“The poor use entreaties, but the rich answer roughly. A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” — Proverbs 18:23-24
“Then Moses said to the people of Israel, ‘See, the Lord has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; and He has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, with intelligence, with knowledge, and with all craftsmanship.’” — Exodus 35:30-31
“And they received from Moses all the contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work of the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning.” — Exodus 36:3

Proverbs 18:23-24 speaks to the impact of our relationships. It warns that while some people may be quick to speak and may have many companions, true friendship is found in those who stick with you, especially during tough times. The Bible shows us that there are friends who are like family, loyal and steady. As young people, we can often be tempted to gather as many friends as possible, but the Bible teaches us that the quality of our friendships is far more important than the quantity.
In Exodus 35-36, we see a beautiful example of people coming together with the right heart to do God’s work. The Israelites willingly gave their talents and resources to build the Tabernacle, and the work was done with dedication and unity. Just as Bezalel was filled with the Spirit of God to carry out a special task, we, too, are called to use our gifts in community. The teamwork shown here teaches us that great things happen when we work with the right people, doing the work God has called us to do. Our closest relationships should be with those who encourage us in our faith, who challenge us to be better, and who bring us closer to God.
When we surround ourselves with friends who share our values and support our growth, it strengthens us for the tasks God has for us. It’s important to build relationships that help us to walk faithfully and help others do the same.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Friendships and Influence: Who are the people you spend the most time with? Do they bring you closer to God, or do they pull you away?
2. Quality vs. Quantity: Do you have a lot of friends, or just a few close ones? How do you think the friendships you choose affect your life and your faith journey?
3. Using Your Gifts: Just as Bezalel used his talents for God's work, what gifts or abilities has God given you that you can use to help others or serve in your community?

BOTTOM LINE
True friends are those who help you grow in your faith and reflect God’s love. Choose relationships carefully, and always prioritize quality over quantity in your friendships.
