chapter 5, verses 1 through 5.

(00:03):
Whosoever believeth that JesusChrist is the Christ is born of
God, and every one that lovethhim that begat loveth him also
that is begotten of him.
By this we know that we love thechildren of God when we love God
and keep his commandments.
For this is the love of God thatwe keep his commandments and his
commandments are not grievousfor whatsoever is born of God

(00:25):
overcome at the world.
And this is the victory thatovercometh the world, even our
fate.
Who is he that overcometh theworld, but he that believed that
Jesus is the son of God.
Now John says something very, interesting here in this
passage.
He says everyone that loves him, that begat which is the Father,
loves him also that is begottenof him, which is his Son, Jesus

(00:46):
Christ.
Therefore, if you love God theFather, you love his Son also.
John goes on to show us thatobedience is the only proof of
love.
Then he says that hiscommandments are not grievous.
His commandments are not aburden, but a privilege.
And an opportunity to show ourlove for him.
Then we see that everyone whobelieves that Jesus is the Son

(01:07):
of God has a conquering fate.
We have a fate that resists theinfections of the world.
We have a strength that enduresthe attacks of the world.
Life is full of things that seekto take our fate away.
there are the sorrows and theperplexities of life,
disappointments and thefrustrations of life.
The failures and discouragementsof life.

(01:29):
But if we believe in the Son ofGod, we believe in a God who
himself went through all this, even to the cross, and who can,
therefore, help us.
We have the indestructible hopeof final victory.
The world did its worst to Jesusand failed.
After the cross came theresurrection.
After the shame came glory.

(01:51):
This same Jesus who is in us andwith us once saw life at its
grimace to whom life did itsworst.
He died, conquered death, andoffers us a share in that
victory.
If we believe that Jesus is theSon of God, we have with us
always Christ, the victor, tomake us.

(02:12):
Victorious.
Oh, hallelujah.
Look at verses six througheight.
This is he that came by waterand blood, even Jesus Christ,
not by water only, but by waterand blood.
And it is the Spirit that bearwitness, because the Spirit is
truth.
For there are three that bearrecord in heaven, the Father,
the Word, and the Holy Ghost.

(02:33):
And these three are one.
And there are three that bearwitness in earth, the Spirit,
and the water and the blood.
And these three agree.
And one.
Now in heaven, we have threethat bear witness and three in
the earth that bears witness.
Now what is the witness of thewater?
It is when Jesus was baptized inwater by John the Baptist.

(02:53):
What is the witness of thespirit?
It is when the Holy Spiritdescended upon Jesus while he
was in the water, doing hisbaptism by John the Baptist.
What is the witness of theblood?
On the cross, Jesus blood waspoured out to God for us when
they pierced him in his side.
Let's look at verses 9 through12.
If we receive the witness ofmen, the witness of God is

(03:16):
greater.
For this is the witness of Godwhich hath testified of his Son.
He that believeth on the Son ofGod hath the witness in himself.
He that believeth not God hathmade him a liar.
Because he believeth not therecord that God gave of his Son.
And this the record that Godhath given to us eternal life.
And this life is in his Son.

(03:37):
He that hath the Son.
Had life and he that had not theson of God, had not life.
Now John continues his attack onthe falsehood of Gnostics.
He reminds the believers thatJesus and Jesus alone is the
answer for the world today.
If you are in him, you haveeternal life, but if you are
not, you are lost in your sins.

(03:58):
Jesus is the way, the truth andthe life.
Alright, let's look at versenumber 13.
These things have I written untoyou that believe on the name of
the Son of God, that ye may knowthat ye have eternal life, and
that ye may believe on the nameof the Son of God.
Now John wanted them to knowthat their salvation was
eternal.
We are eternally saved, and hewanted them to stand firm in the

(04:22):
truth.
Alright, look at verses 14 and15.
And this is the confidence thatwe have in him, that if we ask
Anything according to His will,He heareth us, and if we know
that He hear us, whatsoever weask, we know that we have the
petitions that we desired ofHim.
Oh, I like that.

(04:42):
Listen, anything asked inaccordance to His will, He hears
and answers.
How do we get to the place whereeverything we ask for, we
already know before we ask thatit is according to His will?
Well, John gave the answerearlier in our studies when we
love like God loves and do thethings that are pleasing in his

(05:03):
sight Then will we know his willand everything axed will be in
accordance To our knowledge ofhis will and then we will have
no doubt that our petitions willbe answered All right verse
number 16 if any man see hisbrother Sin, a sin, which is not

(05:23):
unto debt, he shall ask, and heshall give him life for them
that sin not unto debt.
There is a sin unto debt, I donot say that he shall pray for
it.
Now John says here that there isa sin that brings immediately
physical death.
For example, Adonai and Sapphiradropped dead on the spot at the
feet of the apostle Peter forlying to the Holy Spirit.

(05:45):
Some of the Christian believersimmediately died for taking
communion in the wrong manner.
Alright, let's look at verses 17through 21.
All unrighteousness is sin andthere is a sin, not unto debt.
We know that whosoever is bornof God.
Sin did not, but he that isbegotten of God, keep it
himself.
And that wicked one touched himnot.
And we know that we are of Godand the whole world lied in

(06:08):
wickedness and we know that theSon of God has come and have
given us an understanding thatwe may know him.
That is true and we are.
In him that is true, even in hisson, Jesus Christ, that is the
true God and eternal life.
Little children, keep yourselvesfrom idols.
Amen.
John makes it clear thatregardless of a sin unto death

(06:30):
or not, all unrighteousness issin.
No sin is special.
God hates all sins.
Period.
Then we see again that all whoare born of God does not
practice sin.
Then he finishes this letterwith a bang.
He let us know that we areuntouchable.
The evil one cannot touch us.
He reminds the believers thatGod is the true God and that

(06:52):
eternal life comes from Him andHim alone.
Don't allow the Gnostics to leadyou from the true God to dumb
idols.
There is only one true God andHim only shall we worship, love,
and adore.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
