Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Beyond Sunday, where we bridge our
everyday experiences with thedepth of biblical wisdom.
I'm Pastor Nick, and todaywe're venturing into a vital
aspect of Christian life, andthat is depending on God's
Spirit.
Every day We'll be looking atJohn, chapter 16, verses seven
through 15.
We'll uncover thetransformative power of the Holy
Spirit in our everyday lives.

(00:20):
For just a moment, imaginegoing through life without the
advice, the support or even thepresence of your closest friends
.
How would that feel?
It would feel isolating, right.
That's how crucial the HolySpirit is to our spiritual
journey.
Have you ever spent some timeconsidering how radical it is

(00:43):
that God himself has chosen todwell not just among us, but
within us?
That's the game changer we'rediscussing today.
As Jesus prepared his disciplesfor his departure, he promised
the Holy Spirit transforming notjust their lives but every
believer's life.
Thereafter, this promiseextends to us, offering not only

(01:04):
support but also guidancethrough every aspect of life.
This conversation may have onlylasted 30 or 40 minutes with
the disciples as they left theupper room and made their way to
the garden to pray, but thisconversation has changed all of
our lives.
So now that you understand thebackdrop and importance of the
Holy Spirit's role as outlinedby Jesus.

(01:25):
Let's dive in to our first majortheme the Holy Spirit as our
constant indweller.
The concept of the Holy Spiritliving within us is not just a
theological principle.
It's a transformative realitythat changes how you and I
interact with the world.
John, chapter 16, verse 7,emphasizes the necessity of
Jesus' departure for the HolySpirit to come and dwell within

(01:48):
believers, highlighting aprofound shift from God's
presence in the temple to hispresence in our hearts.
I'm sure the disciples arguedwith Jesus and said no, we don't
want you to go away, and no,what you're saying is going to
be better.
We haven't experienced that yet, so we're not sure it is.
This indwelling is akin tohaving a constant moral compass

(02:09):
and comforter, which was arevolutionary change from the
old covenant to the new covenant, where God's law and presence
became internal rather thanexternal.
To nurture this relationship, start each day by acknowledging
the Holy Spirit's presence inyour life, ask for His guidance
in both small decisions andsignificant challenges,

(02:32):
cultivating a habit of listeningand responding to His nudges
throughout the day.
Understanding the Holy Spiritas our indweller naturally leads
us to explore how he guidesthrough life's decisions and
challenges.
Guidance from the Holy Spirit isintegral to navigating life's

(02:53):
complexities, ensuring that youand I remain on the path that
aligns us with God's will.
John 16, verse 13, promisesthat the Spirit will lead us
into all truth.
Not some truth, not a littlebit of truth, not specific truth
.
It says all truth.
It's a beacon in the oftenmurky waters of life's decisions

(03:14):
.
Reflect on the life of DietrichBonhoeffer who, during Nazi
Germany, felt compelled by theHoly Spirit to speak out against
tyranny, despite the personalcost.
This guidance often comes asquiet impressions on the heart
or sudden clarity in confusingsituations.

(03:34):
It's the Spirit, affirmingScripture or godly counsel, that
steers us right.
Practice discernment byregularly praying for the
Spirit's clarity on a specificissue.
Journal these prayers and theinsights or the resolutions that
follow, tracking how divineguidance unfolds in your life.

(03:56):
Now, while guidance is asignificant aspect of the Holy
Spirit's role, his work doesn'tstop there.
Let's shift our focus on howthe Holy Spirit also serves as
both our convictor of sin andour comforter in times of need.
The Holy Spirit's role inconvicting us of sin is as
crucial as His role incomforting us when we are

(04:19):
aligned with God's ways.
John 16, verses 8-11, discussesthe Spirit's convicting work in
the world of sin, ofrighteousness and of judgment.
This is actively involved inboth the believer and the
unbeliever's life.
This is the uniqueness of theHoly Spirit that we miss

(04:40):
sometimes, I think.
Sometimes in the church world,in Christianity, believers think
that they are the convictor ofpeople's sins.
We get in the habit of pointingpeople's sins out, helping them
see where they're missing Godand maybe there is some truth in
that but at the same time,we're missing allowing the Holy
Spirit to do what the HolySpirit said he's going to do,

(05:00):
and that is convict people oftheir sins.
You and I, our job is to be thewitnesses.
Right, we get to celebrate whoGod is and what he's done in our
lives.
We get to witness his holiness.
We get to witness who he is toother people.
For you engage with a spiritualmentor to discuss areas of
potential growth and conviction.

(05:20):
Maybe that's how you moveforward with this area of the
Holy Spirit in your life, byallowing somebody else to speak
into your life talking about howto grow in your reliance on the
Holy Spirit.
Use those sessions to pray andseek the Holy Spirit's guidance
in overcoming personal andcommunal challenges.
Beyond conviction and comfort, the promise of the Holy Spirit's

(05:42):
eternal presence is anothercornerstone of our faith.
Let's explore what thisperpetual companionship means
for us as believers.
The promise of the HolySpirit's eternal presence offers
unparalleled comfort andsecurity, reinforcing that we
are never alone.
Let me say that again you arenever alone.
You are never alone no matterthe circumstances you find

(06:05):
yourself in.
You are not alone.
In the loneliest moments ofyour life.
You are not alone.
The Holy Spirit is with you.
John 14, 16 underscores theperpetual companionship of the
Helper.
Consider the early Christianswho, under intense pressure,
drew courage from the Spirit'senduring presence, enabling them

(06:26):
to preach boldly and to liveout their faith.
This eternal assurance fostersa deep sense of security and
boldness in our faith actions, knowing that God's guidance and
support are always at hand.
Now here's a tip for you Createmoments in your day to
acknowledge and thank the HolySpirit for his presence, whether

(06:50):
it's during a morning commute,maybe it's in quiet moments
before sleep, theseacknowledgements can strengthen
your awareness and reliance onhis internal companionship.
Empowered by the eternalpresence of the Holy Spirit,
believers are not only sustained, but also equipped for mission.
This leads us into our nextpoint the empowerment of the

(07:13):
Holy Spirit for God's purposes.
The empowerment of the HolySpirit equips us to accomplish
God's purposes, giving us thestrength to witness and serve
effectively.
Acts 1.8 highlights theSpirit's empowerment for mission
, emphasizing that our witnessis not by might nor by power,
but by the Spirit of God.

(07:34):
Nor by power, but by the Spiritof God.
Billy Graham once said it isthe Holy Spirit's job to convict
, god's job to judge and my jobto love, illustrating how the
Spirit empowers us to focus onlove and service, leaving the
judgment to God.
This empowerment is manifest inboth supernatural ways, like

(07:54):
spiritual gifts, gifts, andpractical ways, such as an
increased wisdom and endurancein trials.
You want to live this outVolunteer, in a ministry or a
community service where you feelunqualified.
Rely on the Holy Spirit forcapability beyond your natural
skills, witnessing how we canwork through your availability

(08:14):
more than your ability.
Man, I love that Work throughyour availability more than your
ability.
Having explored themultifaceted roles of the Holy
Spirit, from indwelling, guidingand comforting to empowering,
it's clear just how pivotal heis to our everyday lives as
followers of Christ.
As we've explored today, depending on God's spirit, every

(08:37):
day enriches our Christian walkby transforming us from the
inside out, guiding us in truth, convicting us towards
righteousness, comforting us inour trials and empowering us for
his service.
I encourage you to deepen yourreliance on the Holy Spirit this
week.
See how each day can be anadventure in faith when you
allow Him to lead your steps.
