JULY 3 - Truth Matters

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 19:9–10; Luke 3

“A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who breathes out lies will perish. It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury, much less for a slave to rule over princes.” — Proverbs 19:9–10

“Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.” — Luke 3:8

Have you ever been in a situation where telling the truth felt risky or uncomfortable? Or maybe you’ve seen someone pretend to be something they’re not just to impress others. The Bible is super clear—God cares deeply about truth and integrity. In Proverbs 19, we’re warned that lies always catch up with us, and in Luke 3, John the Baptist challenges people to show real change in their lives, not just talk the talk. Following Jesus isn’t about putting on a good show or pretending to be perfect. It’s about a real heart change that shows up in how we live.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Why Truth Matters: Proverbs reminds us that lies have consequences. Even if no one else sees it, God does. Are there any areas in your life where you need to choose truth, even when it's hard?

2. Real Repentance Shows: John the Baptist wasn’t impressed by people’s family history or religious background—he wanted to see fruit. What actions in your life show that your heart is genuinely following Jesus?

3. Don’t Just Look the Part: It’s easy to fake it—say the right things at youth group or post Bible verses online. But is your daily life reflecting a growing relationship with God? What’s one change you could make today to live more authentically?

BOTTOM LINE

God isn’t looking for perfect people—He’s looking for real ones. Living truthfully and with integrity shows that our hearts are truly turning toward Him.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Thank You for caring about the condition of my heart more than just how I appear on the outside. Help me to live honestly, speak truthfully, and show real change in my actions. When I mess up, give me the courage to repent and grow. Make me someone who lives out my faith in a way that honors You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
