Beware the Nameless: Ch. 8-14

Palagosal gets wild really quick when we learn of a solo Nihil on her own mission to make daddy Marchion proud. Best wishes with that.

Meanwhile, our gang heads to Tortle Cove Outpost, but along the way they run into the ultimate nightmare; a pair of Nameless. With the Jedi under attack, our three non-force users will have to step up and save the day. And Churo the Hutt will realize their own mission may be more dangerous than he ever thought possible.

We meet a bunker conspiracy theorist and his very patient wife, an RDC commander, a lost sister of Coruscant, and a Jedi who is running out of time to escape their prison. But with no way out, supplies dwindling and the Jedi's condition declining, hope feels lost for this crew. But as we know, the Force has a way of bringing people together just when they need it. If only our solo Nihil friend wouldn't ruin things.

It's our second installment. This is chapters 8 through 14.
But I guess before we go deep dive into the next couple of
chapters, let's talk about what we do.

And we are currently in phase three of the High Republic, the
the final phase. Of the final phase, yes.

about. It's insane.
I know I was looking at the listand it's like we're maybe 1/3.
Well, when you put it like that.What but also like?
People like, exactly. People can rely on us when
they're mourning the end of the High Republic.

There's one Star Wars news. Everybody gets to see my wall.
Well, one that I have was unfortunately and fortunately,
issue 5 of The Rise of the Skywalker was the last and final
issue of the series. I'm so sad that it's over.
But also that last issue was unbelievable.
One of my favorite images was the image of Ray being

surrounded by all of the force ghosts of the Jedi.
I lost it. So amazing.
I did too. I started crying.
Oh yeah. And like, I know there's so many
people who are like, why didn't way you get this in the movie?
And I'm like, listen, guys, I'm not saying that wouldn't have
been the coolest. I just had that picture in my
brain because if they're speaking, they're obviously
there. So like, to me, 100% that's what

it looked like in my brain, regardless of what we saw on
screen. So it was interesting to me to
see people being like, Oh my God, amazing.
And I'm like, well, yeah, that'swhat happened.
Totally I. Don't know, maybe they couldn't
convince Samuel L Jackson to come be a forest ghost.
I don't know. Like, there's a million reasons
that could have been the case. I don't know what it was, but

I'm glad we got it in the comic.It was amazing and wonderful and
there were so many panels that Iwas like, oh, I guess I just cry
through this entire thing. Totally.
Yeah. And our friend Dylan pointed out
that one of the shadowy figures in the background is holding a
Blue Cross guard lightsaber and it's like Stellan.
Dylan, you absolute genius, I would have completely just

missed that. If I had totally.
Him pointed out. And I was like, Oh my God, it's
totally stolen. And then I cried again.
So. Yeah, I know.
Really great. So we've got confirmation that
Stellan is a forced for I keep saying forced.
What am I saying? He's a forced ghost.
He like totally forced ghosts upon us, and we're OK with it.

Oh. Lord, the other big Star Wars
news is that in two days from now, which it'll be post record
once we release the recording, but two days from when we're
currently recording, the last ofthe High Republic, like adult
novels is coming out, I think. Is there anything after that?
Are there comics after that too?I.

That's. What I was thinking, but this is
the last of the novels, which isTrials of the Jedi and I, I just
can't believe it's happening. I can't.
Either I. Know it's.
Insane. It is what a amazing like
journey and even though it's obviously not over for us yet,
obviously all over socials, it'speople talking about it or like

even the authors are like havingtheir like, you know, roundup of
this is the end things. And so we are still mourning it.
I promise. We just are going to get to
enjoy it later on so. Totally.
But it's odd that after all thistime, it's like coming to an
end. But I did like that interview
that I know you read to where there was like, this isn't the

end. We'll see, you know, it's coming
up. And I was like.
Yes, I'm so curious what that means.
I'm wondering if like it's goingto be a whole new like phase
thing like they've done for thisHigher Republic, or if it's just
going to be more like books justlike adjacent to the Higher
Republic but set in the same realm.
You know what I mean? Kind of like how they done with
Justina Irelande waste Seeker. Yeah, I guess we'll find out.

Yeah, I'll take pretty much anything, but I kind of like the
thought of them teasing it this way as if it's coming into
visual media. Cuz I know, cuz obviously we're
a print media podcast. Like I'm all for print media.
I do want to see the visual sideof Star Wars support the High
Republic more. Absolutely.
We. Didn't do a great job of that
with the acolyte was supporting it.

So if we could get any other attempts to show like Lucasfilm,
hey, we do want the high Republican visual media too.
I think that would be awesome. That would be so great.

What other start did you have? Other Star Wars news?

I have a silly Star Wars news. So I've had so many people kind
of like threaten me at gunpoint practically to watch the White
Lotus and they're just like, what's wrong with you for not
watching this show? I was like, OK, well, so I've
I've gotten through the first two seasons.
First season was kind of like, there's a lot of awkward
weirdness to it that I can't stand.

And I just like, I don't like watching awkward situations.
It makes me feel very uncomfortable.
So first season was, but the second season I liked a lot more
and I was watching this one actor and I was like staring at
him for a long time. And also I was like, he's Elzar,
man. I swear to fucking God.
I swear. This guy is Elzar.
And I've been like looking at him.
So it's Theo James. Theo James who?

I could say so many things. I'll be appropriate and
respectful girl. I know all about Theo James,
which makes it sadder that I've never brought up him as Elzar.
I know I'm feeling kind of ashamed right now because I I
know I know I know I'm sorry. So this is actually my bad and
not your bad for not watching the White Lotus.
I have watched the White Lotus. I've seen that in freaking not
Bridgerton, the Downton Abbey. I've seen that man in the

Divergent novels are the Divergent series when that came
to visual media. I've appreciated how this man
looks for years and not once during any of our discussions
about Elzar. Man was I like Theo James dude
and no one. Else brought him up too, right?
He think you know what? Brought him up and I think we've

Well, it's just so funny cuz like, I was watching this show

Rings, like you are a big yes person, so it would be odd to me

Severance or like The White Lotus.

season I thought she was like awful and annoying and in the

out to actually, it's the authorof the book we're talking about
right now, which is great, the lovely, ever wonderful Zoraida
Cordova, because she had made a comment on a video that Rachel
had thought up of that was supergreat.
And she was wearing our awesome High Republic shirts that Rachel
made. And she commented on it about
how she needs one of the shirts and DM D her.

And she was very nice enough to not just have been bullshitting
about the shirt. And she was like, yeah, oh,
yeah. I always, you know, she could
have easily been like, oh, no, Ijust wanted to be supportive.
You don't need to send me a shirt or whatever.
But she was like, no, I want, I would love a shirt.
So it made me so happy. And I cannot wait until she gets
it. And it's going to be amazing to
see her wearing an amazing High Republic shirt.

I'm so excited. I can't wait to send that out to
her. Yeah, all the authors are always
super supportive of Star Wars creators on socials, and it's
really, really nice and I hope they know how much we all
appreciate it. We truly appreciate them so
much. But like, not only the words to
just being amazing human beings,yeah. 100% I think the only

other thought I had was I'm sureeveryone's very aware of what's
going on around the nation rightnow and we just had the no kings
protest yesterday and holy shit what a what a turn out.
I am so just thrilled. The reason I bring this up
during Star Wars news is becausethe large amount of Star Wars
posters that I either saw in person or via the Internet,

thankfully, it was just so good.It's like, you know, you've
really fucked up when the introverts and the nerds have
showed up, you know what I mean?And absolutely, it was so great
to see so many obvious Star Warsfans that are like, hey, I don't
know if you remember this, but Star Wars, it's political and
it's about you. And we're going to remind you of
that. And it was.

So good. I love the creativity of some of
these signs and posters that people brought out and
especially the Star Wars ones. It was so great.
Unfortunately I had to work thatday so I could not go, but I
loved seeing everybody support. Yeah, I got lucky.
And there was a one literally right by my workplace.
And so for safety reasons, they made everyone leave work.

And I was like, no, so I got lucky that I would have had to
be at work. And a lot of people have to work
and can't attend. And there's like 500 other
things you can do to show support.
You don't have to be at a protest.
I just got lucky and could make the tail end of the one by me.
But yeah, all the Star Wars fansthat turned that band so good.
So good. But I think that's all I had.

Why can't I speak today? OK, In fairness, that's so close
to Arachus from Dune, which is essentially also Star Wars.
So it's totally, it's totally there.
Or the vice versa, right? Isn't Star Wars supposed to be
Dune or Shut? Up.
We don't talk about that. No stealing ever happened here.
Ride the Storm is definitely nota reference to riding the worms,

I'm just saying. Oh my God.
Anyway, but I do like that we start the chapter right away
finding out who the mystery person that was staring at the
Jedi group in the prior chapter.And it's this Nile girl named
Hayes Delic and she's a helico which is a really cool shark
like sentient species from Helicoprion, which is apparently

(15:47):
a distant species are relative to the carco.
Oh my God, carcarodons. I want to say carcarodons like
the shark but not the carcarodons ha.
My brain also like messed up on that one because obviously we
both know the actual word you'rereferring to which is
referencing sharks. And my brain was like what I

(16:10):
was. Like trucker writing it.
So I was like, Nah, stop it. And it's funny that your brain
was obviously like shark, like because of that.
And my brain read the description of her and instead
of being like, oh, yeah, that's a shark.
I was like, that's just a lamprey.
That's a lamprey with flippered feet and clawed hands.
I don't care what anybody else thinks it is.

(16:32):
I'm going to, we'll, maybe we'llput this on social so I can show
everyone my vision. Do you have a specific vision of
a lamprey? Well, I, I Google image search
to make sure I wasn't crazy, butthey have like these really wide
set black eyes and a bunch of rows of sharp teeth.
And like, I just exactly, there's like one image in

particular where it's like vertical and its eyes are on
either side of its head really wide set.
And then I'm just saying that that's what popped into my head,
but with. The color too, with the yellow
green skin. Yes.
Do you see the vision? God, she's a lamprey.

So as much as I always want things to be sharks, I just, I

don't know. I think she might be a lamprey

that everything about her is kind of marine themed.

And we find out about her parents, who I immediately
assumed they were dead because why else would she be doing what
she's doing alone right now withthe nigh hill?
You know what I mean? I was like, oh, your parents for
sure died. They're traumatized.
But her mom was a historian of Queens, of underwater worlds.

Well, I didn't catch that. That's awesome.
Isn't that the? Coolest job you've.
Ever. And her father was a maintenance
man, which is also amazing because he's the one who taught
her how to like do all the shit maintenance that has gotten to
her to where she is now, which is piloting her own ship.
So both really cool jobs. I'm not shit talking the
maintenance part but like Queensof underwater.

Worlds amazing she. Just had to mention that.
Yeah, that's a good one. Yeah.
And unfortunately, her parents died when she was really little
during a a pirate brawl in a cantina.
And so she's super bitter and angry at the Galaxy and hates
everyone except Marquee on Roe because he's the only one who
truly cares about her. It's like, Oh no.

We lost another good one, guys. It's so sad.
It's so sad. And yeah, I guess.
She's on a mission from Niv. Niv drained out and I'm like
what? And she does not like him which
makes me feel a little bit better about it.
She says he has the personality of Bantapudu which a top tier

reference. Love that but she's chasing a
bounty on some huts that I guessstole from Niv and I'm like OK I
see what's happening. Well, that was she followed the
huts and it led to a dead end because they were too well
protected. So she picked up another bounty,
which is to go pick up two nameless that are running around

(19:24):
in Palakosol. So it's so funny that, like, I
mean, we know as readers that this is all gonna tie together.
Yeah. But that was just like, oh,
that's an interesting like little aside.
Yeah. And she's like, I know she, it's
mentioned a couple times how upset she is that she feels like
she failed that first assignment.
And so this is her chance to sort of like bring it back and

(19:45):
like gain her reputation and allof that stuff.
So she really doesn't want to fail this one.
Yeah, so she watches the group take off and she puts on her
climate regulating suit and heads out to the crash Republic
ship. She immediately sees the
lightsaber Marks and the ship and gets really excited because
there's Jedi here and she can score Jedi and.

(20:07):
Shameless and all the things to earn her rankings up in the Nile
it's. Crazy to me that like the Nihil
have their own things going on with the, you know, conquering
of worlds and stuff, but it seems like most of them
understand kind of the significance of the Jedi to
Markian and Baron Boulin and Neve Dren Dow and the nameless
thing. It's like there's two different

(20:28):
things going on in the Nihil right now.
It's like the world conquering, but also just the targeted
destruction of the Jedi. So it's it's always interesting
to me when I'm like a random nigh hill are also aware of this
part of things. They're not just out there
pillaging. They're also doing this side
quest. Totally, yeah.
It's like they're smart enough to know what it is that gains

(20:51):
them prestige. And he's also a really smart
girl and is really looking to impress Mark Yon to whatever way
she can. Well, girl.
Don't do it. Don't do it.
Yeah, she thought it was smart, though.
She. Is funny.
I also thought it was funny thatshe like, was like looking at
the tracks and like trying to figure out what direction they

went and noticed that they were looked like they were dragging
something that was the hut's body, right?
Like just lithering around. Yep, that was that was
definitely true. So.
Like how did they? How did she miss him while she
was observing the group? So like, was he just like
hanging back and like hiding under something I don't?
Playing Dead I. Don't amazing, but she like she

(21:35):
knows, you know, of course there's interest in the Jedi on
the Nighthall side of things. And so she's starting to
formulate this plan and she returns to her ship and is like,
I'm gonna wait for nightfall. And I was like, great, we're
gonna find out her plan. We don't, we immediately go to
chapter and I was like great, now I just get to have anxiety
for our little crew. I have a hard time taking her
super seriously. Maybe it's because I love Shark

(21:57):
so much and so she's so little. I'm just like, oh, they're
there. It's even worse if she's
actually a lamprey because you're just like, there's not a
thought behind those eyes. Single thought head empty.
I, I loved every single introduction to a chapter.
I wrote down Palligosol and it just never changed.
So I'm I have a feeling we're going to be here for a while

(22:19):
based on context clues chapter. 9.
Yeah, we just never change wherewe're at.
And it made me. Well, they make differences like
like middle of nowhere is obviously a like Jamel POV like
thing. So like we get to kind of see
like they're all on the same planet.
But like depending on the description, it will give you

(22:40):
insight to whose it is we're following.
Yeah, which is fun. I started figuring that out as I
went, and I was like, OK, I see what?
I see what you're doing, Jamel. Jamel.
Yeah, I think he's kind of finding out.
Well, he's always wanted this like adventure, right?
But now he's on one and I think he's a little overwhelmed a bit.

He's 100% Samois Gamji in this moment, like always wanted to go
see the elves, Master Frodo and like and wants to go on these
ventures. And then he goes out and he's
like, if I take one more step, this will be the furthest away
from the Shire I've ever been. Oh my God, Top tier nerd
reference for one. Yeah, but yeah.

(23:20):
This is a good lesson for him, though, because he wants to be a
Padawan. He's still a youngling, and he
knows that part of training and part of becoming a Jedi is
getting used to this unknown right, and to not always have
things go according to plan. You have to be able to adapt to
be a good Jedi. And so I think he kind of
accepts. Like, I'm a little frightened,

(23:42):
I'm a little overwhelmed, but maybe this will be the thing
that sort of gets me on that path to being a girl.
I don't even want to talk about Turtle Cove.
I'm still upset that they named it Turtle.
Turtle. I'll be even more upset later
when we get descriptions of these things, but my brain is
just like a turtle. Oh, I like turtle.
I don't know. I love turtle.
It's more just that my brain is like, you're saying the wrong

(24:03):
word and I'm like, I'm not, it'sStar Wars.
And then I type it out and my computer is like, you're saying
the wrong word and I'm like, it's Star Wars.
You should be used to be right. Oh.
My goodness. Yeah, I did like Jamil.
How do you pronounce his name? I always do it wrong.
I've been saying Jamil. Jamil.
OK. Like, I always appreciate it
when we have kids. Perspective on really large

(24:23):
events. Jamil can see that the Jedi
adults are really struggling with this nameless threat and
that they're all really stressedand don't really have much hope.
And he says this really cool thing about how hope was a
fragile thing and despite his young age, understood that.
And he sees it in the way that the adults had behaved ever
since the bad things started happening.

(24:44):
And he sees it more and more that when Jedi return, they're
coming back alone from these missions.
Yeah, and they're adding their friends to the Khyber arch.
So sad. It's a.
Lot for what? Again, for the 15th time is a
child. This is a child.
But I also think that children are so observant of the world

(25:08):
around them. Oh, God.
You know, as we are aware now, Imean, there's always bad things
happening. And so I what I like about
children's books, it gives kids an opportunity to process
another traumatic event, but through the lens of another kid,
and so that maybe then they can process their own emotions about
big, scary worldwide events. That's true.

(25:29):
It's. Cool.
It is, yeah. It's like they have to learn
these things. It's just always so jarring in
the Star Wars world, how young they are exposed to these, like,
grand events. And I mean, but it does happen
in real life, too. I think I just forget because
it's in this fantastical world. But this is just the reality.
Yeah. I like the churro kind of like

(25:51):
questions them about Jedi schoolwhich I thought was super fun
and I don't know if he's just trying to like connect with them
more or figure out what their motives are.
I'm not sure what it is churros trying to get from it, maybe
just a connection at all? I thought he's just like being
his scientists and curious aboutwho they are.
He can't really. Yeah, He really can't go home

(26:14):
and ask his parents about the Jedi.
You know, the parents would justbe like, why are you asking
about the Jedi? Go away.
Shut up. Well.
And like, I don't think I realized until they said it, he
doesn't go to a normal school. I was so shocked by this.
That's no school at all. Yeah, they were like, well,
we'll build you a laboratory greenhouse place, and you can
just school there. And he's like with my own
thoughts, like what is he? But then again that.

(26:36):
Whole self-taught program. Have you heard about that?
It's getting momentum. It's like, oh, it's the the huts
are the precursors to all of that, which means it's not a
good idea. Yeah, if the huts are doing it,
you should probably call it his.Yeah.
But yeah, his parents expect himto join the family business.
So like, I can see that in theirmind they're like, what's the

point? But we're going to teach you the
family business. That's all you need to know.
Exactly. But obviously from Truro's side,
he's like, well, I might want todo other things or I might want
to like, make friends outside ofmy horrible cousins, and it just
makes you feel bad. Absolutely.
And so suddenly Jamil gets this weird feeling and we get a nice

description about how he detectsthe force and apparently he
senses a force and like tendrilsand hot and cold feelings.
So he feels this warmth coming from the structure and the
distance. So he immediately just like
starts running towards it and when he gets closer he notices
that it's a shelter. So he yells at everyone to come
on over and they're all inspecting this little shelter

(27:40):
place. It's like this old shed and they
find this comms unit that's so old and falling apart that it's
put together by tape. I laughed so hard.
It's so good, but of course they're able to play the hollow
message and it's cutting in and out, but they can see that it's
a nicto shepherd and he's warning that they're coming and

(28:01):
it's and it like cuts out and says to get to the outpost
cutting out monsters and run. Don't like that?
Well, and like, at various points throughout this whole
scene, Jameel is getting random brushes of cold and I was like,
no, don't like that at all. Nope.
So me neither. Yeah, after hearing what was on

(28:23):
the message too, I was like, obviously this is a reference to
the Nameless. And I mean, they're wondering if
that's what they're saying too, or if they're just calling the
nigh hill monsters for running everyone off planet.
Like, they're not 100% sure, butthey do think it's kind of odd.
And I think it's, I was kind of thinking about this too, that
both here and on -3 they've experienced attacks that may or

(28:45):
may not have included the nameless, even though there's
not Jedi there at the time of the attacks, because the Jedi
Temple here on Palagosol was evacuated before that ever
happened. And -3 doesn't have a temple.
So I think they're kind of like,what is it that they are doing
with the nameless in these places without Jedi?
Interesting it. Is very interesting and I like

(29:07):
that Churro points out about conducting experiments and maybe
the Nile are trying to see what happens to the nameless on these
planets. Yeah, I like that Jamil points
out that the forces and everything, which gives me
thinking maybe these nameless will eventually learn to consume
other entities. Which sounds a lot like the

(29:29):
blight it. Truly does.
Hmm, Yikes. Yikes is right.
And they keep going back like Master Caro is like, let's we
have to capture this nameless. And I'm like, what if we don't?
So nonchalant. What if we all just left?
That sounds like a better plan. Thank you.
It's like I understand they don't have a ship, but like just
calm if you can, which I understand nigh hill around.

(29:52):
That means all the comms are broken, but like they got to
figure out a way to get off thisplanet and master Carl was like,
no, I think we should capture itlong enough to wait till the
innovator gets back. This is just like I don't like
any of this at all. How how?
Yep, just how I I don't know. And like moments like this make
me wonder, have they all seen Mark Yon murder a grandmaster

(30:16):
Preach of Eater I? Don't know, there might be some
people that haven't. OK.
You would think a master would have been shown it, but then
again, like what if they were? Trying, yeah.
Yeah, I mean, maybe they were trying to keep from everyone
just being absolutely terrified and so they didn't show people
who didn't watch it live. I don't, I don't know.

You know how the Council gets sometimes.
Yeah. I'm not sure.
If she did see that, I'm not sure what on earth would make
her think this will be easy witha bunch of children.
Not a fan. No, not a fan either.
And I guess she's under the impression they have Churro and
Zinni and Welga and they're not force users so like, it's going

to be fine. Totally.
Just use them. Yeah, we've played this game
before and it doesn't. That's not how that works.
But we'll, we'll find out. I know.
So they sit down, eat a nice snack before heading back out,
and after a while of walking, they suddenly come to this steep
Slandy Slandy sandy slope that extends down really far below

them. And I love that Kildo's answer
to this is to cut this giant boulder into thin slices and to
use it as a makeshift skim board.
I love. It he like surfs down the rocks.
It's so good and like so good. OK, I I love that Churro doesn't
need one. Churro's like I got this bro and

can just roll down the hill. I need to see this.
Yeah, the vigilation or something, yeah.
It's like an armadillo rolling up and just like, yeah, so I
need to, I need to see it. Yeah, yeah.
But Jamil and Tep Tep cut boardsfor everybody else and they all
go to slide down together. And sweet Jamil is terrified and

(32:03):
frozen at the top. And I was like, oh, baby.
But he thinks back to this conversation that he had had
with Kildo during their like walk about.
He had told him that fear was like a wall.
And you just have to like jump over it and get to the other
side. Jamil wants to be a Jedi, so he
knows like, I have to conquer fear.
And this is just a very small example of me being able to do

(32:26):
that. He does eventually, like, get
himself to jump down and go. So good.
It is. It's not good for long though,
right? No, because once Jamil reaches
the bottom he instantly feels cold and is overcome by fear and
he realizes he cannot move and like so, he's out of it.
He can. Jamil can vaguely sense any

(32:48):
dragging him away while Churro shouts for Kildo and tep tep.
Hate it, hate it. The last thing we're left with
in this chapter is Master Karl igniting her lightsaber while
Welga begins firing her blasters.
Yeah, I was. Like, this will be great.
It's just like the Furnestra andthe RDC soldiers, right?

(33:09):
Like, oh for sure, we're going to kill him right away.
Nothing bad is going to happen. Nothing bad is going to happen.
Everything's going to be fine. This is also a point where I was
like, this is a children's novel, they're not going to do
anything wrong. I was.
Like, oh, it's a children's novel in Star Wars, so someone's
going to die and it's for sure going to be the adult because
they're mean, but they're not that mean, you know what I mean?

(33:31):
Yeah, yeah. I got the vibes.
We don't find out what happens right away because we moved to
Chapel Chapter 10, and we're at the Total Cove outpost Total
total. And we we finally meet the Lexi
Graylark of it all. Did not believe she was on this
planet, I. Didn't either.

(33:52):
Or that she maybe had been at one point but got off.
Turns out she's been in like a survival bunker.
And they're not doing great. She's with four others, and they
are the only ones that have survived the Nile raid.
But they're trapped in this bunker, and they're running out
of food and water. And with them is a Jedi Knight

(34:15):
named Rolin Loss, who is severely injured.
She has a giant electrospear hole in her stomach.
Yeah. This is not a great situation.
It's. Not, and I mean she's with also
an RDC like Commander. Great, wonderful, but the other
two own the diner upstairs. Like.

(34:37):
This is not an elite group that can maybe ration forever and
like, do all that stuff. So she kind of, I think, feels
she's the only one keeping this Jedi alive at this point, which
is not a good place to be. No, and they don't have supplies
to keep her alive. A couple rejuve things maybe?
Other than that she's just like the poor Jedi, is running a

(35:00):
fever because of terrible infection I'm assuming, and
she's trying to put like water on her forehead but like that
can only go so far if you've gotgiant open wound.
Yeah, and she's, like, using clothes to, like, make the
wrappings. And it's like, that's not
sanitary in a dusty ass bunker. Oh.
Totally so. Things aren't great in the
middle of this. Not greatness, though.

(35:21):
I did get really excited becausethey were describing raw Len and
Lexi was like, oh, she has greenfreckles.
And I was like, I run. It's like, that has to be iron.
And we, I mean, we get an answerin like 2 sentences.
But I got excited anyway. But yeah, I guess we find out
Lexi was with the RDC and the her whole troop had been

(35:42):
deployed there to help evacuate citizens during the Nihol raid.
And Rolin was living there. Which is funny because Home Girl
got called back to chorus that with everybody else and decided
not to go, which is very Jedi ofher.
It's so very Jedi of her. But yeah, she ends up getting an

(36:02):
Electro sphere to the gut duringa fight.
And we kind of get this interesting sort of inner
dialogue from Lexie about how she enjoys the Jedi a lot
because she likes questioning the whys of the universe, right?
And like why things work the waythey do whatever.
And the Force, for a lot of people in the Galaxy who are not
Jedi, is this humongous questionmark of like, what is this?

(36:25):
How does it work? I don't understand.
And through all of that sort of thinking and interacting with
the Jedi, I think it kind of inspired her that maybe there
was something worth fighting forout there, and that's why she
enlisted in the RDC. And I thought that was cool.
That is so cool yeah yeah I alsoliked that the 2 owners of the
what was it not a cantina, the diner were the ones that had the

(36:48):
bunker. So they were trapped in by the
Nile and knew that they couldn'tmake it to the skate pod, so
they ended up going to the bunker, which allowed them to
survive and live. But once they all piled in, like
the night, the Nameless came after them.
So Lexi got a good visual on those creatures.
And I like that we hear that shereally loves animals, but these

(37:12):
things, she was like, no thank you.
I'm not a fan of these. These are terrifying.
Yeah, she like, sees them out the dining or the diner, like
windows coming for them. And she had like pulled Rollin
in to get her to safety because Rollin was freaking out,
obviously, you know, nameless. The thing I got most from this
though, is that Marl, which is one of the diner owners, is one

(37:35):
of the bunker crazies that we have in real life.
And it just made me laugh because.
Yep. He was like telling his wife,
which is, is it Carl or did my computer?
Darl, thank you. I was like, I don't think
that's, I don't think it's Carl.He's like, well, I bet you're
really glad that I built this bunker now.
Darl's like this is the safest planet in the whole Galaxy.

(37:55):
And then the bunker. Yeah, she likes Sass's back
about well, you had this bunker,but you didn't stock it up with
supplies like I told you to. It's.
So good, I love it. But yeah, they're kind of,
they're kind of screwed, right? Because the Nighhill, obviously
they did something to the locking mechanism after they got
in the bunker and they're just trapped there and the comms

(38:16):
aren't getting through and the food's running out and Rollin is
probably going to die of infection.
Yes, great chapter, very uplifting.
So uplifting. It gets more uplifting in
Chapter 11, right? It absolutely does.
We are in the middle of nowhere again and we are now in Zenni's
perspective as all the Nameless are attacking.
I really liked her description of the two.

(38:37):
Nameless 1 looks like this patchwork of different pieces
put together and these like these metal plates and these
metal studs sewn onto its skin. And the other one looks a lot
newer and it's like it's got like purples and Blues, but the
only like metal piece that's on it is this metal collar.
So I'm very curious about these two nameless and why one looks

(39:01):
like a Frankenstein monster and the other ones like I'm just
born yesterday. I don't know.
Also, are these the ones from Temptation of the Force?
That's a great question. I remember one in temptation of
the force being partially like bionic, so I wondered if they
were. They killed them, didn't they?
Did they? I couldn't.

(39:21):
Remember. And Avar killed them, they
didn't run away. And Elzar and Avar didn't die.
Did they kill? They might have killed them.
I can't shoot. It's been so long since we've
read that now that I can't remember, but I assumed if not
and if they did die in that book, like I should totally
remember, that means that NIV isgoing freaking ham on these

nameless, right? Yes.
There's some bad stuff going on with these experiments between
him and Baron Bulin. It's like.
Between the two of them, this isjust horrific.
I have a soft spot for the nameless because I don't think
it's their fault that they're here not.
I. Don't think they deserve this
terrible treatment that both Bulin and Yev are doing, and I

(40:05):
definitely don't think the Jedi should die, but they just need
to go back to Planet X. OK, just.
They really do, but it's obviousif there's a healthy 1.
I don't know if that means they figured something out with their
little face cream or whatever, you know, it ends up being, or
if they have found a new source of eggs or like, I'm not sure

(40:26):
what is happening with this healthy one.
Curious, but yeah. Yeah, I like that both Zeni and
Chur aren't entirely sure what these monsters are.
Or the Namel Star. They keep calling them monsters.
And that one point Zeni shouts that maybe they're the Nile
secret weapon to killing Jedi. And you can see Churl just
suddenly go the secret weapon tokilling Jedi and he like, you

(40:47):
know, he's thinking about the egg he has in his backpack and
like, literally. Right there.
Yeah. Not good, not good.
Sorry, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead.
Oh, OK, I was going to say, Zenni and Chira are trying to
drag the younglings away. And that's when Master Caro,
poor thing, she's swinging her lightsaber blindly around her

(41:09):
and ends up falling to one knee.Welga's beside her, trying to
fire the blasters at her, at theNameless, but it only makes them
angrier. And so this is where I'm
thinking to Fernestra and the RDC, like why were they able to
destroy that Nameless? And I definitely am not going to
downside downplay that and say that it was easy, but it seems

(41:31):
like they're blasting it just asmuch as they did then and it's
not working. Yeah.
Which makes me nervous that these are they're just getting
better and better at whatever they're doing to the nameless,
and now they're becoming less vulnerable.
Yeah, is right, we do. In the midst of all this
horribleness, Zenni manages to slice one of the nameless that
are going for Caro, who is not doing well.

(41:53):
And right in the middle of all of this, we get one of these
amazing pictures, pictures that we get in the middle grades
novels. And it's so, so good.
I think I've got it here if I can find it quickly.
It is beautiful. Not that one.
It is all of these cute little kids standing.
Oh. My God and.

(42:13):
There is. I love it.
Picture of. The nameless here, it's so, so
good. I just love it because it looks
like a picture of Jedi, but it'snot.
It's Zenni and Churro who are standing in front of, you know,
all these Jedi younglings and they've taken Zenid, ends up
taking Kildo Saber and igniting it and is like trying to defend

(42:35):
them. And it's just such a great
picture of, I don't know, it's that age-old thing in Star Wars
that keeps coming back now is that you don't have to be a Jedi
to matter. You can still fight and you can
still make a difference. And I liked that they chose this
particular scene to make a picture.
Of well, there are so many cool moments in this, including her
picking up the lightsaber, and this is a grey lark who's

(42:58):
turning on another purple light Saber.
So I'm like, what's going on here with the grey larks and
purple light sabers? Like I just, it's so cool.
It is cool and I'm proud of Churro too because Churro is
terrified but like the. Feminist stab one and the
eyeball. Exactly, stabs one with his
fusion cutter in the eye. And like, these are scary

(43:20):
things. This is also a child and he
doesn't know what to do. And he still manages to like,
muster up the courage to be like, I have to do something or
the Jedi are going to die and I might die to you.
So I was super proud of him for stepping.
I did find it really interestingthat the nameless ran at him and

(43:40):
I wondered if they were going directly towards his backpack,
like they could sense the egg inthere.
Yes, another nerd reference. It reminded me of Jurassic Park
3. Yeah, the velociraptors are just
like the entire plot. The velociraptors coming after
that one guy for stealing their eggs.
The eggs. Yeah.
And I was like, OK. That's awesome.

(44:03):
OK, this is the bad thing though, right?
If you're ever in the presence of a predator and the predator
runs away, it's probably not a good situation that's happening,
right? Like it's not good and the
nameless both suddenly run off and it's not because everyone's
doing such a good job of defending.
They look and they realize there's this huge cloud of white

(44:26):
dust that is like gathering towards them down the slope,
like avalanche style right it. Looks like an avalanche at first
for sure. But it's actually just the scene
from The Lion King with the Stampede.
But cooler because they're giantturtles.
It's a bunch of turtles. And I was like, hell yeah.
And we've got tep tep folks. Like I knew in this moment like

(44:47):
things are probably going to be OK for at least 5 seconds.
Yeah, the, the group is like, weneed to get away from this
Stampede and they're trying to run away.
But of course the Jedi are stillaffected by the Nameless and are
not moving very fast. And especially if Master Caro,
like the younglings are at leastlike getting better as the
effects of the Nameless wears off.

(45:08):
But Master Caro is not. And I liked earlier that like
when she was being attacked by the Nameless, like Zenni noticed
ash on her and she was like clawing out her eyes just like a
not a great sign for any Jedi. So hate that.
But of course tap tap runs towards the turtles and says
wait guys you must trust me. And she manages to guide the

(45:31):
turtles to Stampede around them safely.
It's so good. And then she eventually gets
them to like slow down so that they can all climb up on top.
I love it so much. Which thank goodness they have
her to do this because they realize the nameless are still
there, they have just got. Coming back.

(45:52):
Coming back and they're like stalking the herd at this point,
essentially, and probably waiting on them to clear out so
that they can go back for the Jedi again.
So if they hadn't been able to hop on the turtles, they would
have just been wiped out. There's no way.
I like that Zenni is trying to encourage her turtle to step on
the nameless and squish the first.

(46:12):
Like I love this concept, it's so good.
Yeah, I don't know if we like said it, but these are big like,
oh the. Turtles, yes.
There was what's? Your imagination like size wise
like Oh my gosh comparative likeelephant size.
That's kind of what I had in my mind as an elephant.
Yeah, Yeah. And nameless are like I don't
know. Tiger.

(46:32):
Yeah, I like that. But yeah, the nameless.
Oh God, yeah. I was going to say, the Nameless
are dodging the turtles very well, and they're weaving in and
out, and 1 is like, headed straight for tap, tap.
Yeah. Master Caro sees this, so she
jumps off her turtle and she's able to use the Force to guide

(46:54):
tep depth to safety, which is inZenni's arms.
And that's when Master Caro ignites her lightsaber, turns to
face the Nameless once again, but this time she falls and is
turned to dust. Yeah, no.
They had to do it, someone had to go, and it wasn't going to be
a gift. No, I.
Know I was like, I hate that I knew this was going to happen

(47:15):
and how traumatizing that Zenni sees.
This. Oh my God, I know she.
Like turns around as they're allleaving her behind, which
obviously they don't want to do,and she just ends up seeing her
fall to the ground and turn to ash.
Like how horrifying is that? It's so awful, I feel so bad for
them. I do too.
Don't worry with all that trauma, we just go on to Chapter

(47:36):
2. No time to process, guys.
We've got a, we've got a, we finally figure out what Hayes is
up to, though. I've been wondering where this
girl is. And she lands her ship like near
the outpost because in her assumption, that's where they're
headed. There's nowhere else to go.
And she ends up watching this entire scene play out.
She sees the Nameless fighting between, you know, all of these.

(47:59):
And it's it's insane that she was able to just like, sit there
and watch that. And she knows, just watching
everything, that this would be amassive score if she could bring
back both Jedi and Nameless. Yeah, and she has this moment
because, like, she watches the group and they go to this area
where they make a camp and they're all surrounded by the
turtles. And she knows she can't go in

(48:21):
and attack all of them because turtles and others.
So she's going to be patient. So she goes to inspect the
outpost. Of course, it's deserted.
She's got her Electro staff withher on guard.
She finds his diner and sees signs of people fleeing.
And it kind of reminds her the diner kind of reminds her of her
parents and like, like, the signs of people fleeing, reminds

(48:43):
her of how she had to leave abruptly from helicoprion.
And she's kind of, like, starts to have empathy for these
people. I was like, aha, there it is.
There is a little bit of hope and light in this little helico
girl I know Well. Hayes ends up going to the
communications tower and destroys all of the controls so

(49:04):
that no one can send out distress calls.
I was like, gosh Dang it. There it is.
Yeah. I feel like this girl has
compartmentalized so hard. That piece of her that's still a
child and still has goodness in her.
It's in this, like, little box in her brain.
And I think she normally can keep it shoved down.
And it's like you said, kind of seeing this stuff opens it up a

(49:26):
little bit. And when she gets back to her
ship, we kind of see that play out and she sort of reopens the
box for a minute and she finds achildhood Stingray toy that she
has. And she, she like, cuddles it
and cradles it to her for a moment.
And like, allows herself that moment of being a kid again who
isn't a Nihil and hasn't done all these bad things and isn't

(49:47):
going to do these bad things. And then she's like, OK, Nihil,
don't do this. We got to put this back in the
box. And I got to get ready to set up
my trap. And it's so interesting to see.
This is still a child. She can't be that old, right?
I think she said she was 16 at one point.
Yeah, that's not that's, that's really young to be able to turn

(50:08):
your personality on and off likethis.
It's terrifying. And it just kind of reaffirms
that she has had a very hard time and has come to where she
is now out of desperation, essentially.
It doesn't make it right, but I I enjoy that we see why it is
she's gotten to this point. Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, it's tough. I mean, she has to survive, and

(50:29):
the Nile are the only family shehas at this point.
So she's going to do what she has to do to like, fit in and
make them happy and make her wayup.
Yep, exactly. Well, next chapter 13 we are in
the Serpentine forest love. We follow Churro's point of
view. So the the group has set up the
camp surrounded by turtles, justlike we had seen with Hayes's

(50:53):
perspective and the the prior chapter.
But Churro is trying to to collect like twigs and stuff to
make a fire and he's just just like crying.
He's so upset. He keeps seeing Master Caro
sacrificing herself for them andis so sad that he wasn't able to
do more for her. It's.
So sad. Well, and he has this horrible
realization. He's thinking of his family and

(51:16):
all his cousins and all these people who are supposed to care
about him, you know, quote UN quote.
And he's like, none of them would have done that.
And it's so sad. So it's like, sad.
And now he's worried because he's like, my God, is the thing
in my backpack a nameless? And it's like, yeah, Ding, Ding,
Ding, you've gotten it. But now he knows these people.

(51:36):
Now he's had one of them sacrifice their life for him,
and he doesn't want it to hatch and hurt anybody.
That's just not, he's not a bad person, you know?
And he's just trying to do something to like, help his
family. And he's realizing now like, I
gotta get out of here and away from them because I don't want
this to be my fault if they end up getting hurt.

(51:57):
Yeah. So Churro heads back to the
campsite. They start this fire.
And, you know, there's this, like, awkward moment where
they're all, like, sitting around the fire, very quiet.
And Churro like speaks up and apologizes to the younglings for
them losing their master Caro and kill those like don't be
sorry. Master Karo is one with the
force. Now.
They they talk about how they had seen a lot of this while

(52:20):
they were on Vallow. And that's when like the Nile
would feed the Jedi to the nameless.
And I had forgotten that they had seen that much because I
knew like we talked about it a little bit from escape from
Vallow, but not to the point like of this.
And it's just like, oof. Yeah, it's crazy that like some
of the worst of the worst thingsthat have been described have

(52:42):
been in the middle. Great Snuffles.
Totally. It's.
Crazy, but I like that they bring all this stuff up though
they end up having this like really nice fireside talk about
like everything. Not just Master Caro and the
Nameless, but like the Force. They talk about Gabby and
Driggett and Truro and Zenni finally end up bonding over

(53:02):
family pressures, which was not on my bingo card.
No, even though they have opposite kinds, like one of them
is pressured to be this amazing hero, right?
The Gray Lark family is always going to, you know, go above and
beyond whatever and help the RDCand Churro is under this
pressure to be bad, you know, but it's like it's this thing
they have in common that they can both understand and it leads

(53:24):
to her apologizing for being forall of her specieism earlier
when she was being super rude. I.
Know, And Churro is so touched by this and like, he thinks
about it and like, he eventuallygets to the point where like, he
is ready to tell everyone about this nameless egg and he's going
to say it. But then all of a sudden they
all smell something really gross.
And Cheryl's response is to be like, it wasn't me.

(53:46):
And stepped up is like, Oh yeah,it's the turtles.
We know this. Yeah.
They must smell awful. That's.
So sad because that of course, like deterred that conversation
all together off of what was hiding in his backpack and.
Yeah. And then I go back to like, we
must follow the mission, we mustfind Zenny sister and we must
capture and nameless. It's like, why didn't you just

(54:09):
see that thing like? I know why it is cool.
I think for the Jedi though, they finally get descriptions of
the nameless from. Yeah, that was cool.
Everybody else, which I thought was really cool.
It's just interesting to get thenon force user perspective of it
as always. And this is when we finally
address what we have talked about before where Tep Tep

(54:31):
brings up that she thought she could talk to the nameless like
she does to other animals. And I don't think we mentioned
it before, but it happened during that whole attack scene.
She, I think it was Zenni that noticed her trying to almost
crawl towards the Nameless. And in that moment I was like,
is she trying to connect with them?
And so I'm glad we got confirmation that that's what
she was trying to do, but apparently she can't.

(54:53):
That sucks. I know we kind of had that like
discussion a long time ago of like, well, maybe tap, tap can
like. Nope, apparently not.
Yeah, these are not normal creatures, if they even are
creatures at the end of the day.Yeah.
Well, and it's like I'm assumingher talent with that has to do
with the force and being able toconnect with these animals
through the force. These animals aren't, they don't

(55:14):
have like they're a void in the Force almost I guess.
So I don't know how she could even connect with that.
What did Baryaga say in Temptations of the Force?
That they were homesick? Or was that the blight that was
homesick? Because I thought the he had an
interesting descriptor for the nameless too.
I want. To say it was the nameless, or
maybe it was the right now, I can't remember.

(55:35):
Yeah, homesick. I feel like Homesick is right.
Yeah, I think so. So yeah, I don't know.
I have mixed feelings about the nameless and like what they are
and why Tep Tep can't connect tothem like she normally can with
other creatures. And especially like earlier too,
when Zenni was trying to like crawl onto one of the nameless
and pull it off of 1 of the her friends that like I felt like a

(55:59):
cloud and was like, what does that mean?
Yep, I know these creatures continue to be an enigma, even
though we've had so much of themin the story.
There's just so many unanswered questions for me about how they
operate and what they even are as beings.
Yeah, so they all head to bed and Churro just thinks about he
must get away from his new friends as soon as of all my

Surprise, we're with Jamil. Yep.
And poor guy, he wakes up super disoriented.
He doesn't know where he is at 1st and it takes him a minute to
remember that he's on Paula Gosal.
I've definitely had that where you're like, you know, you're

(56:44):
traveling, you're going from like 1 hotel to the next and you
like wake up. You're like, oh, where am I?
What year is it? Yeah, yeah, exactly.
So he wakes up in the middle of night and he notices that Kildo
is meditating. And so he gets up to go join
him. And eventually Kildo, like,
notices that Jamil's kind of like peeking at and they, they
both end up talking about meditating and how it's

(57:04):
important to find a routine eventhough they're in a like, a
scenario where there is no routine and kill those.
Like, that's the routine, Jamil.Yeah.
Which is. Frustrating for Jamil,
obviously, because he's like, no, that's not OK.
But this is what he was thinkingabout earlier, right?
As a Jedi, you have to get used to those scenarios.

(57:24):
So you have to be able to find the structure and the routine of
chaos. You you just have to be able to
do that. So it's interesting to see
Kildo, who is still a youngling.He's already figured that out.
And even one of the more chaoticyounglings too, right?
Because he's so like, adventurous and free spirited
and yeah. Yeah, but I wonder if that has
to do with Valo and all the stuff they experienced there.

(57:47):
Those kids had to mature very, very fast.
And so I'm maybe that has something to do with it.
But Jamil is going to learn now.Yeah, I like they get done to
talking about the effects of theNameless, and Jamil opens up
about his experience and how it felt like the good and the warm
things were being sucked out andhow the force was gone.
It's like, poor thing, awful. And Kildo, of course, reminds

Jamil that the Force is always with them and that that can't be
so I'm like. Is that true?
I know it's. Confusing because like the force
is always with them, but the force could be sucked from them,
so there's a force still around them while the force within them
is being sucked dry. That's literally I feel like we
could do an entire 2 hour episode on what the hell it

(58:31):
means between the force and the nameless.
It's so confusing but in a like it makes me very curious way.
Not in a like annoying way, but.Yeah, well, it's like Elsar and
a far. We're like pouring the force
into the Nameless and drowning them in a sense.
So like, where is it going? Where do they?
Put all of that, you know? Yeah, right into the love

(58:52):
handles for the nameless. Oh my God, they're little
spines. Yeah, I thought this was a very
cute scene. The sun rises, everyone wakes
up. We like see Tapped Up is feeding
her turtle what she has named Banzo.
Banzo. Tapped up, I love you so much.
And of course, they all notice that Churro's acting a lot more
nervous than normal, but they shrug it off as just stress from

(59:15):
everything that has happened andthey continue onwards on their
turtles to Turtle Cove. No, they finally make it right.
They make it to the outpost and Jamil feels a sharp jolt of fear
from Churro and but then Churro lies when asked what's wrong and
I don't remember what he makes up.
But I'm also not sure what it isthat caused him to feel fear.

(59:36):
Was he just thinking about like,Oh my God, I got to figure out a
way to contact my sister? Like I'm not sure.
That was kind of my impression is that he was like, crap, we're
here, I have to go, maybe. Either that or he felt his
backpack move a little bit. Oh my.
God, I hope it's not that. And he was like, shit I'm
running out of. Tia for real.
They make it to this this diner,right?

(59:58):
And Zinni hears something that'skind of slightly covered up by
some Thunder, but they finally end up hearing it clearly.
And it's someone yelling for help.
And I was like, Oh my God, the reunion.
And it's happened. Yeah, they're going to
lightsaber through the bunker. Like this is awesome.
No, that's not what happened at all.
Instead, they tricked me. So right, you got me.

(01:00:19):
They find someone stuck under some shelves and are like, Oh my
God, we got to help her out. And I was like, no, please, no.
And unfortunately, it is not thesister any of the members of the
bunker. It is.
It's Hayes. It's Hayes.
I know which means her devious plot of whatever it is is
starting. Yep, but they're in the whiner.

(01:00:40):
So maybe like, how far down is this dunker dunker bunker that?
Dumb bunker. Is it like one of those like
crazy bunkers that's like 50 feet down, or is it like right
underneath the diner so you can hear everything that's going on
above you? It's got to have really thick
concrete walls, right? Or like dura steel or whatever.

(01:01:01):
So I imagine it being a more like crazy one only because
otherwise the nameless probably would have like come and hover
over them for a lot right? Like that's.
A good point, yeah. I don't know, I feel like, but
we also don't know if the Jedi whose name I am blanking on, I'm
the worst of Rollin. Rollin.
We don't know if Rollin was still freaking out when she got

(01:01:24):
in the bunker. That would help clarify how
crazy the bunker is, I think. But but yeah, that's it.
We're going to have to find out next episode what Hayes is up
to, whether or not the bunker people are going to get out and
there's going to be a reunion ornot.
So yeah, there's a lot to come. This was very exciting.
I always, always loved the Middle Crate novels.

(01:01:47):
They're so good. I always think of them so fond,
like. There's like a moment to with
this. Whatever chapter that was, it
was the one where the Nameless were chasing them and like I had
to stop taking notes and just read.
So I was just like what is happening?
There was a lot of like back andforth between that old stuff and
I was just like, wow, this is sointense.
It's very intense. And I, I mean, we talked about

it online right after we posted that video that you made where
it's like the middle grade novels have so much good stuff
in them. And just because they're
designed to be understood by kids doesn't mean they're only
for kids. There's so much in here for any
Star Wars fan of any age. It's just telling you that
