(00:24):
Let's dive in.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Losing weight is an
incredible achievement, but for
many, stubborn fat or loose skincan still be a challenge.
Body contouring offers a way torefine your body and enhance
your weight loss results, buthow does it work exactly?
Welcome back Millie M, co-hostproducer, back in the studio
with licensed nutritionist andclinic owner, katina Wilson.
Katina, how are you?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Hey, good to see you
again.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Good to see you as
well, can you please fill
everyone in, including myselfwhat is body contouring and how
does it enhance weight loss?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, so body
contouring is really just a.
It's a range of cosmeticprocedures really designed to
kind of reshape and improve theappearance of the body.
So you know I have a clinic andwe do primarily focus on, like
medical weight loss.
You know, we have lots ofpatients that lose weight very,
very quickly and sometimes weget people where the weight
(01:24):
doesn't come off exactly likewhere they want it to come off,
right.
We'll have women come in andsay like I really want to lose
weight in my stomach, but ofcourse they start to lose it
everywhere else.
Or some people lose, you know,so much weight they actually end
up having a bit of excess skin, right.
So body contouring, there aredifferent technologies out there
.
We here we have.
So body contouring, there aredifferent technologies out there
(01:44):
.
We here, we have devices thathave both what's called EMS and
RF technologies.
So EMS stands for electricalmuscle stimulation and RF stands
for radio frequency, and so wehave a device that actually does
both, and so with EMS itactually builds muscle, right.
So we've talked about otherpodcasts like the importance of
(02:05):
weightlifting, the importance ofbuilding muscles.
Well, we actually have a devicethat can help.
The technology uses electricalimpulses to stimulate muscle
contractions.
So for us, like when you sitwith our device, in 20 to 30
minutes you could do theequivalent of 20,000 crunches.
Can't do that on your own, butyou could do the equivalent of
20,000 crunches.
Can't do that on your own, butyou could do the equivalent of
(02:26):
20,000 crunches.
Now the first question peopleask is like, oh my gosh, like
does that hurt?
No, because with a lot of thesebody contouring tools, including
the one that we have, not onlyis it stimulating the muscle,
but then it's also breaking downthe lactic acid, and the lactic
acid is what makes you feelthat soreness and stiffness
after you've done a really heavyworkout.
So that part is electricalmuscle stimulation helping you
(02:50):
build muscle, whether it's yourglutes, your quads, your abs,
your arms.
It allows you to help to startto build that muscle.
Radiofrequency is another typeof technology, and that
technology uses heat to targetthe deeper layers of your skin.
So with that heat not only isit starting to burn fat, but
(03:11):
it's also stimulating collagenproduction, which will naturally
start to tighten the skin.
So we actually have a deviceagain that not only does the
muscle building, but then italso does the targeted fat
burning and the skin tighteningright, and so that combined
effect, you know, gives you thatkind of tight-toned physique
(03:32):
that a lot of people are lookingfor, and so that's where kind
of body contrary comes into play.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
So tell me what are
the benefits of using that
radiofrequency treatment for theskin tightening?
I guess the other alternativewould be surgery, right?
Speaker 3 (03:46):
If you want to take
that extreme approach, you could
.
For some people, if they lose alot of weight and you've heard
about people who lose, you know, like 100 pounds or more and
they have that excess skinthat's just hanging.
A body contouring tool is notgoing to tighten that up, so
that individual would be acandidate for some sort of
surgery.
So that individual would be acandidate for some sort of
surgery.
However, the device that wehave could be used even before
(04:09):
the surgery to help build thatmuscle, build that strength
underneath, Because once they'vehad the surgery, you know
they're going to be down for abit and so you could start to
kind of like do that baseline.
So the benefit of the RFtechnology is for people who
have, you know, whether it'swomen who've had babies, or
you've lost some weight and younotice you know you've got like
(04:29):
some loose skin.
The benefit is, as I saidearlier, is not only is it going
to give you that targeted fatburning so you know if your
stomach is bothering you, it'sgoing to give you that targeted
fat burning or, like for me,it's thighs.
It will burn the fat naturallyand then it'll also build that
collagen and so you start to seeyour skin firm up over a period
of weeks.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Makes sense.
So you were saying those arethe type of people who would be
ideal candidates.
Maybe moms, people who havelost a little bit of weight,
just want to target certainareas.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Oh yeah, absolutely
Absolutely.
And again, if the skin is whatwe would call kind of hanging
probably not the best candidate, you know, but the devices are
extremely helpful and theycompliment people who are on a
weight loss journey.
And so again, with our device, over a period of like six
sessions, you really can seelike up to 20% muscle growth.
(05:17):
You really can start to see adefinition.
Like for me, I'm getting readyfor the summer and I'm like you
know what I want?
To tighten up my stomach.
I'm on my fourth session andI'm already seeing defined abs
right and tighten up thighs.
It's a great device.
There are differenttechnologies out there, but the
technology that we have in ourclinic has both the EMS as well
as the RF technology, so you'regetting not only the muscle
(05:39):
building but you're also gettingthe targeted fat burning and
the skin tightening as well.
So it all goes together.
Summer body's loading I love it.
Yes, so we got to get ready forthose vacations, right?
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Have to have to.
We got to look good in thosebathing suits when we're
traveling.
So let's talk about fatfreezing.
I can't even pronounce thisword, can you do?
Speaker 3 (06:01):
that for me.
Cryolipolysis yeah, so cry.
Cryolipolysis yeah, socryolipolysis.
So it's another form of a bodycontouring, except it freezes
the fat.
So in both cases, whetheryou're melting the fat or you're
freezing it, you are going tohave to have some sort of
lymphatic drainage over time toflush it away.
And so we also have a tool whereit targets specific pockets of
(06:23):
fat, and so the cryo is veryeffective for localized kind of
fat freezing or fat burning.
So it's good for like lovehandles or belly fat or thigh
fat, that sort of a thing.
Cryo is also great and I usethis myself because not too long
ago I injured my shoulder.
It's also great for quick kindof targeted relief when it comes
(06:46):
to pain, and so what ends uphappening is like the cryo it is
so cold, right, the bloodrushes to that area, and so it's
ready to like heal that area, and so you reduce the
inflammation much faster thanhealing on your own.
Cryotherapy also is a mechanismfor reducing not only body fat
(07:08):
and those stubborn areas.
So it's another tool for bodycontouring.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Love that.
So you're going to eat, right, you're going to get in the gym,
you're going to have those comesee you in your clinic for those
that medical weight loss andthen you're going to contour
your body.
It's a full system.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
It is a full system
and that's what's important to
us.
We obviously want people to gethealthy, but we want them to
look and feel good as well, sowe try to cover it all.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Absolutely.
Thank you so much and we'llcatch you on the next episode,
All right.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Take care, thank you.
