Speaker 1 (00:11):
Hey, my friends,
today we are going to be talking
about a topic that cutsstraight to the core of how we
see ourselves and the worldaround us.
It's all about the stories thatwe tell ourselves.
These stories can either buildus up or tear us down, but
here's the key these stories areoften based on how we interpret
(00:34):
our experiences, notnecessarily the truth.
So today we're going to unpackthis idea and I'll show you how
Scripture can help you rewritethe narrative of your life.
Let's take a look at Romans12.2.
It says Do not conform to thepattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing ofyour mind.
(00:55):
Then you will be able to testand approve what God's will is
His good, pleasing and perfectwill.
What this tells us is that ourstories that we tell ourselves
can change.
How?
By renewing our minds, byaligning our thoughts with God's
truth.
We have a choice we can listento what the world tells us,
(01:19):
maybe verbally, maybe throughsocial norms or social
expectations, or we can listento what God's Word says about us
.
Sometimes it's simply whatwe're telling ourselves without
even realizing it.
So how do we renew our minds?
Well, first of all, we need toidentify the lies.
Think about some of thenegative stories that you've
(01:41):
been repeating to yourself.
Maybe it's something someonetold you years ago, maybe it's
the weight of your past mistakes.
But here's the thing Lies willnever hold up to truth.
The truth will always prevailand the ultimate truth comes
(02:01):
from God's Word.
John 8 32 says then you willknow the truth and the truth
will set you free.
God's truth frees us from thelies that we tell ourselves and
the lies that we hear fromothers.
For example, if your story isI'm just not enough, god says in
(02:23):
Psalm 139, 14, you arefearfully and wonderfully made.
If your story is I've messed uptoo much, then God says in
Isaiah 118, though your sins arelike scarlet, they shall be
white as snow.
If your story is I'm alone inthis, well, god promises in
(02:46):
Deuteronomy 31.8,.
The Lord himself goes beforeyou and he will be with you.
He will never leave you, norforsake you.
Look, the more you read theBible, the more you see how God
tends to choose those you atleast expect.
That's what keeps me going.
Remember, it's not howqualified you are.
(03:08):
It's all about whether youbelieve what God says or you
believe what the world says.
Now, once you identify the lies.
The next step is to rewrite yourstory with God's truth, and
here's where it gets reallypractical.
Every time you catch yourselffalling into the old narrative,
pause and ask yourself First ofall, is this true, or is it just
(03:33):
how I'm feeling right now?
Two, what does God's wordactually say about this
situation?
For example, let's say you'retelling yourself I'll never
succeed.
Stop, recognize that this is afeeling, not a fact.
Replace that thought withPhilippians 4.13, which says I
(03:57):
can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
Write that verse down, keep itsomewhere where you can see it
and repeat it every time doubtcreeps in.
Now, this isn't just aboutpositive thinking.
It's about anchoring your mindto the unchanging promises of
(04:18):
God.
Okay, here's what happens whenyou rewrite your story.
Here's what happens when yourewrite your story.
You begin to walk in theidentity that God has given you,
and that changes everything.
2 Corinthians 5.17 says Ifanyone is in Christ, the new
creation has come, the old hasgone, the new is here.
(04:40):
Man, that's great.
Your past mistakes Gone, yourinsecurities, they don't define
you.
Your future, well, it's inGod's hands, and his plans are
always good.
When you embrace this truth, you'll find a new sense of
(05:00):
freedom, a new sense of purpose, and you'll have a new sense of
peace.
So here's my challenge to youFor today take one negative
story that you've been tellingyourself, just one.
Write it down and then find averse that speaks God's truth
over that lie.
Let that be the verse thatbecomes your anthem throughout
(05:28):
this next week, and keep doingthis until the lies that you
hear are squashed by God'spromises.
Then move on to the next liethat you keep telling yourself.
Write it down, find a promisefrom God's Word that defeats
that lie and hit.
Repeat.
Keep doing that until thenarrative changes.
Hey, if this message resonateswith you, share it with someone
(05:51):
who might need it.
Let's be a community thatreminds one another of the truth
when the lies get loud.
Living in secret fear that isbased on lies will only keep us
immobilized, and God wants us tobe free from fear and lies.
Be determined to listen toGod's good plan for you.
(06:12):
Hey, thank you for tuning in toBehind the Mic podcast.
Until next time, keep rewritingyour story with God's truth.
You are loved, you are enoughand your story isn't over yet.
Remember that.
