Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Bill Monty's Guide for Gettin' Older.
Hello, my friends, and welcometo Bill Monty's Guide for
Gettin' Older.
I am your host, bill Monty.
I'm so glad that you graced mewith your presence for this
episode and, by the way, happyNew Year to 2025.

(00:22):
This is our first new episodeof 2025.
Very excited about that andvery excited that you decided to
join me on this particularjourney.
I just want to mention right upfront if you enjoy what you hear
, I hope that you'll hit thatfollow or subscribe button,
whatever platform you'relistening on, eye button,

(00:43):
whatever platform you'relistening on.
It helps us to grow the show.
It helps keep us in theforefront of platforms such as
Spotify, apple, youtube, amazon,etc.
So today, with it being a newyear, I thought we have all of
these nice new year promisesthat we make ourselves.

(01:04):
We have a whole bunch of stuffgoing on and we like the
holidays, but we really likelet's be honest with ourselves
we really like discounts.
At least I know I do.
So I thought to myself whydon't we talk about some of the
ways that we can save money in2025?
That's for those of us who are60 years of age or older.

(01:26):
Now, some of these will be tiedto an AARP discount.
So I need to state right upfront anything I talk about here
in this episode AARP or any ofthese companies I have no
affiliation with them.
I don't make any money.
If you decide to go ahead andgo in there for a discount or
anything like that, there's nolinks to click.

(01:47):
So this is just my way ofsharing some information that I
found out, and I'm surprised atsome of these things, and maybe
you'll be surprised too.
So let's get started, shall we?
Everyone sit back, get a nicecup of hot cocoa with you.
So the first was Amazon Prime.
Now let me tell you something.
I pay a lot of money for AmazonPrime.
I do get the Prime streamingnetwork, of course, and I use

(02:11):
Amazon.
Most of my holiday gifts thisyear were bought because of
Amazon, and they're offering upto a 50% off monthly Prime
membership for seniors whoreceive government assistance,
including Medicaid and SSI orSupplemental Security Income.
So if you receive some of thatand you're a senior who uses

(02:34):
Amazon, you might want to checkinto this.
You can check it out online orjust give them a call in their
service area.
Customer service area PapaJohn's who doesn't love a good
Papa John's pizza.
If you're an AARP member, youcan get 20% off any online
orders.
Better ingredients that's whatthey say, right?

(02:55):
Better pizza, better prices.
Marriott Hotels I'm gettingready to plan a vacation it's
going to take place in April andnotice that anyone who's 62 or
older is eligible to save atleast 10% on a Marriott Hotel
stay.
You just have to be sure thatyou book the room under the name
of the person who is 62 yearsof age or older, and any time

(03:18):
that we're talking aboutsomething like this, like an
entertainment type ticket or ahotel stay or travel, they're
going to ask you for your ID toprove your age.
So do be prepared for that.
Okay?
Ihop I've only recentlydiscovered IHOP and started
going back there, and let metell you something.
One of the things that I likeis they have a 55 plus menu.

(03:40):
So I've been eligible for thisfor a very long time, but I had
kind of not gone to IHOP for awhile.
Different reasons didn't havesome great experiences sometimes
, but the last few times I'vebeen great food and great
experiences.
So their 55 plus menu hasdiscounted prices for customers
who are guests.
Go ahead, take a guess, that'sright 55 years or older.

(04:01):
Some items, like the pancakeand egg combo, are almost 20 off
the regular price.
So just go in there, enjoy it.
It have a nice good meal, breakfast, especially Walgreens.
Did you know that the I did notknow this that the first Tuesday
of every month is Senior Day atWalgreens?
Customers who are 55 or olderand who are enrolled in the my

(04:26):
Walgreens Rewards Program I gotto check, am I?
If not, I'm going to you canget up to 20% off your purchase,
including everything fromtoiletries to snacks.
It's also available if you'rean online shopper.
So again, that's the firstTuesday of every month.
Mark it on your calendar SeniorDay at Walgreens, and be sure

(04:46):
to go and join the my WalgreensRewards program.
Get that 20% off Kohl's.
I'm not a big kohl's shopper,but my wife is.
And if you are 60 years of ageor older not just 60, don't just
say well, only for one year youcan do this.
60 years of age or older, youcan stop by any kohl's location

(05:07):
on wednesdays and you can get 15off of select brands.
And you know those kohl'sdollars as they have, you can
use those% off of select brands.
And you know those cold dollarsas they have, you can use those
too.
There's no restrictions onthings like that.
So that's nice, right.
T-mobile hey, I'm a T-Mobilecustomer, recently switched Okay
, I'm going to do a plug hereAgain, I don't get paid for this
Recently switched to theirinternet, their 5G internet, did

(05:29):
it?
Dropped my other carrier almost$55 a month, saving by
switching to the T-Mobileinternet.
So customers who are age 55 andolder can sign up for a
T-Mobile discounted senior planwhich gives users two unlimited

(05:49):
lines starting at just $60 amonth.
Now there's going to be fees ontop of that, you know taxes and
all that stuff.
But some of the plans includesome perks, like subscriptions
to Apple TV Plus and Netflix, aswell as a complimentary AAA
membership.
So if your car breaks down andyou're sitting in your car and
you've got your T-Mobile phoneand you're watching Netflix,

(06:10):
you'll have something to dowhile waiting for AAA to show up
.
Amtrak Ah, I love trains.
Do you love trains?
I love trains.
Trains do you love trains?
I love trains.
Amtrak offers 10 off discounton most railfares for passengers
65 years of age and older.
Ask about that the next timeyou're booking a trip, if you're
going to plan on going onamtrak.

(06:31):
I do want to do that, but youknow, I'm down here in south
florida and it's just not reallyconvenient.
It takes so long to get out ofthis state.
Trains are not, unfortunately, the way to go.
But, man, if I lived up north Icould tell you right now I'd be
doing some train travelingmyself.
Be sure to look for that seniordiscount, that 10% off, the next
time you book on Amtrak, hertzRent-A-Cars.

(06:53):
Drivers who are over 50, over50, not 60, so some of you
younger seniors there can get upto 20% off of the base rates
when renting a car through Hertz.
If you're calling for areservation, just be sure to
tell them that you're 50 yearsof age or older, because they
might not honor it once you goto pick up the car if you didn't

(07:13):
tell them ahead of time.
You don't want to gum up thework.
You want to get in there andget your car and get out as fast
as you possibly can.
Right, okay, if you're an AARPmember, you should be going to
LensCrafters because you can getup to 50% off of lenses, 30%
off sunglasses and 10% offcontact lenses.
Members can also get their eyeschecked for a $55 copay at

(07:35):
participating locations.
Listen, I wear glasses havesince I was seven years old.
Probably should have beenwearing them before I was seven,
but my parents didn't catch onuntil I was seven.
I can make use of this hereLens Crafters 50% off of lenses.
I'm actually looking for a newpair of glasses now.
I just had my eye exam a coupleof weeks ago around the
holidays, and it's expensive.

(07:55):
And I've got my Medicareinsurance and I've got, you know
, my Medicare insurance and I'vegot my insurance through work
Still very expensive.
So I might go check that out.
50% off of lenses atLensCrafters hey, it's in the
name LensCrafters.
If you're a breakfast lover andyou go to IHOP and the line's
too long, maybe hop over toDenny's.
They also have a 55 plus menuavailable whether you dine in or

(08:20):
you order online.
Aarp members can also claim a15% discount on select Denny's
menus items.
By the way, again going to haveto show proof of age for the
AARP when you're going to showyour AARP card, so make sure you
have that with you.
Now, this next one was asurprise, because we eat at
Chili's about once a month.
They offer seniors 10% off oftheir check, excluding alcohol.

(08:43):
Well, I don't drink, so that'snot a problem.
So be sure to let your serverknow, because apparently they
don't offer this.
No one looks at me and goes Idon't know, is he a senior?
I'm a senior, they got it.
The big white beard and whitehair kind of is the clue there.
They offer 10% off your check.
So, look, that's going to coverthe tip right A little bit more
, but take a dime everywhere youcan right.

(09:04):
That's what we do.
Hey, we got it coming to us.
We've been around for a longtime, so, chili's, next time we
go, which will probably be atleast in the next week, I got to
remember to ask for my 10% offsenior discount, which they have
not been offering me.
National Park Service PassExplorers, hikers and nature
lovers, this one is for you.
If you're 62 or older, you canpurchase a Senior Annual Pass

(09:28):
for $20.
That's good for all year.
Or you can opt for a SeniorLifetime Pass for $80.
So that'll last your whole lifeand you're only paying an
additional $60.
Either way, it offers access tothousands of national parks and
federal recreation sites, aswell as discounts of up to 50%
off select amenity fees.

(09:50):
So let me just tell yousomething.
A few months ago we planned togo out to Everglades National
Park and I was just lookingonline it was going to cost $25
a person.
So this is a great deal.
So next time we go, I'm goingto be sure to take advantage of
this before we make our nextplan to go to a national park,
because that's a great deal.
That's $20 for a senior annualpass or $80 for a lifetime pass.

(10:15):
So there are some deals outthere for you.
Help you save some money.
In 2025, my friends, there'sgoing to be more.
I'll be doing an additional showin a few weeks here to tell you
about some more of thesediscounts, but hope you take
advantage of them, and I'll putthese in the show notes too, if
you didn't write them down, because if you're driving,
listening to this or you'reworking out, whatever it might

(10:35):
be, you might not have access towrite down all the stuff I told
you.
So I'll be sure to put them inthe show notes for you and, if I
can make it work, I'll even putin some links.
How's that Right?
What a deal.
And again, if I could ask myfriends, just go ahead and hit
that like button, the follow orsubscribe, whichever it is.
I do so appreciate that you canleave a comment or just go down

(10:57):
in the show notes.
There's a link to somethingcalled.
It says leave me a message inmy show notes and it's a link to
something called SpeakPipe.
That's a tool where you canactually leave me a 90-second
recorded message if you have aquestion or you just want to
leave a comment, hopefully acomment of support.
All right, we're coming to theend of the show and, by the way,
I do appreciate that you stickaround to the end.
Again, those of you who stickout all the way through to the

(11:20):
end.
That helps podcasters so muchbecause it encourages the Apples
and the Amazons and theSpotify's to put your podcast
out in front of more ears.
Until the next time that wemeet in 2025, I can't believe
it's 2025 already.
I want to thank you.

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
