The Detox Connection: Why Lymphatic Support Is Key For Post-cryo & Overall Wellness

Ever wondered what happens to those frozen fat cells after cryotherapy? The answer lies in your lymphatic system—your body's internal sewage network that filters waste, toxins, and pathogens. Without proper support, this critical system can become sluggish, compromising your wellness results and leaving you feeling bloated, fatigued, and foggy.

Licensed nutritionist Catina Wilson breaks down the science of lymphatic health in practical terms anyone can understand. Unlike your circulatory system with its powerful heart pump, your lymphatic system relies entirely on muscle movement and proper hydration to function. When you undergo treatments like cryotherapy that intentionally damage fat cells, your lymphatic system becomes responsible for flushing those damaged cells out of your body—a process that can take days or weeks depending on how efficiently your system operates.

The good news? Supporting this crucial detoxification pathway doesn't require complicated protocols or expensive supplements. The cornerstone is proper hydration—drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water daily. Combine this with regular movement (even something as simple as a 15-minute session on a vibration plate) and plenty of water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumber, and citrus fruits. These straightforward approaches make lymphatic support accessible to everyone, regardless of where you are on your wellness journey.

Cryotherapy may freeze fat, but what happens
next?
Discover how lymphatic supportsupercharges detox and recovery
for lasting wellness.
Welcome back everyone.

Back in the studio withlicensed nutritionist and clinic
owner, katina Wilson.
Katina, how are you?
I'm great.
How are you today Doing well?
I'm so excited to dive intothis one.

(00:49):
Your insights on detox andlymphatic health always leave me
rethinking my self-care routine.
Can you explain the detoxconnection and why lymphatic
support is key for post-cryo andoverall wellness?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yes, thanks for having me.
So yeah, let's just jump rightin.
The lymphatic system is reallyour body's unsung hero.
It's often called the body'ssewage system or the drainage
system.
So, unlike our circulatorysystem, which has the heart, the
lymphatic system relies onmuscle contractions and movement
to circulate fluid or lymphthroughout the body, and it's a

(01:24):
vital part of our immune system, filtering waste products,
toxins and even pathogens.
So, for instance, we've talkedabout this before specifically,
it's like cryotherapy.
Cryotherapy, you know, we'refreezing the fat, we're damaging
those cells.
Well, those cells do what theyenter into the lymphatic system,
and so it's important to have aproperly functioning lymphatic

(01:47):
system, because, since weintentionally damage those cells
, we now want to get them toflush out of the system, and so
that's why, you know, when doinga service like cryotherapy,
having a great functioninglymphatic system is critically
important.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So it's true that when you're like losing weight,
you kind of tinkle it out.
Is that what happens?

Speaker 3 (02:09):
I mean ultimately.
Yes, that's what we're tryingto do, right, we're trying to
get it to get to the place whereyou can eliminate it For sure
Interestingly enough, you usethe term tinkle.
Having a healthy lymphaticsystem is also being very
hydrated.
So one of the things that wechat about with our with our
clients, is before you come intoyou know your visit for a cryo

(02:34):
session, drink at least oneliter of water.
Now, in general, you know whenwe're talking about hydration
and the importance of hydrationin general.
Each and every day, we shouldbe at least drinking at least
half of our body weight inounces of water, right, and so
hydration is probably the mostcritical part of having a
properly functioning lymphaticsystem.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Absolutely, and I was just talking to a friend of
mine about kind of tackling itfrom two different standpoints
actually drinking water and theneating very water-rich foods,
fruits like watermelon,cantaloupe, honeydew, tomatoes,
cucumbers, things like that, toget those All the things.
What are some signs thatsomeone's lymphatic system might
be sluggish or overwhelmed?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah, great question.
You know, cryotherapy aside, you know it's important to just
have a healthy lymphatic systemanyway and again, as I said
earlier, it helps with ourimmune system.
So how will you know?
You're probably retaining water, right, Because you know, as we
talked a few minutes ago aboutthe importance of hydration, if
your body can't release thosefluids, you're holding it in,

(03:40):
and so you tend to see it in apuffy face or puffy hands, puffy
feet, puffy ankles.
Right, that's generally likeone of the Right butting those
pants up.
Yeah, so bloating for sure,right?
So water retention, bloatingfor sure.
And even somebody who isgetting colds all the time or

(04:01):
they can't kick an illness, anillness that maybe should have
only lasted like a day or two,it's dragging on, and a lot of
it has to do with the fact thatyou know your lymphatic system
is moving very, very slow.
Brain fog is a contributingfactor to having an unhealthy
lymphatic system and even justfeeling tired, right, Because,
again, your body is workingextra hard to push out the

(04:23):
fluids, to push out the toxins, and so you just don't feel your
best self when you don't have ahigh functioning lymphatic
system.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
What about the nodes being swollen?
Are they tender and hurt whenthat happens to you?

Speaker 3 (04:36):
If that's happening, chances are you might have an
infection, right.
So that's something completelydifferent.
But that is a part of theimmune system, right, that is
certainly a part of it.
But when your nodes, a lot oftimes when you go to the doctor
and you're saying you don't feelvery well, and they start
feeling those nodes and they'retrying to see if there's pain
there, that tends to suggestthat there's some sort of

(04:57):
infection in the body.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Absolutely.
Are there specific foods orsupplements or habits that help
stimulate lymphatic flow?
I know you talked about stayinghydrated, but there are
specific foods and supplementsthat someone can take to keep
their lymphatic system flowingproperly.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Yeah, the best things that we tell our clinic
patients to do, first andforemost, water, right, that's
the number one thing that youcan do.
The other thing and we talkedabout it at the top of this
conversation is movement, right.
So any movement you can do, andit doesn't have to be 30
minutes in the gym or an hour inthe gym just doing things like
walking.
We like to use a vibrationplate.

(05:32):
We'll get people on a vibrationplate and no, no, I'm just
kidding.
Exactly, exactly.
They're super popular.
But even getting on a vibrationplate for 10 to 15 minutes, it
kind of shakes and stimulatesthe system and you've gotten
those micro contractions fromyour muscles because you're
trying to balance yourself, tokind of hang on.
Even something as simple as likea vibration plate can help.

(05:53):
But movement is probably thesecond best thing that you can
do.
And then certainly food.
So you mentioned the citrusfruits, right.
You talked about thewater-based fruits.
Water-based fruits andvegetables are certainly helpful
, but movement, water anddefinitely the right foods will

(06:14):
help improve you know, and getthat lymphatic system high
functioning.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
So for someone just starting on their wellness
journey, what is a simple firststep to support a detox Water?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Water, water is the number one thing.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Answer to every question in the world.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Well, I mean, but think about it.
I mean, most of our body ismostly made up of water.
The earth is mostly made up ofwater, right, water is
critically important and so, forthat reason, pure water, right.
Not water with your sweetenersand teas and sodas and things
like that.
Like pure water.
Now, if you want to flavor thewater, something like like with

(06:52):
a lemon, you know, or an orangeor a cucumber, right, that also
help with the detox, right, butwater is the number one thing
that you can do.
I mean, I can't emphasize thewater enough.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Gotcha, gotcha.
So any last thoughts that youwanted to share as far as the
cryo and how it supports thelymphatic system in any detoxing
tips that you have.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah, I mean the thing is is like, when it comes
to body contouring, body shaping, when it comes to cryotherapy,
it works, it really does work.
But you have to do your partRight, because again we're
getting in there, you know,we're damaging those fat cells
and now they're entering intoyour body, and so now it's your
job to get them out of your bodyas quickly as possible, and for

(07:31):
some people, you know, it couldtake a couple of days, for
others it could take a couple ofweeks.
But the key is having a highfunctioning lymphatic system.
Water can't stress that enough.
Drink water, definitely, stayhydrated.
Movement, you know so any andall movement that you can do is
helpful.
And then eating clean as muchas possible, so getting those
fruits and those vegetables inyour diet as well simple, not

(07:54):
always easy.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
We really appreciate you breaking down the science in
such a practical way.
It just sounds like drink waterand mind your business.
I know the listeners arewalking away with real tools and
we'll see you next time formore wellness wisdom.
Thank you.
