We gather here today
with
open hearts and minds
to grow in faith and truth

(00:51):
Welcome to Bible Bites, the podcast where we work to inspire faith one bite at a time. I'm your host, Randy Black.
The story of Adam and Eve in Genesis chapter three verses one through 19 is
one of the most significant passages in the Bible
as it recounts
humanity's

(01:12):
act of disobedience
toward God.
This moment
changed the course of history,
introducing sin into the world and affecting
all generations to come.
Through this episode, we're gonna explore the nature of temptation,
the consequences of sin, and the lessons we can apply to our daily lives as believers in Christ.

(01:36):
Before we dive into the scripture, let's open up
with a word of prayer.
Heavenly father,
we come before you today with open hearts and minds seeking to understand your word
As we study the account of the sin,
help us to recognize the dangers of temptation
and the consequences

(01:58):
of disobedience.
Teach us to trust in your wisdom
and to rely on your strength to resist the enemy.
May this
passage of scripture
draw us
closer to you
and deepen our commitment
to walk in obedience.

(02:19):
In the name of your son, our savior Jesus, we pray.
Amen.
Genesis chapter three verses one through 19.
Now the serpent was more cunning than any animal of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, has God really said,

(02:46):
you shall not eat from any tree of the garden?
The woman said to the serpent, from the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat, but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, you shall not eat from it or touch it or you will die.
The serpent said to the woman, you certainly will not die.
For God knows that on the day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened and you will become like God, knowing good and evil.

(03:14):
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was a delight to the eyes and that the tree was desirable to make one wise,
she took some of its fruit and ate. And she also gave some to her husband with her and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they knew that they were naked.
And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves waste coverings.

(03:36):
Now they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.
And the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Then the Lord God called to the man and said to him, where are you? He said, I heard the sound of you in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself. And he said, who told you that you were naked?

(03:59):
Have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?
The man said, the woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me some of the fruit of the tree and I ate. Then the Lord God said to the woman, what is this that you have done? And the woman said, the serpent deceived me and I ate.
Then the Lord God said to the serpent, because you have done this, cursed are you more than all the livestock

(04:25):
and more than any animal of the field. On your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. And I will make enemies of you and the woman, and of your offspring and her descendant.
He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel.
To the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth.

(04:49):
In pain you shall deliver children.
Yet your desire will be for your husband and he shall rule over you.
Then to Adam he said,
because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten from the tree from which I commanded you, saying, you shall not eat from it. Cursed is the ground because of you. With hard labor, you shall eat from it all the days of your life.

(05:12):
Both thorns and thistles, it shall grow for you. Yet you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face, you shall eat bread until you return to the ground. Because from it, you were taken.
For you are dust, and to dust, you shall return.
Genesis three
opens with the serpent,

(05:33):
Satan,
engaging Eve in conversation.
His approach is cunning.
He does not outright deny God's word,
but instead
casts doubt upon it.
The serpent's question,
has God really said,
introduces deception,

(05:54):
causing Eve
to reconsider
what she knew to be true.
This teaches us that temptation often begins with
questioning God's authority
and distorting his truth.
Eve's response
shows that she understands God's command,
but she adds to it by saying they must not touch the fruit,

(06:17):
which
God never explicitly stated.
This illustrates how even
slight distortions of God's word
can lead to misunderstandings
and vulnerability
to sin.
The serpent
capitalizes on this moment,
directly
contradicting God by telling Eve

(06:38):
she will not die,
but will instead
instead gain gain wisdom
and become like God.
This is a a classic example of how sin
often appeals to pride
and the desire
one has for control.
Once Eve gives in,

(06:59):
she also leads Adam into disobedience.
Their immediate reaction is shame.
They realize their nakedness
and attempt to cover themselves.
This signifies
the loss of innocence
and the entrance
of sin's consequences.
Instead of running to God,

(07:20):
they hide,
which reflects how sin creates separation
between humanity
and God.
When God confronts Adam and Eve, he gives them an opportunity to confess,
but instead,
they shift blame.
Adam blames Eve,
and Eve blames the serpent.

(07:40):
This evasion of responsibility
is a common human
reaction to sin.
However,
God's justice prevails as he pronounces the consequences.
Pain in childbirth
for Eve,
toil and struggle in labor for Adam,
and ultimately

(08:00):
death
for both.
We have five key takeaways from this passage of scripture.
Our is that temptation often begins with doubt and distortion
of God's word.
Satan's move was to introduce doubt by twisting God's command.

(08:21):
He did not outright deny God's words, but questioned them in a way that made Eve reconsider what she knew.
This is a a tactic still used today
as the enemy
tries to make us question God's truth and replace it with human reasoning.

(08:42):
We must be diligent in studying and understanding scripture
so that we are not deceived by half truths
or distortions.
Our next takeaway is that sin leads to shame and separation from God.
Adam and Eve's immediate response to their sin was to cover themselves and to hide.

(09:03):
This is a powerful image
of how sin creates a rift between us and God.
Rather than running to him for mercy,
they tried to solve their problem on their own, which only
made matters
worse.
When we sin,
our instinct should be to seek God's forgiveness

(09:24):
rather than avoid him in shame and in guilt.
Our next takeaway is that blaming others
does not absolve personal responsibility.
When confronted by God,
both Adam and Eve attempted to shift the blame.
This teaches us that accountability

(09:46):
is essential
in our walk with God.
True repentance
comes
from acknowledging
our wrongdoing
rather than justifying
or excusing it.
Takeaway number four is that sin has real consequences.
The curses pronounced on Adam and Eve and even the serpent

(10:09):
show that sin carries lasting effects.
Even today, we experience the repercussions
of this disobedience.
However,
through Christ,
we have redemption
and the hope of restoration.
And our last takeaway is that God's plan for redemption

(10:31):
was already in motion.
Even in the midst of pronouncing judgment,
God spoke of the future defeat of Satan through the offspring of the woman.
This prophecy known as the as, known as the protoevangelium
points to Jesus Christ

(10:51):
who would ultimately conquer sin
and death.
This reminds us that God's grace and plan for salvation
were present
from the very
beginning
of time.
Temptation
is a reality for every believer, and understanding

(11:13):
how it operates can help us guard against falling into sin.
Satan often targets areas of weakness using deception
and half truths to lead us away from God's path.
Reflecting on Eve's interaction with the serpent,
we should consider how we too are sometimes drawn into questioning

(11:35):
God's will.
Additionally,
we must recognize our responsibility in sin.
Blaming others
or circumstances
does not remove accountability.
True repentance
requires acknowledging our wrongdoing
and seeking God's forgiveness
rather than hiding in shame.

(11:59):
Another important lesson is that God's justice and mercy go hand in hand.
While sin has consequences,
God still provides a path for redemption.
This is fully realized in Jesus Christ
who bore the punishment for sin so that we might be restored to God.
Through

(12:19):
him, we find the grace to overcome temptation
and to walk in obedience.
Lastly,
our response to sin
should not be hiding or making excuses,
but rather turning to God in repentance.
He is always ready to forgive and to restore

(12:41):
those who
genuinely
seek
him.
Let's close out our study of the scripture
with another word of prayer.
Gracious lord,
thank you for revealing the truth about temptation
and sin through your word.

(13:04):
Help us to recognize the enemy's schemes
and stand firm in faith.
Give us the strength to resist sin
and the humility
to repent
when we fall.
May we walk in obedience,
trusting in your wisdom
rather than our own understanding.

(13:25):
Thank you for your mercy and grace
and for the salvation
we have
through Jesus Christ.
In his precious name we pray,
amen.

That's podcasting2pointorg/apps.
This podcast operates under what we call the value for value model, and we hope that with the work we're doing each week providing this content to you that you are receiving value, and that you then in turn would provide value back to us. And it could come in three different forms under this model. We call those time, talent, and treasure.

(14:20):
Time is as simple as taking the time each week to listen to the show. It could also be taking the time to share it with someone else.
Talent will be offering to assist us somehow with the show, be it in creating cover art. It can be in offering up suggestions for scripture or for topics.
It could be even taking the time to script out, write out an episode of the show for us,

(14:41):
meaning, you know, our format.
And it could also be stepping up and being involved in recording
for the show.
And treasure implies something that is treasure is of value, in this case, financial.
And we have, you know, ways for you to provide that to us. You can do that in a modern podcast app. In a modern podcast app, you can fountain is the easiest way to do it right now currently. You can also do it with true fans,

(15:07):
but you can load up your wallet there with Satoshis. Satoshis are very, very small amounts of Bitcoin, and you can then set a value for how much you want to stream to the show. If you wanna stream 10¢
10 sats a minute, that's that's fine. If you wanna send,
you know, stream 500 sats a minute, that's perfectly fine too. It's based on the value you're receiving that you then want to return back.

(15:31):
Right? You can also send in a boost. A boost is a one time pledge of support in one of those apps and in an amount of Satoshis you choose.
You can send in a boost to gram, which is the same as a boost, but has a message attached. You can use that to send encouragement, to send praise, to thank us for what we're doing. You can even send prayer requests in that way. And you could also head to our website where we have,

(15:52):
a widget embedded on our value for value page there that you can use PayPal to make a one time pledge of support or schedule a continuing pledge of support to help us with the show. We also have links there to do the same through ALBE,
as well as Strike, and we have a link there where you can purchase one time credits on a service called Auphonic. And Auphonic is what we use to process our audio here on the show.

(16:17):
So there are several ways you can do that.
If you wanna learn more about the value for value model and everything it implies,
what we then do to apply it to what we're doing here on the show, head over to our website and read up on it. You can do that at bible-bytes.com/vforv.
That's bible-byteswithay,bytes.com/theletterv,thenumberfour,andtheletterv.

(16:47):
We hope that you would,
have a prayer request you'd wanna share with us here on the show so that we can
hand those over to our audience. We can work together to raise those up to the Lord together
and try to ensure that,
we not ensure, but, you know, just have more voices
raising those up to the Lord.

(17:09):
Continue to
remember,
my parents,
as I've asked in the past,
with everything going on. We're still waiting on his my father's appointment to follow-up and and check the status of things with the cancer and the treatments.
So continue to remember them. I remember that they might attend services again,
and and be in worship with others.

(17:30):
Continue to remember our friends, Greg and Kim as well. Same same issues we've talked about in the past.
But continue to remember them.
I
had the chance earlier today to stop in and speak to a gentleman we shared requests for on the show,
in the past. That's that's Jimmy Clayton. And I had the chance to stop in and and see Jimmy quickly briefly today,

(17:53):
because we're getting ready to start working on a project together,
where he's working to launch podcasts,
related to
coaching and and things and what he does with his career right now.
But, stopped in to see him and was just so thankful to see that smile and that positive attitude. And I know that his belief in God has helped him through,
everything that he's gone through. He still has some some things to deal with and go through, so we wanna continue to remember him in prayer as well. Planning on, getting the chance later this week to to to speak with him again, sit down with him, spend some time with him, and see what we can figure out.

(18:27):
I also wanna to throw a request out there for,
my my wife's cousin,
Kayla. Kayla is
Christian.
She's a,
music instructor.
She's actually my son's guitar instructor,
but she's had some issues,
lately,
that revolve that involved having to have surgery,

(18:49):
and she's
having some some some issues back with that, and and she's in her recovery.
She's doing okay, but we still wanna remember her in prayer,
that she is able to get back on the mend
and get back to
worshiping for the Lord in church and with the praise band and things she's involved with, as well as, helping to further along the skill set of of other aspiring young musicians.

(19:16):
Also, still continue to remember me.
Haven't had a flare up like I did last week,
but,
still just
going through everything with this medication
and trying to get used to it and still adjusting with the diabetes and you know, trying to keep track of my blood sugar and those kind of things. So just continue to throw me up in prayer. It's greatly appreciated.

(19:39):
Also want to,
ask prayer for a friend,
named Jimmy v. Jimmy v is known into people in
parts of the value for value world.
Jimmy v is a Christian man, and he's recently started a new podcast
where he's just having discussions about faith and Christianity and the beliefs and different things.
And the two episodes have been out. They've been tremendous,

(20:02):
very solid episodes.
But Jimmy, he's been doing that so far with a gentleman named Louis
or Luis Capote.
They're both
up in Canada.
They're doing a fantastic job. You can check that show out. It's called The Great Christian Revival. So if you wanna hear a bit of,
not necessarily debate or argument, but just varying viewpoints and trying to share those and and talk their way through them, please check out that show.

(20:28):
It's it's
available in your modern podcast apps. You can find it on the podcast index. I wanna lift them up in prayer for what they're doing and the way that they're they're going through on this show because I've I've enjoyed it tremendously so far, and I'm waiting to see what else they're gonna pull off and and put on the show.
So let's go ahead and, at this time,
before we talk about our next episode of the show, go ahead and take these requests to the lord in prayer.

(20:56):
Heavenly father, we thank you once again
for another week, another week where we can work to share your word with those
who choose to listen.
We hope that you would stir their hearts
in some way from this
and maybe even use it use them as a conduit
to take
this episode

(21:16):
and share it with someone else, that it may help them in some way. And it may even lead them to the Lord by understanding sin and the redemption and what they have available to them.
Wanna remember the request we're making this week. My mother and father,
Greg and Kim,
friend Jimmy Clayton,
myself,
Kayla,
as well as Jimmy v and Luis up in Canada with their new podcast and their new endeavor.

(21:40):
Watch over us, and and remember those in our audience who have unspoken requests they haven't shared with us. You know what those needs are, and you know the best way to address them with ways that are within your will.
We trust your judgment and have the faith
that you will make those decisions for us and guide us in the proper way.

(22:03):
Ultimately, Lord, we hope that
we're able to
bring others to know your son, that they can then accept him as their savior and then spend eternity in heaven with you and him and all of us who are saved.
To the name of your son, Jesus, we pray.
Amen.

(22:23):
So on our next episode, we're going to finish out our last episode on Eve, the woman, and what we're gonna look at is focus primarily on
Genesis chapter three verse 15, which was in our our scripture today, but we're gonna take that and use that to build and talk about redemption
through Eve's lineage

(22:44):
and the promise of a savior. We mentioned it briefly in this episode this week, but we're gonna look at that as a full episode
next week right here on the show. So join us on Bible Bites,
the podcast where we work to inspire faith
one bite at a time.

(23:44):
As we did last week, we're gonna close out the show
with a track from the value verse.
This is from Ben Dorfel of the Dorfels, and his track,
Pulls Me Up.
I want to bless your name
when everything
seems

(24:16):
To be brought to my knees
And show me where I'm fakin'
Cancer
was the storm
It showed me how weak my faith
is
It didn't take much to break it

(24:40):
You say keep looking at my eyes
to take me.

(25:01):
I'm sinking and I'm saying.
Oh, how I need a savior.
That's where I met fun Jesus.
It pulled me up

(25:55):
failures.
You're making them a reminder
of how I need a savior.
That's where I meet the Jesus.
That pulls me up
