Speaker 1 (00:19):
Welcome to Biblical Talks.
Sermon of the Week.
I posted this sermon maybe theearly part of the year, I cannot
remember.
But the late Dr Lockridge tookus on a journey and he unlocked
the powerful majesty of ourCreator and the incredible work

(00:40):
that His Son, jesus Christ, accomplished on the cross and
the victory work that his son, jesus Christ, accomplished on
the cross and the victory of hisresurrection.
Let's hear from the late DrLockridge.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I've come to say today that in these days when we
are killing ourselves trying tolive, people still think that

(01:21):
they can find peace of mind inpills.
They try to eat their way toecstasy.
They try to drink their way topleasure.
They try to smoke their way tosettled nerves.
They try to puff their way topopularity and push their way to

(01:41):
power.
Puff their way to popularityand push their way to power.
They try to bully their way tofriendship and bum their way to
world peace.
But I've come today to say Iknow where a poor man has a
chance, where a sick man can getwell, where an ignorant man can

(02:04):
become wise.
A bad man can be made good, agood man can be made better and
even a dead man can be madealive.
It's in Jesus Christ.
We live unto the Lord.
Lord, and when we die we dieunto the Lord.

(02:30):
Yea, the gradient for JesusChrist is Lord.
Now, this word Lord means havingpower or authority.

(02:53):
The Great Commission is basedon the claims of our Savior's
Lordship.
Jesus came and spake unto them, saying All power is given unto
me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye, therefore, and teach allnations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of theSon and of the Holy Ghost, and

(03:16):
teaching them to observe allthings whatsoever.
I have commanded you and, lo, Iam with you always, even unto
the end of the world.
Lord means ownership.
His lordship is based on hisownership.

(03:38):
The earth is the Lord's and thefullness thereof, the world and
they that dwell therein, for hehath founded it upon the seas
and established it upon thefloods.
Now, he didn't have to put asignature in the corner of a
sunrise he's the owner.

(03:59):
He didn't have to put a laundrymark in the lapel of a meadow
he's the owner.
He didn't have to put a laundrymark in the lapel of a meadow
he's the owner.
He didn't have to carve hisinitials in the side of the
mountain he's the owner.
He didn't have to put a brandon the cattle of a thousand
hills he's the owner.
He didn't have to take out acopyright on the songs that he

(04:22):
gives the birds to sing he's theowner.
Beyond the human level, the wordLord stands as a reverent
allusion to God.
Now, the Orthodox Hebrew, inJesus' day is in our home Would
not even pronounce the sacredname God, jehovah or Yahweh.

(04:51):
Instead, when he read thesacred and incommunicable name
of God.
He would simply say the Lord.
Name of God.
He would simply say the Lord.
Here, oh Israel, the Lord, ourGod is one law.
Now Christians have applied thistitle to Christ in the latter

(05:12):
usage, on either the human ordivine level.
The title law Lord is a mark ofrespect and implied pledge of
obedience.
Once, simon, simon Peter, stoodbefore a hostile crowd and said
God has made that same Christwhom you've crucified, both Lord
and Christ.
Christ represents the thingthat God has done to redeem us.

(05:40):
Lord represents what we oughtto do because we are redeemed
Now.
We ought to call him ownerbecause he possesses absolutely
our lives.
In him we live and move andhave our being.

(06:02):
We ought to call him owner.
We ought to call him father andbe obedient, sons and daughters
, for he's our only hope andhe's our only help.
God is our refuge and ourstrength.

(06:24):
He's a very present help introuble.
Therefore, shall not we fear, though the earth be removed, and
though the mountains be carriedinto the midst of the sea,
though the waters thereof roarand be troubled.
Though the mountains shake withthe swelling thereof, there is
a river, the streams whereofshall make glad the city of God,

(06:46):
the holy place of thetabernacles of the Most High God
is in the midst of her and sheshall not be moved.
God shall help her.
And that right early theheathen raged.
The kingdoms were moved.
He uttered his voice and theearth melted.
The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

(07:08):
Come behold the works of theLord.
What desolations he hath madein the earth.
He maketh walls to cease untothe ends of the earth.
He breaketh the bow and cutteththe spear and sunder and
burneth the chariot in the fire.
Be still and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among theheathen.

(07:30):
I will be exalted among theearth.
The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.
Jesus is Lord because he camedown the stairway of heaven.
Born in Bethlehem, hid in Egypt, brought up in Nazareth,

(07:52):
baptized in Jordan, tempted inthe wilderness, he performed
miracles by the roadside.
He healed multitudes withoutmedicine and made no charges for
his service.
He conquered everything thatcame up against him.
He took your sins and mine andwent out on Calvary and there

(08:13):
died.
While hanging on that cross, jesus said several things, but
when the thief taunted him andsaid if you be the Christ, come
down from the cross and saveyourself and us.

(08:35):
To that taunt, jesus never saida mumbling word, but the
silence seemed to have said youjust wait until Sunday morning
and I'll show you.
I'll show you that it's betterto come up out of the grave than
it is to come down from a cross.

(08:56):
And he dropped his head in thelocks of his shoulder and he
died.
I mean, he really died.
Don't pay attention to a swoonperiod.
He died war, he.
He died until the sun refusedto shine.

(09:17):
He died until the veil in thetemple was ripped in twain.
He died until Matthew said thedead got up out of the grave and
walked the streets after theresurrection.
He died.
The centurion says surely thismust have been the son of God.
I'm trying to say he died, butI don't like.

(09:41):
I don't like to.
I don't like to stay theretalking about he died.
I like to rush on and say hewas buried in Joseph's new tomb.
He was buried in a borrowedtomb.
Now, that used to bother me.

(10:05):
The one who holds the waters inthe hollow of his hand and
meets out the heavens with aspan, comprehends the dust and
weighs the mountains on a scaleand a hill in the balance, the
one who walked on the brow ofnothing and with a gesture of
his hands, words were formed, scooped out the seas with the
palm of his hand, dug deep togorges, piled up the hills and

(10:28):
propped up the mountains by hiswill.
The moon and stars leaned onhis arm, being buried in a
borrowed tomb.
Well, he wasn't going to staythere long, so a borrowed tomb
was built.
Yes, well, he wasn't going tostay there long, so it's
guaranteed.

(10:48):
Yes, he just went down in thatgrave and stayed in the grave
long enough to clean it out andmake it a pleasant place to wait
for the resurrection.
And, on schedule, he got upwith every form of power in the
orbit of his omnipotence.

(11:08):
Jesus Christ is Lord.
You know, men are thinking thatmaybe one of these days his
power is going to fade, thatmaybe one of these days his
power is going to fail.
They're thinking that one ofthese days that somebody will

(11:31):
wrestle his power from him.
Some have in mind they're goingto destroy his power.
Well, brother, if you're goingto destroy his power, what are
you going to use for power?
If you try to destroy him byfire, he'll refuse to burn.

(11:52):
If you try to destroy him bywater, he'll walk on the water.
If you try to destroy him bystrong wind, the tempest will
lick his hand and lay down athis feet.
If you try to destroy him bylaw, you'll find no fault in him
.
If you try to destroy him by aseal of an empire, he'll break

(12:16):
it.
If you try to destroy him byputting him in a grave, he'll
rise.
If you try to destroy him byrejection or ignoring him, soon
you'll hear a still small voicesaying Behold, I stand at the
door.
Not If a man will open the door, I'll come in and sup with him

(12:36):
and he with me.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
Jesus is the pearl fromparadise.
He's the gem from the gloryland.
He's truth's fairest jewel andhis time's choicest theme.
He's life's strongest cord andhis light's clearest ray.
He's purity's whitest peak.

(12:57):
He's joy's deepest tide.
His name stands as a synonymfor free healing, friendly help
and full salvation.
His blessed name is like honeyto the taste, it's like harmony
to the ear.
It's like help to the soul,it's like hope to the heart.
He's higher than the heavens ofheavens and he's holier than

(13:20):
the holy of holies.
In his birth is oursignificance, in his life is our
example, in his cross is ourredemption and in his
resurrection is our hope.
At his birth, men came from theeast and at his death, men came
from the west and the east andthe west met in him.

(13:44):
Hallelujah, the lord, godomnipotent, reigning, and at his
name, to his name, in his name, every knee is going to bow and
every tongue to confess thatJesus Christ is Lord, to the
glory of God, the Father.
Every knee, the young knee, every knee, the old knee, every

(14:07):
knee, the white knee, every knee, the black knee, every knee,
wounded knee, every knee isgoing to bow and every tongue is
going to confess that JesusChrist is Lord.
You know, many say I've got alot of living to do.
I'll accept him as Savior andI'll acknowledge him as Lord.

(14:32):
But I've got a lot of living todo.
You don't really live until youcome to him who said I am come
that you might have life andthat you might have it more
abundantly.
And then some I hear prayingLord, when I must go somewhere

(14:52):
and crawl up in a dying bed andlearn how to die.
Brother, who told you you weregoing anywhere else and who told
you you were going to have thestrength or the time to crawl up
in a dying bed and who told youyou had to learn how to die.
You learn how to live and asyou live, so you die.

(15:14):
But I'm not going to wait, because borderline salvation is
better than being lost.
But that's too dangerous torisk.
That's the reason the prophetsaid Seek ye the Lord while he
may be found, call on him whilehe's near.
Let the wicked forsake his wayand the unrighteous man his
thoughts, and he will have mercy.
To our God, for he will aboundthe part, and I'm not going to

(15:35):
wait.
I to our God, for he willabundantly pardon.
I'm not gonna wait.
I acknowledge him as my Lordnow.
The Lord is love and his loveis stronger than sin, it's
deeper than sorrow and it'smightier than death.
The Lord is my light, the Lordis my strength.
The Lord is my salvation.
The Lord is my rock.
The Lord is my salvation.
The Lord is my rock.

(15:55):
The Lord is my fortress.
The Lord is my deliverer.
The Lord is my high tower.
The Lord is my shield and mybuckler.
The Lord is my shepherd.
I shall not want.
You know, this old world is awilderness of want.
We're always wanting something.
A man will break his healthdown trying to get well, and

(16:20):
then he'll turn around, spendhis wealth trying to get his
health back.
If it isn't one thing, it'sanother.
From the rocking in the cradleto the folding in the grave,
something is always running out.
If your bank account gets low, then your blood pressure gets
high.
If you've got money, yourhealth breaks down.

(16:44):
If you've got a job, youreyesight gets dim.
If you've got food on yourtable, your faith gets weak.
If it's not your enemiesbothering you, it's your
so-called friends.
If it's not your kinfolkmooching off of you, it's your
church folk.
And while you're building upover here, is falling apart over
there.
But the lord is my shepherd.
I shall not want.
A little girl was asked torecite this verse and she said

(17:05):
the lord is my shepherd andthat's all I want.
They said she wrong.
I said she's right.
The lord is my shepherd andthat's all I.
I shall not want for rest, forhe maketh me to lie down in
green pastures.
I shall not want forrefreshment, for he leadeth me

(17:26):
beside the still waters.
I shall not want forforgiveness, for he restoreth my
soul.
I shall not want for guidance, for he leadeth me in paths of
righteousness.
For his name's sake, I shallnot want for guidance, for he
leadeth me in paths ofrighteousness.
For his name's sake, I shallnot want for companionship, for
yea, though I walk through thevalley of the shadow of death,
I'll fear no evil, for thou artwith me.

(17:47):
I shall not want for comfortfor thy rod and thy staff.
They comfort me.
I shall not want for sustenanceor provision, for thou
preparest a table before me inthe presence of mine enemies.
I shall not want for joy, forthou notice my head with oil my
cup runneth over.
I shall not want for anything inthis life, for goodness and

(18:11):
mercy shall follow me all thedays of my life.
And I shall not want foranything in the life to come,
for I'll dwell in the house ofthe Lord forever.
I didn't say I'll camp or tentor tabernacle, but I'll dwell in
the house of the Lord forever.
I'll dwell in a land wherewe'll never grow old.

(18:32):
I'll dwell out there, where thesilence of eternity is
interpreted by love.
I'll dwell in the sun-kissedregions of an unclouded day.
Dwell in a city that hasfoundation, whose building maker
is God.
Dwell in the house of the Lordfor ever.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
