Andrew Shail returns to discuss his pandemic odyssey through all things Star Trek with Paula Blair. Be warned, we do not hold back on (possibly misremembered) plot details!

Topics:

  • Series discussed: The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery
  • Series mentioned: Short Treks, The Animated Series, Lower Decks, Picard, Strange New Worlds, Prodigy
  • Films discussed and mentioned: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991), Star Trek Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998), Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Star Trek Beyond (2016)
  • aliens, allegory, gender, sexuality, nationality, race, language, family
  • streaming, consumption, lockdowns, viewing habits, late-in-life Trekkie
  • actors, directors, music, podcasts, main cast
  • ranking the captains: (in no particular order) Picard, Janeway, Kirk, Saru, Pike, Sisko with mentions of Burnham and Lorca
  • story arcs
  • prosthetic make-up, acting, recurring guest stars

Please note, we were quite excited while recording and will have missed clarifying some things. For example when referring to Tuvok as the first Vulcan main character, we mean since Spock and are referring to the ‘Next Gen’ block of series. There are also some descriptions of nationalities that will come across as stereotypical; these are not our views, but a description of the ways alien species allegorise perceptions of ethnic or racial constructions in the shows.
