Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Around the
Bases the pop culture and
sports podcast with your host,charlie.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Seymour.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
And I'm Tim Sternberg
.
Hit it, nick.
Welcome back to another episodeof around the bases, the pop
(00:31):
culture and sports podcast.
Charlie, how you doing, buddy,I'm doing great.
How you doing, I'm great, dude,I'm still glowing.
Over the last, our last episodewith the great nicholas pepin
from pop culture roulette, wehad such a great conversation
about baseball.
It made me laying my spirits upgetting ready for this awesome
season.
I mean, we are literal days awayas we're recording this episode
(00:52):
, the Mets played their lastspring training game against the
Yankees in Port St Lucy.
Today they're on their way toHouston.
Interestingly enough, they aretaking players that might not
make the majors to houston andthey're making the decision in
houston on the roster.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
So a last minute wow,
you never know, honestly,
someone could get hurt the nextcouple days.
You know a lot of things couldchange one real bright spot, and
in real quick.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Hayden sanga is looks
like he's gonna finally make
the team as a backup catcherbecause of Francisco Alvarez
being out sick, and I thinkthat's awesome.
I think that's awesome.
This kid was basically over thewinter working at a grocery
store bagging groceries and hehas been in the majors and the
(01:40):
minors for several years and hehas a great arm.
He could really throw out aplayer at second, so I'm excited
for him to kind of that's acool story.
I always like to hear those kindof stories and just see the
story of you know, I'm notneither one of us are big yankee
fans but a young man beingcalled up uh to the yanes JC I
(02:03):
forget his last name.
He is from Hialeah, which islocal to me here in South
Florida, and I just I love thefact.
I always love it when they'recalling hey, mom, you know what?
Because you think about it,right, you know.
I mean the Little League andall the stuff that it takes to
get up to the Major League leveland all of that, that blood,
sweat and tears and the emotionsof calling your parents and
(02:25):
saying I made it.
I'm sure that's probably one ofthe best feelings in the world.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, definitely,
definitely.
Yeah, that's really cool.
You love hearing those kind ofstories around the league A lot
of teams are making their finalroster decisions.
It's interesting that you saidthat the Mets are bringing some
along to Houston that are stillto be determined.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Akuna is one of them
to be determined.
They're not sure how they'regoing to go with second base.
They're thinking possibly aplatoon of Akuna and Beatty.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
I saw that Beatty
having a nice spring Beatty is
really.
Another homer the other day.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
But you know, that's
the thing with Beatty.
That's my concern.
Yeah, he hit another homer.
My concern is Beatty's alwaysgreat in spring training and in
triple a, but when he gets up tothe majors I don't know what it
is.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Nerves kick in or
something happens and I think
maybe the things finally clickedanother year another year I
hope so.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
I always I want my
players to be successful.
I akuna is the opposite.
Akuna um really excels in themajors but he just doesn't have
the energy in spring training inthe minor.
He doesn't take it seriously,he doesn't like he, I saw.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I saw lynn, was that
lindor who was quoted talking
about that?
Speaker 1 (03:40):
yeah, and also also
the manager um mendoza said that
too.
I mean, wow, that's you knowyou gotta take it always here.
You gotta always know that youknow they're watching you um
what's, uh?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
what's the status on
on my guy, ronnie mauricio?
Is he still injured or?
Speaker 1 (03:57):
yeah, he's still
injured, and and and canario uh,
another one of your guys I knowhe's crushing it, but they're
not.
I don't think there's gonna bea roster spot for him, bro.
I think they're gonna have todo waivers with him, which sucks
because just for our audience.
I know, you know this, but youknow canaria was with the cubs
and he just has not been able tobreak into the majors and you
(04:19):
know he's really crushing it now, but it's, you know I.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
I'm sure some team
will pick him up or something
will happen but yeah, he, heneeds, he needs reps, he needs
to play every day exactly andyou'd love me and you'd love to
carry him as a fifth outfielderwith that kind of power.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
But a lot of these
then we don't have a backup
shorts, we don't have a backupinfielder.
If we do that, you know it'slike you pay peter to you know
you Rob Peter to pay Paul.
So the sort of thing.
So right.
But I like Canario very much,I'm.
I can't believe that.
You know well, he was in thattrade, wasn't he in that trade
with Tucker Kyle Tucker toHouston and then Houston.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
No, no, no, no,
because of tucker yeah, exactly
they needed to open up a40-minute spot.
And then I mean where he, ouroff-field is insanely crowded,
there's no, yeah not with.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Yeah, you have a with
p crow and with hap and I mean
yeah, no, you talker suzuki Imean you have stars, you have,
you have gold glovers, like I, Iwould legit say each one of the
cubs, uh, outfielders are, or Imean when we know he and hat, I
mean that are gold glovers orpotentially say as say, his
defense has slightly declined inthe majors.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
But he was a two-time
gold lover in in japan.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
So and p crow.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
I mean he's awesome,
he really is yeah so We've had
this discussion Live and in theflesh in just a couple days.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
You are.
You are.
Charlie is going with Rosie toArizona to see the Diamondbacks
take on his Cubbies in theiropening series.
Of course not the Cubs openingseries, because they had that
already.
We like to call it domesticopening day, the domestic
opening day, yeah, so I mean, have you been to that stadium
before?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I have.
Actually I have myself, rosiehas not, but I have that.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
So rosie, it'll be
new for rosie it'll be her first
first time there.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Um, I actually, the
time I went to arizona was I was
.
It was way back in the day, Ithink, probably around give or
take eighth grade and carloszambrano was starting for the
cubs, oh wow and it was the gamewhere the first base I've
robbed him of a legit shot at aperfect game.
He took the perfect game intothe eighth inning and it was a
(06:36):
swinging butt up the third baseline.
Aramis, what a game to be at Iknow, aramis made a bear
one-handed.
Bare hand throw nailed him atfirst.
They called him safe and itruined everything what a
freaking game to be at yeah, itwas a great game so where did
the diamondbacks you know?
Speaker 1 (06:55):
for those, including
myself that don't know, do they
play in phoenix?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
is that okay in
phoenix?
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
okay, that's.
That's awesome.
Yeah, that's not at the top ofmy list, but I would love to.
I've never been arizona, so Iwould definitely love to go
there at some point um yeah, speaking of opening day, I will
be in new york the end of thisweek when the yankees host the
brewers at yankee stadium.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I'm not sure I'm
going yet but it's, it's being
talked about, it's debated it'sdebated why.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Uh, erica is coming
up to new york me, so we are
having those conversations.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Even if you only go
for four or five innings, it's
freaking $70 a ticket to go forfive innings.
Okay, then go for seven.
I mean I can hop on a train.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
It's not bad.
It's not like I'm driving outof there.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
You do one of two
things you either go early to
get more time at the park toleave early, or you know you
just say we'll get there, we'lllet traffic clear in.
You show up like bottom onewhen it's a little less empty
and then you take a few extraminutes after the game to walk
around.
Like you can get around that.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
How crazy, though,
that it's literally like my
least favorite American Leagueteam and one of my least
favorite National League teams.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Theoretically
speaking from a Brewers I'm
sorry from a Mets fan standpointand a Cub fans standpoint, you
can go and root for a fellow NLplayoff contending team to pick
up an.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
L.
I would still root for theBrewers over the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
You can't do that to
our teams.
I know the Yankees mean nothingin the American League.
You can root for the Yankees tolose the other 100 and.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Alright, I'll root
for the Yankees.
Oh God.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
I can't believe it's
sacrilege.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
It's sacrilege, but I
know we gotta make up.
The Cubs are on two.
We need we need the Brewers tolose.
Well, the Brewers have a verygood chance.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
They have a good
chance to play the Dodgers.
Wait, wait, wait.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
As long as Reese
Hoskins does well, cause he is
on my fantasy team.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Okay, so Yankees,
yankees win five, four, reese
Hoskins on the homer.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Okay, there you go.
We'll shake on it yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Perfect, do you?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
have any.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yankees on your team.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Uh um no, I don't
think I do no.
I think no, I don't know, Idon't think I do no.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Bellinger for you.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
I don't think I have
Bellinger.
I do have a lot of Cubs, umfunny, not really funny Cause I,
because I mean I love that team, uh, but I have a lot of I have
happer, I have um p crow um, ohman, you've got two-thirds of
the outfield.
Yeah, I know what we were justtalking about it I know how good
(09:35):
your outfield is, dude, I knowI also have, uh, mark vientos,
and I have, you know, I mean Ihave some mets, um, and I have a
good collection.
Oh, you do have a yankee, youdo have some Mets, I have a good
collection.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Oh, you do have a
Yankee.
Oh who do I have, you haveVolpe.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Oh, Volpe, Volpe yeah
.
Erica is telling me she thinksI do have a Yankee, so yeah,
thank you for that yeah.
Volpe.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
You also have a Red
Sox issues.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Who do I have a red
socks bregman?
Oh yeah, I knew I had him.
I, I, I figured it was okay,since he's not on the astros
anymore.
You know, it's funny.
I, I actually I think it waserica was just referring to is I
do have autographed Yankeecurrent Yankee memorabilia.
I have a signed bat by AaronBoone.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
He's a manager,
though, so you get a pass.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Yeah, I can't get it.
I can't.
I don't, do not have any signed.
Aaron judge anything, don'tworry.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Um, hey, that's not a
worry.
That'd be cool if you had it.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Yeah, it would be,
but I I can't afford.
Aaron judge, it's up there withTrotty, it's up, it's up there.
Um, so that is baseball.
We're excited.
Opening day is this week.
Uh, you know, potentially wemight be going to opening days
in the opposite coast and uh,yeah, it's awesome.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
What time is that
potential game?
4 o'clock Eastern oh, middayOkay.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Yeah, which is nice
because, honestly, no one wants
to be taking the subway at 11o'clock from the Bronx.
Yeah, that's nice.
So, yeah, I'm kind of excitedabout that.
They're not doing any giveaways, but, yeah, what do I buy?
I have to buy something.
What do I?
I don't like.
What do I buy?
Like I have to buy something.
What do?
Speaker 2 (11:26):
I, I don't know.
I'll get you a souvenir cup.
Yeah, he's got a free cup.
You'll find something else youcan.
You can find one of those, uh,credit cards and not that I
would condone this.
But you do one of the fakesignups and then, yeah, that's
true, and I'll get a free sodafrom budweiser because I don't
(11:47):
drink alcohol, so they yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
All right, that is
first base.
We, you know, uh, folks, uh, we, we are a baseball-heavy
podcast.
We love baseball, charlie and I, and we'll be talking baseball
every episode now that theseason is going happily.
So, yes, that is our baseballsegment.
Thanks again to Nicholas Pepinlast week from Pop Culture
Roulette for an awesome, greatpreview special and go Angels
(12:17):
and go Cubs andints and that'sthose are the teams that we're
rooting for absolutely um.
So, speaking of second base, let's go and talk about a show
that this week, um is having itsfinale and that is tomorrow.
Tonight, as we have it, thefinale is tonight.
This is being released onTuesday, so Deal or no Deal
(12:40):
Island is the finale is tonight.
I do have a couple of things tosay prior to talking about the
episode.
Joe Manganiello was on theKelly Clarkson show today and
mentioned that the seasontrailer before the season
started had mentioned that thisplayer wins over five million
dollars, so whoever it is willwin a lot of money.
(13:02):
It's not really a spoilerbecause it's out there, um so,
wow, um, the most money in tvhistory.
However, they did not knowabout beast games, so I have a
feeling it's not anymore.
Yeah, um, which is funny, um,or broadcast tv history.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I guess they could
say um, and at the time, at the
time it was filmed, beast gamesjust did it faster I will not
say this to you.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Um, I'll just kind of
allude to it there.
I know who wins because some ofthe freaking trailers have
basically showed it.
So yeah, and I'm not happyabout that.
Nbc, we can't spoil the show.
I want to.
We want to enjoy it.
So yeah, but I do know who wins.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
Well it's, you got a
50, 50 gas, even if you didn't.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I'm rooting for Letty
letty.
I love letty I you know I'vebeen rooting for her the entire
time.
David is the other player.
He has played on australiansurvivor.
Um not sure how he I think hewon this season.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I'm not he did, he
did, yeah, he's considered.
He's considered like thegreatest australian survivor
player ever.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
I think, listen, I
get it, I can.
He is very, very well, heobviously physically, but very,
very good with the social game.
Oh my god, the dude is a master.
You know it's socialmanipulation and the social game
.
So yeah, I mean I would modelmy game off of him if I were
lucky enough to go on a realityshow, which hopefully in the
(14:35):
future, who knows?
Um, but yeah, I would.
So I wanted to preface talkingabout the episode before that.
So you want to kind of go intothe episode and kind of tell us
yeah, so so it started withpicking up from the previous
cliffhanger.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
They hadn't even
played the banker yet.
So poverty plays the banker.
Long story short she makes abad deal when she got a terrible
opening offer because she gotrid of a bunch of the high ones
right away and then by the endof it it was a 50 50 shot and
they literally offered her oneextra dollar, and it was potluck
(15:13):
it was exactly.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
It was a coin toss
yeah, I mean, it was basically
one of the situations wherethere was absolutely nothing she
could have done in thatsituation, except you know, gone
the other way, but you don'tknow.
So in that situation she madethe best.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
She didn't do
anything game-wise, that cost
her the game and that's that'sone of the complaints about that
show that people have well, there's lots of complaints about
the show and we've had lots ofthem.
We've given them, and here'sanother one.
Um, they continue.
I don't know why so many showscontinue to do this, but why do
(15:50):
they all feel the need to haveto bring back all the players
who've been eliminated and thenmake them have some sort of like
I'm okay with it for themvoting, like in survivor in the
jury, like you know that that'spart of the game, but like for
some of these other ones, likeso the goat did it recently also
(16:11):
.
I remember, like I don't askthe villains house of like I
feel like it's kind of like thesame over and over.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
But so here's the
thing, here's what I think.
I have a theory, because, because, deal or no deal, island
, unlike big brother, unlikesurvivor, doesn't have a jury
voting and it's kind of adifferent format.
I think the producers probablyfeel like that's the best way to
bring it full circle.
And the idea is that you'replaying the social game, social
(16:44):
game, social game, and if youmessed, if, for lack of a better
term fucked somebody over, I'msorry, I can't think of another
term, but if you did that, thenit should cost you something as
far as the game goes.
And so this particular gamethat you're alluding to with the
bridge um, it brings thatelement in.
(17:05):
Like, well, if I screwed youover, then you know you're not
gonna help me and I.
I think there's something tothat that's justifiable in doing
it.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
I I understand the
why.
It's more of to to play devil'sadvocate, the same point you're
making.
They did screw that person over, but that was part of the game
and they successfully advancedin said game.
So now that's almost likethey're being penalized later
for something that they eventhough we might not agree with
(17:38):
what they did to the name of thegame it was a successful move,
if that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
That does make sense.
But to that argument I will saythis when you when let's go.
I'll take Survivor as anexample.
Right, in Survivor, there's alot of screwing over going on.
The jury votes at the end.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
You, you know that
does factor into the vote though
and right, I mean it doeseither they know that when
they're doing it and big brothersame thing um yeah so in these
situations that it's not, it'snot kind of the same um you know
rules, so to speak, likethere's no, so they don't know
(18:17):
offhand that this.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
You're saying that
because they don't.
They might not be aware thatthis is going to happen, so they
may not tailor their game thatway.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Right, exactly.
Maybe they'd play it a littledifferently if they knew that
they were going to.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
That's fair.
Yeah, I get what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Yeah, that's fair
yeah, just it's kind of like a
penalty almost it's kind of uhunknowingly, they're getting the
penalty it's kind of shady.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
You know the way that
happens.
Yeah, you know weird, I, I getit.
Yeah, I mean, although we don'tknow technically what, you know
, you and I know that before youdo a game or game show, the
rules are laid out to us.
So what's happened?
So we don't know if thatspecifically was laid out I mean
it probably is.
I'm gonna guess in the rulessomewhere that you know
(19:01):
producers reserve the right tobring back eliminated players.
You know in the perfect.
You know, you know blah, blah, blah totally I get what you're
saying yes, they did um.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
That's a great
example of of them doing that um
and that's also a great exampleof that messing people up the.
That's also a great example ofthat messing people up the
answer, if they like them or not.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
That's messed up, but
you know same thing to your
point.
This semi-final of Deal or noDeal Island.
Literally they, you know oneplayer knew how much monies were
in the cases so that they couldlead them.
You know, australia or not?
Speaker 2 (19:40):
So who gets
eliminated?
Speaker 1 (19:41):
ck I was happy, dude.
I was very happy because Ididn't want her to win at all
see.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
This is where.
This is where it brought backto how we started off, where,
yes, I'm also rooting for lettyto win, but I'm not going to be
upset if dav won, whereas Iwould have been upset had CK won
.
So we're at a point now whereI'm happy with either way, but I
still would prefer Letty to win, since he hasn't won.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
But you know what
Murphy's Law and we went through
this last season it's alwaysthe other person who I'm not
rooting for that wins.
So who knows?
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Those two, phillip
and Parv.
Those were the only four that Iactually was like I would like
to see Quinn.
And then everyone else I waslike eh.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Yeah, I was.
You know what I mean.
I honestly was.
I'm going to be honest withthis this season, you didn't
want Poverty to win.
I know, no, I love Poverty here.
Poverty to win, I know, no, I,I love poverty.
Here's the thing.
I didn't want her to winbecause she's already won and I
like other people to have thatopportunity.
I don't think, I don't, I don't, I don't give her any discount
and she's a fantastic player.
(20:46):
She plays, she played.
She's one of my favoritesurvivor players.
She's from back when I waswatching the show.
I love poverty.
I've always loved poverty.
Um, I loved her with sandra andthat kind of little thing that
they had to and they brought onto the traitors.
You know, they back and forth alittle bit.
They were on all stars together, I believe, a survivor, um, so
(21:06):
I like kind of that she, shedon't, she don't mess around.
You know what I mean?
Like in in the way, she was ablack widow when she won her
season and uh, yeah, she's good, she's good, um, am I saying
anything incorrect?
Because my memory is not great, okay, good, good, I just want
to make sure you're right on it.
But you know, I, I, but forthis season, you know, I was
(21:28):
rooting for our guy philip.
I and you were too, I know, ofcourse, and that's kind of what,
and I don't like the way, necessarily, she played with
phil, if that makes senseTotally.
And it kind of irritated me alittle bit and I almost feel
like an older brother for himand I was like no, don't do that
to Philip.
And even though we were notthat close at all, but I mean,
(21:48):
we actually know the dude, youknow, and so you know we had
vested interests, I was excitedfor the season we are family
after all, we are familyinterest.
I was excited for the season weare um yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
So I I mean, I mean
I'm happy that he won the money
that 75 of course.
Yeah, that almost felt likejustice absolute justice.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
And, uh, listen, if,
if you, if you said, hey, tim,
I'm gonna give you 75 grand, I'dbe very happy and I would leave
the island.
No problem, bro, um, erica, I'mcoming home with 75 g's,
whatever, um, so yeah, so ckgets eliminated.
It's because of time.
She, she doesn't have, she hasa, she was last place.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Right, it's a
significant margin a real,
significant.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Frankly, it wasn't
that close you know, I told you
last week or the week before shereminds she's the amy of the
season for me.
I mean she's like thatcharacter.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
There was like a two
minute spread between david and
letty and it was like anotherfive minutes for a third.
After that's pathetic, come onthat's so pathetic and I liked I
and of course you knew theytried to build up the suspense
oh, you remember first and then,do you remember?
It was like 902, and then herswas like 1354.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
I was like oh god
that was like 60 worse it
reminded me of last season'sfinal uh challenge, when they
were boston, rob was running inand amy was running in and they
did the cliffhanger and wedidn't know kind of where that
was headed.
It just reminded me of yeah, Iactually like that challenge
better than this one.
They played this challenge inlast season, but it was a little
(23:23):
earlier.
I think it was the episodebefore it, right, or the episode
after they did play thischallenge yeah because the last
challenge was that challenge.
But they said, basically they'regoing to determine the winner
here.
You know who has the highestamount, or maybe it was.
They just eliminated that lastchallenge altogether and they
(23:44):
just combined the whole.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Yeah, it takes the
third place out and then be able
to see, but then, as usual, cliffhanger, so so yeah, we're
going to find out to tonight whowins deal or no deal Island.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
We will talk about it
next week.
Next week's episode is going tobe a little later than usual
because we're both traveling, but we will definitely get that
out.
Anything else you want tomention regarding Deal or no
Deal Island?
Speaker 2 (24:08):
No, I think you had a
good segue into Third Base,
where they were talking aboutyou know, would you go for X
amount of money and then justleave right away in the floor?
That's exactly what one of theguy's strategies was.
He said I told my wife, if Igot a shot at going for 20, I'm
going for 20.
You know, I would do the samething.
(24:29):
He jumped right into it andthen quickly fell off the cliff.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
No disrespect, but
goodbye, he, just he went
bye-bye.
Um, but yeah, I mean, I don'tknow, dude, I I would.
Here's what I would do.
I would go for the 20 g's ifI'm fairly confident in the
category and or I felt like theperson who was holding the
category maybe they inherited itright wasn't?
Speaker 2 (24:55):
that just pretty
important there, yeah or how
long they've had.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
If they've had just
got the category and they didn't
have off time in betweentapings to study, I might be
going after them if I felt likethat was a rather strong sitting
on that for multiple days, maybe wait and pick someone else
so we've called it.
by the way, a couple episodesago we called that rodeo
category exactly what it wasgoing to be the bell buckle, the
(25:19):
artist.
It was exactly.
I was like, oh, this is nothing, I mean, okay, rodeo.
I think they need to start.
I have a criticism.
I think they need to startgetting a little more creative
with the categories and I thinkit's getting really boring to
see just pictures of randomobjects.
It kind of is kind of blah.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
That same
conversation came up while we
were watching the same episode.
Yeah, they need more.
They need another one.
Is they need more of adefinitive what is right and
what is wrong?
Because sometimes they takelike part of an answer and
accept it and sometimes theydon't like a perfect example
(25:59):
when they got to the crayoncolor one which, by the way, oh
my god, that was such an easycategory.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
How did she miss some
of those?
But?
And you could just say yellow, red, boo.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
I mean, there's
strategy to that right, and
that's where, exactly where Iwas going with that.
The macaroni answer yeah, theydidn't accept mac and cheese.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Come on but like for
other ones, they didn't have to
say like they just need to getmore consistent with that
because, honestly, everyone Idon't know anybody who says
macaroni and cheese everyonesays mac and cheese, exactly
like.
Here's what I think onesolution and if you're listening
, um, um, fox, fox people, umone solution to that is that you
(26:41):
, I think the floor would bebeneficial if it was more pop
culture centric, meaning all thecategories have to do with tv,
movies, sports, um, even history, but make it pop culture
related and not like randomobjects in a kitchen drawer.
I think those are horriblecategories and I don't think
(27:01):
people really care about themyeah we all know what a stapler
is, we all know what a paperclip is, who cares.
But you know, that's.
That's a criticism I have.
Like what in the dog careenough?
We had the dogs last season oneand now we're having dogs again
.
We had that a couple episodesback, did that play again, it
did.
Yeah, they had puppies this timeinstead of dogs.
(27:23):
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, orsomething like that.
And my buddy Josh was in seasonone and he had dogs.
That was his category and hegot out very early.
But why are you going to like Idon't understand it, like,
don't like, think more about it,it's it just.
I almost feel like someone'ssearching the internet for
(27:44):
random pictures and then they'rejust kind of going to
Shutterstock paying for them andthat's the show and that's it.
And I think you know.
Listen, if you want to hire awriter, I'd be willing to do it.
Um, I'll give up eligibility todo that, but, um, cause you
could, it's so much you could dowith that, and but I do like
this.
I have a have a good positive.
I do like the time boost thatthey did last this year, because
(28:04):
it makes people kind of go forthe third win.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Definitely that was a
big plus.
Very good.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
What I didn't like is
I don't like love the guy from
clerks um.
However, I don't like to seehim just winning, because either
people aren't going after him,etc.
I feel like there should be amechanism in place at the end of
each episode that says whoeverhas the most floor is
(28:33):
automatically challenged by arandom person on the floor, and
they don't have to be adjoining, but they put a mechanism in
place so that they have to gofor it, or something like that.
I just feel like it's.
I mean, if I'm standing thereas a contestant with him
collecting all that money andyou kind of heard it too from
(28:54):
contestants in the last episodeI'd be a little pissed Like why
is he get to keep getting money?
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Cause he's just
standing there and um so on that
topic we've talked, we'vementioned a couple of times that
the, and they've obviouslyruined it with how much someone
wins, at least now in tonight.
In this episode we're talkingabout, he splits it this time
for 10.
Yes, does that mean they'resplitting it again next week?
Speaker 1 (29:22):
no, I, I'm, I'm
thinking.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
I remember hearing
110 oh, okay, I thought I
thought we had you had mentioned120 and maybe I was.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
I think I was
mistaken.
I'm thinking he he does not getthe money next week.
I'm thinking.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
The spoiler is he's
out next.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
Which makes sense.
Either he's out next or theother side of the floor has the
same amount of land, so I thinkmaybe that starts building up.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
And he's still in it.
Yeah, because the one who tiedis still going.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
Which, if you think
about it strategically for him's
the best bet.
You know why?
Because now all the pressure ison them to get picked.
You understand what I'm saying?
Yeah, like they're more pronebecause they have more pieces of
floor, so now they're moreattractive than he is, than
brian is.
So yeah, I don't know like, like your meme.
(30:14):
Oh, so yeah, any otherinteresting?
Speaker 2 (30:23):
tidbits from that
episode that you want to talk
about.
Yeah, we also need to talkabout how it ended.
To set that up, one morecritique that, since apparently
this is what we're doing andthis one we're just throwing out
all the critiques, but they gotto stop ruining what happens in
the episode with the title whatwe're doing and this one we're
just throwing out all theircritiques, but they gotta stop
ruining what happens in theepisode with the title oh yes we
talked about that they did itagain because of this episode
(30:46):
was something like a newcontender emerges.
So halfway through the episodewe're like okay, well, clearly
someone is going to eitherchallenge brian or someone else
is going to catch up, and atthat point there was only the
one other person who was evenclose.
So once they started gettingover there, we're like okay, one
(31:07):
of the two of them is going toget up to or pass, because
that's the name of the dangepisode.
Why do they really do that?
Speaker 1 (31:17):
why do you spoil an
episode?
Why do you do that?
I don't understand like it's.
I mean, in this day and agewe're streaming.
It's bad enough that most ofthe stuff if you, if you and I,
you and I are on social media alot it's hard not to get spoiled
sometimes with these things, but why do it in the title?
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Speaking of Fox there
were some good battles.
There were.
Do you want to talk about anyof them?
Speaker 2 (31:45):
No, it's okay.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Speaking of Fox real
quick.
It's not really one of ourbases.
We're still on that base.
Lola, who was on we Are FamilyWith Us.
She is Carney Wilson's daughter.
She made it to Hollywood Week,so she has a golden ticket.
Congratulations, lola.
(32:08):
She will continue on AmericanIdol.
They had half of WilsonPhillips on the show with her
singing Hold On, which is one ofmy favorite songs, and that was
.
Yeah, it was a good moment, itwas fun.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
And we also had Luis
Fonsi as an answer on the floor.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
I was going to say
yes, another we Are Family
connection.
Signs, signs everywhere, signs,signs everywhere.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
And then, as I
mentioned to you also, Kenny the
Jet Smith was all over MarchMadness.
Yes he was, and they showedbill murray of course bill
murray.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Come on, and bill
murray.
Bill murray was of course intokyo a couple weeks ago, last
week, um traveling a lottraveling man.
Um yeah, so cool stuff.
Um so, moving on to the nextbase, previously on survivor.
Um, before we get intopreviously on survivor, there's
(33:02):
a preview for this week'sepisode where Jeff Probst is
legit crying.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
I hope.
I wonder what happens there.
You have any predictions?
Speaker 2 (33:09):
When you're watching
March Madness for four straight
days, which is on the CBSnetworks, you see that
commercial a dozen times a day.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
So, now that you've
seen it so many times, do you
have any predictions on whathappened?
Speaker 2 (33:25):
I think it's
something to do with Mitch
during the challenge.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
That's my guess I
think someone gets hurt yeah, oh
, you think it's an injury well, you know, hey, he says in the,
in the I mean, they could editthis anymore, but he's like
breathe, breathe and I'm likebreathe so maybe it's, maybe
it's mesh oh, that makes sense.
(33:50):
See, I knew you would come upwith it.
I think that's what it is.
I think that's really what itis.
I think, I think and Jeff getsemotional because he relates to
it somehow, maybe- yeah.
Dude, you're pretty good.
You're pretty good atpredicting stuff.
You should do that for a living.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
I think that it.
I will say that the more timesyou kept seeing it, it does seem
like it's going to hit.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
During the challenge
right.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
No, I'm just saying
that the moment is probably
going to hit emotionally.
Speaker 1 (34:26):
I'm concerned because
I might have a moment cause
that.
You know I get I'm a prettyemotional guy when I'm watching
this stuff and stuff affects me,and especially if I can relate
to it and I have had my share ofpanic attacks so I can
definitely relate to that and uh, yeah, I had one in atlanta hey
, it all turned out in awarehouse somewhere.
(34:48):
What was going on?
Memories it all comes back toto that um dude.
Oh yeah, it's so survivor.
You want to talk about theepisode?
Speaker 2 (35:02):
yeah, how about the
fact that not a few minutes into
it, it looks like they're aboutto start a challenge right away
and it's like wait, why arethey called in so early?
And then, of course, when youhave one tribe that loses
everything, you can't reallyhave a six on six on three
anymore, so we have to try toswap.
Drop those buffs.
(35:22):
One of the probably like theearliest you could ever have.
One, right, I mean you can'tget any earlier than that.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
It's weird.
And so on the island, what isthis like?
Day six or something like that.
It's literally.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
I think it's over a
week now, or I mean maybe at
some point, but I think theyshow day eight and nine in the
episode.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Oh, okay, Okay.
So I mean, strategically, it'sprobably better for those three
that it's done earlier thanlater, I guess.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
What a reprieve,
especially after that last
tribal council.
He got lucky, oh oh you know,Did he though.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
I know I was going to
say she literally says all I
was praying for was to not be onthe same tribe as Cedric.
So of course I got put on thesame tribe as Cedric.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
Dude, she holds
crutches.
They're looking for cracks andthey found it already.
She, you know it never.
It ever ceases to amaze me,year after year.
We're in season 48 now peoplehave watched.
I mean, if you're going onsurvivor most likely you've seen
every season of survivor how doyou go out there and still play
(36:32):
that way when you know it's notbeneficial to you?
I don't understand it.
But she holds grudges, you know.
Listen, if that's me, I'mputting that shit behind me.
I gotta play this game.
Enough like I can't.
I can't be emotionally attachedto something that hurt me or
happened to me.
I have to be emotionally strongenough to say I'm putting that
(36:54):
aside, we gotta move on, let'sgo.
Um, she's holding on to it,which is telling me that it's
going to be a detriment to bothof them.
Yeah, or or, knowing survivor, they're both going to end up far
, far along hating each othereither either is correct.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
They can't get.
They can't get rid of eachother you remember rachel and uh
, last season.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Um, what's her name?
Rachel and uh, you know whatI'm talking about uh yeah, who
won genevieve rachel and?
Genevieve uh, they, they hadthat not.
Not like this kind of more, yeah, um.
So yeah, this season I will saythis season not for me, so far
not as good as last.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Last season was
freaking, unbelievable yeah,
it's been not the same start, but um it could I do love mitch
now I love mitch.
Speaker 1 (37:45):
There's some players,
I, you know mitch has a stutter
.
I love seeing people representand, and, and and.
You know, I know there are kidsout there that stutter and that
see this, this man going onnational TV, going on survivor,
and saying I can do that as aneducator.
That makes me very happy whenthat representation is out there
(38:07):
, just saying yeah, definitely.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Just saying there's a
good amount of that on this
season.
Speaker 1 (38:15):
Which is awesome.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
So the tribe swap
happens, the journey happens.
Right, was there a journey?
No, no, no, not this time.
No journey.
What you're?
Speaker 2 (38:25):
thinking of is they
kept talking about other
people's journeys, because nowthat they've swapped tribes,
they can hear stories from otherpeople, so some people may have
gotten caught in certain lies.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
yeah, but here's what
here's.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
I have a question for
you.
Okay, so you have a tribe swapand you're getting to know
everybody again, right, do you?
Is it safe to assume thateveryone at this point I mean,
it's season 48 already iseveryone at this point a fan of
survivor?
Who's season 48 already?
Is everyone at this point a fanof Survivor?
Who's on the show Like no one'sapplying that knows nothing
(38:59):
about it, right?
Speaker 1 (39:01):
No, yeah, I think,
because, honestly, if even I was
just a casual kind of if I know, you know you have.
I'm like big brother.
You have plenty of notice thatyou're going to be on the show
Big brother, you find out rightaway.
So if I find notice that you'regoing to be on the show Big
brother, you find out right away.
So if I find out that I'm goingto be on survivor, you know for
a fact I'm turning on paramountplus and I'm binge watching as
much as I possibly can.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
So yes, and we even
talked about last season
Remember curious.
Yeah, I'm always curious whenpeople are just oh yeah.
Curious when people are just ohyeah, I'm the biggest fan of
survivor and it's like are yougonna put a target on your back,
but at the same time, everyoneis the biggest fan of survivor,
so maybe just don't talk aboutit that much like what do you
(39:43):
think is the right there?
Speaker 1 (39:44):
it just, it just
completely doesn't matter yeah,
I honestly, I honestly the playfor me is just kind of be casual
and say, yeah, I love survivor,it's, it's a cool show.
Okay, let's move on.
I mean, I I don't think youconcentrate it, I think you do
not you, but in general thecontestant should do everything
they possibly can to avoidputting a light on their
freaking face exactly to pushthe, the, the flashlight, onto
(40:10):
other people.
The one of the strategic thingson a reality show like Survivor
, big Brother, competition wise,is you always want to, without
them knowing it, take thatflashlight, that invisible
flashlight, and move it overthere on that other person.
When you do that, all of asudden, you're giving yourself
(40:31):
weeks of other people beingtargets and then before you that
is a big key in these games isis to that social piece of
shining, but doing so in a waythat doesn't make you look like
an ass or shine the light backon you, and that was executed
perfectly by your definition inthis episode.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Because to what were
you just mentioned about the
journeys?
All of a sudden the one of thetribes.
Oh wait, no, that's not what wewere told.
We were told you had to play.
You didn't have a choice, andall of a sudden other people
start questioning what they weretold and whether or not they
can trust said people.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
So that's a good way
to start stirring the pot what
is a sure death on a realityshow like survivor is losing
people's trust.
When you lose people's trust, you're fucked.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Yeah, you're done,
you're done which You're done,
which, weirdly, in thisparticular instance, this is
definitely an outlier, not thenorm, but this person ends up
going home not because of that, because the people who started
to question the trust didn'tquestion it enough, where they
(41:48):
still stuck with him.
This time, this time.
But my thought here was, if youhave an advantage of some kind
and you even start to hesitate, and even one percent, and you
mention it more than onceyourself, how's that not the
indicator to you said dumb, dumbass.
(42:11):
The the going home with thingsin your pocket took a season off
and it's back yes, basically, Imean.
That's it, although this tribalwas good in the fact that you
know they had the double voteand it was perfectly executed
that travel was the only way youcould survive in a 2v3
situation, and she played itvery well I was very impressed
(42:35):
yes, I think the whole the wholetime.
The two of them have done anincredible job downplaying how
close they are.
Speaker 1 (42:43):
It's hard to do
that's how you socially play the
game.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
Yes, if that's to
take notes for future, if you're
ever playing yep, if you wantto have a strong alliance like
that, but you don't want peopleto know it, and that is
perfectly done.
Major, major kudos to kyle andand I'm drawing a blank, I don't
know why, I can't think of hername right now, but I know who
you're talking about, but yes, both of them were played it
(43:08):
great.
She was the only girl in thetribe and the three guys who
have been together.
What they?
They called themselvessomething funny.
Uh, the california girls.
Speaker 1 (43:17):
The california girls
alliance is what they're called
well, and they didn't know thatkyle was so close to her, so
that was a big oh, exactly thatwas an advantage.
Yeah, that was such an event.
If such, it was playedabsolutely beautifully.
You don't give up what youdon't need to give up and you
could see the look of shock ontheir faces.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
That's how well they
played it, because they were
completely blindsided by it.
Speaker 1 (43:40):
And those are the
best tribals.
After, when they go back tocamp.
That's the beginning of theepisode, and then they try most
of the time oh no, I'm not upset, I just didn't know, or you
know that that's usually howthey play it all, I'm not mad,
I'm just I'm not mad.
I'm disappointed with,disappointed in what.
(44:00):
It's a freaking game.
What are you disappointed it?
Um tough, you know, same thingif I was, if it was gonna happen
, you know, uh, man, I uh.
Survivoror is such a good showwe do have.
Survivor's finale was announcedtoday and Amazing Race's finale
(44:20):
was announced today.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
And they're not the
same day this time right.
Speaker 1 (44:24):
No, it looks like
they're.
Amazing Race is a week beforeand, yeah, and right now, as we
speak.
By the way, charlie, I will saythis the Amazing Race, season
38 is filming.
It started it's a littlespoiler it started in Amsterdam,
and, for those Big Brother fanswho might not know, amsterdam
(44:47):
is the original home of the BigBrother franchise.
That's where Big Brotherstarted, in Holland, and so this
season of the Amazing Racefeatures all Big Brother
contestants.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
Wow, well, that part,
I did know the all Big Brother
contestants.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
Do you know who's
playing?
I know most of them.
Yeah, I kind of told you.
I kind of told you, yeah, butI'll mention it for our viewers.
I'm pulling it up.
I know Chelsea told you yeah, but I'll mention it for our
viewers, I'm pulling it up.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
I know Chelsea's
playing.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
I'll do it out of my
mind because I can't find it.
Highland, I didn't know this.
Highland from the cookout isactually dating Taylor, who is
on the next season, who won thenext season.
So now they're racing together.
Joseph is racing with hisbrother and Taylor and Joseph
(45:40):
used to be an item Um, um, uh.
Tucker is racing, not withRubina, which was interesting,
he's racing with his brother.
I believe Angela is racing withher daughter and I do, um, also
, I, I, I already know who's thefirst out.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
Of course you do.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
I didn't try dude, it
just popped up.
I couldn't believe it.
But yeah, just what do you mean?
How has it popped up OnInstagram?
Someone posted it.
How did they?
Speaker 2 (46:13):
see it.
Speaker 1 (46:17):
A reality TV fan, I
think alluded to it or something
like that okay, um, but yeah,um, yeah, I won't spoil it for
you.
Um, I think what they're doingis they're filming that season
and they're actually going toprobably premiere it in
september, october, after thebig brother season, and probably
they're gonna for me I won'twatch, but you can't.
You don't have to spoil it foreverybody, you're not gonna wow,
okay I'll tell you amazing raceI'll tell you I'll spoil it
(46:39):
after the podcast.
Um okay, I will give you a hint.
You're gonna be very happyabout that.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Um okay and now
everybody else does no, they
don't, they't, they don't know.
They might.
They use context clues, butwe'll leave it at that.
We won't spoil it.
No, we don't, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (47:01):
You know, it's like
Tony Masellian, who's the boss?
Anyway, it's not a clue.
See how bad I am, I'm evil.
Okay, all right, enough If youknow who's the boss and you know
Tony, Miss Ellie works for it.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Yeah, yeah, we got it
.
You don't have to draw to theanswer.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
I'm just saying I'm
just, you know, come on, it's a
pop culture podcast.
I'm just all right, just havinga little fun.
Sorry folks, you know.
If you're upset about that, I'msorry.
Blame reality TV fan onInstagram.
Um, also, they started uhrumoring uh traders.
Season four is cast and theyhaven't even started filming
(47:42):
that yet.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
And but those are
just straight rumors.
Nothing confirmed, right.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
Yeah, we might see
Tiffany Pollard again.
Speaker 2 (47:49):
Anyone can.
Anyone can cook up a rumor.
Speaker 1 (47:55):
We'll see, I know.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Yeah, I would rather
not see Frankie Grande.
We'd also rather not see NickFial again.
Speaker 1 (48:00):
Yeah, yeah, so we
shall.
It seems like the rumored castdoes not match up to the
previous season at all, so Ihope it's wrong, but we shall
see One of the ones.
Speaker 2 (48:15):
That was interesting
in the rumored list was emmett
smith former cowboy?
Speaker 1 (48:18):
yeah, that'd be cool
I like emmett, I always have one
random one like that and he wason dancing with the stars twice
they had.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
They had nicki bella
one year.
They I like nicki bella theyhad dante wilder one year.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
They had Michael
Jordan's son.
Yeah, so yeah, anything elseyou want to talk about?
Speaker 2 (48:39):
No, I think we
covered it.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
We pretty much did.
I'm not used to the shorterversion of this episode, but I
appreciate it.
No, it wasn't that much shorter, don't?
Speaker 2 (48:47):
worry, no, it wasn't.
I'm just ready for baseball.
I'm just really, really pumpedfor baseball.
Speaker 1 (48:52):

Arizona.
Enjoy yourselves and you in NewYork and hopefully.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
Maybe you'll make it
to a game.
Speaker 1 (49:00):
I'm hoping You're
going to the warmer weather, I'm
going to the colder weather.
So there we go.
But yeah, I'm excited, we'llsee, maybe we'll go, we'll find
out.
Next episode We'll talk it.
Of course, I want to hear allabout your trip to arizona and
seeing the cubs beat thediamondbacks in how many games
(49:21):
two games series.
Um, we're going to two, but it'sa four game series so yeah,
sweep of the cubs todiamondbacks and then the
dodgers lose and then the cubsare already ahead of the dot.
I'm just saying, well, different division, but you know
I mean yeah, just just.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
let's just start
winning a few games, don't let
them win, you can go around theYankees, get the Brewers a loss.
You can do it, the Yankees canlose plenty of games to the
American League teams.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
Let's go, yankees.
Speaker 2 (49:49):
We should be rooting
for them to win all their games
against nl teams, just for theour own playoff chance okay,
just say, do that, we can dothat, and then they're gonna
beat the marlins and then theygo like oh and 140 in the al,
it'll be perfect they're gonnameet the marlins.
They threaten the socks recordfor 121 speaking speaking the
marlins real quick.
Speaker 1 (50:07):
I am going.
We get back from new york onfriday.
On sunday I'm going to see theMarlins and the pirates at Long
Depot park and they're givingaway Jeff Kona and bobbleheads.
Speaker 2 (50:16):
So what?
What game numbers of the seasonis that?
Uh, that is four, I think.
Okay, I was thinking I wasalready doing the math to see if
but it won't be able to soonYou'll miss skeins, then skeins

It's a ridiculous you
four dollars to come in I I for
these tickets.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
We're in row one in
the outfield and I think I paid
like twenty dollars a ticket, just like that wow, and I'm
getting a free bobblehead soyeah, um, basically anybody you
get a bobblehead, you get abobblehead because it's only
it's a free bobblehead.
So yeah, basically anybody youget a bobblehead, you get a
bobblehead because it's 8,000bobbleheads and there's no way
they're going to have 8,000people in that park.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
Those Mets games are
640, 640, and 440.
Speaker 1 (51:44):

I definitely would like to gothe 640, miami traffic sucks.
