Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, I'm
your host, the Gentle Yoga
Warrior, and this is season 19of Awaken Conscious
Conversations podcast, and as Ispeak to you, we've had blustery
weather.
The leaves are falling, so it'sa time of fall, this autumnal
energy, and the winter is on itsway and, as I often say, this
(00:22):
is an international podcast, sosome places, your spring summer
is on its way.
Either way, we are going tohave a magical, fantastic
podcast for you today, joiningme next week.
I'm very excited about thisguest.
I'm currently reading theirtheir book and I'm taking a lot
(00:43):
of inspiration from it.
We were joined by Cody Dees andwe're going to talk about
anxiety, the language of thesoul and, if so, how can it help
you.
So that is that.
That will come out this timenext week.
I'm recording it in a couple ofdays as we come into this time
of autumn, and I can't wait tohave this conversation.
(01:06):
I'm currently enjoying Cody'sbook and there will be more
information on the podcast nextweek.
For today's show, we are warmingup for this wonderful autumnal
season and you know that somepeople can get really affected
by the change of the seasons.
I've spoken to so many peoplethat find it really hard and
(01:30):
this season we're going to havesome wonderful magical guests on
the show.
It's a time for like cozydrinks, cozy clothes, and if
it's springtime it's a time forkind of nice spring walks.
But it's going to be lots ofleaves falling here and there's
(01:50):
been a lot of rain and I hadsome lovely guys come to fix my
roof earlier and the house isquite old, it's about 200 years
old, 200 years plus old.
So, as you can imagine, it'squite an old cottage and they
had to go like on the roof and Iwas doing my work and I just
(02:12):
heard, like this, laughter andgiggles and basically, just to
cut a long story short, thewater butt had.
It was really full where wecollect the water to water the
garden because we've had a lotof rain, we've literally gone
from summer to having a lot ofrain.
Well, anyway, it kind of backedup with leaves.
So when they tried to clear itit kind of the water book kind
(02:33):
of exploded a bit and then alllike the gunk and then water
went all over them apparently.
But they were like laughing andlike kind of seeing the the
funny, the funny side of it, andthankfully, since it is winter,
they managed to clear it, butit was, yeah, you know, like
sometimes we know.
It made me think about how weknow, our ability to have humor,
(02:55):
laughter and to see the the thebright side of things.
I remember reading this truebiography many years ago called
Angela's Ashes, and even thoughthe main character had a really
difficult kind of childhood, they could find moments, as an
author, to put some humor ininto that, and I think that's
(03:18):
sometimes when young peoplelaugh and other people think, oh
, that's in an appropriate time.
I think sometimes it's a, it'sa mechanism to help us, help us
through that difficulty that wesometimes have in life.
And at the moment I'm feelingvery, very tired and I don't
have my normal kind of likeenergy that I normally have, but
(03:39):
I put it down to my age andalso the changing of the seasons
and after I record this podcastI'm going to really factor in
some self-care.
Yes, I've got a to-do list.
There's things people need toreply to, there's a whole lot of
stuff that I need to read, butsometimes one has to listen to
(04:00):
how one is feeling and today myenergy levels aren't like this
fantastic, sparkly high level.
But what I did was, after Ifinished my morning's work.
I went and the roofers had been.
I went for a nice walk aroundlike a country park and even
though it's starting to rain I'mstill going out.
So I put my waterproofs on andI just had a fantastic time.
(04:23):
I managed to sit underneath atree and very marginally get wet
and it made me feel a bit morenourished and then it gave me
the energy to come and sharethis podcast with you, because
it gives me a lot of joy to dothis.
But then I thought I'm going tofactor in after this to do some
self-care, to factor in afterthis to do some self-care.
(04:49):
So I'm going to do some slowyin yoga to kind of really help
my nervous system, my adrenals, where I think it's been a bit of
kind of go, go, go recently, and I always wonder how, what
would you factor in to helpyourself?
Like, sometimes we have gotcommitments.
I completely understand that wecan't kind of cancel, but we
can kind of find ways to kind ofchange things.
Like there's a part of me thatreally want to go to like
(05:11):
kettlebells, lifting weights andthings.
But the way my body is today isnot the right thing for it to
be.
It's difference between, likeprocrastinating, thinking I'll
do it tomorrow.
I'll do it tomorrow, whereastoday I'm really listening to my
body and it made me think aboutsomething which I shared before
, about being versus doing, anddoing, I think, has the word
(05:35):
should, I should or I should do.
This is sewn into doing, whereasbeing is when we listen to our
innate wisdom and we understandthat sometimes we need to be.
You know, we've got yin andyang, we've got the masculine
(05:55):
and feminine energies in eachand every one of us and it's
kind of finding those, thoseways to balance that.
The yang is a lot of what welive in these days, where we're
trying to go for things which weneed.
But then there's the yin, andwhen I allow myself to be versus
doing, I'm more receptive.
(06:16):
I'm able to kind of see thewood for the trees, as the
cliche but true saying goes.
And and it's just sometimes itfeels like when I'm doing too
much and I push myself, when Iget to this level of tiredness
(06:36):
which only happens a couple oftimes a year, but I notice it
when I get to this level oftiredness, if I ignore it and I
just keep on pushing and doing, then I'll get sick or something
like that and it feels like thebeing is that kind of wisdom we
can tap into when we're kind ofchasing so much and we feel like
(07:00):
we're not getting anywhere.
But then we're gettingexhausted with it and instead we
find the being, because we racethrough our lives thinking I'll
be happy when I do this, I'llbe happy when I do this, like
sometimes I'll say to myself, oh, I can have this small bar of
chocolate once I've done this, this and this, and I guess
(07:22):
that's not a bad thing sometimesif in moderation.
But if I'm living my whole lifethinking, oh, I'm not going to
allow myself to have any fununtil I'm a success.
Well, who measures success?
And sometimes things seem hardand then they, because actually
they're a gift.
And then sometimes things seemeasy and actually they're not.
(07:44):
They're a curse, not an a curselike your curse, but more like,
oh, actually this isn't the thebest thing.
But then we can live in.
Sometimes when we think, oh,because things are going good,
we get a bit down because wethink things are going to go bad
.
But the thing is, life is a islike a ripple.
You know it's going to be anddepending on how we sit on the
(08:07):
raft of that ripple.
We can even be really stubbornand think no, I want to go
against the flow, whichsometimes we have to do.
But all the time going againstthe flow and not listening to
how we're feeling and beingisn't the ideal way of being.
And you know, the energy ofnature is the biggest and most
(08:30):
beautiful spotlight into beingand in that nature cascades a
sort of a deep healing energy.
If only we would a appreciateher and b spend more time in her
.
And when I was a child, youwould open the window in the
summer and then, if you had alight on, your room would be
(08:52):
full of insects.
We need to try and bring morenature towards us, not push it
away.
And of course you may not wantloads of insects in your house,
but can you make a hotel so thatthey can flourish in your
garden?
And if you don't have a garden, can you still make a hotel so
they can flourish in your littlepots and things like that?
(09:13):
Being can feel bumpy too whenyou feel like you're not feeling
so good.
Maybe you're going throughthings like the menopause or
pregnancy or any kind of thingthat you're going through, any
(09:34):
kind of thing that you're goingthrough.
Sometimes being is difficult, especially like if you're being
at a time where you've had somesad news and there's no quick
fix to get one out of thatfeeling and grief is a very
difficult thing and it and itcomes and goes.
Sometimes you, such as youthink you've kind of overcome it
, it can come back on like themost, I don't know, least
(09:55):
obvious things sometimes.
But my, my tip for when you'retrying to be, but things aren't
so easy is, if they're reallyhard, then maybe you should do
something that's going to makeyou feel better.
So that's what I'm not sayingall doing is bad, but when
you're being or doing, can youfind something that you're
(10:16):
grateful for, even if it's likea horrible time, like maybe if
you had some sad news, butyou're grateful for the hot cup
of tea that your relative hasgiven to you, or the the touch
of your bath towel as you have ashower.
You know, it's just this tinylittle little things and in this
time of austerity the abundanceand the sign of feeling
(10:39):
prosperous is going to come, come from nature it's, it's the
way over this kind of verydifficult time worldwide for so
many people.
And if you're not having adifficult time.
Please also don't feel guilty.
You know we all go throughtimes where difficult and
sometimes things are going wellas well.
(11:00):
So what blessings can we feeland connect and how can we
really listen to what we need inthis, this precise moment, and
feeling grateful for all thosewonderful little things that
bring us joy in this moment andallowing ourselves to feel how
we are feeling.
(11:21):
But I've touched on this before.
Allow ourselves to feel andit's important to feel and
understand that you're feeling acertain way.
But I say this again, justbecause we thought something
doesn't make it actually real.
So we feel, then we kind ofmove on.
So calm breathing is my biggestself-esteem builder in all of
(11:46):
this, because sometimes thedoing comes from our overdoing,
because we need to do, becausesometimes we can be too being
and then we're not doing enough, but generally not always the
case.
But doing, you know, can comefrom a state of where we've got
low self-esteem.
So how can we build that up?
And I always find calmingbreaths and trying to have the
(12:08):
confidence and the self-care tojust sit and be sometimes and
okay, you may really struggle inmeditation and you're sitting
there.
I was doing, I was doing mychanting earlier.
I'm doing a specific chant atthe moment and each day as I sit
down at the moment my mind'sreally busy, but then there's
snippets where it's not andthat's where you build on.
(12:29):
Don't look at where you'relosing your attention a bit more
, where you've kind of you're inthat meditation, and meditation
can just be sitting somewhere, calmly going for a nice walk.
Anything like that will helpyou do and be and find that joy.
So I'm going to share with youa wonderful calming meditation.
(12:53):
Top tips for the meditation iseither sit nice and cross-legged
on the floor with a nicestraight back always nice to sit
on a block or a cushion, orthat's not available for you you
sit in a chair with the backnice and straight.
The important thing is you'renot slouching and if you're
doing something that requiresyour concentration, all you need
to do is just pause this andyou can reconvene the meditation
(13:17):
at a time that is good for you.
If you're doing the meditation, let's begin.
So the meditation we're goingtoday is we're going to do a
visualization meditationmeditation.
(13:46):
So the world feels like it canmove fast at times, but in this
meditation you are visualizing, laying down on the most
comfortable day bed that you canimagine.
Maybe it's a comfortable sofaor one of those comfortable day
beds, or maybe it's acomfortable sofa or one of those
comfortable day beds, or maybeit's a yoga mat, but whatever
signals a sense of calmness.
That's where you imagine thatyou are and as you lay there,
(14:11):
feeling so supported, sosupported, perhaps thoughts may
pop into your mind about whatyou should be doing and, of
course, in a life which feelsfull of so many tasks, it can be
(14:31):
difficult to entice ourselvesaway from that.
But the being comes from theacknowledgement of where you are
now and in your visualization, you feel as if this beautiful,
softest blanket you can everimagine is made up of your
favorite fabric and it kind ofwraps in a kind of cocoon, and
(14:55):
you feel as if you're lovinglyheld, lovingly supported and
lovingly nurtured.
So's okay to let go, to stopthinking of all the doing and
(15:26):
then being for in the place ofbeing.
That is when we eventuallydiscover our best course of
action.
But the action will come later, later, later, later.
Well, after the meditation, thebeing is all that we need right
(15:48):
now.
The being is the moment, and Ijust invite you to stay here for
a bit longer just doing somecalming deep breaths.
I'm still here, but I'm goingto be quiet so that you can just
focus on some calming breathsthat are calming and natural for
you.
So, dear one, as you come outof this visualization, take one
(16:38):
more final deep inhalation, onemore final deep exhalation, and
just allow yourself tocompletely and utterly be back
in the body, back in the moment, and just take your time as you
slowly go about the rest of yourday.
