NobleJanobii (00:00):
I'm Noble
Janobiart,
PenPeaches (00:01):
I am Penpeaches, and
this is my Pokémon story.
NobleJanobii (00:03):
and this is my
Pokémon story.
David Hernandez (00:44):
Welcome to As
the Pokemon Ball turns, we
interview people about theirexperience with Pokemon.
My name is David Hernandez, Ihave a two for one special.
I have Noble Geno Art.
And Pan Peaches, both of y'all, welcome to the show.
NobleJanobii (01:00):
Thank you for
having us.
David Hernandez (01:02):
Oh, now
PenPeaches (01:02):
sync there.
David Hernandez (01:03):
earlier?
Before we record, they tried forlike five minutes to try to sync
up their beginning part, and allof a sudden now, they decided to
sync up together, mind to mind.
Oh my gosh.
But,
NobleJanobii (01:20):
to be.
David Hernandez (01:21):
right, right.
PenPeaches (01:22):
Mm hmm.
David Hernandez (01:24):
thank you all
both for coming on and how about
we, share the people who arelistening, you know, how do
y'all know each other?
What's the story behind thatbefore we dive into the whole
Pokemon stuff?
If y'all willing to share.
PenPeaches (01:33):
So, we were both
into, like, Pokemon comics as,
like, young kids, I guess.
And, you know, we would try toGoogle this kind of stuff on the
internet.
and we both ended up on, like, adefunct website.
And,
NobleJanobii (01:46):
Jeeves, for any of
the people out there who are
familiar, RIP.
Yeah,
PenPeaches (01:53):
yeah.
And we were both kind of in likethe Pokemon comic sphere.
I saw her commenting on likeanother popular Pokemon artist's
like webcomic.
And I think we were both like inthe same like art competition
contest for them.
Yeah.
NobleJanobii (02:10):
that artist hosted
a phone case design contest, she
had like a clear phone case, andso you could draw something for
it, and I think I ended upwinning it.
PenPeaches (02:19):
Yeah.
Haha.
but then you came across mycomic somehow.
NobleJanobii (02:24):
I did.
I don't even, I think it wasbecause, the, the artist was
Pokemon trainer Gigi.
She did like these Q& A things, and so she would have like, it
was kind of akin to whatAskvlogging is now, where people
would send in characters and askquestions of her characters, and
she would draw the responses, and your characters interacted
with hers on a couple ofdifferent occasions, and so I
(02:44):
think I found your commentthrough that.
And so I started reading up onit through that, and then you
did like that cameo call becauseyou were having the sentry duty,
chapter for, it was a PokemonExplorers of Sky comic.
PenPeaches (02:58):
Mm
NobleJanobii (02:59):
And so they were
having like different people
come through to be like thefootprints for the sentry duty.
And I sent in one of my OCs andthat's, that's basically how we
met.
David Hernandez (03:07):
Oh,
PenPeaches (03:08):
Yep.
David Hernandez (03:09):
So was this
like, based on the original
manga or artists like makingtheir own kind of comics with
Pokemon?
PenPeaches (03:14):
It was kind of like,
we were fans of like a certain
thing of our own niches, andlike I was in the PMD niche of
like that webcomic site.
NobleJanobii (03:24):
Yeah, you'll
notice if you, um.
Ever delve into the Pokemonwebcomic scenes, there's a lot
of different niches.
You'll have people who do likeoriginal comics, like Shinka the
Last Eevee is probably one ofthe most notorious ones because
it was really big back when wefirst met and then it got
rebooted.
More recently and actually justfinished this run then there's
other ones that are like PokemonMystery Dungeon comics where
(03:45):
they take, the premise of thedifferent mystery dungeon games
and basically make it their own.
And then there's like theNuzlocke comics, which all, you
know, they, they do a Nuzlockeand then they interpret it, that
way.
and then there's some people whojust do like regular
playthroughs of the games orjust, you know, They'll take,
like, the formula of, like,Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and do,
their own spin on it.
(04:07):
that was where, like, PMDVictory Fire, like, saw.
PMD Victory Fire integratedelements of the other games, but
PMD Victory Fire, um, andthere's a couple other ones out
there, put their own originalflavor on, uh, the setting and
made it kind of their own thing.
And that's seen a lot ofpopularity, especially recently.
David Hernandez (04:25):
how long have
y'all been together?
PenPeaches (04:27):
Oh gosh.
Um.
David Hernandez (04:28):
It's been that
long.
All right.
NobleJanobii (04:30):
So it'll be five
years next month.
We've been friends since, uh, wemet in 2013.
So we've been friends for over adecade now.
We ended up kind of going ourseparate ways and then we
reconnected when I was incollege, through discord so, uh,
cause we've been friends onSkype and so.
PenPeaches (04:50):
And DeviantArt.
NobleJanobii (04:52):
And DeviantArt,
that's true.
and so when you linked yourSkype contacts with Discord,
Discord was like, hey, thisperson that you're friends with
on Skype, is on Discord.
And so I ended up getting like afriend thing where it was saying
like, hey, so and so that you'refriends with on Skype is here.
And it was actually Peach's, uh,sibling.
PenPeaches (05:09):
Mm hmm.
NobleJanobii (05:10):
Uh, and I messaged
them.
Yeah, I don't, I still don'tknow how that happened, but
nevertheless.
I contacted sibling was like,Oh, hey, I'm not actually who
you're looking for.
Here! Heh heh heh
PenPeaches (05:22):
and yeah, it was
like destiny there.
David Hernandez (05:24):
that's awesome.
I love how, you know, y'allboth, which I was on separate
ways, but y'all stillinterconnected and y'all's own
unique, different way.
And now y'all here on thepodcast.
That's great.
NobleJanobii (05:33):
Yeah! Dynamic duo.
David Hernandez (05:35):
Oh, yeah,
PenPeaches (05:35):
Yeah, I figured our
story is interconnected enough,
which is why I asked for us bothto be on here.
David Hernandez (05:42):
no, and I
appreciate that because I think
it would be some something wouldbe missing if it wasn't.
And, you know, I alwaysespecially have a soft spot for
couples or people who'verelationships who come on this
podcast, because I love howseeing how Pokemon was able to
kind of bring it all together.
And, you know, neat way fory'all.
It was the Pokemon web comicscene.
PenPeaches (06:00):
Yeah.
NobleJanobii (06:01):
without, without
Pokemon, we would probably never
have met and not gottentogether.
David Hernandez (06:05):
Well, let's
start with like the pre log or
the beginning before we all met.
Penpeaches, how about you startyour first, what's your first
experience with the Pokemonfranchise?
PenPeaches (06:14):
gosh.
It was my cousin's fault,actually.
I was introduced via the Pokemontrading card game, and then like
started to get into the anime, and then eventually the video
games on the GBA.
but yeah, Pokemon wassignificant.
to my art career because that'show I started, basically.
David Hernandez (06:35):
How, how did
Pokemon lead into your art
career?
PenPeaches (06:38):
So, a lot of people
like the Pokémon card game for
the art most of the time?
David Hernandez (06:43):
Mm hmm.
Mm
PenPeaches (06:45):
it was very trendy
back in elementary school, you
know, to trade your Pokémoncards with the other kids, and I
was bored one day in class.
And I pulled out a Growlithecard and started, like, copying
the art off of it onto mynotebook.
my deskmates around me, saw medrawing and were very impressed.
They, then they came up to mewith their Pokémon cards and
(07:08):
asked me to draw their Pokémon,You know, it's, it inspired me a
lot to like, draw and draw more.
And at that time I had like abunch of notebooks just filled
out with drawings of Pokemon andvarious other media.
And yeah, that, now we're like,in 2009, actually.
So it's, it's been a while sinceI started to draw seriously.
David Hernandez (07:33):
And do you
remember, like, any specific
cards that stand out that reallyinspired you or that you
appreciated art at the time?
PenPeaches (07:40):
Oh, yeah.
even before like elementaryschool.
I remember in fourth or notfourth grade when I was four,
there was this horsey card wherethe horsey was like spitting out
smog.
And that was the first Pokemoncard that I like try to copy the
art of and try to draw off of.
David Hernandez (07:57):
What was it
about the horsey just seeing,
like, the smog and it trying to,defend itself?
Like, what about it that reallyintrigued you?
PenPeaches (08:03):
I'm not sure, but
that was like, the earliest
memory I've had of like, youknow, referencing and copying
off these, Pokemon card art.
David Hernandez (08:11):
So, Noble,
what's your first experience
with Pokemon?
NobleJanobii (08:14):
So I started with
the CCG as well.
when I was very little and Idon't remember exactly how old I
was, my parents, when, myparents would leave me with a
babysitter while they would goout and do stuff.
And so there was a family thatlived next door to the lady who
would babysit me that was reallyinto Pokemon cards.
(08:37):
And so they gave me my firstpack of Pokemon cards, and I
distinctly remember that thevery first cards that I, kept
and really treasured.
It was the base set Pikachu.
You can get it in TCG Pocketnow.
It's like the really, really oldlike artwork where it has like
the purple ish ears instead ofthe black and like purple brown
(08:57):
stripes.
It's got the forest in thebackground.
and then the Delta SpeciesSalamence.
And I still have both of thosecards to this day.
The Delta Species Salamence islike in tatters, but it's, have
it.
That's actually why Salamence isone of my favorite book ones to
this day, is because of thatcard.
but I started with that.
And then my Next Door Neighbors, when I got a little bit older,
were, really into Bookworm andStreet Dungeon.
(09:21):
And so, and this had to havebeen, like, I think around 2005
ish, because it was, PMD BlueRescue Team.
My Next Door Neighbors Uh,Linded me their cartridge of PMD
Blue Rescue Team.
and I played it, and I liked it,so my parents got it for me for
Easter that year, and that wasmy very first one game, and then
I got Diamond.
Yeah, I got Diamond later on,but when people always ask me,
(09:43):
like, What gin baby are you?
I'm like, it depends.
Are you counting mainline orside games?
Because if it's side games, I'mgin three.
If I'm mainline, it's gin four.
David Hernandez (09:52):
It must be so
different to come from a side
game into the Pokemon.
Cause I think you're one of the,I've only had like maybe five
others who have come from a sidegame.
what was it about the mysterydungeon games that you really
enjoyed at the time?
NobleJanobii (10:05):
loved the friend
areas.
That was probably my favoritething.
and still to this day, that'slike one of my favorite things
things to go back and explore.
I liked being able to, Iremember I had one of my first
playthroughs, I had a Charmanderfor my partner Pokemon, and you
got like Mount Steel as like thefree friend area with that.
And I really liked the PokemonAron, and so I just filled Mount
(10:26):
Steel with like as many Aron asyou could fit in there, and they
were just like all over theplace because I didn't
understand that like it wasn't alimited free space, that there
was only so many Pokemon thatyou could like fit in that
friend area, and it was designedto only fit like Basically one
of each that could fit in there.
So I had like, I think, eightAron or something in there, and
I was so happy.
but I love the friend areas.
(10:47):
The story was really good.
That's still one of my favoritePokemon, stories to date.
I love the whole like, Oh,you're a human turned Pokemon,
and you're going to save theworld.
And you have these, really coolconnections with everyone else
and the Fugitive Arc is still sogood.
I love the Fugitive Arc so muchand everything with, like, the
witch cats and everything and sothat's, uh, I have a lot of
(11:08):
really fond memories playingwith Blue Rescue Team.
Uh, I feel bad because I haven'tactually, like, entirely
finished everything that youcould do in it because, like,
you know, you start hitting, like, Western Cave and then,
like, the 99 floor dungeons andBut I have DX, as well, and I've
played a lot of time in that, and actually my DX team is named
after Peaches and I.
David Hernandez (11:27):
Oh, that's so
sweet.
NobleJanobii (11:29):
Mm hmm.
David Hernandez (11:31):
love good, uh,
I love good love stories like
that.
I love connection.
So it warms my heart every time.
So,
NobleJanobii (11:38):
Yeah, I'm, I've
evolved us now, so we're, uh, a
Blastoise and Raichu, but wewere a Squirtle and Pikachu duo
for that.
It was fun.
PenPeaches (11:46):
hmm.
David Hernandez (11:47):
you know, you
talked about how originally you
were doing TCG and, you know, you were inspired by the art.
When did you first start playingthe games?
PenPeaches (11:54):
Oh, I don't really
remember, honestly.
Um, but I do remember my firstone.
Um, my first Pokemon game wasPokemon Blue, actually.
even though I was, like, prettyyoung, I think I was, like, in
the Gen 3 era, when, like, Ifirst got introduced to Pokemon,
that was still my first evergame, Pokemon Blue.
David Hernandez (12:15):
That's crazy.
I would think it'd be likePokemon Ruby or Sapphire.
PenPeaches (12:19):
hmm.
David Hernandez (12:19):
And what do you
remember about playing that
game?
Like, do you remember it beingfrustrating?
Easy?
Like,
PenPeaches (12:24):
Oh, probably
frustrating, because English is
not my first language.
and like, like you're kind ofconfused about where to go to,
if you don't understand, like, much of the dialogue as well.
David Hernandez (12:36):
So I guess
maybe give some clarity.
So English isn't your firstlanguage.
So what is your first language?
And why was it so difficult?
PenPeaches (12:42):
I'm from Thailand.
it also is due to the fact thatI was really young as well.
It was probably when I was fiveor six, maybe.
David Hernandez (12:50):
So I guess at
the time, you know, English, you
were still learning it or, youknow, it didn't comprehend it.
So were you basically like justgoing to the game, like
blindfolded, basically trying tofigure stuff out?
PenPeaches (12:58):
Yeah, I was just
kind of getting lost and not
knowing where to go.
David Hernandez (13:04):
How did you
navigate?
Do you remember?
PenPeaches (13:05):
I think another one
of my cousins would, like, watch
me play the games too and, like, direct me here and there.
David Hernandez (13:12):
Pokemon blue,
you stay engaged with franchise?
what did your connection Pokemonstay throughout that?
As grew up.
PenPeaches (13:20):
it's been a variety
of things, so the games for
sure.
I got into Emerald.
my neighbors would also have, like, Pokemon diamond or pearl I
would be allowed to like, youknow, play for them cause they
didn't want to grind.
I'm grinding for them.
David Hernandez (13:36):
Ha
PenPeaches (13:37):
then there's the
anime and then there's like
other games, like super smashpros as well.
David Hernandez (13:42):
so you said
your neighbors didn't like
grinding, so I guess you'd liketo kinda grind on the games, or
like
PenPeaches (13:48):
Yeah, I would, I
would basically do it for them.
but I was like, Oh, it's Pokemonand I don't have this game.
So like, I'm happy to be playingit.
David Hernandez (13:55):
Ha ha ha ha ha!
So even still at that point,
when you played the games, youjust You still didn't have your
own copies.
PenPeaches (14:01):
No, not, yeah, not
every copy, so I didn't have
like, gold or silver at thetime.
I didn't have diamond or pearleither.
David Hernandez (14:09):
what generation
of Pokemon do you find most
appealing to you?
PenPeaches (14:13):
So, my favorite is
Hoenn, the Hoenn region.
mostly cause I really likedEmerald.
I like the story, I like thedesigns, I also have, like,
memories of it too, of mycousins playing it and just me
watching over their shoulder.
David Hernandez (14:28):
Noble, so
originally you were telling us
about how, you know, you enteredin through Mystery Dungeon and
eventually you got into PokemonDiamond.
That was your first game intothe main series.
What about you?
What generation of games did youfind appealing?
Especially coming from a, Iguess, spin off game
perspective.
NobleJanobii (14:44):
I'm a big Gassino
slash Hisui slash Unova girly.
Jynx 4 and 5 are like, and thenlater on with Legends RCS are
like my, my bread and butter.
pieces can tell you, I wouldrun, like Nuzlocke's of Jynx 4
And various challenge runs, oreven just vanilla runs of those
games all the time back incollege, I was running them.
(15:05):
I've played probably hundreds ofhours of diamond, pearl,
platinum, black, white, blackand white too.
I think platinum and thenPokemon black are probably two
of my favorite games.
The legends RCS has kind of beatout all of them because I really
love legends RCS.
David Hernandez (15:19):
Ha ha ha ha
NobleJanobii (15:20):
Um, but I just, I
like, even, even if they've got
their, flaws, like, oh my god,the EXP system in Unova is bad.
but, they, they are really funand charming games.
I like the, the story in Blackand White a lot.
I like the gym leader designsand the pathing in Gensokyo.
I mean, my favorite Pokemon,Shaman, is from Gen 4.
(15:43):
so there, that's a, that's ahuge win.
And a lot of my favorite Pokemonare from, Sinnoh
David Hernandez (15:49):
You bought a
good compare contrast between
the two because gen four It wasdefinitely like a very big world
building generation for mebecause I enjoyed like how they
added like the gods They had adifferent nature gen 5 kind of
built on top of that cuz you gotlanders You've got thunderous
and you forgot the other one.
I forget about so, uh Tornadoesturn out.
Yeah tornadoes I always forgetthat one But you know They kind
(16:10):
of built out this world withthose two generations and some
people consider that to kind ofthe golden area if you Hargold
so silver Yep.
NobleJanobii (16:18):
I love Hargold and
Silsilver too.
Um, that was what I had, uh,because I didn't get to play the
original red, blue, yellow, gold, silver crystal.
Um, because I, I started outbasically in the DS era.
And while I could go back andplay the original Hoenn games
because of the, DBA slot thatthe Nintendo DS had, Um, you
couldn't play the Gen 1 and 2games because those weren't
(16:41):
compatible, so you, I didn'thave a Game Boy and couldn't
play them, so, Heartgold toSilver was my first introduction
to the Johto region, and, Thoseare fantastic games.
I have a lot of fond memories ofplaying HeartGold, I still have
my teams from my originalplaythrough of HeartGold,
Platinum and Black, they'rescattered across my various
Switch games now, but I stillhave all the ones that I used in
(17:02):
those games.
David Hernandez (17:03):
Oh my gosh,
that's amazing.
I still have mine too, but Ithink all of mine are deposited
on Pokemon Bank.
That's kind of where they restright now or in retirement.
I guess if you could say.
NobleJanobii (17:12):
Yeah, I gave them,
I sent them into vacation, into
like, Palladaia, and then someof them just went back to
Sinnoh, so like, they just kindawent to a Sinnoh that is
slightly different from the onethey knew.
Uh,
David Hernandez (17:21):
this looks
familiar.
It just it just seems more olderor something like that.
So
NobleJanobii (17:25):
Yeah, they're
like, why is everything cheap y
now?
David Hernandez (17:29):
what did you
think of the remakes of
Brilliant Diamond and ShiningPearl?
Since that is kind of the eraentryway.
Like did you like them?
Were you a fan of it?
NobleJanobii (17:37):
I like them,
they've grown on me over time, I
was initially like, a little bitdisappointed because I had hoped
we would get something more akinto like, Fire, Red, Leaf, Green,
Heart, Gold, Soul, Silver, OmegaRuby, Alpha, Sapphire, it was
more than just like a new coatof paint, like they actually
introduced at least some elementof new content to it, but, we
have officially won the medal ofmost accurate remakes.
(17:59):
They cannot, there's no one elsewho can take that from us.
Gen four, we got it.
That's ours.
Uh, to the point they use thesame code, like, good job,
Elica.
Um, but I, you know, I can't betoo hard on them because I think
the art style, I actually reallylike the art style.
Cyrus looks hilarious.
I cannot take him seriously.
(18:19):
I mean you can't take himseriously in general, but I
really cannot take him seriouslywhen I feel like I could crush
him with my thumb.
Uh, but I, I like the art style.
I was really into the art stylewhen they initially announced
the remake.
They did introduce some newelements of it, the expansion of
the underground was really cool.
Uh, they also made it to whereif you have no friends, you can
get Spiritomb, which is great.
(18:41):
the following mechanic has a lotof charm, even if it's a little
bit buggy.
I would love to be able to walkwith Torterra.
Unfortunately, Torterra walksincredibly slow, but I think
that's fine.
It's really charming in and ofitself that they made the giant
world turtle walk insanely slow.
Um, I'm working on getting tothe point in my copy of
Brilliant Diamonds where I canshiny hunt shamans.
(19:03):
That's basically the only moderngame that you can shiny hunt
David Hernandez (19:08):
Yes, unless you
find a way to access the old
school event, which we might aswell just play Blood and Dye and
Shining Pearl at that point.
So, oh my gosh.
Real quick, so I know you saidChimmy is your favorite Pokemon.
what about it makes it yourfavorite?
Mhm.
NobleJanobii (19:24):
I saw, I remember
back when, uh, Shaman was first
revealed in 2009, you can seecause I doodled a lot as well
like growing up.
I was not a very good artist,but I did draw a lot.
You can see like a turning pointin my art as to when I
discovered shaman because I wasdrawing a lot of like Pichu,
(19:45):
Merrill and stuff like that, like somewhat easier, like round
Pokemon to draw.
And then it's just all shamanall the time.
And that is still exactly what Ido today.
So I haven't changed in, youknow, since 2009 in terms of
artistic brand.
But, um, I it was just I gonnasay, not all different.
PenPeaches (20:05):
still draws Shaymin
if you're into that, like,
content.
NobleJanobii (20:08):
All the time.
That is, that is 90 percent ofwhat I do.
I'm just a hedgehog.
I think I really liked bothforms.
I liked the land form a bit morepartially because it was easier
to draw.
Because it's literally just likea cloud with a face and legs.
but I, I liked both forms.
that it was fluffy, it was cute,it looked like you could hug it,
(20:29):
and then when the movie cameout, the Skyform, and like,
people don't like the brattyshaman.
I think the bratty shaman ishilarious.
I love the idea that thegratitude Pokemon is just like,
kind of a bitch.
Like, they're so mean.
They're very like, I mean, youare just like worthwhile.
You're just, you're basking inmy presence.
(20:51):
I'm here and you are just luckyto be like around me.
Express your gratitude of beingin my presence.
It's great.
I love it.
David Hernandez (20:58):
Oh, okay.
What do you think of Skyform?
Are you more a fan of theoriginal?
NobleJanobii (21:03):
So I'm more of a
fan of the landform even now,
but I think the skyform's areally cool design.
I like that they took, like, anangel element to it, because we
went from kind of like a pun inthe fact that it is a literal
hedgehog, um, You know, and sowe went from this kind of like
cutesy, very like ball shape toan angel that's more akin to
(21:24):
like a reindeer.
I like that they turned, like, kind of like an antler shape
into the wings.
Um, I think the incorporation ofthe feather, or not the feather,
the flower to look like a scarfis really cool.
I love the little boots.
it's a very interestinginterpretation of taking kind of
an animalistic approach to likeI said, an angel of gratitude or
(21:44):
like a divine spirit type ofthing.
especially in media where yousee portrayed, it's very spunky,
it's very energetic.
It's very like, it's the cool tolandforms cute.
And I think the dichotomy isreally cool.
And I've done in the past, I've,interpreted Skyform in different
ways because I feel likelandform because of how it's
It's based on, uh, like thesimplicity, well, easy to draw
(22:06):
means that it's a little bitharder to take different
approaches to it, without addingsomething to the design.
Skyform, you can see like outthere, people do all sorts of
fantastic things withreinterpreting the Skyform.
Um, some of it's by addingelements.
But the different stylisticapproaches of like slightly
changing the colors, you know,uh, adding different, features
(22:27):
to it.
There's a lot more of a basis tobuild upon with it that I think
from an artistic element makesit a lot more appealing.
And so while I prefer the landform, the sky form is pretty gay
and I have fleshies of both.
So
David Hernandez (23:23):
So Penpeaches,
you talked about how you find
both Gen 3 and Gen 4 appealing,And you originally started with
Gen 3, I think.
No, you originally spent moretime playing Gen 3, So what was
it?
What'd you like about playingthrough Gen three?
You know, do you rememberanything that you really, that
stood out to you?
PenPeaches (23:38):
so this is where my
favorite Pokemon comes from,
actually.
David Hernandez (23:42):
Ooh, I love
this.
PenPeaches (23:43):
Yeah, so my favorite
Pokemon is Absol.
You could call me Basic if youwant to, but I remember, like,
it was a vivid memory of mycousin just kind of walking his
character through, like, thereally tall grass in that, like,
rainy area where you could findthem.
And then he encounters one, andI thought it was the prettiest
(24:03):
Pokemon that, like, you've everseen.
And I think it's just becauseI'm also familiar, more familiar
with the region as well.
so it feels more like at homefor me, you know?
David Hernandez (24:16):
you kind of
like know where to go.
You kind of know the routes, theregion, you know, the Pokemon at
that point.
PenPeaches (24:20):
exactly.
David Hernandez (24:21):
You know, funny
thing about Absol, when I first
encountered it, I thought it wasactually a legendary.
I thought it was like one of theroaming legendaries.
You remember Gen 2, it was likeEntei, Raikou, and
PenPeaches (24:30):
it just looked that
cool.
David Hernandez (24:31):
It did! It was
surprising.
PenPeaches (24:33):
Mm hmm.
David Hernandez (24:34):
What'd you
think of the Mega Evolution?
PenPeaches (24:36):
Oh, it's, it's very
pretty, too.
It's kind of like a simpleupgrade, but like nothing too
crazy, where it like, reallytakes away, you know, the basic
foundation of what it, what itlooked like, what it's supposed
to be.
NobleJanobii (24:48):
I think it should
have a baby.
I think a baby would be so cute.
PenPeaches (24:53):
A little baby
asshole,
David Hernandez (24:55):
little battle.
So yeah, you, I mean, you cansell so many plushes for that.
PenPeaches (24:58):
Oh yeah, for
NobleJanobii (24:59):
Exactly.
I'd buy 20.
PenPeaches (25:02):
Yeah, I already have
two of them on my shelf right
now.
David Hernandez (25:05):
Who was your
starter when you would play the
gen three?
Do you have a particularfavorite or do you like them
all?
Yeah, it'd Trico, Torchic,
PenPeaches (25:12):
So my top two
favorites were Torchic and
Mudkip.
Torchic was like my first onethat I picked on Emerald.
And Mudkip, I just really likehow funky that guy looks and
he's really powerful too, in theend.
NobleJanobii (25:26):
He's just a little
guy.
David Hernandez (25:27):
Can't go wrong
that.
PenPeaches (25:28):
I heard, I heard you
like Mudkips.
Yeah.
David Hernandez (25:31):
you like
mudkips, right?
NobleJanobii (25:32):
Oh God.
I don't know.
David Hernandez (25:35):
You know, when
it comes to the Hone games, I
remember the story with TeamAqua and Team Magma.
And I always found that veryinteresting in regards to It was
the first time I really kind ofenjoyed the bad guys, although
it Wasn't done well with TeamAqua.
I kind of prefer Team Magma'sstory.
PenPeaches (25:48):
Okay.
David Hernandez (25:49):
that whole
dichotomy of just seeing them
kind of try to I guess controlclimate in a way was kind of to
me very
PenPeaches (25:56):
Yeah.
David Hernandez (25:57):
I guess, you
know
PenPeaches (25:58):
Yeah, it felt like
the stakes were really high but
then you got Gen 4 with theirwhole like space, space time
dimension thing.
David Hernandez (26:05):
Yeah, they just
upped the stakes at that
PenPeaches (26:07):
Oh yeah.
NobleJanobii (26:08):
Cyrus is just
doing stuff.
We don't know what he's doingover there.
PenPeaches (26:13):
I mean, same with
Team Magma and Team Aqua.
We're like,
David Hernandez (26:16):
they're they're
trying yeah
NobleJanobii (26:18):
He's, he's 27, 28.
Like, we'll be, I'll, I'llunderstand what he's talking
about, like, in a couple years.
David Hernandez (26:27):
But it's crazy
because I remember, I don't know
if you remember, do you rememberthe music that would play after
they unleashed the beast wherethey'd be Groot on or Kyogre?
PenPeaches (26:34):
Oh man, it's been a
long time since I played till
the end,
David Hernandez (26:38):
It's one of the
most underrated creepy songs
NobleJanobii (26:42):
It is.
I remember it.
David Hernandez (26:44):
daunting.
Yeah.
NobleJanobii (26:45):
I remember it.
It's, it's, oh yeah.
David Hernandez (26:48):
Yeah, you gotta
go listen to anybody who's
listening to it.
Go and listen to it and tell meyou don't get freaked out.
Just hearing it.
It's very unsettling.
NobleJanobii (26:56):
Yeah.
that's that track.
And then the one that plays inDiamond, Pearl, and Platinum,
when Cyrus has, uh, Dialga andPalkia, like, remaking the
world.
There's, like, also kind of,like, a creepy, eerie music,
like, very underrated tracks, but they, they do very well with
the music in a lot of thesegames, I think, and those are
good examples of, like, moodsetting that you don't really
(27:17):
notice unless you're, like,listening for
David Hernandez (27:19):
Now What did
you think of the remakes, which
would be all rise Omega, RubyNai?
Did you get a chance to play'em?
And if so, what did you think?
Compared to the originals?
PenPeaches (27:28):
Yeah, I did get a
chance to play them, and again,
it was kind of like I was comingback home.
I just knew where to go andstuff.
There was like a new Mawville, was it?
That was like totally differentfor me, but I enjoyed that too.
Man, I forgot what new likeother content there was in that
game, but
NobleJanobii (27:47):
They added the
Battle Mesa in Mega Evolutions.
PenPeaches (27:51):
Yeah
David Hernandez (27:51):
Mm-Hmm.
I love the soaring with lattes.
Orias in the sky.
like that was a cool, funconcept.
PenPeaches (27:57):
that was too Yeah, I
just really loved seeing the You
know, my favorite game, justlike, upgraded, even though it's
like, they're still kind ofchibi models, if you look back
at it, and see, like, theproportions, and you're like,
face to face with Kyogre orGroudon, and it's like, oh,
they're so tiny.
David Hernandez (28:15):
They are, but I
guess it wasn't as noticeable
compared to Gen 4.
I feel like Gen 4 really leanedmore heavily into the chibi
model, in my opinion.
NobleJanobii (28:22):
They, they, they
squished the Gen 4 models down
really hard.
David Hernandez (28:27):
I got to ask
this last question before we
dive into Bothshell's art.
If you're going to do aplaythrough of just Hoenn in
general, would be the sixthPokemon you would bring?
PenPeaches (28:36):
The sixth Pokemon I
would bring, I think I would
bring, like, my OG kind ofsquad,
David Hernandez (28:41):
Let's go.
I love it.
PenPeaches (28:43):
Gardevoir, Taillow.
gosh, I don't remember the otherthree though.
I think a Gyarados?
I'm pretty sure.
Um,
David Hernandez (28:56):
Oh, called
NobleJanobii (28:58):
five?
David Hernandez (28:59):
out.
PenPeaches (28:59):
yeah, one of my top
five for sure.
then I'll have to bring an Absolalong too, I
David Hernandez (29:04):
Of course.
Yeah, you gotta bring, you gottabe the favorite.
That's your, that's your ace.
PenPeaches (29:07):
Mm hmm.
one of my other favorites isGulpin, actually, think.
yeah.
NobleJanobii (29:12):
Mm hmm.
David Hernandez (29:12):
open or just
swallow it or both?
PenPeaches (29:14):
Uh, both.
Swalot was like my tank inPokemon X and Y.
NobleJanobii (29:20):
Yeah, they did a,
um, Was it, was it an egg lock
or was it just like a regular,uh, Nuzlocke that ended up
PenPeaches (29:27):
yeah.
NobleJanobii (29:28):
Yeah, that they
had a small lot that was like,
tanky as all get out.
David Hernandez (29:33):
That's wild.
I've never thought I would meetsomebody who was actually a fan
of Gulpin or Swallow.
I didn't care for it myself, butI guess everybody has their
favorites.
Or every, every Pokemon's theirfavorite.
PenPeaches (29:43):
Mm hmm.
You just get the infestation, you get the poison, and then you
just like get some hits in andlike the enemy's down.
David Hernandez (29:50):
Wow.
Okay.
NobleJanobii (29:52):
when like, Rhyme
Sona's for Pokemon, or Detective
Pikachu was like a big thing,Gulpin was the one that they
picked for their partner withtheir rhinestone on.
PenPeaches (30:00):
Yeah.
David Hernandez (30:01):
Now, Noble, I
didn't get a chance to ask you
this question.
What six Pokemon would you bringfor a playthrough with Pokemon
Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum?
NobleJanobii (30:08):
I'm gonna
absolutely be the basic bitch.
Um,
David Hernandez (30:12):
I like it.
NobleJanobii (30:13):
I'm gonna go with,
I would say Empoleon,
Starraptor, Luxray.
Like, you gotta have Starraptorand Luxray.
It's not a single placer if youdon't.
Um, I would go with probablyRabid Ash, because I really like
Rabid Ash.
Drifblim.
And then Garchomp.
if Shaman were not locked in thepost game, that would be
(30:34):
absolutely on there.
But unfortunately
David Hernandez (30:37):
Shaman's
notable.
It's an asterisk.
NobleJanobii (30:39):
Yes, that's,
that's getting swapped in as
soon as I can.
PenPeaches (30:43):
Didn't you have like
an actual Pokemon run where it's
all Shaman
NobleJanobii (30:47):
Yes! So, this is,
this is back when, okay, so,
this is not by legal means, but,So,
David Hernandez (30:55):
not, I'm above
the law.
I don't
NobleJanobii (30:56):
is back when you
could, like, download apps on
your phone, and you could sendPokémon to your games through,
like, the GTS.
Um,
David Hernandez (31:04):
I remember
this.
Yes.
NobleJanobii (31:05):
and so, I had a
run of Pokémon Pearl.
Where I just traded myself sixShaman and ran through it.
And it was, and I still have, Istill have this cartridge, so
they're still in the Hall ofFame on the copy Pokemon Pearl.
it was a, I called it the ShamanSquad, and it was, it was
literally just a run of sixShaman.
they all had nicknames.
(31:26):
one of them was actually, I willsay one of them was legit.
It was from the Guardian signs.
ranger event that they had, butit was, Ovia for, uh, named for
the Guardian Signs Event, uh,flora Gracie, healer Striker and
Sunny.
And they basically, they all hadunique sets.
So like a striker was like a, afacade set.
(31:47):
Sunny was a sunny day set, healer, had like aromatherapy,
synthesis, all the stuff.
So I, yeah, I did a it was theshaving squad.
And unfortunately, becauseOlivia was the only one was,
that was legit.
That's the only one that I stillhave.
the rest of them are hanging outon my old Wii in my Pokemon
branch with like 999 other, orhowever many you could fit in
there, like a bunch of othershit.
PenPeaches (32:10):
Yeah, so you have
two answers for her.
David Hernandez (32:13):
crazy, right?
Two, six shamans and then theteam she had before.
Although I liked the six shamanbefore.
And for those who don't know, cause I was actually, I actually
did this too.
It was way back in the day wherethey had like some kind of app
where you can actually likeimplement your Pokemon, how you
wanted it, nature item, evenshinies and whatnot, and then
you would basically trade yourphone with the games get the
(32:34):
actual Pokemon.
That's how I was able to get theRCS.
I tried getting flute for it,but it didn't work for some
reason.
And all the other Pokemon thatwere hard to get like, Darkrai
and, you know, the mythicals, there's a lot of mythicals
backstab released.
NobleJanobii (32:47):
Well, the wild
thing was is you actually could
make them look like at leastlegit to Pokemon Bank, uh, if
you did the mythicals, uh,because they added later on they
had a toggle where if you had itwith the toggle of like met
through a fateful encounter andLike, the area that you met it
in and everything else was, like, legit to what it should
have been.
I don't know that it would haveworked for Arceus, but the rest
of the mythicals, it would work.
(33:08):
It would go through.
Don't ask me how I know that.
Um, but, but, uh, yeah.
And I still have, I have a bunchof shaman on, uh, Uh, my games
today on Pokemon Violet, I have,I think it's like nine
something.
One of them is Oblivia, the, theone from, uh, Guardian Signs.
The rest of them are from thatYear of the Mythical event,
(33:29):
where you could download themonto your DS games.
And I just, I, I had.
Basically every DS game that youcould, mainly DS game that you
could get at the time.
So I just wanted to shave itonto all of them and sit them
for it.
and then a friend of mine, backfor a Secret Santa event like
forever ago, traded me a shinyshaven that probably is not
legit, but we don't care becauseit's cool.
(33:52):
I did, I have lost one shavenalong the way.
We had the Shadows of Almiaevent shaman.
I got traded onto my copy ofSoulSilver that has since been,
uh, like either lost or stolen.
So we have to say RIP to theAlmia shaman, but the rest of
them I still have.
David Hernandez (34:09):
So let's keep
it moving forward.
I'm gonna start with a pinpeaches for this.
I want to talk about just art alittle bit.
So one reason why I brought, both on the show is I want to
kind of talk about the art andsometimes some of y'all had some
Pokemon stuff.
Some of y'all didn't, pinpeaches.
One thing that I noticed is youhad the Amaretto, which I think
it was like a remake of anillustration, correct?
Or I'm Aldo.
I'm
PenPeaches (34:28):
yes, um, I did have
that.
David Hernandez (34:31):
can you like
describe like what that's not an
original drawing right that'ssome kind of remake that you saw
PenPeaches (34:35):
Oh, it's not a
remake.
It was actually for this hugecollab called the Updated
Pokemon Rap.
it was a big collab.
one artist for one Pokemon, Andso we got like 800 artists
working on this thing at once, like just
NobleJanobii (34:51):
Alternate Forms
had unique artists too.
PenPeaches (34:53):
Yeah.
So I took Armaldo and of course,Jan took the Sky Shaman, I
believe?
NobleJanobii (35:01):
land shaman.
PenPeaches (35:01):
Land Shaman.
David Hernandez (35:02):
there's no way
why shaming of all Pokemon never
would
NobleJanobii (35:05):
I know, right?
I had to barter for that, because both shaman forms were
claimed when I first joined, andso I had initially taken
Spritzee, and I had to like, basically negotiate with the
shaman people to be like, hey,can I, can I have this?
Can I, can I, it's my favoritePokemon, can I have this?
I did, I did get it, but it tooka little bit of negotiation.
PenPeaches (35:24):
Yeah, so that was
for that collaboration.
It was an old drawing.
I think it was, a 2021 picture
David Hernandez (35:31):
Yes, it was.
And I loved kind of how you bothinclude both the original and
the shiny.
And it's like they're battlingeach other on like some waves,
which They're kind of fittingfor a model, especially even
though people don't consider ita water type.
kind of wasn't in the way, in myopinion.
PenPeaches (35:43):
Oh, yeah.
I also took the, different, like, shiny Armaldo from the
Pokémon Colosseum and XD games, because I thought that looked
cooler.
with the cyan instead of, likeJust turning it red.
Do
David Hernandez (35:56):
All right.
Uh, Noble.
Now for you, I know there's alots, lots, LOTS of Shaman art
and I could go here all day.
But one I wanted to highlightwas, I love the one you did for
Mimikyu.
I think it was commissioned forsomebody you did.
NobleJanobii (36:12):
Yes.
David Hernandez (36:13):
in like a green
hat and he was like holding a
cake.
NobleJanobii (36:15):
Yeah, so that was
a commission for a buddy of
ours.
or sorry, they wanted me to, um,Draw a Mimikyu in the Pokemon
Cafe Remix uniform holding theMimikyu dish from that game.
And I don't remember what it'scalled, but it's, they had like
for the Halloween stuff a coupleyears ago they introduced like a
(36:36):
Mimikyu themed dish.
And so that was, the cafe hat,Tie and then the, holding the,
the dish that it's made,probably.
David Hernandez (36:44):
Oh! Ha ha ha!
If I chance somebody who, uh,
cooks Pokemon, y'all need tolook at this picture, cause it,
that Mimikyu looks like, uh, amelted pudding on top of a cake.
At least from what I see.
Y'all need to see if I canremake that.
That'd be kinda cool, Anyway, Idon't know if I have that kind
of pull.
But, that was that was onedrawing I really liked.
The other one I liked was, thisis the most grumpy Pikachu I've
(37:04):
ever met.
I feel like it got sent to timeout.
It's one where it's arms arecrossed, and it has like a
little bracelet on it's ear.
Ha
NobleJanobii (37:14):
that was, oh my
god, where did we even get that?
So there was a forum that I wason forever ago that I was a
moderator and admin for, andthey would have, it was, called
like, the the peek a foo event.
And basically what it was, is itwas a sort of like a battle
royale setting where you as bestyou could, forums obviously, we
(37:36):
would all like try and, startout as like non Pikachus, and
one person would be trying toturn the rest of us into
Pikachus.
And so it was like, differentthings could, it was all kind of
random, you had different items,um, you could target specific
people, but then they would haveto try and like, they could do
different things to potentiallyavoid being hit, so on and so
(37:57):
forth, there were differentgames, and so that Grumpy Chew,
um, came from the fact that Iunfortunately lost in the, that
one, where that one came from.
And that, the, the ring thatGrumpy Chew has on her ear is a
ring that I, uh, wore a lot atthe time.
And so, that was where that camefrom, is it's like, oh, you've
(38:18):
been hit by the, the tacticalPikachu nuke.
Become Grumpy Chew! And so I waslike grumpy about losing, and
so, The, the reason Grumpychew,I drew that one later on is
because we had another round ofit and I got hit again.
David Hernandez (38:32):
But it's great
because I saw it.
I'm like, that needs to be anemoji on discord.
Like it's missing out.
Like somebody needs to either.
You need to commission an emojifor this grumpy Pichu or
somebody needs to make one.
Cause it was just such onecutest ones I've seen.
NobleJanobii (38:45):
Well, thank you.
Yeah, that's, I have a lot offun memories of Grumpychew.
Grumpychew's like, kind of likea tertiary Pocahontas for me,
just because I have a lot of funmemories with her.
David Hernandez (38:54):
and my last
one.
is obviously we cannot have theShaman trainer without some kind
of Shaman photo.
The one that really stood out tome was the one where Garchomp's
holding the Shaman.
It's in a scarf.
I feel like it was almost likeholding a bouquet in a way,
although it's kind of, it's moreof a wholesome pic for sure.
NobleJanobii (39:09):
Oh yeah, I think,
uh, I believe that one is, the
lavender, kind of garchomp withthe flowers on it, right?
Yeah, so that's, uh, one of myPMD OC teams, uh, PMD Team
Sunfluff, and so that is from arandomizer run of Pokemon Sky,
you know, they have like the,the Sky Bridge.
stuff that they'll let yourandomize stuff on now.
(39:31):
And so naturally I use this toplay Pokemon Sky, with two
Shaman.
David Hernandez (39:36):
Absolutely.
NobleJanobii (39:38):
Uh, and so one of
the first recruits that I got
was a Garchomp and I thought itwas hilarious because, you know,
you've got the two like eightinch tall hedgehogs and then
here comes the giant Garchomp.
His name is Adam.
He's great.
He's a gentle giant and he'sholding his two teammates, uh,
Avan and Kaiji.
David Hernandez (39:55):
Now, if you're
listening and you want to check
out these drawings, hop up.
Y'all to go ahead and plug thosewebsite.
Tell them where can they seey'all's art?
Where can they see what we'retalking about?
PenPeaches (40:04):
Okay, I am Pen
Peaches.
I'm, under the same name on BlueSky, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitch
sometimes.
probably, probably more sites, because I just wanted to claim
my name.
But those are my main sitesthere.
NobleJanobii (40:18):
And I'm, uh, Noble
Jenobi, or Noble Jenobi Art, one
of the, one of the two.
Uh, on Blue Sky, and Tumblr, themain sites that I post on these
days.
you can also find me on like acouple other sites, but Blue Sky
and Tumblr are the main placesthat I actively post.
