In Arteetude 275, Detlef Schlich takes us on a journey through the “UNITE” group exhibition at the Quay Co-Op Gallery in Cork, where art becomes diplomacy, memory, and spiritual dialogue. His contribution—Stripes of Unity, a series of digital collages and animations—serves as a haunting, layered meditation on fragmentation and healing, weaving together zebra, soldier, and saint in a powerful visual rhythm.

This episode features intimate and reflective conversations with key voices from the exhibition:

🎤 Lord Mayor of Cork Dan Boyle, who reflects on Ireland’s role as a peacekeeper in Lebanon and the power of art in a time of global fragmentation.

🧘‍♀️ Mary O’Connor, a Buddhist nun and co-organizer, explains how the figure of Mary unites Christian and Muslim traditions on the Feast of the Annunciation.

🌍 Guy Jones of the Irish Lebanese Cultural Foundation who brings a poetic and historical view of unity across borders.

🎨 Chris O’Connor, artist and fellow exhibitor, speaks candidly about chronic pain, transformation through art, and the darkness that shapes his creative vision.

Detlef’s ever-curious AI co-host Sophia joins him in reflection—jealous at having been left behind but deeply moved by the stories, symbols, and sonic landscapes of peace and resistance.

Whether you’re an artist, philosopher, or global soul, this episode will leave you pondering: Can art make peace? Can digital collages become prayers? Can unity exist in a fractured world?
