Episode Transcript

(00:00):
Chapter 4, verse 1, For as muchthen as Christ had suffered for

(00:04):
us in the flesh, arm yourselveslikewise with the same mind.
For he that had suffered in theflesh had ceased from sin, that
he no longer should live therest of his time in the flesh to
the lust of men.
But to the will of God, let meread those two verses from the
living Bible.
It says, since Christ sufferedand underwent pain, you must

(00:27):
have the same attitude he did.
You must be ready to suffer too.
For remember, when your bodysuffers, sin loses its power and
you won't be spending the restof your life chasing after evil
desires, but will be anxious todo the will of God.
Peter makes it clear here thatwe who are born again.

(00:48):
Have a new nature that is notgoing to live in sin.
Listen, we do not practice sin.
It's just that simple.
Alright, number three.
For the time past of our lifemay suffice us to have wrought
the will of the Gentiles when wewalked in lavishness, lust,

(01:08):
excessive wine, revelings,banquets, and abominable
idolatries.
When they think it's strange.
That ye run not with them to thesame excess of riot, speaking
evil of you.
Who shall give account to himthat is ready to judge the quick
and the dead?
For this cause was the gospelpreached also to them that are

(01:30):
dead, that they might be judgedaccording to men in the flesh,
but live according to God in thespirit.
Now he says here for this cause,that is, Because of coming
judgment, the gospel waspreached.
God wants the gospel preached toall men.
And if they don't hear thegospel or respond to the gospel,

(01:53):
He makes it very clear that theyare already dead in trespasses
and sins and they will be judgedas men in the flesh.
But if they accept Christ, theycan live according to God in the
Spirit.
Verse 7, But the end of allthings is at hand.
Be ye therefore sober and watchunto prayer.

(02:18):
And above all things havefervent charity among
yourselves.
For charity shall cover themultitude of sins.
Use hospitality one to anotherwithout grudging.
As every man hath received thegift.
Even so, minister the same oneto another as good stewards of

(02:40):
the manifold grace of God.
Now the word, the gift, means aparticular spiritual gift.
Every child of God has at leastone gift.
Some have several.
Peter instructs us here to useour gift, our gifts, for
service, to serve one another,to serve the body of Jesus

(03:06):
Christ.
All right, verse 11.
If any man speak, let him speakas the oracles of God.
If any man minister, let him doit as of Jesus Christ.
The ability which God give it,that God in all things may be
glorified through Jesus Christto whom be praise and dominion
forever and ever.

(03:28):
Amen.
Now let me read that verse fromthe Living Bible.
Are ye called to preach?
Then preach as though Godhimself were speaking.
We're speaking through you.
Are you called to help others?
Do it with all the strength andenergy that God supplies so that
God will be glorified throughJesus Christ.

(03:48):
To Him be glory and powerforever and ever.
Amen.
Alright, verse number 12.
Beloved, think it not strangeconcerning the fiery trial which
is to try you as though somestrange thing happened unto you.
But rejoice inasmuch as ye arepartakers of Christ's
sufferings, that when his gloryshall be revealed, ye may be

(04:11):
glad also with exceeding joy.
And if ye be reproached for thename of Christ, happy are ye,
for the Spirit of glory and ofGod rested upon you.
And on their part he is evilspoken of, but on your part he
is glorified.
But let none of you suffer as amurderer, or as a thief, or as
an evildoer.

(04:32):
Or as a busybody in other men'smatter.
Yet, if any man suffer as aChristian, let him not be
ashamed, but let him glorify Godon this behalf.
For the time has come thatjudgment must begin at the house
of God.
And if it first began at us,what shall the end be of them

(04:52):
that obey not the gospel of God?
And if the righteous scarcely besaved, where shall the ungodly
and the sinner appear?
Wherefore, let them that sufferaccording to the will of God
commit the keeping of theirsouls to Him in well doing, as
unto a faithful Creator.
