Powered by Riverside FM Hello there and welcome We Are

(00:29):
the Vicious of Death and mere podcast.
My name is Rachel. I'm Jen.
Yeah. Yeah, we're a print media
podcast. Love it.
Yes, yeah. So we are print media podcast.
We specialize all things novel, short stories and comics.
We're currently covering The High Republic and are in reading
Beware the Nameless by Zoraida Cordova.

(00:50):
It's been so good, and this is our last episode on this book,
so it's bittersweet. Yeah, this last section was so
intense. It was so good.
It was and knowing like where we're at in phase three, I know
everything's just going to continue to get more intense and
I'm so nervous for it based on how intense this was.

(01:12):
Oh, totally. We'll see how it goes, but I
think before we get into the actual book, we always talk
about Star Wars news, Star Wars news, Star Wars news.
Do you have anything fun to share today?
I guess the first thing I have is we are rather Trials of the
Jedi is out and everyone has read it and finished it.

(01:36):
Everyone except us has read it. I know.
It's not true. I've seen people that are like
starting my high Republic journey and I'm like, oh, see,
we're doing fine. We're fine.
There's people on phase one right now.
Yeah, I'm, I'm happy for all of you secretly a little salty and
trying really, really hard to avoid spoilers.
And everyone's allowed to talk about it now.

(01:56):
It's been like over a week. So I'm like tiptoeing around
social media at the moment. Yeah, I I've seen some like
spoiler free reviews and I kind of like skim it just just
because I'm curious, you know? Oh yes.
Like I want to know the vibes. And it seems like so far the
vibes are great. Everyone is loving this book.

(02:18):
Yeah, I heard it compared to like it's The Avengers end game
of Star Wars, you know, or it's all been the highest of praise
and people are mentioning like, damn you, Charles Soul for this
chapter, that chapter. And I'm like, I'm not ready for
whatever that. Mean totally.
Me neither. Oh my God.
Well, we will get there in a year.

(02:42):
You know. No, no, we are.
We're doing pretty good pace wise.
I'm really proud of us. Well, besides that, did you have
anything else fun? You just got my Boca Tan flight
suit. It came in the mail.
Yeah, it's amazing and it's beautiful and it mostly fits.
There are a couple issues, and Iam going to have to reach out to
some first people to kind of like pick their brains on how to

(03:05):
best approach these issues. Part of me wants to fix it
myself. Part of me is like I don't think
I can fix it and the other part I need to know if this is a bad
enough issue because I've been looking at some of the photos
and it seems like everyone else is kind of having the same issue
that I'm having so maybe. So it's not just.
You, yeah. So we'll see.

(03:27):
But it's so exciting. I'm so glad to like progress
this cosplay forward. I cannot wait to see this.
I'm so excited for you. Well, in great news, remember
last week and I was like, I'm forgetting something in Star
Wars news, but I can't look at the notes 'cause they're on my
phone, I prepped. This week, they're on a separate
screen. I'm doing great and I finally
remembered what it was, which isthe British Film Institute.

(03:50):
It's called the BFI. I had their second annual film
on Film Festival. So this now I guess would be
like two or three weeks ago. And as part of it, they actually
had a very special rare screening of the first film
print of episode 4. First film print.
Like the very first edition thatever existed wasn't called A New
Hope. There were things in it that

(04:11):
ended up getting changed. And I guess George Lucas is not
happy with this edition, which is why it it's not something
that people see a lot. So interesting.
He feels like it's unfinished. But I, I think just for the sake
of like, I don't know, being nostalgic or like just honoring
the fact that regardless of which edition you're watching,

(04:32):
this was the start of such an epic universe.
And so people were flabbergastedbecause the amount of people who
have seen this are very small. But Kathleen Kennedy came and
she actually introduced the filmto assure everyone that this was
not not an illegal screening, which is.
My God, that's amazing. So good and I love it.

(04:52):
And I loved seeing discussions about what people thought of it
and all this stuff, and I just thought that was really cool.
One day I want to go to a Film Festival because I love stuff
like this. And even if it's terrible, I
mean, who cares? You know what I mean?
There's that again. The nostalgia of knowing what it
becomes, to me, overrides any ofthe like.
Yeah, absolutely. And I'm so curious to see like

(05:13):
what things were cut and what about but it like he didn't like
and I don't I. Know, I know, Han shoots first
for sure. Like it's a different sequence.
In that addition, it's also not called New Hope yet.
It is just Star Wars, which is super cool.
And I think there were a couple other things, but I can't
remember what they were. I think, I mean, George has said

(05:36):
before that he felt some of his ideas were unfinished.
But at the same time, when he created that, he thought that
would be the only one. And I don't think he was like
trying to make this big universe.
So I feel like as soon as he started making more movies,
you're going to be looking back at that first one and going, oh,
why did I do that? Why did I do that?
But like, you weren't creating that with that in mind at the

(05:56):
time. So I, it's not something to me
that's bothersome. I just take it as this is part
of Star Wars, you know, it's part of the quirkiness of Star
Wars. Yeah, but weren't the film when
The New Hope just first came outthat there was, it was just
called Star Wars. There was no A New Hope.
There was. It wasn't until Empire Strikes
Back that we got a new name, right?

(06:18):
So this is not that version. This is a pre that version.
Yes, So I'm assuming this is theversion that was first released
in theaters. Oh, really?
Like the very very at first possibly, but I'm not even sure
if it ever got released in theaters or if this was like pre
screenings. Yeah, makes me wonder if it's
pre screenings if so few people watched it because I feel like

(06:39):
so many people watched Star Wars.
In theaters. In theaters.
Yeah. So, yeah, I'm assuming maybe,
I'm sure someone out there is like clenching their fists
because they know more details about this and that's great.
Please tell us. But I just thought that was so
cool and I loved that Kathleen was like, I got to go to this or
else people are going to be crying thinking that like Disney
is coming after them or something.

(07:03):
Or how cool they are because they showed something and how
Disney was like no, don't show this.
Yeah, yeah. But what a cool experience for
the people that did get to go. I just, I love film history and
to me that's it's very historical, I guess, honoring a
film so. I love it.
That's a good one. Yeah.
And then as of today, actually technically last night for me,

(07:23):
but it depends on what time zoneyou're in.
Legacy Evader issue 5 is out. Yeah, I haven't read it yet.
Do you you really like it? I loved it.
Girl, this man needs so much therapy like so.
So much. He is like I thought he was
struggling when he was like halfnaked in the fucking now Huda

(07:44):
situation or whatever. No, there was nothing compared
to this man's emotional ass situation that's happening.
The only or not hint spoiler that I got was someone say
saying that he's now King of Naboo.
I was like, what does that mean?Yeah.
Nobody knows what it means, He doesn't know what it means.
It's kind of that's like the story is like him being like I

(08:05):
don't know what I'm fucking doing and Hucks is like, what
are you fucking doing? And he's like, I don't know.
The cool part was I think I commented on the first issue
possibly that I loved that we got to see Ben and non 1st order
close. That happens again and it's
really cool and fun and I love it.
So that's great. Yeah, I'm excited for you to.

(08:27):
Look at it. That will be on my list of
things to do after this episode.Yes, one that everyone's talking
about because it's really, really, really cool, is there is
now a new map of the Galaxy thathas premiered on Star Wars.
Right, an updated map. Awesome.
Yeah. So it includes a lot more stuff
and it's beautiful. It's a little overwhelming, but.

(08:47):
Literally what I I said I was like this is cool but I don't
know where to start. Yeah, I looked at it for like 5
seconds and then it was like beautiful, I'm never looking at
this again. But the very last bit of Star
Wars news I have, I think it's really important is that by the
time that this episode comes out, it will have passed.
But in two days from now it is someone's birthday.

(09:09):
So happy, happy pre birthday. Thank you.
Thank you. I wanted to do there are you get
a two-part gift this year and soI figured I will do one gifts
freely given for the small thingwhile we're recording and then
you can get the other piece whenI see you for fun times over the
weekend. Yay.
All right, dumping it up. This is shit.

(09:32):
I literally just looked at this to make sure I got his name
right. But one person that we follow
and that follows us and is wonderful, just opened a little
shop and it's got some High Republic stuff on it.
Oh. My God, it's like.
Dad's free. Shit, I'm so terrible I can't
believe that I've already forgotten who this was.
I will try and pull it up while I'm like premiering this to you

(09:55):
because I'm pretty sure I have the receipt somewhere in here.
But Oh yeah, this Dad reads. Yes, OK.
Yeah, this person what? Love it.
Beautiful, amazing sticker with such good characters on it.
He's got shirts of this as well. That is so cool, thank you so

(10:17):
much. I am so excited for you to have
it. I may have selfishly got one for
me too. Gift for you, gift for me.
Exactly. So that one, that's why I got
you 2 because that one cancels itself out since I bought myself
one. So the other one will be your
like real gift. But I had to get it.
I was so excited that he opened his shop like just in time for

(10:38):
me to get that for you. I already had the other gift,
but that one I was like, I have to get that sticker.
It's so I love. It thank you yeah, of.
Course. So yeah, go check out this Dad
reads. Thanks for being awesome and
making awesome High Republic stuff, and happy birthday.
Thank you. Yeah.
Yeah, all right, that is. That's all my Star Wars news.

(10:59):
Yeah, that's all of my Star Warsnews.
Do you want to talk about the book we're reading?
Yeah, I sure do. So we are reading again Beware
the Nameless by Zoraida Cordova and we are covering chapters 15
through 24. In our last episode, we found
out that Lexi was still alive and on Palagosol, but she was

(11:20):
She and some others were trappedin a bunker.
The Jedi younglings and their friends encountered the nameless
Master. Karl sacrificed herself so that
everyone could get away, and thegroup reached Tortal Cove
outposts where they seemingly saved this individual named
Hayes from a trapped underneath the rubble.
Bum bum bum. We know as readers or listeners

(11:42):
that Hayes is not who she appears to be.
No, but I love we start chapter 15 in the bunker.
I just love this entire bunker storyline.
It just cracks me up. But I like we get Lexi is
dreaming, but she's dreaming of iron, and I immediately was
like, I think I know why she's dreaming of iron, but there's
like she sees like krills, sharks bouncing along the way

(12:02):
and she wakes up realizing like that's not my memory, but it's
raw lens the Jedi that is with her and she's sitting there like
sharing memories with her. That's amazing.
It's really cool. I, I guess she like, I don't
know if she was like having a nightmare or what it was that
made Roland want to provide something nice for her, but I

(12:22):
thought that was lovely. That was so lovely and I'd love
to do that. We get this nice visual of IRAM
too. It's just like a call back to
Convergence, which was such a great book.
So I'm like, here we are again. I know I miss.
I miss those crazy planets. Me too.
Hope you guys are doing well, but I feel like Lexi is kind of

(12:43):
reaching this point and it's not.
It's a realistic point to be at given their situation, which is
not good, right? They're running out of food.
Rollin is like dying of an infection.
Everyone's not doing well, and at some point they're going to
essentially starve to death. So Lexi is losing hope.
But don't you worry because the Jedi are really good at
reminding people to have hope. And Rollin is like, don't worry

(13:06):
about it, we're getting rescued. And Lexi's like, how do you know
that? And obviously, like she feels
the presence, I'm assuming, of everybody that's currently above
them that they don't know about.But.
Well, yeah, because they suddenly hear footsteps above
them and Marl walks up the ladder and starts banging on the
roof of the the bunker. She's like, hello, we're in

(13:27):
here. I know it's like we finally get
that little glimmer of hope thatLexi really needed, that things
are going to be OK. But we also know as readers that
things are not going to be OK. Because when Lexi had checked
Rollins bandages, she noticed something a little odd.
Not the wound that she's aware of.
It was something else. And Rollin had also noticed it.

(13:49):
And it actually happened before the Nihil takeover of the
Outpost. And I was like, what is
happening? And it's gotten bigger.
Yep. Hate that it's a Gray rash,
guys. So the flight of death waves for
Rollin. Yeah, because as readers of all
of the other High Republic novels, we have heard and read

(14:12):
countless time about this blightthat, like, starts out as a
small speck and then spreads andspreads.
I mean, this is not a good sign. We've got marquee on rose
experimentation like took a cat that dies.
We know how this goes. Well, again, it's like there's
multiple villains operating at the same time, kind of with the
same thing where it's like you've got, you know, Nevada

(14:33):
Dren Dow, who is working with the Nameless with Baron Bulan.
And then you've got Marquee on who's moved on from the Nameless
and is working on the Blight stuff with the Dream Gear.
Like the Jedi are in a bad spot.Yeah, they've, they have a lot
of different things to tackle. And I definitely don't like this
blight. I mean, the Nameless, I felt
like we finally got to the pointwhere like, yeah, we kind of get

(14:55):
the nameless like lightning and you can blast them and you can
like throw your ship and it'll kill them.
So like they can't die. And it's possible.
Now we got this blight. Like, how the heck do you kill
an infectious blade that like isa planet killer in one sense?
And like, where does it come from?
How does it spread? There are just so many unknowns
at this point. So, so many.

(15:16):
Yeah, I really want to know how Rollin got her spot.
I do too. That's the part that's driving
me crazy because I'm like, does that mean the Blight is
somewhere on this planet or havethey like figured something out
with the nameless to help spreadit?
You know what I mean? Yeah, so lots and lots of
questions and 0 answers, but we at least get this one little

(15:37):
glimmer of light, which is that they hear somebody above them
and start the banging like you were talking about, so that
hopefully they're going to be heard and saved.
Yes, and the blight will spread further.
As everyone just crowds up with Rollin on the ladder rubbing
against her and I'm like. Hugs them.
Blight for you Blight. For you, you get a blight and

(15:57):
you get a blight. Goodness.
Well in our next chapter, chapter 16, we are in Marles
Good Enough eats Tortal Cove Outpost.
We're on Denny's perspective andshe's just pissed that Hayes is
not her sister. She's like, Hayes is not my
sister. I don't like this Hayes girl.
Like she's underneath all this rubble and she doesn't have any

(16:20):
injuries. She's got like a injured ankle,
whatever. Yeah.
But of course, all the Jedi are being very Jedi like and
compassionate and understanding about Hayes's perspective and
situation. Yeah, and I mean, even Zinny's
trying really hard not to be this way, you know what I mean?
Cuz she has this moment where she's like, wait a second, I was

(16:40):
definitely mean to Churro. Am I being racist again?
And it's like, maybe so she has that moment of trying to be
like, maybe I'm just upset because it's not Lexi.
But as it goes on, I feel like all these suspicions keep
popping up, and I'm glad Zenni'spaying attention because the
Jedi are unfortunately not. No, because Welga's like trying

(17:01):
to calm because she's like yeah I'm at the tower now, I can calm
Ram and the others but it's not working so the calms down.
So what that Welga has this ideato go back to the comms tower
and actually like physically look at this thing to see what's
going on in case basically like jumps up and is about to like
run out the door, be like no, no, no, no, don't look at this.
Yeah, she like, fakes crying over her injury to like, get

(17:24):
people to pay attention to her, and she also deflects the
attention a little bit by pointing out Churro.
No, she totally does. Yeah.
And she's like, look over there at him.
I think I know you. Where are you from?
And it's all this stuff where it's just like Zenni is becoming
increasingly aware something is not right when especially Churro
got a signal out. And that was after the Nihol

(17:46):
raided the town. But yeah, but she says, hey,
says they destroyed the comms tower when they raided the town.
So I think that's kind of the big, like something's not lining
up. Here, Yeah, yeah.
We do get one of our second awesome picture page during this
thing. Oh my God, I love it.
Riding turtles, Turtles. It's so good, it's so cute.

(18:11):
I do. I am very curious to know why
they pick the places for these pictures that they do.
Yeah, because in my version, I did the Kindle edition and that
photo was in with the chapter where they're writing the
Turtles in the Rain. Yeah.
And that would make the most sense.
And I've noticed that the other kids books also do that.
Where the pictures, pictures andthe physical copy don't line up

(18:32):
with the chapters they're talking about and I was curious
why. Like there's obviously got to be
a reason. My brain says that it has to be
something, has to do something with the printing process.
Like there's they can only printon like X&Y pages and for
whatever reason that's like, I don't know, it's a different
texture too, right? Yeah, it's like glossy.

(18:53):
Are those out of curiosity? Are those you know how?
Like when you have a bind book, there's a page and it's, it's
not connecting to the page rightnext to it.
It connects to like a page far away.
You know what I'm talking about. No, I don't have the book with
me. But the binding is like when you
bind books, you have like like, OK, 1234 and then they're like

(19:15):
stacked on top of each other, right?
And you fold them together. So one page is going to have
like 1 and 20 on it and then another one is going to have two
and 19. I see, yes.
So it looks like one of them is connected to that page 218 and
the other one is connected to the following page.
Yeah. So it's, it's a little different

(19:37):
than I think what you're describing, which just makes me
more suspicious of why they've done it this way if it's not a
like requirement for the printing process.
But maybe it is. I was just curious to know
because I've noticed that's a pattern.
And with this one, I was finallylike, I got to bring it up.
I can't. I can't hold it up anymore.
That is so weird. Yeah, it is.
Yeah. And that has nothing to do with
what's happening right now. But it was a pretty picture.

(19:57):
Had to share it. Yep, Yep, Yep.
Yeah, Cuz we're at the point point now where Zenni's offering
to go to the docking Bay with Churros.
And because they're talking about Nameless and how they're
out there and how the Jedi shouldn't go out there, they
should be safe in this diner. So Zenni's like, hey, I'm, I'm
safe. Like Nameless can't affect me.
So she offers to go out with Churro and they're gonna go look

(20:20):
for some ships and some other way of communicating with Ram.
And the others and this, this iswhere Hayes jumps up.
I guess before Hayes just started crying at the idea of
walking. Hayes definitely jumps up and
everybody like stops and looks at her like your ankle is
functioning normally now. Yeah, Whoopsie, poopsie.

(20:40):
Rookie mistake there on Hayes's Park.
Because now the entire room is suspicious and not just one or
two. They start calling her out on
things that don't add up. They're just putting it out on
the table what's happening rightnow, which is that's not good.
Because then that kind of urges her to the next part of her
plan, which is when she brings her weapon out that she had

(21:03):
hidden under a bunch of like rubble or something.
And Tep Tep is close enough thatshe's able to grab her and put
the weapon under her neck. Not Tep.
Tep. Of course, I was going to say
Churro just runs out the diner. He's like, I'm out of here.
Yeah, And she's like, well, that's one less person I got to
fight against. And everyone's like, what?
And turn around and Churro's just gone.

(21:24):
Like, Churro, sweet Angel. She also threatens to bite off
Tep Tep's head if anyone tries anything.
This escalated so fast. It really did.
I wonder if, I mean, I guess nowwe know more about Hayes
finishing these chapters. Yes, that Hayes definitely could
have bit her head off. Yeah, we kind of like last

(21:44):
episode or maybe the episode prior, we're kind of talking
about what Hayes may or may not look like.
And you had described it kind oflike, I think it's sharky and
it's so funny. I wanted to bring this up.
I think I messaged you about it.We get kind of this further
description of her here and it clicked something in my brain
that I didn't pick up on before. So in this scene, her jaw like

(22:05):
unhinges and then elongates downand has a bunch of Rosa teeth.
And as soon as I heard that, I was like, that sounds a lot like
this prehistoric shark like thing that I know about somehow
in my brain. And I was like, I need to figure
out what that is. So I put like whirl mouth shark
because I knew it was called something like that and it is in
fact real. I didn't make it up.

(22:25):
And it's so funny because the name or the genus name of this
shark is Helicoprion, which is Hayes's planet.
So yeah, Zoraida solved the mystery.
You totally were inspired by this cool prehistoric fish.
It's not actually. It's not actually a shark, but
it is cartilaginous, so close enough.

(22:47):
I know it's close. It's more close to ratfish.
They didn't say that they were ashark.
They were really related to the Carcarodons.
Yeah. So the writer also whips that
out. And I was like, what?
I love it. Yeah.
Yeah. And now I feel bad about all
this shit. I've talked about all the

(23:08):
animals in the High Republic because the writer really showed
up for us on this one. She really did.
This is like the most accurate of the animal situations that
happened. Remember when you called this
thing a lamprey? You know, I, I didn't have all
the information. Meanwhile, I'm over here like
it's a lemon. Shark.
Hey, at least you were much closer than a damn lamprey, OK?

(23:29):
You were like in the same like family or whatever and I was not
even remotely close. You still have the circular.
I know just as soon as they werelike who jaw unhinges and a long
eggs, I was like, I'm out. Like it's not a lamprey anymore.
But yeah, I thought that was so,so cool and I had to bring that
up. I love it.

(23:50):
That's awesome. But I think that takes us to
chapter 17, Turtle Cove. And this is where Churro was
like, Oh my God, bye. He is shuffling, sliding,
getting away. And he knew he had to go.
When Hazel mentioned the bounty on the huts and like possibly
recognizing him, he just got so scared in that moment that all

(24:10):
of his new friends were going tofind out why he was really there
and that he had the egg. And so he just got overwhelmed
and his response was to run. Well, yeah, because he has been
hiding the truth from his friends and he cares so much
about them. He doesn't want to lose them and
lose their trust and he doesn't want them to find out through
haze that he's been like deceiving them this whole time.

(24:33):
And like, I'm sure he also has the added weight of being a hot
and especially with Zenny being super suspicious of him the
whole time because he's a hot so.
Yeah. And then on top of that, too,
he's worrying about his family and how he's thinking about what
his family would do and how theywould not care at all about the
Jedi and the fate of them and. Yeah.

(24:55):
Complicated position Churro is in.
It is. He's like weighing it back and
forth as he shuffles over to thecomms tower.
As it's like pouring and like Thor lightning, he's just like
in the mud super. Dramatic.
Yeah. As he's in this crossroads of
like, OK, when I get up there, Ican either call Dahara, call my
sister and go home, or I could call the Jedi.

(25:18):
So that is a hefty decision thathe has to make.
But the universe or the Force orwhatever kind of makes it for
him, right? Because what?
You're talking about. Well, he gets up there and sees
a bunch of candy wrappers on thefloor.
Yes, that's right. And it's funny because these
were the exact same candies thatHayes had in the diner.

(25:40):
So it clicks for him in this moment that Hayes is not who she
says she is. And so he's like, Oh my God, I,
I can't abandoned my friends. It doesn't matter if they find
out about the egg. It doesn't matter if they end up
hating me. I have to save them from
whatever Hayes has going on. And so at this point, it's
pretty obvious to me that he wasgoing to call the Jedi, whether

(26:01):
or not they said it. And I, I like that he's this
amazing wiring expert, I guess because she had ripped all the
wires out, right? He had.
Yeah, He just gathers a bunch oftools that are sitting around,
and it's like, which is the noise that wires make when you
fuse them together. Obviously, once he gets it done,
he's like, this is my moment of truth, right?
This is like the big decision I have to make.

(26:23):
And he's afraid to call them both because that was kind of my
thought was like, why not just call both of them?
He's afraid his sister is going to be arrested by the Republic.
And I was like, OK, that's fair.But he's also afraid he's going
to you hatch a nameless and thenuse that against the Jedi,
possibly. So at the end of the day, I kind
of was like, he's definitely calling the Jedi, but they

(26:46):
didn't actually confirm, right that that's who he called.
Yep. No, they don't say.
What it is, it just says that hesends a transmission and hopes
that it's the right call. And of course, like, as soon as
he's done hitting send, he like looks up and sees a nameless
walking by in the streets. And he's like, oh.
So he makes the decision to go help his friends.

(27:07):
So he realizes that the namelesskind of like go after the egg.
So he grabs his egg out of his backpack and slithers back into
the rain as fast as he can. I love it.
He's becoming. Such a brave boy, he truly is.
It's really cool to see his progression from like this, like
very scared, anxious timid Hut who loves bugs, to a less scared

(27:31):
timid Hut who also still loves bugs and he's less scared.
Doing scarier things than he wasdoing before.
It's like this great leap for his character to realize I had
this courage in me all along. I just needed to be in a
situation where I was forced to be courageous.
And he hopefully made the right choice.
Again, we don't actually know who he called at this moment,

(27:53):
and I do. I loved the description of the
nameless walking around. And I just want to say I really
want a video of like darkness and a lightning flash and
nameless stalking around that. And you only see them during the
of lightning. Yeah, just like that, yeah.
Our cuties, yeah. I thought that was a great
chapter. Yeah, it was so good.

(28:14):
Well, luckily in the next chapter, Chapter 18, we find out
immediately who he calls becausewe are in hyperspace aboard the
Innovator with Ram and the friends, deeply excited to be
somewhere. Else for just a minute.
I know. Me too.
Yeah, Ram and. Alyssa are talking about their

(28:34):
mission to -3 they had rescued 131 hostages, very specific
number, but unfortunately if Dundo got away and they're kind
of bummed about that. But they also had found that the
Nile were using jirachi stalks because they have a similar
compound to that mycopram, whichis that beauty cream that they
were using to kind of like keep the nameless alive longer.

(28:58):
So like that we got an answer towhy the Nile were there.
Yes, but it's weird. Because Niv always has nameless
with him, and they realize this time he didn't.
And so they were like, well, if they're not with him, where are
they? Yeah, Mystery.
And who else was missing? Miss Driggett?

(29:19):
Our sweet, sweet. Friend, I know, I say with all
the sarcasm in the world. I have hopes for.
Her I. Kind of put her in a darker pot
than, like, Churro where she's just like, really angry.
She's almost kind of like Haze and in a regard where she's just
so like, angry at the world, butlike, she hates.
Yeah. Or rather Driggett is doing it

(29:40):
for to protect her family and her friends and loved ones and
things like that. Where Hayes is just, like trying
to find a place of protection for herself.
Yes. It's like they're doing the.
Exact same thing for slightly different reasons, but it's all
coming from this place of anger and it's.
I like that you made that comparison because I remember
thinking about when we first metHay.
So I was like, oh, this is very dricket coded.

(30:01):
But yeah, I love it. The innovator drops out of.
Hyperspace into the Arcanis sector and Ram begins piloting
towards Palagosol. Then suddenly there's a hollow
message from Churro the Hut. Lisa calls Ram over and he she
goes, do you know Churro the Hut?
And Ram's like, I have no idea who that is.
So she plays this message and Churro explains how he's been

(30:21):
stranded on Palagosol with Zeni,Kildo, Tep, Tep, Jamil, Jamil
and Welga. Churro mentions that they're
nameless there and this weird girl with a buzz saw mouth and
how Ram should come quickly and oh don't tell my family because
they wouldn't approve K bye. And I deeply love that.
Before he got off, he does a Rhodian peace sign.

(30:44):
He literally was like, I mean, Iwant to know what a Rhodian
peace sign was, but I was like, this is Sarita.
That was just a perfect little yeah detail.
But. Not good though because RAM is
like wait a second, was that an open comment for Cheryl I?
Cringed so badly when I read that.
It's like the same he just. Broadcasted that to anyone and

(31:07):
everyone I the whole family justsaw.
This the Nihil saw it. His family saw it, the name.
I'm sure someone on Planet X probably got it.
I don't like it's everywhere guys.
Not good. No, it's not good.
Oh man, next chapter is a doozy. We're on chapter 19.
We're in the diner on Palligosolagain, and obviously the group

(31:30):
finds out Hayes's Nyhol and sweet, sweet little Jedi
younglings. They're trying to reason with
her. And I'm like, don't, don't
bother. But sweet Tete Tete is like
trying to connect with Hayes in the Force to show empathy and
compassion. And Jamil senses this and
realizes in his attempts to alsoreach out in the Force towards
Hayes that she's in pain. And so it's this moment of him

(31:53):
realizing sort of the the reasonshe's doing this and feeling
that compassion for her. And they try to use this, you
know, to talk to her and convince her not to do this
anymore and that being in pain is not an excuse to hurt others.
But she doesn't want to hear it.Oh, totally.
And I like. Too that they address that these
are younglings who don't know how to use the mind trick yet

(32:15):
it's like they know that it exists but they're they're too
small and inexperienced to do something that what's the word I
want to say advanced yeah and going about trying to convince
Haze to let tep Tep go in a different way.
And definitely the the pain is aas good as they can do in this

(32:36):
situation. And I have a feeling Hazel.
'S not weak minded and she wouldhave been a challenge anyway so
yeah like on top of that they just.
The only hope they have is to convince her with words instead
of with the force. And it's not working.
No, she just. Orders everyone to drop their
weapons and head for her ship. She's like I'm done with this.
But Jamil has this idea to get out of this situation, so he

(32:59):
powers down his lightsaber firstand like try to convince, tries
to convince everyone else to do the same thing.
And then he's like non verbally trying to tell Kildo his plan.
And I just like this idea of where Jamil's just kind of like
giving Kildo these like eyes, head motions and stuff and
trying to be like, I'll sly about it.
But of course, like everyone in the room sees it because they're

(33:19):
younglings. I know in my head I.
Was seeing scenes from, like, Skeleton Crew, how kids, like,
don't really understand that, Like, hey, so your whisper was
heard by the entire, like, that kind of thing.
Absolutely, yeah. So good.
But Kildo. Luckily does understand what
Jamil is trying to say because they both raise their hands and

(33:41):
use the force to grab Haze's Electro staff out of her hands
and Tep Tep is able to bite ontoHaze's arm and break free.
Great, love that tap tap. Ended up biting her.
Me too. Yeah, Kildo.
Like. 4 shoves her into that back storage room.
And I love middle grade's novels.
There's no mystery involved, do you know what I mean?

(34:01):
Like, you immediately get whatever's happening running
next. So Zinni tries to like, look in
the backroom to see if she's knocked out, but it's dark and
Hayes is able to surprise her and bites her on the fucking
arm. I know.
I was like, Oh my God. That's awful, Yeah, having
relooked at a. Picture of that shark thing.
I was like, oh, that's called her.
Yeah, but I wouldn't know how it.

(34:21):
Works. Yeah.
I want to know if it's. Prehensile like I can hold on to
things. Yeah, like.
If it's world, can it like unfurl and wrap around an arm
and bite from all sides? Or like I, I don't know how it
works and I I need to know, but we're not going to get those
answers. OK, but what if it's?
Like a mollusk, right? Don't they have like a, what's

(34:44):
it called? The radula?
Yes. Like where it like scrapes?
Yeah. What does that?
Animal originally eat the helicoprion.
That is. Such a great.
Shark question. I know.
It's like, what would you eat with that?
I mean, I guess you could slap the shit out of some Stingrays
or something possibly. Imagine it just like digging in

(35:06):
this soil. Is there even like a top jaw or
is it just a lower jaw with teeth?
I'm trying to. So they ate soft bodied prey
such as squid, octopus and othercephalopods.
So he should not be. Able to bite off things.
So they did they. Were able to use the tooth whirl
to hook, slice and drag so I think bite maybe just is the

(35:27):
wrong word. Slice would have been more like
accurate but Zuraida is going tobe like what is wrong with you
guys? We know way too.
Much. About.
This. It's true.
Like bamboo sharks, right? They have these teeny, tiny
little jaw, but they do have sharp teeth.
And, like, they can't slice, butit's like these tiny fine lines.

(35:49):
You're like, precious. Yeah.
So they lack upper teeth which is interesting but they use like
the front of the world a snag prey the middle teeth to slice
it and then it push it further into the back part of the mouth
so it goes like. I guess so.
So hands got curved that. Way I will not be commenting.

(36:11):
On that sentence for the best I just I'm going to leave that one
alone for the secret but if you know you know yeah.
Not great for Zenny but welcome manages to stun haze with her
blaster which is great. So they finally hopefully got
her under control and Jamil goeslooking for first aid for Zenny.
But while he's like back there in the storage area he feels

(36:32):
this nudge in the Force. And I love the way he described
it as roots like searching for him and so he knows something is
calling out to him and he knows it's not his friends because he
does a little like over the shoulder look like.
Is that you guys? No, Yeah.
What is the? So he realizes.
Something's underneath him and Iwas like, yes, yay, it's.

(36:53):
Happening, but he. Finds a signal disruptor on the
ground. Yeah, he finds a signal.
Disruptor and he immediately destroys it and then he starts
hearing voices calling out for help, which leads him to finding
this hatch. So he uses his lightsaber to cut
a hole in the Hatch because he sees that the handle is melted
and is no longer able to function.

(37:14):
So he opens it up and out pops ayoung woman who looks a little
familiar and right behind him, Zenny comes up and says Lexie,
their sister, love a reunion. Wow, I didn't see that
happening. I never knew this.
Was all gonna come together. Wait, they're in the same?
Diner. I love it, Yeah.

(37:36):
So one, we got one bright spot before things maybe aren't so
bright. Chapter 20 was another.
Really intense chapter. Yep, it just.
Gets more intense as we go through this book, yeah.
But yeah, chapter 20, we're still in Marl's Good Eats
Palagosol. Zeni is super happy.
She gives Lexi this giant hug, but Lexi's like ow my rib, it's

(37:58):
broken. So Cindy's been really helpful.
She's bringing Lexi and the other some water and Welga
brings Raw Lynn into the diner. So she picked her up and places
her onto the counter and they the group doesn't have that much
supplies and medical supplies tohelp her, but they say that the
innovator is going to be there any moment.
There's going to be supplies going to be fine.
Welga suggests to examine the wound now and that's where they

(38:21):
see that really badly infected wound and the giant grey scab.
And this thing is a lot bigger than my impression was of it
earlier. It's like the side palm and I
mean I. Wasn't sure what Rollin knew
about all this stuff, but we find out in this moment that she
she knows. Like it's not the Nameless, it's
not the Nihil, it's an infectionof some kind.

(38:44):
Even if they don't have, like, super details about it, they
know it's bad. Yeah.
Yeah, Rollin. Refuses anyone to touch it.
Yeah, it's not great. I wonder what that feels like in
the Force. I honestly don't want to.
Think I feel like it's any example come up with would sound
so ridiculous. So I'm just going to abandon
that entire line of thinking so we can move on.

(39:06):
OK, great. So Zinni and Wilga want to go
out or go outside because they've like boarded up the
diner right to try and keep the nameless away from the Jedi
until Ram gets there. And they think their best bet is
if the non force sensitives right, can go distract them and
keep them occupied and maybe even capture them, which is the

(39:27):
point of all of this. So they're this is what they can
do and I'm glad like the Jedi kind of admit defeat on this one
and instead of arguing and beinglike, no, we go together.
It's like, yeah, you guys, you guys could.
Well, suddenly, Welga. Gets a transmission on her com
link she's like Oh my God look this and it's working and it's a

(39:47):
message from churro Hooray churro announces that he fixed
the coms tower and he contacted ram they're like great what a
good guy churro all of a sudden commander guho also gets that
same message on her com link they're like wait a minute did
he send this on the opens channel again sure enough poor

(40:07):
churro the Hut is just sending all these messages being like I
hate my. My family but this is like how I
feel. It's like when you do something
and the intention is so good, but it makes it harder for
whoever yourself or somebody else, and it's like I'm helping.
That's sweet, true. I know, it's so true.

(40:29):
Goodness. Just to make things worse,
Rollin suddenly states that the nameless are coming.
Not good. Not.
Everything have to happen at thesame time.
I don't know. Yeah, so Zenni and Welga.
Head out to draw the nameless away from the Jedi.
And that's when Kildo gives Zenni his light Saber and tells
her may the Force be with you. Oh my God, for cute sake.

(40:52):
I love it so much. I love, love, love it and.
We've talked about this a long time ago, that that is not a
like small thing for a Jedi to do.
Maybe it's different for younglings until you're like a
knight, maybe, you know, but even then you've made the Saber
that is a part of you, right? And it's you're, I'm handing
that to someone else in this measure of trust.

(41:14):
And Zenni knows that this is a big deal as well.
Absolutely. She's.
Still honored by this and knows that she's going to cherish this
moment for the rest of her life. When she said that, I was like.
Her life better be long. Zerida 5 minutes later.
I know I was expecting. Like a chapter away from that
death, no. No, this next part was really

(41:37):
silly. Zenny's asking Marl and Darl for
tips on how to like herd tortoise because she wants to
use those same techniques to herd the nameless.
And of course they're giving hersass.
They're saying that she needs patience and really thick skin.
So he's like, no, what did they actually, what do you guys
actually use to herd the tortels?

(41:58):
And I think, as I can't rememberwhat the difference Marl or Darl
says, they use yokes with chains, which is essentially
just collars, fancy collars. So that's and they just the name
was already have collars on. So it's like perfect cuz they
can use this chain from these yolks and try and hook to the
collars they already have on andthen they can secure the chain

(42:19):
to something else Perfect. It'll work out.
Perfectly, I'm sure, yes. So Nay and Welga head outside,
pick up two chains with the yolks attached to them, and they
wait for the nameless. Outside the door.
They hear something, but it's Churro the Hut.
He's like Slytherin as fast as he can, Angel truly, truly is.

(42:40):
And he's like telling Zenny to get out of the way, but like,
she gets in the way and he plopsdown into her.
They go down in the mud, remember, it's raining,
thunderstorm, etcetera. And he tells Zenny that he's
trying to get away and hurry up because he's leading them away
and to not hurt to not hate me. And he just keeps going.
Yeah, and he's got the A. Over his head.

(43:01):
It's so good. Well, Churro does explain that
the name is attracted to the eggand he's trying to lead them
away from the younglings. And that is when Zenny has an
idea and asked Churro to hand her the egg.
Amazingly, he does. Yeah, handed it right over.
Yeah, no questions. Asked or anything, he's all in.
Yeah, suddenly the nameless. With the metallic modification

(43:23):
steps into view and is running straight for Zenny while
Gunturro began shooting the Nameless with their blasters.
So Zenny takes off running, weaving in and out between the
buildings, leading the Nameless away from the younglings until
she eventually reaches the Main Street.
That's where Zenny turns and faces the Nameless, and she can
like sense that the Nameless is like watching her and

(43:46):
calculating her next move. These animals are creatures.
They're so fascinating to me. I love them so much them.
So much too. They're so cool.
They are I, you know. I will say the thing I find
terrifying about the nameless isnot the like sucking the lifeout
of people. It's the scream that I imagine
they make that for some reason really freaks me out.

(44:09):
Yeah, it's very. Velociraptor in my brain.
I think I'm. On that, because I mentioned
that like last time or somethingabout the egg situation.
And so maybe in my brain I'm just only hearing a velociraptor
scream. And when I was a kid, those were
the scariest things in the world.
I watched Jurassic Parkway too early and it terrified me.

(44:29):
I feel like I had nightmares about the velociraptors for
years after that. Oh, did you really?
Yeah, I was. So small.
Terrible parenting. I won't name names but.
So I think in my. Head I get that primal fear of
velociraptors when I think of the nameless screaming and the
nameless in front of Zenni screams at her.

(44:51):
And so I just feel it in my soul, like that's got to be so
terrifying, especially when it'sdark outside and it's raining
and. But I guess.
So Welga right had stabbed this nameless with the electrosphere
when they were back with Churro or so right now.
Right. Yeah.
So when it catches up. To Denny, she like I think the

(45:13):
electrosphere is either still inits side or she sees the injury
from it as she stabbed. Wilgus sneaks up and stabs it.
Now possible. Unsure of the narration of
things happens at some. Point There was a stabbing.
Yes, nameless involved. Well, and it works out.
Really well for them. Surprise middle grades novel

(45:35):
because not only is this nameless stabbed at some point,
but it's been chasing them really hard and I imagine it now
as a dog that's like heavily panting and too tired to go on
so it just like slumps to the like it's all.
We had to do prior. Did the Jedi just need to like

(45:56):
run until they wear them out? Like what?
I don't know unless it's like the.
Electricity, I mean, the Nile use those.
What are those things called? My brain.
It's just the Electro staff. Yeah, the Nile keep those
Electro staff and they're constantly using them on the
Nile or the nameless. I feel like they're just so
sensitive to electricity. I didn't even think about that.

(46:16):
I was just thinking of it as a. Physical injury, but you're
totally right, it probably shocked the shit out of it and
it's super weak now. That makes a little more sense
than just running a marathon andgetting tired.
But it could be a combination ofboth of them I mean.
Running marathons are exhausting.
Miss me with that. I did like that.
Zenni like. Notices how scared the nameless

(46:39):
is after being electrocuted and how it's like almost remembering
its captivity. And with the Nile and I just,
and she has this moment of sadness for this creature and I
have this moment of sadness for this creature.
I love it. Or like as we continue on, we're
supposed to be like not we're supposed to be in some regards
we're more afraid of the nameless, but also we're

(47:00):
learning to have to be empathetic towards them as well.
Yes, I think we've like constantly.
Felt for the nameless and it's getting worse as it goes on.
So it's like we're feeling even more bad for the Jedi and we're
feeling even more bad for the nameless.
Like these two entities are losing while Markian is winning.
And so it's like, I think both of us just don't view the

(47:21):
nameless as the actual enemy here.
It's just a tool the enemy is using.
Exactly. Well, Zenni and Welga.
Get this chain around the nameless collar, yoke, whatever,
and they are able to drag it over to, I guess like the Main
Street has like all these spots like these hitches.
So they just like connect the nameless to that.

(47:43):
Stay, sit, stay, stay there. And they're like.
We're great, so. We've got another nameless out
there, right? And so algo's like, OK, my turn,
I'll tap in, give me the egg, I'll go find the other Nameless
and we'll do this entire thing over again and it's all going to
work out, right? Wrong.
Immediate wrong. Because Nameless was watching.

(48:05):
Yeah, he was. Stalking them from the rooftop.
Yikes. Don't like that at all.
And it jumps. On Welga and immediately starts
attacking this group and Zenny screams at it and it's like OK
your turn and goes right for herinstead.
Yeah, Zenny somehow is able to dodge.
This powers on Kildo's lightsaber, and this distract

(48:27):
distracts the heck out of the Nameless.
And the Nameless kind of remembers Zenny from earlier
when Zenny stabbed her or helpedinjure the Nameless earlier.
But anyways, Nameless is distracted, so Welga's able to
get the chain around this nameless and is now holding it
firmly in place or so. Yeah, so Rollin, kind of.

(48:48):
Ruins this. What is Rollin doing?
No because all of a sudden they're screaming and they see
her crawling out of the diner. Girl what?
I'm so confused. I knew what?
Was happening, I just hated it. Because obviously this nameless,
they just chained up. It hasn't been running around,
it hasn't been stabbed. It's at full strength, right It

(49:08):
yeah, it takes off for Rawlin and Welga can't hold on to it.
Yeah, so. This is not.
Great Churro, our little hero stands in front of Rawlin and
fires. But it's it's no use.
Like at this point we know what's coming and the nameless
jumps on Rawlin and fucking eats.
Yep, terrible. This close up view of the

(49:32):
effects of the nameless on a Jedi and watches the whole slow
turn to dust and the face frozenin a scream while also looking
like she's drowning and trying to take a breath of air.
It's just so horrific. Again, these are children, I
feel. So bad for everyone in this.
Moment even Welga too because they're all just kind of like
staring at this situation just like there's nothing you can do

(49:56):
to say Raul in the nameless theycan see that it's becoming
stronger and more but Welga jumps in wraps the chain around
the neck tries to pull the nameless away but the nameless
is much stronger now and Welga is not enough to handle this
nameless so like Zenni Hopsin and they're not enough to handle

(50:16):
the nameless and thank goodness churros around because he's able
to use his hot body as an anchorpoint the power of many yes
exactly yeah, they managed to get that nameless.
Away from the diner and tie it to a opposed.
They're trying to keep it as faraway from all the Jedi right as
they possibly can, even though they're still pretty close.

(50:37):
Might be feeling the effects andZenni goes to where Roland was.
Hate it. Hate, hate, hate.
And she notices something. Odd.
Which is that the ground beneathwhere she had been is turning
Gray, just like her scab. Yes, and it's not like the dusty
Gray. It's like calcified, like I'm
thinking like pumice stone. Yes, that is the perfect way.

(51:01):
To describe what I think it probably looks like, yeah, yeah,
not good because. She also.
Realizes it's it's spreading. It's spreading guys.
Well, if it wasn't on palgal cell before, is.
Certainly here now, yeah, they are like, OK.
So this thing is not good. It's time to go.
So Welga goes to get the others. And thank goodness.

(51:23):
Perfect timing. The innovator comes in for a
landing. Innovators here.
Yeah, thank. Goodness, were you nervous at
all that they were? Like coming in and stirring shit
up and Zenni was gonna get like a gust of blight to the face.
That was my thought. The blight, just like.
Flings off the mud into. Yeah, just goes into her eye.
Yeah. It's like, well.

(51:44):
Goodbye. Thankfully, that is.
Not what? But yes, I could totally see
that happening. We already lost someone this
chapter, so they. They decided to go easy on us.
I appreciate that. Thanks, Zareta.
Well, we. Move on.
We're Chapter 21 in hyperspace aboard the Innovator, so we jump
really quickly. We find out quickly that Hayes

(52:04):
is still, but she is pissed. She knows she is a survivor and
a fighter and she's going to getout of there, but she hates
being a prisoner aboard this ship and her whole like single
focus is on getting out. Yep.
I guess she and the Nameless areheld in this contamination pod
since the Innovator doesn't havea Brig like most other ships do.

(52:25):
They're a research and the medical ship, so they just have
contamination pods instead. About Zenni and Lexi walk in and
they're offering Hayes to give back her Stingray her Stingray
plushie in exchange for some information about the Nile.
Of course this doesn't work and Hayes ignores them, but they
throw in the plushie anyway and walk out.

(52:45):
And that's when the teeth come into play again and Hayes tries
to saw her way. The image in my brain is so.
Weird, just like I'm not going to impersonate at all because
that's terrible, but like just using her mouth as a saw against
I'm assuming metal or something I don't know who knows, but

(53:09):
still I. Can't remember.
Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I'm assuming she. Wouldn't.
Do this unless she was pretty confident that that was going to
work. Yes.
Well, meanwhile, everyone. Gathers around in this meeting
room to share a moment of silence for Master Caro and
Rawlin. They then begin to talk about

(53:29):
Palakosol and how it's no longersafe because of the spread of
this weird calcification pumice stone infection.
And I like that someone suggeststhat maybe Rawlin was running
away because she knew that she was infected.
Yeah, rather than running away for no reason and being
confusing and annoying. Yeah, of course they don't talk

(53:50):
talk about they don't know what the blight is, but they name
Drop Wreath Silas, who not only knows about the blight, but is
leading the research on the white.
Wow. Love, love, love, love.
Can't wait to hear more. Yes.
Please give us more, yeah. They talk about what to do with
Hayes and then he's worried. About they need more restraints,
but Ram's like no, no, no, we'refine.

(54:11):
Got a mouth guard made out of Frick.
There's like a constant hollow monitor.
It's going to be fine. Yeah, big sigh on that one.
When RAM also addressed this is Churro, which is nice and Churro
does admit at this point I was on a mission that I didn't even
wanna do from my family. I had no idea what the Nameless
could do before all of this. And Ram brings up the fact that

(54:33):
they all know that he freed the people on -3 and so he played
such this big role without really understanding the impact
of it. And he also fixed the comms
tower so that they could call for help.
So it's sort of this olive branch of like, your debt is
paid in terms of you doing wrong.
It's like you did enough right that it's OK to make up for it.

(54:56):
And they offer him passage to now Hutta once they get to
Coruscant. That's so sweet.
It is, but he seems. Like afraid.
Yeah, because the huts don't like.
Any of the things that he just did, and he knows that they're
going to be so mad at him and hereally wants their approval, but
he wants to be himself. So he's like constantly warring
back and forth between what's right and what's wrong and

(55:18):
what's right by his family and what's wrong by his family.
It's really tough. And he's like, maybe churros,
like, maybe he'll never go home. But that's when the lights turn
red and we find out that Hayes has escaped the containment pod
who was watching. Who was watching?
The security feed I need names because.

(55:39):
Someone did a. Piss poor job of it.
Chapter 22. We're still aboard the
Innovator, and Hayes is like, super smug because no one, I
guess, really understands the extent to which the Helicos can,
like, do this kind of thing, like cutting through just about
anything. I guess they have cousins, which
is the Carcarodon. Yeah.

(56:01):
Love, love, love shark. References forever.
And their cousins don't have teeth that can do that.
So she's like, they all think I can't, but I just did.
Mm hmm. It's so cool, so.
Cool, yeah. Well, that ends that.
With the coolness because she does some not cool things like
she then decides to like I'm going to take advantage of the
situation and steal back the eggand make a name amongst the

(56:25):
Nile. It'll be great.
The nameless totally aren't going to do anything to me.
So she does this, grabs that nameless egg and and then she's
like, oh, I'm going to free the nameless and they're going to go
run amok and eat Jedi. It's fine.
Yeah, I guess she has been hanging around Nib, right?
And she's. Seen these experiments or at
least part of them, but she's really not observant.

(56:45):
She has zero animal behavior observational skills.
I die. Someone needed a certification
and did. Not get it?
Yeah, got way. Overconfident.
On this one, and regardless of what the actual nameless are
going to do, as she's going towards the escape, the egg
starts hatching. This is also very velociraptor.

(57:08):
Because like, that's the animal that you like.
I love that. I hope this was on purpose.
I'm not sure if it was or not, but maybe I'm just pointing out
the obvious and Zoraida totally meant for it to reflect that
whole story. But I just loved this.
I did too, because it's just I remember watching.
In that scene, I too was a very young girl when I watched
Jurassic Park for the first timeand I remember that Velociraptor

(57:29):
hatching and I was like, these are the cutest things.
I was the weirdo that was like scary monsters.
I love it. I know.
It's so funny. Like I was not, but I.
Got there. I don't know if my brain was
like, bitch, you're gonna have to accept this.
You're gonna have to accept, or else you're gonna be.
Traumatized. Joke's on you, I got that
anyway. It just wasn't for them from the
horror movies, but at some point.

(57:51):
My brain was like, you gotta start.
Enjoying this man that's your only option so I love that you
were just like out of the womb. Give it to me horror.
These poor animals just need a. Sufficient habitat and food
source. It's not that hard guys.
The welfare has. Not been great.
I get their frustration and she's like and starts to leave

(58:12):
and she notices the air looks weird it like almost looks
glitter and she thinks it's the baby nameless like doing
something but then she realizes her jaw won't unfurl.
Her mind is starting to get a little foggy and the.
Nameless are also. Following behind, Yeah, the
nameless came back for the little.
Baby Nameless. Yeah, she Hayes then.

(58:36):
Realizes her mistake. Yeah, the the weird metallic
modifying Nameless like brushes up against Hayes and she
stumbles to her knees and Hayes is realizing that she's being
affected by these Nameless, justhow the Jedi are being affected,
and she starts to freak out. Also.
I'm freaking out. I freaked out.

(58:56):
What? This is the first time.
We've seen a non. Force user get this effect from
the nameless right? I'm trying to like rack my brain
but. Yes, I think this is the first
time I know and I just can't. And the baby's.
Growing bigger and bigger on hershoulder too, as it literally is
eating her. And she I mean, she realizes

(59:16):
what's happening now but it's too late.
Like there's nothing to be done. But she just doesn't understand
how it's possible that this is happening.
She does think about Nif, Dren, Dow and.
Wonders what the heck he did to make these animals so much more
effective. Girl same.
I also. Wonder that, yes, but that
thought. Goes away very quickly as she

(59:37):
begins to scream. Damn sorry Hayes.
Sorry, not sorry. I had high hopes for you, but.
Then you went and stole a nameless.
And it all went downhill from there.
You're done, fucked up and. Everyone upstairs was watching
this somebody. Finally was watching the
security. Feed on whoever did it before.
And so they're like, my God, thenameless are.

(01:00:00):
Free we need to lock down the lower levels like as much as we
can until we get help and like get to Coruscant and so the red
lights were going on that's why they finally.
Went and looked at the Halo feed.
Oh my God I totally forgot they weren't even.
Like watching it in the first, no, they're like, oh, what's
happening? And they go.
And that's right. Thank God for the alarm.

(01:00:21):
System. What if it wasn't working?
What if the batteries that have run out guys?
No, it's OK. RAM is like.
OCD about fixing all the things. Thanks goodness.
Like 90%. Fixed.
Yeah, he's still got like a little couple.
Things to do before they can like, really seal off the lower
levels. So they the RDC sends a group to

(01:00:43):
make sure that the nameless stayas far down there as possible
until RAM can get that. Yeah, I like that.
Tep Tep suggests talking to the Nameless and of course everyone
disagrees with her. But this is important for later,
especially because Tep Tep is watching the Nameless as they're
interacting with each other and with Haze.
This is of course but pre Haze being eaten Spoiler.

(01:01:06):
And it makes me wonder what Tep Tep is looking for, because
obviously as she's watching the Hollow Monitor, she's actually
seeing the Nameless for what they really are, as opposed to
the perception, the distorted perception she gets when the
Nameless are being are affectingher.
Yeah, but. Anyway, so they finally get to
the. Part where Hayes falls and she

(01:01:26):
is then succumbed to the effectsof the nameless just like a
force user and now everyone's confused and not.
Just us. Yeah, this is not good.
I do love the tap, tap, but we've kind of talked about this
intermittently or even forever ago.
I think we're like, oh, tap, tap, we'll do it.
It's fine. She can just control the
nameless. And it's great.
And I love that this is now starting to come to fruition.

(01:01:49):
And in terms of how Tep Tep is thinking about it.
So yeah, well, they're freaking out.
They're trying to come up with anew plan.
They're like, we got to get these nameless out of here.
Like if they can affect haze, they can, they can eat and
affect anyone, like just eat them out into space.
But there are many ideas, many ideas thrown out.
Nameless included. So they end up with this plan to

(01:02:12):
guide the nameless into the escape pods and then kind of tow
them behind the ship so it's nottouching anything.
They're just, it's gonna like, hover in the tractor beam.
Whatever. Great idea.
But then Churro begins shouting no over and over again.
They all watch in horror as Hazeturns to dust.
Then the door opens and tap tap walks into the containment pod.

(01:02:35):
My heart fell out through my. Butt Rachel.
But at the same time, I'm like, yeah, tap, tap, go.
You've got this I want. Like deep down I want to believe
this is. Going to work but I just had
that spike of fear of like we'regonna we're gonna lose tap tap
to this and my heart was not ready yeah I love both so much I
feel. Like if I was a Jedi, I'd be

(01:02:56):
very like depth, depth. Like I, both of us feel very
connected to TEP. Depth.
She's got to be a cancer. Like sorry, yeah.
Loves animals. Like intuitive, Yeah.
Connects with animals like that's.
Like the thing and I feel like she's very empathetic and like
emotional and stuff. Cancers for life.
Yeah, So thankfully, we are going to find out immediately

(01:03:19):
what's happening because when wego to Chapter 23, we're there
with tap, tap. And this chapter even further
solidified, I think probably us feeling connected to her because
she's like, I don't really believe that any creature is
really evil, no matter how scarythey look or how weird they are.
And she knew that if she stayed upstairs, all of her Jedi

(01:03:41):
friends, who are all courageous were going to argue over who
could bait the nameless into containment.
And she just decided it was her turn to save everyone.
And she made the choice for everyone.
I love it. Brave girl.
She's so brave, Tep. Tep opens the doors to the
containment pods. She quickly realizes she's too
late to save Hayes. So we find out that she had left

(01:04:02):
before Hayes turned to dust, so now she knows Tep.
Tep begins to sense the nameless, but the fear isn't
this as intense this time, so she's wondering about why that
is. So she up ends up pushing out
feelings of warmth and understanding through the forest
and she's like sending this out to the nameless.
She then tells them hello and please don't hurt me.

(01:04:27):
And I yeah, the nameless. Hesitate.
It's. Crazy they hurt her.
Right. Yeah, and they.
Respond like. Sri Karai or Sri Sri Sri or
something like that and I was like what is happening?
They trying to communicate back. One like she I guess, had this
sort of light bulb. Moment of instead of trying to

(01:04:47):
connect to the force to connect to them, I'm just going to
connect directly nameless because.
They're not of the force. Like she can't do it the same
way she does other animals. And I'm like.
What? Yeah, and the.
Next Part 2 Tip Tip. Decides to ask them where
they're from. What a question to ask a genius

(01:05:08):
it truly is. Unfortunately though.
Immediately feels pain and senses the fading stars of
hyperspace and she's like throwninto this very distorted like
mindset. So she's really not like quite
there or aware of her surroundings.
I don't quite think it's the same effect as like the fear of

(01:05:29):
the nameless. I think she's just disoriented.
Yeah. Because they, I mean they are
affecting. Her differently and I want to
know why and I but I did like that we got a description of how
I thought that was cool me too well unfortunately or.
Fortunately, the doors behind her open.
Tep Tep feels hands pull her back to the safety of the other
side of the doors. Once this happens, the Nameless

(01:05:50):
immediately attack, but the dooris shut and while Tep Tep is
still out of it, she is safe knowing that she did everything
that was best for not only her friends, but also the nameless
stuff. I'm like, I hope this isn't the.
End of this thread. You know what I mean?
I I want to come back to this. Yeah, I hope.

(01:06:11):
We see this go. Further plot wise because I I
love this aspect of thinking of someone being able to connect
with them like that because it'salso wreath that is.
Researching the nameless, Right. So he's researching the blight
and the nameless? Or am I thinking of two
different people? Yeah, because he he was
researching the nameless. And then I'm assuming got put in
charge of the blight situation. But at this point I feel like he

(01:06:33):
is so knowledgeable on the nameless and I want him and Tut
tut to talk. Me too.
Maybe next book we'll see poor Ram.
He's seeing on the security feedall of this happening, freaking
out, trying not to panic, though, because he's supposed to
be a leader at the ripe old age of barely anything.
And he goes to the temperature control panels because he has

(01:06:54):
this idea, and tells V 18 to be ready to seal the containment
doors as soon as they've got tech tech.
And Ram starts programming this new sequence into the panels
because he has a feeling he can slow the nameless down by
freezing them just like you would a virus.
It's a great. Idea animals slow down in very

(01:07:16):
cold environments Yeah, I was like this is accurate.
This is a. Great idea.
And he sees tap tap and get pulled out.
The doors are sealed and freezing agents start pouring
from the ceiling into the room. They.
I feel like I'm trying to remember.
Sorry. Oh, I got.

(01:07:37):
It OK, sorry I had. To get where I was going.
So yeah, when you're talking andyour brain.
Just kind of like goes another direction and I also jumped.
Forward like 4 sentences and waslike why are you doing that?
You know this is not right, so he sees tap.
Tap get pulled out on the. Security feed.
The doors are sealed and he starts pouring freezing agent

(01:07:58):
from the ceiling into the room and the nameless you start to
slow. Kinda.
It's like kinda kinda. Works.
They're still like. Moving around, they're like.
Oh, I hate this. Like, let me get out of here.
Yeah, yeah. But they do.
This little game, it reminded meof the Rath Tars and Force
Awakens, where they start unsealing and sealing doors just

(01:08:18):
sort of like guide them a very specific way, which I thought
was really fun. So yeah, they're like remotely
corralling them towards the escape pod.
Totally it. Works except for when they get
to like the the last stage of the escape pods and the nameless
hesitate Ram's like, no, they need to get into the escape
pods. This isn't working.

(01:08:39):
And he starts to figure out trying to I think of like other
ways to like entice the namelessin there or like that.
He like begins thinking about maybe anesthetizing them,
although if you anesthetize them, they're just going to fall
on the floor. So I don't know why his brain
was that way. Whatever.
So what they ended up doing is along the lines of anesthesia is

(01:08:59):
to since well, apparently they are out of anesthesia so that
wouldn't have worked anyways. But Chiro comes up with the idea
to throw like, all of these decontaminants at them, and that
will get them sleepy. Okay, They do that and I guess
it works. The name of us are sleepy.
And they all go into their escape pods.
Hooray. Yeah.
I have a feeling they were like ooh.

(01:09:20):
What is that? And just like they're basically
trying to escape whatever is making them feel off and run
into the escape pods. That's fair.
That's fair, I love my brain waslike.
They just mixed. Ammonia and bleach together,
that makes like, mustard gas, right?
What does that mean? Something like that?
Yes. And yeah, they're sealed.
Inside just. In time right, because they end

(01:09:41):
of the chapter by exiting hyperspace.
Oh my God, I can't. This goes back to our.
Like a nameless on Coruscant adventure like Horror Story.
That would be so terrifying one I I'm having trouble kind of
picturing. Where this lines up with
temptation of the four, I'm thinking this is before
temptations. Of the force.
OK, that's what I figured because I was like huh?

(01:10:02):
But. Then I wonder when Marky on does
eventually come, are there already other nameless?
Are these the same ones that eventually confront the Jedi in
temptation of the force? So these nameless are in the
containment. Pods and then the nameless with
marky on die. So I want to say.
I mean they didn't talk about nameless being in containment

(01:10:23):
pods but that doesn't mean they aren't there.
I feel like the Blight being on Coruscant is such a big marker
event and if the fact that they haven't mentioned it, yeah is
very odd to me. But then.
Markian is. Too nameless with him when?
He comes to Coruscant, they makehim put him them back in the
ship. Oh, that's right.

(01:10:45):
That's. Right.
And I'm like. Did he grab?
These nameless off court like did he find out they were being
contained and somehow convince someone like I will help you or
I'll come have a meeting with you, but you have to release
these nameless like I'm curious to see how these two nameless
being trapped in Coruscant mightcoincide with eventually Marky

(01:11:06):
on coming and releasing the blight.
I'm just curious about that. But yeah, totally.
Because I even feel like. The nameless being held in
containment pods orbiting Coruscant is enough of event in
itself that like the senator or not Senator Counsellor Lena so
would know about this and like wouldn't also then Gareth

(01:11:29):
Starros know about that and tellthat to mark you on and wouldn't
mark you on be pissed. So like there's I'm confused.
I know there's like gaps where we don't.
Know quite how this lines up in the timeline so I'm kind of
hoping the next book will clarify a little bit where we're
at because I, I want to see how these different stories are
lining up. Yeah, me too.

(01:11:51):
Yeah, well. Yeah, final.
Chapter, right? Final chapter.
We're in the Jedi. Temple on croissant, yay.
But also no, because Jamil, Kildo, Ram, Churro and Zenni are
all huddled around Tap Tap in the recovery wing.
So she's been out of it. She hasn't woken up yet, so
they're all very concerned abouther and I guess a Jedi walks in

(01:12:13):
and tells them that they need toleave so Tap Tap can get some
sleep. So they all start to turn and
walk away, but then Jamil feels the tendrils again and they
actually have Tup Tup waking up right then and there and all the
kids are so excited. So cute.
I know, I love it. A little bit of joy for the
last. Chapter Yeah, I also love that

(01:12:35):
these kids. Are like the.
Nameless or the Council's problem now it's like that is
the correct attitude to have. 100% they do still.
Have to do their dumb. Reports.
They're not dumb, they're valuable, but God, there's so
many meetings. So they still have to go give
their account of what happened essentially to the council.
Yeah, later and apparently tepped up is better.

(01:12:56):
Or feeling good enough to go with.
I was like, is she now? I know I was like OK that seems
not. Good.
But I guess she's fine. Yeah, they have to go to the
Jedi. Council chambers and all of the
Jedi Masters are there. Of course there's Grandmaster
Yoda, Master Rancissus, Senator Gray Lark, Jedi Knights Sul Nath

(01:13:18):
Roon, and Lissa Bots. There's Lexi, Gray Lark and
Welga. And a bunch of packethibs.
OK, I had forgotten about packethibs and how they were
like the beginning, in the beginning of the story for those
elephants, sentient species, humanoid be.
Yep, I had to stop because I knew.
We had seen them before but I couldn't remember the context

(01:13:39):
and isn't like the one that endsup speaking out.
Are they like a mayor or like something of Minos 3?
I believe so. I think they kind of.
Like own that area. That's what I was thinking.
Control rule. Very Palpatine.
I love it. So yes, meetings upon meetings.

(01:14:01):
Ram tells his side of the story.Ishers the pack athips leader
which is Lord Salk. Nov November.
No, no, no, if Drenda will no longer bother him and Churro the
Hut rescued the hostages. Lord Salk is very appreciative

(01:14:21):
and he and all the packet that'sleave great, that's loose end is
tied and moving on. No, they were just like, yeah,
we don't need to be here. For the rest of this week.
Love that. Yep.
And yeah, I guess the rest of the gang.
Sorry, no, go ahead the rest of the game.
Gives accounts of what? Happened including Churro.
I'm sure Churro. If I was Churro, I would be

(01:14:42):
peeing my pants a little bit. Being in this, like, grand Jedi,
like council as a Hut and as a kid.
And I just bet it's very intimidating.
So I'm very proud of him for doing this.
Me too. Yeah.
Did you say the group? Tells their side of the story.
I can't remember. Yeah.
OK, perfect. So it's great.
And the Council asks Jamil if he's interested in becoming a

(01:15:05):
Padawan. Oh my God, I was so excited for
him. Me too.
So he says the. Correct answer of no.
Amazing. I was so shocked by that.
And he tells. Them that he still has a lot to
learn and you know that's fair. I love that it's like this whole
journey for. Him in this book, I thought it
was moving towards accepting that it was OK, that he just

(01:15:25):
took a longer route to get there, which he is accepting.
But I thought that meant that atthe end of the book, he was
going to get this promotion and he was going to take it.
And I liked that. Instead he was like, no, no,
that journey I'm on is not over yet.
I still have more to do before Ican reach that end of being a
Padawan. And I, I loved that.

(01:15:46):
How different it truly is from. Make me master now.
Yeah. I see.
It's like, it's outrageous. It's unfair.
That was so good. He sounds nothing like that, but
I. Think I got the line right, at
least. I need slightly higher pitch, I
think. I'm sorry, hating Christians and
I cannot do impersonations at all.

(01:16:06):
But I, I just liked that this era, we've talked about it
before, is just so different in terms of attitude of the Jedi.
Yeah, they all seem to have their own.
Paths and there's not one like, oh, by age 5 you have to be a
Padawan and by 12 you have to bea Jedi Knight.
It's just like more of like, choose your own adventure, do

(01:16:26):
what's right for you. Listen to the force.
It's so good. Choose your own adventures.
The perfect. Way to describe this era.
I love it, but yeah, we. Move on to three days later.
Apparently, Churro has been hanging out with, OK, I really
skipped my brain is like, not functioning today.
We moved to three days later, and apparently Zenni can't

(01:16:49):
sleep. And one of the things that she
does when she can't sleep is to go into her father's study.
And he's still missing. So I would imagine she still
really misses him. So, like, goes there to get
comfort. Zenni's really struggling to
return to her normal life and really does and really doesn't
know what that means and what that is anymore.
And I guess there's this family shrine in this study that has

(01:17:10):
all of these candid family photos and like trinkets that
have like no, like financial value but have a ton of
sentimental value. I love that.
I love it too. She adds the sabak.
Card a lucky Sabak card to the trinket pile.
And of course, Lexi walks into the study.
She too is having trouble sleeping.
And then their mother walks in, who's also having trouble

(01:17:33):
sleeping. So it's I love this.
Everyone's got insomnia. But they all had the exact same
plan in mind of what they were going to do at their time.
And I, I just love that. It's so good.
Yeah, they're. Huddling on the sofa and
talking, Lexi asks Zenni about Churro, which is where we find
out that he's been staying at 3rd place and Zenni has been

(01:17:53):
tour guide for Churro, showing him around Coruscant.
And I guess Senator Gray Lark tells Zenni.
I can't remember Senator Gray Lark's name.
They don't actually name her real name Like her.
Her first name I remember being it last time.
I made a mistake. Yeah, like this whole section.
I feel like they never said her first name and you could not

(01:18:15):
torture it out of me right now. I'm going to be so for real.
It's gone forever. Senator Gray Lark.
OK, great. So Senator Gray Lark.
Tells Zenni that Churro's sisterDahara finally messaged back.
So Dahara is coming to Corsont tomorrow night to pick up
Churro. Zenni's a little sad.
Yeah, I feel like Churro is at. This very weird crossroads now

(01:18:40):
and everything he's just experienced is making him
rethink everything. And so I knew once we got to the
point that Dahara finally arrives, it was going to be this
really weird moment for him of like, what am I going to do and
what's she going to say? Yep.
And so the next day when she arrives, for one, she's got a
new septum ring, which I'm obsessed, obsessed Dahara.

(01:19:02):
More importantly, Churro is super nervous because he knows
that from their point of view, he failed her and so he tells
her about the creatures and how they hurt the force and how he
was scared that eventually they were going to come.
For now, Huda and Dahara tells Churro.
You know what? Don't worry about the family,
you're not coming back home. Oh my God I felt so bad for

(01:19:23):
Churro. Wow, yeah.
His family. Didn't even give him a second
chance. No, they and they don't like
declare him. Dead, but they essentially are
like, oh, he's missing. Yeah, Chiro is.
Devastated he's like, Oh my parents and all my things and
Dahara's like don't worry about it and she I love this part

(01:19:46):
where Dahara so they're talking back and forth and hotties,
right and she switches to basic and churro has never heard her
speak basic didn't even know that she spoke it and Tahara
tells churro that she's oh did Iskip a bunch again?
I think I did. Did you?
I only have like. 4 sentences left.

(01:20:10):
It was up, Tahara. 'S giving him the scarlet.
Scorn and enough credits to do whatever he wants.
And then that's when Dahara switches to Basic and tells him
to take this opportunity and never look back.
And Dahara just leaves. I loved this.
That's not how I thought that was gonna.
Go yeah, me too. I'm.
Really curious about Dahara and her history with the family and

(01:20:33):
her perspective. Yeah.
And the fact that she, I. Thought what was going to happen
is she was he was going to be excommunicated or whatever.
Like that part wasn't surprisingto me.
It was her reaction and what shetells him that was surprising.
I thought she was going to be very Hut style and just be like
you've shamed your family dishonor on your couch and
instead she was like this is your chance to be the churro

(01:20:56):
that I know you want to be. And it was almost like she was
happy for him that he kind of escaped this life that she knew
he wasn't meant for. Oh, totally.
It was really. Heartwarming.
Yeah, and it makes. Me wonder if Tahara.
Herself doesn't really like the family business too like
especially like talking and basic is such a statement she

(01:21:18):
gets his perspective Well yeah and when he's like all hurt
because his. Parents don't want him.
She's like, do you want them? And it's like, I wonder if
that's also coming from a place of she doesn't really want this
either, and she's happy that oneof them gets this chance.
Yeah, poor Churro. But yeah, so.

(01:21:39):
Churro talks this over with Zenni and Churro talks about how
he feels so alone, but Zenni reassures Churro that he's still
got her and the younglings. Zenni will teach him how to
navigate his new ship, and they end up naming the ship the Lucky
Tortol, which is a fantastic name.
I love it. So good.
It's so good. And yeah, we finished the.

(01:22:01):
Book with Churro begins to have hope and see a bright future
full of endless opportunities. What a perfect ending.
It's a perfect ending. It was wonderful.
For a very intense. Sometimes dark book.
There was so much hope and joy to be found in it.
Totally, yeah. And I liked.

(01:22:21):
Like. So at the.
Beginning of the book we had, you know, the three main loose
ends which were Jamil not knowing are upset about not
being a padawan and Churro beingupset that he is like with his
family and he likes bugs and they don't.
And then Zenni not feeling connected to her family and

(01:22:45):
wondering where her sister is. And all three of them were able
to get closure. It's so beautiful.
It was finally. Yeah, we don't.
Always get bows. Tied.
So it was, it was nice. Yeah, totally.
Love to this. I am excited to move on to the
next thing but also sad to leavethis behind.

(01:23:06):
I love this gang. Was there.
Anything in this book? That you had.
Expected or wanted to see and didn't get a chance to see.
I think I did. Think we would get more Niv
Trindow because he played such aprominent kind of role in on
Valo. And so I think I, I thought he
would be more in it, Yeah, but that.

(01:23:28):
It wasn't so much. Disappointing as it just makes
me curious why, what he's up to,what he's doing.
So I think that was the only thing that I was like, huh,
that's not what I thought would happen.
What about you? Yeah, I didn't expect the whole
Palagosol thing. I totally.
Thought they were going to go to-3 and things were going to
happen there, but we're just kind of like -3 And then here's
Palagosol. And I was like, what?
OK, so it's a very interesting planet.

(01:23:51):
And I like how, like things werehappening on both and that the
team kind of separated. I was totally stunned that we
had so deaths in this book, especially like major character
deaths. Yeah, two Jedi in front.
Of the children. Uh huh.
I continue to be. Concerned for their.
Psyche. Yeah, it was.

(01:24:12):
Good. It was.
I loved it. I can't wait to see.
What's coming next? I think our next book is Tears
of the Nameless, right? Yes, by George Mann.
And that's young adult. Love it.
Yeah, I just looking at the cover gets me hyped because it's
our boy wreath, right? I've got it right behind me.
I have been wondering what he's up to.

(01:24:33):
I feel like. There are so many characters
that we knew so well in phase one that like have been taken a
back burner yes, you know 100% we.
Haven't seen. Wreath.
For a minute, besides little mentions and name drops and I'm
like, no, no, no, no, I need thebook.
And the book is here. We are going to it.

(01:24:55):
So I know both of us, they're very excited about this one.
And I always loved George Mann. He's a good writer.
