Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Around the
Bases the pop culture and
sports podcast with your host,charlie.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Seymour.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
And I'm Tim Sternberg
.
Hit it, Nick.
We are back here on Around theBases, the pop culture and
(00:31):
sports podcast.
Charlie buddy, how are you?
I'm doing well, I'm doing well.
How are you doing?
Oh, dude, I'm sad, I'm reallysad.
I know you are too buddy.
I hate starting to show off ona sad note, but we must talk
about Rhino.
Ryan Sandberg passed awayyesterday.
Oof.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, I know that's a
tough one for Cub fans.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Dude, I know you are
especially affected.
I was an 80s baseball kid, so,growing up, the greats of Cal
Ripken Jr, ryan Sandberg, youknow, keith Hernandez, gary
Carter I mean I have to namesome Mets too, but I mean Greg
Maddox, I'll name Mad Dog, butyou know the greats of that era
(01:18):
and just, ah man, we've beentalking about Ryan too the last
couple of years, I think, uh, ona number of occasions.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
You specifically
right yeah, I mean I we luckily
got to go to like one of thepretty, probably one of the last
meet and greets he had with cubseason ticket holders, which
was really really cool.
I mean just you know him beingaround wrigley over the years
and the Cubs conventions and allthat.
I mean you get feel like you'vemet a guy you know 15, 20 times
(01:50):
.
You feel like you kind of knowhim and he's always just so nice
every single time and yeah, that one, this one's gonna
definitely uh, hurt Cub fans andit I did hear I think, starting
with tonight's game, they'regoing to be wearing a 23 patch
the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
I love that.
I love that.
I've seen the tribute.
I saw Ian Hatt posted a clip ofhim interviewing Ryan.
I saw Justin Turner posted atribute just recently.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Nego posted one as
well.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Yeah, I love that, I
love the love to legacy and I'm,
I like, I love that, I love thelove to legacy and, um, I'm
really dude.
I don't get emotional a lot, um, when celebrities pass away,
but I legitimately got sadyesterday when I saw the post
that he had passed.
I knew that their cancer hadreturned.
I didn't have any clue or ideathat it was as progressed as it
(02:44):
was.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, the last week
or two I think, people started
to really get skeptical becauseanytime someone was coming to
Wrigley to throw a first pitchor sing the stretch, a couple of
them wore Ryan Sandberg jerseys.
When the Cubs Red Sox were thenational game of the week on
that Saturday Night, Fox JonLester was there in a Sandberg
Jersey against Boston.
So like people were reallystarting to to think something
(03:12):
was wrong.
And then, barely a week later,so they must've known.
And yeah, it's, he was aroundthe team a lot this year too.
He went to spring training andhe's he's, you know, basically
like a team ambassador.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
So well, you know,
probably fans have another angel
in the sky, as they say, andsure your grandmother's having
really great conversations withhim right now as we speak.
You know, yeah, yeah yeah, it'stough yeah, yeah, um I, yeah,
my heart goes out to his familyand uh, fans, cubs, fans,
(03:50):
especially you, and um yeah,yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Hopefully they can
keep winning for him.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Hopefully, at what a
year of the Cubs are having for
Ryan Sandberg.
Um, I yeah, I just unbelievable.
Uh, I yeah, just unbelievable.
I think it's a good tribute, asit is right that this is a year
for you guys, that you'rehaving a year, and this is a
great tribute for him.
Another loss, too, for mepersonally is with Ozzy passing
(04:20):
away.
Ozzy Osbourne passed away too.
Huge fan of his growing up, Igrew up in the 80s as a
metalhead.
Um, really impacted me a lot.
Um, that was kind of my escapewas the music, the heavy metal
music and, uh, ozzy was really aparamount to it.
(04:41):
He had also parkinson's, likemy dad, who passed away in 2015.
So there's a lot of parallelsthere.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
So, yeah, another
tough loss I don't know if I've
told you this story before.
I think I may have, but do youremember when ozzy and jack had
that show where they basicallydid like?
It was basically like mike rose, dirty jobs, but it was the two
of them.
Do you remember this?
I do?
Okay, well, you can pull it upon YouTube later, but there's an
(05:10):
episode where they go Gooeyduck farming.
Do you know what that is?
I do not.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
It is.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
How do I describe
this for a PG audience?
They're basically just likeshells like clams, whatever, but
they look like oh, oh, yes, okay, so long story they look
like an appendage of a male.
You understand that.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
I know what a gooey
duck is.
Yes, okay.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So actually my
brother-in-law's family on his
wife's side.
So my sister-in-law Shina.
Her family has a gooey duckfarm and Ozzy and Jack did an
episode on their farm.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Oh my God.
So they got to hang out withhim, meet him.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
She just always raves
about him.
And so you can have a funyoutube episode later, but I
mean way past my time very it'slike uh that's like out of the
tim sternberg playbook ofplaying basketball with alonzo
morning going out to lunch withpaul abdul.
(06:21):
No problem, just a couple ofthings, just things.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Um, there is nothing
more iconic, you know, after um,
his music is the osborne showin the early 2000s.
I mean, you were a kid when Iwas out and um, shout out, you
know, anytime you see the uh,the cat or something was
bothering him and he would justscream and it just took me back
to my.
It normalized him, like my dad,my own dad, you know what I
(06:47):
mean.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Like it was just
crazy and you can't forget the
infamous stretch at wrigley.
I will never forget greatchicago.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
we can wrap it all
around in a circle all the time,
right here on a round basis.
That's what we're about.
That's something.
Speaking of the Cubs and I'mgoing to use a quote of yours
from a couple of podcasts agowinning a lot of games, the Mets
winning a lot of games Not bad.
Mets have been back and forthin first place, with the
(07:20):
Phillies on and off.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
But lately on.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Yeah, well, I'm a
Yankee fan right now just saying
, no, you're not.
Well, they're beating thePhillies.
I am.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Oh, I see what you're
saying.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
You are currently
rooting for the Yankees.
Currently rooting for theYankees.
Go Judge Yay.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
They did, they did
win the other day.
For you guys, which nice themats, the bats, had a seven game
win streak, which is very nice.
Yes, that's our plants, andgood ball again I guess so
charlie knows.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
So charlie knows that
I have been a little um removed
removed because Of my fear as aMets fan About jinxing the
season.
So anytime Charlie will text Meand say They've won another one
, I'm like Because I don't wantto say, oh yeah, we rock and
(08:20):
then all of a sudden we loselike 10 in a row.
You know what I mean and now Ijust put that into the universe.
Different Mets teams.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Different Mets teams.
Different ownership.
How many times have we had tohave this conversation?
It's a lot, and it's only beena couple seasons.
So you just got to think thisis the new Mets.
This is the new Mets era theCohen Mets, the Stearns.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Mets think this is
the new mets.
This is the new mets era.
The cohen mets okay.
The sterns mets, the alonzomets.
Well, the alonzo mets didn't dowell before, so I mean, what
about last year?
All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all
right, all right baby steps so,speaking of cubbies, I don't
know the placing.
Are they in second right now?
Is that what's going on?
Speaker 2 (09:07):
entering.
Yesterday they were tied forfirst, and then milwaukee won
the first game of the series, socurrently they're one back they
played a night.
They could be tied.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
They could be two
back we dislike the brewers
immensely on this podcast.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Sorry all the cubs,
brewers, mets and blue jays.
All four of them are within twogames of each other for best
record in baseball.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
That's how tight it
is.
Dude, let's rewind.
Okay, so we're rewinding a year.
Okay, I'm getting ready to goto Chicago.
Or actually, yeah, I'm gettingready to go to Chicago.
I just came back from Vegas.
We would have never imagined wewould be having this
conversation a year later.
Now, the Mets were on an uptick.
(09:48):
They did the London series andthey were kind of on an uptick,
but still, I would have neverimagined that you would have
Kyle Tucker and that we would behaving this conversation.
The Mets and the Cubs are in apennant race.
That's insane.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Mets, cubs, brewers,
dodgers, all jacking for home
field throughout.
I mean.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
What and that the
Braves are like how many games
back?
Like 13 games back, orsomething you keep?
Speaker 2 (10:15):
thinking the Braves
were going to turn a corner.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
They'd win a few and
then all of a sudden, they're
back at their lowest point Inever thought that you got to
keep that same energy, butpositive for the mets.
Well, because you said, oh,ronald lacuna jr is coming back,
strider's coming back.
I'm like, yay, uh, sorry, no,sorry, they'll be interesting.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
They could be trading
a few guys this week, so
they're so obnoxious that team,I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
I remember us being
at Truist or going to and from
Truist and I was wearing my fullmen's regalia, even though it
was a Cubs game.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
And they're like ooh,
ooh, You're kind of asking for
it a little bit in thatsituation, aren't you?
Maybe Maybe Maybe, Maybe Maybethat would be like me going to a
a brewers dodgers game in fullcub gear.
I don't know if I could do that.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I won't you would I
know you, you have more.
You have more confidence thanme now you would wear like you
would wear a subtle kind ofhomage shirt that maybe kind of
reference the cubs, but not noit'd probably be.
It'd probably be just genericbaseball or maybe an otani thing
, so that it's all generic.
Okay, yeah, probably somethinglike that.
(11:31):
All right, all right, fairenough.
Um, yeah, so we uh, I'm goingto this weekend, we'll, we'll be
at wrigley field togetherwatching the cubs destroy the
Orioles, so that'll be fun.
Yeah, hopefully, hopefully it isdry, oh I was going to say is
there something I don't know?
We're not going.
Hopefully it is dry, I know.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Baltimore is playing
a little better.
But hey, maybe they'll keeptrading away a few more guys
before the series, so that'd benice.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I mean I like the
Orioles Don't get me wrong,
we've had this discussion butwhen they're playing the Mets or
the Cubs, yeah, exactly.
And I will not be wearing anOrioles t-shirt.
I promise you that Erica'slooking off to the side getting
ready to get a t-shirt for mefor that.
So not happening, Do you?
Speaker 2 (12:20):
have an Orioles shirt
.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I'm sure I do.
I went to Camden Yards a acouple years ago.
No, no, no, no, you're good, she's like we're literally going
to get it.
No, no, oh, she's ready, oh,she's gonna.
No, don't you, we're notwearing an oriole shirt to
wrigley field.
There's no way that's happeningno, you wear cub shirts.
You've got a cup shirt we'regonna get you cup shirts.
We'll get you covered.
We'll get you, we got you.
(12:45):
I started trouble.
So yeah, Erica and I are headedto Chicago tomorrow to go to
the National.
Can't wait to see you guys.
Can't wait to see our buddyNicholas Pepin and hang out at
the game.
That's going to be fun.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Yeah, it should be
fun.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
That's our baseball
conversation.
Great season I can't wait fornow.
We're after the all star game,we're in the home stretch.
Now we're four days, three daysaway from the trade deadline um
like like two and two and ahalf hours yeah, wednesday,
right 5 pm.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Thursday I always.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
I don't know why this
is the second time I'm in
Chicago during the tradedeadline oh, that's funny, did
that happen last time too?
Yeah, because the national in21 was also around the trade
deadline um I was in the c2, thetrade deadline.
Um, I remember so in 21 therewas discussion.
I think it was like um, yeah, that was the hobby bias trade.
(13:45):
That was the hobby bias trade, that was keek crow armstrong,
yeah I remember that.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Oh god, oh, that's a
pretty good trade, pretty good
trade to you, yeah, oh I thought, that's what we were talking
about no, I'm self-centered, youremember, it's just all about
me.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Um, no, I I know pca.
What a year that dude is having.
Oh, my god, I have my non-pubsfriends texting me about how
they're fans of pca.
I'm like, thanks, they'rerubbing it in a little bit that
he, he, was immense in the minorleague system.
Um, he and vientos, by the way, ironically, ironically are
really, really good friends.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Yes, they are.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
There's been some
rumors about the Mets
potentially trading Vientos, although yesterday he hit the
Grand Slam in another home run.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, and, don't
worry, there probably wouldn't
be a reunion with him in PCA,cause I don't think he really
fits the current cup needs.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
So no, I don't think
the Cubs have current needs that
the Mets need, honestly, um thepitching is what we really do.
We really need pitching Um, as,as was evidenced last night
again we need pitching too.
Yeah, I mean, I think most.
Yeah, we'll see what happensanyway.
So we are one episode awaytonight from the season finale
(15:17):
of Destination X.
That show is wrapping up.
We're down to our final threeplayers on Destination X up.
We're down to our final threeplayers on destination x.
Um, those three players are, um, our buddy peter from, of
course, the bachelor franchiseand the traders did you want to
talk about the previouselimination?
Yes, before I tell you thatit's a final three, sure right,
(15:39):
exactly as now one to one is inum.
So there was um.
You see this challenge.
I don't know, bro.
So they go in the map room veryearly in the episode, right and
um, I forget exactly, but theyget a clue as to where they are
they each got one clue and thefour clues together would make
(16:02):
sense, but each one alonewouldn't, and it was up to them
whether or not they shared withpeople which is a very
interesting development inthat and and and and the way it
worked, and and and previous inthe previous episode, um, peter
and um, I forget the guy's name.
(16:22):
Oh my god, he no, not shane, shane, uh, they, no, not shane
either.
Um, the older guy, peter, andthe older guy get a rick thank
you, I could not think of rick'sname.
Uh, peter and rick get a clueat the end of, at the
elimination that shows a ship'sanchor.
So it's a nautical clue, and sothey have that little tiny
(16:43):
advantage.
And then they go into the nextepisode to the challenge that
you just mentioned, wherethey're basically going and
finding this chest with the cluein it and they have to kind of
put it together with the otherclues.
But they don't know the otherclues unless they work with the
other people and um and then.
So they're working that out.
But then they have to, early onin the episode, go to the map
(17:04):
room, which I was like reallywe're doing this already, and
the idea was they all had topick a destination, like they
always do, but they would meeton the pier and they would find
out first of all that they're inmonte carlo, right is that
right so they find out they'rein monte carlo and so they go on
a ship.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
They meet um, uh,
they meet really, really quickly
, before you get into that, before this happens.
The part that I wanted tomention was they are allowed to
or not allowed to share.
So pick rick and peter share.
Then biggie asks rick, what, what he gets, and would you want
to share?
Biggie tells him his clue andthen rick gives him false
(17:46):
information sharing it whichcomes into play after your next
part, so now continue that's avery important part, isn't it?
Speaker 1 (17:57):
um, so the idea of
this challenge now is they are
they all pick a place in the maproom, but now they're playing a
game on the roulette wheel andthere are different cards
depending on what they hit andwhat they call, and they can get
advantage of putting someonefurther away from where they put
(18:19):
the dot.
They could switch with somebodyelse, so they go through.
It's basically a shuffle gameof different places and where
they are on the map and anythingyou want to add to that.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
No, no, no, it was.
Yeah, that was pretty good.
It was a roulette wheel andthen they could choose whether
or not to play their own pieceor affect another player's piece
.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Yes, and so they
basically did this back and
forth and it ends up two roundsof it and ends up with the
person who I thought would beeliminated anyway eliminated,
and that is uh, shane waseliminated from the competition
um, now, now let's talk aboutwhy he was eliminated.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Go ahead.
So there was a clear moment inthe game where Shane could have
very easily been safe and Biggiewas the one to go home.
Instead, shane gambled on thefact that him and Biggie
together could maybe take outone of the other players.
(19:27):
So instead of just protectinghimself I think how Shane
thought it was he didn't have achance to win the game anyways
without Biggie because he didn'treally know, and that's why his
guess was so off and Biggie waskind of his guiding guiding,
you know, whatever you want toit.
So I think he felt he wasprobably unlikely to win without
(19:47):
Big E's help.
So he kind of made a move, justnot self-sacrifice, but
basically it was a coin toss atthat point.
What would happen versus beinga safe lock to the final three,
because he could have easilymoved Big E's 50 miles further
away and it was over, andinstead he moved him even with
(20:10):
his own piece, and then in theend he's the one that gets
eliminated.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
I don't understand it
, bro, like I listen.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
I.
That's.
The only sense I could make ofit was he felt he couldn't win
it anyways against Rick or Peterwithout Biggie's help.
But you need to go into it atthe winner mindset.
Yeah, I think you just playedit wrong.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Because I mean,
listen, if I'm up against the
clock, yeah, I might think I'mcooked on something, but I'm
going to go at it with all heartand soul anyway, because that's
what you do.
You go on this competition show, you go through all the
processes to get on the show,You're going to push yourself to
your ultimate limit.
I mean, that's, that's just mymentality of of that.
(20:53):
If I'm going on like survivor, for example, listen, I don't
care if my, my tummy is aching,I'm hungry, the, the, the, the
tarantulas, the spiders arebiting me, the snakes are
sipping and I'm doing whateverit takes to win that freaking
show, just because I just haveto like, within my physical you
know limitation of whatever thatis, um, but yeah, I don't know,
(21:18):
call me old school yeah, andthen after shane's eliminated
and they're celebrating wherethey are and he's showing them
everything he then goes aroundone at a time.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Hey, what was your
clue?
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Hey what was your
clue?
Speaker 2 (21:34):
And then it comes to
Rick who then obviously says
into the camera, in, like theconfessional.
Well, obviously now Biggie'sgoing to know, and he's going to
know, that he lied to him forthe first time.
Now Biggie's going to know, andhe's going to know that he lied
to him for the first time.
Now, my only question was didhe have to tell the truth?
Speaker 1 (21:55):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Could he have said
out loud then, after Jeffrey
Dean Morgan asked him what wasin yours, could he have just
repeated what he said to Biggieno-transcript.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Or he could have just
said I choose not to say which
is guilty anyway, but you'reright, he was in a pickle, he
was in a big time pickle.
Yeah, it was.
I wonder though, so you thinkthat's Ask a production question
?
Do you think that is like aprecursor to something happening
(22:31):
in the finale, where he doesn'ttrust him?
Speaker 2 (22:33):
because I think they
concentrated on that 100, yeah,
big yeah something's coming yeah, something's for sure is now
out for blood, so so maybebiggie and peter two.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
There's an
elimination beginning of the
episode.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Maybe Biggie comes to
Peter and says listen, no one's
going to be Rick, look at themovie, just tried to pull and
it's possible.
Peter then could, might have adouble alliance and then, no
matter what he goes, final two, whichever way he wants to go,
peter could be the swing.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
Good, good, good good
.
Could Peter be winning hissecond reality show in a row?
Speaker 2 (23:14):
and then go figure
what.
What do we say?
Oh, the first or second episode, kind of early in.
Peter's a good player.
You probably should get him outwhile you can.
And here he is.
Hello, now, maybe maybe thebest shot to go.
Final two.
I don't know how the episode isgoing to work, if they're just
going to have one winner out ofthree or if they're going to let
(23:34):
down halfway through.
It's only an hour long, sowe'll see.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
But I think he's in a
pretty good spot.
I don't mean to stir the pot,but what do you think Josh
Martinez thinks of this?
Speaker 2 (23:43):
That's funny.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
He was on so long ago
.
I don't even, I didn't evenremember he was on it he was so
non-consequential, um,apparently, uh, refusing to do
other shows because they don'tpay.
So who knows, you know, whatever, yeah funny, um, so,
yeah, exciting.
I, I, really, I really enjoydestination x.
(24:11):
I really.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Yeah, it definitely
grew on me, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
The last couple
especially were pretty good how
freaking awesome are thosebinoculars, the things that.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
That's crazy I love
you in the market for a pair.
I don't know what I would dowith them, maybe they'll help
you sleep.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Yeah, I could use
that.
Actually That'd be pretty good.
So we need to talk about thisshow too.
Big Brother Woo-wee Dude.
Interesting season so far.
I will say.
Interesting cast so far.
I will say I'm going to startwith with the with with my
(24:49):
soapbox.
You ready, yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Soapbox.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Can the older players
stop always going to the the,
the thing where they say I don'tknow, we'll connect to these
younger people.
And I can not connect to theseyounger people?
What the heck Stop.
Do not go on a reality show.
If I cannot connect to theseyounger people, what the heck
Stop.
Do not go on a reality show.
If you somehow cannot connectto 20-year-olds, dude Will come
on.
Dude.
(25:14):
I get so mad with that.
It's a trope that is used everyseason with the older
contestants and it gets me soangry.
Like hello, I could easily likewhat, and then last year we had
the older guy quit.
It's like I don't know dude,like what the heck?
Kenny and Will and what?
What is this cat?
What is it that?
Speaker 2 (25:34):
you should.
You should clip that and sendit to, like some of the big
brother casting people is whatyou should.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Hello, yeah, and put
my name like hello, hello.
What's it with the scene?
Speaker 2 (25:46):
and back to the
future, and then a highlight
reel below of all the all theother shows there you go.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Yeah, um dude, I mean
I don't know, come on already
with this.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
He did get up on his
soapbox and have his spiel, but
then the house voted 13, nothingto keep him yeah, because he's
like, not a threat.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
What is like?
He's not gonna win the game.
There's no way in heaven hewins the game.
I promise you that if I was tobet a be a betting man on
something will is not going towin the season.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
The big yeah, you're
right, I'm gonna agree with that
.
He is on the block again.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
He is and he's gonna.
I think eventually he'll playlike a middle kind of a vicky,
like in the middle of the seasontype of thing, maybe mason.
I don't think he'll even makeit to jury.
I think he's gonna be out inthe next couple, so would you
say that he's a floater floaters, grab a life vest.
All right, let's, let's.
Let's transition to her.
Um, rachel riley, um, clearlyone of charlie's favorite
(26:51):
players this season and foreverbig brother.
He loves rachel riley.
He tells me so much about howmuch he loves rachel riley
shaking his head no for ourlisteners.
He's shaking his head.
No, as as as firm as he can.
What?
What's wrong?
Wrong, rachel charlie oh, I wasjust disagreeing with your life
oh, oh, oh I've never said thatnever in a word, never ever no,
(27:18):
yeah, I don't, I don't like her, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
No, she's just so
full of herself.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
It kind of bothers me
but that's exactly why she's
been brought back.
That's exactly why she's, she's.
You're not the only one.
I will say and you know, andcharlotte is, this is her
experience on big brother free, just free, free.
Uh, does charlie's fandom?
Speaker 2 (27:41):
of that's true that's
true.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
That's why I mean, I
remember when her first season,
like she would go after reagan.
It was this contestant reaganand they would go back and forth
and I was like he's annoying,um, she's annoying, and I is
this like a?
Speaker 2 (27:56):
is this like a
character she's playing almost
because, as much as I didn'treally care for her on traders,
I don't think it was that bad.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
It wasn't on.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
Strader's long enough
.
That could be, and maybe it'sall other bigger personalities
and people versus just random,so that could be it too.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
This is her,
completely, who she is.
She ended up so in the firstseason she was on, she met her
husband now husband Brandon, andthey were like an alliance and,
um, she, it's pretty much herpersonality, I mean I, and she's
right now outside of bigbrother.
She's very big in the castingworld.
Right now she's casting shows.
That's what she does, so that'skind of her whole thing and she
(28:40):
goes on all the like the bigbrother cruises and whatnot, and
yeah, I mean I think part of itis a character, for sure, I
think think you know, a lot ofpeople go on the shows and they
go.
Well, I'm going to make good TVand this is how I'm going to
make good TV.
I'm going to be bigger and Imean I honestly I would probably
go the same vein a little bit,um, where you kind of that's how
(29:00):
you get known and that's howyou know they know you is.
You are that bigger than lifeperson, although I, I, I I think
it misses um, a little bit ofthat sincerity, um, so I
wouldn't be like that.
I would be more sincere.
I can't be fake.
You know there's no way to befake, but I think the sincere
part of me would kind of lend tothat character, because that's
(29:22):
who I am.
I'm not afraid to kind of sayhow I feel and not, I don't
filter shit.
So you know that kind of pieceworks.
Um, I think that's kind of whatgoes into her a little bit, and
and she does rough people thewrong way.
Uh, rough people the wrong way.
Um, she's definitely polarizing, for sure.
Um, I don't think she'll lastlong on this particular season.
(29:44):
Um, I don't know how you feel.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
I didn't.
I don't think she'll last longon this particular season.
Um, I don't know how you feel Ididn't.
I don't think so either.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Except here we go
another week and she's not up.
That's the thing too.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
It's like teflon dawn
people are going to put him up
everyone's going to keepthinking well, as long as she's
there, she's a bigger targetthan me speaking of big targets.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
What is jimmy's deal?
What is jimmy's deal, though?
Dude?
I feel like he's playing up forthe camera like this is all an
act, like it's like he likeliterally the textbook of what I
should do on tv to get noticed.
Oh, boom, boom, boom.
I feel like he's following ascript and it's not sincere at
all I will say that he probablyhad to.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Like he, he probably
set some kind of record right?
Is he the first person ever toput up three people and not one
of them is even voted on at theend?
Can we talk about that?
Speaker 1 (30:36):
That's pretty
epically horrific.
Hoh and then to kind of pretendlike it didn't go bad is kind
of laughable but I mean who?
Who ended up?
You see it was so.
Oh they, they, uh the BBaccompl, who ended up, you see
it was so.
Oh they they uh the bb.
Uh, accomplice ended up goinghome.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
I mean, okay, um I
don't think it was a very.
I don't even know that the bbaccomplice went no no one said a
word.
She only told one person andshe has not revealed that secret
yet.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
No, and I don't think
you know of I don't think
production is going to tell them, because production wants them
to kind of think that it'ssomebody in the house.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
And also already
we're into the third week.
Do they even care about thatanymore?
It seems like they don't evencare about things that happen
week one anymore.
There's always something newgoing on.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Did the mystery twist
go out the window?
Where was it last week?
I didn't really kind of get it,I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
Wait wait, what do
you mean?
Speaker 1 (31:31):
you know it's a whole
mystery season, so like to have
a mystery theme.
Where?
Where was the mystery?
Speaker 2 (31:35):
I mean last week I
think the last ones was was the
mystery person playing in thehoh, which was casey casey, yes
yes, the comp piece.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Who won it for?
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Keanu took him down.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
Again, keanu saves
himself from possible eviction.
He's not long for the game.
He's not going to last, unlesshe wins every single competition
there is.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
And then Kelly won
the thing again.
Oh, and then Adrian also wonsomething else.
Kelly used her power and wassuccessful, which was pretty
easy.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
no-transcript bro
speaking of adrian, what who?
What he dominated, that comp hedominated the comp, but his
personality is that of a fleet, honestly let's talk about that.
He dominated against amy andand will right can I, can I
(32:35):
mimic his, his, I'm gonna mimicit, I'm gonna be a little, I'm
gonna to mimic his diarroom andI'm going to win, I'm going to
win this competition.
They don't know what's coming.
They don't know, almost likehe's.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
Was he wrong?
No, but.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
Dude.
But I'm saying I'm like what isgoing on right now?
He's trying too hard.
It almost it feels like I don'tknow, like I don't know.
Oh man, I love you Adrian, he'sprobably going to win the game.
Say that at this point.
But yeah, I love you Adrian.
(33:21):
So we go into another week.
I probably will miss this weekaltogether, being in Chicago and
not really kind of keeping up,probably watching on Paramount.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
But we'll see right
now we could watch it Sunday
after the game yeah, we couldwatch it at your place.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
Absolutely, let me
see here.
Hold on one second.
I'm going to do a little sneakinto the future.
Uh, uh, no, I.
Oh, that's what happens.
Okay, all right, oh, you'realready looking.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
You know now.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
You know what
happened I didn't know until now
, but okay oh no, you just hadto look yay, I had to look.
I didn't look until just now,so now I'm I'm aware.
Okay, charlie, and I have thisthing too, folks, where you know
(34:13):
he doesn't like, he like thinksit's stupid that I look ahead
and I don't think it's stupid.
Speaker 2 (34:17):
I just, yes, you do.
I mean I've, I don't.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
We're not really live
feed watchers I put it on once
to see kind of to seeinteresting you know, and it was
spoiled and it was, which iskind of my whole thought is,
like what's the point of it?
Speaker 2 (34:32):
I get that it's live
and everything's happening, but,
like for me, I'd rather justwatch it in the episodes, but
that's me yeah, I think a lot ofso to in the defense of the
life feed watchers.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
A lot of it is they
don't want the filtered, edited
version from the network.
They like to see things as theygo and I kind of can you
imagine survivor unedited?
That would be crazy.
Um, uh, live from the islandthat would be an interesting
season to do.
If they could do that, it wouldbe the live stream Survivor.
(35:07):
That would be interesting.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
And then each week
the Tribal Council is live.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
That would be
interesting, that would be.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
It's one of the
things I haven't Some ideas.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
I haven't done a live
season of Survivor, but that
would also mean the season wouldbe four months long.
I't think they'll go for thatyeah yeah, think about the
season, right, you know, withoutit being edited, but um, uh, so
or they just don't edit it likethe normal season and it's
still 28 days for 26 this istrue, they would, that's all it
would just be a jam-packed you'dwatch the whole thing in four
(35:41):
weeks.
We only have two shows to talkabout.
That's it right now.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
I mean, there's also
1% Club.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Oh yeah, you want to
talk about it.
Speaker 2 (35:54):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (35:54):
What did you think of
it?
Speaker 2 (35:56):
There were some
interesting moments this week.
Speaker 1 (35:59):
Go ahead.
I know what you're going to sayGo ahead.
Keep it appropriate, keep itappropriate.
Keep it appropriate.
Which one I mean there were.
It was on fox and it aired, solike it did.
So it's, it technically goeswithin the realm of this podcast
.
So, uh, there was an answerchoice.
That was interesting, yeah itwas?
Speaker 2 (36:20):
uh, there was
basically an M you had to put a
letter into, like the emptysymbol.
There were two sets.
There was basically a picturelike a you're playing like a
slot machine with the.
You know the cherries come down, three of them the middle one
was was empty and blank, and youhad to pick a letter to fill in
(36:41):
with the objects on the outside, to make a real-life word.
Are you following?
Yes, so, for example, thecorrect answer for this
particular one, the furthestright picture, was a picture of
a wooden log, then the middlewas blank, and then there was a
picture of a wooden log, thenthe middle was blank, and then
(37:02):
there was a picture of a housecat on the far left.
So cat and log, which thecorrect answer would be the
letter, a catalog, catalog.
And this person who decided tointerpret the pictures
differently, I guess is the wayto say it For some reason
(37:23):
guessed pussy bush.
But there wasn't really aletter.
They didn't use a letter inbetween, nor was it, it was a
log clearly on the end theirmind was clearly somewhere else.
It was, it was.
It was a pretty bad answer andJoel had some fun with it for
multiple questions.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Gotta love Joel.
Joel McHale is so much betterthan that.
How knows Walt?
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Did you see he also.
The other thing I had mentionedin that was he took a shot at.
Not a shot, it was a joke buthe made a joke about a different
show on Fox that's going onseasons like four and five.
I don't know if you heard it,but when they came back from
break he said yeah, exactly, didyou hear his joke?
(38:11):
No, can you say it.
When they came back from breakit's a stupid dad joke, but I
laughed.
It was.
When they came back from breakhe said and I'm Joel McHale here
with the host of the 1% Cluband here we have a floor and a
ceiling.
Take that, rob.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
I thought it was
pretty funny.
Yeah, the floor is coming backwith a bunch of reality stars
apparently on their season, and99 to Beat is coming.
You know who's going to be on99 to Beat coming?
You know who's gonna be on 99beat sandra from survivor, oh,
really, yes, uh.
And and also from big brother,um, the tommy the broadway kid,
(38:53):
uh, for big brother.
I think that's before your timetoo, but he's gonna be on the
show.
And uh, yeah, 99 to beat.
Apparently there's like it'slike minute to win it.
But on fox, weirdly, um, um,the folks at the casting
collective who cast we arefamily in the floor are involved
in that.
So, yeah, should be aninteresting show.
(39:13):
Um, let's see what else we got.
That's basically it right now, right, oh, wait, no hold on,
hold on.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
Oh, we got, we got to
bring up one at least one other
pop culture topic here.
Okay, all right, I just want tomark the.
Uh, I just want to point outthe calendar, time and date.
We're so.
We're july 2025.
Okay, ladies and gentlemen, timsternberg just, for the first
time, watched happy gilmore theoriginal you had to go there
(39:47):
because I wanted to talk aboutthe second one.
So it's important to note that Ihave seen the original probably
over a hundred times easily, pretty safely, I want to say and
pretty safely I want to say,and the quote nicholas pep, and
I can't believe you've neverwatched that and I I I think I
(40:08):
had dylan at the time, so I waslike 10 or 15 minutes late to
see the text and I was like youhaven't seen happy gilmore, what
?
Go go watch the first one.
It was available on netflix forlike the first six days before
it switches over.
And he did.
He watched the first one beforewatching the second one.
So first, before we jump intothe new one, because you've only
(40:30):
seen the first one one time.
So you and back to back, so youmight not have noticed every
single thousand easter egg assomeone who's seen it a billion
times, but start with the firstone as a, as a first watch,
which is incredible to say, likehow great, it came out in 1996,
right exactly you're seeing amid-90s movie for the first time
(40:53):
, so how great was it toexperience that for the first
time.
It was great, wasn't it?
Speaker 1 (40:58):
such a freaking funny
.
It's classic.
It is such a funny movie.
There's so many things in itLike oh, ben Stellar at his
prime playing the, the boss ofthe nursing home that he sends
his grandmother to the orderlyand you know that scene where he
the, and this goes back towe'll reference this in two, but
(41:19):
the scene where he's fixing herair conditioner and it goes out
the window and it's the oldlady.
And so in two, real quick.
There's a scene where he's atthe cemetery and there's a
tombstone with the lady with theair conditioning on top of her
the entire scene was to everycharacter that had passed, which
I thought was pretty cool.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
And then even that
scene alone was for nostalgia
for the first one, because myfavorite part of that whole
scene was the bob barker how itperfectly shoots his hand,
coming up to grab him by theneck, just like he does in the
first one, and you see the bobbarker gravestone right
underneath.
That was just so well done soamazing.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
The price is wrong
bitch.
I've seen that clip so as agame show fan and a Bob Barker,
now you've had enough.
I've seen that clip so manytimes out of context, so to see
it finally in context I was like, oh I get it.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
I get why yeah.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
I honestly don't know
, often don't think that sequels
to movies that air up, juststream only, are necessarily
great.
Absolutely too, is amazing.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
I was pleasantly
surprised.
I went in with temperedexpectations for the same
reasons and I thought they did apretty decent job.
It's great.
As much as we all didn't like.
Um, there's a.
I don't want to spoil too much, since it is just the first week
it's been out, but there's amoment early in the movie that I
(42:51):
think was you basically have toget over one hurdle in the
movie, and that's something thathappens early in it but if you
think about it, from a step back.
That probably needs to happenfor the story to make sense.
It does.
So when you take that for whatit is, I do think they did a
pretty good job.
They tied in so many Eastereggs from the first one, which I
(43:14):
always love, they brought in somany.
There were so many cameos.
There were so many professionalgolf golfers are in it.
How about oh yes, one othercameo that I don't know if
everybody caught, but I was allover it and rosie's like no way.
And then we looked it up andthen you see it the more you
look at it.
But the original movie hasshooter mcgavin's, his, his, his
(43:40):
, we'll say friend, but it'smore of his business colleague,
who he calls to distract happygilmore and just say jackass in
his back shot.
Oh yeah, to go around throughthe did you notice who played
his son in number two?
No see, it goes over unless youlook.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Oh, that was played
by eminem oh my god, slim shady,
slim shady.
Oh my god, I now need tore-watch it.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
You need to re-look
at it again and then now,
knowing it, you can see it.
But they did such a good jobbecause they gave him dark hair.
They put the hat on I was likeI'm telling you and then it
makes more sense when you thinkabout it then.
Then when they there's anothermoment where he gets flipped
into the water and he's having abrawl with another thing that
happens in the first HappyGilmore, which is alligators.
Speaker 1 (44:31):
And at one point he
says Detroit what?
Speaker 2 (44:33):
As he's fighting them
, he says Detroit, what?
And that's his M&M, yeah.
Yeah, that's so reference rightTo a mile I have to watch
definitely have to watch numberone a couple more times because
that's a movie where if you knowthere's not a sporting event
that I want to watch, that's onand we're not like watching
something and we're just I'mjust flipping through the
(44:54):
channels for something.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
If having the wars on
I'm almost always stopping and
putting it on.
Yeah, that's how I am.
With Back to the Future, I willsay you know, for a reboot
movie, a sequel, on a streamingplatform, it's like very
reminiscent of all their AdamSandler movies, like it's kind
(45:17):
of back to where he was in hisprime.
You know, he hasn't made thegreatest movies in the last
couple of years.
I mean they've been okay, butthat is prime Adam Sandler.
You know what I'm saying?
No, that is his.
That's him and his daughtersare in the movie with him.
Of course, again, one daughterplays his actual daughter in the
(45:37):
movie.
Another plays somebody else whosays, oh, you look like my
daughter and it's his daughter.
Speaker 2 (45:50):
There's all sorts of
like cameos there too.
Yeah, it's, it's, it's.
I think they did overall a lotof good cameos that.
If you had another one that I'msure you obviously noticed.
But bad bunny becomes his newcaddy and then bad bunny's
cousin is played by marcellohernandez from snl.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Yes, I love that.
I love marcello.
Marcello is a breakout star ofsnl last couple of seasons.
Speaker 2 (46:09):
I mean he's so yeah,
he's, he's funny he's from miami
too.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
He's from, uh, he did
so.
He did only in date, which islike these video clips in miami,
where the weirdest stuff thathappens in miami and marcelo
hernandez was like the person inthat.
I mean it's so, so good, um.
But yeah, I appreciate you kindof kind of poking the bear a
(46:33):
little bit with me with sayingyou haven't watched happy
gilmore because I am so gratefulthat I did.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
I'm so grateful there
were probably a few other
references in there.
That like people make in likereal life, that you are like oh
wow, that's from heavy gilmore.
Much like the the context ofthe fight with bob barker.
Yeah, like the like the 364more days of hockey tryouts got
to toughen up.
Have you ever heard anyone ofthat one we've used before?
Speaker 1 (46:59):
oh my god, they bring
that back with the real golfers
.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
He takes them there
to toughen up as a huge breaking
bad fan.
Chubb's son is played by huelfrom breaking bad.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
Yes, yes uh went off
the nail in the head but yeah,
yes and the.
Speaker 2 (47:20):
Do you know who
played his son in the second?
No, that was boban, the sevenfoot six nba player.
That's boban, yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
And then travis
kelsey was the waiter travis
kelsey was pretty good, I mustadmit.
You know I don't want to admitthat, but it was pretty good.
It's pretty pretty good.
Um, funny stuff.
You know I I, you know want toadmit that, but it was pretty
good.
It's pretty pretty good Funnystuff.
You know, just to have a goodmovie to laugh to is much needed
.
All right, folks.
(47:50):
That is it for this week.
We will be back probably in aweek or two.
Remember, we are differentschedule now with everything
going on, but we will be back asusual.
Hope you stay tuned and hopeyou stay with us as we go down
this journey.
And I appreciate you, charlie.
Speaker 2 (48:10):
Yeah, you too.
It was a good one.
And now, coming forward herethe next few days, we could have
some wild trades going on,hopefully, hopefully, both our
teams make a couple moves.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
Mets already have
made one.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
They hadn't made one
when we did this last time.
Right, that was in the lastweek or so.
No, so yeah, hopefully we havesome trades to talk about and
another good week of ball byboth of our teams.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Yeah, well, we're
going to a great game on Sunday
and we'll have, hopefully, a lotto talk about.
Definitely, this has beenAround the Bases the Pop Culture
and Sports Podcast with yourhost.
Charlie Seymour and I'm TimSternberg.
Until next week.
Go Cubs, go Bye everybody.
Thank you.
