It was Christmas Eve, 1971. 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke and her mother, Maria Koepcke, excitedly boarded LANSA Flight 508. They were flying from the city of Lima, Peru, to spend Christmas with Juliane’s father in Panguana, a biological research centre in the rainforest where the family lived. It would be a short flight, a little over an hour if they were lucky. But they weren’t lucky. Far from it. Midway through the flight, with no warning, the plane broke apart! Juliane was thrown out, and suddenly found herself free-falling some 10,000 feet! How would she survive this colossal fall? What had caused the plane to break apart mid-flight? If you want answers to these questions and more, then stay tuned as we explore this unbelievable story of survival against all odds, and many more like it!
