Have you ever felt the need to seek safety or refuge when life gets overwhelming? Proverbs 18:10 reminds us that the name of the Lord is like a strong tower, a place where we can run for safety and security. It’s easy to rely on things like money, fame, or popularity for protection, but Proverbs 18:11 warns that these can be deceptive. Wealth or status may seem like a "strong city," but they are temporary and unreliable. True security only comes from the name of the Lord, who is unchanging and always present to protect and guide us.
In Exodus 27, God instructs the Israelites to build an altar of acacia wood, symbolizing a place of sacrifice and worship. The altar was a central part of their relationship with God, where they sought His presence and forgiveness. The structure of the altar, like the strong tower in Proverbs 18, provided a tangible space for the people to encounter God’s strength and protection.
Just like the Israelites had a physical altar to approach God, we have access to the ultimate refuge in God’s name. When life feels chaotic or uncertain, we can always turn to Him, knowing that He is the true source of security and peace.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Source of Strength: Where do you usually turn when you feel unsafe or uncertain? How can you make God your first refuge in times of trouble?
2. The Illusion of Wealth: Have you ever put too much trust in things like money or status? What are some ways you can remember that these things won’t give you the true security that God offers?
3. The Power of God's Name: How can you make God’s name central to your life, just as the altar was central to the Israelites’ worship?

BOTTOM LINE
When life feels unstable, we can always find safety in God’s name, our true strong tower, where we find security and peace.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my strong tower and the source of my security. Help me to remember that true strength comes from You alone, not from the things of this world. I choose to turn to You when I feel overwhelmed, trusting in Your name for refuge and peace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
