cubs.
Are you going to be up at 6 amon first pitch?

Speaker 1 (56:27):
Am I watching on delay?
You will be up at 5, am I knowyou?
You are the biggest Cub fan.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
I know I will say that the that that night before
and then the night after thefirst game will probably be the
earliest I go to bed in decades, just so I can get up and watch
them.

Speaker 1 (56:45):
I don't doubt that at all.
I don't doubt at all.
I, I, you know, listen, I thinkit's a huge deal, I think it's
fun, I think it's exciting, andI think the fact that the Cubs
are going to be two and oh, tostart the season before any of
the other.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
I love it.
Put that out there.
Yeah, not going to lie.
Not going to lie.
If we're sitting here next weekand the Cubs split the games,
I'll consider it a win.
Absolutely.
Sign me up for two wins, twowins.
I love where your head's at100%, let's go council.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
Get the team going, let's go, let's go, cubs, let's
go, let's do it.

Speaker 2 (57:18):
Matt Shaw made the squad traveled with them, so
probably going to be the openingday third baseman, so looking
forward to it.

Speaker 1 (57:25):
Awesome and of course our buddy, ian Happ, is going
to have gold gloves.

Speaker 2 (57:29):
We'll have more of an MLB preview next week.

Speaker 1 (57:31):
Absolutely yes, we are going to go deep into
baseball um a little bit andthen in the following week we
have our buddy, nicholas Pepinfrom pop culture roulette is
going to come on with us andwe're going to do a whole MLB
baseball preview special.
So excited about that.

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Yeah, that'll be next , next, right Next week, I think
so.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
Yeah, I think it's the next week, oh so, yeah,
major league thank you forcorrecting me.
Uh, major league baseballpreview special coming up,
nicholas.
Thank you, nicholas, love it,nicholas.
Of course, diehard angels fan.
Um, we're going to talk allabout baseball.
We are going to be specific onthe cubs, the mets and the
angels, but we are going to talkabout everything.

(58:15):
We're going to go team by teamand talk about Maybe some
predictions.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
awards records.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
And we have a certain fantasy baseball draft coming
up.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
I saw we do, we do.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
Time for me to get some recovery.

Speaker 2 (58:32):
This is your comeback year.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
I did want to tell you, though, because I know you
have this player on your, onyour team, edwin diaz.
Do you have him in this league?

Speaker 2 (58:41):
um, I did have him in a league, but I probably not,
probably not as a keeper.
He'll be available in the draftso edwin diaz is.

Speaker 1 (58:49):
His velocity has kind of been suffering, bro.

Speaker 2 (58:51):
I'm worried about it a little A little bit Is this
your way of softening the market.

Speaker 1 (58:59):
Would I do that to my friend?

Speaker 2 (59:01):
He can fall into the polar barracks for rest lineup.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
Would I do that to my buddy?

Speaker 2 (59:05):
Would I do that Come?
On, I'm just teasing you no, Iknow, but that's good Something
to keep an eye on.
It could be nothing, it justwill slowly ramp it up.
So who won?
It'll be interesting to keep aneye on that.

Speaker 1 (59:25):
So who won the league ?
I didn't.
Who won the league?
Our league.

Speaker 2 (59:29):
Our buddy Dan Parcell Shout out, Dan, he won the
league last year.
So Dan, I'm just saying I'vegot to say, uh, he has in this
league acuna and he won theleague with acuna out all season
.

Speaker 1 (59:43):
So that's pretty impressive that's kudos don't
get cocky, dan.
I'm just saying.

Speaker 2 (59:48):
You know, you saw me as a weakling or something, I
don't know be scared because, remember you, your team will be
making a leap in its own, because you have a very, very
exciting young keeper in JacksonHoliday.

Speaker 1 (01:00:03):
I do.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
That would be a fun guy to have on the squad.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
That was my smartest move last year, without a doubt.
Yeah, I'm excited.
Hopefully I'll make somesmarter decisions as the season
goes, but you know, baseball, the only room to go up
baseball's a tough fantasy sport.
I mean, I think it's thetoughest fantasy sport.
Uh, football.
I never have a problem doingfantasy football and I'm not a
big as big of a football fanright, speaking of which it's

(01:00:31):
just the games, yeah I have tosay joey Bosa to the Bills.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Dude Joey Bosa.

Speaker 1 (01:00:37):
Signed a big, huge contract with Josh Allen Holy

Yeah, big new shiny money.

Speaker 1 (01:00:45):

I think the Bears and the Billsare the be-be-be-be.
You know that connection.

Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
We'll see the Bears and the Bills or the.
You know that connection, putit out in the universe Cubs,
bears and Bears, bears.

Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Bills Super Bowl.
Bears Bills Super Bowl thatwould be crazy.
Wouldn't that be nuts?
We would have to get a legitpress pass and actually go to
press roll and do this podcast.

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):
That would be crazy If that super bowl matchup
happens, we we almost have to doit oh my god, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
Or, if you know, the national league championship
series is the cubs in the mets.
Gotta do it, gotta listen.
I'm just saying, you know wemight have to do a trip to New
York.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
