JUNE 25 - The Power of Words and Trusting God’s Plan

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 18:20-21; Psalm 73; Exodus 32

________________________________________

“From the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” — Proverbs 18:20-21

“But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.” — Psalm 73:2-3

“When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, ‘Up, make us gods who shall go before us.’” — Exodus 32:1

Words are powerful. Proverbs 18:20-21 reminds us that our words can bring life or death, satisfaction or harm. How we speak can shape not just our relationships but our own experiences. Think about the way you speak to others, and also how you speak to yourself. Are you using your words to build others up, or tear them down? Are your words full of faith and encouragement, or doubt and negativity?

Psalm 73 shows the struggle of the psalmist as he looks at the prosperity of the wicked and feels discouraged. He nearly loses his footing, envious of those who seem to have it all. It’s easy to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, especially when it seems like they’re succeeding without facing the same struggles. But the psalmist realizes that the prosperity of the wicked is only temporary, and the ultimate peace comes from trusting in God’s plan.

In Exodus 32, the people of Israel grew impatient waiting for Moses. Instead of trusting that God had a plan, they turned to Aaron to make them idols. In their impatience, they forgot how God had already shown His faithfulness. When things aren’t going as we expect, it’s easy to lose faith and try to take control in unhealthy ways, just like the Israelites did. But true peace comes from trusting God, even when we don’t see the full picture.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. The Power of Words: How do your words impact others and your own life? Do you use words to bring life, encouragement, and positivity, or do you sometimes use words to hurt or criticize?

2. Trusting God’s Timing: When was the last time you felt like things weren’t going your way? How can you remind yourself to trust God’s timing, even when it feels like He’s taking too long?

3. Patience and Faith: Like the Israelites, have you ever grown impatient with God’s plan? How can you wait with faith instead of rushing ahead and making decisions that might not be part of His plan?

BOTTOM LINE

Our words are powerful—use them wisely. Trust in God’s plan and timing, even when things don’t make sense, because He is faithful and His plan is always better than anything we can imagine.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that my words have the power to build up or tear down. Help me use my words to encourage and bring life to others. When I feel impatient or discouraged, help me trust Your plan and Your timing. Thank You for Your faithfulness, even when I don’t see the full picture. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
