Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Around the
Bases, a pop culture and sports
podcast with your host, bradleySeymour, and I'm Tim Sternberg.
Hit it, nick.
We are back after a one-weekhiatus.
(00:29):
How you doing, buddy?
What's up?
I'm doing well.
How are?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
you doing.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
I'm doing great man,
a lot to talk about, you know,
because we took the week off.
There's a lot, lot, lothappening.
We have a huge later on in theshow, a huge conversation
happening about baseball and twoparticular teams in baseball
that we are big fans of.
So we have a lot to talk aboutin that regard, and what better
(00:56):
than a podcast that talks allabout the Cubs and the Mets?
So later on in the podcast wewill be talking all about
baseball.
We'll also be talking in thisepisode about the show Got to
Get Out that was streamed onHulu.
We have that coming up.
We are also going to talk aboutthe floor finale.
(01:20):
And coming up right now we'regoing to talk about Survivor
Previously on Survivor.
And coming up right now we'regoing to talk about survivor
previously on survivor.
So, charlie, where did we lastleave off in our discussions of
survivor in last week's episode?
Your memory, your youngermemory, is much better than mine
, my friend, so well, it'seasier to work backwards, so all
(01:43):
, so we'll start with thisweek's episode.
How about that?
Speaker 2 (01:45):
There were nine left.
So before that, was that thedouble, or did we already talk
about the double?
There was one in between.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
We did talk.
We talked about the doublebecause, remember, I was talking
about how, say kind of, oh, youknow who Think about the jury,
you know who got eliminated.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I do remember.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
It eliminated.
I do remember it was.
Was her name chrissy chrissy, and she's talking all about the
muscular people and this is agood preface for this week's
episode.
So we kind of build up.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah she, she put a
target on herself there, huh
dude, you know, listen, you know, survive you.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
you'll agree with me.
It's all about the time and theplace.
There's a time and a place foreverything the comments and if
she just waited a week or two,she probably would have had a
much, a little bit maybe notmuch, a little bit better
position in the game.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Would you agree?
Definitely yeah.
There's too many times peoplejust got to put their foot in
their mouth the social game.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Bro, my god, what is
wrong with people like and and
that.
That goes for this week.
I will tell you.
You know, so chrissy goteliminated.
Not much really to talk aboutthat week.
I mean, it was pretty.
I don't know.
I I don't know about you.
I thought pretty much it was akind of a foregone conclusion,
what was going to happen.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Um you know,
sometimes you're like wonder.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, it seems like
for a while the, the one core
stronger Alliance was just kindof taking out weaker opponents
one at a time, and then thisweek, maybe, maybe, maybe they
finally wised up.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I hope so.
I mean from this move.
I think they maybe have.
I am still concerned about Evaand about what's her BFF.
I forget his name, joe, joe thefirefighter.
I love them both, don't get mewrong.
(03:46):
And I wouldn't be upset if theywon.
I'm going to say that straightout.
However, if I'm one of theother players in the game, like
a Mitch, for example, whoreceived some votes this week.
He did, I'd be concerned, um, alittle bit, you know, because I
I don't know if I'm playingsurvivor.
I'm always thinking two votesahead of where we're currently
(04:10):
at and you're never quite safe.
Um, if you, even if you, youknow your torch is not the one
that's snuffed out that week.
It's on the horizon and, and Ithink, in survivor time, what is
it like?
A day or a day?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
It's like every other
day.
Yeah, pretty much every twodays.
Yeah, every two days.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
I mean, it moves
pretty quickly.
Um, well, let's, let's, let's,let's lay it out.
Who was eliminated?
Um, ironically, david is atheme in this episode of our
podcast.
We'll talk more about thatlater on the floor.
Um, but david was eliminated, was eliminated, was voted out of
survivor.
Um, you could say eliminated, eliminated, you are eliminated.
(04:53):
You remind me of the weakest, remember the weakest link.
You are the weakest link.
Goodbye.
Um, so would you agree that oneof the worst social plays I
think I've seen in quite a whilefrom David, no social alertness
.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
You could kind of
tell when he was going on his
little rant at Tribal, and thenimmediately it was Camilla, I
believe, who was like oh yeah, but don't forget that all the
people you put over there have avote.
His reaction was just like youcould tell he had no clue.
He had no clue how to read theroom and none.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
It's almost like me
strong men, you, you, you know
good, you know it's like I, I'mgood and uh, there's no social
awareness, there's no listen.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
It kicked ass in,
challenges the muscles you know,
if his legs don't get out, hemight still be here.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
A hundred percent.
He's a physical threat, a hugephysical threat.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
And, as you let me
know, he probably still have his
relationship intact.
Yeah, at least another week.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
You remember he
talked on the show about his
girlfriend is pending whether ornot he wins the show, and
Entertainment Weekly put outsomething yesterday saying that
he said that since he didn't winSurvivor 48, his girlfriend
dumped him.
You know what.
Probably better for him in thelong run, because who wants
someone who?
(06:20):
That's what the contingency is.
Yeah, I mean, no, he was quiteannoying to me.
I was not a fan of his.
Um, if anything, I wanted tokind of be, you know, cyrano
jabirjurak, when he's liketalking in the person's ear, I
wanted to be that person in hisear, going have a social game,
(06:43):
have.
But I have a feeling if I didthat he still wouldn't get it.
You know it wouldn't register.
Yeah, I'm stubborn, you know hestrikes me as a stubborn guy.
I don't know him personally,but that's kind of the view I
have.
Um, it's a, you know.
Listen, I'm gonna go back tosomething I said a couple of
weeks ago.
It's a decent season.
It's not one of my favoriteseasons of recent, recent
(07:05):
seasons.
I've seen Last season.
It's hard to top.
Honestly, I thought last seasonwas spectacular.
It's a decent season.
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yeah, like you said,
it's going to recency bias and
all.
It's going to be hard to toplast one.
There are some very strongcompetitors but there were a
couple ones where you could tellyou were just kind of glad to
get them out there kind ofquickly yeah, I think this is
the season two of you know, likegoing back again.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Sorry to rehash, but
the lack of social play.
A lot of the folks don't knowhow to play social.
Now I will tell you who does, who's a master at it and who is
doing a great job.
You want to take a guess?
Mitch?
Mitch is, but more so even thanmitch um, I mentioned his name
a moment ago okay, so not him,not him.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
You mentioned his
name a moment ago, so then would
that be joe?
Yeah, lack thereof, because youdidn't mention his name and I I
told you his name well, you, you, you're so fat you identify
who the person was, and then Inamed that person wow, you're
(08:22):
calling me out like that.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Wow, what a fred you
are.
No, you're, I wouldn't say no,but you listen?
Uh, this is a great yeah he has.
Him and eva both have goodsocial games as well I mean look
, I mean I'm like this is adecent dude I I would have a
beer with him.
He's cool.
You know who I think?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
is doing a really
good job of adapting in the game
is Kyle.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
He's a wild card to
go all the way.
All of a sudden he's pullingoff some interesting things that
he kind of steered.
I know Shaheen gave that atthat he was planting it, but I
think kyle kind of drove it alittle bit as well.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
100 you know I will
say kyle was a nothing burger
for me for a good beginning ofthe season.
Didn't think anything of him.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
The last two episodes
I'm like whoa, and yeah he, he
turned it on his hiddenrelationship with camilla.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Was it camilla?
Yeah, yeah so jeff again, jeffsays these little easter eggs at
the beginning of the season.
One of the things jeff saidthis season was it's a season of
the duos, and I see exactly whyyou got eva and joe and you got
uh, kyle and camilla from thatcomment gathering all the other
stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I think, and you had
David and Mary.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
I think that's your
final four, or close to it.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
I think Mitch is in
the mix for that too.
I think that's what we're kindof looking at.
I don't think Mitch is going toget voted out.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
I don't see that.
That's the thing.
If Mitch doesn't get voted out,is he going to win?
Is his story better than theothers?
So that's why I feel like a lotof people eventually are going
to want to take a shot at him.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
He's a man with a
disability.
He has a stutter.
He's very engaging.
I find him very interesting andI would root for him.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
He's likable for sure
Very likable, for sure like
very likable.
I like his story, and that does.
Joe is extremely likable too, though yeah, those are the
people you want to vote out onsurvivor?
Yeah, so eva.
And let's, let's not forget eva, super strong, has an advantage
, has a hidden immunity well, not so hidden, but has a hidden
immunity, idol that may haveturned into double.
(10:43):
What does this sound like toyou from last season?
Who does that sound like?
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Rachel.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Rachel correct?
I think Eva is in a verysimilar position to Rachel,
probably even a little betterposition socially in the game
than Rachel was.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I wouldn't be
surprised in that, at least if
Eva is the winner of the season,I would not be surprised.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
I at least, a FIBA is
the winner of the season.
I would not be surprised Icould see her.
Joe Kyle, there's a lot ofpotential winners there.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
I could tell you
won't, if I can remember their
names.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
All right.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Identify them and
then I will tell you their names
.
African-american woman.
Forget her name, yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
No, she's not gonna
win.
Um, so she's been.
She's kind of on the outs.
She was on the three.
She was part of the three thatvoted for mitch, but david is
now out, so only her and evavoted for mitch.
Now so do that if it gets to,like, say, five people, they
(11:48):
might not want to vote her outanymore because they all could
beat her this is a truestatement and this is.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
This is what scares
me about this show, because,
honestly, between you and I, isshe worthy of winning?
Has she done anythingspectacular?
No, um, like you said, afloater I don't know, it'd be
tough.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
It'd be tough, I
think, to pull off the number I
don't think she'll get the votesyeah right, exactly, but I'll
survive another week or two andget a good buffer range.
Yeah, it could maybe be apotential person to bring with
and then you know other peopledo the fire what that means too
in survivor talk is, I amunderstanding.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I don't know
officially, but the further you
get along in the game, the moremoney you get.
You know, we don't know howmuch money people get, but it's
apparently increases by 10 or$20,000 every week that you
survive at this point in thegame.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
So I didn't know that
as well.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Yeah, they get money.
They get like 30, $40, getmoney.
They get like 30, 40 000 forjust appearing on the show.
So, hey, could you imagine umso just moving along the line
and yeah, they don't walk awaywith nothing, um, interesting,
and they get actually athreshold to make jury.
Like you get x there is, yeah, there's from.
(13:00):
I read something that there'slike that's why they push so
hard to get to jury, because themoney does jump.
From that point you don't getits pittance, like towards the,
the, like the 16th person orwhoever many people they have.
At the end of the season, thatperson's like maybe five or ten
thousand dollars and like itsubsequently gets more and more.
(13:22):
Um, I wouldn't, it wasn't evenabout the money for me, I would
just want to make it to jury, because I think that's the meat
and potatoes of the show.
Like, right, nobody remembersthe non-jurors?
Yeah, you do.
You don't want to be at thehilton getting ready to go out
on the airport.
Um, yeah, so they?
I mean, I, I think you knowwe're coming.
(13:44):
What are we like?
Uh, two or three weeks awayfrom the eight people yeah, so
we'll see.
Um, I think probably I forgetwhen the finale is.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
I didn't remember, if
you probably yeah, you're
probably right, probably two orthree more episodes before yeah,
so she, we'll see how, um howthat shakes out in Survivor Land
.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
You know, even in a
mediocre season is better than a
lot more stuff that we see.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
And there's enough
likable people still alive in
the game where you've gotrooting interest.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Exactly Wednesday,
may 21st, at 8 pm is the
survivor finale.
So yeah, we have about threeweeks left seventh first.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
So three more
episodes and then the finale
yeah, interesting.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Um, okay, so let's do
talk about a finale that just
occurred this week that was anice segue yeah, see I'm, we're
getting there.
Um, the floor, um, wow, um I.
You know, I made a comment to afriend today and I'll say this
I love the concept of the floor.
I love the idea of the floor.
(14:56):
I found this season to bemediocre.
Um, I'm kind of getting boredat seeing phot Photoshop's
pictures of staplers and garbagepails and stuff.
Honestly, it's kind of boring.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Hey, they did have
one category that was different
and it's where they were spokenlanguages that were so hard to
hear.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Dude, I would like I
would be.
So it wasn't good for TV.
That wasn't good TV.
That was a curveball.
Was that good TV?
I don't think that was good tv.
No, um, I honestly you.
It's hard to do video and audioclues when you have a timer
going yeah I think if they'regonna an adjustment here's my
(15:41):
thing on categories like that, throw the clock out and make it
a best 20 out of 30 or somethinglike that.
This way we can actually hearthe clues and give maybe five
seconds per clue, and I don'tknow if they'll even alter that
like that.
But right now I will tell you, seasons four and five are taping
(16:03):
in Ireland as we speak for nextyear, so that is coming back.
I was very pleased.
I will say I found them quiteirritating.
I did talk off the record to acontestant from this season.
I've been chatting with themand I said to them I go, david
is quite annoying to me.
You know he's the Jeopardychampion and whatnot.
(16:23):
And I go, I, david is quiteannoying to me.
You know he's the Jeopardychampion and whatnot, and I go,
you know what?
He was really a nice guy.
He kept, you know, he read alot and he kind of kept cool,
quiet.
But he wasn't like that on, youknow, when he wasn't on camera,
and I get that, but on the show, I don't know, there's
(16:53):
something about the cockyintellectual that really gets to
me.
Yeah, he played it up too.
Yeah, he did.
It was like I'm on Jeopardy.
I am smart, I like the, I Iknow everything and oh, get the
crown, and I'm gonna be goodwith the crown and I'm good dude
.
I mean, I understand they lovethat tv, good tv.
But come on, you don't have tolook like that.
But I don't know.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah, I thought it
was interesting that they at
least three or four of them seemto be gaming, you know, gaining
up on him together, which wasbrilliant.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
First time I've ever
seen that on the show, by the
way.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Strategy he ended up
losing on his own in the final
three.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
But it was
interesting, though I see what
they were doing.
For example, they didn't wanthim to get the crown category if
he defeated this person, so I,I, they were playing defense and
I I get it.
Um, and you're right, it didn'tend up happening.
I will say this the floor is aperfect example.
I played an online version ofit.
(17:48):
Shout out to Matt Hunt Greatjob.
When I played the onlineversion, I can tell you that
from that experience, at anygiven Sunday, to quote a quote
anybody could not do well onsomething that is like this,
because not everything, even asbrilliant as you are, as in your
wheelhouse, just takes one ortwo clues to throw you off.
(18:10):
And it takes like losing fiveseconds and the other person
gaining it and then you passyeah.
That's why, if I ever go onthat show, if they ever have me
on that show, I would pray thatI have a corner, like this guy
did, which was brilliant, andthat's exact.
Again, another season where thecorner wins um and similar
corner to season one.
I know you didn't see seasontwo, um uh, but a shocker, uh,
(18:35):
by a spoiler.
Season two did not have acorner win, so there you go.
Oh no, now I'm not gonna watchit all right, I just eliminated
30 people, um, but you know it'snot a bad strategy to play off
uh defense when you're on, whenyou're on the floor.
I I will say that.
(18:56):
Um, I thought the winner wasdeserving I.
I I found him to be intelligent, engaging the chef.
Um, I I was fine with eitherone of them.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Honestly, at the end,
how did it work out that they
got a food category as one ofthe final three for a chef?
Speaker 1 (19:12):
I was like WTF with
that, come on, come on, a little
bit teed up there.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
But then the other
guys did have the second one.
Yeah, it was just odd.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
When I saw it saw I'm
like really, really, guys, like
the whole universe, and I don'tknow my suggestions, for I mean
I would keep it more popculture based or history based,
where there are actual picturesof people and places and less
pictures about inanimate objects.
There's nothing interestingabout seeing a bowl of pasta on
(19:45):
screen.
Who cares?
Honestly different kinds ofnoodles the breakfast, the
different kinds of eggs, eggsbenedict, eggs florentine.
There's nothing interestingabout that there's still.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
There's still no
universal.
If they say one word, it'sright or not.
There was one of them where Iwas like how did he not get
credit?
And it was david, who I didn'teven like, and I'm like how did
he they not give him credit forthat?
That seemed kind of rough.
He ended up being moot and hewon that one, but that was a fly
in the wall.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
I would love to see
the game rules.
You know every game show hasrules.
I'd love to see how the rulesare set in that.
I, you know, I mean in any gameshow, as you and I both know,
the rules of the producers arefinal.
Um, that's a big thing theythat it's kind of an umbrella
they use, so it would beinteresting to see that.
Um, anyway, good, good, goodseason.
(20:34):
I hope they make somecorrections, course changes and,
uh, maybe ease up a little onthe celebrities although I have
a feeling that's probably goingto be even more um, because I
remember them.
Someone was saying in castingthat they were looking for like
people that have been on realityshows and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
So like the bachelor
in paradise couple yeah, who I
didn't?
Speaker 1 (20:57):
I don't know you
watched that.
I didn't know them at all.
Um I I know you guys watchBachelor.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
I didn't know who
that was.
I knew who they were.
That was the extent of it.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
The Jeopardy Champ.
I mean, if they're going tohave celebrities on, they should
at least have former.
We Are Family contestants onthe show.
I'm just saying Hello Fox, so Ican always stick my foot in it
and get it off.
I don't care, um.
So let's talk about got to getout.
(21:34):
So I'm going to preface this bysaying my expectations were met
.
I think it was.
It's a good show in its premise.
A couple things lacking in myopinion.
(21:59):
I think there needs to be someside games in the game that
offer advantages, disadvantageswithin the game mmhmm, instead
of random chance by a tickertape yeah that's the one thing I
think there needs to be a sortof a power player, like you have
(22:20):
in big brother with the head ofhousehold winner, or you have
on survivor with the immunitywinner.
Um, every show, amazing, right, they all have some kind of
advantage or power that you earn.
Um basically got to get outfrom just looking at it.
It's based it's really toolinear for me.
(22:41):
It's you get a ticker tapeeither you and and it's I'm sure
it was supposedly random, butwho decides who gets the, the
gets the thing and who doesn'tis weird to me.
And at that point cast somesmarter contestants.
(23:01):
I mean, for lack of a betterterm, you had literally speaking
of the Bachelor.
You had the golden bachelorettein the show and she gets the
first advantage, dude, I got anadvantage.
I got it.
Do you not know how to play areality show?
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Yeah, that was really
bad.
There was no excuse.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Susan.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Susan, see, I
remember her name.
There was no excuse for that.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
What, the what.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
You know it's bad
when you're getting called out
by spencer pratt, yes, gamestrategy speaking of which, um,
they had all these.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Really, I would call
these high level reality stars,
especially more so villains.
I will say, um, on the seasonexample, amorosa and spencer
pratt, I found almost like theywere non-existent and almost
like just kind of passing thetime and not really themselves.
Like we didn't get the normalbitchiness that we got out of
(24:04):
amorosa usually, like we got oncelebrity big brother even, or
way back when with theapprentice we didn't have,
didn't have that Like that was,am I right?
Like that was missing?
Yeah, it was definitely toneddown.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
I wonder if that was,
and Spencer Platt too could be
a jerk.
Yeah, and he was, but not thatoften to your point yeah it
could have been worse.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
He's more like a
doofus, like the class clown,
and he was just wearing hiswife's t-shirt around all the
time for marketing.
So like, can we stop with theHeidi t-shirts?
Um, so, all right.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
What do you think?
Speaker 1 (24:48):
What was that?
My mic.
Can you hear me?
Yeah, all right, sorry, I did alot of talking.
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (24:55):
What opinions?
Um, no, I'm, I'm, I'm rightthere with you.
Um, there definitely could havebeen some, some things.
You know, you expect that witha first season.
Um, yeah, it's interesting, the.
The one thing that makes it alittle more difficult is they're
not eliminating anybody, they're just splitting less at
(25:15):
the end, depending on it.
Um, I would have liked to see itbe a little harder to stop them
from escaping yeah, so like onething, for example, not that it
came to play here in this one,but when they hit the button and
(25:36):
the gate is closing, like whycan't they still like I?
Speaker 1 (25:41):
mean, later on they
boarded up all the windows.
They did try to make it alittle harder, but there's got
to be a way to like not have itbe a simple touch that button
(26:01):
and then you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Like there's got to
be like a five-second delay or
even a three-second delay towhen you hit the button
Something that would be a littlemore fair to get people to
escape.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Can I piggyback?
On it real quick because I havesomething to add to that.
I agree with that 100.
What about what?
If they do that?
They make it harder for them topress the button.
But penalty you were talkingjust about eliminations and
penalty.
If you try to escape and you'recaught in the slower version,
you're eliminated, you're gone,you leave the house, you don't
(26:33):
get anything.
At least give a penalty to it,but also make it a little harder
to get them out and if they dothat, the risk might be that not
enough people will try toescape?
Speaker 2 (26:46):
yeah, put them in
jail.
What if you're locked?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
out right, some kind
of like hit the birdcage so dumb
, yeah, so dumb.
And how did they not help keepthe bear in there?
If it wouldn't, probablywouldn't have made a Right, some
kind of like the birdcage sodumb?
Speaker 2 (26:53):
How did they not help
keep the bear in there?
It probably wouldn't have madea difference.
But when he had his bear inthere for the kill switch or
whatever, they didn't help atall and they pulled it out.
And that extra 8 to 12 secondsof the buzzer could have made a
difference there.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
I almost feel like
they were building.
I feel like they were buildinga plane in the air and, as they
were taping this season, theywere like oh, this isn't working
, let's do this, and that's notnormally how it's done.
I'm sure that's not how theydid it.
Usually they have what theycall a show Bible, which is this
is what's going to happenduring, you know, for the
producers, so I for theproducers.
I'm sure that's not what it is,but it seems like it.
(27:32):
That's what I'll say.
It seemed like they were kindof trying to adjust for things
as they were going.
It has a lot of potential, theshow.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Would you agree yeah,
I mean I would be, probably.
I would say I would lean on theyes side that they'll probably
have a second season.
Maybe I'd say yeah.
I'd say I'd say maybe 60, 40,like a slight lead.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Yeah I mean it can't.
I mean they filmed it in a, ina mansion outside of toronto, so
it can't be that expensive tofilm right um, I mean not like
beast games which filmed in uhin like uh aircraft hangars and
it was looked very expensive tofilm built its own city.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah, which was
almost three different times
beast game season two is stillcasting.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
So if you're
interested, definitely go to
beastgamescom and buy um, um,but yeah, I, I will say that
maybe, yeah, I think you're, Ithink you're 60,.
40 is pretty much on the moneythere.
Yeah, um, not much to talkabout really.
It was so at the end, I meanfor folks maybe who didn't watch
(28:48):
, basically they split whateverwas left in, each get like 40
grand, which, honestly, and wetalked- yeah, it was.
It was going to be 38 a piece, but then two quit and they ended
up getting 43 and change if youtell dude, if you, if you give
me 43 000 at the end of areality show, I'm a happy man to
live in a mansion for a coupleweeks and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
I have all the food
you want and everything yeah,
plus I'm sure they got some perdiem and stuff yeah, it's, it's
not a bad life, um.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
So yeah, we'll see
what happens two weeks.
Did you see, though?
Uh, real quick, yeah, exactlyreal quick.
Um, they did.
I just saw the trailer todayfor destination x on on NBC.
That's a new show coming out.
Basically, do you know thepremise of the show?
Speaker 2 (29:35):
I do not.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Oh, you're going to
love it.
So they are all in a plane likea private jet, and the windows
are down, you don't know.
The jet takes off and flies toa destination.
They have no idea where they'regoing.
They're taken out andblindfolded and brought to a
(30:02):
normal tourist spot.
That is gamified and you haveto try to figure out where on
earth you are San Carmen, sanDiego, where on earth you are,
and basically the end game ofeach episode is there's a giant
map, almost like a pin the tailon a donkey.
Each player decides on the mapwhere they are.
The player that is furthestaway gets eliminated and they
keep playing until they meet thehost, and the person who meets
(30:26):
the host wins $250,000.
Interesting.
And they're traveling all overthe world, fascinating A couple
people we know are in the show.
You ready, I'm ready.
Peter from the Bachelor and whois on the Traitors, is on the
show.
He comes in a little later.
Pilot.
Pete and one of our favoriteBig Brother players of all time
(30:49):
is on the show is that sarcasmor real?
Josh.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
Martinez, oh, no,
okay.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
I wanted that
reaction in real time.
That's too bad.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
Can we not see Josh
Martinez, can we?
Speaker 1 (31:05):
not see Josh Martinez
on another show, please?
Speaker 2 (31:07):
That's a shame.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
The only thing I
remember about Josh Martinez.
I remember a lot but thebanging of the pots and stuff
and never mind the channel justthose two episodes too many,
just those two people that weknow of no, there are others.
Uh, let me look and see if Ican no, but I meant like the
(31:30):
people that we would know.
No, there's others.
I think I think there are.
Let me, let me look real quick.
I mean I don't know, I don'tknow, dude, Okay, jana, I don't
know who she is, kim, and then alot of just, it's one of those
(31:54):
again, like, where they'remixing the reality stars with.
I'm going to send it to you onInsta real quick so you can kind
of see it.
Maybe you recognize some ofthese people I just sent it to
you on Insta.
So, josh and Peter, for sureit's hosted by.
(32:24):
So yeah, here's the trailer.
Um May 27th it premieres on NBC.
So Peacock NBC, um, and they'recalling it Summer's Biggest
Adventure.
I'm actually looking forward toit.
I think it'll be good.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
So, yeah, they're
like in a plane and get there
Love Island, USA.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Yeah, I don't know
anybody else from there.
It's hosted by an actor,Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Oh, I know him.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
Yes, he's in the
Walking Dead.
Yes, yes, he was.
Yes, yes, that's where I knowhim from, um, so you and I will,
I'm sure we'll talk about,we'll, we'll be covering that in
this in our summer slate ofbeautiful shows, including big
brother and other shows, oh yeah.
So, speaking of beautifulthings, charlie, let's talk
(33:33):
about Go, cubs, go.
I don't sing like Shota Meetthe Mets, meet the Mets, greet
the Mets.
I literally saw a reel onInstagram today of this dude
taking a video in the train 7train coming home from Citi
Field and he goes meet the Mets, greet the Mets, and the whole
(33:56):
train starts singing and it justgave me goosebumps.
But, yeah, let's talk about theMets and the Cubs.
Man, we are a podcast of twofans of both teams.
How are we?
Speaker 2 (34:08):
doing?
I'd say both teams are doingpretty, pretty, pretty well,
pretty good.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Yeah, I, let's do
that pretty, pretty, pretty good
.
Um, wow, folks, the cubs andthe mats are in first place in
their respective divisions.
Folks, the mets currently haveyeah, the mets currently have
the best record in baseball.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
The Mets have been so
hot they may have only lost
like once or twice since we lastrecorded, which is like almost
two weeks.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
So hot, didn't the
Cubs sweep the Dodgers?
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Didn't that happen?
The Cubs did, and they won twoout of three in LA.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
Wow.
And, by the way, in every I'mseeing stats, the Cubs are the
predicted, the biggest predictorof winning the World Series.
What?
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Yeah, that was
baseball references.
What, yeah, that's?
I think due to the fact thatthe Cubs have done very well and
they've played 80% of theirschedule against the
Diamondbacks, the Padres and theDodgers.
They're literally done with allthree of those teams for the
entire year and it's stillanother week to go of April.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
How's God blessed us
this year, my friend?
Well, listen, speaking of bigteams, the Mets swept the
Phillies, the second place onLE's team.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
For a moment there I
thought you had jinxed the third
game of the series.
And the Phillies came back andI'm like, oh no.
And in my head I'm thinking, okay, well, worst case, at least
the Mets would still win theseries and then the Phillies
won't be on a huge losing streakcoming to play the Cubs next.
But here you had to go win allof them, because now we know
(35:54):
there's no way the Phillies aregoing to lose no way.
No way they're eventually goingto come back to earth, like
probably tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
They're going to win
in.
Chicago against the Cubs.
You know there's no way, butyou know it's funny.
You said that because as soonas I typed that.
So in a text to Charlie I saidcan we talk about how bad the
Phillies are playing?
And they ended up tying up thegame and Charlie's like could
you have waited a little bit?
Speaker 2 (36:23):
Yeah, you couldn't
have waited until the game was
over to wake up that Phillyoffense.
But yeah, the Mets have afive-game lead.
Five bowl games on the Philliesalready.
That's impressive.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
This is without, by
the way.
This is without Sean Minaya, this was without Jeff McNeil,
without Francisco Alvarez, whoare both coming back, and the
Mets optioned to AAA.
Once again Brett Beatty andonce again Hayden Singer.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
And they optioned
Beatty after he hit that second
level tank shot against thePhillies.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
So here's the deal.
If I'm Brett Beatty at thispoint I'm begging for a trade,
I'm begging for somethingbecause, honestly, he will never
get the time he needs unlesssomebody else gets hurt, and we
don't want that as a Met.
He just won't, he won't andit's not.
I'm sorry.
I know they say, oh, he needsto play every day.
(37:26):
I get it, I agree, but AAAisn't it.
Aaa pitching is not it.
It doesn't do him any favors.
He ends up I'll tell youstraight up, he ends up being a
beast to AAA.
He killed it Cause it's nothe's he, he should any other
team dude.
He'd be in the majors, likeespecially the Marlins.
Right, If he was on the Marlinshe'd be playing every day in
(37:47):
the major leagues yeah um and heneeds the reps, that's for sure
um, I think.
For you know listen, I'm not Isaw something during spring
training.
You know he basically passed bysome kids and he just ignored
them, even though they were likeplease, mr baby, and I just it
left a bad taste in my mouth.
(38:07):
So I'm not the biggest fan ofhis um, but you know, for his
sake, he needs the reps he needs.
He needs to play every day inthe majors, not in the minors.
Um, why couldn't they?
I mean, I don't understand whythey couldn't send down azekar.
I don't understand why they hadto send baby down after that and
(38:29):
everything I'm reading is thefans are like rare sterns L rare
sterns loss Um not not a goodmove.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
So yeah, that must've
be a, now that McNeil's up.
Listen, beatty, we know you'regoing to not get any reps and we
don't want you sitting everyday.
Stay hot, and then we'll callyou back up in two weeks, who
knows.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
But at this point
it's been like two and a half
years of this I mean honestly,I'm over it at this point.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
I'm sure he is he
could be a good change of
scenery guy I think sometimesyou just wish him, wish him well
this was like.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
This reminds me of
way back a couple years, a year
and a half ago, when we had Iforget his name, I think I
psychologically blocked it out,but you didn't know, the big
dude that nobody wanted on theteam, vogelbach.
Thank you, vogelbach.
For whatever reason, they kepthaving him in the lineup.
Fans were screaming send himout, dfam, et cetera, and they
(39:28):
kept putting him there.
And I don't know, and honestly,we'll see how mcneil does.
I mean the one thing.
I mean I'm not a not fan ofjeff mcneil.
One of the issues I have andalways have had with jeff mcneil
is he has a very short temperand he's not the greatest guy in
the clubhouse and it makes me alittle nervous with the
(39:51):
chemistry we have going on withhim, kind of coming back into it
, and I was kind of perturbedtoo by him going on dl and
seeing him play golf.
Like what the heck is that like?
What is that about?
Speaker 2 (40:03):
um, yeah, hey, if he,
if he comes back and hits,
we'll forget about it quickly,right?
Speaker 1 (40:11):
right.
But if he doesn't and he causesissues in the clubhouse, then
Beatty will come back up andthey'll give him another phantom
injury.
I know him and Alonzo are verygood friends and um, I'm sure
we'll see.
We'll see how it goes.
Um, he seems pretty negative,so let's, let's all right enough
about my team.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Yeah, but hey,
they're 18-7.
And let's make sure that whenwe finish on the Mets, that we
do finish with the fact thatthey're 18-7, best record in the
game.
What they just had?
A perfect homestand.
They're 12-1 overall at home.
Lead the league in pitchingAlso fellow Mets fans real quick
(40:54):
.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Can we stop at the
tweets about David Peterson and
everybody else being horrible?
Are we kidding here?
Right now, we are in firstplace.
Stop talk.
Stop tweeting about Juan Sotonot performing up to level.
Are you kidding me?
Any other team would want JuanSoto performing at the level
he's currently performing at.
Stop it enough.
Stop correlating how much he'sgetting paid with how much he
should perform.
(41:14):
He's a human being.
We're still winning.
We're still doing great.
He's still performing excellent, in my opinion.
Can we stop with that nonsenseMets fan base.
Like I don't get it sometimes.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
It drives me insane.
It's every fan base honestly.
Speaker 1 (41:31):
It's every fan base,
unfortunately.
Yeah, you know exactly what I'mtalking about.
Can we talk about?
Speaker 2 (41:39):
that?
Yeah, I'm looking for it.
It was pretty recently too, Isent it to you, right.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:46):
It was yesterday or
the day before it was.
I'll find it.
I'll find it.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Why are you finding
it?
I want to say real quick therewas a video I just sent you
today of Justin Steele literallyhanging onto his television
watching the Cubs come back, that's legit dude.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
That's legit.
Here's the tweet which hasthousands of views, it says
which has like.
Thousands of views and likes.
It says baseball fans watch 162games per year and are
completely furious the entiretime.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
Listen, I'm guilty of
that.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
I can't tell you how
many times I'm answering
messages about negative thingswhen I'm like they just won
another series Like my God.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Why aren't people
ever happy, honestly, and listen
?
The Cubs, like you just said, the Cubs just beat some of the
best teams in baseball and theydon't have them on the schedule
anymore.
They're done.
Give them some credit.
I mean, my God, I, your team islegit.
(42:57):
Legit, like it's not a jokeanymore.
It's not like oh, maybe you'rejust playing.
They didn't play the marlins, like you said.
Right, they didn't play thewhite sox, they played the
freaking dodgers, they playedthe padres, they played the
diamond bags, I mean, and theDiamondbacks.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
I mean, and the
Rangers?
Speaker 1 (43:15):
And the Rangers.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
They've played one
team only that does not have a
winning record, and that's onlybecause the Cubs swept them.
They have a winning recordagainst everybody, not the Cubs.
So that shows you right there.
Speaker 1 (43:29):
And it adds a layer
you know the most.
For me, the most anticipatedseries of the year is now.
Speaker 2 (43:35):
Cubs-Mats 100%.
Speaker 1 (43:38):
That's going to be
very interesting.
There are two teams that arepretty, in my opinion, right now
, pretty even matched, and Ithink that's going to be a very
interesting series both inChicago and in New York.
I think, wow, wow, we're gonnasee some interesting games.
Yeah, it'll be fun we'll see.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
Yeah, you got uh
there's, there's some you've got
you know, between the mats andthe cubs, and then obviously the
dodgers and the padres giantsare looking very tough, and then
you know the phillies and theBraves are going to win games.
So there's going to be a lot ofteams battling for only six
spots.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Braves have a lot to
come back from, though, because
I mean Acuna is going to comeback, of course, and you're
going to have Strider come back.
I think you know they'redigging themselves a little.
I mean they've been doing alittle better, but they've been
digging themselves a little.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
I mean they've been
doing a little better, but
they've been digging themselvesin a hole.
Yeah, they started 0-7, butthey're 10-14 now.
Speaker 1 (44:40):
When the Marlins are
doing better than you, I mean,
and the Nationals the Marlinsand the Nationals have a better
record than you.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
They're only half
behind the Nationals and one
behind the.
Marlins by tomorrow they couldbe even with both of them.
Right your time.
I'm just saying, well, let'snot count them.
I just don't want you toreverse, jinx them in the wrong
way.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
I'm just saying I
know 100% what I'm dealing with
with the Bravos.
Don't worry, I get it 100% andsame with the Phillies.
I legit thought when we playedthe Phillies that we would split
the series.
I didn't think that it would.
And we still have to go toPhiladelphia to play and you
know how toxic that environmentis at Citizens so we'll see how
(45:29):
that goes.
So that should be nice that'llbe a nice little break, wow.
44 games, the Nationals next,so that should be nice.
That'll be a nice little break,wow.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
Four games.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Listen, I don't want
to listen back at this episode
in a couple months to say howcocky we were.
It's just enjoyable for us tobe in this position where both
of our teams are successful and, quite quite frankly, on any
other day, as long as the Metsaren't playing the Cubs, I'm
rooting for the Cubs and viceversa with you, with the Mets.
It's a good, it's, it's, it's,it's a good, it's a good day,
(46:04):
it's a good day and it's goingto be even better when we're
playing each other, and we'reseeing that, and I'll be even
better when we play each otherin the NLCS.
I'm just saying yeah, so youknow pretty, pretty good
schedule.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
After that you guys
are home against the d-backs and
then you play st louis again.
So I mean we swept thecardinals too and you're welcome
for that, by the way, you'rewelcome yeah, hopefully we can
return the favor and take careof the phil's this weekend yeah,
and then we'll take care of theBrewers and do that stuff.
(46:37):
I don't know if you saw.
Did you see how the Brewersgame ended today?
Well, not ended, but thewinning run, what happened?
You did not see it?
No, so they lost 6-5 in SanFran, but the game-winning run,
so to speak.
I'll send you the video of it.
But the game-winning run was afly ball to left field and let's
(47:00):
just say Jelic did not play itas well as Ian Happ would have
played it.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
So Jelic dropped it.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
He may or may not
have dropped a fly ball right to
him, oh God, oh God.
He may or may not have droppeda fly ball right to him, oh god,
oh god.
Yeah, it was.
Uh, I wasn't upset by it I knowum.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
Is this?
It what you just sent me?
Speaker 2 (47:26):
yeah, I just sent it
to you.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
It's like just a very
quick little line oh, come on,
oh, come on how?
Speaker 2 (47:32):
could you not catch?
That it was almost a weddingrun look, look, look thanks
christian push.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
The cubs lead back to
three games I mean the way you
were describing it.
It sounded to me like it wasgoing back back, way back, way
back, and he was trying to catchit.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
No, this is this is
if I might, if I didn't look at
it, but I would guess thatthat's like a 75 percent or
greater catch probability.
Speaker 1 (47:59):
It was pretty routine
and watching yellich after the,
after the miss.
He's so lackadaisical like hedoesn't even care.
What is that?
Like I don't know.
I'm watching, watching thereplay.
Yeah, he, there's no, like Igoing to go back like a week or
two weeks ago.
There's none of that.
Ian Happ hustle that.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
Ian Happ hustle that
we saw the dive and tumble and
left.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
That's what we should
see here, right?
Or you know, mets related.
You saw the throw from JuanSoto yesterday to Senga at home
plate.
I mean stuff like that.
What is this?
And I'm folks that are that arewatching that I'm going to.
There's a clip playing overthis.
I'm going to be doing that.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
I'll show you the
play that we're referencing and
knowing you, knowing Tim, I'llthrow the curb your enthusiasm
music in there.
Speaker 1 (48:53):
I won't do that.
That's funny.
It's like the guy in Survivoror Eamon, he's like that was not
a good play by Yelich.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
if anyone wants to
see it, it was the game against
the Giants Thursday afternoon.
Pretty routine play.
Speaker 1 (49:18):
If I'm a Brewer fan,
I'm pissed off.
Why, like, I wonder.
Like you know, let me saysomething.
You know, when he got to theclubhouse, there were
conversations happening aboutwhat the heck happened, like,
where, what Like if I'm anotheranother player, I'm like dude,
where's your hustle?
Speaker 2 (49:36):
yeah, he was.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
He was getting happy
feet do you, do you by chance,
know what his contract currentlyis?
I'm sure he's making a lot ofmoney oh it's, oh yeah it's.
Speaker 2 (49:46):
It was like 180
something million uh, former
marlin.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
And, by the way, the
only foul ball I've ever caught
in my life was off of his back188 and a half wow, wow, wow.
Speaker 2 (50:04):
I guess he had
somewhere to go um, and, as you
know, he's not been the same thelast couple seasons.
No, um, well, just as a foodfor thought, they're paying him
24 and change million.
This year they own 24 millionand change it next year, then in
2027 they own 23.945 million.
(50:26):
2028, they owe him another23.89 million and then they have
a mutual $20.29 option for $20million in his age 37 season.
I'm going to go out on a limband say that that doesn't get
picked up, but we'll never know.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Well, you know what I
mean?
I'll say this for you you cankeep playing like that Christian
.
You know what?
Three-game lead, let's go.
You know, listen.
It's not understandablenecessarily why I don't like the
Brewers because, listen, theydon't play in my division.
But I will share, and I'm sureI've said this before they are
(51:09):
one of the most obnoxious teamsthat I know.
I mean, they're loud andthey're obnoxious, and Reese
Hopkins annoys the crap out ofme.
I don't know if it's a leftoverresidual of him being on the
Phillies, but I don't like thatteam.
I don't like the Brewers and Iwas very pleased I'm sure you
were too when the Mets beat themlast year with that Pete Alonzo
(51:33):
home run.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's what I'll say about that.
Anything else you'd like totalk about?
Speaker 2 (51:42):
No, I think we
covered it, I think we did
Extend Kyle.
Tucker Extend Pete CrowArmstrong.
Speaker 1 (51:49):
That's another thing
I want to talk to you so real
quick.
A M Met fan threw up a questionwhat do you think the chances
of the Mets getting Kyle Tuckernext year?
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Next to none next to
none.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
Next to none.
I honestly I know the Cubsdon't like to spend money, but I
see them spending money on himand I think they're going to
sign him, I think.
I think the chemistry is justunbelievable with him that they
can't afford not to sign him.
I think you're going to havehim as a long-term.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
I hope so.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
And PCA, Absolutely
why.
What are they doing?
Don't let PCA get to the PeteAlonzo point.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
No, don't, don't do
that Like speaking of Matt's
Twitter, I saw a guy post the.
I can't remember how he wordedit, but he said the death of me
is going to be knowing that thisteam is just a Pete Crowe
Armstrong, away in center fieldfrom being the perfect missing
piece, or something like that.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
Like really.
Speaker 2 (52:47):
Yeah, I mean you.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
You know I love Pete.
He's where he's supposed to be,but the Mets are doing fine
without PCA.
We don't need PCA to do better.
Um, you know, I that's thething, and we talked about the
fan bases.
Some bands are just never, ever, ever happy.
They're almost eternallymiserable.
And you could literally win theworld series and it's almost
(53:12):
like you know.
Remember his, remember his SNLsketch, debbie Downer.
There's always something thatthey have to bring up Like, oh,
we could have done this and wecould have this person.
And stop Enough.
