This week I dive into the History of Black Hair with Tracey Overbey. Tracey has been a client of mine for the last few years and I always enjoy our conversations. As someone with a wealth of information as a librarian, Tracey is sharing her research surrounding Black Hair - the misconceptions, meanings, traditions and more.

Tracy is an Assistant Professor and Social Sciences Academic Librarian at The Ohio State University Libraries. Her main areas of research are in Social Justice issues particularly around Food Deserts in urban areas, exploring Black students’ relationships with libraries and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education for underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Tracey also has a book she co-wrote with Dr. Amanda Folk called Narratives of (Dis)Engagement: Exploring Black and African American Students’ Experiences in Libraries. She also recently lead and spoke at a natural hair event in Cleveland, Ohio and is passionate about ancient African history.

We will be coming back for a Part 2 to this episode as there is so much to discuss and share! If you have any questions or comments about this subject, (or any others) please shoot me an email at AmbushedCurlAcademy@gmail.com and Tracey and I would love to include your thoughts and questions in Part 2!
