Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Around the
Bases the pop culture and
sports podcast with your host.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Travis Seymour.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
And I'm Tim Sternberg
.
Hit it, nick.
We are back for another awesomeweek here on Around the Bases,
(00:31):
a pop culture and sports podcast.
Charlie, what's going on, man?
Not too much.
How are you doing?
I'm doing good, dude.
We're going to talk about it alittle later in the podcast, but
we had a fun series thisweekend up in Citi Field with
(00:51):
the C and the mets and, uh, wehad some little fun going back
and forth and, uh, just what wewould expect.
Uh, it's good, so we'll talkabout that.
Um, we got some reality news, charlie what?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
what's the news
around the horn?
Speaker 1 (01:00):
you started off I'll
start it off.
So reality news.
Sorry I'm a dork, uh, a fox.
Fox announced today we'rerecording this on monday, um, a
new fall schedule.
And what's interesting aboutfox's new fall schedule is it
comprises about 80 reality tv.
(01:21):
I mean, it's there's kind offollowing through with what cw
started doing last year when itadded trivial pursuit and
scrabble.
And whose line is it anywaythere?
And honestly I it's.
It's understandable becausereality tv is much cheaper to
produce in scripted television, you know, can you imagine I
(01:42):
don't know if you know how muchan episode of the boys costs to
produce oh, it's something crazy, I saw crazy amount of money
because it's awesome but specialeffect, it costs money.
So you know, network tv, they'relooking to, um, save some money
and so they announced someinteresting picks.
I'll say I looked at it, I Iwas like, wow, um, and I'm going
(02:05):
to withhold judgment becauseit's brand new and we don't know
.
We know a little bit about oneof these, two of these in
particular, and we'll talk aboutthat in a minute.
Um, but, uh, we'll withhold alittle bit of judgment.
So I'm going to list some ofthe shows that Fox announced
today for the fall.
Uh, I'll start off with ourfavorite show, that's not we Are
(02:25):
Family, and that is, of course, the Floor.
The Floor is renewed forseasons four and five, which are
currently filming as we speakin Dublin Ireland.
They're filming it right nowand I am hearing rumors that
season four has a lot of realityTV stars in it.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Now what does that
mean?
When we say reality TV stars?
Speaker 1 (02:51):
I cannot tell you I
don't know, that's true.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
So general.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
It's very broad right
.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
And it's Fox related,
so like no, they can have other
networks.
Right, but you know, fox, theymight not want to showcase other
networks too much, that's true,um, but uh, yeah, I I love the
floor.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
I think it's a great,
well-produced show and, uh, I
look forward to two more seasonsof it.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I I enjoy it
tremendously what else is on
that lineup?
Speaker 1 (03:23):
so name that name
that tune is coming back, um,
not sure.
I I've heard rumors that it'sgoing to be regular people again
because in the last coupleseasons, you know, they've had
um celebrities.
And name that tune, of course,is hosted by jane krasinski and
randy jackson.
From american idol is themusical uh in charge and I enjoy
(03:43):
I always since I was a littlekid back in the day.
Kathy Lee Gifford was thesinger on Name that Tune.
I always loved that show, soI'm happy that that's back.
Our, not our buddy.
But the great Jamie Foxx iscoming back with Beat Shazam, so
that is coming back.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I heard about that
one Interesting.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
There's a couple of
shows moving from NBC to Fox, so
these are moves that arehappening.
The first one is the WeakestLink with Jane Lynch is moving
to Fox from NBC and it's goingto be a celebrity version of the
Weakest Link.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Is that a common
thing for shows to move from a
network to a network like that?
Speaker 1 (04:26):
not that it's
happened before, of course, so
different strokes is one of themost famous things I remember as
a kid.
It was on abc for years and itslast season it moved to mbc.
It does happen, um, but I don'tvery often hear about it
happening with unscripted.
Um, I mean american idol, ofcourse, years ago made that jump
(04:47):
from fox to abc.
Um, but it really wasn't a jumpnecessarily, because both fox
and abc are owned by disney.
So, um the fox, television isowned by disney so this one is a
non-same parent owner yeah, andI'm hearing from the reports
that they are going to bringJane Lynch back, because of
(05:08):
course Jane Lynch originally wason Fox on Glee.
She plays Sue.
Sylvester Loved that show.
I was a big Gleek, I was a fanof the show and it was back when
I was teaching so I relatedwith Mr Schuster.
Yeah, I know a lot of trivia onGlee.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
But you, um.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, I know a lot of
trivia on glee, um, but you
remember glee, I do, yeah, okay,okay, I didn't watch it, but I
know I'm.
No, you were not you.
You're not that, that wasn'tyou.
That's, that's definitely a timshow there was a good office
episode about that there was, and, speaking of the office,
real, off course, real quick, but they did just show the first
look of the paper, which is theoffice spinoff coming to
peacock, and you can see oscarnunez in the picture, which
(05:49):
really is awesome.
I love that they have aconnection to it.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Right, it there's,
that's good yes, oscar, you
could see sitting in thebackground.
Yeah, and also the one of themain characters I guess he's
supposed to be playing the bossrole is played by Dominic
Greenhall.
I can't think of his name offthe top of my head, but he's the
(06:16):
one who's standing up in theimage.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
You and I are both, I
mean for our audience.
Maybe they don't know, but weare both big Office fans.
We definitely.
Yeah, when they announced thisoriginally, I I went crazy.
I was so excited.
I know you're withholding alittle bit of anticipation
because they just canceled thefirst season of suits, which you
liked and, uh, I get that rightbefore the the final two
(06:41):
episodes aired too they didn't,they didn't air the final no, no
, they're gonna air them, butthe announcement happened.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I know it's it kind
of takes the wind out of the
sails right it does because youknow it's ending and there's not
gonna not gonna be a fullwrap-up, probably no, no, and
they're not gonna come out withlike a suits movie or anything
like that it's.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
It's sad because I
was we were just talking about
suits like maybe a week ago andI was saying I'm glad that they
brought harvey back, becauseharvey probably was my favorite
character in the original seriesum, he really drove the story
okay you ready to get newinformation for you?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
sure?
Last night's episode lewis cameback oh, I loved lewis.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Lewis is such an
obnoxious guy.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
I loved him, so we'll
see if they have any more, any
more up their sleeve.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
A fine finale, but
did they move lewis to the firm
in la?
Is that what?
Speaker 2 (07:33):
no um, without giving
away too much, lewis and one of
the main story of thisversion's characters are at the
same, like they're at like ameditation retreat for anger
management oh my god, and theybecome and they become friends.
It's.
It's honestly, it was prettyfunny anger management.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
That's all you have
to say, because I know exactly
the character that's funny.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
they realize that
their two guys, who are the
reason why that they're there, are both friends with each other
, harvey being Lewis's.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
So that's hilarious,
that's hilarious, yeah.
So.
So yeah, I mean I'm, I'mexcited.
I am excited about the papercoming out.
Knowing that this is the samecreators as the original office,
I think it'll be successful.
It is streaming on Peacock andPeacock tends to be a little
(08:29):
more giving and gives a littlemore leeway to shows to be
successful because it's astreamer.
So that's exciting.
I'm excited to see that.
So the other franchise comingto nbc from fox I mean from to
fox from nbc is fear factor.
(08:50):
You remember fear factor, hosted by joe rogan way back in
the day.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah, that was.
That was pretty old, wasn't it?
Speaker 1 (08:56):
yeah, I'll.
I'll explain the premise of theshow for those of you who are
probably too young to remember.
So fear factor.
It was a show on NBC ran everyMonday.
Every episode wasself-contained, so it's not like
your typical reality arc serieswhere you know you have the
same people from week to week toweek In every episode.
(09:17):
There were three challenges inthe episode there were six
contestants, three challenges.
Usually the challenges were onewas like a challenge where
they're either jumping off atruck or doing something like
that.
The middle challenge was almostalways a challenge involving
rodents, insects, nasty food toeat, something gross in the
(09:40):
middle.
And the last challenge wasusually a one-on-one type or two
one-on-three, or it was like acompetition, kind of like the
wipeout and game and wipeout.
It was kind of that type of ofcompetition.
But uh, fox announced todaythat they're gonna call it fear
factor the next.
(10:00):
I can get the exact yeah it'slike, it's like all the people
in one season, kind of like asurvivor big brother type, right
yeah, fear factor, the nextchapter and yeah, they're all
lived, they're all dropped offin some kind of weird house
somewhere and they're livingtogether, uh, and they have to
compete in the house inchallenges and listen.
(10:21):
This was one of my complaintsabout got to get out, because
there were no challenges on theshow really.
So, just alone and having thehouse and challenges.
I'm excited for it.
I mean, I was.
I was honestly fear factor backin the day.
I loved that show.
I watched it every weekreligiously.
Um, I remember at universalstudios and our buddy mike was
talking about it there was atraction called fear factor live
(10:43):
, where they actually I know acouple of people I know that
participated in that.
So I honestly believe it willbe extremely successful.
And now, in this day and age, with streaming and there's no
for sure whether or not they'rebringing Joe Rogan back, I mean,
everything aside, he has a verypopular podcast and fan base
(11:05):
and I'm sure he'll bring a largeaudience if NBC does decide to
bring him or if NBC decides togo a different direction, they
are currently, I believe, hiringshowrunners and if you don't
know what a showrunner is, ashowrunner is not you but in
general audience, a showrunneris someone, basically the
executive producer of theprogram, who basically makes
(11:26):
most of the decisions before thenetwork does, and so they're in
charge.
Basically, they're like thechief operating officer of
baseball, major League Baseball, the president of Major League
Baseball team.
They make the decisions thatdrive the production.
So I mean I think it's exciting.
I you know, as a reality fan, Ido love unscripted drama too
(11:51):
and unscripted comedy, don't getme wrong.
But I like to see more gameshows and reality shows on
television, and there are someshows that haven't well, so we
didn't talk about this.
House of Villains is moving frome to peacock oh yeah, that's
right not a huge move, becausepeacock I mean nbc, yeah, um and
house of villains is supposedto premiere in january.
(12:15):
So can you say coupled withtraders?
Speaker 2 (12:18):
I was literally just
going to say I bet you they have
it at a specific time once aweek like traders, because it
did pretty well in that, somaybe they're going to try to
piggyback off it and I think itwould be a real um, a smart
thing for nbc to universal.
They'll do.
They'll do.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
Traders drops at
eight, house of villains drops
at nine, something like that yep, and here's an interesting
thing too they um have not yetannounced the season premiere
date of big brother 27 um, whichnormally, by now, they would
have announced I was gonna sayit's usually right around.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
You said mid-may
right yeah, so I'm hearing.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
I did hear that
Amazing Race season 28 is
premiering this fall.
So putting two and two together, I'm going to imagine that the
finale of Big Brother will runinto the premiere, Right, and I
wouldn't be surprised if wedon't see Julie Chen at some
point on that season of AmazingRace.
(13:22):
It would only make sense.
They do end up in New York andI do believe that's her Amazing
Race.
It would only make sense.
So they do end up in New Yorkand I do believe that's her home
base.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Does she host that as
well?
Speaker 1 (13:30):
No, Phil Kogan hosts
the Amazing Race.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Okay, that's what I
thought.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
But I'm thinking
because it's a Big Brother
season of Big Brothercontestants.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Oh, maybe there's a
duo host.
A challenge or just a challenge.
I'm sure she shows up at somepoint.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
I'm thinking and I'd
be interesting to see if they
bring over any of the, you know, power of veto or you.
So yeah, that is our realitytelevision roundup.
Real exciting for us TV realitygeeks, of course, and there is
another Squid Game to challengeto coming out eventually.
I heard that was filmed, socool.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
And regular Squid
Game.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
And we have also this
new show ticket that is casting
currently, that is coming, based on willy wonka and a
chocolate factory.
Um, so, yeah, some good stuff, really good stuff.
Um, we'll have a lot to talkabout, my friend, we will.
Uh, well, we're definitely notlacking for talking.
We have not, yeah, and theyhaven't.
I haven't heard an announcementyet on deal or no deal island,
(14:48):
although I cannot imagine thatnot being renewed.
I think that's going to berenewed.
I can't.
I don't think it did that badly.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
You know what I mean
and they'll always throw in a
couple like it'll probably startin January.
Poverty type of realitycelebrities to keep the interest
up.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yeah, and it's being
a poverty shallow.
She mentioned on a podcast thatshe is working on a reality
show concept of her own and thatshe says has never been done
before.
Very cool, be interesting.
Yeah, I look forward to that.
All right, so that is ourroundup.
So we might as well round updown to Reality Road and
(15:28):
Survivor.
Mary Mary, quite contrary, shehas a lot of fans, apparently.
That's all I'll say about thatFrom the jury.
Yeah, yeah.
Well, I mean also fromapparently in the Instagram
universe site.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Oh yeah, I know I was
just saying that her biggest
fan was clearly in the jury.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Now can.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
I ask you a question.
Wait, hold on, let me juststand up here, go ahead, you do
it.
You've been menacing for liketwo straight minutes.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
You ready, ready.
And for those of you who arelistening, I'm basically staring
menacing not really menacinglyinto the game also standing
while everybody else is seated.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
What oh?
Speaker 1 (16:16):
why is that?
Speaker 2 (16:17):
by yourself on an
island, literally the dude is a
little scary.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
That was something,
but what was the point of that?
Like it wasn't intimidation.
And again he again, charlie, was at the entire tribal council
with not a single smile.
David, it's a game, it's a gameshow.
What are you doing like?
Yeah, lighting up bro show ofsolidarity for mary I get it,
(16:50):
but the whole, like the wholemenacing dude, what are you
doing?
Like it's a game show, I don'tknow.
Like I don't.
I almost feel like he's tryingto audition for the next one.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
You know what I mean
or or, like you mentioned, he
knew that his home life wasgoing to be no longer the same,
so he was just throwing it outthere.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Yeah, it's a shame
what happened.
Oh, you know I I'm notsurprised.
I wasn't listen.
I wasn't surprised Mary was wasvoted out.
I was disappointed Mary wasvoted out, not because I'm a
huge fan of Mary, because I feltas a as as a fan of the show.
I don't know how you felt thiswas the time to get joe out.
(17:34):
What are you doing?
What are you doing?
Why wouldn't you vote joe out?
Speaker 2 (17:37):
oh yeah, huge, huge
opportunity missed also a
mistake a whole, the wholeepisode was pretty much a
nothing burger another nothingburger, two nothing burgers in a
row.
They they pretty much just letare letting the main group.
We called this a couple weeksago.
Unless someone made a big move, this is exactly what was going
(17:58):
to happen joe and eva are goingto start picking them off.
They're going to start beingpicked off not only that, but
she still has multiple things touse, and she's going to get to
use them now.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
But if you, if you
write, and if you eliminated Joe
, if you voted out Joe, it, evenif she has multiple things, it
weakens her.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
It weakens her.
What do you do to use them onherself?
Now she has options.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
This nothing burger
of a week, charlie, I'm going to
tell you, and I know you'regoing to agree is going to end
up shifting the game.
If they had voted Joe out, Ithink the result would have been
widely different than whateverit's going to be, and I predict
at this point that Joe and Evaare going to end up in the top
three.
Um, I just I didn't want Maryto win, but at the state I'm
(18:50):
kind of rooting for Kyle.
Honestly, I like Kyle, yeah, but I just don't know, like why
wouldn't, why would this?
And Kyle kept saying throughoutthe episode I have to make a
decision, I have to make adecision.
Why was that the decision?
Like, what was the thoughtprocess behind that?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
They should.
I mean the voting went what sixor seven to one, so I think he
thought there weren't enoughpeople, for sure, willing to do
it and he didn't want to puthimself out there and expose it.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
I do have a question.
Do you think that I understandthat point, but do you think
that maybe he feels, maybe inthe back of his head, that he
can beat Joe on challenges, soit doesn't matter?
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Potentially I I mean
he has beaten him before.
He felt it's a not just an easy.
Another week or him and hissecret number one can get there,
and once they get down to likefive or six, they might only
need one or two people to flip, instead of needing like three or
four just in case to get thenumbers right it's a good point
so we'll see.
I think the big key will be inthis next episode.
If neither eva or joe winimmunity, if both of them are
(20:01):
exposed, you could either forcemultiple things used this week
or take one of them out.
It's got to be done this week, though.
They can't wait another.
They've already waited two toolong.
Can't make it.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Third and the play
too, in my opinion, is that you
pretend you're voting somebodyelse out and you make it so that
she doesn't use one of those oryou oversell.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
She thinks it's going
to be Joe, plays it on Joe, and
then they do something else.
Or you oversell, you know shethinks it's going to be Joe,
yeah, and then they do somethingelse.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
This is.
You know, listen, I've told youmy feelings on.
That's why I feel like thisseason is not, as I don't think
they're thinking strategically.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
They're playing like
it's like it's like 2010
Survivor.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
Yes, that's old
school.
It does seem old school, you'retotally right, like they're in
there for 36 days, which they'renot See back in old school
Survivor, you had three daysbetween tribal councils and you
had a lot of time for the socialgame.
This is not that.
This is like next day we'redoing a challenge, next day
we're I it's.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
It's not that this is
one big, strong group of a core
alliance, picking off everybodyone at a time and honestly, joe
is extremely like likable byeverybody on that jury.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
I don't see like
almost everybody on that jury
yeah, they're they're.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
They waited way too
long.
You know dave is gonna vote forjoe.
I mean, come on, they waitedway too long.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
You know David's
going to vote for Joe.
I mean, come on, alpha male, alpha male.
Of course he's going to votefor Joe.
It's almost the case of if Idon't vote for you, then I'm
weak because I'm voting forsomeone that's weak, that beat
me.
David's the type of dude that'sgoing to vote for Joe.
I can see.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Unless Joe's out.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
Right, unless Joe's
out and then he'll vote for Eva
is my guess.
Actually, I think Eva has astrong case of winning the whole
thing, even with Joe in thegame.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Honestly, there's a
couple other people we've
mentioned that if they just keepstringing along, could be real
wild card to the throne ShaheenShaheen they keep showing him To
the throne Shaheen.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Shaheen.
They keep showing him, camilla.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Camilla.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
And my favorite part
of the season has been Camilla
and Kyle's friendship.
I've loved how you know listen.
You often see these alliancesin reality shows where the
contestants, you know, kind ofpretend to be in an alliance but
aren't really in an alliance.
They are true.
I love it.
(22:31):
I love the you know ride or dieaspect of with air, because
that's kind of, yeah, that's howanybody who wants to really win
a reality show should play.
That reality show is ride ordie.
You have an alliance, you makean alliance, you keep the
alliance, you never betray thealliance, um, and you stay loyal
.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
So old school
survivor old school survivor.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Um, this week we will
have the, and I know you don't
watch, but the finale of theamazing race is this week.
Uh, it's a double episode.
Wednesday is a normal episode, thursday is the finale, and then
we have the finale of survivorcoming up sunday um, this sunday
, I believe this sunday.
Up Sunday this Sunday, Ibelieve this.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Sunday, really.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Let me check.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Oh, I didn't know, I
didn't realize that.
Why Sunday?
Speaker 1 (23:21):
Well, it's a
mid-month usually.
Let me check, maybe I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Interesting.
I always thought they just keptairing out.
I'm sorry, you're correct, it's.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Wednesday.
I'm sorry, you're correct, it'swednesday, may 21st, so it's
the following week is okay, yeah, this is the penultimate
penultimate, yes, penultimate.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
I never understood
that word I just know it means
second to last thank you you'rewelcome oh man.
Oh dude.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Um, so yeah, that is,
that is, uh, that is survivor
and either way, even as as lameas the season might be, it's
still going to be fun to watch.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
So yeah, and they've
the big.
It's going to be a big battleat the end with a lot of big
players who are still there.
Yep, Usually a few of them aremode, are mode down, so we'll
see.
It could be an interestingfinish, honestly.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
I'm excited for it.
Speaking of great things towatch, we teased at the
beginning.
Let's talk about it the Metsversus the Cubs.
I what's your overallimpression of the series?
Speaker 2 (24:32):
It was pretty good.
Most I mean first game wasn'tgreat, but the rest of the
series was great.
Well, it was great for me, Imean great for you.
I just meant in terms of anoverall competitiveness.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yeah, I agree, I
agree, I think we called it,
though I mean I think the teamswere pretty much on par with
where we thought it, though Imean I think the teams were
pretty much on par with where wethought it would be yeah, we.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
I was just hoping
there were no sweeps around and
there weren't.
In fact, we got a rubber match, which is always good let's play
a respectful game on saturday, yeah you guys, you guys played a
great game.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Um, yeah, I I enjoy,
I like it was.
It was good.
I I um something about when Isee, now that we've become
friends you know I've alwaysliked the cubs, we've talked
about this, but to see our twoteams play each other, I don't
know something a little extraspecial with it.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Um, yeah, especially
when both of them are good and
there is.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
We didn't know this.
Like, come on you, even you, mrbaseball, mind we.
It was great with tucker, butwe didn't know that our two
teams were going to be as goodas they are.
I mean, we knew tucker wasgonna was gonna give a lot to
the cubs, but my god, we bothhad them as playoff teams.
We did, we did, we both did saythat yes, 100, um, but the car.
(25:47):
Let's talk about the chicagocubs real quick.
I mean, p crow armstrong onceagain showed why he is not only
being talked about by you and I,but the entire league is
buzzing about p crow armstrongbecause, quite frankly, he's
blossoming this year.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
This is his year,
yeah um get in the league in war
entering tonight.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Yeah that home run he
hit with.
Yeah, it was a yesterday's game.
Speaker 2 (26:12):
It's crazy that was
the middle game.
Second middle game yeah oh mygod, that was sunday's game,
that was.
Yeah, it was yesterday.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
Yeah, yeah, that was
a crazy home run dude.
I'm like wow, um.
And then of course, it was adouble pete homer pete alon.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
So that was Cubs
Pete's 10th of the season and
that made him one of threeplayers in the majors so far
with double-digit homers anddouble-digit steals, two of
those three being Pete, carlArmstrong and Kyle Tucker.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Amazing.
So what do you think?
Do you think the clubhouse islending to his blossoming?
I mean, I wonder what that is.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Um, yeah I mean he
definitely had a big second half
last year.
The signs were there, but thisis definitely taking it to the
next level peter armstrong, ofcourse, uh, former met minor
leaguer.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
They endlessly talked
about it during the series this
weekend.
Speaker 2 (27:13):
And they showed a
bunch of the reunions with him
and Vientos, vientos and him arereally close, beatty, and.
Alvarez, that was cool to see.
Speaker 1 (27:22):
Yeah, you know, I
mean look, you go into trenches
and you know how minor leagueball is.
You go into trenches in minorleague ball, you become it's
almost like being on a game showin atlanta.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
You become extremely
close to people.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
You know, because
you're dealing with the bus
rides, drama, bonding and busrides and yeah, and the changing
in tents staying in the hotelstogether for those of you who
don't know, you know, and we'rea family.
We had a change in these tents.
It's weird.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
I don't think they
have to do that though.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
No, they don't.
They're a little better than uswe have the zipper.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
They might stand it
true, though.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
This is true, this is
true.
But you know, I mean, and soyeah, them kind of connect him
and vientos especially look like, uh, they were, they were
pretty close, um, so yeah, andbaity red hot baity is bats is
crazy there was a one game inone game he had two homers and
(28:21):
he was basically the hottestplayer, the one that cubs won
the game he homered the daybefore, the day before or after.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
That too crazy um,
yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
So I mean I I was
very pleased with how both of
our teams overall performed.
I mean it didn't look like wewere watching two of the best
teams in baseball absolutely 100, no doubt yeah, it was.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
There were some
really good games we and also
also, um, you know this and Iknow this because we watch a lot
of baseball.
But what was interesting to seethe internet get to see the
game was out, so the game wasbroadcast for free on roku.
But they use the sny speedproduction and team and all that
(29:06):
, so the I forget you.
You'll know his name.
I forget his name, but Matt'sbasically the director of of
basically the broadcast.
Yeah, has like a movie and filmbackground, so that he's getting
these like beautiful shots, like it's a film or a TV.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
I don't know his name
.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Um, I, yeah, I shared
the tweet with you.
I forget his name.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Yeah, I saw the tweet
.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Yeah, but kudos to
him.
He did a great job.
There were some really greatshots in that game.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
SNY is a top notch,
stellar broadcast.
I mean, I know you guys have agreat broadcast over there in
chicago with um, um, oh, what'syour marquee right?
Um, you guys have a greatbroadcast too.
I I've I've watched a couplemarquee broadcasts.
Um, and the sny team is justfantastic.
And of course, you know youcan't go wrong with ron, darling
(29:56):
and keith and nanda's on a team, especially for an 86 diehard
like me.
So love it.
Yeah.
So I mean we face each otherone more time in Wrigley, right?
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Yes, correct.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
August, I think.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, august or
September, so sometime towards
the end of the season.
Who?
Speaker 1 (30:15):
knows, maybe I'll
make a trip.
You never know.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Man dude knows, maybe
I'll make a trip, you never
know.
Um man dude.
I finally for the from the cubsperspective, now that that met
series just ended.
Finally we get to play some notas amazing teams, because the
cubs have played the dodgerstwice, the diamondbacks twice,
the giants, the padres twice, the rangers, the phillies, I
mean they've played everyone.
That's good so far.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Wait, who'd you beat
today?
Speaker 2 (30:45):
And now, today was
the first game of a 21-game
stretch in which they play theMarlins six times.
They play the White Sox, theRockies, the Nationals, the Reds
a couple times.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
The White Sox have
the Pope, though.
They do, they do.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
But finally I'd
rather play them with Pope power
than the Mets and the Padres, and the Diamondbacks and the.
Dodgers and the Giants and theRangers and the Phillies.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
That's fair enough.
Yeah, that's fair enough Forthose.
I mean, we have a new Pope.
He's from Chicago Real excitingand he's well well.
At first the reports came outthat he was a cubs fan and it
came out with his white socksand yes, um, his brother is.
You know.
They showed a video of him atthe 2005 world series.
(31:32):
Um, against the white socks, played the astros because at the
time, if you know baseball, theAstros were a National League
team.
At that time, that's before theMilwaukee Brewers, the
Milwaukee was an American Leagueteam and before they did the
switch, and so they were playing, of course, the White Sox in
(31:52):
the World Series.
Yeah, nicholas, I thinkNicholas Pepin, our buddy at Pop
Culture Roulette, told me thathe's a big fan of AJ Pruszynski.
So yeah, how about that?
Speaker 2 (32:05):
I'm just going to
clear up for the record that he
is not.
I got your back, nicholas.
We agree that he cheated, hecheated, but that's neither here
nor there.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
I love you, Nicholas.
I'm just teasing you, buddy.
I know he probably just drewhis radio or whatever nicholas,
nicholas don't don't, I'm yourfriend.
Still right, we're friends.
Still buddy, um, but yeah, uh.
So yeah, we had a little funlittle talk about aj brzezinski.
It was a drop.
What is a drop strike?
Speaker 2 (32:37):
I never.
I never knew this drop thirdstrike.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Wow, I never knew I
had a.
I told like I told him I had todo a deep dive into aj crazy um
and and the white sox ends upwinning the world series, right
that season yeah wow, um, okay,so we talked about them.
Um, oh, we teased this lastweek.
Charlie, a mutual friend ofours and I will say his name
(33:03):
because he has posted it eugenebeyond.
Uh, who charlie knew from wayback when hq, right, hq trivia.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yeah man, I miss
those hq days.
Those were the best them too.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
I mean, it was so
much fun to win two cents.
Let me tell you.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Hey, there were times
where you could win some decent
ones.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Oh, there was,
Because I never did.
Yeah, it was very hard to playbecause one question and you
were totally done, like it waslike unless you had a saving
thing.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
We got to play two at
a time because I would always
play with next to rosie, sobetween the two of us we got
probably close like 250 300bucks over the time for just
playing free trivia so you'rethe reason why they went
bankrupt oh, yeah, exactly soeugene, our buddy eugene.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
first of all, game
show legend Eugene Beyond.
I'll say that first.
I mean Eugene has been on whoWants to Be a Millionaire.
He's been on Wheel of Fortune, sound familiar.
He's hosted HQ Trivia.
He's hosted HQ Trivia and he'sbeen on the Price is Right.
Speaking of the Price is Right, the Price is Right has a rule
(34:21):
that they instilled, probablyabout 10 years ago, where you
can go back on the show every 10years.
So if you've been on the Priceis Right before, you can go back
as long as it's been 10 years.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Do you have to have
played on the show or even in
the audience?
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Either way right, no,
in the audience, it doesn't
count, it's only if you getcalled on down to contestants,
got it.
So eugene, famously, um played.
Squeeze play, I believe, wasthe game on stage for those of
you prices right fans like me.
Um, and he did not win.
Um, he didn't go to theshowcase, he basically left with
(34:59):
whatever they gave him at thetime, maybe the whatever the one
bid.
One bid is when you get on thestage uh, whatever the one bid
prize was, and also probably abox of rice-a-roni or whatever
it was.
Uh, and Eugene decided.
Eugene turned um, he had a bigbirthday, I think it was.
I don't remember what thebirthday was exactly.
Sorry, eugene Um, but he had abig birthday, I think it was.
(35:22):
I don't remember what thebirthday was exactly.
Sorry, eugene um, but he had abig birthday and he decided for
his big birthday it was 10 years.
He was gonna fly to la, he gottickets to the price is right
and he was going to go and tryto be a contestant one more time
on the price is right.
And he went and he his episodeairs tomorrow.
Does eugene get called on down?
Does eugene go on stage?
(35:43):
We don't know.
We'll find out tomorrow andwe'll talk about it next week.
I am going to try to get ourbuddy, eugene, on the podcast to
talk with him about it.
I'm sure it would be no problembecause he is the coolest um
and uh.
You know, again, charlie is amutual that we knew before we
met each other.
I remember, as a matter of fact, when we were kind of uh,
(36:06):
following each other onInstagram when we were in
Atlanta.
I remember you were like youknow Eugene?
I'm like, yeah, of course Iknow Eugene.
It was so funny.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Um, I remember that
as well.
Speaker 1 (36:16):
Yeah, so I'm, we're,
we're rooting for you, buddy.
Uh, retroactive.
Good luck Um we.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
I already have it set
up to record for tomorrow.
Thanks for the reminder.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Check your local
listings.
Cause prices right Does air atdifferent times in the morning
depending on what market.
In Miami, my Miami friends, itairs at 11.
On CBS here in our neck of thewoods, I believe, in Chicago, it
ends at 10, which, funny enough, 10 in Chicago is 11 am Eastern
, so it actually will be airingthe same time as it does here.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah, only California
then gets back.
They can reset them for the endof the mountain time, right?
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Something like that
yeah, and New York plays at 11.
Most markets he plays at 11.
I mean, prices are at plays at11 and let's make a deal plays
at 10.
Um, some markets, let's make adeal is in the afternoon for
some reason.
Um, uh, but yeah, I, I'm, I'mexcited to see our buddy uh,
hopefully do his thing.
It's cool.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
He taped this episode
back in December, so it's a
long time to wait, oh wow, yeahyeah, five months, you know we
were, we were like waiting forwe are family for three months,
yeah, think about the episodesthat ordered in air.
Some people waited weeks longerthis is true and we got also.
We had, at least starting innovember, we had video clips so
(37:41):
we could at least see snippetsof what the show is going to
look like um, uh.
So yeah, eugene retroactive.
Good luck from both charlie andI.
Buddy, um, we're excited towatch anything else you want to
talk about um, yeah, we have.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Uh, one other thing I
wanted to mention Cubs calling
up another big hitting prospect.
Um, unfortunately, Ian Hapson.
I have to go on the IL shortterm, and why?
But he's been out the last fewdays with them with a minor
oblique issue he took.
He took some swings in thecages yesterday and they said
(38:17):
that he was okay, that it wasn'tgoing to be too long.
So I'm guessing they're goingto backdate it the three days
he's already missed.
So he'll probably only miss aweek.
But because of that, Suzuki canplay into the outfield, which
opens up the DH spot.
So because of that, the Cubsare calling up one of their best
prospects, Moises Ballesteroswho is?
(38:37):
a catcher DH monster hitter.
So rumors are he's going to bein the lineup tomorrow, so I'm
kind of excited for that.
I don't know if he comes backquick, but he's been killing the
ball in AAA and really forcingthe Cubs hand.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
So Iowa is your AAA
team, correct?
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Wow.
And speaking of Iowa, one otherthing.
I don't know if you saw this, but the John Oliver from Sunday
or two ago, Of course you mademe watch that.
The Iowa Cubs have mentionedthat they've reached out for it,
so fingers crossed that they'rethe ones.
That'd be really cool.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
It's not often that.
I mean, it's often charliesends me stuff, but it's not
often that you send me somethingand say there's going to be a
pop quiz.
I was like, oh, I gotta watchthis.
Um, I better watch this and,and it was the best like I don't
know eight minutes of my life.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
It was so good
there's multiple references in
there hidden there are.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
Of course, you gotta
love the rumble ponies.
I mean, that's the mets doublea team.
Uh, binghamton rumble ponies.
Um, I think that's our onlyteam that really has a funny
name we have.
We have the brooklyn cyclones, which makes sense because the
roller coasters in coney islandis a cyclone and they're in
coney island.
That's the high a team and youknow, the low a team is the is
the port st lucie mets and ourtriple a team is the syracuse
(39:58):
Mets.
So not that exciting, right?
So yeah, and what is Iowa'scurrent name?
The?
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Iowa Cubs.
That was mentioned in hissegment.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
I saw that, yes, I
didn't put two and two together,
but all right, that's cool, they're in the running.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
That'd be cool.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
I mean, I could see
it this.
You guys have a great sense ofhumor, so I can kind of see him
having fun with that and uh,we'll see.
Yeah fingers crossed I mean itcan't be worse than what.
Was it the clam?
Speaker 2 (40:32):
yeah, they have.
Speaker 1 (40:33):
They've had some bad
some, some bad misses folks, you
know, there's a team a minorleague team somewhere I forget
the name of it that has like arow of toilet seats.
Yeah, there's a team, a minorleague team somewhere I forget
the name of it that has like arow of toilet seats.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Yeah, it's a great
segment if you want to check it
out from.
John Oliver's last week tonight.
Speaker 1 (40:49):
Yeah, all right,
buddy, that's what we got this
week.
I hope you have a good week,man.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
You too, and also
congrats on the Pete Alonzo walk
off RBI tonight, your guycoming through again.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Thank you, buddy,
thank you.
And also I want to mention too,I just won a $12,000 trip to
Disney World.
I'm going to Disney.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
World.
You won another contest.
No way they're going to have tolegally change your middle name
to contest winner at some point.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
So funny way.
They're gonna have to legallychange your middle name to
contest winner at some point.
So funny.
Um, all right, buddy.
Uh, now I can safely say thisweek go, cubs, go back.
Let's keep the winning goinglet's go, cubs and let's go,
mets, let's go.
This has been around the basesthe pop culture and sports
podcast with your host charlotteseymour and I'm tim sternberg
until next week.
Go, cubs, go, and let's go.
(41:41):
Mets, bye, everybody.
