(00:00):
Chapter two, verse one.

(00:02):
But there were false prophetsalso among the people, even as
there shall be false teachersamong you, who privately shall
bring in damnable hearsays, evendenying the Lord that bought
them, and bring upon themselvesswift destruction.
Destruction.
Now Peter is writing to JewishChristians, and the people he is

(00:25):
talking about is Israel.
Let me say it again, Peter iswriting to Jewish Christians,
and when he says, and thepeople, he is referring to
Israel.
There were false prophets.
And he goes on to say, just likethere were false prophets, then

(00:45):
there will be false teachersthat will come to them, trying
to turn their hearts from thetruth that was taught by him and
the rest of the apostles.
This is why Peter said that aslong as he was alive and even
after his departure, he wantedthem to remember the truth that
was given unto them.
Peter knew that apostasy wascoming.

(01:07):
Listen, you have to understandthat false teachers will say
some things that are true.
And they use this approach tolure you in.
Jesus says this in Matthewchapter 7 verse 15, Beware of
false prophets, which come toyou in sheep's clothing, but
inwardly they are raveningwolves.

(01:28):
Paul warned the elders ofEphesus in Acts chapter 20 and
verse 29.
He says for I know this thatafter my departing shall
grievous wolves enter in amongyou not sparing the flock.
All right verse number two.
And many shall follow theirpernicious ways, by reason of
whom the way of truth shall beevil spoken of.

(01:50):
And through covetousness shallthey with finished words make
merchandise of you.
Whose judgment now of a longtime lingereth not, and their
damnation slumbereth not.
In this short, passage, we seefour things about the false
teachers and their teachings.
Number one, we see the cause offalse teaching, and that is, it

(02:12):
is evil ambition.
These teachers, in their greed, will tell you anything to get
hold of them.
money.
It is evil ambition.
False teaching comes from thedesire to put his own ideas in
the place of the truth of JesusChrist.

(02:32):
The false teacher is guilty ofnothing less than of usurping
the place of the truth.
All right, number two, we seethe method of false teaching.
We see the method of falseteaching.
Falsehood is easily resistedwhen it is presented as
falsehood.
It is when it is disguised astruth that it becomes very

(02:54):
dangerous.
Any teacher's teaching must betested by the words and presence
of Jesus Christ himself.
Alright, number three, we seethe effect of the false
teaching.
It encouraged men to take theway of immorality.
The false teachers were tellingpeople that grace was in, and

(03:14):
Exhaustible, and that thereforethey were free to sin as much as
they wanted to because gracewould forgive.
Listen, any teaching whichproduces a person who repels men
and women from Christ instead ofattracting them to it is false
teaching.
And it is the work of those whoare enemies of Christ.
Listen.

(03:34):
Any teaching which produces aperson who repels men and women
from Christianity instead ofattracting them to it is false
teaching.
And the work of those who areenemies of Christ.
Alright, number four.
We see the ultimate end of falseteaching.
And that is destruction.
Sentence was passed on the falseprophets long ago and every

(03:58):
false teachers today will paythe terrible price of their
falsehood.
No man who leads another astraywill ever escape his own death.
Jershmint.
Verse 4.
For if God spared not the angelsthat sinned, but cast them down
to hell and delivered them intochains of darkness to be

(04:18):
reserved unto Jershmint, andspared not the old world, but
saved Noah the eighth person, apreacher of righteousness
bringing in the flood upon theworld of the ungodliness.
Or of the ungodly, and turningthe cities of Sodom and Gomorrah
into ashes, condemned them withan overthrow, making them an

(04:39):
ensample unto those that aftershould live ungodly, and
delivered just Lot, vexed withthe filthy conversation of the
wicked.
For that righteous man dwellingamong them in seeing and
hearing, vexed his righteoussoul from day to day with their
unlawful deeds.
The Lord knoweth how to deliverthe godly out of temptations,

(05:03):
and to reserve the unjust untothe day of judgment to be
punished.
Peter uses the reference of theflood of Noah's day, which came
upon the old world, toillustrate the future universal
judgment of this world.
The deliverance of Lot fromSodom and Gomorrah is used To

(05:24):
illustrate the fact that Godwould deliver his own from the
coming universal judgment.
Alright, look at verse number10.
But chiefly them that walk afterthe flesh in the lust of
uncleanness and despisegovernment.
Presumptuous are they.
Self willed, they are not afraidto speak evil of dignities,

(05:47):
whereas angels, which aregreater in power and might,
bring not, read an accusationagainst them before the Lord.
But these, as natural brutebeasts, made to be taken and
destroyed, speak evil of thethings that they understand not,
and shall utterly perish intheir own corruption.
And they shall receive thereward of unrighteousness, as

(06:10):
they that counted pleasure torot in the daytime.
Spots they are, and blemishes, sporting themselves with their
own deceivings, while they feastwith you.
Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin.
Beguiling unstable souls, andheart they have exercised with

(06:32):
courageous practices.
Cursed children.
We shall forsaken the right wayand I'll gone astray following
the way of Baam the son of bosomwho loved the wages of
unrighteousness.
Now, BAAM is mentioned threetimes in the closing books of

(06:52):
the New Testament in the book ofJude.
It is the era of Balam.
In the book of Revelation, it isthe doctrine of Balam.
And in 2 Peter it is the way ofBalaam.
Now what is the way of Balaam?
Peter says here that he is theson of Boaz who loved the wages

(07:14):
of unrighteousness.
Balaam knew that he shouldn't goup and prophesy against Israel.
But he loved The price that wasoffered to him.
Therefore, the way of Balaam isthe covetousness of one who does
religious work for personalprofit.
And this is one of the ways afalse religious teacher can be

(07:37):
identified.
He loves money.
Alright, verse 16.
But was rebuked for hisiniquity.
The dumbass.
speaking with man's voice forbad, the madness of the prophet.
These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a
tempest, to whom the mist ofdarkness is reserved forever.

(08:00):
For when they speak greatswelling words of vanity, they
are lured through the lust ofthe flesh, through much
wantonness, those that wereclean, escaped from them who
live in error.
While they promised themliberty, they themselves are the
servants of corruption.
For of whom a man is overcome,of the same is he brought in

(08:21):
bondage.
For if after they have escapedthe pollutions of the world
through the knowledge of theLord and Savior Jesus Christ,
they are again entangled thereinand overcome.
The latter end is worse withthem than the beginning.
For it had been better for themnot to have known the way of
righteousness than after theyhave known it to turn from the

(08:42):
Holy Commandment delivered untothem.
Peter says here that the falseteachers pervert the truth of
God and they do it for their ownadvantage.
These false teachers exaltthemselves instead of exalting
Christ.
They do not use the word of God.

(09:02):
Except for a few little prooftexts that more or less clothe
their teachings with a pioushalo.
They use big words which arecounterfeit words.
They try to impress people intobelieving that they are very
intellectual and veryintelligent and they are
interested in making money.

(09:24):
They promise people freedom.
In other words, free to dowhatever a person's heart
desire.
All sorts of immorality.
They call that freedom but failto realize that they themselves
are not free.
They are slaves.
They are slaves to the sinmaster.
Then Peter concludes all this bysaying that it would actually
have been better for them not tohave known the way of

(09:44):
righteousness than having knownit and to turn from the gospel.
Dr.
A.
C.
Gabyland says it best.
He says, Friends, if you came inhere today unsaved, and you walk
out of here unsaved, I am theworst enemy you have ever had,
because you have heard thegospel, and you can never go

(10:05):
into the presence of God andtell Him that you have never
heard the gospel.
You have heard it, and it willbe worse for you when God
pronounce his judgment than forany heathen in the darkest part
of the earth today.
That is well said.
That is well said.
Listen, this is why the falseteachers shall receive a greater

(10:26):
judgment because they know theword of God, but have chosen to
go against it for personal gain.
All right, verse 22, but it hashappened unto them according to
the true proverb, the dog.
It's turned to his own vomitagain, and the soul that was
washed to her wallowing in themire.

(10:50):
Now, Peter speaks of these falseteachers using the term dog.
It's interesting that he woulduse the term dog.
And the reason why he used theterm dog, is because to the
Jewish mind, there was nothinglower than a dog.
The dog is turned to his ownvomit again.
Peter draws this from Proverbs26 and verse 11.

(11:11):
And he uses this to show thatthey will return to their true,
natural, unchanged conditions.
He's speaking here of the falseteachers.
