This is a spotlight on the Scripture, Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

This is a beautiful verse, especially when we think about Christ, who is both the new and the living way, and also the old path to follow, being the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And who else but Jesus gives rest to the soul?

God, speaking through prophets, advises people to stop and reflect like travelers unsure of their path. They are encouraged to ask about the old ways of the patriarchs, judges, kings, and prophets, and follow their example. This would bring them peace and God's protection.

However, the people refused to follow this advice. Despite the prophets showing them the right way and others finding it true, they still wouldn't listen and reject the blessings offered to them.

Today God had appointed (preachers and pastors) as watchmen to warn the people of the impending dangers that were coming. These  (preachers and pastors) fulfilled their duty by warning the people about their sins and the consequences. Just as watchmen in ancient times stood on towers or hills to alert others of approaching enemies by sounding a trumpet, the prophets acted as spiritual watchmen, giving early warnings from God. Ask for the old paths. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. This is a spotlight on the Scripture
