(00:06):
Hello and welcome to Big Gay Energy.
I'm Caitlin. And I'm Fiora.
Come along with us while we diveinto the fun and nuances of
queer media. Representation matters, and
we're. Here to talk about it.
Cheers, queers. What's on the big gauge end of
today, Theora? Today we're back for another
(00:26):
episode of Why Do We Love This Show?
And today we're going to be talking about Yellow Jackets all
the seasons. Instead of diving into every
single scene like we do on some episodes, today is just going to
be an overview episode, mostly focused on all the queer stuff
that happens in yellow jackets, because there's a lot of it.
There's so much and it just I started to see the three of
(00:50):
like, did this show just get queerer?
Like it just keeps going. And I'm so proud of them for
that. Like they did.
They're not that type of show tobe like, oh, we put it in there.
You're welcome. Now let's continue though.
They're like, oh, you thought itwas queer.
Let's throw in some more for ya.Here you go.
Exactly. Also joining us today is our
(01:12):
friend from Let's Hang Out, Lee Holmes.
Thanks for joining. Welcome, Lee.
How long you butchered that? That's OK.
I just have so many names. You gotta get all of them.
There's there's lots of names. But hi.
Oh my gosh, I'm so excited. And I can't wait to talk about
all the gayest things on Yellow Jackets.
(01:35):
Yeah, OK. Wait, before we begin really
quickly, when did you first watch Yellow Jackets?
So I started watching Yellow Jackets the day it came out,
just about we Yellow Jackets launched kind of on the heels of
when we had put out our first musical, which is The Flame, and
it stars Jasmine Savoy Brown. And so I was like, Jasmine's in
(01:57):
a show. I hear it's going to have like
some gay stuff going on. It's going to have Melanie
Linski's in it like I'm in, right.
So, so I like from the get go, Iwas ready.
I was like, I have a subscription to Showtime for
this, Let's do it. And my wife was less old because
she was like, it looks spooky. And I was like, that's OK.
(02:21):
And so she watched Season 1 and stopped.
And I have remained committed tothe whole thing.
It's a lot. When you're not prepared.
She's also not a, she's not a horror, spooky, scary person at
all. Like, yeah, not her thing.
And weirdly, like the cannibalism didn't override all
of that for her. So you know, she couldn't run.
(02:47):
All right, so you're ready to get into it.
I'm so ready. All right.
Well, I think. We should start with the gayest
plot line of all that goes through the entire show.
It was evident to me in the first episode, and that's Shawna
and Jackie. Can we start with them?
Because what the hell? Because I found the show and I
was like, oh, queer stuff happens.
(03:08):
That's all I knew. And I was like, based on a true
story, like soccer team gets lost in the woods.
So like my wife, who's an outdoor disaster enthusiast, was
like, yeah, that sounds great. And then I'm watching it and I'm
like, oh, so it's Shawn and Jackie.
They're the couple. They're the couple.
And then it like never quite panned out.
I was like, why would you? Why would you write it like this
if you didn't want us to ship them?
(03:29):
I think so. Fiora told me about this show
and that's usually a lot what happens on this podcast and I
binge watched it and then it becomes the point where like I
watched more than her at one point, but I'm pretty sure I
spent the first season asking Theora.
Oh, so it's these characters andthen I'm just it.
(03:50):
Theora never doubts gets a text from me be like, they're all
queer. They're just all queer.
Just. Accept it.
So The thing is, we as someone with a podcast who we're like we
have a dedicated segment on exploring the extremely,
(04:12):
extremely gay non canonical things in media representation.
A a relationship like Shawna Jackie is just it's like getting
a present on Christmas morning. You know, there's just a nice
bow on top. There's a little no like Santa
came and you're just like, Oh yeah.
(04:36):
Every every trope that you couldwant to have in a closeted teen
repressed love story. It's there, It's there.
It's taking. They're obsessed with each
other. She's fucking her boyfriend
like. I have trouble with subtext and
(04:57):
even I got it from the storyline.
It's so much. It's so much, so much.
And then Jackie haunts Shawna quote forever, like it's the X
you never get over right? Like is that not what that it's?
It's really, it's really something and I just feel like
(05:17):
it, it brings me joy. It brings me joy to have that
like in a show that has legitimate queer Rep, which I'm
sure we will talk about as well.Absolutely.
It still brings me joy to be like, yes, this is actually a
legitimate form of representation in the media for
us. We feel seen with this, you
(05:40):
know. It's so sad, but like, we're
just so used to it. But again, go to Thailand.
That will never, well, I mean, that will happen, but they will
be queer. It's just they have to be
slapped in the face multiple times that what they're doing is
gay. Yeah, I I just think I feel like
Shawna and Jackie are great because The thing is all the
(06:02):
shit in the show aside like, OK,sure, Lottie's crazy creepy,
spooky wind in the trees. There's like, you know, a a
mysterious blind, no eyed man. Like, all of that aside, I think
one could give a convincing Ted talk of the fact that the
(06:23):
forbidden, unspoken, you know, like doomed love story of Shawna
and Jackie is actually legitimately responsible for 90%
of what happens to these girls, right?
They go off the deep end becauseJackie dies and Shawna loses her
fucking mind. They become cannibals because
Shawna literally wants to consume Jackie's entire body
(06:43):
into herself. Like, there's so much stuff that
is just like everything goes offthe rails.
And I think all of it kind of traces back to these two wanting
to fuck so badly in high school.Absolutely and truly.
It's a it's a tragic love story.No absolutely that's how you get
Cali like that. Like that's how you get Shawna
marrying Jackie's ex-boyfriend because that's all she has left.
(07:04):
Like literally that is the story.
How much went wrong in the firstseason simply because Jeff's
store wasn't doing very well andhe starts blackmailing them and
then everything goes off the rails again and it's all because
she couldn't not marry the only other lips that had ever kissed
Jackie's. That's all I'm saying.
And that's what. Yep 100% and that's yellow
(07:24):
jackets if you've never seen it before.
Like that's the whole show. That is and scene.
That's, yes, that's Yellow Jackets.
It's a recap. Oh my gosh, but.
Dear. I just, there was a moment in
the beginning of Season 2, the first episode, where they're
(07:45):
just panning to everyone sleeping and it's when Jackie is
outside in the cold, but Shawna still make sure to have that
empty, like her arms literally across, like Jackie's in her
arms. Sleep, Yeah.
Yeah, you mean their go to sleeping position?
Sure. Yeah, yeah.
Sure, sure. Yeah.
(08:05):
That's totally normal. That season, the season 1
ending, season 2 open, those were those were rough.
Those were homo traumatic. Yeah, I mean, I will say,
listen, like, as much as I'm going to say this is queer Rep,
that also means it's a legitimate barrier gaze.
And you know, those still, they still hurt.
(08:27):
They still hurt us deep in our little gay hearts.
It hurt. It hurt watching Jackie die.
That's what fanfic is for. That is true.
OK. Thank goodness for fan fiction
just in general, because you help us.
It's therapy. I feel like we should be paying
(08:47):
for fan fiction at this point because it's amazing.
Truly, they're Yeah. Listen, thick writers really
doing the most out here. Like without you, we would never
get to see Shawn atop Jackie. And truly, the world would be a
worse place for it. So.
Right. I do have the same two of them
annoy the shit out of me, but I'm all here for the the.
(09:10):
Story it's because it's again, it's because they want to fuck
each other and they have that's why they're annoying it's just.
Really. They.
Listen, the whole all of yellow jackets could've been solved if
they just did their thing. Calm the fuck down and then
we're saying happy people and then we wouldn't be where we
are. Like, the least point, like the
whole fucking crux of the show is that these two are butting
(09:32):
heads constantly because there'sjust something unresolved
between them, you know? And it will never be resolved.
Right. The thing and that's why I think
it's so funny because when you watch like Melanie Linsky
playing adult Shawna is always so fascinating to me because
(09:53):
especially right now, I mean in Season 3, like teen Shawna is
like a fucking psychopath. Oh my God.
She's the craziest 1. She's the craziest one, right?
And so it's like the the somehowstark difference between those
two has always been, I think, a really interesting part of the
(10:13):
show to me because I don't thinkMelanie, listen, you're going to
tell me that like queer icon, lover of the gay is Melanie
Linsky does not know. Like she knows she knows what
teen Shawna's storyline is, you know, And so it's like, but I
feel like it's such a it's in there, but she really only lets
(10:34):
it out for like very specific moments when it's needed, you
know, and I'm like, it's so good.
It must be so fun to just like always have that in there.
And you just save it for like the one moment where you're like
chopping a fucking rabbit for dinner, you know, and then
you're just like, and now I'm fucking crazy, bitch.
And you're like, no, yes, yes, Melanie let it out.
(10:59):
She's so good. I can't wait.
Because it has to come at some point, right?
Like there has to be. We're gonna get to see Melanie
Linski be that Shawna at some point.
And I'm like, oh, it's gonna be so.
It's gonna be good. Because you're getting more and
more like little hints of it, you know?
Yeah, Shawna's not OK Regardlessof what time it is, Shawna's
never OK. Like, we were just talking about
(11:20):
this the other day. I was like, Shawna was off the
rails before the show started. Like, yeah, because she was
like, cheating on Jackie with her boyfriend and like, so and
pregnant and like, she was already off the rails.
Then the plane crash happens, she gets worse, and then they
leave and she's still not OK. Like she was never OK.
Shawna was last OK circa 1996 sometime.
(11:40):
It's not being bored of like, you know, days since Shawna was
OK. It's just an yeah.
Serious days since. Days that counter started when
she laid eyes on Jackie. Got zero?
It's always 0. Man, those two are something.
(12:05):
They are something. Can we we also can we talk about
Season 3, Shawna? Yeah, yeah.
So so that so as of recording this then we are only 7 episodes
into season 3. But can I tell you when that
kiss with Melissa happened the way I almost out loud on my
train yelled certified girl kisser.
(12:25):
She gonna ship in like that moment.
Incredible. OK.
Cannon Cannon, we're reps for sure.
I can't. Believe we got that first of
all, but I was re watching this show for this episode and I was
(12:49):
looking at this girl in the background.
I'm like girl with the backwardsbaseball cap.
There's got to be something to you.
And I was going to bring that up.
And then of course, we get to Season 3.
I'm like, well, damn it, OK, We got less characters in the not
the in the characters that don'tknow their queer section.
(13:09):
I'm like, all the characters in that section are now in the
queer section. I'll take it.
I'll take it. For it, yeah.
I was like, I knew something wasup with that girl.
There was there was a lot of backwards baseball hat and open
short sleeve button down going on.
Yeah, we see you, Melissa. We see.
You not gonna like, I didn't seeMelissa because I forgot who she
(13:29):
was. And so I was watching Season 3
and I'm like, did they cast new people?
Like which is this person? In there.
I forgot about her. They do that every once in a
while where they'll actually show the other people who are
there and you're like, oh shit. There's more than two-story.
Yeah, they've been there. Like Melissa's been there.
Akilah's been there. Like I mean it.
(13:50):
Makes sense. The whole soccer.
Team with her little dead mouse.I mean like they've been around,
but it does feel it does feel incredibly true though,
especially for like you know like late 90s kind of era.
It feels incredibly realistic tohave so much of this team be gay
and none of out. Yeah.
Like this. This should be the kind of
(14:10):
revelation that you got at, like, their 10th high school
reunion, right? Like, where half the team shows
back up with, like, a fucking girlfriend on their arm like
that. Yeah, that feels incredibly
realistic to have them suddenly be like, well, listen, if I'm
not going to fuck a girl now in the woods, when is it going to
be? Maybe never.
Right, like also like yes, agreed the time period think
about it. So like it's the the 90s is that
(14:31):
when this is happening? OK, what was also happening
happening in the 90's? the US women's national team was
becoming popular that birth a whole bunch of babies like for
decades. So like I'm not saying it's
related, but it happened around the same time I am saying that.
Anything else about Shawna rightnow?
Well, OK, so the Shawna and Melissa thing is like they're
(14:53):
both not OK. And I get my take on them is
like, I'm glad that it's cannon. So we got Cannon clear Shawna
because like, come on now, Shawna, as we've stated, like
it's been there the whole time. But it feels like to me that
it's just like Shawna this season is on a quest for power
(15:13):
because like, I think she has like postpartum depression
that's undiagnosed and untreated.
And so she's definitely not OK. And then like there's this whole
like power struggle happening between her and Natalie.
And so like Melissa being in hercorner almost unconditionally
weirdly out of nowhere, I think is like the attraction cuz she's
like, yes, power, yes, do what Iwant.
(15:34):
Like I think that it's that morethan anything else.
Like I don't think it's like I'mactually attracted to you as a
person. It's more like.
I like this. Power I'm getting.
For you listen, let me play devil's advocate.
I think Melissa has wanted to hop on that for a long.
Time. Sure, sure.
A long time and I think Melissa like why am I the wrong fucking
(15:55):
tiny blonde on this side? Like what is going on?
Jackie, it's fine. Right, And like, and now I feel
like she's tried to give it likean appropriate amount of time to
like, you know, more and digest all the important stuff.
And I think I think she's now like, I'm going to make my
fucking move because like the odds that we all make it through
(16:15):
another winter low slim to none, you know, So I listen, respect,
respect to Melissa is all I haveto say.
Also, I just want to say I love that they not only gave us a
more queer Rep, but I was just at there's a, there's a little
(16:37):
convention that happens in Long Beach every year that's called
TGIFM slash where it's just like, do you want to come?
And like no doubt about queer media Rep.
And I was just there. And one of the things that we
were talking about is we were thinking of like designing a
shirt where it was like sometimes love is just a dike
and a knife. Because because of like the
parallels that you get with likethe Agatha all along, like
(16:59):
Agatha with Rio up against the wall with a knife and then like
killing Eve, like up against thewall with a knife.
And I feel like we we stand thatwe now have another like I'm
going to push you up to like against, in this case, a tree
with a knife and all you want todo is make out with me
afterwards because valid, because valid.
(17:19):
Melissa, you're so rude for that.
But does does Shawna actually like Melissa or is she that?
Was where I was coming from withShawna's point, right, Melissa?
Melissa made the first move. So like, I agree with you, she's
into it. I think Shawna's power tripping,
but that's just me. Yeah.
(17:41):
Oh yeah, but. Yeah, no, it definitely makes
sense. Shawna would eat up having
another like, yeah, I need another, like, tiny blonde
soccer player to tell me that, like, I'm hot and amazing,
right? Powerful.
And I no one's appreciated me enough.
Like she. Yes, Come on.
Validation. She needs validation.
(18:01):
That's what it is. Therapy.
But that's another story. Shawna's gonna have a praise
king, is what we're saying. Okay, yes. 100%.
But also because she basically buries down the queer tendencies
in her Yes after Melissa like wedon't see any queer tendencies
(18:27):
in adult Shauna, so like she. Just, well, I mean, she does
hallucinate her dead girlfriend.Yeah, that's what I mean.
I mean that. Yes, yes, that that too.
But I'm. Jackie all the time.
Other than that, yeah, 20 years later she does still do that,
you know, with striking frequency.
But I mean, sure. Otherwise nothing, yeah.
Yeah, and it's it's very convenient that she can fully
(18:47):
conjure what she looks like. Yeah, in vivid detail.
Yeah. Detail, Yes, Yeah, Yeah, there's
that. I am honestly shocked that in
three seasons we have not yet gotten one of the scenes of her
hooking up with Jeff, with Jackie watching.
Like just. It's got to be coming.
Listen, writers, Yellow Jackets writers, you do with that which
(19:09):
you will, OK? Oh, you mean like in the present
and like ghost? Oh, in the present.
Oh. Shit, yeah, because in the past
Jackie didn't. Hurdle about any of it.
I want Shawna just fully lockingeyes, right?
Make it messy is all I'm saying.Messier.
(19:34):
I can see that happen, that we, that we need the confrontation.
Yeah. Like Shawna just like keeps
talking about Jackie for some reason.
And Jeff's like, are you actually just in love with
Jackie this whole time? There was no book club.
Donna would never answer that question.
(19:54):
That would be. The Jeff revelation of a
lifetime. He has he.
There's no way he doesn't know. Come on.
I know. And I'm even telling you that I
legitimately love Jeff in this show.
I think he's great. He knows, man.
How could you not? Yeah, I mean, he knows
everything. Like he he's read the journals
and then didn't even tell her that he write like he's like, I
(20:16):
just want to know things. Yeah, I don't have to use the, I
mean, unless I'm blackmailing toget money, whatever.
But you know that that's the only thing that was the
exception. He learned his lesson from that.
One and if you're trying to convince me that like a solid
you know 5 to 10 pages at the beginning of those journals was
not Shawna just practicing writing Shawna Taylor in various
forms and calligraphies like lies right incorrect or she.
(20:41):
Does like the OR she does the thing that like teenagers who
don't know they're in love with their best friend do or she's
like God, her stupid perfect hair and like all of this kind
of stuff, just like a nasty, like I hate her, but it's like
really sexual and stuff you're like, what the hell is this?
I bet Jeff doesn't even make cumListen die, right?
(21:03):
I think I'm reading that like. With the fuck shot.
He's like, I'm gonna get a drink.
Put this down, honestly. Anyway, All right, Should we
move on to the other Canon queers?
Cannon Games. Yeah, so we're gonna interrupt
(21:26):
this episode to bring you a few brief shout outs over from our
Chaos Crew members on Patreon. Let's see if I can get my webcam
to work. Yay.
Got this VR that was so quick. That was really fast.
That was, too. Fast.
I know. Sorry, Phaedra.
OK, so our Chaos crew members onthe Big Gay rider die tier and
above are Dana W, Kate V, AngelaAmix, Monzone under score Multi,
(21:51):
Natalia, Danny, Cassie M, Jill L, Regina B, and Monet F.
And our featured Big Gay supporter members are Jess J,
Jada G, and Christina A Thank you all so much for your
support. And as always, we are so
grateful for everyone who supports us, whether it's on
Patreon or it's just by watching, listening to the
(22:13):
podcast, joining our Discord. Any way you can support 'cause
we know not everybody's able to join Patreon, and that's fine.
You can also support us a huge amount just by commenting on
this video, subscribing to the podcast, sharing this episode
with as many people as possible so we can spread the joy of
queer content. Like, who else needs to
(22:35):
understand that Shawna and Jackie were definitely gay for
each other? Yeah, everyone.
So go do that. Go to spread that message.
Spread the gay agenda. That's what we're here for.
That's right. So, Speaking of gays, should we
talk about the Canon gaze of theother Canon?
Let's do that. Yes.
(22:55):
Do you want to do Coach because his his story was heartbreaking
with Coach. So, Coach.
Yeah, but I like the way they told his story though, because
again, like we are jumped. This is a this is a show that's
telling basically two stories attwo different time points.
(23:15):
And queer rights were very different in the different time
periods. So I do appreciate that we had
like, we just talked about some of the kids and their queerness.
But then like you had the adult that was basically living
through that time period and howlike his whole relationship was
had to be closeted because he's like, I could lose my job, like
all the stuff. And like that reality that seems
(23:38):
so distant perhaps to people, some people now, like I
appreciate they put that in there because like that was that
was like not that long ago wherelike he really had this fear of,
you know, being outed because itcould cost him everything.
So I appreciate that they like kind of sprinkled that in there
with like the queer reality of the time and like the queer joy.
And it does balance itself out nicely in the story through the
(24:00):
time periods. So I did like that.
So Ben, he, he doesn't, he's notlike closeted because like he's
fully open. Like, he'll tell you that he's
gay mostly because you know he'strying to get misty off his back
because. Also, they're, they're in the
(24:21):
woods right now and it's like we're not yeah, no, like that
happened. No, not looking up here.
Really. This is not the time to be
closeted. Just like I've seen Shawna and
Jack. Clearly, you're fine with us.
But even later he tells has conversation in the first season
and he's still having to tell people so they they're not even
talking to each other. I do feel bad for Ben because
(24:41):
like he's just, he just kind of leaves your mind.
But he deserves better in that aspect.
But he he deserves better than Paul too, because like Paul was
like stay with me, stay with me,pick me, choose me, love me.
So I just, I, I wish he got the happy ending that he deserved.
(25:05):
Yeah, he he really didn't, huh? No, no, not, no, no.
Be real. Poor coach, man.
Yeah, if things were different, if he did not go on that plane
and that's what he tried to livein in Season 2.
If he didn't go on that plane and have to be with these crazy
(25:27):
bitches, yeah, then maybe his life would be completely
different. I I also feel like there's an
interesting dichotomy on the like, like gay guy to like teen
dyke continuum of the in the woods troupe in this show
because it's like, let's be real, these girls are fucking
(25:48):
batshit, right? Yes.
These bitches crazy in these woods and like there is
something kind of funny about watching like their one soul
remaining like authority figure, you know, who kind of has like
an adult presence of mind to be like we are not actually
(26:10):
suddenly just like savages living upon the earth, Like we
could still maintain some sense of like humanity and whatever.
And they're like fuck that coach.
Nope. I just think it's interesting.
Like it's an interesting take onon watching how they how they
(26:32):
use those different positions inthe show, you know, to kind of
to kind of put Ben in these situations.
But I agree, I mean, I think or Ben, man, poor Ben, who I wish
we'd gotten a little bit more of, like what is going on in his
mind. Like once you get the episode
with the sort of flashback, likea hallucination stuff going on,
(26:52):
you never really get to see themagain.
And I wish we'd gotten to see more of them because I don't
know. I feel like he would have an
interesting story as well, you know, that we sort of only saw,
like in passing. You kind of catch glimpses of
it. Yeah, I feel like if this whole
wilderness thing wasn't going on, he'd be like a really good
(27:14):
queer mentor, like, just like support group leader.
Yeah, 'cause you know, he knew, right?
I mean, like he, he obviously comes out and says he's like, I
mean, I have caught you too. Yeah, like I have caught Van and
Thai before. Like, he's not blind to the
whole Shaun of Jackie situation.I'm sure he knows about more of
(27:37):
them. Like, yeah, he could have.
He could have been a really, like, good, good gay elder for
them. And instead they killed him and
ate him, you know, like you do so.
Yeah, as one does when you're forming your new society.
Yeah, so. He never wavered in what he
believed either, because he never, he never was a cannibal.
(28:00):
He never ate anybody. No.
And he just, he immediately got his leg chopped off.
Yeah. He, he just.
Always got the short end. No, yeah, he had a real shit
time in those woods. Like, yeah, he's not good.
He was really not having the the, you know, good gay fun that
that the rest of the girls were. So, Shawna, I want you to take a
(28:24):
good look at Ben because that's someone who went through shit
and did not turn that shit insane.
Well, I mean. Again, she was crazy before we
got to the woods. That's that's the difference.
He was a more stable. He would be.
She was not. Then you put her in the woods.
It made it worse. You know, which might be a good
segue into tie A. Yeah, who?
(28:45):
Also not OK. No I did the hold on the dude
with no eyes. Everything else like the whole
show is just insane but like that's what scares the shit out
of me. Yeah, if I.
Elatable is it that it's like a commercial from your childhood
that was unnecessarily creepy? Haunts you forever like.
Yeah, I there I will say there are two moments in Season 3 so
(29:11):
far that I think are just reallybrilliant writing.
Because The thing is, is like, you know, you get it, Like
season 1 is sort of like settingup the show for you.
And then season 2 they're like, you thought you were here for
cannibalism. You're fucking here for
cannibalism, right. And so you're like, OK, I get
it. Like I get what I'm into now.
(29:32):
Like I get what the show is. It's like we're going to be
watching like fucking crazy teencannibals.
We're going to be watching fucking like crazy adult
cannibals now, like just straight up murdering people in
like day-to-day life as though that's normal because they're
all fucked in the head, right? And so you kind of like start
buying into this whole thing of the show where you're like, wow,
is it spooky? Is it not?
(29:54):
Is there like a mysterious wilderness force that's making
these girls kill and eat each other?
And is it coming back for them now in the modern day?
And did it kill Travis, right? So like you kind of get sucked
into the like, OK, now I'm in the show like the Yellow Jackets
world, right? And so I think the two best
writing moments they had in the entire of Season 3 so far for me
(30:14):
are one, making the creepy eyeless man be in a legitimate
ice cream commercial is so fucking funny.
Yes, so funny to me to do that. And the other one is the fucking
herpetology squad moment becauseI'm like, it is so good because
you forget, right? Like you're watching these girls
(30:36):
dancing around that fucking fire, having eaten Coach Scott
and with his head right there. And they're all chanting and
dancing and, and prancing aroundand you're like, yeah, I'm in it
with you. Yeah, woo, yeah, we're dancing.
Yeah, the fire. Woo Hoo, this is great.
And then this, this random ass man walks up and it's just like,
what the fuck? And you're like, oh, Oh, no.
(31:00):
As soon as I saw that by my jaw dropped I was like what the hell
happening? So I was like I need the next
one. Wow, too right?
Like you as the viewer in that moment, you are like, wait,
what? Wait, what show am I watching?
If there's no people around, then actually maybe we're all a
little fucked inside. I don't know.
(31:21):
And it's so good. It's so those are like, I think
those are the two best because it's just it's like A twist that
nothing could like of all the things that you start getting
used to in this show where they're like, oh, you're going
to kill another person. Great.
Lottie died. I guess that's what's happening,
right? You're just like nothing shocks
me anymore except for actual like, mundanity.
(31:42):
Yeah, that's insane. Suddenly the wildest thing that
has ever happened is just Robbiefrom new girls showing up in the
mix and you're like, what? No.
Season 3, I was like, because you do kind of get used to like
the, it's kind of like a formulafor them.
Like they go through all this and then they eat someone.
(32:04):
Someone loses their shit, they eat someone.
Then season 3 you're like wait aminute, we're not eating people.
And then until we eat somebody. But then second they eat
somebody. Just a random normal ass person
from like just, yeah, just the the regular world of society
shows up and you're like, oh bug.
(32:26):
Oh, bug. But I remember watching that
scene, I'm like, oh, look, they're being happy.
They can finally be happy. They're they're saying that.
I'm also realizing, wait a minute, is that what the
background vocals are through this whole thing?
Yeah, is the whole. Show.
Is incredible. Is incredible.
And like they're mimicking the frog.
So like I thought, well, we didn't hear the we didn't see
(32:48):
the frog thing yet at that point.
So it I thought it was their voices, like them in the
background, because like they were mimicking the same thing,
Yeah. No, it's, it's fucking, it's
fucking wild. It's wild.
The other thing that's wild, just to I'll bring us back just
Taisa real quick. How long has Taisa not been
(33:09):
Taisa in season 3 and what's happening?
And like, that girl's fucked. That that girl, she she is also
not, she's a friend. No one's doing well.
I feel like Ty has DID and is a system but I mean we only know
(33:31):
like what's DID. Mean.
Oh, sorry, Dissociative identitydisorder.
Oh yes, and she for sure. Does.
Yeah. So she can.
She'll have a new oh, I don't know what the right word is.
Personality, I guess come through.
It's not really personal, but just like a new, oh, an altar,
(33:52):
an altar step forward and she won't be conscious of it and she
won't even remember that it happened.
So that's why I think that's what she.
Like some of them seem to only vaguely remember that she has a
wife and child, you know, like, it's, it's a lot to get.
Oh. Yeah, no, first of all, I I was
tracking the Yorkie because I was so scared.
(34:12):
The Yorkie ended up like the first dog that she had, and I
was like, where's the Yorkie andall of this?
Why is she able to be with Van right now?
I'm so scared for this Yorkie. Eat.
That dog, Caitlin, I'm so sorry,so sorry to tell you this, but
like they're eating that dog at some point.
No, I was like, we'll get my Yorkie.
(34:38):
You get that whole dog thing. No, I can't.
Ty is not OK, but I do think I'mI just that was another twist
that I did not see coming because like Ty's always kind of
fucked up, right? And and the twist of having
somehow the realization that like she has not been Taisa for
a very long time. And I don't know since when I'm
like now I kind of want to go back and be like, where?
(35:00):
Like was it in the car accident? Was it before then?
Like how long? How long since when, since when?
I need to know. Inquiring minds need to know.
That's what I like about it because again I've been saying
this as we started watching the shows.
I feel like this is all everything you can explain by
just mental health or natural phenomena.
(35:22):
Cuz we were watching 1 episode where they first go in The Cave
in season 3 and they had the candle and the candle starts
flickering and my wife who hikesall the time, she's like, oh,
they're near natural gas. That's why the flames doing
that. Yeah.
And then they go in this hallucinogenic episode and I'm
like, oh, OK, so if they're withgas, they're not oxygenating
their brains. So they're going to hallucinate.
So then they have this dream andthey're like, it's the
(35:43):
wilderness. And I'm like, no, you're, you're
putting people into the wilderness who are like, quote,
civilize and have no idea like what wilderness even is or
nature is anymore. And so they can't explain it.
And so they're like they, they go to superstition.
Like this is how religions form. This is how cults form.
Like that's what's happening. So when you see them all happy
in the woods after their sacrifice, it's like they're
(36:06):
appeasing their God or whatever. It's like, this is literally how
religions form and it's going toshow you like once you remove
kind of like knowledge from people, they have to explain
things somehow. And so superstition.
And then you have Lottie, who's absolutely seeing things because
of her mental health stuff and is convincing because she's
actually seeing them. So people are like, I guess
she's right. And like, you can kind of see
(36:27):
how it snowballs. So yeah, you're right.
When you have somebody who's, like, comes into this and is
like, what are you guys doing? Like, yeah, it's going to be
different because like, they were explaining the world
through their means. And then like Taisha, who like,
I think started understanding what was going on with her
actually probably for a very long time in the woods.
(36:48):
And that's terrifying to be like, wow, I'm doing things and
I don't even realize like how terrifying is that?
And then to have Van who's like trying to, who's a kid trying to
support her through this, like that's a lot.
Like their relationship has beena lot for quite some time.
And then when they jump into adulthood, it's kind of still
that dynamic. Like Van is the grounding force
(37:09):
and Taisha's like off the rails because like she still hasn't
gotten the help she needs. Van wins the most committed
girlfriend award ever because inseason 2 I I wrote it down, but
I don't remember exactly what I said.
But Taisa bites Van, draws blood, and then Van takes that
(37:37):
blood and writes I love you. Yeah.
On her arm. I'm like, girl, you're strong.
You're also a teenager. Right.
Maybe you're too strong. The things you do for that first
girlfriend. You know, seriously when you're
the only gays in a small New Jersey town.
(37:59):
You do what you got to do to hold on to them.
Yeah, that is. Yeah, and the minute and the
minute adult Van sees adult Tais, she's like, well, shit, I
regret all of it. Yeah, yeah, it's, I mean.
It's coming back. I I do think I think that it is
(38:19):
like they're vanities are so interesting because they're such
a good like 9 late 90s teen lesbian relationship couple.
You know in that way that you'relike, you're so cute together.
I love you. Also you're like fucking
terrible feature they're and toxic and like.
(38:40):
Yes. You're never gonna let go.
And like you crazy bitches like it, it all is so true.
It's all so true. It's all true.
You're like. I don't need you to be better
for like I get listen, OK, don'ttie van shippers.
Don't come for me. Like I get the people who are
(39:00):
like they're made for each other.
I'm like, no, they're fucking not, but I still love them.
Like, that's not the point, That's not the point.
They shouldn't be made for each other.
They should be just the two gayswho happened to find each other
in their one high school and arethen like, this is true love.
That's how it worked. That's what it was then, okay.
(39:21):
And then they're trauma bonded. And then they trauma bonded and
it is a problem. And then Taisa is like, well,
you already know I'm fucked up in a way that my actual legal
wife does not correct. My son might, but you know, like
she's. Like I definitely knows.
Yeah, you don't want to have to explain to someone else that
(39:43):
hasn't seen you eat dirt that like sometimes that's the thing
you do, right. Like that's no one wants to have
to do that in their relationship.
And so you just like migrate back to the person who already
knows all your deepest darkest shit because they've eaten human
flush with you. Like that's a natural thing.
I mean, that is what ties the adults that are still living
(40:05):
together. It's kind of like, you
understand me on a level that literally nobody else can
because that that is the trauma bonding of it all.
And like, even if they hate eachother, like everybody hates
Misty, right? They're still, they still are in
each other's orbits all the time.
Even though they like don't act. They're they're a toxic friend
group. But like, here we are, you know?
Well, and I think it also gets into what you were saying theor
(40:26):
of like the the, you know, kind of like cult like aspect of it
is like, yeah, everything there still is not anything in this
show as of yet that is like incontrovertibly like
mysterious, like, you know, mystical, magical, spooky, like
shithap. Everything can have an
(40:48):
explanation. And what I think is great is
like you're exploring what it looks like when a group of
people needs to have a thing to blame, right?
You can't just have been a bunchof crazy teenagers who, like,
went nuts and ate each other in the woods to stay alive.
Like you have to be able to blame something, which is why
(41:12):
honestly, I actually think Mistyis a very interesting character
cuz I think Misty is one of the few who actually knows what,
like just knows and doesn't really buy into all the spooky
shit of it that yes, cuz Misty'slike just straight up pushing
people off the cliffs. Like she ain't fighting around,
right? Yeah, she's not like she's real
made me different. She's like no one knows where
Crystal even is. Misty, she's so dense.
(41:37):
She did not push Crystal becauseI made sure to watch for that
because I thought she pushed heroff too.
No, she just got her too close and Crystal fell.
I mean, yeah, she didn't. Push her physically she like led
the horse water though you know. But she didn't push her.
OK, OK. But like, I'm, I'm with you that
(41:59):
like Misty is really real and the other person who's also
really real is Lottie, because Lottie was like, I am a cultist
and she's not shy about that either.
So like, I respect you for living your truth, which is
yeah, I'm just gonna form a cultin the real world cuz I'm real
good at it. And it's like, yeah, girl, you
do you. Like that's fine.
Yeah, but I, but I truly believethey are at like opposite ends
(42:19):
of the spectrum in terms of yes, agreed.
How much they, they truly believe that there's
supernatural going on. I don't think Misty thinks
there's anything supernatural going on.
And when she talks about it, shedoesn't even sound like she does
as an adult, right. And I wonder if that like is
another reason that they sort oflike it is difficult for
everyone else to be around Mistyas an adult.
(42:39):
Cause like this is fucking straight up crazy.
And she's like, yeah, I like just straight up kill people.
Like that's what I do. I like fucking torture old
people day in and day out. And then I like murder.
And it's like, and it's not thisis the wilderness.
That's just me. That's just me.
That's just me. And I feel like everyone else
needs there to be a reason. Like I think that is what makes
(43:02):
us so different from Misty. Yeah, 100% right.
But. And so then you have Thai and
I'm like, Thai is so fucking crazy because Thai there's like
legitimately something happening.
But again, is it super natural or does Ty just have like deep
deep mental issues that are undiagnosed, untreated, undealt
with and are causing her to likekill her son's dog and terrify
(43:27):
her child? No, seriously.
And like Taisha is one of those people like and you're like, you
can sit there and be like, well, how could her mental health
disorder be so undiagnosed? And it's like she's such a high
functioning person. How would you ever know?
Where are your signs? Like you would never know.
Like she's a successful lawyer and like all this stuff, you
would never know looking at her that she has this because she's
so high functioning. Yeah, whereas like lot of your
(43:50):
history. The history is that her altars,
her altar comes out at night. So very good at hiding, yeah?
But now I am really curious because it's been what I was
just thinking about is like, I feel like season 1, there was
all this stuff going on with thewolves, right?
(44:11):
Like there was all this stuff with the wolves and the wolves
eating fans face and Tais is, you know, like hallucinating
wolves all over the place. When's the last time we saw a
wolf? We saw a coyote in season 3 that
was like the closest but but yeah, you're right and.
Even that it was like a legitimate real coyote, not like
a not like a wolf hallucination at a fucking political gala like
(44:36):
night. You know.
So I really want to go back and re watch now because that just
happened right That she like bursts awake in the middle of
the night being like, man, help me.
And then immediately like you. Oh, what are you doing up?
And you're like, oh, fuck, die. Oh no, where are you and how
long have you been gone? Oh no, like it.
(44:58):
My just stomach dropped. I was like oh oh this is bad,
this is bad bad because this Taisa will fucking straight up
kill a bitch to say a van like oh.
Yes. She don't play, she doesn't
care. She's not afraid, She doesn't
care about the consequences. Like it's crazy.
(45:20):
And the fact that Sammy immediately knows too.
I'm like, can you please just like duct tape this child to
Taisa as like a human meter of like Taisa's crazy level?
Oh shit. Oh my God.
OK. I just, you just helped me put
that together. Oh yeah, cuz he asks for her and
then she shows up and he's like get the he's.
(45:40):
Like get away from me, yeah. Dog up and he's like get the
fuck away he makes. A lot of sense though cuz she's
been very looking at her behavior throughout season 3.
I mean, that's why she's so hyper fixated on like, but we
have to balance things out with the murders and like she's very
into the cult like behavior and vans watching her being like,
aren't you taking this too far? Like she says it multiple times
(46:02):
throughout the show, or she's like, are you taking this too
far? Too far?
So like makes sense that that's been her alter ego the whole
time. I'm like, damn.
What was the ultimate trigger, though?
Is is the is a really good question that made the that
switch more permanent. I need to know how you have me.
Wondering about these wolves though and it reminds me of
Lydia Fiora. Several people are.
(46:25):
Typing. Don't read that book if you
haven't read it, because it's the weirdest outrageous book
ever, but it's amazing. It's the trans write read a thon
time. It's a trans book so read it
out. Yeah, it's called several people
are typing and it most of it takes place on Slack.
(46:45):
All of it is through Slack messaging, readable.
It's incredible and it's just soweird.
And there's a character, Lydia, who always just keeps talking
about these wolves that she hears.
In New York City, like it's so weird, it's funny.
And then no one else hears the wolves.
So like, that's just what this conversation's reminding me of.
But yeah, so was. Everyone just tastes just there
(47:07):
being like I taste dirt and everyone else is like what?
Weird. What are you talking about?
That sounds like a you problem right now, yeah.
She's fucking creepy. She's creepy.
I need to know more. She needs help.
She needs help. All right.
Are there any, are there any characters in Yellow Jackets
that aren't explicitly queer yet, but they're on your list of
(47:30):
like, I could see it or I want it to happen?
Good question, I was really rooting for the journalist in
season 1 before they blew her up.
Oh yeah, yeah, definitely. I would love for Cali to
(47:51):
surprise us, you know, Yes. That's what I was thinking.
Yeah, I could, yeah. She has herself a nice blonde
and then we complete the mother daughter cycle of like getting
her Jackie that'd be. And it comes full circle.
If you would heal the universe, who knows.
Or Shawna would be pissed and then go nuts on her daughter.
(48:16):
She kills her daughter's girlfriend because she reminds
her too much of Jackie and she'sjealous.
Sorry, thank you, this gets all my ball into.
Craziness in such a happy, upbeat show.
I don't know why you would go to.
Dark. Why would you think that?
But no lady joke. But like, I make the most upbeat
shows really dark. That's just my specialty.
(48:41):
God, I don't know, it's so hard because I'm like, who isn't gay
in this show? I feel like I could see Mari
being gay. Yeah, I could see that also.
There's just I look at her. Just because teen Nat in season
3? I'm like why are you so good
looking? I know.
Seriously. Yeah.
(49:02):
No, I look at Natalie and I'm like.
An on point like the she's got that whole like the tank top and
the little bandana and the hair and I'm like, why is it working
for you? She's like, honestly.
Natalie the entire show, then Natalie the entire show.
Like there's something, there's like.
Natalie, yeah, she's got vibes. So I'm gonna say Teen Nat, and
that might just be me projecting.
(49:23):
It's fine. It's fine.
That's valid. I think like for Natalie, she's
just like the person. I just pansexual Natalie.
I can see that. I don't think she cares.
It's just like she'll take it asit comes.
She's here for the vibe. Yeah.
I can see that. I would like every day to find a
(49:44):
nice woman. That'd be good too.
Like somebody who has nothing todo with any of the woods shit,
just somebody who out of left field and just like extract her
from all the nonsense and like so she can go on hilly dirty.
We don't know what Hilary Swank is gonna be in season 3 yet,
right? Right, she could be Misty's
girlfriend, that'd be fine. Like get her out of this toxic
(50:05):
situation and let her peel somewhere.
Yeah, no offense to you, Elijah Wood, but.
Yeah, no, you're, you're feedingher like Murder frenzy a little
bit too much where it's getting unhealthy.
Like she needs a complete changeof everything.
I don't trust him this season. No.
There is something weird going on just in general, but I don't
(50:29):
know, Like I was looking at Misty and I was thinking I was
like, I don't know if I could see her being.
Queer. I mean like there's.
No one in this show. I can't head Canada's game
right. No, at some point she was, but
like I was just like I I just there's some like adult, adult
Misty. I don't know, there's just
(50:50):
something. Maybe she but she could be just
overcompensating with Ben when she was younger.
She's definitely. I think the adult Misty would
have. Adult Misty would have fucked
adult Nat in a heartbeat. Oh my God, you know what?
No, no, never mind, never mind. That is true.
I see everything I just said back.
That is who said they did it. True.
(51:10):
I'm not 100% convinced adult Misty doesn't still have a
vibrator named Nat somewhere in her right like.
Yeah, there. There's a reason why she had a
camera in Natalie's room. Yeah, never mind.
She was totally obsessed with Natalie.
I take. It are are they the just the
dark counterpart to to Shauna Jackie, you know the.
(51:31):
Darker counterpart, yeah. Yeah, because there there's a
reason why she goes to such a dark place after Natalie.
Like she's completely destroyed.Yeah, you're right.
Never mind. That's love.
She's a Natalie sexual. There you go.
And listen, she she had to spendjust as much time staring at
(51:52):
teen Nat in those woods as we are.
And, like, honestly valid. Yeah, I guess we get it.
We. Get it?
We get it. It was right there the whole
time. Yeah.
And she was in charge. Like, come on.
Also, cuz like, maybe she wasn'tletting herself look at Natalie,
but once like Shawna, Shawna andJackie, Shawna and Melissa,
like, and like they had that going and Ty and Van were there.
(52:17):
Missy was like, oh, I guess that's just what we're doing
now. And then she finally lets her
look at Natalie. And then it's just all over from
that. Yeah.
I also, while we're saying that, can we shout out Ty and Van
Absolutely calling out the Shauna, Jackie of the Shauna
Melissa. Yeah, because I love it for
that. Amen.
Writers. Someone had to.
Incredible. Know your audience, Yeah.
(52:39):
I love, love it. I believe it's Van who says
Like, you think she makes her dress up as Jackie?
Yes. Yeah.
Someone had to say it. So real.
And then Van. OK, so Van's video store having
the pride flag outside it just made me so happy.
(53:01):
Yeah. I just felt it felt safe just
looking at it. Do we know?
I know that the actors, like theteen actors, are queer.
Do we know anything about the status of adult van the actress?
Is she gay? Cuz boy, she reads gay I.
Don't. Know I I didn't look that up,
(53:23):
but yeah, I agree. I agree because whatever.
She's got going on, man, that that's a whole dyke on screen
and I love. Her I love yeah, I love a dull
and teen van like the two of them.
I I have no problem like connecting the two of them.
(53:44):
Yeah, but like they look so muchalike.
First of all, the casting. Show is truly fantastic.
Incredible. Oh my gosh.
But let's just take a second to talk about the representation in
general, because I did see an interview where Jasmine was like
(54:07):
something that she loved about it is that queer characters are
usually the traumatic storyline of just being queer as
traumatic, where no, the trauma is the plane crash and, you
know, eating people and the gay is and the queerness is the
light. Yeah, yeah.
(54:29):
Yeah, it's so unique. Yeah.
In saying that, that is true. And also to know, like while
you're watching, I, I am curious, like on the part of, I
mean, they have to have queer writers on this show.
And so I'm curious like how muchof the knowing that the the Thai
(54:51):
van makes it to adulthood, like while you're in all of these,
you know, traumatic life or death, stressful situations in
the woods. Like, I wonder how much of that
was deliberate as well as kind of like a you won't watch them
meet each other like. That's so true.
Oh my gosh, no, that would have been.
That's some hundreds shit. Yes, yes, exactly.
(55:14):
They would so have. Done that.
Yeah, if someone watched Yellowjackets before they wrote
that show that, yeah, that's definitely where that would have
gone. I lost the thought.
I, I will say as what when I watched it for the first time, I
was glad to see I'm like, oh, atleast the lesbians live because
like you said, then there's thatlike, are we going to do a bury
(55:36):
your gaze trope trope? Are we going to kill the people
of color off? Because like with Taisha too,
I'm like, OK, somebody person ofcolor lives through it too.
Well, that's good because that could have gone sideways.
If only like white people lived through the horrible event.
So I, I feel like there was someconsciousness in picking like
who are we definitely going to be like they make it out.
So this is in a show, in a show that's so uncomfortable to watch
(56:01):
at times, it gives you the opportunity to be comfortable
knowing that these characters domake it.
So I am glad that they did make that choice.
And I didn't even think of that.So thank you, Lee, for bringing
that up, because that is a greatpoint.
You know, that both of these characters, like the only
characters that you know, are queer.
(56:22):
Yeah, in the first season. In the first season then, But
they make it. Yeah.
They're not together. We know we're gonna, but they
make. It more of them get eaten but.
It won't be them, but we know. It won't be them, and that's
worth something, I think, you know, I agree.
(56:44):
The bar is so low that we just want to make them sure that they
live and that that is sad. But we we are heading in the
right direction as long as we keep advocating for the
representation needed. And that's just people being
people. And people eating people.
Exactly. Yeah, but like, that's something
I love about the show too. Not the eating the people.
(57:07):
It's. I love it.
Because I was, I was watching Season 3 and I told Theor this,
I was like, do I like any of these characters?
I don't, I don't think I care about any of them right now.
But it's just because I did figure out who my favorite is.
But OK, It's just they the characters are so complex.
(57:30):
Yeah, that it's, you're not meant to only hate one or only
like 1 because there's times where you love and hate the
character. And that's because they're
people and they're written as complex people who are just
going through life in these shitty circumstances, going
through mental health struggles. And that's OK.
They're not trying to write it as.
(57:55):
A fable where you're like, the moral of the story is it's like,
no, you took children and threw them in the woods and were like
live and they did what they had to do.
Like that's basically the story. And yeah, they don't, they don't
make mental health issues. It got worse.
They don't have true villains and heroes no like cuz.
Man versus because sometimes. People, writers write where this
(58:18):
character is just good and they're above everybody else.
Know these There's going to be times where this person is
acting better than the other person, but that's just because,
again, we're all fighting for our own best interests as people
because that's what people do, That's what.
People do. That's real life.
(58:38):
So basically, if you're studyingpsychology, you should be
watching. Yes, this is the case.
Yeah. This is a good psychology kind
of study and like, yeah, like human behavior.
Would you take, again, children from, quote, a civilized
society, throw them in the woods?
What do they do? How do they.
How do they survive? They form a society.
They form their own rule. They had like, again, the lawyer
(58:58):
thing, like they're like, OK, wehave some system of justice that
we're doing, you know, and then you can call it cruel, but like,
I'm sorry, let's go back to England and like what, the
1600s, they were hanging people.Like this has happened before.
So it's like, you can't be like, wow, you guys are terrible.
It's like human history is littered with worse things than
this. So they're being humans and
(59:20):
doing their best. And it's just, it's fascinating
to see. Like, I really like the cold
aspect because it's like, yeah, this is how superstitions
happen. It's just like they have to
explain it. And they have no background in
science or psychology. They're kids.
So they're just like, I guess the wilderness is telling us to
do this like, you know, like. Well, and they also do have
like, you know, the fucking enabler that is Lottie.
(59:41):
They're being like, yes, make more shrooms.
I think this will help us think through this.
Clearly, seriously, I was like what we were watching yesterday.
Yes, Aquila, that will help us. Yeah, I think because again,
like, she's so convincing because she is legitimately
hallucinating. And so it's so real to her.
Because it is real. Everybody else is like, I guess
we should get on her. It's like, no, get on her level.
(01:00:04):
But they're desperate. So it's like.
What else they gonna do? They do.
That. I I have to know though,
Caitlin, who's your favorite? Oh yeah, then then is makes
sense. Just be I was watching then and
like the like first of all, the lines that they get are amazing
and I just I love them. I think Van is easily so far the
(01:00:28):
most well adjusted character in the show.
That's valid. Yeah, 100%.
That's true 100%. Yeah.
I mean, again, bar below ground level, but I'm just saying yeah.
Van's like the rock kind of throughout the show.
Like Van stays on kind of like the same plane.
Like Van does dip into the cult stuff and then dips out of the
(01:00:51):
cult stuff, but she's not extreme in her behavior.
Or like on a polar opposite spectrum, like Lottie Misty we
talked about earlier, Van's kindof like pretty consistent.
Which feels right for like a very like ring of keys dyke
character. Totally, Absolutely.
She's practical. She's yeah, she's grounded.
Like, you know. The actors for both versions of
(01:01:12):
Anne, the, the facial expressions, they just bring me
so much joy in the line deliveryor that I just smile when I see
a van on screen. So that's why.
Yeah. Yeah, that's fair.
But they all have their moments. Most of them.
(01:01:34):
I have a request though, if anybody listening right now is a
psychologist and can come on this podcast and help us talk
about the psychology behind Yellow Jackets.
We have been looking to do that for a while because there's so
much going on and I know so muchthat we're missing too, because
we don't study psychology. We just we got to dive into
(01:01:59):
that. Absolutely.
All right. So it's a big energy award time.
Yeah. OK, All right, so.
We have the big energy award to give out, which we give out to a
character or a moment in the show that just exudes big gay
(01:02:19):
energy, whatever that means to you.
So it could be like they they just look gay.
They did something that's good. Like the the moment doesn't even
have to be actually gay. Yeah, it's just like you're
like, no, that's big gay energy.Would you like to go first the
OR do you have one? Uh, again, Shawna and Jackie's
(01:02:40):
every interaction between the two of them was big gay energy.
Every single interaction was biggay energy.
Even the hallucinations. It's like Shawna, Shawna needs a
vibrator named Jackie. Like I'm just saying like
everything is gay about their interact.
Like everything, all of them. I think just Van just has Van
(01:03:05):
consistently. Just just then, yeah, just then.
Because they just exude big gay energy from the minute you see
them until forever. Yeah, Big Van and Little Van
too. It's.
Consistent. Yeah, both of them.
They're very consistent. Also owning the video store.
That was so gay. Yeah.
(01:03:26):
Oh my God. Owning a video store in like
2024, that was really gay. Like, Oh my God, Jesus.
And spreading gayness with. Okay, I'm I have a pie.
I can't decide. I can't decide.
Is it ties? Too Because you were like any
moment or any character. And I have one moment and 1
(01:03:46):
character. Do it.
OK, so I have one moment and that moment is Van trying to
legitimately like fuck up against a tree.
Yes, the yeah hesitation of her girlfriend to straight up
murderer man. Which honestly just like snaps
to you fan the woman you are to just be like I know what will
(01:04:08):
make you able to shoot a man point blank and gold blood.
It is fucking against this tree.I saw you from behind and I was
like, honestly incredible. And she positioned.
The gun was next to them. So just a reminder, we're here
for murder. And the way she just flipped tie
like hot. Super gay.
Hot gay good job, fan shout out to that moment.
(01:04:28):
Big gay moment. I'm gonna say character.
It is for me. Shawna Shipman.
Sorry, not sorry. I just maybe this is also
influenced by the fact that likelisten, listeners, you wanna you
want to go on a delightful journey.
This is like my go to now yellowjackets fixed to recommend to
(01:04:51):
people. I can recommend to you an insane
fix that is literally just Shawna Shipman fucks her way
through the yellow jackets team one at a time.
And so maybe that clouds my interactions with season 3 now,
but I just, I, I feel like coming hot off the heels of like
having that somewhere in the back of my mind and then going
into season 3 where like they legitimately give her a
(01:05:12):
girlfriend and I was just like, yes, I.
Knew it all. Along Shawna Shipman Shawna
Shipman Certified girl kisser I'm so here for this storyline.
Like truly could not have made me a happier lesbian.
Season 3 yellow jackets Incredible.
I just think she's so fucking gay as well.
She is. It was a gift from the Yellow
(01:05:33):
Jackets creative team to finallygive us Shawna Cannon being gay.
Shauna, knife to a girl's throat, tongue down that same
throat. I mean, just yeah.
It feels so right. And it does.
And they're right for that. So do you ever find that like
(01:05:56):
the fan fiction, like you sometimes start to think that
that's what actually happened inthe show and then go back and
watch that like, oh wait, I thought this happened then
didn't cuz that that's happened. With yellow jackets, No, I had.
The thing is, is like there's a number of fandoms where I'm
like, I am into the fig and I never really watched the show.
And like, that has been a problem for me in the past.
(01:06:17):
Or I'm like, is this just a thing that like, sometimes you
have to see it come up in enoughfan fiction to yeah, it's
probably a real thing from the show, but otherwise, who's to
say? Who's to say what's in a show or
not? Nobody knows.
That's true. Nobody knows yellow it's.
What's in your heart? So yeah, yeah, exactly what is
Canon? It's a state of mind.
(01:06:40):
I I haven't yet. I'm sure there will be stuff,
though. Yeah, I'm sure.
Especially like I just do you get, you get far enough away
from when a show airs at a certain point and that starts to
happen. Yeah, that one especially like I
I just rewatching Yellow Jacketsagain, I forget so much, but
(01:07:02):
that's just me normally. So like if I, if I remove myself
for a year or more from a show, I can rewatch it and it's brand
new to me. It's great, except like the big
plot points, I remember that. But like the little stuff, I'm
like, oh, that happened that yeah, it's insane.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, anything else about
(01:07:24):
the queerness of yellow jackets before I ask the audience
something? I think we're good.
Do it all. Right, so I have another
question for the audience instead of a word this time that
I want you to use in a comment or answer, even in a review.
Because when you review the podcast and you use our secret
(01:07:45):
words at the end of the episodesor answer a question, I just
find that be hilarious. Just people going through
reviews and just be like, what the.
Hell is this. Anyway, so I just want to know
what would you give the big energy award to in yellow
jackets? Yeah.
Yeah, because there's. So much.
There's so much that's like, noteven Canon that's just written
(01:08:08):
in there. What do you think it is?
Yeah, a while. There's no wrong answer, so
yeah, let us know what you thought about yellow jackets.
I just want to you want to plug your podcast.
Oh yes. Sure, If you want to hear more
of my gay thoughts on all gay things, you can check out Let's
(01:08:30):

good time. I love that you have This Should
Have been gay episodes because first of all, so many things are
gay like that. They don't.
They don't know they're gay, butyou know they're gay.
I legitimately at this point, sowe just recorded this week our
(01:08:53):
145th should have been gay episode and our running
statement now is like, actually,I've never seen a straight movie
or show. They don't exist.
They are myth only. If you think you've seen one,
you're wrong, you're wrong. Tell us about it and let us tell
you why you're wrong because they don't.
Everything's gay. There's not a movie out there
(01:09:14):
that's straight doesn't exist. If Yellowjackets taught us
anything, our brains can manipulate anything.
Yeah, so we will see the gay. And hopefully the writers
confirm it in later season, something like you were right.
But thank you it's. Always the validation.
We're we're misty in that point. We need the validation.
Yeah, right. All right, Well, thank you for
