verse, wherever you are in theworld.
Thank you for joining.
Grab a glass of water, a cup ofcoffee or tea and let's get
into today's lesson.
All right, all right, I hopeyou all are doing well.

(00:34):
Welcome back to barren's corner.
On this easter eve, resurrectionsunday, whatever you may want
to call it, I call it the daythat our Lord raised from the
dead and proved once and for allthat he is God in the flesh.
I want to do something thisEaster 2025 and I want to go

(00:55):
through the four gospels andtalk about the resurrection
account from each writer of thefour gospels.
Now we will start with Matthew.
Now, as many of you know, matthew was one of the twelve
disciples chosen by Jesus and hehad an account of the
resurrection.
So, if you want to read alongwith me, we're starting out with

(01:16):
Matthew in the 28th chapter, and in the 28th chapter we are
talking about Jesus being risenand we are going to look at
verses 1 through 15.
Matthew 28, verse 1.
Now, after the Sabbath, I'mgoing to stop right there.
This is for those the criticsout there who say that I've

(01:39):
actually heard some nonsenseJust actually just three days
ago that there are people sayingthat Jesus rose on Monday, that
he didn't rise on the first dayof the week.
Well, we all know that theSabbath is the end of the week
and Sunday is the first day ofthe week.
Saturday and Sunday, as you andI may know it.
But what does Matthew say inchapter 28, in verse 1, now

(02:02):
after the sabbath?
Well, that is that would besunday, as it began to dawn
towards the first day of theweek.
There's more of your proof it'sbeginning to be dawn on the
first day of the week.
Mary, magdalene and the othermary came to look at the grave
and behold, a severe earthquakehad occurred, for an angel of

(02:22):
the Lord descended from heavenand came and rolled away the
stone and sat upon it, and hisappearance was like lightning
and his garment is white as snowand the guards shook for fear
of him and became like dead men.
And the angel answered and saidto the women do not be afraid,
for I know that you are seekingfor Jesus, who has been

(02:45):
crucified.
He is not here.
He has risen.
Just as he said, come see theplace where he was lying.
Go quickly, tell his disciplesthat he has risen from the dead.
And behold, he is going beforeyou, and to Galilee.
There you will see him.
Behold, I have told you.
And they departed quickly fromthe tomb with fear and great joy

(03:09):
and ran to report it to hisdisciples.
This would be the women runningto tell the disciples what they
just saw with their own eyes.
Behold, jesus met them andgreeted them, and they came up
and took hold of his feet andworshiped him.
Then jesus said to them do notbe afraid, go and take word to
my brethren to leave for galilee, and there they shall see me.

(03:32):
Now, while they were on theirway, behold, some of the guard
came into the city and reportedto the chief priest all that had
happened.
And when they had assembledwith the elders and counseled
together, they gave a large sumof money to the soldiers and
said you are to say hisdisciples came by night and
stole him away while we wereasleep, and if this should come

(03:56):
to the governor's ears, we willwin him over and keep you out of
trouble.
And they took the money and didas they had been instructed.
And this story was widelyspread among the Jews and is to
this day.
Now, from Matthew's account, wesee what happened.
There were soldiers there whoactually saw this happen.
They saw the earthquake and theangel which rolled away the

(04:17):
stone.
They fell as dead men and theyran off as pretty much any sane
person would.
Most people would not standthere if they see a being that
they know is not human sittingup on a stone, especially sit up
on a stone of a man that theyare guarding, because it was
said that he's going to rise onthe third day.
Instead, they go and tell themen of the city the elders of

(04:40):
the city, if you will, andbecause they wanted to keep the
truth from being known, theygave these men money and said
listen, this is what you'regoing to do.
You're going to say that hisdisciples came and stole his
body, which is very interesting, because they this is the reason
why these men were on guard.
They were on guard to be surethat something like this didn't

(05:01):
happen.
Now I wonder how they explainedthat away to the people.
If someone said well, wait aminute.
You know there were two armedguards standing in front of this
tomb.
How did his disciples come andsteal the body, when they're
supposed to be men guarding thetomb and there was this huge
stone road in front of it.
They are the orders alsomentioned to the soldiers, so
you will not be in trouble.
So, in other words, if they goback and tell the governor that

(05:23):
his body is gone, he he may takeit out on these guys and say
you must have fell asleep orwalked away.
You weren't doing your job.
So now, that is the accountaccording to Matthew.
Now I want you to turn to Mark16, and we are going to look at
it from Mark's account.
Now, for any of you who don'tknow who Mark is, mark was not
one of the apostles.
Mark was a, a fellow worker, and it is believed that the

(05:46):
gospel according to Mark waseither a eyewitness notes that
he took from Peter, or it wasnotes that Peter left, that he
took and put together and wrotethis gospel.
But nonetheless, we are goingto look at Mark 16 and look at
the account coming from Mark, through the eyes of Peter, of
the resurrection, and we arelooking at verses 1 through 13

(06:07):
of Mark 16.
And when the Sabbath was over.
There we go again Now.
This is two of the gospelwriters when the Sabbath was
over, mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James, and Salome,
brought spices that they mightcome and anoint him.
They were going to go andanoint Jesus' body and very
early on the first day of theweek, there we go again.

(06:27):
The first day of the week theycame to the tomb when the sun
had risen and they were sayingto one another who will roll
away the stone for us from theentrance of the tomb?
Good question, these women aregoing to anoint the body and
they want to know who's going toroll away this stone.
And looking up, they saw thestone had been rolled away,
although it was extremely large, and entering the tomb they saw

(06:49):
a young man sitting at the rightwearing a white robe, and they
were amazed.
And he said to them do not beamazed, you are looking for
Jesus, the Nazarene who has beencrucified.
He has risen.
He is not here.
Behold, here's the place wherethey laid him.
But go tell his disciples andpeter, he is going before you
into galilee.
There you will see him, just ashe said to you.

(07:11):
Now, mark matthew and mark bothhave said that jesus is going
into galilee verse 8 and theywent out and fled from the tomb,
for trembling and astonishmenthad gripped them and they said
nothing to anyone for they wereafraid.
Now, after he had risen earlyon the first day of the week, he
first appeared to marymagdalene, from whom he had cast

(07:32):
out seven demons.
He went excuse me, she went andreported to those who had been
with him while they weremourning and weeping, and when
they heard that he was alive andhad seen and was seen by her,
they refused to believe it.
And after that he appeared in adifferent form to two of them
while they were walking alongtheir way to the country, and

(07:55):
they went away and reported tothe others, but they did not
believe them either.
Now, this is two accounts ofthe resurrection from two
different sets of eyes.
Now we are going to go to Luke,so turn to Luke, and I believe
it's 24 that I want.
I will tell you in just asecond when I get my spot back.

(08:18):
Yes, luke 24, so turn to Luke24.
Now.
Luke was a physician, was aphysician, and Luke was the only
non-jew to write in this newtestament.
He wrote one of these gospelsand writing in the new testament
and we are going to be lookingat verses 1 through 12 of Luke
24.
Now you know that Luke wentaround and got this account of

(08:40):
Jesus coming back from actualeyewitnesses and he reported it.
So let's see what Luke had tosay.
But early on the first day ofthe week, luke has even said
that at early dawn they came tothe tomb bringing the spices
which they had prepared.
He doesn't say the women, butwe know from the other two
accounts that he's talking aboutthe women.
And they found the stone rolledaway from the tomb.

(09:02):
But when they entered they didnot find the body of the lord
jesus.
And it happened that while theywere perplexed about this,
behold two men suddenly stoodnear them in dazzling apparel
and as the women were terrifiedand bowed their faces to the
ground, the men said to them whydo you seek the living one
among the dead?
He is not here, but he hasrisen.
Remember how he spoke to youwhile he was still in galilee,

(09:25):
saying that the son of man mustbe delivered into the hands of
sinful men and be crucified andthe third day rise again.
And they remembered his wordsand returned to the tomb and
reported all these things to the11 and to all the rest.
Now they were Mary Magdaleneand Joanna and Mary, the mother

(09:45):
of James, also the other womenwith them, were telling these
things to the apostles and thesewords appear to them as
nonsense as they would notbelieve them.
Now, even after three and ahalf years, and Jesus has told
the apostles these things, whatthese women are telling them
still sounds like nonsense intheir ears.
So it appears to me that theseapostles didn't even believe

(10:06):
that he was going to raise, likehe said he would, because, like
Luke said right here, they seemlike nonsense to them.
Chapter 24, verse 12.
But Peter arose and ran to thetomb, stooping and looking in,
he saw the linen wrappings only, and he went away to his home
marveling at what had happened.
So Peter ran along to see itfor himself, to see it with his

(10:29):
own eyes, and when he got therehe didn't see the body, only the
linen wrapping, and basicallyhe walked away, you know,
basically shaking his head, wondering you know what is going
on.
Now it's very interesting thathe didn't go back and say, hmm,
the Lord did what he said, butinstead he walked away confused.
Then we're going to go to John, the first gospel.

(10:50):
Now, as you all know, john isone of Jesus' apostles and we're
going to be looking at John, chapter 20 if you want to join
me there John chapter 20, andwe're going to be looking at
verses 1 through 18.
Now we would get theresurrection account from John
now, on the first day of theweek.
Stop right there.

(11:10):
Now all four writers of thegospels said what this happened
on when the first day of theweek.
That's something that can't bedisputed.
Mary Magdalene came early tothe tomb, while it was still
dark, and saw the tomb, excuseme, the stone already taken away
from the tomb, and so she ranto Simon Peter and to the tomb
while it was still dark, and sawthe tomb, excuse me, the stone,
already taken away from thetomb.
And so she ran to simon peterand to the other disciple whom
jesus loved, that would be johnand said to them they have taken

(11:32):
away the lord out of the tomband we do not know where they
have laid him.
Peter therefore went forth andthe other disciple and they were
going to the tomb.
Now, if you look at verse twoagain, it says and I'm sorry
this, if you look at verse verseone mary magdalene came early
in the morning, while it wasstill dark, and saw the tomb had
already been taken away and sheran and came to simon, peter

(11:54):
and john.
Okay, so mary magdalene isrunning to tell them what's
going on.
Verse three peter thereforewent forth and the other
disciple and they were going tothe tomb and the two were
running together and the otherdisciple ran ahead faster than
Peter and came to the tomb firstand, stooping and looking in,
he saw the linen wrappings lyingthere, but he did not go in.

(12:15):
That would be John.
He looked in, he saw thewrappings laying there, nobody,
but he didn't go in.
Verse 6 Simon Peter thereforealso came following them and
entered the tomb and he beheldthe linen wrappings lying there
and the face cloth which hadbeen on his head, not lying with
the linen wrappings but rolledup in a place by itself.

(12:36):
So the other disciple, who hadfirst come to the tomb, entered
then also and and saw andbelieved.
Now John got there first andall he did was stoop and look in
.
Peter got there and ran rightinside.
After Peter went inside, thenJohn went inside.
Verse 9.
For as yet they did notunderstand the scripture that he

(12:56):
must rise again from the dead.
So the disciples went awayagain to their own homes.
But Mary was standing outsidethe tomb weeping, and so she
wept, she stooped and lookedinto the tomb.
Now Mary is back with them.
And now she looked into thetomb and she beheld two angels
in white sitting, one at thehead and one at the feet where

(13:17):
the body of Jesus had beenlaying.
And they said to woman why areyou weeping?
She said to them, because theyhave taken away my Lord and I do
not know where they have laidhim.
When she has said this, sheturned around and beheld Jesus
standing there and did not knowthat it was Jesus.
Okay, her eyes haven't beenopen yet.

(13:38):
Now she knows who Jesus is, sheknows what he looks like, but
she turns around and look atthis man and didn't realize that
she was talking to the Lordhimself.
Verse 15,.
Jesus said to her woman why areyou weeping?
Whom are you seeking?
Supposing him to be thegardener?
She said to him sir, if youhave carried him away, tell me
where you have laid him and Iwill take him, and I will take

(14:00):
him away, and I will take himand I will take him away.
Jesus said to her Mary.
She turned and said to him inHebrew Rabbi Nye, which means
teacher.
Now, she didn't know that shewas talking to Jesus, but then,
when he said her name, sheturned and knew she was talking
to the Lord, verse 17,.
Jesus said to her stop clingingto me, for I have not yet
ascended to the father, but goto my brethren and say to them I

(14:25):
ascend to my father and yourfather and my God and your God.
Mary Magdalene came announcingto the disciples I have seen the
Lord and that he has said thesethings to her, so she goes back
and repeat the things that theLord says to her and that right
there is the gospel from allfour accounts from the apostle
Matthew, the apostle John, fromLuke, the physician, and from

(14:51):
Mark, who was I'm sorry, excuseme and from Mark, who got the
account from Peter.
Now, this is very important andthis is the biggest, most
important thing in our faith, because jesus rising from the
dead proves everything that hesaid he was.
It proves that he is theancient of days, it proves the

(15:11):
prophecies that were said abouthim in the old testament, and
him rising from the grave provesto everyone that he is god, he
is the lord, and that what hedid was finished.
The veil was ripped from top tobottom and he became the
mediator between us and the Lord.
No longer did we need thepriest to be the mediator, the

(15:31):
high priest.
No longer did any one of us,the Jews, or even us down the
line, have to sacrifice any typeof animals or anything.
We could go directly to thelord in jesus name, and that's
why we celebrate this easter.
Like I said earlier, some of youmay call it resurrection sunday
.
Whatever you want to call it isthe day that we celebrate that

(15:52):
the lord rose from the grave.
All right, that is all for thisone.
I hope that you all have agreat sunday.
I hope that you got somethingout of this lesson.
As always, pray for me that Icontinue the race and we get
through these scriptures and wejust keep these lessons coming,
and I am praying for you as well.
