SPEAKER_01 (00:07):
You're listening to
Bears Beyond the Gate, a Bristol
Bears podcast made by fans forfans with three friends who love
to club the game and all thingsbears.
Well, boys, short pod, shortintro.
Um, we've decided to do a very, very quick, rapido mini pod.
Uh, we're on Tuesday night.
Uh, we've got the Premiershiprestart for one game on
(00:28):
Saturday, but it does actuallyuh signal the start of a
nine-week block of what we mightconsider to be proper games of
rugby rather than kind of PremCup games and the odd exhibition
match.
So I think we've convened.
So this we have to set ourselvesa deadline of 30 minutes.
I don't think we've ever done apod episode in under 30 minutes.
(00:51):
So we are under pressure.
SPEAKER_00 (00:53):
But pudding's been
prepared, so let's keep it
steady.
SPEAKER_01 (00:57):
And we're on Zoom
for our regular listeners.
We're not down the Bristol BeerFactory chat room.
We're on Zoom.
We've had a bit of a laughtrying to work out how to use
it.
Lee was like came on, then hedisappeared, then he came back
again, and he was like sidewayson his video.
It's uh how how quickly weforget uh lockdown stuff.
Anyway, right, boys.
So as I said, um we have had abit of a hiatus for the Autumn
(01:20):
Internationals.
There has been a bit of rugby,as I'm sure many listeners will
know.
We had two Prem Cup games and wehad the Argentina uh game at uh
at Ashton Gate.
Um, but the last Prem game wehad was the loss at Bath.
And of course, the Prem restartsagain this Saturday, 5.30 at
Ashton Gate against NorthamptonSaints.
(01:40):
And I think it's fair to saythat these games have always
been quite good for us.
Uh, we tend to seem to do wellagainst Northampton Saints after
an international period.
Uh, and also I would say thatdespite our kind of worries over
the last couple of months aboutinjuries and so forth, I would
say now we are starting to see afew people back.
And uh, I actually went on ascouting mission down to Exeter
(02:03):
Chiefs on Saturday to to checkout Jimmy Williams and Max
Leath.
I may report on that in aminute.
Um, but I think what I thoughtwe'd do is is do a kind of
something we don't do thatoften, and we should do more of
it, is I'll read out a list ofnames of people that I think are
in contention for selection onSaturday, and you boys are gonna
pick, well, a starting 15 tostart with, and then then we'll
(02:25):
maybe like we'll add the benchon afterwards.
So are you ready, boys?
This is your challenge.
So I'm gonna read out the namesand then we'll come to we're
gonna see what we think.
So I think, uh, and this isbased at Tuesday night, about
7:30 on Tuesday night.
I think the following playersare potentially uh in contention
for selection on Saturday.
(02:47):
So start with the with the kindof front row or the start with
the props, start with the endwith the uh with the uh piano
shifters.
Now I'm gonna say Max Lah.
I saw Max Lahiv do 40 minutes atChiefs.
He made a five-meter carry aswell at one point, and then and
that to me said that boy's fitfor this.
So I think Laheef's gonna be upfor selection.
(03:08):
Klosker, George Klosker, I'm notsure about.
Um, we're gonna assume he isfit, although there is a little
bit of speculation on that.
Kawitama, he came on againstChiefs, so he's fit.
Woolmore, I'm assuming, is fit.
Graham Slaw is, I'm assuming, isfit.
Now, of course, there's alsoGenji to throw into the mix, but
we may have to like discusswhether we think Genji will
(03:28):
play.
When we come to Hooker's, I'mpretty sure Ogre is fit again,
but he didn't play on Saturday.
But Harry Thacker playedSaturday, so he's definitely
fit.
So Hookers, definitely Thacker,maybe Ogre.
Then engine room, Joe Battley,I'm assuming is fit and uh
raring to go and get away fromhis house because he's got a new
kid, so he needs something todo.
(03:49):
Um, Fitz Harding, obviously, uhthe legendary captain Fitz
Harding.
Um I can't you know his name.
Oh Miles, you're good at this.
The Georgian Luca.
SPEAKER_00 (04:01):
Ivanish Vili.
SPEAKER_01 (04:02):
Ivanish Vili.
He he should be available.
Um, Bill Matter, I think, shouldbe available because Fiji didn't
play this weekend.
Um and uh oh, sorry, this wasthe I'm talking, I've gone into
the back row, so start again.
So I'm going Battley.
Now Rubiolo, I think, isavailable, even though he played
Sunday because he's only playedtwo games.
Um didn't play against Wales.
(04:24):
Joe Owen should be available, and obviously the the newly
capped England A, Joe Owen.
Steele Barker, he's now fit,he's played all of those Prem
games in the Argentina game, andhe played on Saturday.
He's looking all right.
Then Steve Luatur, Fitz Harding,Santi Grandona.
I'm not sure about because he Ithink he has played three times
(04:45):
for the for Argentina, so he maybe messed this weekend.
And then Bill Matter, they'regoing into the halfbacks, Kira
Marmion, I assume, and then SamWolstenholm has played three
games over this little hiatusperiod, played on Saturday, so
he looks fit, and then we'relooking at um number 10.
I mean, Worsley played onSaturday and looked really good.
(05:08):
So I'd say Worsley's definitelyin the running for the 23, but I
would have potentially will umTom Jordan will be back.
We haven't seen much of him, buthe looked like he came through
the uh Tonga game for Scotlandunscathed on Saturday.
Um, and then big news, JimmyWilliams definitely looked back
fit on Saturday.
He only did 40 minutes, but Ithink it was a pre it was a
(05:31):
planned substitution athalftime, and he looked back to
full fitness.
Um, the newly re-signed umBernard Yancy Van Rensburg, and
we may just come back to that ina minute.
He's definitely fit.
Um, Revolvo, we're gonna assumeis available.
Question mark on Moroni.
Obviously, Moroney went another80 Sunday against England and
(05:52):
looked like you know, he lookedlike he was a young lad.
Whether he's even got a contractat Bristol is is questionable,
but he might be back.
Uh then we've got Jack Bates, who played on Saturday looked
fit.
Noah Heward played on Saturday,Gates Chiefs looks fit.
Then I'm assuming Lewis ReeseZamit will be back from Wales
because there is a Wales gamethis weekend, but it's out of
(06:14):
out of window.
None of the English players areplaying.
And then Benjamin Elizalde, Ireckon, is is it up for
selection because although he'sbeen with Argentina, he hasn't
actually been any of their 23s.
No, no.
That's it from first team.
So that's pretty good, prettygood going, I'd say.
You know, it looks like we'regetting a few people back.
So I don't know, boys, what doyou think?
(06:34):
If we had to go for a front row,and should we make an assumption
that Genji might be rested forthis weekend?
Because he's played three.
I think so.
Yeah, we've got, I mean, we'vegot nine proper games coming.
We've got this one weird premgame, then we've got two
European home games.
Yeah.
I think we've got to make a bigeffort to win because if we can
(06:58):
go two from two in Europe, inthe we've got a chance when we
come back after Christmas, andthen we've got those three, four
prem games round Christmas.
So, you know, it has to be a bitof management.
And I think I did the postarticle yesterday, and I said
that Pat's algorithm, selectionalgorithm, is going to be
working overtime in the next fewweeks.
Because it is a bit of anightmare to try and sort of
(07:19):
patch it all together.
So, who wants to go with thefront row?
Miles, you look like a likelysort of lad that likes to go the
distance with the front row.
So, what do you like?
SPEAKER_00 (07:27):
Yeah, I'd like to
well, yeah, I'd like I'd like to
see Max Lahid start, you know, even if potentially 40, 50, 60
minutes we might get out of him.
You know, he's it'd be it'd bebusting to go, won't he?
He's had a period of rehab andinjury, so I definitely start
big Max.
Um, yeah, Hooker, you're right,we're not entirely sure.
(07:50):
Um, yeah, I I feel I grey sortof is is up the pecking order
over over Thacker.
So I think you know, he'll he'llbe he'll be keen to get get get
some match time again.
I think Laheef as well.
Who's fit?
Um I think if you're gonna sayLaheef as as tighthead, yeah, so
he's gonna be our loose headprop.
SPEAKER_01 (08:11):
Got Woolmore, Graham
Slaw.
That's Closker.
Klosker's tighthead though,isn't he?
SPEAKER_00 (08:16):
I know, yeah,
absolutely.
SPEAKER_01 (08:18):
I think start with
Woolly, to be honest.
Woolley will be champing at thebit.
He's probably had about 25saunas over the last, yeah, you
know, and he broke his nose, didn't he?
SPEAKER_00 (08:27):
So he's probably
desperate for another punch up
or something like that.
So uh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (08:31):
So we're gonna we
should we stick with Max at
tight head, or grey uh well,Woolly at one, I should say, uh
Lu said, or grey cook hooker, assuming he is fit, Max at
three.
SPEAKER_03 (08:44):
You happy with that,
Lee?
Sound good to you.
I've got funny, I've got a funnyfeeling that Fats might start it
hooker.
I just failed it.
He's I I wouldn't wanna I thinkPat's thinking's gonna be we're
gonna go into this block ofthese block of gains now, and I
the one thing we don't need isany more injuries.
(09:05):
Yeah, and I I just got a feelingI mean fax is is it it's in safe
hands, isn't it?
And I I don't I I just feel thatthat that he might just Pat
might just err on a on a side ofcaution and play Facts instead
of uh of Gabs.
SPEAKER_01 (09:21):
Yeah, maybe Gabs on
the bench.
And I think if Gabs is not fit, then the only other option we
got is uh Thomas Guilliam, whohas played for the Prem.
And actually I've seen him playtwice.
I I like that I like the cut ofhis jib.
He's a jib cut, William.
So I I mean I bet he'll be onthe bench if one of if O'Grey's
not available.
Right, okay, that's good.
Well Lee, let's come to youthen.
Let's get for the big boys, theengine room, two locks, starting
(09:45):
locks.
What are your thoughts?
SPEAKER_03 (09:47):
Uh I think it's it's
gotta be Joe Batley.
He picks picks himself, and I Ithink, like you said, um I'm
gonna get slaughtered for formispronouncing this name now,
aren't I?
But I think all Pedro, yeah,Rubelio, I think is uh is is
gonna be did I say it right ornot?
SPEAKER_01 (10:07):
No, Rubiolo Rubiolo,
Rubiolo, I mean for God's sake.
This guy, he's Pedro, he played80 against England, he was
scrapping with Henry Pollock.
Actually, he wasn't scrapping, come on to that.
But he just looks like he looksto me like he's one of those
prop uh locks that is heconserves his energy very well
(10:28):
during a game, but but when he'sneeded, he he is there.
He's and I agree with you.
I think if he's on a roll, we Ithink Pedro will be playing.
So I'm with you on that.
If he doesn't play, then we'vegot Joe Owen as well.
So I think it's gonna be two outof Owen, Batley, Rubiolo, and
then the other one on the bench, and that's that's not bad
(10:49):
looking.
Okay, Miles, back row.
SPEAKER_00 (10:54):
Uh, I think it's
sort of it selects itself.
I mean, we we've got to go bigagainst Northampton.
We really need a home win.
Uh um Luatua, Captain Fitz, umand big big Bill, I think.
SPEAKER_01 (11:09):
Bill, I think so.
I think the only debate might beLua Tua.
They might put Owen at six.
You never know if Petro playsmobile six.
unknown (11:20):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (11:20):
So if uh you've got
Battley, Rubiolo, and Owen,
you've got three jumpers in theline out there, and you've then
got mobile six as well.
So that could be our little umuh and I mean obviously Joe
Owen, you know, he's he playedfor England A.
He's gonna be desperate to playsomewhere, isn't he?
Is Pecker is Pecker is is it upmiles or is it down?
Is Pecker?
I think it's thoroughbred, isn'the?
SPEAKER_00 (11:42):
You know, he's got
some pace about him too, yeah.
SPEAKER_01 (11:44):
Yeah, maybe Stevie
would be someone that would keep
on the bench to kind of steadythe ship if things don't quite
go the way we hope, as he hasdone a lot in the past.
Okay, uh I'll do halfbacks.
Uh obviously Marmion is gonnastart.
Wollstone home will have to beon the bench.
You've got to have a nine, Ithink, on the bench.
Yeah, and I I think this is theinteresting one is do we put
(12:08):
Jordan in at 10 or do we saveJordan for 15 and do we put
Worsley in at 10?
Now I'm gonna because you knowlet's just push the boat out.
I think Worsley has done enoughnow.
I think he is a notch up fromwhat he was last year.
I've seen him play, uh I saw himplay on Saturday at Chiefs.
(12:30):
And the thing about the game atChiefs on Saturday was there was
a lot of Academy players on bothsides, and there were a few Prem
players, and there were a fewplayers that were prem ready
players.
And I'm talking Batesy,Williams, LaHeef, they all look
like proper prem players, noteven second string prem players.
And I thought Worsley was inthat category.
(12:51):
I thought he looked like he wasconfident, he he he has a bit of
a swagger about him.
He did a lovely cross kick to uhAidan Boschoff to score.
So I'm gonna put my neck out andI'm gonna say we're gonna start
with Worsley at 10.
Okay, so think about that.
Yeah, I like that.
I like that.
Marmy and Worsley Axis.
Right.
Miles, back to you.
(13:13):
Centres 1213.
SPEAKER_00 (13:16):
Oh too many to
choose from now, haven't we?
SPEAKER_01 (13:19):
Well, it's almost a
glutton of riches.
I feel sick thinking about thenumber of centres.
SPEAKER_00 (13:24):
Absolutely.
I I mean because okay, I I thinkBernard is is a given, isn't he?
Yeah, yeah, um, absolutely.
Um I mean, do you're right.
Do we is Moroni in contract?
Do we even need him at themoment?
Um Bernard and and uh I thinkCalabetti probably the centre.
SPEAKER_01 (13:45):
Yeah, I mean
Calabetti played centre for he
played 13 for Fiji, scored agreat try against France, looked
really good against England.
What do you think, Lee?
I'm gonna disagree slightly.
SPEAKER_03 (13:58):
Good.
Um only because I think that ifbig big Jimmy Williams is fit,
Yancy and Big Jimmy in thecentre for me, and I personally
would play Calavetti on thewing.
SPEAKER_01 (14:12):
Yeah, I think the
only caveat caveat to that is
that is Williams is yes, is hestarting fit or is he coming on
fit?
Could he come on?
Is it real I don't know they'vegot it is he'll only only he
knows and Pat knows that and themedical people would you risk
someone to start a big game whenthere's a lot of energy going
(14:34):
round because it's a premrestart game?
And I don't know.
I I it could be either way, couldn't it?
I think you're right.
Yeah, I like the idea of eitherof them.
SPEAKER_00 (14:44):
I agree with thee,
because you know that the that
combination when they were fitwas uh unstoppable last season.
Jimmy uh Jimmy and and Yancey inthe in the centre.
So yeah, once he's fully fit andgot 80 minutes in him, that is
an amazing centre partnership.
Um while we don't know what'sgoing on with Ibritoia, you're
right, then it's not gonna betill New Year at least.
SPEAKER_03 (15:08):
I mean, the the the
thing for me is if Williams is
fit, it's the muscle memory thathim and Yancey have, like
Charles have just said, yeahthey they they do things without
thinking about it, and I thinkit's that kind of fluidity that
if he is if Williams is fit, Ithink he would add something for
the Saints game.
(15:28):
But obviously, it it is it is agamble, and we obviously we
don't know how fit he is at themoment, do we?
SPEAKER_01 (15:35):
The thing we got
with Revovo and Tom Jordan is
we've got a bit of flexibilityaround the backs, you know, they
could swap around a bit, so youknow, Jordan could start 15 and
go 10 if necessary, and Revolvocould start 13 and go wing, or
could start wing and go 13.
So I think somewhere, I I thinkit's a difficult one.
I think we'll leave that onehanging.
(15:56):
It could be Revovo.
Revovo's gonna start somewhere,I think that's the important
thing.
He's either gonna be 13 or wing.
If he doesn't start at 13, he'llstart on the wing and so forth.
So I think Jordan, I think weassume if we'll we'll start in
the game, we'll start somewhereas well.
And I'm we're gambling on 15.
So let's just for the momentassume he's 15.
(16:17):
So we're looking at one otherwinger, possibly, or two other
wingers, depending on whetherRevovo starts 13.
So any thoughts, Lee?
Any other wingers?
SPEAKER_03 (16:27):
I I mean, I quite
again, it's it's all down to
fitness.
We're we're kind of speculatingagain, but I quite like Noah
Heward.
Yeah, uh, I I like the fact thatdefensively he's he's he's on
the ball, and I think he's he'sjust one of those kind of solid,
reliable players that you knowwe we we lean on a little bit
(16:48):
and we trust.
SPEAKER_01 (16:48):
So yeah, and also
he's he's played he's played
those games over the the littlebreak, and he played again
again, he played fullback on didhe play fullback?
No, he didn't.
He played on the wing againstChiefs because I think Prothero
played fullback.
So Hoard has had a proper decenthit out, and I think he's now
ready for a prem.
(17:09):
He'll definitely be in the 23,whether he's on the bench.
Yeah, um, and I suppose theother the other person to
speculate on Miles is is JackBates.
Is there anywhere in for him?
Because he's also been uh aconstant, and he has looked the
he has looked class against theboys.
So I feel like Batesy, I meanMike will need Mike will be
(17:31):
gutted if he's not playing onyou're right.
SPEAKER_00 (17:33):
I wouldn't think
he's been a stallwart over the
last sort of two, three games.
Um but you know, from a fansperspective and club
perspective, we if fit and ifhe's available, we've got to get
our money out of Reese Samit, unfortunately.
So unfortunately, he might hemight just make it on the baits
(17:57):
on the bench, unless ReeseSammit is injured.
SPEAKER_01 (18:00):
I think, yeah,
you're right, he's got to play,
hasn't he?
He's got to play.
I think so.
Yeah, I think he's you know heplayed for Wales at the weekend.
I mean, this could be that youknow the the way that uh I mean,
if Jordan plays ten becauseWorsley doesn't play ten, then
that does open up a space in thefullback.
It could be that Huad goesfullback, yeah, Reese Samet goes
one wing, and then Revovo theother wing, but then that
(18:23):
depends on Williams.
SPEAKER_03 (18:25):
But how nice is that
we're actually getting options
to choose from now, which islovely, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01 (18:30):
It is nice back fit
again, exactly, and and it's
it's fun, isn't it?
It's fun when we've got options.
So I mean, I think probably Ikind of losing track of what we
said, but I would have thoughtit's hard to know about I would
have thought we'll go five, three split.
It's not like Saints are youknow like a lot like playing
(18:51):
South Africa, is it?
Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (18:52):
More internationals
needing rest than we have,
haven't we?
SPEAKER_01 (18:55):
So I think we were
we were sort of saying Owen,
maybe possibly Grondona if he'saround.
Because I I mean, if I wonderwhether Grondona, they're gonna
wait and see if Pollock getsselected for Northampton.
And if Pollock gets selected,Grondona is gonna be knocking on
Pat's door and saying, I amplaying.
And if those people don't knowwhat I'm talking about, me and
(19:16):
Miles do, because we watched it,or actually, did you see it,
Miles?
Because we'd gone by then, hadn't we?
No, I didn't see it.
I just so oh no, so basicallywhat happened was that after the
game, uh when we were watched itlive, because we're even though
we're not around the down theBristol Beer Factory chat room,
I will give them a plug becausewe went down there uh on Sunday
to watch the England game, andthere was a scuffle on the pitch
(19:39):
after the game, and it thecamera was like well in there,
and it was Pollock and GrantSanti Grandona went as having
words with Pollock.
Um, and anyway, do you know whatI thought I'd do, boys?
I thought, let's use ourconnections in the camp.
So obviously, Monday morning Iget on Instagram and who do you
think I messaged?
Straight into Dunny, and I said,Hey mate, Pete here.
(20:02):
Hope your rehab's going well.
You've always got to likepretend that you you're not
interested in just one thing.
Then I said, anyway, would loveto know what Santi was saying to
Pollock post-match yesterday.
It looked tasty.
Will he even better if they bothplay on Saturday?
And then Dunny did get back tome, not straight away, but he
did get back to me.
And he said, Hey mate, only sawhim briefly today, but think he
(20:24):
was more annoyed at curry thanclassic Pollock just jumped in
the middle.
So it was quite a diplomaticanswer.
SPEAKER_03 (20:30):
I I I know, I know
the answer.
I know exactly what he askedhim.
I think that he was he waspissed off because obviously
Argentinian steak you alwayshave rare, don't you?
SPEAKER_01 (20:43):
Yeah, we all agree.
SPEAKER_03 (20:44):
Of course, of
course.
And and I I think he'd seenPollop the night before and he'd
had a medium.
Yeah, and I think that was it,mate.
SPEAKER_00 (20:52):
I think you're
right, and he and he said he
said he'd have some awful sauceon it, and that that tipped him
over the edge, didn't it?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03 (20:58):
He had to he had to
stake Diane's sauce or whatever
it's called.
SPEAKER_01 (21:04):
Yeah, I mean, I I
think actually then in hind now
it's all come out that it wasall to do with Tom Curry, wasn't
it?
And uh what happened was Currytook out their fullback with a
late tackle, marginal latetackle, but it Dow has turned
out he's done his anteriorcruciate ligament, which is
pretty bad.
They were pretty annoyed thatnothing got happened, and then I
(21:26):
think I heard, I read that Currywent in down the tunnel to saw
the Argentinian coaches, wentover to say something.
They said, get out of our, youknow, we're not interested in
talking to you.
And then he went F off andpushed Contum Pony, shoved it,
and then Contum Pony's come outsaying he's a bully.
Like, how could the refs noteven have looked at it because
he thought it was done onoutcome?
(21:47):
Because when it's a high ballcatch, you know, when someone
goes up for high catch andmistimes it and takes someone
out in the air and they land ontheir head, they get sent off.
He's saying, why he's he's donethe leg, he's done our knee.
Um why um you know, why did henot get sent off?
So so there was a lot of to inand fro, and then obviously
Pollock, as j Dunny must knowhim, just diving in.
(22:09):
What do you want to say, Lee?
SPEAKER_03 (22:12):
I just want to say,
I mean, I you know, I hate
sticking up for cell players,uh, or or anyone with cell
connections, really, but uhcurry is uh he's uh a hard
player, but he's a fair player.
For me, it wasn't there wasn'tany any malicious intent in any
of that, and it was unfortunate.
(22:32):
And I mean these guys are toughbloody people, you know, and
yeah, I I just feel like he'sgetting he's getting uh you
know, he's getting beaten with astick that I I think is a bit
undeserving personally.
SPEAKER_01 (22:45):
Yeah, and I think uh
I'm sure it all come out in the
wash a little bit, but I dothink that it would be quite
amusing if Pollock's playing onSaturday and Santi's playing as
well.
And maybe I don't think Rubiolo,I was watching out Rubiolo looks
like he's the sort of guy thatjust just bides his time in case
it really kicks off.
Santi's like he's like an earlyadopt Santi goes in early, like
(23:08):
reconnaissance marine, and thenRubiolo is like in the
background, the heavy artillery,if required.
SPEAKER_03 (23:14):
Yeah, but yeah, but
just think if if Santi's playing
and Polit's playing, how muchare we gonna save?
Bristol Bears are gonna save onfireworks, exactly.
SPEAKER_01 (23:23):
Right, boys, I've
realised just got a a note
saying we've got less than 10minutes left on Zoom.
So there's one other thing.
I think we've done well there.
I think we've picked a team.
Uh we'll you know, it does, it'sit's we'll see what happens, and
of course, now we've gotsomething to look forward to on
whatever Friday when team'sannounced.
Um, but yeah, I've just seen hotoff the press uh on the Bristol
(23:45):
Forum, somebody has posted whothe ref is for Saturday.
SPEAKER_02 (23:49):
So who do you think
is it?
SPEAKER_03 (23:52):
Who do you think is
our ref?
I can see your face, and I knowfull well who you're talking
about now.
SPEAKER_00 (24:02):
Right, yeah, yeah,
because if you're smiling, I
think Bristol fans realise itcan only be one nut job from our
previous game.
Can't surely yeah, go for it.
You say not tempo.
SPEAKER_01 (24:15):
It is tempo.
Oh man.
I mean, there is a bit of a wemade Lee, you introduced quite a
serious point in that pod afterBath when you said that actually
they should kind of pick, potentially they should pick
refs linking to certain games.
And you know, Tempo had quite adifficult game to ref.
It was a lot of argy bargy, buthe did kind of get a little bit
(24:36):
like he was like a kind of youngteacher who's lost control of
the class, and and thus his onlymanagement strategy is just to
get more angry and just whistlelouder and then sort of strut
over anyway.
So tempo, tempo is back.
I mean, I don't know, I don'tknow how that it's it'd be quite
interesting to find out how theydo allocate, you know, is it
(24:57):
just randomly done?
Is it like a big lottery at refhq?
They just have all the all thegames in a thing, and somebody
comes in and picks it out andgoes, Tempo, you've got Bristol
again.
Tempo's like, oh, really?
Um, so anyway, it's Tempo, butinterestingly, one of his
assistant refs, there's twoactually, I've never heard of
them, and I'm sure there arepeople out there who have, so
(25:18):
apologies for not being a noiseon officials in rugby.
But one of the one of the linosis Hamish Grant, not Hamish
Schmails, Hamish Grant, and thenanother one is Mike Hudson.
So I'm thinking Hamish Grantseems like he's an extra out of
Monica the Glen.
SPEAKER_03 (25:34):
Wait, wait, what's
well Mike Hudson?
Sorry, wait a minute.
Mike Hudson.
Sorry, I know we're on Zoom, butI thought you said something
else, Pete.
Sorry, but no, I didn't.
SPEAKER_01 (25:45):
But if if Hamish
Grant is an extra from well,
Tempo is something like he's ayoung version of Compo from Last
of the Summer One.
You've got Hamish Grant is anextra in Monica the Glen.
Mike Hudson, what does he soundlike he does?
SPEAKER_00 (25:59):
He sounds like a
boxer from a sort of like
naughty's era.
SPEAKER_01 (26:04):
Or he would be like
he seems like a 1970s BA pilot.
He does the he does the longball.
Mike, this is your captain MikeHudson.
I've been doing this for years.
I've had about five affairs withStuart Ashes, and I am just
absolutely loving life.
(26:26):
Yeah, I reckon he's a young ladcoming through.
Um, so anyway, that's uh that'ssomething to look forward to.
Tempo.
I'm not sure who the TMO isactually.
Uh I didn't not sure I got timeto find out.
SPEAKER_00 (26:38):
Anyway, um one other
thing, boys.
SPEAKER_03 (26:42):
Let's get on to the
good news this week.
Go for the good news.
Tell us the good news, then Lee.
Bernard the Mullet, Jansy VanRensberg has signed a new well
extension to his contract.
Of course, we don't know howlong this is, but no, it's
probably it's probably one inone, isn't it?
I guess.
(27:02):
Um, but yeah, it's I mean thatwas fantastic news because we
all agree, like we love the guydown in uh BS3, don't we?
So it's great to have the mulletaround for a bit longer.
SPEAKER_01 (27:14):
Well, I don't know
if you saw the the kind of
social media ring last night.
It was uh it was a kind of younglad who actually going into a
fancy barber's in Clifton andthen sort of says, I'll have
what he wants, or something likethat.
And then you kind of see thisbarber cutting out a mullet, and
then it's just classic, it pansaway, and there's his like his
(27:35):
little smile, and he goes, Oh,uh, who's next?
Or something like that.
And I loved it.
But it got me thinking thatobviously he is a proper first
team, first name on the sheetplayer.
So in this social media, theyobviously went up Clifton, found
some fancy barber at Clifton.
But I was just thinking, boys, what if one of the Academy boys
re-signed?
(27:55):
What sort of haircuttingestablishment might they use for
that?
You got any ideas, Lee?
SPEAKER_03 (28:01):
Yeah, I fall well.
I mean, these this is obviouslyfor Europe in Cameras, isn't it?
It's gotta be Dan's barber shopor famed for cutting my hair,
Lee's hair, and on on a yeah, inthe past, TC's hair as well.
That's right, and also uh ithave to be academy lads because
(28:25):
obviously Dan's prettyreasonable with his prices,
isn't he?
SPEAKER_01 (28:27):
So and I mean it's
cash only and Dan, and that's
all the academy boys get paid inas well, I imagine.
Socket money, yeah.
But there is a a lot oflisteners out there are hang are
saying, hang on, you said Lee,you said Pete, you said TC.
What about Miles?
Where do you go for your hair,Miles?
North Street, North Street,North Street, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (28:50):
So south which which
one which one?
There's about 50.
There's 15 barbers on NorthStreet.
SPEAKER_00 (28:57):
Well, there you go.
Number 40.
Number 40.
Terry.
SPEAKER_01 (29:00):
Well, look, anyway,
I'm looking at my zoom.
We've got two minutes 53 left onthis recording.
Right, right.
We've done what we achieved.
We've we've picked a team, we'vehad a bit of banter.
What else?
Anything else?
SPEAKER_03 (29:12):
One quick shout, one
quick shout out.
Go for it.
We want to keep we want to keepreiterating this, don't we?
Yeah, we want to see loads ofbearer supporters in Flanefly.
Yeah.
Oh we may get it out.
Where are we staying, boys?
We're staying in the travellodge.
No, no, I meant I meant the pub.
SPEAKER_00 (29:31):
I'm I'm telling you
in the pub.
By Sunday's pod, we'll we'llwe'll have remembered and we'll
plug it then.
SPEAKER_01 (29:37):
We're gonna do a pod
on Sunday after the Saints game,
so we'll tidy up loose endsthere.
But we were gonna we have foundthe name of a pub with the help
of another listener, and we'vedecided that we'll we'll do a
clarion call.
Anyone who fancies coming down, and I may have some spare bears
beyond bears hankies as well togive away because I've still got
a whole pile of them at home.
Um, so yeah, we'll deal withthat on Sunday.
(29:59):
Obviously, when have another podSunday.
This is very much a mini pod.
Um and Sunday hopefully we'llhave had a good good uh a good
day down at Ashton Gate.
We'll reconvene at the BristolBeer Factory Tat Room Sunday and
uh and and we'll take it fromthere and we can uh look forward
to the European games and andlook forward to the Christmas
(30:20):

So boys unless there's anythingelse you want to add I I feel
like we've covered in our myvery brief one minute thinking
before this zoom our agenda butuh it's been nice to have a
quick chat it's getting us it'skind of getting us back into to
thinking about rugby properlyexactly I think we all we all
