Bay Rats & Buoys Podcast – Episode 47 | Season 2 | On the Boat

Labor Day weekend is officially in the rearview mirror, and we hope everyone got out to enjoy some time on the water! Whether you were fishing, boating, or just soaking up the last days of summer, the Bay Rats & Buoys crew is here to keep the stoke alive. In this week’s episode, Captain Gaige is back recording right from the boat, bringing you all the energy and local insight that makes this podcast a must-listen for anglers and boaters across Long Island and beyond.

We’re asking all of our loyal fans and sponsors to help us celebrate as we count down to our one-year anniversary—just five weeks away! Hit that like button, drop a comment, and share this episode on your social media feeds to enter our big raffle giveaway. We’ve got some epic prizes lined up as a thank-you for riding with us all season long.

Behind the scenes, Bay Rats & Buoys has some huge projects in motion. We’re gearing up for the 2026 New York Boat Show, preparing to launch the Bay Rats & Buoys Fishing Club in 2026, and locking in dates for our Second Annual Striped Bass Invitational this coming June. With your continued support, this community keeps growing stronger every week!

On the fishing front, we stopped into Hi Hook Bait & Tackle in Huntington to showcase some killer products designed for chasing false albacore (albies), which are starting to show up in our waters. Albies, bonito, and Spanish mackerel are all on our hit list as we explore new grounds this week with our buddy Tony, the Captain of the Kitchen. September fishing is heating up, and the action promises to be fast, fun, and loaded with opportunities to bend rods.

Labor Day may mark the unofficial end of summer, but the season is far from over. Charters are in full swing, the Autumnal Equinox arrives on September 22, and we’re looking forward to closing out summer strong with our friends in the boating and fishing community. Tune in, share the stoke, and we’ll see you out on the water!

Don’t forget to subscribe, comment, and share to be part of the Bay Rats & Buoys anniversary raffle!

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
