Speaker 2 (00:32):
Thank you for joining
me welcome back.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Open your bible to
numbers chapter 18.
The title of today's lesson isduties of levites, numbers
chapter 18, and let's readNumbers 18.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
The Lord said to
Aaron you, your sons and your
father's family are to bear theresponsibility for offenses
against the sanctuary, and youand your sons alone are to bear
the responsibility for offensesagainst the priesthood.
Bring your fellow Levites fromyour ancestral tribe to join you
and assist you when you andyour sons minister before the
(01:09):
tent of the testimony.
They are to be responsible toyou and are to perform all the
duties of the tent, but theymust not go near the furnishings
of the sanctuary or the altaror both they and you will die.
They are to join you and beresponsible for the care of the
tent of meeting, all the work atthe tent, and no one else may
(01:32):
come near where you are.
You are to be responsible forthe care of the sanctuary and
the altar, so that wrath willnot fall on the Israelites again
.
I myself have selected yourfellow Levites from among the
Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the Lord, to do the
work at the tent of meeting.
But only you and your sons mayserve as priests in connection
(01:55):
with everything at the altar andinside the curtain.
I am giving you the service ofthe priesthood as a gift.
Anyone else who comes near thesanctuary must be put to death.
Then the Lord said to Aaron Imyself have put you in charge of
the offerings presented to me.
All the holy offerings theIsraelites give me, I give to
(02:16):
you and your sons as yourportion and regular share.
You are to have the part of themost holy offerings that is
kept from the fire, from all thegifts they bring me as most
holy offerings, whether grain orsin or guilt offerings, that
part belongs to you and yoursons.
Eat it as something most holy.
Every male shall eat it.
(02:37):
You must regard it as holy.
This also is yours.
Whatever is set aside from thegifts of all the wave offerings
of the Israelites, I give thisto you and your sons and
daughters as your regular share.
Everyone in your household whois ceremonially clean may eat it
.
I give you all the finest oliveoil and all the finest new wine
(02:58):
and grain they give the Lord asthe firstfruits of their
harvest.
All the land's firstfruits thatthey bring to the Lord will be
(03:18):
yours.
1 Peter 3, verses 1-10.
Is yours, but you must redeemevery firstborn son and every
firstborn male of uncleananimals when they are a month
old.
You must redeem them at theredemption price set at five
shekels of silver, according tothe sanctuary shekel, which
weighs twenty geras.
But you must not redeem thefirstborn of an ox, a sheep or a
(03:42):
goat.
They are holy.
Sprinkle their blood on thealtar and burn their fat as an
offering made by fire, an aromapleasing to the Lord.
Their meat is to be yours, justas the breast of the wave
offering and the right thigh areyours.
Whatever is set aside from theholy offerings the Israelites
present to the Lord, I give toyou and your sons and daughters
(04:03):
as your regular share.
It is an everlasting covenantof salt to the Lord.
I give to you and your sons anddaughters as your regular share
.
It is an everlasting covenantof salt before the Lord for both
you and your offspring.
The Lord said to Aaron you willhave no inheritance in their
land, nor will you have anyshare among them.
I am your share and yourinheritance among the Israelites
.
I am your share and yourinheritance among the Israelites
(04:27):
.
I give to the Levites all thetithes in Israel as their
inheritance in return for thework they do while serving at
the Tent of Meeting.
From now on, the Israelitesmust not go near the Tent of
Meeting or they will bear theconsequences of their sin and
will die.
It is the Levites who are to dothe work at the tent of meeting
and bear the responsibility foroffenses against it.
(04:48):
This is a lasting ordinance forthe generations to come.
They will receive noinheritance among the Israelites
.
Instead, I give to the Levitesas their inheritance the tithes
that the Israelites present asan offering to the Lord.
That is why I said concerningthem they will have no
(05:08):
inheritance among the Israelites.
The Lord said to Moses Speak tothe Levites and say to them
when you receive from theIsraelites the tithe I give you
as your inheritance, you mustpresent a tenth of that tithe as
the Lord's offering.
Your offering will be reckonedto you as grain from the
threshing floor.
You must present a tenth ofthat tithe as the Lord's
offering.
Your offering will be reckonedto you as grain from the
(05:29):
threshing floor or juice fromthe winepress.
In this way, you also willpresent an offering to the Lord
from all the tithes you receivefrom the Israelites.
From these tithes, you mustgive the Lord's portion to Aaron
, the priest.
You must present as the Lord'sportion the best and holiest
part of everything given to you.
Say to the Levites when youpresent the best part, it will
(05:53):
be reckoned to you as theproduct of the threshing floor
or the wine press.
You and your households may eatthe rest of it anywhere, for it
is your wages for your work atthe tent of meeting.
By presenting the best part ofit, you will not be guilty in
this matter.
Then you will not defile theholy offerings of the israelites
and you will not die now.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
The last time we were
together we looked at the
button of aaron's rod, which wasa sign given to the Lord to
show the grumbling people whoGod put in charge.
Today we are looking at theduties of the Levites.
Now this chapter is focusing onthe serious business of the
church leader and what he doesand or allows in the sanctuary.
(06:39):
Now, at the time I am studyingthis chapter and going through
this book of numbers in thisparticular area, there are
things happening in theChristian world that show how
unserious some of these quoteunquote Christian leaders are.
There is a guy named Mike Toddwho I saw getting his hair cut
during a sermon.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Now.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
I'm going to be
straight up with you.
No, I did not listen to thewhole sermon.
No, I didn't sit down anddissect it.
I saw this man on the in thepulpit in front of a church, in
front of his congregation, getting a haircut while he was
supposed to be teaching the wordof God.
No, I don't know the context.
To be honest, I don't care whatthe context was.
(07:20):
I don't need to listen to thewhole thing to know what he was
tying it into.
There has to be a reverencewhen you are in the house of the
Lord, at least the buildingthat you claim to be the house
of the Lord.
Another heretic Jamar Bryant.
He wasted time in church thiswas at the end of 2024 talking
politics.
Now there are many more ofthese people and I'm sure that
(07:43):
you know them all, but this guywas supposed to be in church
teaching the word of God,preaching the gospel of Jesus
Christ, bringing people torepentance.
Instead, he wasted time on aSunday talking about the
election, the 2024 election, talking about what he had an
issue with.
He had an issue with thesepeople doing this.
He had an issue with peopledoing that he had an issue with.
(08:04):
He had an issue with thesepeople doing this.
He had an issue with peopledoing that, and the sad part is
is that a lot of the people inthis congregation his flock, if
you will they were championinghim standing up pumping a fish
yeah, pastor, and all all ofthat nonsense.
A lot of these emasculatedeunuch men standing up pumping
their fists.
You know, championing this onthere's supposed to be a
(08:25):
seriousness in the house of theLord.
Now, the good thing for thosepeople is that we live in a time
of grace, but during this time, during this old covenant time,
the Lord did not tolerate thatPeople have died for less in
front of the congregation.
And now we are in a chapterthat talks about how serious the
Lord takes his sanctuary andactually before, I move on there
(08:48):
was another guy actuallyrecently who I saw.
I don't know who the guy is, buthe actually recently did this
in the pulpit.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
God's shepherd.
See, that's how I know youstill poor, broke, busted and
disgusted because of how you'vebeen honoring me.
I'm not working your McDonald'smoney, come on.
I'm not worth your red lobstermoney.
I ain't worth your Saint JohnNick.
(09:18):
Y'all can't afford it.
No, how.
I ain't worth y'all LouisVuitton.
I ain't worth your product.
I'm not worth your Gucci.
You can buy a Movado watch inSam's.
Yes, you can, and y'all know.
I asked for one last year.
Here it is the whole way inAugust I still ain't got it.
(09:38):
Y'all ain't saying nothing.
Let me kick down the door andtalk to my cheap sons and
daughters.
I don't want to hear no moreexcuses about what y'all can't
afford.
You can't afford it because youdon't see the value here.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Sir, the same way
your congregation didn't see the
value there, neither do I, andI don't attend that church.
This is some of the foolishnessthat goes on in the churches
nowadays.
The quote unquote churchbecause we know that that is not
the church that the lord calledus to, to worship in and to
serve.
Now getting on to numberschapter 18.
We will break this chapter downinto four sections.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Part number one.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Aaron has been given
responsibility by God.
We see this in verses onethrough seven.
So the Lord said to Aaron youand your sons and your father's
household with you shall bearthe guilt in connection with the
sanctuary, and you and yoursons with you shall bear the
guilt in connection with yourpriesthood.
But bring with you also yourbrothers, the tribe of Levi, the
(10:41):
tribe of your father, that theymay be joined with you and
serve you while you and yoursons with you are before the
tent of the testimony.
And they shall thus attend toyour obligation and obligation
of all the tent, but they shallnot come near to the furnishing
of the sanctuary and the altar, lest both they and you die.
(11:03):
And you shall be joined, excuseme and they shall be joined
with you and attend to theobligation of the tent of
meeting for all the service ofthe tent, but an outsider may
not come near you.
So you shall attend to theobligation of the sanctuary and
the obligations of the altarthat there may no longer be
wrath on the sons of israel.
(11:24):
And behold, I myself have takenyour fellow levites from among
the sons of israel.
They are a gift to you, dedicated to the Lord, to
perform the service for the tentof meeting.
But you and your sons with youshall attend to your priesthood
for everything concerning thealtar and inside the veil and
(11:44):
you are to perform service.
I am giving you the priesthoodas a bestowed service, but the
outsider who comes near shall beput to death.
Now the Levites had theresponsibility of helping Aaron
and his sons.
What the what the Levites didwas they had services that they
had to tend to that Aaron andhis sons may or may not have
(12:08):
time to attend to.
Now the three sons of Levi weregiven responsibility.
Hold your finger right here andturn back to Numbers chapter
three, and let's look at thesesons and their responsibility.
Numbers chapter three the firstson, gershon.
We see this in verses 25 and 26.
(12:29):
Now the duties of the sons ofGershon in the tent of meeting
involved the tabernacle and thetent is covering and the screen
for the doorway of the tent ofmeeting and the hangings of the
court and the screen for thedoorway of the tent which is
around the tabernacle and thealtar and its cords, according
to all the service concerningthem.
(12:50):
So we see what Gershon hisduties were.
Son number two, kohath.
We see what he did in drop downto verse 31 now.
Their duties involve the ark,the table, the lampstand, the
altars and the utensils of thesanctuary with which they
minister, and the screen and allthe service concerning them.
(13:13):
Son number three, merari.
We see what he did in verses 36through 37.
Now the appointed duties of thesons of merari involve the
frames of the tabernacles, itsbars, its pillars, its sockets
and all this equipment and theservice concerning them, and the
pillars around the court withtheir sockets and all this
(13:33):
equipment and the serviceconcerning them, and the pillars
around the court with theirsockets and their pegs and their
cords.
So we see the duties that thesethree sons of levi were given.
Part two aaron and his sonswould be provided for by the
offering that god gave aaron tooversee.
(13:54):
We see this in verses 8 through19.
Then the lord spoke to aaron.
Now, behold, I myself have givenyou charge of my offerings,
even all the holy gifts of thesons of israel.
I have given them to you as aportion and to your sons as a
perpetual allotment.
This shall be yours from themost holy gifts reserved from
(14:15):
the fire, every offering oftheirs, even every grain
offering and every sin offeringand every guilt offering which
they shall render to me shall bemost holy for you and your sons
, as the most holy gifts.
You shall eat it.
Every male shall eat it.
It shall be holy to you.
This also is yours, theoffering of their gifts, even
(14:39):
all the wave offerings of thesons of Israel.
I have given them to you and toyour sons and daughters with
you, as a perpetual allotment.
Every one of your household isclean, may eat it.
All the best of the fresh oiland all the best of the fresh
wine and of grain, the firstfruits of those which they give
to the lord, I give them to you.
(15:02):
The first ripe fruits of allthat is in their land which they
bring to the lord shall beyours.
Every one of your household isclean, may excuse me because, or
who is clean may eat.
Every devoted thing in israelshall be yours.
Every first issue of the wombof all flesh, whether man or
animal, which they offer to thelord, shall be yours.
(15:23):
Nevertheless, the firstborn ofman you shall surely redeem, and
the firstborn of uncleananimals you shall redeem.
And as their redemption price, from a month old, you shall
redeem them by your valuationfive shekels in silver,
according to the shekel of thesanctuary, which is 20 garas.
But the firstborn of an ox orthe firstborn of a sheep or the
(15:46):
firstborn of a goat you shallnot redeem.
They are holy.
You shall sprinkle their bloodon the altar and shall offer up
their fat and smoke as anoffering by fire for a soothing
aroma to the Lord and their meatshall be yours.
It shall be yours like thebreast of a wave offering and
like the right thigh, all theofferings of the holy gifts
(16:07):
which the sons of Israel offerto the Lord.
I will eat, I'm excuse me.
I have given to you and yoursons and your daughters with you
as a perpetual allotment.
It is an everlasting government, this covenant assault before
the Lord to you and yourdescendants with you.
Now, although this is an OldTestament concept, paul the
(16:28):
apostle mentions this in the NewTestament.
Hold your finger right here andgo to First Corinthians, right
here, and go to firstcorinthians, first corinthians
I'm sorry, I went past it.
And when you get to firstcorinthians, we are looking at
(16:48):
chapter 9.
When you get there, we'll seewhere paul mentions this.
First corinthians 9.
Notice verses 13 through 14.
Do you not know that those whoperform sacred services eat the
food of the temple and those whoattend regularly to the altar
have their share with the altar?
(17:10):
So also the lord directed thosewho proclaim the gospel to get
their living from the gospel.
So what Paul was talking abouthere is exactly what's happening
here.
Aaron and his sons were thepriests, and the Lord is because
they don't have everything thateveryone else has.
The Lord is providing for themthrough the people.
(17:31):
This is how Aaron, his sons andhis daughters.
This is how they ate.
We will move on to part three.
Unlike the other tribes ofIsrael, aaron and his sons would
get no land inheritance.
We see this in verses 20through 24.
Then the Lord said to Aaron youshall have no inheritance in
their land, nor own any portionamong them.
(17:53):
I am your portion and yourinheritance among the sons of
israel and the sons of levi.
Behold, I have given all thetithe in israel for inheritance
in return for their service, which they perform, the service
of the tent of meeting, and thesons of israel shall not come
near the tent of meeting again, lest they bear sin and die.
Only the levite shall performthe service of the tent of
(18:16):
meeting and they shall beartheir iniquity.
It shall be a perpetual statutethroughout your generations and
among the sons of Israel.
They shall have no inheritanceFor the tithe of the sons of
Israel, which they offer as anoffering to the Lord.
I have given to the Levites foran inheritance.
Therefore, I have saidconcerning them they shall have
(18:36):
no inheritance among the sons ofisrael, as we mentioned, the
levites were not getting a landinheritance, but they would
inherit cities.
Hold your finger right here andgo to your right a few chapters
and go to numbers 35.
Let me show you what I'mtalking about.
Numbers 35 notice verse 7.
(18:58):
All the cities which you shallgive to the levites shall be 48
cities, together with theirpastor lands.
Pastor lands, I should say so.
No, they did not inherit land, but they did inherit cities.
Now we move on to part four.
Aaron and the priests weregiven an offering, but they were
(19:20):
to give an offering to the Lordout of the offering they
received.
We see this in verses 25through 32.
Then the Lord spoke to Mosessaying moreover, you shall speak
to the Levites and say to themwhen you take from the sons of
Israel the tithe which I havegiven you from them for your
inheritance, then you shallpresent an offering from it to
(19:42):
the Lord, a tithe of a tithe, orin other words a tenth of a
tenth.
So the Levites, excuse me, weregetting their tithe from the
people and then they weresupposed to give a tithe out of
that back to the Lord, and youroffering shall be reckoned to
you as the grain from thedressing floor or the full
produce from the wine vat.
(20:02):
You notice where they weregetting it from the grain and
the wine.
So you shall also present anoffering to the Lord from your
tithes, which you receive fromthe sons of Israel and from it
you shall give the Lord'soffering to Aaron the priest.
Out of all your gifts, youshall present every offering,
shall give the Lord's offeringto Aaron the priest.
Out of all your gifts, youshall present every offering due
to the Lord from all, the bestof them, the sacred part from
(20:23):
them, and you shall say to themwhen you have offered from it
the best of it, then the restshall be reckoned to the Levites
as the product of the threshingfloor and as the product of the
wine vat, and you may eat itanywhere, you and your
households, for it is yourcompensation in return for your
(20:45):
service in the tent of meetingand you shall bear no sin by
reason of it when you haveoffered the best of it.
But you shall not profane thesacred gifts of the sons of
Israel, lest you die.
So we see here that this is how, as I mentioned a little
earlier, this is how Aaron andhis sons ate.
(21:05):
This is actually how all theLevites ate.
This was the thing.
The Levites, their duty, was tobe always taking care of the
house of the Lord.
Remember, in previous chapterswe talked about the oil that
they had to put in the lamps andthe Lord said that the oil,
that the fire of the lamps, wasnot to die out.
This was a 24-7 job, 24-7, 365or however many days they had
(21:29):
back in their time, but in ourtime it would be 365, 24 hours a
day.
There was always Levites onduty at the temple.
The lamps never went out.
That was the whole point.
They kept oil in these lamps.
So there has to be men on dutyto make sure these things take
place, also, the things thatwere made in the temple.
This is what the Levites weredoing.
So, while the other 11 tribeswere out hunting and gardening
(21:53):
and shepherding, doing doingwhatever else it is they were
doing, the Levites were not.
The Levites were attending tothe Lord's business.
That included Aaron and hissons.
So we see that this is why theywere actually given a tithe.
They were given a tithe becausethey actually were not allowed
to work.
Now, unfortunately, in the 21stcentury that we're in now, and
(22:16):
even back in the 20th century.
There are a lot of men, evil, corrupt men some of them I
mentioned at the beginning ofthis broadcast who have taken
this and they have put theirselves in this place.
They have put themselves in theseat of Aaron and his sons and
the Levites.
These men are not Levites, these men are.
These men are heretics and theyare charlatans and what they
(22:37):
have done is they have convincedpeople that this is for them.
Well, you know, uh, we areequal to Aaron and his sons, so
we're kind of like the modernday Levites.
So you know, we are supposed toget a tide of a tide, and this,
that and the other.
Now let say this again.
I have said this before and Iwill repeat it again.
Don't get it, don'tmisunderstand what I'm saying.
(22:58):
I'm not saying that a man whoactually takes time to break
down the scriptures, a pastorwho was in a building, that it
takes money to run the building.
I am not at all saying that youdon't give.
I have said several times if youattend a church, you should
give to the church, you shouldprovide the resources.
It takes electricity to run thechurch, it takes gas to keep
(23:20):
the heat on and, you know tokeep you warm in the wintertime
the electricity provides air.
In the summer it keeps thelights on year round.
The water has to run.
Unless your church is on, is ona well.
You know a ground with a well, you have to pay the water bill
because it takes water to runthe church some churches have,
they have car ministries wherethey have a van and they go pick
(23:41):
up seniors and they go pick upkids and bring them to church.
All of those things take moneythe insurance, the people who
take care of the lawn.
So don't get it.
Don't don't misunderstand whatI'm saying.
It takes money to run and I'mnot saying that you shouldn't
give and I'm not saying thatonce a man is in ministry full
time, that you that you shouldnot give, you should not give
him something.
But what I am saying is is thatthese men are not supposed to
(24:04):
have a lifestyle like theknucklehead whose clip I played
earlier.
Talking about you know where'smy watch that I asked last year
for my birthday?
That's not what the tide wassupposed to be for.
The tide was given to Aaron andhis sons and Levites.
This is how they ate.
It wasn't for them to go outand buy new robes, to go out and
buy a new a juror in a throne,or new jewelry to put on their
(24:24):
robes.
It was for them to eat and havetheir livelihood because, like
everyone else, they have to eatas well.
So that's really what it reallywas more for.
Okay, I kind of went on a rant.
Some of you have been rollingwith me for a while.
You know how I feel aboutpeople taking advantage of other
people.
All right, that brings us tothe end of numbers, chapter 18.
I hope that you got somethingout of this lesson and you
(24:47):
enjoyed it, as always.
As always, ask, continue topray for me that I stand strong
and steadfast in the scriptures, that we get through the entire
book, and I am doing the samefor you as well.
I appreciate you all a greatdeal.
That is all for now, until nexttime, god bless.
