Meet The Host: Catina Wilson, Owner Of Atlanta Wellness Clinic

When Catina Wilson found herself huffing and puffing, unable to catch her toddler as she darted away in a crowded mall, something clicked. At 267 pounds with newly diagnosed high blood pressure and pre-diabetes, she faced a stark reality: would she be around to see her miracle baby grow up?

This pivotal moment launched a transformative journey that would not only result in Catina losing 80 pounds but also inspire her to create Atlanta Wellness Clinic. Her story mirrors what countless women experience—the frustrating cycle of weight loss and regain, the added challenges of having a baby at 46 while entering perimenopause, and the unexpected complications that life throws our way.

What makes Catina's approach unique is her understanding that successful weight management goes beyond just shedding pounds. The Atlanta Wellness Clinic offers medical weight loss programs alongside nutrition coaching, body scanning technology, muscle building, and body contouring services—all designed to help clients not only get healthy but look and feel their best in the process. Remember, the best time to start was yesterday—the second best time is right now.

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to the Atlanta Wellness Clinic podcast
Hosted by licensed nutritionistand clinic owner, katina Wilson.
We're here to kickstart yourweight loss journey Because,
let's be honest, the only thingwe want gaining weight is our
wallets.
From medical weight loss andnutrition coaching to body
contouring, we help MetroAtlanta women get real results.

(00:24):
Let's dive in.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Welcome everybody.
I'm Millie M, co-host andproducer here in the studio with
Katina Wilson.
How you doing, katina?
Hey, how are you, millie?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Doing well.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Over the years you've grown a remarkable following.
However, some listeners mightnot be familiar with your full
journey.
Let's take it from the top.
Could you share a little bit ofbackground about your company
and what you do?

Speaker 3 (00:57):
So I am the owner of the Atlanta Wellness Clinic and
we are here to help people notonly lose weight but get their
bodies healthy, get their bodiesstrong.
We want them to look good, wewant them to feel good, all
while doing it.
So a little bit about myjourney.
Like a lot of people, I havestruggled with my weight over
the years.

(01:17):
For me, it started when I wasin college.
Most folks you know they gainedthe freshman 15.
College most folks you knowthey gained the freshman 15.
For me, it was probablyfreshman 20, freshman 25.
And you know, and I've been onevery diet imaginable, right,
I've done low carb Atkins, I'vedone keto, I've done

(01:42):
intermittent fasting, I've evendone the extreme HCG.
I have had personal trainers, both men and both women.
I've done CrossFit and while Iwould lose the weight, I would
gain the weight.
Or I wouldn't lose that much,or I would try a diet.
It would work, I'd gain all theweight back and then some I'd
try it again and it wouldn'twork.
So I was on this roller coasterand things kind of came to a
head after I had my daughter.

(02:03):
I had my daughter at the age of46, and so having a child in
your 40s is already a challenge, just because for a lot of us,
myself included, you're startingto go through perimenopause and
those hormone fluctuationscertainly have a way of wreaking
havoc on any type of weightloss that you're trying to
achieve.
So factor that in.

(02:24):
And then COVID happens, unbeknownst to me.
When the world came to a stop,I apparently had developed COVID
, and for about a year thedoctors didn't know.
For about a year I was onsteroids, right.
So having a baby, you'realready gaining weight, and then
taking steroids.
I think I probably gained like30 pounds in a year.
Weight and then taking steroids.

(02:45):
I think I probably gained like30 pounds in a year.
And so at my heaviest I was at267 pounds.
Wasn't looking good, certainlywasn't feeling good.
One day I was out with mydaughter, and I'm 18 months old,
we're in the mall.
It was relatively crowdedbecause, you know, world is
starting to open up again.
She took our flight in and Icouldn't catch her.

(03:10):
I was huffing and puffing, andso not only was I embarrassed
and had a lot of shame, but it'slike you know what if there
were cars, you know?
And what if it was a moredangerous situation and as her
mother I couldn't protect her.
Then, maybe a few weeks later, had my annual physical and the
results came back and theyweren't good.
Never in my life had I had highblood pressure.
Now I had high blood pressure.
Never in my life had I been atrisk for diabetes.

(03:34):
Now the numbers are showingthat I'm pre-diabetic and I had
high cholesterol.
And so it was a journey for myhusband and I to have this child
, this miracle baby.
But now I'm in this situationand my health is so out of
control that am I going to bearound?
Right?
That was the question I keptasking myself.
Am I going to be around to seeher, to watch her grow up, to

(03:58):
watch her go to college, towatch her get married?
And so that's when I started myjourney.
It hasn't been an easy journey.
I'm down 80 pounds and I'vebeen down 80 pounds, you know,
for a few years now.
Congratulations and a lot ofpeople, friends, family, you
know strangers, they know mystory, they've heard my story

(04:19):
and they all ask what can I do?
I'm struggling.
You know I'm a woman of similarage.
You know, maybe they've beenactive but they're seeing the
weight creep up because of thehormones, or maybe they've just
had a baby and they'restruggling to get it off, or
just maybe they just struggledin general, like I have and so I
decided I wanted to help.

(04:41):
I wanted to help people be ableto lose the weight but also look
good while doing it.
So we opened up the AtlantaWallace Clinic.
Not only do we offer medicalweight loss, but we also offer
nutrition coaching andcounseling.
We offer body scanning, wherewe can look at everything from
percentage of your body fat, howmuch muscle you have, how much

(05:02):
fat you're losing, how manyinches you've lost all in a
15-second scan.
We also offer muscle buildingand body contouring, and so we
want to take a holistic approachto losing weight.
So again, for us it's importantto not only lose the weight so
that you can get healthy, but wewant people to look good as
well.
So that's my journey.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Awesome.
When you're not busy runningyour business, what do you do
for fun?

Speaker 3 (05:26):
I do love to read, I love to travel and I also love
to play golf.
I'm a fairly active always beenfairly active individual, so
those are the things that Ireally love to do, but that's
when I have time.
Most of the time I'm an uberdriver for my five-year-old,
getting her to her next playdate or her next activity.
You know I joke with my familyand friends and say you know,
this child has a better sociallife than I do.

(05:47):
Those are the kinds of thingsthat I do.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Busy moms can definitely relate, so we know
marketing is key to any business.
How do you market your business?

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Yeah, so right now we're doing a lot of digital
marketing, right?
So you know people are startingto see us more and more on
Facebook and Instagram and video.
You know there's word of mouth.
We're getting lots of referralsbecause people are having
success.
They're wanting to come inbecause they see their friends
and their family members arehaving success, and so we
absolutely appreciate all thosereferrals that we're getting as

(06:20):
well.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Absolutely so, Katina .
You are a very busy person, Inyour own words.
Why are you doing this?

Speaker 3 (06:28):
I just want to help women in particular, but I
really want to just help peoplebe able to get the weight off,
keep the weight off and again Ijust I want them to be their
healthiest selves, because Iknow what it's done for me, I
know how it's improved not onlymy life but my confidence, and I
just want to be able to do thatfor me.
I know how it's improved notonly my life but my confidence,
and I just want to be able to dothat for others.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Love it.
Katina, we'll catch you on thenext episode where we'll dive
into some frequently askedquestions.
Have a fantastic rest of yourday.
Thank you, millie, have a greatday.
