Charlie and Tim return with another rapid-fire episode of "Around the Bases," reflecting on their impressive milestone of nearly 50 episodes recorded since launching in January 2024. What began as a passion project has evolved into not just compelling content, but a meaningful way for the hosts to stay connected through their shared love of sports and pop culture.

The duo dives deep into the current Big Brother season, championing underdogs Keanu and Kelly who continue to survive despite being constantly targeted. They dissect the fascinating psychology behind contestant Vince, whose emotional breakdowns after his own strategic moves have become a recurring theme in the house. "If you're gonna make bold moves, fine, make your bold moves, but stick to them," Tim argues, highlighting the disconnect between Vince's gameplay and his inability to accept consequences. The hosts meticulously analyze Keanu's Head of Household victory, nomination strategies, and the complex power dynamics that have defined this season, offering insights that casual viewers might miss.

Beyond reality TV, Tim enthusiastically recommends Survivor Australia vs. The World, featuring American favorites like Tony, Parvati, and Cirie competing against international players. The conversation shifts to baseball's playoff race, where both hosts' teams—the Mets and Cubs—Charlie shares that both teams are making serious wildcard pushes as September baseball heats up. They break down current standings, potential matchups, and the mathematical possibilities still in play for both teams.

As NFL season approaches, the hosts preview the highly anticipated Bills-Ravens matchup featuring star quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, while lamenting changes to NFL RedZone's formerly commercial-free format. The episode closes with Tim's proud showcase of his Amazing Spider-Man #300 comic—featuring the first appearance of Venom—and some lighthearted banter about upcoming movies and family-friendly cinema options. Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Around the Bases, the pop culture and
sports podcast, with your host, charlie Seymour, and I'm Tim
Sternberg.
Hit it, nick.
We are back here.

(00:31):
We are, charlie.
We're back so quickly.
What happened?
What's going on?
I know, right, we just had torecord another episode because
there's so much to talk aboutand we're going to get started.
How are you doing, buddy?
I'm doing well.
How are you doing?
I'm doing well.
How are you doing?
I'm doing?
Great, man, I can't complain,it's we're.
We're another episode in for around of bases.
I, I must say we started thispodcast in january of 24, which

(00:56):
is last year, and I think we'regetting close to 50 episodes
already between the two seasonsof this podcast, which, which is
crazy, wow, that is crazy.
I wouldn't have guessed thatmany but yeah, I know.
But you know it's a great thingabout for me.
You know it's great that werecord this awesome podcast, but
it's nice to see you when we doit and it's it's.

(01:18):
It's our way to kind of I mean,we, we text each other every
day, but it's our way to kind ofcatch up and it's kind of cool
to do that.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
So yeah, that's a win win.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Dude.
So, big brother, are youwatching the show man?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Of course you know.
You know we're watching dumbquestion.
Pretty, pretty live.
The last couple of times too, because it's I've had some
fantasy football drafts going on.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
So I've had to make sure we finished Big Brother
before the draft was started, and I'm sure you are.
We're going to talk aboutfootball in a little bit, folks,
if football season's starting.
I'm sure that you were like Igot to get to Big Brother
because, listen, this is reallyworthy television to watch this
season.
It's unbelievable.
Like I'm enjoying it.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yeah, it's been an enjoyable season, don't know I.
I think we've we've mentionedthis before, but not sure if, uh
, all the players on this seasonare really strategizing the
best way they could be.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Let's put it that way well, to to that point, charlie
, let me ask you it almost feelslike they think they're in some
kind of retreat and they're ontv and they're not really
playing a game.
I don't know, do you kind ofget that?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I mean, I'm seeing things online that, like
multiple of them, didn't evenrealize that they were on the
live feeds all the time, likehow do you not know that?

Speaker 1 (02:41):
dude, this show has been on for 25 years.
It's been on for 25 years, Ibelieve they're.
They're that ignorant I meanwhen big brother premiered.
Big brother premiered before Iwas even on.
Who wants to be a millionaire, which anniversary is coming up,
by the way, in a couple weeks.
That I mean, that's crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Like a week from today, almost right, or no?
Yeah, because it aired two daysbefore september 9th so yeah,
five days away.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Well, as we record, but it's September 4th as we
record this episode, which youmight get later today or
tomorrow, but the 5th, but yeah, but anyway.
So back to Big Brother.
Sorry, I digress because it'salways about me, I'm sorry, dude
.
There are players, though, andthis is why this is what I want
to kind of touch on.
There are players, though.

(03:27):
They're making this seasonmeaty good, and I think that
we're kind of rooting for thesame ones, if I'm not mistaken
yeah, I think so too.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
We're kind of rooting for the people who have been
ostracized and everybody'sganged up on them the most which
I you know, listen you.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
You ostracize somebody.
I'm gonna root for them.
So you want to make someonepopular in america's player,
which I have a feeling I knowwho that's going to be, but so
we're rooting for obviously I.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
I am rooting for you're talking about the vote
for the money on the side at theend of that, yeah, at the end
of the at the end.
Who is your speculation?

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Keanu, keanu Okay.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I hope I would lie.
That's who my votes are goingto go for.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
So either Kelly or Keanu.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
My only concern is that, like Rachel has such like
a high following that peoplewill just mass vote for her.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
I think the the if she, I mean the double, I mean
the positive of her winning thegame is that people might be
privy to vote somewhere elseinstead of her.
I know Taylor won both, butit's possible that you know what
I mean.
Like they could kind of sway.
And Taylor season you rememberTaylor season.

(04:39):
She was definitely the underdogthat a lot of us were rooting
for because she was ostracizedin the house.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah, there were multiple weeks where it looked
bad for her and she pulled itout yep, and so I became a huge
fan of hers in her season.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
But, yeah, so kelly kianu, those are the people I'm
rooting for right now in thegame um, who else is left?
Morgan morgan is a gamer, morgan's a good player.
I must say, um, yeah, yeah, Ishe's no part of the team kind
of doing the ostracizing alittle bit, I think.

(05:13):
Um, uh, vince is the head, vince and mickey are the head
ostracizers.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
I'll say um, yeah, vince is kind of tiresome yeah,
listen.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
So listen about him real quick before we recap the
week.
If you're gonna make bold moves, fine, make your bold moves,
but stick to them, like so?
If I'm gonna play the gameright, I'm you gotta own your
moves, dude, like you.
So you did it okay.
So the next week, if you'renominated for by the hat of

(05:45):
household, just take it.
Don't like break down.
Boohoo.
What did I do to my game?
You made the move am I wrong.
No dude, what the heck yeah,he's.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
He's getting kind of annoying.
If we're being honest, the I'mhonestly, I think the thing we
took away the most from the lastcouple episodes were liking
Keanu even more for being likelisten, dude, you've burned me
so many times.
I want to trust you, but thisis what's going to happen now
because of what you have done, and finally he like sat him down

(06:19):
and talked to him.
He's like what, like, what doyou want me to do?

Speaker 1 (06:21):
like Keanu has every right to be pissed, honestly,
100% now did I think Keanu earlyon in the game misspoke?
Yeah, I mean, I don't think heshould have said to everybody
I'm targeting you, you, you, yeah, but he was pissed they
were all going after him and hewas 100% they were yelling at
him like he got.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
He did get wrapped up in the in the moment of that
with the emotions and everything, but I I mean at that point
everyone was still out to gethim.
So he needed he basicallyneeded to show some fire and
look where he is now.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
I'm not complaining.
Listen, if I was in his similarposition, if I was on that show
, I would have done almost theexact same thing.
And, who knows, emotional.
I might have said I'm targetingyou, you, you and you.
You don't know in a momentwhat's going to happen.
So I and we talked about thistoo before I'm not normally
rooting for this type becausehe's strong, he's like the

(07:14):
physical type, because I'm notthat you know.
But he has earned so muchrespect for me, like I love the
way he's freaking play and youknow what.
He shows humility, he showsgrace, which is amazing, because
just with him and rachel andyes, 100.
He should have targeted herlast week, without a doubt, so
she can like not get all upsetabout that yeah, that's where I

(07:38):
wanted to follow up with, hypothetically speaking, since
spoiler alert, Rachel's not onthe block.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
If she wins HOH next week, does she hold true or does
she put Keanu up?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I think she holds true.
I think it's not in her benefitto put him up.
I think he's a number for herand, honestly, there are bigger
targets in the house that aregoing to remain after this week
and, honestly, there are biggertargets in the house that are
going to remain after this week.
Listen, if Vince wins, we'rekind of jumping ahead a little
bit, but if Vince winsBlockbuster, he's the biggest
target and, in either way, a bigtarget is going to remain when

(08:16):
we talk about who's on the block.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah, yeah, basically , as Rachel says at some point
in the episode, I'm pretty sureI put up all these people myself
when it was my hoh, yeah, Imean, and love her or hate her.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
She knows how to play the game.
I love that about her.
I mean she, yeah, she, shedoesn't like, she, she's showing
about playing the game.
Um, I, I will say this.
Um, you know I.
All right, we'll go back torecap first and then I'll kind
of touch on OK, well, we'll getit.
So the how to householdcompetition is what's the memory

(08:57):
?

Speaker 2 (08:57):
comp?

Speaker 1 (08:58):
All right, let's talk about the memory comp.
The memory comp is interestingand it's funny that I forgot
about the memory comp.
But apparently Keanu memory isnot a problem for him.
He won the comp.
What do you think about that?

Speaker 2 (09:12):
he did and it was funny because who was it?
Like I want to say it was willwill, I believe went out second
and was making this big thingabout all right, finally, it's a
memory account.
I can't wait.
Is that?

Speaker 1 (09:27):
who was I that I don't remember, and then they
had like, then they had aconfessional with him in the in
the diary room.
He's like.
Oh, I guess memories up yeah um, yeah, I mean, listen, this is
for me and I think for you too.
Again, I don't speak for you.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
I think Will went out first.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
And I think Rachel went out second.
Yes, and she was like you know, she was like I can't believe.
And so basically this is aclassic big.
But let me explain the compreal quick.
It's a classic big brother compwhere they show everyone these
videos on a memory wall.
This has been done before andyou have to kind of remember
things about the videosbasically each moment was a gif

(10:07):
a gif, yes, which is hilarious, because if you're in the house
for however long they've been, this is really their first
glimpse at what they look likeon tv.
So it's, it's, it's amusing, um, and so, yeah, will went out,
rachel went out, and, uh, thiswas the best case scenario, I
think, for us as fans of Keanuis for him to win ahead of

(10:28):
household Now.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
I think now is a very important time because you want
to kind of shift the numbersFrom the other side out.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yes, exactly, you want to shift the number, so I'm
hoping, by the way, just forspeaking for next week, I'm
hoping that Kelly pulls it off, because that would be definitely
an ideal situation.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yes, because Keanu can't play.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Exactly, or Lauren, I think Lauren, especially if
Vince is left, but yeah, soanyway, to recap, keanu wins
head of household, but yeah, soanyway, to recap, keanu Wins had
a household.
He goes through back and forthwith Rachel about I'm not going
to nominate you and Rachel it'sa bunch of confessionals about.
Well, I'm going to trust himfor this week only and you know,

(11:15):
I still don't forget what hedid to me last week and,
honestly, he did the right moveby trying to target her last
week Because Catherine was anumber for him, not Rachel
really confident number.
And so she goes through themotions with him and so he
starts interviewing people about, you know, as they do talking

(11:35):
to people about and had ahousehold, about who he's going
to put up, and he's very clear, right, the entire time.
He's very clear, like Vince,I'm going to put you on the
block.
I'm being as transparent as Ican be.
He said something along thoselines and you have to respect
that, like I would do that too.
And so vince, of course, inclassic vince style, starts I

(11:56):
can't believe I messed up mygame, dude again, like back to
my point, allowing a down herethat vince impression one more
time okay, oh, we're gonna dothis.
That was pretty good that's notmy game, that's not my game
that's not my game.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Um come on man come on, man, we dub this.
This house is very tired ofseeing vince cry.
I saw pretty funny.
Uh, I I muted that one we'vetalked about.
There's this one Twitteraccount that basically updates
the live feeds in real time andI kept seeing spoilers so I
muted that account and eversince I have not seen any big

(12:35):
spoilers like HOH and stuff likethat.
I don't mind some of the otherlike in the house stuff that
comes out, but why I bring thisup is I can't filter it I saw
this tweet that said, yeah, Iturned on the live feeds again,
and then vince was crying again,so I turned it off.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
I feel like that's how I would act, because I'm
sick and tired of seeing it comeon vince I.
I just, I don't know if this isthe way you kind of want to be
portrayed to America.
I mean, I, you're not comingand I'm talking.
You're like I'm talking toVince.
You're not coming across, bro,as like this master player.

(13:13):
When you make a, a bull movewhich he has made, and then you
decide to cry about it Like what?
Own it Like, just own it, bethe player.
Own it what it's, own it like, just own it, be the player.
Own it like what.
So if you go home, you've beenon big brother, just play the
game, let the game go, dude.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
What are you doing?
Yeah, he, he needs to.
He needs to take a step backand think about it and maybe
change going forward if he'sable to stay alive but, bro,
he's not, you know.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
Honestly, I think he's in this bubble where he
doesn't understand how it'scoming across and perceived, and
he's just not because hisfellow houseguest, really I mean
I'm only.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
I mean morgan herself has proclaimed that she hasn't
won anything, which it's stillearly.
But if it's him against her, against mickey, right.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
So yeah, power of veto is still up for grabs as
far as this recording goes, eventhough I know who won but yeah
and we'll keep it that way, thatit's.
I will not spoil it for you.
I will not spoil it, um, butyeah, so she hasn't won yet.
Uh, people haven't.
I mean so right now on theMorgan, mickey and Vince and Vin

(14:24):
.
Yeah, so I almost let it split.
All right, never mind.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yeah don't, I won't do that.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
I won't do it.
We'll kill it there.
All right, Right.
So anyway, more aboutnon-spoilers for the show.
So if Vince, Morgan and Mickeyare still on, if one of them are
on the block.
So here's the scenarios.
I kind of see Vito outstanding.
If the three of them are in theblockbuster, let's say Keanu

(14:55):
wins, Power Vito, and the nomsdon't change.
If the three of them are in theblockbuster and Vince wins, I
see Mickey going home.
What do you think?
If Vince wins, I see Mickeygoing home.
What do you think?

Speaker 2 (15:08):
If Vince wins.
So that would be.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Mickey against Morgan .

Speaker 2 (15:13):
I do think so.
Even though Keanu wants Morgan,I do think that Morgan would
probably have the votes there.
I think Mickey's rubbed a lotof people the wrong way.
I think the real question iswhat happens if Mickey wins it.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
So I think Vince goes in either scenario If Mickey
wins or Morgan wins.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
You think Vince has to win Blockbuster to be safe.
You think.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
A hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
Yeah, okay, even though Keanu is kind of pushing
for Vince to stay, yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Yeah, yeah, because look how he pissed off Lauren.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
Like the one that I think maybe he has a chance is
if Morgan won, because thenMorgan's a vote.
I think she goes with Vince, mickey wouldn't, so there's one
extra vote, and then I think alot of people generally wanted
Mickey out.
Last week I could see Racheland her posse taking out Mickey
instead.
Yeah, it all depends, but Ithink that's a better shot than

(16:14):
if it's the other way.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
That's a good point.
It all depends on, if she doeswin, who the replacement nominee
would be, because that kind ofcan mix it up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
I mean, if anybody playing out all scenarios, as
already know, of course ofcourse I'm getting good at it.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Um, if there was a replacement nominee, who would
you think would be a goodreplacement for either one of
the three?
Who do you think kiana wouldpick is my question um wait,
hang on.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Are we talking blockbuster or veto?

Speaker 1 (16:49):
no, I'm talking about veto, because we don't know who
won yet.
So if he had to last, night oh,it did error.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Okay, so have you watched it, yet no, I I know the
result, but okay, but youhaven't watched, yet yeah so all
right so what are we talkingabout?

Speaker 1 (17:05):
so then, if we know who won the veto, we we can, we
can we can.
Why are we talking about Morgan?

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yes, this is going to air tomorrow right.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
No, Morgan won, no Morgan won.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
Morgan won.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yeah, so this is going to air tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
It's okay, morgan won , and then okay, hold on.
There is a lot to talk about ifwe're going to go live here, so
okay.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
And that's right, morgan won.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
And see, I didn't know if you saw it, sorry, yeah,
we watched last night okay, okay, yeah, morgan won devito,
so that kind of, and ashley wasput up in her place.
Yes, but hold on before thathappens.
That's what I want to talkabout.
Okay, before morgan decides.
So you haven't watched theepisode yet.
No, because, yeah, right, solet me just throw us, since

(17:55):
we're going to talk about theepisode.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
You can talk about the episode 100%, because I know
what happens.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
One important thing that I don't know if you've seen
yet, because it wasn't a hugething.
So I believe it starts withKeanu's idea.
But Keanu comes up with thisidea where if Morgan uses the
veto on Vince instead of herself, then he will put up Lauren

(18:21):
instead to guarantee that Morganstays, but he then, after
telling her that, tells Vincehe's not going to do it, he's
just going to say it, and thenhe's going to put up Ashley
anyways and then fast forwardlater in the episode.
Yeah, tim, if you're justlistening, tim's jaw is hanging

(18:42):
from the floor.
You're going to watch theepisode today.
Then, after that fact that hesays he's not going to do it
anyways, morgan kind of thinksabout it out loud in the group
setting and then suggests itherself.
And then Keanu says, honestly,I would do that if you would.
And then Vince has to pretendlike this is the first time he's

(19:05):
hearing of this idea.
So Vinny is very playing bothsides, even with his closest
ally here.
You need to watch this episode, dude, you see that's slimy as
anything.
No, you see, that's slimy, youdon't do that with your closest
people.
Was was doing that, but he Idon't love.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
I don't love that keanu has been safe and that's
why I don't love that.
I don't love that.
How many times I love keanu.
We've talked about that.
But how many times does the guyhave to betray him in order for
him to like why would hesupport?
Look what keanu, look who's.
Keanu has gotten out all hisallies.
Like he, he got out, catherine,he got out, riley, he got out.

(19:46):
Uh, I mean all the people thathave kind of been on his team,
like how, why, why I don'tunderstand it.
I don't understand it it's, it's.
I don't know either I think themove is to get him out now,
with him and mickey and ashleyon the block.
I think the move is to getvince out.

(20:06):
Do I think that vince has thevotes?
I don't know, but it has to.
Has to be either Vince orMickey if he wants to have an
impactful week.
I think Ashley is not the votefor this week.
I don't think she is honestly.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
I agree.
I think that was simply, as heexplains in the episode, that
basically there's only two otherchoices he has to put up, and
it's either her or Ava, and hefeels like ashley who has the
votes to stay.
So that's why he did it andhonestly I think that was the
move for him for the rachelstandpoint, because ava is
aligned with rachel exactly andhe doesn't want to be in the odd

(20:43):
numbered out when it comes toit, which I think it's fair, and
he kept tb and he was honestwith rachel about it.
As you'll see in the episode,he's like I've only got two
choices.
She's one of the choices.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
He's not playing emotionally.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Rachel, then maybe I don't want to spoil too much for
you because you haven't seen ityet.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
That's okay, I don't care.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Rachel may pull a Rachel threatened card out of
her back pocket and it makesKeanu start thinking well, maybe
I should just put up Rachelinstead of Ashley.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
Seriously Seriously.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Yeah, it's definitely worth watching.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
All right, I'll check it out for sure, big Brother
folks.
So my prediction based on who'sgoing to go home tonight, I
feel, looking at the votes, it'sprobably going to be um, I
don't know.
I just said vince, right I?
Don't know I'm, I'm split Ithink mickey has the votes.

(21:40):
I, I think will's gonna votefor mickey.
I think ava's gonna vote formickey.
I think, uh, definitely don'tforget, we still have the
blockbuster, right, but I thinkI think vince has burned so many
people that I think that he'sgoing to go home or go to the
jury house.
Their jury now.
Right, they're a jury I believethis is the first jury now yeah,

(22:02):
I think so or they're one away, one of the two dude, I think
this show needs like a doubleeviction coming up.
Come on, we gotta havesomething going on here,
probably next week right yeah, Ithink.
So I think you'll probably havejulie tonight.
Uh, as this airs, probably youguys have seen it already, but
she'll probably say somethingalong the lines of and next week
a double eviction on bigbrother.

(22:23):
That's it um all right.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
So big brother folks also did I notice that I don't
know if this is accurate, but isthere a a Tuesday episode of
Big Brother in the coming weeks?

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Probably that's when September is when they start to
get funky with the schedule.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
So I can see that I thought I saw one on a random
night that I'm not used to onthe TV guy, but I don't know.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
I'm sure that's coming and we have a new
unlocked this week, I think.
Right, we do yeah, so we'll seewho that special guest is.
They've been, I must saythey've been Boston Rob.
I mean they've been havingdecent guests.
I never thought I'd see aBoston Rob Big Brother crossover
.
That was pretty cool for a fanof both.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Yeah, once he became BFFs with Derek on Traitors, I
feel like that was inevitable.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Okay, real quick, because I know you haven't
watched it, but I have to saythis why aren't you watching
Survivor, australia versus theworld?
What is going on?

Speaker 2 (23:15):
We haven't had time yet.
Take it easy.
Hey, relax guy, Take a rest.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
I mean it's not like you have a new baby or something
.
I mean, come on, I'm justkidding.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
The problem is it's on YouTube only.
That's the problem.

Speaker 1 (23:31):
What you can pull it up on the TV.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Well, I know, but I'm just saying YouTube is not in
your first thought.
You know what I mean.
You've got your DVR, you've gotNetflix and Prime and there's
other ones ahead of YouTube butit's high on the list.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
I'm just yanking your chain.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
I know you are and I did think that we wouldn't have
another episode.
I thought we'd have two weeksbetween when we recorded the
plan was to watch this comingweek, like maybe Monday or
Tuesday, watch it.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
So we had to record earlier than I thought.
So this weekend they're at thefinale already, the final four I
know.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
And I keep forgetting that they do two.
I'm keep don't look forspoilers they do two, I'm not.
I forgot.
I kept forgetting that they dotwo a week.
That's why it's surprising howfast it went let me just quickly
say what.

Speaker 1 (24:18):
I'm not spoiling a thing, because I know a lot of
our audience probably hasn'twatched it yet either.
I will say this it is worthyworthwhile, fantastic of a
season.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
As a survivor fan, it is a newly I mean, I can only
imagine with the people on itdude, and in the world
competition is and theaustralians are amazing, like
they're great.

Speaker 1 (24:42):
Um I I highly recommend, highly highly
recommend.
I mean I I was saying I wassaying to somebody that last
week or this week I'm sortsurprised that CBS didn't
purchase the rights to thisseason to pair up with Big
Brother because it would havekilled in the ratings.
I think the person I mentionedthis to said he doesn't think

(25:03):
that the regular Survivor kindof fans would want to see it.
I'm like no.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
No, not when they have fan players of who the
regular fans are fans of.
Yeah, I mean three.
And poverty on the same season.
Who wouldn't want to watch that?

Speaker 1 (25:18):
I'm rooting for all of them.
So I hope all of them, allthree of our american players,
uh, do well.
Who was the other one again?

Speaker 2 (25:25):
tony, tony and poverty've got to start that.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
Yeah, it's fantastic.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
And David.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
And David from.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Deal or no Deal, yeah , yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:36):
Yeah, so no spoilers.
I want to talk about it.
We're going to talk about it.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
It's high on the list .
It's high on the list.
Okay, it's probably, other thanlike, it's probably second on
the list to finish.
So it'll be soon, so so good.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
That's so for the.
For our fans, it's survivorAustralia versus the world.
There are episodes available onYouTube for us Americans who
don't get channel eight fromAustralia that shows a show, so
check it out.
It is fantastic, all right.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
So, dude, speaking of fantastic, yeah you're feeling
a little better a week later.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Huh I'm pointing to my mets hat right now that I'm
wearing.
I'm feeling great, dude, likeI'm feeling this is the time for
us to start getting hot.
Um, yeah, we had a couple ofrough games this week.
Um, and it's the marlins.
I don't know, the marlins haveour number for some reason, uh,
but we did sweep the phillies,so that was fun.
Um, and news came out today, breaking hot off the, that the

(26:37):
Marlins are calling up BrandonSprote against the Reds, so
that's good Is it pronouncedSprote?
Isn't it?
I thought it was.
I don't know I'm asking becauseevery time I see his name
written in my head.

Speaker 2 (26:49):
I always thought it was Sprowat.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Oh, I always called him Sprote You're probably right
at.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Oh, I always call him you.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
You're probably right .
I don't know.
I think it's Sprote, but I'mnot positive.
But you know you mentioned toour views because we mentioned
before we went on air.
What were your comments after Ikind of mentioned that he was
you.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Oh yeah, I was just saying how it's basically like
the golden era right now andthat's the windows open.
You got the new owner spendingmoney, you just got Soto.
You're a playoff team, all ofthe young prospects are up.
You've got now three of thestarting pitching prospects in
the rotation which I don't eventhink the most optimistic Mets
fan would have thought at thispoint of the season.

(27:27):
Things are looking good rightthere in Queens or Flushing,
which would you prefer Flushing?

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Which would you prefer?
Flushing, flushing?
Well, as you said a coupleepisodes ago, winning a lot of
games.
That's what they're doing.
So what about the Cubs?
What about the?

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Cubs.
The Cubs also had a prettystrong week overall.
They did lose yesterday, but Imean now the Cubs' lead for
wildcard one is four full gameson San Diego.
I mean now the Cubs lead forwildcard one is four full games
on San Diego.
And we're now at the pointwhere, with the Padres kind of
slumping and the Mets winning alittle bit, we're back into a
slight danger zone of Cubs-Metsin the first round.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
We'll see Wait, are we going to have a Cubs-Mets
wildcard game?

Speaker 2 (28:10):
If it were to end today, it still would not, but
the Mets are within one of SanDiego now for wildcard two.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
That's crazy, bro.
That's crazy, yeah.
I mean.
Either way, I guess win-win forus kind of yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Also, division-wise, both of them are equal, where,
basically, the Cubs are six backin the lost column, the Mets
are six back in the lost column,so each of them are still in
striking distance, but maybe notthe most likely.
Do the Mets and Phillies stillplay one more time though, don't
they?

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Yeah, they do Okay.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
so I'd say the Mets have the better chance.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Either way, eventually one of our seasons is
going to end, which is going tosuck either way.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
But what a season we're having both teams.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah, and it's not over, but looking more likely
that both teams should beplaying in October.
The magic number has nowchanged between both the Cubs
and Mets to currently the Redsgot jumped.
The Giants are now the firstteam out.
The Giants have won 9 out of 10, but our Giants, so they.

(29:22):
We got swept by them in SanFrancisco after we had swept the
Angels and then took 2 out of 3from the Rockies.
That was the series in betweenand, yeah, we should have won at
least one of those, but theGiants are Cincinnati, what's
happening?
Yeah, the Reds probably justfell on their face.
They've played some good teams.
Reds are mostly.

(29:42):
I mean they could turn itaround, but the way they're
playing they're in trouble.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
And we have the Marlins.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
I had to do that.
I had to do that, come on.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
The Diamondbacks and Cardinals are both half a game
behind Cincinnati, but they'reboth five and a half out as well
, so so basically it's theGiants, the Reds, the Cubs and
Mets are in that mix forwildcard, basically.
Well, if we're going to countthe Reds in, then the
Diamondbacks and Cardinals arestill only one.
That's right.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
So there's some teams but yeah, let's go, mets and
Cubs let's go, but I'd ratherthe Mets win the division and us
at least have a chance to kindof win a playoff game.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Well, as far as today goes, both the Cubs and Mets
are off, but the Phillies andBrewers play head to head one
more time.
So one of the Cubs and Metswould gain half a game.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
So you're rooting for the Brewers and I'm rooting for
the Philly.
I mean, I'm rooting for theBrewers, you're rooting for the
Phillies.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Yeah, pretty much, but I don't think we're going to
catch them.
So we'll see what the weekend, though, will be big because the
Mets play in Cincy, so the Metscan pretty much and Cincy season
with two out of three more thanlikely Sweet, so that'll be a
big one.
And then we got the Giants areplaying the Cardinals

(31:02):
head-to-head, so one of thosetwo teams will probably be done
by the weekend.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
Also, the Padres play Colorado, though, so hopefully
the Rockies can keep winning acouple games though, so
hopefully the Rockies can keepwinning a couple games, and I
mean it's so September baseballis so unpredictable because
there's so many things that haveto go into play, that are in
the mix, and it's going to beinteresting to see how it kind

(31:28):
of pans out in the next coupleof weeks.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Yeah, we should.
I'd say by next week a couplemore teams will be eliminated.
It'll be a little more clear.

Speaker 1 (31:38):
So let's be speaking of being clear and first weeks,
and well, no one talked aboutfirst week, but it's a stupid
transition anyway.
But let's talk about theVikings.
What's going on with theVikings?
The Bears are facing theVikings this week.
What do we think we're at?
Are you impressed?
I brought up football come on.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
I'm impressed that you brought up the vikings.
At first I was.
I wasn't sure if you were, ifyou were trolling and I'm gonna
break it.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
I'm gonna bring up the ravens in a second too.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
See, I kind of yeah um, I mean two great games week
one, I mean as far as actualfootball goes.
I mean those two games are bothone point spreads.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
Wow so bears Vikings bills Ravens.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
Yeah, so two great games where we're talking about,
so that's great, um, and thenthe, the, the.
Of course, here's somethingthat I don't think I can
remember ever thinking would bea possibility, but as you know,
I love football.
Week one Sunday is huge.
There's so many games right, both the Bills, who are playing

(32:44):
the Ravens, and the Bears are, respectively, sunday night and
Monday night football, so theydo not even you don't even have
to worry about missing the othergames because of that.
So the reason why I brought itup in the way I did was the
Bears, as you know, have notbeen that great for a while.
The fact that the Bears aregetting ticketed for a Monday
night game week.

(33:04):
One shows you that they're atleast going to be watchable, so
that's exciting.

Speaker 1 (33:11):
At least going to be watchable.
That's funny, at least going tobe watchable.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
That's funny.
I will say this will be thefirst year where I have to
consider having if the Bears areat noon during red zone, I
might want the sound on theBears game.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Nice.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
I love that I've been a red zone first Bears on the
second screen guy for years andwe'll see which is your own team
to be on the second screen.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
It is my own team yes , exactly.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
Team to be on the second screen yes, exactly, I
mean, sunday red zone is justthe best.
You get eight games at the sametime.
I mean, for a football personit it's the best.
And brief, I'll be remiss if Idon't bring up the fact that
this is the first year that redzone is gonna have commercials.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
Ew, I know how is that gonna work?
They going to like stop all thegames and show commercials in
the middle of the game.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
The football comes first.
So there won't.
They won't be during anytouchdowns.
There won't be.
It won't be during anyimportant how do you coordinate
that?
So he's going to probably justdo.
They're probably going to beearlier in the in the games.
First quarters during halftimesat games.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
But you don't necessarily have the same run
where they're at in one game, isit necessarily because of
stoppage and right?

Speaker 2 (34:19):
so I think he'll do is they'll do it when there's
like a good majority of them areat halftime and there's some
others going on.
So like, for example, there'snot a constant like, if there's
like a, say, a 70 yard defensivetouchdown, that doesn't happen,
live on red zone sometimesbecause it's you know it's
happening in a moment where theydon't expect it.
So then they they show you thetouchdown after the fact.

(34:41):
My guess is is, if you've gotseven or eight games on a Sunday
at noon let's say four or fiveof them are at halftime, no
one's close to the red zone, that might be your moment and
then if it comes back andsomething crazy happened,
they'll just show you the replay.
Ah, I gotcha Interesting.
My favorite thing on Sundayswas when he used to say Scott
Hanson used to say seven hoursof commercial free football.

(35:03):
Now he already previewed it onhis interview with, uh, um, pat
McAfee, it's seven hours of redzone.
Football starts Now.
He just took out the car.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
To quote Vince from big brother.
That would be funny, actually,if I actually had time to do
that.
That would actually be amusing, you know, I mean I guess you
take the good with the bad.
I mean the fact that you stillhave red zone, which is
obviously, uh, prime choice, especially, I mean, if I own a,

(35:40):
if I own a drinkingestablishment, I mean that's
what's up there.
So, you know, you maximizingyour television screens, your
screens, yeah, um, uh, that'sjust what.
So, folks, if, if you're, ifyou're a fan of the podcast, you
know this, I'm not a hugefootball fan, I am a fan of the
bills.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
So, we probably won't lead these discussions real
quick too, before we take off.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
Josh Allen.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Yeah, lamar Jackson, that is appointment television.

Speaker 1 (36:13):
Absolutely Two great quarterbacks, 100%.
I know Well you.
So what shirt are you going towear?
You have your Lamar Jacksonshirt.

Speaker 2 (36:23):
You have your Josh Allen shirt.
I'll probably have to go LamarJosh Allen t-shirt with my Lamar
Jackson Jersey.
I don't have a Josh AllenJersey.
So, it's the best way to beable to wear both.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
I love that Okay.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
All right, fair enough, but the interesting
thing is is that this will beI'll probably, we'll probably
have to wait till like latesecond quarter and kind of
piecemeal it with some pausing, but we're going to have to watch
most of Big Brother duringhalftime, I think, because can't
miss Bill's Raven.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
Sorry, that game is no that's too good, and it's
week one.
I mean it's gonna set the stagefor the season.
Um, yeah, it's.
I mean it's a good test forboth teams to see who can kind
of triumph.
Uh, it'll be interesting to see.
I think it'll say a lot tooabout the season in general for
those two teams and how they'regonna kind of pivot and go.

(37:12):
And I, I, I expect that game.
With my limited footballknowledge, I expect that game to
be very close.
I think it's going to be abattle defensively and
offensively.
So we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Yeah, it should be fun.
Honestly, it really should.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
So, speaking of fun, real quick, I didn't.
So last week I did.
Last episode I did an unboxingand this came after.
I just wanted to share it.
This is last episode.
I did an unboxing and this cameafter.
I just wanted to share it.

Speaker 2 (37:39):
This is amazing spider-man number 300.
And wait, wait, pull it backjust a smidge so I can see the
bottom.
Oh there, wow, okay, that looks.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
It just looks so good in the slab, you're, you're not
wrong so this is a newsstandedition, how you know, it's a
newsstand, just for those whodon't.
If it's a barcode here, if itwasn't a newsstand, it how you
know, it's a newsstand, just forthose who don't.
If it's a barcode here, if itwasn't a newsstand, it would
have a spidey face here.
Newsstands are rarer.
These actually came off of anewsstand.
I bought this exact copy, thisbook, on a newsstand, in 1988.

(38:08):
So this came out in 1988.
This is the third edition, third comic by mcfarlane for
spider-man, and what's criticalabout this is the very first
appearance of venom, thecharacter of venom, eddie brock.
This is it, and this is one ofthe most highly collected comic
books from the 1980s.
Right here, and I got a 9.4,which is not bad for a newsstand

(38:31):
edition.
It's about an 800 comic bookright now, as the market stands,
which it's never being sold.
By the way, this is somethingdon't PM me.
I'm not selling it.
It's never being sold, ever, ever, ever.
It's in my collection.
Forever, so there's.
By the way, I don't show thisthat often, but here's the back
of it.
It's an addition, it's um, it'sa uh addition, uh, it's a.

(38:58):
It's a advertisement for avideo game, top secret si that's
so fun.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
80s, so 80s um.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
But yeah, that is really cool, so cool, I love it.
Um, so, um, let's see, we got.
We got some movies come outreal quick, uh, anything, uh, on
, on, your must see anything youwant.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Um, well, I mean we, we, we love pixar movies, so you
want to see?
Well, I mean, we love Pixarmovies, so we still want to see
Bad Guys 2.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
And you haven't.
So you're going to see NakedGun, Although that's not a.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
Pixar movie that's just animated, no yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
But animated movies are great.
I mean, you're talking to theguy who collects comic books.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Yeah, I still have been very bad, All of them.
I have not seen naked gunSuperman.
Fantastic for you, you havesome kind of excuse or something
.
Yeah, I know it's been a littlebaby but no, you know what's
funny is um we um.
Do you guys have an Alamo?

Speaker 1 (39:52):
The draft house.
I want to.
I want that so bad.
No, I've heard about it.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
Okay, so there's one of those in Wrigleyville and
they are bringing back thisthing called baby movies.
So I think it's like Tuesday orWednesday for the morning shows
.
Until a certain time They'llhave the lights on a little more
, they'll have the sound turneddown a little more and it's baby
friendly.

(40:16):
You're supposed to be able to.
I love that.
I love that.
I just saw that.
So we'll, we're considering it,we'll see.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
Yeah, I thought that the only concern is can you
imagine a theater full of cryingbabies?

Speaker 2 (40:29):
yeah, I know, but if you're bringing your own, yeah,
bring your own baby, it's onlythe ones before a certain time
of day.
So the people are warned.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Yeah, no, I'm just saying Don't go to one of those
if you don't want to hear it.
It's nice for socialization, for new parents to kind of
socialize with other new parents, and I think it's a great idea.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
Yeah, so we might.
We might check that out one ofthese days.

Speaker 1 (40:50):
Sweet.
Anything else you want to bringup?
No, I think we covered it.
I think so too, buddy.
It's good to see you, as always.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
Good to see you too, Greg.
Good to be back.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
Absolutely.
