Roland Perez (00:01):
Our relationship
with wellness is more important
than we realize.
Complicated also.
Being in nature has shownincredible benefits for our
physical and our mental health,so the key to wellness may be
just outside.
Welcome to Better Wellness.
I'm your host, Roland Perez, and we're listening to a podcast
(00:23):
that explores the newestinnovations in true wellness.
As the executive producer ofthe American Health Journal for
more than 25 years, I'veproduced over 500 30-minute
award-winning television showsthat air nationally on PBS with
an audience of over 100 millionviewers.
But better wellness is morethan all that Not only keeping
(00:46):
your body healthy, butdeveloping a mindset and balance
that prevents illness.
Our guests are experiencedexperts in the world of staying
healthy, young and well.
Our guest today in the studiois David Delrahim, a friend and
a visionary, and an expert inwellness.
David, I wanted to talk to youabout nature, being in nature.
(01:11):
What is the importance of beingoutside versus being in your
office, being at home, beinginside?
All of a sudden, you're outside.
What's the importance of that?
David Delrahim (01:24):
Well.
Being outside versus inside.
We have certain exposures tothe outside elements that we
simply don't have it beingindoor, namingly during the day,
we have sun, we have natureoutside, we have fresh air as we
(01:50):
know it, we have breeze, weeven have certain frequencies.
A car could go by and we mightnot like to hear about it, but
it stimulates our senses to thesurroundings.
(02:10):
A bird is singing.
So there are a lot offrequencies that are going on
outside that they cannot simplyexist.
Being indoor, being indoor wood, is very limiting.
Being outdoor is unlimited, being out with the nature, which
(02:34):
is unlimited consciousness tellme about frequency.
Roland Perez (02:40):
We spoke about
frequency before the show here.
What is frequency?
It's, like you said, like themusic of nature.
David Delrahim (02:50):
Right.
So everything has a frequency, operates through frequency.
We human beings, we do havefrequency.
Even our emotional is afrequency.
We are positive versus negative.
It's a completely differentfrequency.
Going outside and hearing thebirds singing is one of the best
(03:17):
frequencies.
I call it nature's frequency.
Being in the forest, amongtrees, they do have a frequency.
It's a very soothing frequencybeing next to the ocean and the
waves.
Of course there's frequency.
Roland Perez (03:37):
I always feel
better when I said to you that I
always feel better when I go tothe beach, because there is a
lot going on at the beach.
People just think, oh, you justwalk on the beach, on the sand.
It's the feeling, the feelingof the sand underneath your feet
, and there's nothing asbeautiful as a wave crashing and
listening to the waves come andthen standing by the thing and
(04:00):
watching the water rushingtowards you.
Watching the water rushingtowards you.
David Delrahim (04:05):
Right, and so,
as you said, being outside,
whether it's out on the beach orjust going for hiking, all your
senses are working.
So, versus being indoor, what'sgoing on is either carpet or
(04:25):
wood.
Roland Perez (04:27):
Or radio or
something artificial.
David Delrahim (04:30):
Or we are in
front of the monitor, the TV,
the cell phone, all thoseartificially curated programs
for us, programmed for us, whichsometimes makes you wonder
which type of frequency you'regetting, you're receiving.
(04:51):
You're hearing versus beingoutside, which nature's
frequency is a frequency of lovePeriod?
So it's unconditional andunconditional love.
You don't have to sort throughfrequency to see which one is
good for you and which one isnot.
What is the intention behind it?
(05:13):
Am I good, am I protected?
Am I safe?
When you're with nature, you'resafe and nature is here to serve
us, human, with unconditionallove, from the birds to the
trees, to the plant, to the soil, to oceans, to sun, even at
(05:41):
night, moon.
How beautiful it is that we sitoutside, even at night, and
whether is the, whether it's thefirst night or the 14th or 15th
(06:02):
, with that beautiful round moon, all of it.
And when you close your eyesand you feel the nature, all of
it, it's like a symphony.
The trees, the ocean, therunning water, the birds are
singing, the moon is coming up.
Imagine, all of these are hereto support us as human beings,
(06:26):
for our own growth.
Unconditional love.
There's nothing that they needfrom us, nothing.
Roland Perez (06:34):
A friend of mine
went to the Grand Canyon.
He said when he stood on theedge and he saw nature 360 and
looked down and saw the riverand the cliffs and the water and
there was a wind going, he saidhe felt like he was part of
what was going on in the worldlike no other time that it was a
(06:59):
rush.
I had that same feeling thatyou just talked about.
A moment ago.
I went to a wedding in Buffalo, new York, and I went to Niagara
Falls.
I don't know if you've everbeen there, but if you stand
next to it and the water iscoming down millions of gallons
(07:19):
of water coming down, crashingdown, and there's a mist and the
sound if you're ever in nature, that's the moment.
That's a moment in nature isstanding next to Niagara Falls.
So I understand what you'resaying when you say you can walk
a river, a creek.
The sound of it is amazing, right?
David Delrahim (07:44):
So very
interesting.
So I believe it just is.
Nature is fixed, it's justfixed.
It is the human that evolveschanges.
Sometimes it's positive,sometimes it's negative,
(08:08):
sometimes it's present,sometimes it's out there
wandering.
So we are that fixed elementand we're trying to find our own
place with a fixed state.
So are we working on the nature?
(08:28):
No, it's fixed.
We are the variable.
So we got to go inward and tryto bring us in harmony which is
the word that I want to talkabout with something that is
here and it is fixed.
It is absolute.
(08:49):
Nature is part of divine fixed.
The birth is fixed, the bird isnot going to change his voice,
the bird is not going to get acrap but like a human that all
of a sudden kind of is startingto cough or not being able to
(09:15):
speak clearly.
Birth frequency is fixed, nature is fixed and everything
is aligned with the frequency oflove.
Roland Perez (09:29):
So do we sort of
harmonize with that when we go
into that space?
David Delrahim (09:37):
Well, we have
everything to do with putting
ourselves at a disharmony theway we eat, our practices,
basically the way we eat, theway we move or do not move our
body, the way we think, the waywe respond to our emotions, the
(10:03):
way we get triggered.
There are so many elements thatcan throw us off.
And nature, because it is fixedand is a very quick, easy way,
safe, secure, to harmonizeourselves, bringing ourselves
(10:28):
back to balance.
So nature is always on our side, it doesn't get emotional,
doesn't get upset, steady everyday, 24 hours a day, coming from
(10:49):
love.
Roland Perez (10:51):
But how would
somebody harmonize with nature?
David Delrahim (10:56):
All right, let's
find out.
You know what?
How do we get out ofharmonization, out of balance?
Well, our lifestyle, we areworking with a lot of
electronics.
It's just a way of life.
I mean, you cannot be withoutyour cell phones or computers,
(11:16):
you cannot be without evenelectricity at home.
So all of these devices, andeven out on the street you have
towers, the Wi-Fi, all of thesethings.
They have EMFs, so our bodyabsorbs all of these EMFs, so we
(11:38):
are out of harmony.
And if we go to the beach andwe remove our shoes, we are
earthing ourselves.
When we get out of harmony, really our body is being
positively charged, whichcreates inflammation and that
(12:01):
becomes pain and other sorts ofdiscomforts.
Roland Perez (12:07):
Earthing is
something we're going to talk
about later on in the series, but it's a fascinating thing, is
earthing?
David Delrahim (12:16):
Right, so we can
go outside.
We can go stand next to a tree,we can sit down, we can remove
our shoes, step on the grass andagain getting close to the
nature.
You know what, if we close oureyes and calm our minds, even
(12:39):
better, faster we get to thepoint of harmony.
Roland Perez (12:43):
And it's very easy
to test it.
David Delrahim (12:46):
You know, when
we get upset, we have anxiety.
Rather than popping a couple ofpills, we just, you know, go
under the sun just for a fewminutes, go stand under the
shade.
After that, next to a tree, siton the ground.
(13:06):
It's okay, they're all here toserve us from love.
Roland Perez (13:13):
You mentioned the
sun.
Give me some benefits of thesun.
David Delrahim (13:17):
Oh, the benefits
of the sun is just enormous,
but it's enormous amount ofbenefits.
However, they have scared usfrom being out in the sun, so we
don't go to the sun, and whenwe go to the sun we rub a lot of
(13:38):
things all over our face.
Roland Perez (13:39):
Right.
David Delrahim (13:41):
Which you know,
some of those lotions you might
want to read in the back.
Just see what's in it beforeyou put it on.
But it goes back to balance.
You don't have to be under thesun for hours.
You really need about 15minutes.
Half an hour depends on whattime of day it is.
(14:01):
The UV gets, you know,intensified.
It goes from 10 am to about 4pm.
Before 10 am go for about halfan hour.
Early in the morning, which Inormally love to do.
When the sun comes up, I liketo be in front of it for about
(14:22):
an hour because that's acompletely different kinds of
rays that you will receive.
Or right before the sunset.
Those two an hour after thesunrise, an hour before the
sunset perfect time to get sun,I mean.
(14:42):
And the benefits from thevitamin D, which is so important
to us, not only for our bonesbut it will help us even with
our sleep because of themelatonin and balancing our
circadian rhythm very important.
Roland Perez (15:04):
When I go out to
the sun and I just sit for a
moment and put my head back andjust enjoy the sun for just a
few moments, you can feel it inyour body, the warmth, the
energy that you're getting fromthe sun.
There's a certain amount of.
Maybe it's different for otherpeople, but for me it's an
(15:27):
energy.
I feel the energy of the sun.
I don't sit in the sun verylong, but when I am there and
I'm conscious, I'm not walkingto a meeting outside or
something.
I am literally sitting in achair with my head back and
enjoying the sun.
There is a magic.
David Delrahim (15:53):
Absolutely.
Our mood changes when it is asunny day.
We're smiling more, we havemore energy, maybe we want to go
here and there, we want to justwalk outside.
Even if you talk with theretailers, the days that are
sunny they do more business thanthe days that are not.
(16:13):
I was a retailer for 40 years.
Huge difference between sunnydays and gloomy or cloudy days.
And if you look at some of thestatistics around the world,
what sun, or lack of, does tothe population, you would see
(16:36):
that unfortunately, there aremore depressions and suicides in
the areas that they don't get alot of sun.
Absolutely so, if you look atit, what sun does?
The sun is life at all levels, but in balance.
(16:56):
Just because it's a source oflight, we cannot just sleep
under the sun for eight hours.
We know what it would do to ourskin, but in the right amount.
I'm making sure that, notcoming from the fear, go out,
(17:18):
enjoy the sun, receive theblessings of what comes from the
sun.
Sun is here to serve us.
Roland Perez (17:27):
It's all part of
the outside experience, from the
sun to the moon, to the sounds,to the wind, to the babbling
brook.
It's all fixed, it's there forus.
All we have to do is step intoit.
David Delrahim (17:43):
Step into it and
connect with it.
You know when you go don't beon your cell phone because
you're disconnected.
Be with it, be present, giveyourself, honor yourself for 15
minutes.
I don't think anything willhappen in 15 minutes.
Even if something happens, itis outside of your control
(18:08):
anyway, so why even bother 15minutes?
Immerse yourself into outsideand, if you can close your eyes
and sit and capture that momentin life and be one not only with
(18:28):
the nature, be one withyourself and with your inner
self.
Roland Perez (18:34):
Again, great
insight.
Thank you, david.
