The Truth About My Sleep

I used to tell myself I was fine at sleeping. Not great, but fine. I’d crawl into bed around midnight, scroll for a bit, close my eyes, and hope for the best. But mornings always told the truth. My alarm would go off, and I’d hit snooze three, four times — my eyes heavy, my brain foggy, my body begging for more rest. And then I’d drag myself through the day, fueled by coffee and stubbornness.

I thought that was normal. Everyone’s tired, right? Maybe this is just adulthood.

The Suggestion I Didn’t Expect

One day, during a random conversation, a friend asked me, “Have you ever tried a silk sleep mask?”

I laughed — not in a mean way, but out of disbelief. A mask? That’s what you see in movies, on people living some kind of fancy life. How is a strip of fabric supposed to fix my chronic tiredness?

But the thing is — when you’re desperate for sleep, you’ll try anything. So I bought one. Honestly, I didn’t even expect to use it. I pictured it ending up buried in my nightstand, next to the lavender pillow spray and half-melted candles I bought in previous “fix my sleep” phases.

My First Night with the Mask

The first night, I wasn’t expecting much. I slipped it on, and the first thing I noticed was how… soft it felt. Silk is different. It’s cool, smooth, almost like a whisper on your skin.

Then something weird happened — the darkness felt softer, too. I didn’t realize how much light sneaks into my bedroom: the streetlamp outside, the glow of my charger, even the moonlight. Usually, my brain clings to those little slivers of light and stays awake. But that night, it just… let go.

I don’t remember tossing or turning. I don’t remember waking up at 3 a.m. to check the clock. I just remember opening my eyes to daylight and realizing — I actually felt rested. And I couldn’t believe something that small made such a big difference.

Why It’s Different

The thing about silk — and I didn’t know this before — is that it’s gentle. It doesn’t pull on your skin, so I wake up without those weird creases across my face. It doesn’t trap heat, so it stays cool even when the room isn’t. And maybe this is all in my head, but it feels… soothing. Like telling my brain, “Okay, it’s time to rest now.”

It’s become part of my ritual. I put on the mask, take a deep breath, and it’s like flipping a switch: work is over, tomorrow can wait, this is my time to recharge.

Outro – My Little Nighttime Secret

So yeah, that’s my secret. A silk mask, a quiet room, and permission to rest. If you’re listening to this right before bed, maybe take a second — unclench your jaw, soften your shoulders, and let yourself imagine how soft darkness can feel.

Thanks for listening to my little sleep diary. Sweet dreams.
