(02:21):
Autopsy of a Crime. Thank you guys for tuning in.
There have been some massive document drops in the Idaho case
and we're going to go over it. I did a very brief post last
night on sub Stack recounting, you know, kind of the newest
(02:42):
things that have come out. But I definitely wanted to get a
podcast episode out going over everything.
And I know since the last episode, we at that time only
had a portion of the 911 call. And of course, since then the
the full thing has come out and we're going to go over that as
(03:04):
well. First, I want to just point out
the sub stack. If you guys have not been over
and taken a look or if you're not subscribed, please go do
that. There is now a sub stack for the
podcast and that is Autopsy of acrime.substack.com and what
(03:28):
you're going to find there is episode source material for
every episode that goes up. There will be photos, documents,
links. Anything that I reference in an
episode will be in the source material post for that episode,
and I've also created a dedicated section on sub stack
(03:53):
specifically for all coverage ofthe Idaho case.
I really struggle with, you know, the way to reference this
in the way to title things because I want to put the
emphasis on the victims. I don't care to further his who
(04:15):
we should not name or further his photos that are out there
everywhere. I really want to focus on the
victims, Kaylee, Maddie, Zanna and Ethan.
So I do struggle with, you know, how to name the Substack post,
how to name the podcast episodes, things like that.
(04:37):
I really want to focus more so on the victims and their memory
and of course be respective, respectful to their friends and
their family because they they could come across this.
And I of course want to be respectful.
So Sub Stack will have episode source material over there at
(05:00):
for every episode. And then we have a dedicated
section for Idaho, and then any other posts that go up will be
just within the main archive andthe main page.
And I've done a little somethingnew over there.
We also have a section titled Rabbit Holes for the things that
(05:21):
I researched late at night when I'm laying in bed, like MK
Ultra, which was a project wherethe CIA was using LSD and
different things to try and brainwash and mind control
people. It was also used on our military
at one point in the US. Some of the subjects did not
(05:44):
know that they were being experimented on.
Also covering the JFK files overthere.
So if that's something that you're into, make sure you head
over and check it out. Please subscribe and every post,
whether it's source material, anything, it's all delivered
directly to your e-mail inbox. Easy breezy, beautiful cover
(06:05):
girl. So we're going to get into these
documents. And if you guys aren't aware,
the State of Idaho Judicial Branch has a website and all of
the orders, motions, everything that is filed for this trial is
uploaded to this site. Now.
A lot of it is redacted, a lot of it is just motions, but the
(06:29):
information that is now coming out is because of this website
and that is linked on the on theAutopsy of a Crime sub stack.
And I'll link it for the source material for this episode as
well. And before we get into it, I
(06:53):
have to share with you guys. I don't know if you guys are
familiar with who Cheryl Mack McCollum is.
She is an Emmy Award winner of CSI Atlanta National Law
Enforcement officer Hall of Fame, director of the CCIRI.
She is an expert that is often on the Nancy Grace show and she
(07:15):
also has a podcast called Zone 7.
First heard about her, learned about her on the Nancy Grace
show. I live adore Cheryl McCallum.
Now Cheryl and I will add this to the source material for this
episode as well. 14 hours ago. I'm looking at it right now.
(07:39):
Instagram Cheryl McCullum posts a photo of a sort of mask and
says Brian Koburger's purchase at Dick's Sporting Goods.
Exclamation mark, Exclamation mark.
As I have said over and over, not a criminal mastermind.
So I'm going to share with you guys this photo.
I did see in some of these motions that they did get a
(08:03):
warrant for some camera footage at various places and it is
stated that they have a Dick's receipt that is something that
was removed from his home in theearly days.
But even this just, it just tickled my fancy and I have to
share it. I commented on this post and I
said this is precisely as Dylan said and you guys, Cheryl
(08:33):
responded, she responded and we love that.
I just wanted to share. She is amazing.
If you're not familiar, please go follow her.
Check out her podcast, we stand Cheryl McCollum forever.
OK, without further ado, the latest sort of drop.
(09:00):
And all of this makes me wonder why there was a gag order just
for 2 1/2 years later the the stuff is coming out and the
trial has not even began yet. But nonetheless, we have it.
(09:21):
So this is a more in depth report and recounting of the
interviews given by the surviving roommate Dylan
Mortensen. So that this states that she was
interviewed on scene outside of the 1122 King Rd. residence and
(09:43):
she stated that she saw a male quote, not insanely tall,
wearing all black and a mask that was just covering his
forehead and mouth. He was a little bit taller than
me. I couldn't really see much of
him. I'm almost positive he was
wearing a full black outfit and he had this mask that was just
(10:06):
over his forehead and over his mouth.
At that time, she also repeated that he had a mask.
He was an inch or two taller than her, saying, quote,
basketball player, kind of skinny, and he had a voice that
she did not recognize. Later that same day at 1:47 PM,
(10:32):
she was interviewed at the Moscow Police Department and she
recounted that she saw a white male that she did not know,
Quote, maybe my height, a few inches taller, skinny, athletic
build, wearing all black, wearing this mask that covers
just his forehead. And here she reported, I'm 510,
(10:59):
so probably around 6 foot. She also went on to say, quote,
I don't remember his eyes. I don't remember what his eyes
looked like either. I didn't recognize eyes, but
definitely a white guy. Four days later on November
17th, 2022, DM was interviewed by Idaho State Police and she
(11:26):
gave a detailed recounting of what she did on Saturday,
November 12th, 2022 until she went to bed at approximately
3:20 AM on Sunday, November 13th, 2022.
She went on to state that sometime between 4:00 AM and
4:20 AM she woke up and heard a male's voice that she did not
(11:50):
recognize say quote, it's OK, I'm going to help you.
End Quote. She then opened her door and saw
someone and she says, 'cause it from my mind, it's like I was
almost wearing blurry glasses like it's fuzzy and cloudy, but
(12:15):
it was like a figure of someone wearing all black and it was
like they had a ski mask that was covering their forehead and
their mouth. But I could see the All I
remember was seeing eyebrows andI don't I don't remember what
(12:38):
their eyes looked like, but I remember their eyebrows.
I don't remember them or what color the eyebrows were.
I just remember like bushy eyebrows.
That's all I could think about. She goes on to say I don't know,
(13:06):
weird looking ski mask, it wasn't like the regular ski mask
with like eyes and you know, because I saw his eyebrows and I
could, I think I saw his nose and like this part of his face
but I don't know. Detective Gooch asked DM if she
(13:29):
knew what a Balakavla was and showed her a picture in
response. In addressing whether she could
see the male's mouth, DM noted. No, I don't remember if I saw
it. Like I don't remember if I saw
his nose, but I know I saw eyebrows and I don't remember
his eyes. I just feel like I can see
(13:51):
eyebrows. But I mean that could be it.
I mean, that would make sense why the forehead was covered and
this part of his face was covered.
The investigators inquired if DMcould provide a composite
sketch. DM responded no, I don't
remember what his eyes looked like.
(14:11):
I don't remember what his nose looked like.
I just remember eyebrows. I don't know exactly what the
eyebrows looked like at all really.
I just remember thinking like eyebrows.
Yeah, bushy, but that's all. Like, I don't remember the
shape. I don't remember like the color.
(14:33):
I just remember like, bushy eyebrows.
That's the only thing I can remember.
She was then asked more about the ski mask and she says I
couldn't see any of his hair butI remember just like seeing like
almost a rectangle. It was rectangular because I
(14:56):
remember seeing just like I don't know how to explain it
just seeing like this. Maybe I'd be able to see like a
cross but I don't remember seeing his eyes but I feel like
his eyes were there. I could just see like an
eyebrow. I feel like that's how I know he
saw me because I could see his eyebrow.
Like if I can see his eyebrow hecan see me.
(15:20):
DM then reiterated From what I remember I think he was like
just like walking past that little little wall and going
towards the kitchen and I don't know like I just remember seeing
an eyebrow. I don't know why I just see one.
It was just like 1 bushy eyebrow.
(15:41):
I don't remember the color, likethe full shape, I just remember
it being bushy. She described his clothing
again, stating he was wearing black long sleeves, black pants,
and black boots. DM drew the mask for the
interviewer while drawing. She gave a consistent
(16:03):
description of the mask and noted the eyebrows quote.
I don't remember if I saw one ortwo, like it was just weird.
On December 29th, 2022, Brian Koburger was arrested in
Albrightsville, PA. The following day, on December
30th, 2020, two 47 days after her first interview, DM was
(16:25):
interviewed by Idaho State Police again.
She was asked about Brian Koburger.
They asked DM, have you seen a picture of Mr. Koburger?
She responded. Yeah, I looked him up today when
I found out regarding what pictures she saw, she stated
(16:47):
I've seen the mug shot on with the vest thing.
I think the interviewer asked this Brian Koeberger, the purse.
Is this Brian Koeberger, the person that you saw in this mug
shot, is that the person you sawin your house?
DM responded I have no clue fromwhat I remember.
(17:09):
I just remember seeing this figure that was like not that
obviously but more of like the skinnier tone build and some
mask on. I don't know what the mask
exactly was but when I thought about it, it was just like
covering here and here. I don't know if it was covering
his mouth, his nose, or below his mouth and nose.
(17:34):
I just remember knowing that he was white, but I didn't know how
I knew he was white. I just knew he was.
And this knowing there's like I knew he had looked at me because
of the bushy eyebrow. That's all I remember.
But I have no idea what he looked like.
I don't like when I looked at his picture, nothing came back
(17:57):
to me at all. So that like, I don't know.
I feel like if I saw that my mind would be like, Oh yeah,
that's him, but it's just, I don't remember at all.
So that is the more extensive documents that have come out
(18:20):
with DM in the interviews that she provided to police.
Something else interesting that I found in all of the motions in
the filings is as we know they're they're really attacking
(18:40):
the bushy eyebrows. They don't want it mentioned
during trial the defense. But there is this one item I
found where there is just a ton of different communications
listed. And let me see if I can let you
guys know if you want to look this up.
And I'll also attach it to the sub stack show notes.
(19:04):
This is State's reply to defendants objection to motion
and Lamine Lamine regarding textmessages and testimony.
And this is 6 pages long and there's a lot of communication
(19:26):
here that we didn't know about before.
DM interacting with an Uber driver.
DM created a new contact in her phone.
This was at 351 AM 4:20 AM. She tries to call Zanna for 20
(19:49):
AM and 20 seconds. She tries to call Kaylee for 20
and 28 seconds. She calls Bethany for 41
seconds. It's also got text messages,
phone calls, outgoing messages, Snapchat data.
(20:10):
So this is a very comprehensive list of various communications.
It also says at 4:34 AM Bethany Funk accessed Snapchat and then
4:37 AM she accessed Instagram. So yeah, I will link this as
(20:34):
well on the show notes for the episode.
And then let's go over that 911 call.
I will of course, say listener discretion is advised.
They're very upset. It is my belief that Hunter
(20:58):
Johnson found XANA and perhaps Ethan as well during this 911
call. So this is this is sensitive
material. It is upsetting.
So I just want to give you guys a heads up before I play that
and we're going to, I'm going toplay that for you guys right
(21:19):
now. Five AM 42 second November 13,
2022 I don't know on location ofthe emergency.
What is the address of the emergency 1122?
(21:47):
What is the rest of the address?0 Kingston Rd.
OK, and is that a house or an apartment?
Get the house. Can you repeat the address to
make sure that I have it right? I'll talk to you guys.
We're we live at the white, so we're next to them.
I need someone to repeat the address for verification.
(22:08):
So the address 1122 king rug. And what's the phone number that
you're calling from? What's your phone number?
And tell me exactly what's goingon.
(22:28):
One of our one of the roommates has passed out and she was drunk
last night. And she don't wake me up.
OK. Oh, and they saw some man in
their house last night. Yeah.
Hi. Just.
And are you with the patient? OK.
I need someone to keep the phone.
Stop passing it around. Can I just tell you what
happened? Pretty much what is going on
(22:51):
currently. Is someone passed out right now?
I don't really know, but pretty much at 4:00 AM.
OK. I need to know what's going on
right now. If someone is passed out, can
you find that out? Yeah, I'll come.
Come on. But let me go check what we have
to. She's not waking up OK one
(23:35):
moment. I'm getting help started that
way. OK, and how old is she?
(24:20):
She's 20, 20. You said she has 20 here, too.
OK. Hello.
Hello. OK.
I need someone to stop passing the phone around because I've
talked to four different people.Sorry.
They just gave me the phone. Is she breathing?
(24:40):
Hello. Is she breathing?
No. OK.
I can't. Talk.
Hello. OK, I've already sent the
(25:01):
ambulance and law enforcement stay on the line.
If there is a defibrillator available, send someone to get
it now and tell me when you haveit.
Say that again. There's a point here right now.
OK. If there's a defibrillator
available, send someone to get it now and tell me when you have
it. Did you have a defibrillator?
(25:24):
Yes. Do you have one?
Are you talking to the officer? Yes.
OK. I'm going to let you go since
he's there with you and can helpyou.
OK, Thank you. Bye.
OK, 11/15. So that is the 911 call in its
entirety. I've gone over this in previous
(25:47):
episodes, but you know, there was so much confusion around,
well, my gosh, why is there no mention of blood, etcetera,
etcetera. I stand beside my theory that
the surviving roommates had not gone to investigate.
They had not seen this. I think Hunter Johnson discovers
(26:08):
Xana and Ethan during the call and it if you could listen very
closely, right before Dylan begins to hyperventilate, it
sounds like someone screams out and then you can hear Hunter say
get out, get out, get out. I think he protected these girls
from that horrific scene and didn't tell them what he had
(26:33):
seen. And also he protected them.
But we also now know, too, that they immediately got out of the
house. And it's so important to
preserve a crime scene. And so this 911 call would also
lead a reasonable person to think that the scene was not
(26:55):
very disturbed at all. They did.
They weren't touching things. You know, there was no cross
contamination. And it also, I think from this
call that they only at that point had found Zanna and Ethan
and did not proceed up to the third floor where Kaylee and
Maddie were. But because they weren't
(27:17):
answering, likely knew somethingwas very wrong and something had
happened to them as well. And then I also want to share
with you guys, Kaylee Guncalvis's father, Steve
Guncalvis went on News Nation after this 911 audio was
(27:38):
released and gave an interview. And so I'm going to play that
for you guys as well that. He was able to open the door to
Zanna's room and witness Zanna and Ethan in there.
He told me that he was having. He went to the door and he was
(27:58):
trying to go through that door and he was trying to figure out
what was going on in there. It's kind of like what you're
here with that audio. He announced himself.
He said, hey, I'm here, what's going on?
But they didn't respond and he went in there, he seen
something. And I think around 2:15, you
(28:20):
hear when somebody truly sees something like you gotta
remember, there's blankets, there's covers, there's the bed.
So this person, they, they couldhave totally been covered up to
where you just flipped that blanket over.
And now I'll say you understand the impact of what really,
really happened. They're not sleeping anymore.
They're the, it is what it is. And you hear kind of like a, a
(28:43):
roar, like a painful roar. And I think that's what was
going on. But that's just me.
That's just my interpretation ofof, of the same call that you
guys are analyzing. I talked to Hunter directly and
it sucks. He had a broken soul.
Like this is a man who's seen his best friend dead and.
(29:07):
That's that is just devastating. So I know so many questions have
been raised about these roommates and that they're
suspicious and everything. I think so many people owe these
girls an apology. Last I checked, they've all
deleted their social media. Both of the surviving roommates.
(29:28):
That is just everyone needs to lay off these girls.
And then when I was going over those documents and it says that
Bethany, not Bethany Dylan, Dylan drew what she believed
this mask looked like. That's going back to that photo
that I shared that Cheryl McCullum posted today.
(29:50):
That will be on the source material on Sub Stack for this
episode. According to Cheryl McCullum,
which I think she probably has some access that the general
public does not have due to her extensive career in law
enforcement. She says that this mask is
exactly what Dylan drew. So take take that as you will.
(30:17):
And I know Mr. Goncalves mentions it mentions, you know,
there's bedding. They could have been covered up.
I personally, and this is just completely speculative.
This is just my theory that justthat photo of the exterior and
the blood running down the foundation of the home.
I believe that Xana or Ethan onewas on the floor because it, it
(30:43):
stands to reason a mattress, butabsorb all of all of the blood.
And it it seems to be that people are gathering that there
was trouble getting into Xana's room.
And I'm speculating that the trouble may have been that
(31:04):
someone was on the floor in front of that door.
And then one other thing I want to share with you guys.
There is a creator on TikTok. The username is London's
notebook. She has very respectfully and
very thoroughly covered this case.
(31:28):
So she has a new update video aswell as of today, March 27th,
that new stuff we have so crime scene, paper weapon, knife
victim, female, etcetera. So I'm going to play that for
you guys also as. I told you that in May of 2020,
(31:50):
Brian Koburger turned in a paperthat was a part of his
criminology degree at the sales that had to explain his
knowledge in the inner workings of crime scene investigative
processing. And what if I told you if that
said document of 13 pages was included in the recent case
document done by the prosecution?
Now, why would the prosecution want to show Brian Koburger's
(32:13):
criminology educational understanding of how one would
process a crime scene? Well, in about 10 minutes, I'm
going to be going live on the channel here and we're going to
be reading these 13 pages and going over this.
If you can't make it to the live, don't worry, I will load
that live to my YouTube channel,London's Notebook.
The link is in the bio. I don't know about you, but I
(32:34):
don't believe in coincidences. Kalinka.
Thanks. That's what I call them.
But in this paper, Brian makes his victim a 35 year old female.
And guess what type of weapon Brian selects?
A knife. Do you think that that's a
(32:54):
Kalinka dink? Or do you think that it's
foreshadowing if I told you? So there we have that as well,
which is interesting. And then also we found out early
on that one of Brian's sisters had been in a sort of slasher
(33:14):
type movie. People have deeped up that as
well. I'm not going to quite get into
it. I just feel I don't have enough
information yet to it it link any way to this case and the
trial. However, I did see when browsing
through some of these documents that have been uploaded to the
(33:37):
Idaho Judicial Branch that it isvery possible Brian's family is
going to be called in to testify.
So there's that. They've also uploaded proposed
jury questionnaire. They've requested several
exhibits and such be sealed. And then of course, as I've
(34:02):
mentioned and it's all over, youknow, they're trying to have the
death penalty removed. There's also some motions in
here to remove the death penaltydue to this new claim of autism
spectrum disorder. And then there is psychiatric
(34:23):
evidence. I'm not sure if he perhaps had a
psycho valve done since he's been incarcerated.
And then also I it's just as thecreator for London's notebook
mentioned all of these coincidences.
He's studying this now. We know he wrote a paper about
this. The weapon he chose for this
(34:44):
story was a knife. The victim was a woman and and
then also he studied under the woman who had very intimate ties
with BTK and wrote books about him.
(35:05):
And another thing I've noticed lately with some of these
hearings that have gone on, he looks frail, like he's not
eating very much. And I just again, purely
speculative, I can't help but wonder, given his knowledge of
(35:28):
criminology and probably different cases, cases he's
studied, the serial killers he has studied, I wonder if he is
not attempting a Ted Bundy thingwhere Ted Bundy intentionally
starved himself to appeal, appear in court as though he is
(35:53):
frail, not strong. And it also alters his
appearance as to what a witness would describe him as.
It's something to think about. I'm going to close this episode
out with that. Thank you guys very much for
(36:14):
listening. And again, head over to Autopsy
of a crime.substack.com. I will link it in the show
episode description below. Subscribe.
You can get all episode source material sent directly to your
e-mail and any other items. Sometimes if it's not enough to
(36:37):
put into a podcast episode, it'll go up as an individual
post on sub Stack and you can get that directly to your e-mail
as well. Thank you guys for listening.
I hope you all stay well and stay safe until next time.
I will talk to you guys later.
