(00:00):
Chapter 13.
Let brotherly love continue, benot forgiveful to entertain
strangers, for thereby some haveentertained angels unawares.
Remember them that are in bonds,as bound with them, and them
which suffer adversity, as beingyourselves also in the body.

(00:22):
Now Paul is simply saying herein this passage for them to
continue to walk in the love ofGod toward each other.
He instructs them to be kind andhospitable.
to strangers.
He tells them to always bemindful of the Christians who
were in prison for the gospelsake.
Keep them close to your heartsin thoughts and in the same
position.
Paul understood this all sowell.

(00:45):
Hallelujah.
All right.
Look at verse number four.
Marriage is honorable in all andthe bed undefiled, but homongous
and adulterous.
God will judge.
Marriage is honorable in theeyes of God.
It is honorable because Godhimself, God instituted it.
God married the first couple onearth, Adam and Eve.

(01:07):
Fornication, which is sexoutside of marriage, and
adultery, sex outside of themarried relation, is totally
prohibited and unacceptable inthe eyes of God.
God will judge all who are amongus and adulterers.
God is serious about family.
I say God is serious aboutfamily.

(01:28):
He is serious about marriage.
The family is the very center ofthe whole structure and it is
the very center of the church.
God started creation off with amarriage.
Shacking up plain house isunacceptable.
before God.
All right, let's look at versesfive and six.

(01:49):
Let your conversation be withoutcovetousness and be content with
such things as ye have.
For he had said, I will neverleave thee nor forsake thee, so
that we may boldly say, The Lordis my helper, and I will not
fear what man shall do unto me.
Now he tells them not to belovers of money, but to be
content in whatever state theyfind themselves in.

(02:09):
And know of a surety that Godwill never leave or forsake you.
We can boldly say that the Lordis our helper.
And because he is our helper, wewill not fear what man shall do
to us physically.
I believe that Paul was gettingthem ready for the persecutions
that lied ahead of them.
Alright, let's look at versenumber seven.
Remember them which have therule over you, who have spoken

(02:32):
unto you the word of God, whosefaith follow, considering the
end of their conversation.
Now Paul is saying here for themto keep before them the leaders
who taught them the word of Godas their examples.
these leaders were greatexamples to imitate.
All right, look at verse numbereight.
Jesus Christ, the same yesterdayand today and forever.

(02:52):
Jesus Christ is the sameyesterday, today, and forever in
his character, in his person, and in his attributes.
Hallelujah.
All right, verse number nine.
Be not carried about with diversand strange doctrines, for it is
a good thing that the heart beestablished with grace, not with
meats which have not profitedthem that have been occupied.

(03:15):
Therein.
Now, Paul says this in firstCorinthians chapter eight and
verse eight, but me commended usnot to God for neither.
If we eat, are we the better?
Neither.
If we eat not, are we the worse?
Paul is saying the same thinghere in this verse.
Don't be deceived by strangeteachings concerning diets,
ceremonies, and rituals, whichhas not and will not profit

(03:39):
anyone.
Alright, verse number 10.
We have an altar, whereof theyhave no right to eat which serve
the tabernacle.
Paul is making a comparisonbetween what Israel had under
the old covenant in contrast tothe better things of the new
covenant.
Today we have an altar, which isthe throne of grace.
It used to be a throne ofjudgment.
But because of the shared bloodof Jesus that has been placed

(04:01):
there, we now have salvation andgrace.
All right, verses 11 and 12.
For the bodies of those beastswhose blood is brought into the
sanctuary by the high priest forsin are burned without the
count.
Wherefore Jesus also that hemight be saved.
Sanctify the people with his ownblood suffered without the gate

(04:23):
now under the Mosaic system thehigh priest brought the blood of
the slain animals into thesanctuary as a sacrifice for sin
and then the bodies of theanimals were burned outside the
city this was called the sinoffering by the same token Jesus
died outside of the city whybecause he was the sin offering
The sin offering was taken awayfrom the temple and burned

(04:45):
outside of the camp.
Jesus was our sin offering Hepaid the penalty for our sin All
right, let's look at verses 13and 14.
Let us go therefore unto himwithout the camp bearing his
reproach For here we have nocontinuing city But we seek one
to come.
Now the living Bible says itbest.

(05:07):
It reads, so let us go out tohim beyond the city walls that
is outside the interest of thisworld, being willing to be
despised, to suffer with him, bearing his shame for this world
is not our home.
We are looking forward to oureverlasting home in heaven.
Oh, I like that.
All right, look at verses 15 and16.
By him, thou full of us, offerthe sacrifice of praise to God

(05:31):
continually, that is, the fruitof our lips, given thanks to his
name.
But to do good and tocommunicate, forget not.
For with such sacrifices God iswell Now, we ought to always
offer the sacrifice of praise toGod by giving Him thanks for all
that He has done and are doingand shall do.

(05:51):
And we ought to do good and toshare with others who are in
need, for with such sacrificesGod is well pleased.
Alright, look at verses 17through 19.
Obey them that have the ruleover you, and submit yourselves,
for they watch over you.
For your souls as they that mustgive account that they may do it
with joy and not with grief forthat is Unprofitable for you

(06:14):
pray for us for we trust we havea good conscience in all things
willing to live honestly But Ibeseech you the rather to do
this that I may be restored toyou the sooner Paul tells them
to be obedient and submissive tothe leaders that were placed
over them.
Why?
Because they watch over theirsouls.
why do they do that?
Because they have to give anaccount for each of you.

(06:36):
God has placed you under theircare and they are responsible
for your souls as shepherds.
They are responsible for thecare of you, the sheep.
He instructs them to be obedientand submissive to them so that
they can do their job asshepherds with joy instead of
with grief.
Paul then asks them to pray forthem.

(06:58):
He says our conscience is clearand we want to keep it that way.
Listen, a good conscience isproduced when our life is good.
is aligned with the Word of God.
The Word of God will keep youhonest.
Then he says, I especially needyour prayers to come back to you
sooner.
That God will allow me to cometo you sooner.

(07:20):
All right, verses 20 and 21.
Now the God of peace thatbrought again from the dead our
Lord Jesus, that great shepherdof the sheep through the blood
of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good
work.
To do his will, working in youthat which is well pleasing in
his sight, through Jesus Christ,to whom be glory forever and

(07:40):
ever.
Amen.
Now Jesus is presented here inthis passage as the Great
Shepherd.
In Psalm 22 he is presented asthe Good Shepherd.
In John chapter 10 and verse 11he calls himself the Good
Shepherd.
As the good shepherd, he gavehis life for the sheep.
As the great shepherd, heperfects or matures the sheep.
We see, that here and also inPsalm 23.

(08:02):
Because the Lord is my shepherd,I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in the meadowgrass and leaves me beside the
quiet streams.
He leads us in his word, feedingus, nourishing us, causing us to
grow and grow until we reach themature state in him.
Then in Psalm 24, he ispresented as the chief shepherd.

(08:23):
First Peter chapter 5 in verse 4reads, And when the chief
shepherd shall appear, he shallreceive a crown of glory that
faded not away.
Jesus died in the past as thegood shepherd.
He is coming one day as thechief shepherd for his sheep.
Today, he is our great shepherd.
All right, let's look at verses22 through 25.

(08:45):
And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation,
for I have written a letter untoyou in few words.
Know ye that our brother Timothyis set at liberty, with whom, if
he come shortly, I will see you.
Salute all them that have therule over you, and all the
saints.
They of Italy salute you.
Grace be with you all.

(09:06):
Amen.
Now, the living Bible reads itlike this.
Brethren, please listenpatiently to what I have said in
this letter, for it is a shortone.
I want you to know that BrotherTimothy is now out of jail.
If he comes here soon, I willcome with him to see you.
Give my greetings to all yourleaders and to the other
believers there.
The Christians from Italy, whoare here with me, send you their

(09:29):
love.
God's grace be with you all.
Goodbye.
The King James Version saysgrace be with you all.
Amen

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
