(00:00):
chapter three verse one.

(00:01):
Likewise, you wives be insubjection to your own husbands
that if any, obey not the word.
They also may without the wordbe warned by the conversation of
the wives Now.
In this particular verse here,we have the unfortunate
relationship in which Darius,uh, a saved wife and an unsaved

(00:26):
husband.
Apparently, the wife became aChristian after they had
married.
Peter instructs the saved wife.
He says, likewise, which meansin the same manner.
He is continuing his thoughtfrom chapter 2.
Just like the servants are to besubject to their masters, so
must the saved wife, to herunsaved husband because he is

(00:50):
her head.
She is to continue on in thesame position of being in
subjection to him.
Now, if the unsaved husbandwants his saved wife to go to
the club, should the saved wifesubmit to that?
Absolutely not.
We see this clearly in the nextverse.
Look at verse number two.
While they behold your chasteconversation coupled with fear.

(01:13):
A Christian wife must live verycarefully before an unsaved
husband.
She is to preach a wordlesssermon by her pure life.
So this tells us she is not todo anything ungodly that he asks
her to do.
no.
No, she is to live a pure life.
She is to preach a wordlesssermon by her pure life where

(01:33):
she lives before him.
The most effective method for asaved wife to win her husband to
Christ is living a holy life inthe fear of God before him.
Jesus said, let your light soshine that men might see your
good works and glorify yourfather which is in heaven.

(01:55):
Whose adorning, let it not bethat outward adorning of
plaiting the hair, and ofwearing of gold, or of putting
on of apparel.
But let it be the hidden man ofthe heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornamentof a meek and quiet spirit,
which is in the sight of God ofgreat price.

(02:17):
Now Peter shows here that sexappeal does not win an unsaved
man to Christ.
Being beautiful on the inside, possessing a gentle and quiet
spirit, which is so precious toGod, is the thing that draws
them to Christ.
Alright.
Verse 5.

(02:37):
For after this manner in the oldtime, the holy women also, who
trusted in God, adornedthemselves, being in subjection
unto their own husbands.
Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord, whose
daughters ye are, as long as yedo well, and are not afraid with
any amazement.

(02:59):
Now let me read these two versesfrom the Living Bible.
It says this.
that kind of deep beauty wasseen in the saintly women of
old, who trusted God and fittedin with their husband's plans.
Sarah, for instance, obeyed herhusband's Abraham, honoring him

(03:20):
as the head of the house.
And if you do the same, you willbe following in her steps like
good daughters and doing what isright.
Then you would not need to fear.
Offending your husbands.
Listen.
It's something to note here thatSarah was such a beautiful
woman.
That several kings wanted her asa wife.

(03:42):
And for a king to want you ashis wife, you had to be
beautiful.
Because the king could havewhoever he wanted to have.
And so, Several kings wantedher, but all she wanted was
Abraham.
She loved her some Abraham.
She called him Lord.
She looked up to Abraham.

(04:03):
Listen, it is wonderful when awife can look up to her husband.
Think about this husband.
If your wife look up to you, then you are doing something
right.
Alright, verse number 7.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwellwith them according to
knowledge, giving honor unto thewife, as unto the weaker vessel,
and as being heirs together ofthe grace of life, that your

(04:27):
prayers Be not hindered.
Now, the Apostle Peter here isgiving instructions to the saved
husbands.
He now talks to the savedhusbands.
Here he instructs the husband toreverence his wife.
Listen, if we refuse to respect,to have high regard for our

(04:50):
wives, our prayers will behindered.
Our prayers will be put on hold.
God instructs the husband to bea husband of understanding.
Husbands we ought to conduct ouraffairs with our wives with a
gentle spirit in a soft tenderloving way.

(05:11):
Verse eight.
Finally be all of one mindhaving compassion one of another
love as brethren be pitiful becourteous.
Now the word here pitiful meanstender hearted.
The word courteous means Humbleminded.
Peter says here be tenderhearted and be humble minded.

(05:35):
Alright, verse number nine.
Not rendering evil for evil, orrailing for railing, but
contrary wise, blessing.
Knowing that ye are there untocalled, that ye should inherit a
blessing.
For he that would love life, andsee good days, let him refrain
his tongue from evil, and hislips that they speak, Nogal.

(05:57):
Let him extue evil and do good.
Let him seek peace and ensue it.
For the eyes of the Lord areover the righteous, and his ears
are open unto their prayers.
For the face of the Lord isagainst them that do evil.
And who is he that will harm youif ye be followers of that which
is good?
And if ye suffer forrighteousness, Sake, happy are

(06:19):
ye, and be not afraid of thatterror, neither be troubled.
But sanctify the Lord God inyour hearts, and be ready always
to give an answer to every manthat asketh you a reason of the
hope that is in you withmeekness and fear.
Here in this passage we see fiveprinciples to obtaining the good

(06:43):
life.
Five principles to obtaining thegood life.
Principle number one, controlyour tongue.
Number two, keep your lips fromtelling lies or deceitful
things.
Number three, hate evil.
Number four, do good.
Number five, go after peace.
Seek to be peacemakers.

(07:05):
All right, then he says in verse15, for us to always be ready to
give an answer to everyone whoasks us why we believe the way
we do, and we must do it in agentle and respectful way.
Listen, there is a right way anda wrong way to do everything.
When we present the word of Godto others, we must do it in a

(07:27):
gentle and respectful way.
Alright?
Verse 16, Having a goodconscience, that whereas they
speak evil of you as ofevildoers, they may be ashamed
that falsely accused your goodconversation in Christ.
For it is better, if the will ofGod be so, that ye suffer for

(07:47):
well doing than for evildoing.
For Christ also had oncesuffered for sins.
The jest for the unjust, that hemight bring us to God, being put
to death in the flesh, butquickened by the spirit, by
which also he went and preachedunto the spirits in prison,
which sometime were disobedient, when once the long suffering of

(08:10):
God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing,
wherein few, that is, eightsouls were saved by water.
Now, verse 19 is one of the mostmisunderstood verses of
scripture.
The key word to this entirepassage is in verse 20.

(08:31):
It is the little word, when.
When did Christ preach to thespirits in prison?
It says, When once the longsuffering of God waited in the
days of Noah, for a hundred andtwenty years, Noah had preached
the word of God.
He saved his family, but no oneelse.
It was the Spirit of Christ whospoke through Noah.

(08:52):
In Noah's day, in Christ's day,those who rejected Noah's
message were in prison.
The thought is that Christ'sdeath meant nothing to them just
as it means nothing to a greatmany people today, who as a
result will also come intoJudgement.
Alright, verse 21.

(09:13):
The life figure where unto evenbaptism do also now save us,
not, not the putting away of thefilth of the flesh, but the
answer of a good consciencetoward God.
by the resurrection of JesusChrist who has gone into heaven
and is on the right hand of God,angels and authorities and
powers being made subject untohim.

(09:36):
Now the word baptism here is thebaptism of the Holy Spirit.
Our fate in the resurrection ofJesus Christ brought the work of
the Holy Spirit into our livesand regenerated us.
