Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Berean's Corner, the podcast where we go
through books of the Biblechapter by chapter and verse by
verse, wherever you are in theworld.
Thank you for joining.
Grab a glass of water, a cup ofcoffee or tea.
And nine the title of today'slesson is the passover.

(00:34):
Now, the last time we weretogether we looked at the seven
lampstands in Numbers, chapter 8.
Today we are looking at thePassover, and we have broke the
Passover down into three parts.

(00:55):
Part one the Passoverinstructions.
We see this in verses onethrough five.
Thus the Lord spoke to Moses inthe wilderness of Sinai as
always, we see who the Lord isspeaking to In the first month
of the second year, after theyhad come out of the land of
Egypt, saying Now, let the sonsof Israel observe the Passover

(01:18):
at its appointed time, on thefourteenth day of this month, at
twilight.
You shall observe it at hisappointed time.
You shall observe it accordingto all his statutes and
according to all his ordinances.
So moses told the sons ofisrael to observe the passover.
And they observed the passoverin the first month, on the 14th

(01:39):
day of the month, at twilight inthe wilderness of Sinai,
according to all that the Lordhad commanded Moses, so the sons
of Israel did.
Now I would like to point outthe first Passover.
So they're having a Passoverhere, but I would like to point
out the first Passover.
Keep your finger here and goleft in your Bible, back to
Exodus, and go to Exodus, chapter 12.

(02:01):
Exodus, chapter 12.
Let's look at verses 1 through13.
Now the Lord said to Moses andAaron in the land of Egypt this
month shall be the beginning ofmonths for you.
It is to be the first month ofthe year of excuse me, year to

(02:24):
you.
Speak to all the congregationof israel saying on the 10th of
this month, they are each one totake a lamb for themselves,
according to their father'shousehold, a lamb for each
household.
Now, if the household is toosmall for a lamb, then he and
his neighbor nearest to hishouse are to take one according

(02:44):
to the number of persons in them, according to what each man
should eat.
You are to divide the lamb.
Your lamb shall be anunblemished male, a year old.
You may take it from the sheepor from the goats, and you shall
keep it until the 14th day ofthe same month.
Then the whole assembly of thecongregation of israel is to
kill it at twilight.

(03:05):
Moreover, they shall take someof the blood and put it on the
two doorposts, on the lintel ofthe house in which they eat it.
And they shall eat the fleshthat same night, roasted with
fire, and they shall eat it withunleavened bread and bitter
herbs.
Do not eat any of it raw orboil at all with water, but
rather roast it with fire, bothhis head and his legs, with his

(03:29):
entrails, and you shall leave it, excuse me, and you shall not
leave any of it over untilmorning.
But whatever is left of ituntil morning, you shall burn
with fire.
Now you shall eat it in thismanner, with your loins girded,
your sandals on your feet andyour staff in your hand, and you
shall eat it in haste.

(03:49):
It is the Lord's Passover, for Iwill go through the land of
Egypt on that night and willstrike down all the firstborn in
the land of Egypt, both man andbeast, and against all gods of
Egypt.
I will execute judgments.
I am the Lord, and the bloodshall be a sign for you on the
houses where you live.
And when I see the blood, Iwill pass over you and no plague

(04:11):
will befall you to destroy youwhen I strike the land of egypt
and that it was to be observedin the promised land.
So we stand in chapter 12.
Drop down to verse 24, exodus12.
Drop down to verse 24, and youshall observe this event as an
ordinance for you and yourchildren forever.
And it will come about when youenter the land which the lord

(04:35):
will give you, as he has apromise that you shall observe
this right.
So we see that they're in thepas, passover now, and we look
back at the first Passover.
Now we'll move on to the secondpart, back to Numbers 9.
The people must be clean.
So instructions was given forthe people to be clean.

(04:55):
We see this in verses 6 through14.
But there were some men whowere unclean because of the dead
person, so that they could notobserve Passover on that day,
excuse me.
So they came before moses andaaron on that day and those men
said to him though we areunclean because of the dead
person, why are we restrainedfrom presenting the offering of

(05:19):
the lord at his appointed timeamong the sons of israel?
Moses therefore said to themwait, and I will listen to what
the lord will command concerningyou.
Then the lord spoke to m sayingSpeak to the sons of Israel,
saying If any one of you or ofyour generation becomes unclean
because of a dead person or itis on a distant journey, you may

(05:42):
, however, observe the Passoverto the Lord In the second month,
on the fourteenth day attwilight.
They shall observe it.
They shall eat it withunleavened bread and bitter
herbs.
They shall leave none of ituntil morning, nor break a bone
of it.
According to all the statutesof the Passover, they shall
observe it.
But the man who is clean and isnot on a journey and yet

(06:05):
neglects to observe the Passover, that person shall then be cut
off from his people, for he didnot present the offering of the
lord at his appointed time.
That man shall bear his sin.
And if an alien sojourns amongyou and observes the passover to
the lord, according to thestatute of the passover and
according to his ordinance, sohe shall do.

(06:27):
You shall have one statute, both for the alien and for the
native of the land.
You shall have one statue bothfor the alien and for the native
of the land.
So we see that the Lord'sPassover was not only for the
people of the land, but it couldalso be for an alien, which
brings us to part three, thecloud and the tabernacle.
We see this in verses 15through 23.

(06:47):
Now, on the day that thetabernacle was erected, the
cloud covered the tabernaclewith the tent of the testimony,
and in the evening it was likethe appearance of fire over the
tabernacle into the morning.
So I'm going to freeze rightthere for a second.
I believe that not only did theLord do it to give them some
sense of light, but he did toshow his presence, and I believe

(07:09):
he also did it for heat Verse16.
So it was continuously thecloud will cover it by day and
the appearance of fire by nightremember, the cloud in the day
would give them shade and itwould give them guidance on
where to walk.
The pillar of fire by nightgave them warmth and a covering
verse 17.
And whenever the cloud waslifted from over the tent

(07:31):
afterwards, the sons of israelwould then set out.
And in the place whenever thecloud was lifted from over the
tent afterwards, the sons ofisrael would then set out.
And in the place where theclouds settled down there, the
sons of israel would camp.
I'm gonna stop again.
This is not like the clouds wesee in the sky that are
constantly moving.
What israel would do is thiswas a particular cloud.
They knew it was the lord.
You know how they knew, becausewherever, wherever the clouds

(07:52):
stopped, they would stop and thecloud would not move you and I
have never seen a cloud just sitstill.
Verse 18 at the command of theLord, the sons of Israel was set
out and at the command of theLord, they would camp as long as
the cloud settled over thetabernacle.
They remain camp, like I justsaid, wherever the cloud would
stop, that's where they wouldstop.

(08:12):
Even when the cloud lingeredover the tabernacle for many
days, the sons of israel wouldkeep the lord's charge and not
set out.
If sometimes the cloud remaineda few days over the tabernacle,
according to the command of thelord, they remain camped.
Then, according to the commandof the lord, they set out.
If sometimes the cloud remainedfrom evening until morning,

(08:35):
when the cloud was lifted in themorning, they would move out.
Or if it remained in thedaytime and at night, whenever
the cloud was lifted, they wouldset out, still saying the same
thing.
You know they would stay putwhen they need to stay put and
they will move when the cloudmoved.
Put when they need to stay putand they will move when the
cloud moved.
Rather, it was two days or amonth or a year that the cloud

(08:56):
lingered over the tabernacle, stained above it.
The sons of Israel remainedcamped and did not set out, but
when it was lifted they did setout.
Whether it was a month, acouple of months, half a year or
a year, they stayed put.
That was the miraculous signthat the Lord gave them.
They had a cloud over them thatnever moved and they didn't
move into the cloud move.
We close with verse 23.

(09:17):
At the command of the lord theycamped, and at the command of
the Lord they set out.
They kept the Lord's chargeaccording to the commandment of
the Lord, through Moses and, aswe know, of Israel in this time.
That is how the Lord spoke tothem.
He spoke to them through hisservant, moses.
All right, that brings us tothe end of Numbers, chapter nine

(09:42):
.
As always, I am praying for youand I am thankful for each and
every one of you, and I ask thatyou do the same for me, that we
stay strong and we continue togo through these scriptures
chapter by chapter and verse byverse.
That's all for now, god bless.
