(00:00):
All right, let us go intochapter 2, chapter number 2,
verse 1, Wherefore, laying asideall malice, and all guile, and
hypocrisies, and envies, and allevil speakings, As newborn
babes, desire the sincere milkof the word, that ye may grow

(00:21):
thereby.
If so be ye have tasted that theLord is gracious.
we see here that we have aresponsibility.
We are responsible for gettingrid of malice, which is an
unforgiving spirit.
We are responsible for gettingrid of guile, which is
deceitfulness.

(00:43):
We are responsible for gettingrid of hypocrisies, envies,
jealousies, and all evilspeaking.
And as newborn babes craves fornatural milk, we ought to have
that same craving for the milkof God's word, since we have
tasted that the Lord isgracious.

(01:03):
All right, verse number four, towhom coming as unto a living
stone, let me read it again, towhom coming as unto a living
stone, disallowed indeed of men,but chosen of God and precious.
I like that.
We come as little babes, humble,to the living stone.

(01:27):
The living stone is JesusChrist, who was rejected of men,
but chosen of God the Father, and is precious.
I want you to know that JesusChrist is indeed precious.
Alright, verse number five.
Ye also, as lively stones, arebuilt up a spiritual house and

(01:47):
holy priesthood to offer upspiritual sacrifices acceptable
to God by Jesus Christ.
Wherefore, also it is containedin the scripture, Behold, I lay
in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he that
believeth on him shall not beconfounded.
Unto you therefore which believehe is precious, but unto them

(02:10):
which be disobedient.
The stone which the buildersdisallowed, the same is made the
head of the corner.
And a stone of stumbling, and arock of offense, even to them
which stumble at the word, beingdisobedient, whereunto also they
were appointed.
But ye are a chosen generation,a royal priesthood, and holy

(02:33):
nation, a peculiar people thatye should show forth the praises
of him who had called you out ofdarkness into his marvelous
light, which in time past werenot a people, but are now the
people of God, which had notobtained mercy, but now have
obtained mercy.

(02:53):
Let me read those verses fromthe Living Bible.
And now you have become living, building stones for God, for
God's use in building His house.
What's more, you are His holypriests.
He says, what's more, you areHis holy priests.
So come to Him, you who are, acceptable to Him because of

(03:13):
Jesus Christ, and to offer toGod those things that please
Him.
Come and offer to God thosethings that please Him.
I like that.
As the scripture expressesitself.
See, I am sending Christ to bethe carefully chosen precious
cornerstone of my church and Iwill never disappoint those who
trust in Him.
Yes, He is very precious to youwho believe and to those who

(03:36):
reject Him, well, The same stonethat was rejected by the
builders has become thecornerstone, the most honored
and important part of thebuilding.
And all the scriptures also sayHe is the stone that some will
stumble over and the rock thatwill make them fall.
They will stumble because theywill not listen to God's word

(03:58):
nor it.
And so this punishment mustfollow that they will fall.
But you are not like that.
for you have been chosen by Godhimself.
You are priests of the King.
You are holy and pure.
You are God's very own.
All this so that you may show toothers how God called you out of

(04:19):
the darkness into his wonderfullight.
Once you knew very little ofGod's kindness, now your very
lives have been changed by it.
Verse 11.
Dearly beloved, I beseech you asstrangers and pilgrims, abstain
from fleshy lusts.
Which war against the soul.

(04:39):
Having your conversation honestamong the Gentiles, that whereas
they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good
works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of
visitation.
Submit yourselves to everyordinance of man for the Lord's
sake, whether it be to the kingas supreme, or unto governor as

(04:59):
unto them that are sent by himfor the punishment of IEB doers
and for the praise of them thatdo well.
For so it is the will of Godthat with well doing ye may put
to silence the ignorance offoolish men.
let me read this from the livingBible, which makes it clearer.
Dear brothers, you are onlyvisitors here.

(05:21):
Since your real home is inheaven, I beg you to keep away
from the evil pleasures of thisworld.
They are not for you.
for they fight against your verysouls.
Be careful how you behave amongyour unsaved neighbors.
For then, even if they aresuspicious of you and talk
against you, they will end uppraising God for your good works

(05:42):
when Christ returns.
For the Lord's sake, obey everylaw of your government, those of
the King.
As head of the state and thoseof the king's officers, for he
has sent them to punish all whodo wrong and to honor those who
do right.
It is God's will that your goodlives should silence those who

(06:03):
foolishly condemn the gospelwithout knowing what it can do
for them having neverexperienced its power.
That's well said.
All right.
Verse 16.
As free and not using yourliberty for a cloak of
maliciousness, but as theservants of God.
Peter says here, even though wehave been born again of

(06:25):
incorruptible seed, which meanswe are not from here, we are
pilgrims, we are strangers, weare visitors down here.
Even though we are from heaven,we are to abide by the laws of
the land while we live here onthis earth.
And even though we are free, Wemust remember that we are the
servants of God and as servantsof God, we bring glory and

(06:45):
praise to God by obeying thelaws of the land.
Verse 17 he says, honor all men, love the brotherhood, fear God,
honor the king.
Servants be subject to yourmasters with all fear, not only
to the good and gentle, but alsoto the fraud.

(07:07):
For this is thankworthy, if aman for conscience toward God
endure grief, sufferingwrongfully.
For what glory is it, if when yebe buffeted for your faults,
when ye shall take it patiently?
But if when ye do well andsuffer for it, ye take it
patiently, this is acceptablewith God.

(07:28):
And in verse 18, peterinstructed the slaves to be
subject to their masters.
Whether they were good mastersor unreasonable masters.
Likewise, today, we are to besubject to our bosses on the job
as long as he or she is notasking us to do that which is
illegal or dishonest.
Because as Christians, we revealthe praise of God by our

(07:51):
attitudes and actions in labor,uh, relationships.
Alright?
Verse 21.
For even here unto where yecalled, because Christ also
suffered for us, leaving us anexample that ye should follow
his steps, who did no sin, neither was guile found in his
mouth.
Who?

(08:12):
When he was reviled, reviled notagain, and when he suffered, he
threatened not, but he committedhimself to him that judged
righteously.
Who his own self bare our sinsin his own body on the tree that
we being dead to sins shouldlive unto righteousness, by
whose stripes ye were redeemed.

(08:32):
Healed for ye were as sheepgoing astray, but are now
returned unto the shepherd andbishop of your souls.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
