Be With Me is a daily 7 minute chronological walk through the New Testament hosted by Michael Smith. It is for everyone who is curious about what Jesus actually said and did in the gospels. Most episodes will leave you with at least one good thought to chew on for the rest of the day. We start with the Bible and hopefully end with Awe. We are walking through the chronological events of Jesus' life and then thoughtfully considering them. It is meant to spur the devotional life of the Christian and the not-yet-Christian. We occasionally venture into the Old Testament when it helps our understanding of the New Testament events. Everybody has 7 minutes. Everybody needs to wonder. Be With Me is hosted by Michael Smith who has absolutely no special qualifications to do a podcast. He is not a pastor. He has not been to seminary. He does not lead a mega-church. He is not a professional and he has no more credentials than you do. He does, however, follow a great God with an observant eye and a curious heart. Each day, he starts with a study bible and aims for astonishment. ‘be with him’ for 7 minutes as he sets out daily to discover the God who invites us to ‘Be With Me.’
Maybe you have heard the phrase, "run to Jesus". Well, what if there is a body of water between Him and you? Peter answers that problem. He "THROWS HIMSELF into the SEA!"
It is a practical illustration of good theology. Remember, no matter what you are doing today, you are Bi-vocational. You'll be representing Jesus wherever you are. You will need every bit of Him, so throw yourself into the sea!

Just like you probably put yourself on the path toward breakfast, it is wise to put ourselves on the path of revelation before the Lord.
His DISCLOSURE is related to, and is perhap proportional to our EXPOSURE.
Because we as humans forget, if the revelation is not FRESH, there is no revelation. We MUST have fresh exposure to have fresh disclosure. Join me for 7 minutes of exposure. Comment if you get a disclosure.

If you toss a ball to a two year old, for about a million times it will bounce off his head. Then on a magical day, he'll grab it an hold on.
Let's get to the meat of this podcast: Belief. John is asking you to grab on and hold on. Listen. Grab on. believe. Hold on.

Thomas, for sure, is MORE than a knucklehead. Jesus has every right to judge and punish him for his durable unbelief. So the big question is :
Does Jesus rightfully nail Thomas?
NO, Jesus took the nails FOR THOMAS.
Does Jesus rightfully nail Me?
NO, Jesus took the nails FOR ME.
Gotta listen to this one! then subscribe.

So called "doubting Thomas" gets a pass from Christian history. He does way more than doubt. We find him resisting human leadership. Resisting fellowship. Resisting many counselors. Ignoring the years spent. The teaching. The miracles. Frankly: Resisting Jesus. Yikes.
Who else does this sound like? It sounds like JUDAS. Perhaps it will turn out just as bad? Subscribe to find out.

When Jesus shows Himself to the disciples after the resurrection, He tells them what their message should be:
First of course, is Jesus Himself. His life, suffering, death and resurrection.
Second, is repentance for the forgiveness of sin. Other than Jesus, this is the main message of Christianity.

If Easter is real, then you have been sent.
If so, where have you been sent? Who are your people?
Are you missional in the places you have been sent.

Jesus gives a medium sized rebuke to the duo on the road to Emmaus on Easter Sunday. Basically, "YOU CAN DO BETTER".
BTW: the whole OT is about me.
BTW: Breaking bread as an ordinance of the church at the Lord's tabernacle reveals me in a special way.
With these words, right from the resurrected Jesus, their eyes were opened. I pray that ours may be as well. Subscribe.

Jesus calls out a duo on the road to Emmaus on the very day of His resurrection. He tells them they are SPIRITUALLY BRADYCARDIC; that they are ssssllllllllooooowwww of heart to believe.
He's gentle about it, but is forthright: You should be quicker to believe. See if I'm right in seven short minutes. Subscribe if I am.

This is how the gospel sounds to humans: ridiculous. Even to the disciples.
The disciples responded poorly at first to the news of the resurrection. Remember, the road from thinking this Worthless to Worship is travelled with divine help as He opens minds and hearts.
Even the disciples needed some help to believe in the resurrection. We might expect the same from our not-yet-brothers and sisters. Please subscribe, listen and consider...
Women are the first in the resurrection news.
A Woman is the first in the seeing Jesus Himself after the resurrection.
Today, Women are the second in seeing Jesus. How do they respond?
They FALL DOWN and HOLD ON. Please listen and subscribe.

Mary Magdalene makes a mistake on Easter Sunday. She goes to the tomb to seek the HORIZONTAL Jesus, not the VERTICAL Jesus. She is seeking the dead, soon to be stinky, probably stolen body of Jesus.
Jesus asks her a great question: WHOM ARE YOU SEEKING? The answer is a lost body lain somewhere.
Let's be ready to find the alive, Vertical Jesus today.

Apparently, Mary Magdalene breaks the rules about holding on too tightly to to the resurrected Jesus. It is a sweet rule to break.
She is the first to see Jesus after His rising from the dead. She recognizes Him as He speaks her name. We'll all hear our name spoken by Jesus either in friendship or in judgment.
My recommendation is to receive Him kindly as Lord and friend, so He can address you kindly on that day. Subscribe. L...
He MUST rise. Why?

Without the reality of these 3 words, all of Christianity falls.
Without this day, there are no other days of Christianity
Absent this treasure of Jesus, there are no other treasures of Jesus.
The stone is rolled away by an angel, not to release, but to reveal. And then, to a group of most faithful women the 3 sweetest words in all of history: HE IS RISEN.

Holy Saturday is traditionally a quiet day in the Church. It is a day of thinking, reflecting and doing a private faith-check of yourself. It is the best day of the year to believe.
What you do and think on Holy Saturday depends on what you think will happen on Sunday. He gives us all we need for faith on this day. Have the faith of Easter Sunday before Easter. It is the best day to believe.

Please join me today as a humble podcaster tries to make sense of Good Friday. We'll try to give some weight to the day by looking at people who felt its weight. Some responded in fear and some with courage. The thief on the cross comes to the conviction of sin, specifically his own.
All roads of Christianity lead thru the suffering, the death, and the cross of Jesus. Please join me there on this Good Friday.

Nicodemus has one of the great redemptive stories in the Bible. He has 3 years to figure out what he believes about Jesus. When the crucifixion comes, he is ready. He's got 75# of spices ready for his burial. Why? because 3 years earlier Jesus told him that He MUST be "lifted up".
If you are finding yourself at the "foot of the cross" take great comfort. He also sends the Spirit to help you, especially in ...
There comes a time when SECRET Christians stop being so secret. It happens with Joseph of Arimathea at the cross. He blows his cover in a great act of courage and service to the body of Jesus. He changes his identity from a secret Christian to a scared Christian. I’m not sure I know any believers who aren’t occasionally scared.

Join me as we admire the women at the cross, especially Mary Magdalene.
Why? Because she was there. She showed up. She ministered. She was faithful. She was generous. She was thankful. She was FOUND WITH Him before, during, and after the crucifixion.
Let's be like the women at the cross. They are wonderful examples for us.
