Hi — I'm Laurie Gunning Grossman, host of Being Home With Hunker. For this last episode of the year, I wanted to replay a conversation I had with interior designer, HGTV star, furniture designer, and author Leanne Ford about the launch of her new print magazine, Feel Free.
So why this particular podcast conversation?
As we enter into the new year, many of us have dreams, goals, and intentions of things we want to create or experience in the year ahead.
It’s a moment of great momentum—and I think that what Leanne represents, and what her magazine represents, is the freedom that comes when we give ourselves permission to take chances, to say yes, to be okay with not being perfect. Like, it’s okay to make mistakes … as long as we’re trying.
As she says in this conversation, “What's this perfection thing we're all aiming for?"
She says, “Raise your hand if you've done it. Who's perfect? So let's just cool it.” She goes on to recite a quote from the John Steinbeck book East of Eden which is, "Now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good."
So, if you’ve wanting to try something new or to take a chance on an idea that you’ve been sitting on, no matter what it is, listen to this episode. It’s pure inspiration. And then, after you’re done, take one step in that direction of your dream or creative idea.

Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage
Rewarded for bravery that goes above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor is the United States’ top military decoration. The stories we tell are about the heroes who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism and courage that have saved lives. From Judith Resnik, the second woman in space, to Daniel Daly, one of only 19 people to have received the Medal of Honor twice, these are stories about those who have done the improbable and unexpected, who have sacrificed something in the name of something much bigger than themselves. Every Wednesday on Medal of Honor, uncover what their experiences tell us about the nature of sacrifice, why people put their lives in danger for others, and what happens after you’ve become a hero. Special thanks to series creator Dan McGinn, to the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Adam Plumpton. Medal of Honor begins on May 28.
