Now back to the action, thestory that everyone is following
Dysfunction in Big D the DallasCowboys.
What are they doing in Dallas?

(02:01):
How can Jerry Jones really beokay with what's happening and
has been happening for severalyears now?
You don't know what I mean.
Let's take a look at it Now.
This is going to be painful forall you Cowboy fans out there,

(02:22):
but I think that it's importantto see the truths in the demise.
The last time the Dallas Cowboyswon the Super Bowl was in 1995.
Y'all remember that team.
Troy Aikman, emmett Smith, michael Irving, prime Time Deion

(02:44):
Sanders.
Barry Switzer was the headcoach.
In 1996, they went 10-6, wonthe division.
Lost in the divisional round.
In 1997, they went 6-10, missedthe playoffs.

(03:04):
1998, 10-6, won the divisionbut lost in the first round.
In 1999, they went 8-8, whichwas good enough to get in the
playoffs.
Lost in the first round.
From 2000 to 2002, under DaveCampo.

(03:25):
Dallas fans remember Dave Campo5 and 11.
All three years no playoffs.
In 2003, 10 and 6 lost in thewild card round.
2004, 6 and 10, no playoffs.
2005, 9 and 7, no playoffs.
In 2006, 9 and 7 was goodenough to make the playoffs.

(03:48):
They lost in the first round.
2007, 13 and 3 lost in thedivisional round.
2008, 9 and 7 was not goodenough for the playoffs, but in
2009, they went 11 and 5 andlost in the divisional round.
In 2010, 6 and 10, no playoffs2011 to 2013,.

(04:13):
I like to refer to them as theDallas 8 and 8s because all
three years they went 8 and 8.
No playoffs 2014, 12 and 4 lostin the divisional round.
2015, 4 and 12 missed theplayoffs.
2016, 13 and 3 lost in thedivisional round.

(04:33):
2017, they were 9 and 7 did notmake the playoffs, but in 2018,
they went 10 and 6 lost in thedivisional round.
In 2019, they returned to oldform and went 8 and 8 missed the
playoffs.
2020 was a disaster.
6 and 10 missed the playoffs.
2021 through 2023, they went 12and 5.

(04:58):
Lost twice in the divisionalround and lost this year in the
first round.
Wild card series or matchup andoh yeah, in that span of
mediocrity, the Dallas Cowboyshave had seven different head
coaches.
After the game, Dax said thisabout the team and the suspicion

(05:31):
that Mike McCarthy might befired.
Take a listen.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
I've had the season that I've had because of him.
This team has had the successthat they've had because of him,
and I understand it's aboutwinning the Super Bowl and
that's the standard of theleague and, damn sure, the
standard of this place.
So I get it, but add me to thelist in that case.
So he says add him to the list.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Mike McCarthy is the reason for the team's success
and his own success this yearand that the culture or the
standard, to use his word of theleague and the team for sure

(06:22):
the team is to win Super Bowls.
Let that sink in.
It's America's team, right,it's them boys.
I don't know if Dallas fansrealize this or not the hardcore
ones will, but it's been 27years.

(06:45):
This team has not been aboutwinning Super Bowl.
It's been 27 years and JerryJones just committed to
continuing this train wreck bydeciding to keep Mike McCarthy
at least through the start ofthe final year of his contract.
Here's how I see it, folks.

(07:08):
I'd give Ray Bull call hey, mike, you get Dak for at least
one year.
We have Trey Lance on the benchwaiting for a fair shot.
We've got real weapons on thisoffense.
We need to show up the runningback position, but there'll be

(07:32):
there'll be a backs in the draft.
There will be free agents, talented free agents that can
come in and help out, but all inall, you've got weapons.
On the offensive side, yourdefense, when healthy, is one of
the top tier defenses in theleague.
We get rid of Dan Quinn.

(07:55):
Let him go find a DC that iswilling to adjust in game.
Pick a name, they're out there.
I'll give you four years.
Mike, are you in?
That's what I would do.

(08:16):
Tell me I'm wrong.
Cowboy fans, tell me I'm wrong.
But here's the problem.
I Would make that call.
Many of you may make that call,or a similar one.
Jerry Jones won't, and that For27 years has been the problem

(08:51):
in big D, the catalyst for thisdysfunction of America's team.
It's what it is.
So while we wait for theoffseason and the train works,
to that will ensue.

(09:12):
I'll be watching.
We have eight teams left in theplayoffs.
The divisional series is thisweekend and, man, they're gonna
be some great games.
I'm so looking forward to it.
I don't think there's a blowoutin any of those matchups, not
one.
I think they're all gonna bePlayoff worthy type of games.

(09:38):
But before we get into that, let's do player spotlights.
It's time for speed the clockwho are you sports talk player
spot?
All right on the list forplayer spotlight we have three

(10:00):
today all of them QB's, all ofthem on winning teams, for
obvious reasons, and the firstone is CJ Stroud.
What an incredible rookieseason this young man has had,
starting his first playoff gameat home that helps, going 16 for

(10:21):
21, throw in for 274 yards inthree touchdowns One hell of a
game for CJ Stroud.
One hell of a year.
I expect this young man to bethe league's rookie of the year
and I I would not be surprisedif he garnered a few MVP votes.
This team has definitelyoverachieved and CJ Stroud,

(10:43):
along with D'Amico Ryan, hasbeen a huge part of that.
Second on the player spotlightlist is Jordan love.
What about Jordan love?
Do you not love in this?
In this year's development Imean his development has been

(11:04):
crazy.
I heard Colin Cowherd say thisthat Jordan love, out of any
young quarterback, had made thelargest leap in the middle of a
year as far as improvement goesthat he had ever seen, and I had
to think about it and ICouldn't think of any other case

(11:24):
where this had happened.
He is 100% right in this andit's been an incredible year,
jordan loving his first playoffgame on the road Against the
mighty Dallas Cowboys.
Please hear the intentionalsarcasm.
He threw for 16, or he threw 16of 21 for 272 yards and three

(11:48):
touchdowns.
Great game, great performance.
His first game on the road in adome probably helped, but he
wasn't feeling nerves or atleast he was not showing it and
he was slinging the ball allover the all over the field.
That game was over before itever started.
It was 27 to nothing before thehalf and and most of most of

(12:13):
Dallas's score and happened ingarbage time in the second half.
So Shout out to this kid Jordanlove.
You know I would love to do acomparison on his first playoff
game to Aaron Rodgers, and weprobably will at some point, but
this kid is special and I lookforward to seeing what he does,

(12:36):
continuing on through theplayoffs and for his career.
And Last but certainly not least, the Bucks.
Baker Mayfield is on this list.
What a story.
Baker has been his fourth teamin his career after the car
crash, start, dumpster fire, start to his career in Cleveland

(12:57):
, multiple head coaches, multiple OCs being traded to the
Panthers, who virtually lefthim on the side of the road for
the Rams to pick up Bed onhimself, gave the Bucks a
discount, came in to competewith Kyle Trask, won the job and

(13:19):
has played.
I mean, with a few hiccups hereand there, mostly lights out
this year he's out of runninggame.
Despite the drops, despiteinjuries to receivers, baker
Mayfield, playing at the levelthat he's playing with, with the
tenacity that he's playing with, elevates his teammates and

(13:42):
that offense in ways that youcan't put on a stat sheet.
But Baker Mayfield, 22 for 36or 22 of 36, 337 yards and three
touchdowns absolute stud overwhat felt like the favorites.
Philly had the better year, thebetter start, the better record

(14:04):
, seemingly the better players, and Baker Mayfield leads the
Bucks to victory in the wildcard game.
So that right there, everybodyout there listening, is our
player spotlight.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Each time for beat the clock.
Who are you Sports?

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Talk Player.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Spotlight.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
All right, getting to the divisional round Very
interesting games this weekend.
Like I said, I don't think anyof them are going to be blowouts
.
I think all of them are closegames.
I think they're all really hardfought games.
There's at least going to beone thriller on the cards and

(14:57):
I'll go ahead and pick that.
That's Bill's at home versusthe Chiefs.
Josh Allen's history againstthe Chiefs is this he handles
them very well in the season, the regular season, and cannot
beat them in the playoffs.
But I'm going to pick Allen tofinally get this one in the

(15:19):
playoffs.
Here's an interesting fact thisis Mahomes' first playoff road
game in his career.
I mean that just shows howdominant this Chiefs team has
been, but also reflects thatthey've obviously taken a step

(15:40):
back.
So I'm picking Allen to finallyget one in the playoffs over
Mahomes.
I think if he protects the ballthat you know that this offense
is too explosive for thatChiefs defense and I expect this
to be a thriller, maybe anovertime game.
But I have the Bills coming outon top at home.
They are the favorites becauseof the home field, but I like

(16:05):
the Bills.
The next matchup is also in theAFC Ravens versus Texans.
I'm gonna pick the Ravensbecause if not now, then win for
this team.
I think it's time for LamarJackson to finally show that he
is the MVP Calvert Player, thathe's likely to be voted this
year and that he has been votedin the past and that all of us

(16:27):
on the outside seem to defendand protect objectively as we
watch his career develop.
Injuries have sidelined himbefore in multiple years
recently and playoffs have notbeen success stories for Lamar
Jackson.
I think it's time for him tofinally get over the hump and

(16:50):
handle his business in theplayoffs.
I just think that this Texansteam it's set up well for the
Ravens because this Texans teamhas emerged very early in their
development and found some veryearly success with this young
team.
I just don't know that they'reready for this stage of success.

(17:11):
The Texans have a huge ceilingif they stay on this path and
I'm looking forward to seeinghow it turns out for them in the
future.
But this is not their year.
It is not their turn.
The Ravens are big favorites bynine and a half.
I do expect this to be a closergame than that.
If I was betting, I would takethe Texans and I don't expect

(17:34):
the Ravens to cover.
But in the cold, in thatatmosphere up there in Baltimore
, I just think the Texans are abit out of their element and the
Ravens should win this game.
Going to the NFC, I've got the49ers over the Packers Again.
The Niners are stacked top tobottom.
Green Bay is a young and themoment may be too big.

(17:57):
It seems like an easy pick, butI do feel there's enough fight
in Green Bay.
The elements are not gonnabother them.
They play out in Lambo field, the frozen tundra, they're, you
know their.
There's.
Their stadium is just as ruckusas the 49ers stadium and so I

(18:20):
don't see the elements being abig problem for them.
I think it's just gonna beexperience.
This is a young team in GreenBay and the 49ers have been here
before and and they just seemlike a juggernaut in the NFC.
So I've got the 49ers againwinning in a pretty close game.
I would say two scores, I'd saya two-score game, two scores
late, and, and the 49ers pulledaway in the fourth To take this

(18:46):
win.
However, having said that, Iwill go on record saying this If
I had to choose an upset in theTexans and Ravens game or the
Packers 49ers game, I think thePackers have the best chance to
upset the 49ers, more so thanthe Texans over the Ravens.
And so I will not be surprisedif we come back next week to

(19:10):
evaluate this and we're talkingabout the 49ers being put out
and the Packers upsetting them.
So take that for what it'sworth.
I Would not be surprised.
But as if I was betting thisgame, I would not bet the
Packers.
And lastly, in the NFC, thematchup I certainly am waiting
for, I am taking my buccaneersand Baker Mayfield over the

(19:34):
Detroit Lions on the road.
Defense is gonna be key in thisgame.
Ball quarterback pressure who'sgonna get to the quarterback?
Who's you know who's gonnacreate havoc in the backfield?
I'm looking for the Bucks to beable to do that If the
offensive line for Tampa Bayshows up and plays a solid game,

(19:55):
keeps Baker healthy.
I think that there's some holesin this in the Detroit Lions
secondary that that can beexposed.
We certainly have the weaponsto do it if the, if those young
receivers can, can catch theball.
If Mike William I'm sorry MikeWilliams Mike Evans Doesn't fall
into this, this pattern ofuncharacteristic drops that he

(20:15):
found himself in last week, Ithink that there's a lot of
opportunities to expose thisDetroit secondary and I'm
looking for Baker Mayfield andco to do that.
So I've got the Bucks Over theLions, which will be considered
an upset.
Considering the seating, however, this is a really close
matchup.
It was a.
It was a really good regularseason game.

(20:36):
I am going to take the Bucksbecause, yes, the Bucks revenge
tour is still going.
I look I'm looking towardgetting out of Detroit and
heading to San Francisco andcontinuing the tour there.
So that's my picks.
Go on social media.
Let me know what you think.
Leave comments in the in theshow.
I'm open to them.

(20:58):
I'll respond to as many as Ican try to respond to all of
them, you know.
But there is a section in the,in the show description, for
leaving comments and reviews andthings like that.
And let's, let's talk about, start the conversation, let me
hear your voice.
But yeah, it's a short show.
Today All I can say is I can'twait to get back on here next
week and talk about the outcomesof these games.

(21:19):
No matter what, I'm expectingreally close, old-school, tough
nose football out of all ofthese games and I am here for it
.
