But at a young age, Derek found himself in trouble with the law and was given an option: jail or military. After joining the US Army, Derek would suffer a horrific injury that would take away his military career and change him physically and mentally. After numerous surgeries and battling recovery from his injuries, Derek would rekindle his love of pro wrestling.
