New Year of Hope By Walking With God
As we step into a new year, our hearts naturally look forward with a mixture of hope, questions, and prayerful longing. The new year stands before us as an unwritten chapter—but the beautiful assurance of Scripture is that God already walks within it.
The Bible reminds us:
“This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
(Psalm 118:24, KJV)
Every new year, every new morning, and every new beginning is a gift from a faithful God. No matter what the past year has held—joy or sorrow, victories or trials—God invites us to move forward with trust, not fear.
God Goes Before You
One of the most comforting promises in Scripture is that we do not step into the future alone:
“The LORD, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
(Deuteronomy 31:8, KJV)
This promise is timeless. As the new year unfolds, God goes ahead of every unknown, every decision, and every challenge. His presence is not dependent on circumstances—He is faithful because it is His nature.
This assurance is echoed with gentle encouragement, reminding believers that God does not lead His children step by step into uncertainty without purpose, but rather with loving foresight. She wrote that we may trust Him fully, knowing that what He permits is for our ultimate good, even when we cannot see the end from the beginning. (Paraphrased from Steps to Christ and The Ministry of Healing)*
Strength for Each Day of the New Year
Many people feel overwhelmed by the thought of an entire year ahead. God, in His mercy, does not ask us to carry tomorrow’s burdens today.
“Thy mercy… is new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness.”
(Lamentations 3:22–23, KJV)
God supplies grace daily, not all at once. Ellen White beautifully affirms this truth, teaching that we are given strength in proportion to the trials we face, and that today’s grace is sufficient for today’s needs. We are not expected to live the new year all at once—only one faithful day at a time, actually one moment at a time, looking at everything we see to find God’s love and grace.
Hope Anchored in God’s Promises
The future feels secure when it is anchored in God’s promises rather than human uncertainty.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
(Jeremiah 29:11, KJV)
This verse reminds us that God’s plans are redemptive, peace-filled, and hope-centered. Ellen G. White reinforces this promise by emphasizing that God’s plans for His children are always plans to restore, strengthen, and prepare them for eternal life. The believer’s hope is not wishful thinking—it is grounded in the character of God Himself.
Moving Forward in Faith and Joy
As we welcome the new year, we do so not with anxiety, but with faith. The apostle Paul gives us a forward-looking
