it's me. Well this past weekend I had my booth
at the Pride in the Park event in my little city.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
It was a great event. I made a little over
one hundred dollars with my daughter's jewelry sales and a
little over three hundred with my T shirt sales, handed
out a ton of podcast stickers, and talked up our
Darkcast Network shows. I also met a bunch of really
nice people. Well, I did it again. I misspoke and

(02:29):
I aired with something I said last episode. Teagan messaged
me afterwards to help me correct what I had said,
and I'm so glad they did. My mistake was when
I said non binary people don't have gender dysphoria. Teagan
told me that many trans people along the spectrum don't

(02:49):
have gender dysphoria, and many don't realize their trans until
they experienced gender euphoria, where some go on to realize
the discomfort that they felt and ignored was actually gender dysphoria.
So I've been marinating on this for a bit since
they wrote me at the Pride event, I was that.

(03:12):
I actually talked to some teenage trans non binaries and
I asked them if they could explain it to me
even further. One told me it was truly more about
euphoria than dysphoria. For example, when they put on a binder,
which is a garment that compresses and flattens the chest

(03:32):
and is normally worn by people assigned female at birth,
the binder gave that young person what they told me
was a euphoric feeling. It made them feel more masculine
or androgynous, and they were so happy. This kind of
gave me a new perspective of the concept that I've
been trying so hard to understand. I've been looking at

(03:54):
trans and non binary non conforming as it is all
about gender dysphoria, and I've been pushing aside the euphoria part.
When the euphoric feeling is equally important, if not more so.
People need to be comfortable in their bodies, which is
the bottom line. And this is coming from a cisgendered

(04:15):
lesbian who's never been comfortable in her own body due
to weight issues. Quite honestly, I feel euphoric when I'm
able to lose weight and if I look at it
like that, I understand it a little bit more. It's
time to cover another serial killer. Southern California serial killer

(04:37):
Patrick Wayne Kearney had murdered at least twenty one and
maybe upwards of thirty five young male victims, ranging in
ages from five years old to twenty eight years old,
but some of his victims were murdered and defiled in Tijuana,
as Patrick was very fluent in Spanish. Therefore, he was

(04:58):
able to form a small bond with a victim before
killing them, and fortunately many of these victims are unknown.
His moniker, like so many before him and after him,
was the freeway Killer, but it was also given the
moniker the trash bag killer. It was the early sixties

(05:19):
to late seventies in California. Long hair was worn by
both guys and girls. Flared pants and fringe vests were
all the rage. In the United States, peace signs, bright
yellow smiley faces, and Kilroy was here were the go
to emojis for spray paint, graffiti artists laugh in. The

(05:41):
Carol Burnett Show and The Beverly Hillbillies were the comedy
television shows to watch, while Marcus wellb MD and Bononza
were among the favorite shows in the dramatic category. Rocky
horror picture show in Star Wars were two iconic and
cult classic movies to from that era. Pet Rocks, Streaking

(06:04):
and Knee High Boots were some of the favorite trending fads.
Hippies and free love expression ran rampant, but so did hitchhikers.
These two decades were just the start of serial killers
gone wild. Patrick Quayne Kearney was one of three boys
born to his parents. Patrick was born and raised in

(06:28):
East Los Angeles. His birthday has been listed as September
twenty fourth, nineteen thirty four, making him a libra. Damn it.
Leavers are supposed to be for justice, not killers, let
alone serial killers. Oh well, I guess there's a few
in just about every horoscope sign, and some horoscope signs

(06:50):
have a tongue geminis. Patrick was thin, shy, kind of weird,
and pretty sickly as a child. Because of his small
frame and odd persona, he was prone to being the
casualty of many bullies in school. This caused him to
isolate himself at home and not have much of a

(07:12):
social life with classmates or friends. All of this possibly
nah most likely contributed to the kind of person Patrick
would grow into. It was the pain and trauma from
constant ridicule and physical abuse by his peers that he
carried with him into his adult life. At the age

(07:35):
of thirteen, Patrick's dad taught him how to kill a
pig that was ready for the slaughterhouse. He showed him
how to hold a pistol to the back of the
pig's head and shoot it behind its ear. Patrick enjoyed
this very much too much. Actually, he'd often go and
kill pigs that were not ready for the slaughterhouse just

(07:56):
for funsies. He found that his favorite part of the
the kill was the disembowment afterwards. He loved the blood
and the organs, and when he was by himself, he
would lay down in the sticky red substance and roll
around in it like it was a million new one
hundred dollars bills. It was also at this age Patrick

(08:19):
began to participate in bestiality with animals. This got Patrick
to start fantasizing about murdering people. He'd start his fantasies
by slaying his bullies who were still picking on him,
along with anyone else who had wronged him In the past.
After Patrick graduated high school without harming anyone human by

(08:43):
the way, his family moved to Houston, Texas, but Patrick
really missed the Los Angeles area and he move back
by himself. Not long after moving back to Los Angeles,
he decided to join the Air Force and that put
him back in tech for a bit because their Air
Force Basic Training boot camp is NAR San Antonio. While

(09:07):
in the military, Patrick met another airman named David Hill.
David was married to a woman, but he and Patrick
fell in love. After their stint and the service was done,
David was discharged for having mental issues. He left his wife.
The two men moved to the Southern California area together,

(09:30):
and this was around nineteen sixty one. I should probably
mention there was a super brief moment where Patrick too
was married to a woman, but it ended pretty quickly
in divorce. Back in Southern California, Patrick got a great
job as an aeronomics engineer with Hughes's Aircraft Company, while David,

(09:52):
who's three years younger than Patrick, payed home and kept house.
But just because Patrick was very successful in his career
didn't change the fact that he's still lested to kill.
While the two young men seemed to be very much
in love. Their relationship that started in nineteen sixty was

(10:12):
tumultuous at times. They had many loud, angry, passionate arguments.
During these arguments, both of them at some point would
storm out of their house, get into separate cars, and
just drive. David would sometimes even drive all the way
back home to Leubbock, Texas, where he was from, or

(10:34):
he'd just go pick up a man for one night's
stand in a night of intimacy. There was one time, however,
that David was so angry with Patrick he went back
to Lubbock and he got back together with his wife.
It was during this time that Patrick began his killing sprees.
The fight that drove David back to Lebock, Texas and

(10:57):
into the arms of his wife was so no intense
Patrick needed to control his anger and frustration. He had
no one to run back to. Instead, he chose a
dark rooted criminal release consisting of murder. Now, I would
like to mention in various resources, there seemed to be

(11:18):
a lot of inaccuracies, especially with the dates of the
killings and how many victims there truly were. What I
normally do in cases such as this, I'll go with
what seems to be the majority of resources that carry
the same information. For example, I found one resource that
said Patrick Kearny had murdered the most victims in nineteen

(11:41):
seventy one, when several other resources agreed that it was
actually in nineteen seventy six. And I just wanted to
point that out before anybody comes at me with no CJ.
You're wrong, get your facts right. At the age of
twenty two, Patrick's first known murder would occur in nineteen
sixty two. It seemed Patrick would choose most of his

(12:03):
victims based on the bullies that he had had in
his younger life. Most of them were blond boys, and
nearly all of them had an air of arrogance about them.
While Patrick's first suspected victim's name is unknown, it is
known that he was white and nineteen years old. Patrick
going to Volkswagen bug a truck, and a motorcycle. He

(12:27):
liked his vehicles and he enjoyed riding around and all
of them at different times. The day of his first
known murder, Patrick was riding around on his motorcycle. The
nineteen year old, who was with his sixteen year old
male cousin at the time, he agreed to go for
a ride with Patrick. Patrick took him to a remote area,

(12:48):
shot the young man, had sex with the body, and
then mutilated the remains. Afterwards, Patrick rode back to where
he picked up the nineteen year old, and he coaxed
it's the victim's sixteen year old male cousin into getting
on the motorcycle with them. The sixteen year old was
a witness against Patrick. Being able to persuade the sixteen

(13:11):
year old to go with him absolutely elated Patrick, so
that way he could also dispose of a witness and
get his rocks off at the same time. Patrick probably
told the sixteen year old that he'd take him to
his cousin, and the sixteen year old hopped on the
back of the motorcycle and sadly that teenage boy had

(13:31):
the same fate befall him that happened to his older cousin.
To this day, their bodies have yet to be found.
During Patrick's reign of terror on southern California, he was
not the only serial killer out and about. There was
also the Zodiac Killer, the Hillside Stranglers, the Zebra Killers,

(13:54):
Randy Kraft, and William Bonnen. One thing noticeably different with
patrick style from these other serial killers is that he
didn't get off on torturing his victims while they were
still alive. For Patrick, he much preferred to play with
a corpse. This would make Patrick a necro file. There

(14:16):
were days that Patrick would get into his Volkswagen bug
Okay gay Ted Bundy, and he would drive around until
he'd pick up a male hitchhiker, where he'd find a
young man at a gay bar to take with them.
Once he had his target, they would drive down the freeway.
And since Patrick knew he was small, only standing five

(14:37):
to five, and that he was thin, he decidedly knew
he most likely was not going to be able to
hold his zone in a fight. Therefore, while Patrick was driving,
he would keep one hand on the steering wheel and
his other arm would extend across his target's back seat
with a gun in his hand, and then he'd pull

(14:57):
the trigger, shooting his victims the head behind the ear,
just like his dad had taught him to do with
the pigs. After he completed his task, Patrick would drive
around with the corpse until he found a quiet, secluded area.
He'd pull the body of his young victim from the car,
undress him, and proceed to have sex with the body.

(15:21):
Patrick would scream, moan, yell, oftentimes beat on the body,
and take out all of his frustrations on the poor
deceased subject. It was his release before returning home. Later
in the seventies, if he did end up taking a
dead body home, he would take it into his bathroom

(15:42):
to clean each part and train it of the blood
so it wouldn't smell, and then he'd use the body
for his derange sexual gratification. Eventually, when he was ready
to dispose of the corpse, he'd use a hack saw
to cut the body into pieces, and he would place
them on to black trash bags, distributing the bags along

(16:04):
various southern California freeways, thus the freeway killer and trash
bag killer monikers. Patrick credited serial killer Dean Coral aka
the Candy Man, who did most of his killings in Texas,
for his method of disposing victim's bodies. Based on news

(16:24):
clippings that he read and had he kept about the killer,
Patrick would kill one more young man nineteen sixty two.
The young man was eighteen years old and it had
the name of Mike. His body has also never been found,
and that seemed to be the extent of Patrick's murderous
streak until nineteen sixty seven, at least as far as

(16:48):
we know, because five years of inactivity it seems like
an awfully long dry spell for a serial killer. At
the end of nineteen sixty two, Dave had left his
wife again and he returned back to Patrick in California.
This time, the couple moved to Culver City, a suburb

(17:09):
in the Los Angeles area. David would eventually not just
leave his wife this time, but divorce her, and for
the next five or six years things for Patrick and
David were pretty decent, which could be the reason why
Patrick hadn't felt the urge to murder during that time,
or perhaps he did murder but the victims were never

(17:30):
found or linked to him. In June of nineteen sixty eight,
Patrick was now twenty seven years old. He and David
decided to take a trip down to Mexico. Along the way,
they stopped to see their old friend George in San Diego.
In just six months after that, around Christmas time, Patrick
would visit George again in San Diego. This time, David

(17:54):
was not with him. It's not been documented as to
why David wasn't with Patrick, but my speculation would be
that he and David were having one of their horrible
fights again. Patrick encouraged George to come back to his
home with him in Culver City, and George agreed to.
As soon as George entered Patrick and David's home, Patrick

(18:18):
put a bullet in George's head. He then dragged George's
body to the bathroom and he proceeded to sodomize the corpse.
He then put George's body in the bathtub and he
dismembered it, and he skinned the body using an exact
o knife. Patrick also removed the bullet that he had
shot into George. This was to ensure no evidence would

(18:40):
lead back to him. Patrick buried George's remains in his
backyard behind his garage. Then, apparently, Patrick would go quiet
again until nineteen seventy one. In nineteen sixty nine, Patrick
and David would move from Culver City, this time to
Redondo Beach. Redondo Beach is a beautiful little community right

(19:03):
along the ocean, although the area would become much less
beautiful with Patrick Kearney's presence. In nineteen seventy one, a
thirteen year old boy named John Demchik would be picked
up by Patrick. He was taken to a remote location,
shot and sodomized. John was then buried by Patrick. His

(19:26):
body would not be recovered for nearly two years after
his murder. Patrick's next known murder would occur in nineteen
seventy three, and that's when he came across seventeen year
old James Fletcher Barwick. According to the Johnny Doe Project page,
James is thought to have been the twelfth victim of

(19:47):
Patrick Kearney. However, I'm at the count of six, which
is more consistent with all the other sources that I've
looked into. Of course, with serial killers, like I said before,
an accurate cat of all the victims, it proves challenging
unless the serial killers up front and forthright about all
their victims, and then you still don't even know if

(20:09):
they're lying. A few hide their actual number of kills,
some are proud of their number of kills, and still
others will claim credit of kills from other serial killers,
and this is to try and boost their numbers, almost
as if they're in a competition to be the most
notorious it's nuts really. Seventeen year old James was from Florida,

(20:34):
but he had hitchhiked to cross the US to California
as a transient. Patrick picked James up drove them to
a deserted area in Escondido, California, which is near San Diego.
Patrick shot James in the back of his head and
then proceeded to undress the boy and sodomize the body
before he left james remains. James's body was discovered later

(20:58):
that same day, and as far as we know, Patrick
would not kill again for another year. This next one,
for me, it took Patrick to an all new low
in my book. On August twenty fourth, nineteen seventy four,
Patrick would claim his youngest victim yet in five year

(21:18):
old Ronald Dean Smith Junior. Little Ronnie was playing at
a neighborhood park with a friend. It was nineteen seventy
four and everyone was more trusting back then. He was
expected to be home by dinner. When Ronnie didn't show
up at home, but his friend did, Ronnie's grandmother, with

(21:39):
whom he was staying, got to looking for him. She
couldn't find him anywhere, so she called the Sheriff Law
enforcement spoke to Ronnie's friend who was with him, and
that child told sheriff deputies that he and Ronnie had
a sand fight and he left the park to go
get cleaned up, and he left Ronnie crying in the sandbox.

(22:02):
Sheriff officers searched the eight square mile park and interviewed
neighbors in the area, but nobody seemed to know anything.
It was like Ronnie had evaporated into thin air. A
couple of months later, in October, a few days shy
of Ronnie's sixth birthday, Ronnie's remains were found. The little

(22:24):
boy had been suffocated to death and tossed aside. I
could never find anything that confirmed if the small child
had been sexually assaulted, but it wouldn't surprise me since
that was Patrick's m O. With this horrendous murder. It
was to be the start of Patrick's escalation into more killings.

(22:46):
In nineteen seventy five, Patrick would claim two more young
male lives, first that of twenty one year old Albert
Rivera on April thirteenth. Albert had been shot in his head,
his corpse taken back to Patrick's home, sodomized dismembered, and
his body would be placed in a few random trash

(23:07):
bags to be distributed in various locations. Albert would be
the first of many more to be dismembered, put into
trash bags, and dispersed along major highways in southern California.
His body parts were found the same day. Next on
Halloween Night, twenty year old Larry Jean Walters would be

(23:30):
shot and killed, sodomized, dismembered, placed in bags, and scattered.
As we now enter into nineteen seventy six, we see
Patrick killing more frequently. My count for nineteen seventy six
is twelve victims. I do have to say some of
the resources claim it with serial killer Randy Craft, who

(23:52):
actually killed a few of these young victims that I'm
going to be mentioning, But other sources say it was Patrick.
So if I had to venture a guest, I'd say
that Patrick and David's relationship was not doing well at
all in nineteen seventy six. This could be why Patrick
had a dozen murders racked up in his name. March

(24:14):
first would be Patrick's first known murder of the year.
Seventeen year old Kenneth Eugene Buchanan was picked up, shot
in the back of his head, taken to a secluded area, sodomized,
and then shot three more times by Patrick. This leads
me to believe that Patrick was extra angry on this date.

(24:37):
Kenneth's body would be discovered a month and a week later,
March twenty first. Three weeks later, a thirteen year old
hitchhiker by the name of Oliver Peter Mulletter. He would
be picked up, shot, his body, sexually assaulted, dismembered body
parts placed into bags, and the bags taken to the

(24:58):
Palos Verdes landfill in the Los Angeles area in dumped.
His remains have never been located. On April eighteenth, fifteen
year old Larry Armand Deries would be scooped up, shot
in the head, sodomized, post mortem, dismembered, begged, and the

(25:19):
bags would be dumped along southern California freeways. His remains
were found the following day. Predator Patrick apparently laid dormant
for the month of May, but in June he was
back in action. Thirteen year old Michael Craig McGee had
met Patrick while hitchhiking. Michael would have been considered a delinquent.

(25:43):
He was often truant at school, and he was a
key suspect of some burglaries in possibly a sexual assault case.
Patrick had asked Michael if he'd liked to go camping
with him at Lake Elsinore. This is located between Los
Angeles and San Diego. Michael said yes, but he couldn't

(26:03):
go that day, and he told Patrick to ask him
again in a week. A week later, Patrick was at
Michael's store to see if Michael could go camping with him. This,
to me is just really weird. Patrick is in his
what early the mid thirties, and he's asking a thirteen
year old boy to go camping with him. Michael's older

(26:23):
sister answered the door because she would sometimes watch her
siblings while their mother was at work. The sister told
Patrick that Michael wouldn't be going anywhere as he was grounded.
While the sister wasn't paying attention, Michael would sneak outside
and go with Patrick anyway. Michael was never heard from again.

(26:44):
The sister reported Michael is missing to the police, and
the police who had dealings with Michael before, they chalked
it up to Michael just running away again. While Michael's
remains have never been found. It's been so he was
shot in the back of his head, sodomized, postmortem and dismembered.

(27:07):
Twenty three year old John Woods would be Patrick's next
stone victim. On June twentieth, nineteen seventy six. He too
was shot in the back of his head and killed.
Then John's body was sodomized, dismembered, begged, and dispersed. His
remains would be recovered exactly one year and one day later. Supposedly,

(27:30):
Patrick would take the month of July off. His next
victim would be seventeen year old Larry Espy, whose body
was recovered on August twenty third. Larry two would suffer
the same fate as so many before him. Also sometime
in August, Patrick would pick up twenty year old Wilfrid

(27:50):
Lawrence Faartie. Lawrence would be shot in the back of
his head, sodomized, dismembered, begged up, and scattered about major
southern California freeways. His remains were recovered August twenty eight.
Another murder Patrick made during the month of August with
sixteen year old Lawrence Randall Moore, who went by Randy

(28:13):
He too had the same treatment as Patrick's other victims,
although his body wasn't discovered until October tenth of nineteen
seventy six. Timothy Ingham was a nineteen year old teen
who was shot in the back of his head while
he slept by Now we all know what was done
to him. However, he wasn't dismembered. Instead, his body was

(28:36):
tossed down a ravine and found September twenty fourth, which
is nine days after he was murdered. According to the
medical Examiner, I think its facts like that were a
killer's motive changes a little bit, which makes it questionable
as to who the serial killer really was. It's possible
that one wasn't Patrick's because the mo was so different,

(29:00):
but it could have been, or it could have been
Randy Krafts or another serial killer operating at the time.
Robert Bennifield was a seventeen year old hitchhiker that Patrick
had picked up, shot in the back of his head, sodomized, dismembered, begged,
and distributed in various locations. This happened sometime in the

(29:21):
fall of nineteen seventy six, which is also when his
remains were discovered. Another victim. Twenty seven year old David Allen,
would also lose his life to Patrick in the fall
of nineteen seventy six. His body was found still intact
on the side of the road October ninth. Was Patrick
his killer? He was credited for the killed, but we

(29:44):
don't know for sure. And what could have been Patrick's
last serial murder for nineteen seventy six was twenty year
old Mark Andrew Orrick. He was murdered October fifth, with
his remains recovered the following day. All of these senseless
murders have me scratch in my head wondering how Patrick's

(30:06):
boyfriend David couldn't know about Patrick's deviant dillings. And I
will answer this in the next episode. I'm sorry to
do that to your warriors by making this a two parter,
but there's a bunch more we still need to get into.
And you know how my attention span is, it only
lasts so long. Delby no true crime quickie this episode.

(30:29):
But I do have some sunshine reported to me by Tigan,
the same Tiggan who was trying to help me understand
the dysphoria euphoria thing. Teagan told me that the UK
recently had a record breaking trans Pride March of an
estimated over one hundred thousand people in London. The amount

(30:49):
of supporters nearly doubled from twenty twenty four. Teagan attended
and said it was a heartwarming and empowering event to
see the hate loungers that were there were loud, but
most definitely the minority. So thank you, Tigan, thank you
for that. I appreciate you very much. I love your warriors.

(31:12):
You matters so much. And remember it's not a crime
to be gay or to live your fucking truth unless
you're a murderer.
