(00:24):
Music. Well, welcome everyone.
Welcome to the Bitches of Death and Mirror Podcast.
My name is Rachel. And I'm Jen, and yeah, welcome
to the podcast. We're talking High Republic
print media. That's kind of our shtick,
right? It is, yeah.
We talk about The High Republic, and right now we're talking
(00:44):
about some comics. I know last time we kind of
teased about talking about some audio dramas, but we ended up
looking at the timelines and honestly, I feel like we both
kind of forgot about the main line comics for a minute and how
we didn't finish it. So we're both like, Oh my God,
we have to go back to the comics.
And I'm especially glad that we did because so many of these
(01:07):
issues really tied into what we were just reading about.
And Tears of the Nameless. It was so perfectly timed with
Tears of the Nameless so love that it all worked out.
But I did for sure forget about.I know it's like, I'm so sorry,
Kevin Scott, I love your work, but there's a lot in High
Republic and it's very easy to forget things.
(01:31):
Before we get into that, we talkabout Star Wars news and there's
there's a lot of Star Wars news. There are, I guess the one thing
I'm really excited about is how Andor won four Emmys.
One was in outstanding special visual effects, the other
outstanding picture editing, theother production design.
(01:54):
And lastly, I was super excited.Well deserved was fantasy sci-fi
costumes. Those costumes are amazing.
I feel like people look at the total nominations, like the 22,
and they look at four wins as like a loss.
And I'm like guys, they just got4 Emmys for a Star Wars show.
Yeah, exactly. That's incredible that we got
(02:17):
Emmys. So like don't worry about the
other things that they didn't get.
There was a lot of like really big competition this year with
some of the other shows going onand like I'm just proud that
they got recognition at all and the fact that they and one floor
is fantastic so. Yeah, I was excited too.
Honestly, that is the biggest update other than personal Star
(02:39):
Wars news, which is I have decided to kind of scrap the
direction I was going with with my Boca Tan costume and ask for
someone to paint the armor for me.
Really proud. Of you.
Thank you. It was a really hard choice to
make, but I've been so busy and I have 20 million projects and
(03:01):
there's people out there that are so talented with painting
that already like have all of the paints ready.
Like because like there's so many different layers of
painting Bogatan's armor and like everyone has different
methods, but the correct method is actually to pre mix your
(03:21):
paint. And I just don't have the mental
capacity to think about that right now and to make mistakes.
And I've already painted my armor and I've messed up and I
had someone tell me I had to redo it and that was really hard
to take and I was ready to do it.
But the same time, like if I canpay someone to do the correct
like who already has the correctpaint is ready to go, then I'm
just going to go for that so. You have a whole full time life
(03:45):
outside of Star Wars, and so thefact that you get as much done
as you do is already impressive.Thank you.
Thank you. So I'm excited.
I actually should get that sooner than I ever expected.
I actually should be done maybe end of October, November, which
is wild to think about. I've been working on this
costume for four or five years. I am so confidence.
(04:10):
Thank you. It's gonna be amazing.
And thank you. Personal Star Wars news on your
end. You got to go to Disney.
Is this your first time since the blocked summer or did you go
before? It actually was the first time
since the blocked summer and it was so great.
It was exceptionally hot. All three Suns were out above
Batu and they were reading, radiating their very awful heat
(04:33):
on to me. I hated it.
But luckily there's lots of AC. Like Ogus Cantina is wonderful
and like the queue inside Rise and Smugglers Run are very
lovely. So it was a lot of like hopping
back and forth between the different AC areas.
That's really exciting. I'm glad you got to go on rise
(04:53):
with the resistance because that's always a hit or miss
whether you can stand in line for that one.
Right. I know that one is said it was a
50 minute wait, but it ended up being a lot less than that.
And it's partly because the first part of the first section,
you know, where you walk into the main area and like there's a
transmission from Ray and pose like I'm going to escort you to
(05:16):
blah, blah, blah. And you go on to the transport
shuttle. And then you get sucked into the
tractor beam by the 1st Order. So that whole section was cut
out. And it was funny because you
went through this like side doorand it literally like spits you.
You go through this hallway and it spits you right out to where
(05:39):
the main stormtrooper scene is. So I was like.
Is it broken? Is this just temporary or are
they? Like it must have been broken.
So this was their instead of like completely closing the
ride. This was like their their fix, I
guess. But I didn't I didn't mind too
much. It was kind of cool to see a
different part of that ride thatI hadn't seen before, like the
(05:59):
behind the scenes, if you will. Well, we got a new clip this
week from Lego Star Wars Rebuildthe Galaxy.
Oh, I haven't seen that yet. Yeah, it.
Do you want a spoiler? It had Darth Revan in it.
So, people. God.
Losing their minds. Of course they are.
Yes, so nice nod to the Knights of the Old Republic and the
(06:24):
series premieres soon. It's September 19th.
Oh my gosh, that is soon. Yeah, I'm excited we're going to
get something because it's just like we're in this drought
period post Android. Yeah, super exciting.
I'm wearing this shirt on purpose.
This was very purposeful becauseissue 9 of Legacy of Vader came
out and Rachel, I'm, I'm really unwell, you know what I mean?
(06:44):
Like in a good way. Yeah, you've got a new cosplay
you need to do, right? Girl yes, now I really want to
do Tava Ran. She's a fucking bad bitch and
she's got long red hair. Her helmet is full of shit,
she's wearing these like saggy pants and boots and I'm like I
love you, I love everything about your aesthetic.
(07:05):
You seem awesome. Couldn't tell how tall she was.
I hope you're tall. I need AI, need a tall bitch in
there. But.
My impression she was tall. Wasn't she almost the same
height as Kayla? That would be cool.
But yes, that has gone on my list along with I have a secret
one I haven't told anybody about.
I'm going to keep that one. But that was the first thought I
(07:26):
had was I have to do this. I have to to this character.
She's awesome. I deeply hope that she survives.
What's to come? Well, OK, so this is also where
I get that they're the same height thing.
Oh yeah, look, no, they're, they're together right here.
Oh, girl. Oh, she's a little shorter, but
not by much. So we got, we got a, we got a
(07:48):
big bitch. Yes, yes.
OK, doing it. I'm gonna tower over all of you.
Can't wait. It's.
Gonna be great, amazing issue. I really want us to cover all
those at some point because they're just so good.
So yeah, thank you so much to everyone involved in the legacy
of Vader comics who brought thatto life.
And the most exciting thing about that issue besides that
(08:10):
was we got a scene in there thatI immediately was like, that's
from The Force Awakens. So we actually see one of the
scenes from Ray's vision when she touches the light Saber.
We see what was happening when she saw the Knights of Ren and
Kylo in those visions. But we never got an answer to
what that scene was. And everybody, you have to
(08:30):
rewatch that. Yeah, there's a scene of them in
the rain. And everyone assumed because it
was kind of piled up with a couple other, you know, like
shots or whatever, everyone assumed that was maybe like
happening whenever the temple burned down and maybe he all the
Knights were together and there was all this, like, theories
about what that could have been. But then after the Rise of Kylo
(08:53):
Ren came out and we found out that the Knights were not old
students, it was like, what was that scene?
We have no idea what that scene is.
And now we know which is. This one, OK, that's.
That's from The Force Awakens, which is so cool, so deeply.
Exciting. Wow.
And it also explains their absence in The Last Jedi, which
(09:16):
is really cool. I love that too.
I, I just love that we're seeingI, you know, people can argue
all day about like where are plot holes?
And I'm like, you know, guys, whether it was planned or
unplanned and they're just plugging holes, I don't care.
It's super fun. Like just let it be what it is.
Don't get me started on Star Wars and plot holes and how it's
(09:37):
like a novel thing to the sequels.
Like give me a break. Seriously, we could do an entire
episode, probably several a series on plot holes and Star
Wars and it's fine because it's sci-fi fantasy.
We kind of have endless opportunities to read books and
comics that fill in some of these gaps and it makes it fun
For me. I'm like, I don't want a one and
(09:58):
done. I don't want everything handed
to me on a silver platter. Leave me some.
This sounds weird. I was going to say leave me some
holes. I don't know.
So anyway, moving on from the holes and I'm so sorry.
Great, I love it. I have two more and then I'm
(10:19):
done talking. Except for, you know, the
comics. Super interesting.
Didn't know there was a graphic novel out there in the universe
about George Lucas and the making of Star Wars.
But it was, yeah, it was made inFrance in 2023.
So there's a French graphic novel about young George Lucas
out there. And the only reason I know this,
(10:40):
and I'm bringing it up is because we found out this week,
this past week or so, that we'regetting an English translation.
I was like, this is the most random thing I've ever heard.
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about that.
I. Wanted to mention that because I
thought it was odd. If anyone out there has more
knowledge about what that is, please message us.
I would love to hear about why that exists.
(11:03):
Lastly, just wanted to mention since we talked about comics on
the regular, there's a new series out on YouTube right now
that I think our listeners wouldreally enjoy.
It's called The Comic Shop, a workplace comedy, and it's about
a black-owned comic shop struggling to stay afloat in Los
Angeles. And I bring it up because it was
crowd funded, which is just incredible because from reading
(11:24):
about the project, it really when it was pitched to studios,
a black woman pitching a show about nerddom and people of
color in nerddom was not supported by major studios,
which is not surprising, but very disappointing, you know?
And so in order to get this off the ground, they did a
Kickstarter campaign and raised over $200,000, which is
(11:47):
fantastic. Amazing.
Yeah, and I love that. And you can watch I think the
first two episodes are out and they're on YouTube.
It's awkward Virgos TV YouTube channel.
Or you can just like look at comic shop, a workplace comedy
in the search bar on YouTube. Just wanted to mention it.
Go support the show and like check it out.
I'm going to because it has a bunch of things in it that I
(12:08):
love and I want to see what the funny is all about.
So. Yeah, send me the link.
I'd love to see that. Yes, absolutely.
That actually reminded me of another comic that just came
out. It's the Han Solo, Hello and
Chewy series, but the search forthe Millennium Falcon.
I don't know if that's a full title, but it's like to that
extent. Yes, I completely forgot about
(12:28):
that. Thank you.
I know you're welcome. Nothing about it.
I saw a cover photo for. It I bought the comic and it's
sitting on my to read section somaybe I'll give you an update
next time. Please do.
Oh my God. All right, so we are going back
into the, we call them the adultcomics.
It's not adult. It's the main line.
(12:50):
Yeah, I always say that and hatethat.
I say adult comics. It's just the main line comics.
I think we'll do a little refresh, and by that I mean
reading out the scroll that starts the comic.
Do you have that handy? Absolutely, yes.
So this is issue 6 and it's titled The Haunted Chapter 2.
(13:13):
Back to the Light Jedi Keeve Trenis and her reluctant
companion Lorna Dee have found Keeve's former master Skier.
But the trend Ocean is not the Jedi.
He was barely able to control himself and attacking everyone
in his path. But as Keeve and Lorna Dee or
Lorna discover, Skier is protecting someone or something
(13:34):
or someone. Meanwhile, the rest of Keeve's
party is assaulted by a child ofthe storm, able to manifest
their deepest fears. Attacked by a nameless Gunrahl,
Monshi only survives thanks to the intervention of a mysterious
stranger who claims to be their only hope of getting off the
(13:54):
planet alive. An aged Sefi known as Tay Cerik.
My favorite Sefi. Love love love Tay.
So excited that this comic, like, still included him because
I think in our brains we didn't think we'd see him again because
we saw him in Phase 2. And that's like, just kidding,
he's still alive. I love that so much.
(14:15):
It's I do too. And I was excited to see where
this part of his kind of journeyis going because we don't know
what he's been up to, you know, up until this point.
So I we're going to find out. Yeah, before we get into that,
can I talk about the creators, the writers, artists and all
that? Do since it's been 20 episodes
(14:37):
or so since we've talked. Well, not only that, but the
artists are different for each issue that we read this for 6-7
and eight. So the writers the same.
That's Kevin Scott. The artists for issue 6 are Jim
Tao and Laura Braga. The colorist is Jim Campbell.
Letterer is VCs Ariana Maher. Maher, I'm sorry, I pronounce
(14:59):
that very incorrectly a lot. And then Phil Noto is the cover
artist for the main cover. And yeah, so those are the
artists for this issue. And it's, it's really cool to
see the different styles betweenthe different ones too, yeah.
I love it. Yay.
Thank you. You're welcome.
We're back. Right.
We're back on Kendasorn. Yeah.
(15:21):
I think so too. Yeah, it's not.
About that. Yeah, who knows?
Our pronunciations are always all over the freaking place.
But this is the OZ. Our gang is stuck in the
occlusion zone. Well, stuck on purpose, kind of
like themselves in this situation.
Wanted to go rescue skier and they all went together.
But now they've gotten themselves in this weird
(15:43):
situation you just described where they've run into a
nameless and a child with a storm.
And now they're finding out whatskier's been up to.
And it's it's a lot going on forthis group.
And then to have a random stranger pop in and be like, hey
guys, I've got a hand and that does magical, mystical things.
But I'm a good guy, I swear. I know.
(16:05):
Poor Jedi are probably just like, so exasperated at this
point. Like can somebody write out an
itinerary please? They can't handle all the
different surprises that keep coming their way.
Especially Sarah and Tarek are really struggling with this new
Tay Cerec that's here. And they don't especially like
(16:26):
that he's holding a Sith artifact.
And again, that's the hand of Cibberis.
And then I guess when they're talking, they notice that Tay is
holding or has a light Saber attached to his belt, and they
freak out about that as well. And I can't remember which one,
it's either Tarek or Sarah triesto force snatch it away, but
(16:46):
luckily Tay is able to hold on to it and be like, you're not
taking that from me because it belongs to someone who is very
important to me. And I was like, it's build our
Max lightsaber. I wasn't ready for this next
section because we get a flashback.
We're going back to the time of Phase 2, right?
I was not expecting this flashback at all.
(17:09):
And I screamed when I saw I was so excited.
Yeah, well, like the so we go tothe convocation building on
Jeddah and I've missed the convocation of the Force.
They were the coolest, like, like thing on Jeddah and I, I
loved all the different parts ofthe forest religions and like
how they interact with one another.
(17:29):
So I was very excited to get back here.
I guess they're sitting around at the convocation rate and Tay
is now kind of a part of the convocation, but the.
Representative of the regular people, yeah.
I think they still kind of view him as not really, which is
lame. It almost seems like they don't
(17:51):
allow him to do anything becausethat sucks.
Yeah, and he's like, hey, so Jeddah's burning again because
they're having this issue, right, with somebody setting
homes and businesses on fire. And it's a force group, but it's
a force group not affiliated with the convocation, so they
don't really know what they're dealing with.
And Tay wants to like, go stop it before it gets out of hand.
(18:15):
This place has had enough of this kind of shit.
And he's like, we should be dealing with this.
And by we, I mean me because I'mof the people was kind of the
vibe he was putting out. It's a good point and I agree
with Tay and unfortunately no one agrees with Tay including
Vildar. And that was so awkward because
they all have a vote and everyone votes against Tay and
(18:37):
Tay just kind of like storms off.
Like, OK, I guess I'm just useless here because I'm not a
force sensitive, force wielding entity.
It's like no Tay. I know.
And I mean, no, he feels like noone takes him seriously because
his connection to the force is not as strong as everybody else.
So he strolls into a restricted area at the temple of the Khyber
(19:00):
and is confronted by an archivist.
And he's like, yeah, I'm here onofficial convocation duty.
And the archivist is like, oh, but protocol, because they
always need to ask about protocol.
So Tejas expedites the situationby punching him in the face.
And knocking him out as you do. OK, well yeah, you can skip
(19:20):
protocol if you punch someone and knock them.
Out and like you don't see what he's grabbing, but he opens up a
cabinet and he reaches in for something and then that's all we
see from that scene. So yeah, we later move on.
It's like evening time. We're in the Wayfarer corridor
(19:42):
on Jetta and we find this freewilder that that mysterious
entity that's like burning things to the ground and they're
intimidating the citizen for notpaying the now Nimoy syndicate.
So that sucks. So I guess the the first user's
name is Zervo and he threatens to burn down the citizen and
(20:06):
all. Of their sacred artifacts, Lady
Serenade, which is the person that they, the complication
decided to send heads up heads there.
And I guess she can do somethingcool where she can like force
project herself all over the place.
I thought it was a whole group of them and I was like, wow,
they're all wearing the same outfit, same hair, they all look
(20:28):
identical. Like what's happening?
There were a lot of names and words thrown out in these couple
pages that I was just like, OK, what?
Why? When, How?
But anyways, this is Lady Serenade and she ends up trying
(20:48):
to like reason with Zervo. This doesn't work.
Zervo still sets the citizen andhis booth on fire and I guess
Lady Serenade and Zervo fight. But Lady Serenade is about to go
down in flames when Zervo is suddenly hit by purple
electricity. Who could be?
This day. And what could he have done that
(21:09):
with? Not only the hand of Siberas.
This is kind of a Lord of the Rings situation, right?
Where like you put this thing onand it corrupts you a little
bit. And so we know that Tay is not
supposed to be using this, and Tay does not give a fuck.
It makes me wonder like because the last time we saw Tay wield
(21:33):
this, he went really crazy and it made me wonder if it's like
the Lord of the Rings situation where it like calls to him and
it's like Tay. Just whispers from the archives.
He's like, must go to the archives.
OK we can't have fun forever though because like he attacks
the enforcer with it but sweet builder Max steps in in that
(21:56):
situation to stop Tay from usingthe hand and he like puts his
lightsaber to his throat is liketake.
That. Off and I was like oh shit and
he does but serenade is like heyFYI I'm definitely telling on
you to the confrontation and builders.
Like don't worry, I'm telling them myself.
(22:17):
I know and I pays in a lot of trouble.
I know. So sometime later, after this
conversation with a complicationthat's not a mouthful at all,
Builder goes and finds Tay, who's sitting alone in his room.
And I really like the artwork for this one particular panel
(22:39):
where you see Tay. He's like, it's dark and he's
surrounded by candles and his whole face is shadowed so it
gives you like a clear image of what his mental state is.
It's like so good. So broody.
Well. He's he's had a hard day.
He's very sad. It's OK.
He won't be sad forever. Why?
(23:00):
Why would he not be sad? Well, because they decide to
just kiss and make up. Pardon.
I was so shooketh in the best way about this.
I'm not seeing when I say kiss and make up, they full on make
out in this little panel. And I was like, oh, that's why
(23:20):
Tay is so pissed. It's not just the convocation.
It's the fact that somebody he'sobviously in some form of
relationship with went against him and that's why he's in his
room brooding. And that's why Vildar is coming
to be like, I'm sorry, but you're wrong.
And so, yeah, Tay apologizes andthey kiss and life, it's fine
and great and wonderful. It's.
(23:41):
Interesting, because I almost. Well, OK, so Take goes on to
explain how. What does he say?
Vildar says that Tay could neverfall too far because there's
always a way back. And then Tay eventually explains
how Vildar taught him how to usethe Hand of Sibiris.
(24:01):
So it's so crazy to, like, see this scene and to, like,
understand that this is Vildar saying I accept you for what
you've done, and I'm actually going to help you find a way
through this. Unbelievable.
Yeah. We moved back to the present,
and Tay notices Gunrall is really not doing well, so he
renders him unconscious again. Like Tay is a sefi who has that
(24:24):
really cool pheromone that can basically make someone slip into
a conscious unconsciousness to the point that they look dead.
Not sure what that is about. It's the most morbid like
ability to. Have it protects them for
predators it's okay. If somebody gets rabies, it's
gonna be, it's really gonna comein handy because that's like the
(24:46):
only way to overcome rabies oncethe symptoms hit is to go into a
coma. So Tay, it's your time to shine.
It's just saying if one of the nameless has.
Rabies. I thought about that.
That is so. Funny, I love.
This so much just Tay just like going after animals with rabies.
Thank you, Tay. Well, we get some explanation.
(25:09):
Tay explains how Hitar is part of the Children of the Storm.
That's that one kid that made everybody see crazy visions and
how they're they used to be a fallen Nazi which is where she
gets that ability from. At Baron Bulin kidnapped her and
other force sensitive children which is why Tay is here.
(25:29):
Tay is here to stop Baron Bulin from kidnapping any more
children. I mean, perfect timing for this
story because who happens to runup in that moment besides Skier,
Keev and Lorna coming up with a child that I'm assuming Skier is
trying to prevent from being kidnapped and is protecting,
right? And so they reveal the child and
(25:49):
they're like, look, we must protect her.
This is what Skier is doing. But she sees the dead nameless
and just loses. It Yeah.
And that's where that issue is, man.
That was a great issue. Loved issue 6.
I did a lot of smiling during this issue.
Well, in issue 7, this is titledChapter 3, Bomb of the
(26:15):
Illuminus. Like, ah, what might that to be?
The difference for this one is the artist is now I can't
pronounce his name. And I even in my head was like,
how am I going to pronounce this?
It's MARIKA. Is it Marika or Marika?
It might be Marika. Marika OK Marika Christa is the
(26:36):
artist for this one and I reallyloved her artwork.
She was really good with expressions in this issue.
And it's fun. We get different scrolls for
these, which is really nice. So it's not the same thing
repeated over and over again. We get little like updated one.
I will get through that as quickas I can.
Jedi Master Keith Tranis has been reunited with her former
(26:59):
teacher, the troubled Tran OceanSkier.
Skier has been protecting a young Yakkom Yakomi girl from a
relentless Nihil hunter who has been abducting children with
Force abilities. Now their number has grown with
the arrival of the mysterious Tape Syrac, A wanderer with deep
connections to the Jedi of old and an ancient Sith artifact
(27:20):
known only as the Hand of Sybaris.
All is going well as Kiev and Skier introduced the Akon girl
to the group, until the silent youngling sees the corpse of a
recently killed Nameless and reacts with the surprising power
that can only come from the Force.
I don't know why this is surprising to them because they
maybe it's because I know Baron Bulin has been collecting force
(27:41):
sensitive children. So I'm like of course this girl
is going to be force sensitive and is able to wield the Force.
Is this one of those like the Jedi only think the Jedi can use
the force to this level or what?Like how did they not sense it?
Yes and like it's interesting tome that they were surprised.
Maybe they were just surprised at the level of which she was
(28:02):
able to react cuz the first panel is them all getting
blasted back. And they're all freaking out.
Yeah. Orbelin and Derek throw up hands
slash marshmallow goo. To stop the.
Blow and Orbelin explains that the Yacom are powerful people
and they were once believed to be a line to the dark side of
(28:22):
the Force. So for Orbolin, he's like, yeah,
of course she's this powerful this young.
Like that's pretty normal for their people.
Which is cool. That is so cool.
Sarah is not a fan. They ignite their lightsaber and
they're very determined to subdue this little girl I guess.
But Skier immediately ignites his lightsaber protect to
protect the girl and I guess he's still holding 1 of Keeve's
(28:45):
like half lightsabers which is kind of cute.
And that's when Orblin decides to like rap.
I I couldn't figure out what Orblin was.
Is he gelatinous? Is he?
What is he? In this issue he's giving Mr.
Fantastic vibes. I that's not quite.
I imagined him a little gooier before.
(29:06):
This almost makes him look like rubber bandy, right?
What am I thinking of? Like that old movie?
Was it flubber stop? Oh, actually, he does look a lot
like Flubber now that I'm thinking about.
(29:26):
Holy shit. With the same abilities to like
anyways, Orbalance wrapped as like weird tendrils around Skier
to kind of like hold him in place.
But this just pisses skier off even more.
He goes into full rage mode and charges at Orbaline.
Luckily he was able to calm him down with just holding his hand
and I know and Kiev is able to get both Skier and Sarah to stop
(29:52):
fighting. Just love.
Kiev being not like skier is mentally ill.
Sarah, what's your excuse for this behavior?
That was so great. Love, love.
Yeah, Sarah is pissed, and they argue that they were just trying
to defend the light. And Kiev goes delight from what?
This little girl who's huddled in Lorna Dee's arms.
(30:14):
Which most amazing picture ever because Lorna the look on her
face is so interesting. It's kind of like.
Lorna we haven't seen. Oh my God, I knew it was there
the whole time. It's just like surprise and I,
it's so great. Keith was just pissed at
everyone. She kind of like yells at
everyone for different things. She tells them that they have to
(30:34):
stop fighting. And what does it mean when a
little girl would rather be comforted by a mass murderer
than the Jedi? And like, what does that mean
about how far the Jedi have fallen?
And. And like how bad it looks from
the outside looking in. Yeah, does this little girl
would rather take comfort from Lorna Dee than the Jedi who are
trying to kill her? Awful.
Yeah, it really is. And it's because it's so awful.
(30:57):
This next part is not funny. It just for some reason struck
me funny because it was such a like they're fighting and
arguing back and forth and then Orbaland's like, hey guys.
So while we were all being Dicksto each other, I think Goon Raw
definitely fucking dies. Made me laugh even though it's
(31:18):
so sad, it's so. Sad.
And Oberlin is like, yeah, his heart broke from all of our
bickering. It's like, Oh no.
I love imagining that they just like couldn't figure out quite
how to do his death scene and they were like, we can't put
another panel in this. It's already really long.
What if just passes from heartache like Padme style but
off screen you know? Yeah, so good.
(31:45):
Yeah, well, later, Skier and theYokom girl are standing in front
of a funeral pyre where Gunrall is being burnt.
Tay walks up to Skier, who is inabsolute no mood to talk, but
Tay starts talking to Skier anyways.
Tay tells Skier he understands how Gunrall's death must be so
difficult. But Tay has a way to help Skier.
(32:07):
He takes out the bomb of Luminous.
And these are special bandages that have words written all over
them. And you're supposed to recite
these words when you wrap their bandages around yourself to help
bind yourself to the light. And I was like, wow, this is so
cool. Very cool.
Yeah, apparently this these bandages were first mentioned in
Dooku Jedi Lost, which is also abook written by Kevin Scott.
(32:30):
Also, I'm fully shipping Tay andskier.
The way that Tay kept saying bigfella or big guy was something
that he called Vildar all the time.
And like, OK, I took screenshotsbecause like, look at the way
he's wrapping his arms. Stop.
OK, well, I don't know how I didn't pick up on that.
I usually usually do and that iswonderful.
(32:55):
And what is? What would their name be?
This was what I was wondering. Getty.
Gay gay. Gay.
Either that or tears. To cure?
I don't know. It doesn't quite work but I'm
curious now to see if that's gonna cuz he is very like, I
(33:16):
don't know, he's very caring towards this person.
He really does not know. Totally.
And I wonder if it's because he sees parts of either Vilbar in
him or parts of himself or. Yeah, it's very cute.
Well, Keeve is watching this interaction of what did we call
their couple's name? Ski.
(33:38):
Ski. But Keev is feeling a little
guilty that she's not the one that's able to help skier in
this moment. Then she tells Tarek that she's
going to take the first watch while everyone sleeps because
this is all her responsibility and she needs to be the one that
does that. And it's crazy how she keeps
putting all of this responsibility onto her
(33:59):
shoulders and she's so awful at asking for help.
It's very Jedi of her. And literally was just going to
say, this is such a typical Jedithing, to put all this burden on
your shoulders until it gets tooheavy to carry.
And like, that's just not good, guys.
We got to stop doing this totally.
I love the artwork in this section.
(34:21):
We get like these little clips of everyone sleeping.
It's so cute. It's adorable, I love it so
much. We can't have good things last
long though, because. No.
I'll keep us on watch. She's hearing this like scratch
noise and I hate it and it's driving her crazy and she's like
where the hell is this coming from?
(34:42):
Like looking around, looking around, and suddenly a claw
burst through the ground. So terrified.
I was like, the Nameless is still alive, it's coming back.
Like what is happening? I know I was like obviously it
just zombie nameless and now they're all screwed.
It's. Like the nameless were bad
enough living not and then to make a zombie nameless on top of
(35:05):
that? Like what?
Yeah, she's going through it andshe hears the rest of the gang
like get up up behind her and she turns around, but the gang
is unwell because everyone, everyone is a husk and skier as
a husk is like, I knew you'd be the one who'd get us all killed
or you'd like kill us all. And Keith starts turning to dust
(35:28):
while this is happening. And I like I knew this was a
dream sequence because I was like, there's there's multiple
issues left. If they husk everybody, there
wouldn't be anything left to talk about.
High Republic and then it's titled Husk Zombies attack.
We just get a couple piles of ash for the rest of the story.
(35:51):
Yeah, goodness, yeah. I'm.
I'm so glad that Keith finally recognizes that this is a dream.
She snaps out of it and not onlythat, Keith quickly realizes
that it's that child of the storm that caused the visions
and that she must be here somewhere.
Of course. Like they look up and Oh my God
(36:13):
this creepy ass child of the storm is like on the wall
scurrying away with the little girl.
I hated that also. Yeah, wall like weird wall
climbing freaks me out and they were definitely doing it while
carrying a child with them. I did love though.
(36:34):
They like, you know, all are awake now and like making a
ruckus and the child of the storm is like, Oh no, the brave
and noble Jedi have spotted me. Whatever shall I do?
I loved that line. That was so good.
Yeah, well, Tay goes to strike at Qatar with the hand of
(36:56):
Sybaris, but Lorna pushes him away and it allows.
So the this child of the storm is what Tay described earlier as
being Hitar. So Hitar is able to run away and
skiers piss, and he takes off running and sadly, he can't find
them. It's like they've both
(37:17):
disappeared. Yeah, now he's just pissed at
Lorna because he's like, you're the reason you stopped Tay from
using the hand. We could have gotten the child
with Storm and gotten my kid basically back and you let her
go and Sarah and Tara kept to hold him back and Lorna is like,
yo, I'm on top of this while allof you are doing whatever.
(37:39):
I put a tracker like with the girl earlier so that when she
was taken, we could figure out where they're kidnapping and
taking all these kids to so chill about it.
And everyone is like, hey, so that's not cool.
You definitely just set this up for her to be bait.
Yeah, Lorna's like, what's your problem?
Literally. And she lets them have it.
(38:00):
And I kind of love it. I'm not saying she's doing the
right thing, but she's like, I know who I am.
The rest of you are just as broken and floundering around as
me. You just refuse to admit it.
She's like, I know exactly who Iam.
Who are you guys? But you know, Keith does kind of
come back at her. Yeah, Keith is like, do you know
(38:22):
who you are? And Lorna is just like of
course, the. I mean, it was interesting that
she admits in this moment she's like, you know, I, I'm the
person who really did listen when somebody told me I could
change to be better. And I was like, girl, you lying.
You have to be lying right now. But maybe she's not.
But maybe, I don't know. Yeah, she's making it seem like
(38:45):
she is with this gang of people right now and trying to be
better. And we'll see if that is
actually the case of what's happening.
But at this moment, she's like, yeah, I thought I was going to
be in really good company and none of you are doing anything
good right now. You're all a hot expressed.
So I'm not even sure why I bothered.
You know, I'm like, that's OK. It's totally valid, Yeah.
(39:07):
Lorna is only here because she wants to be pardoned and be on
her merry way and do her own thing.
But there she's definitely, I think, going above and beyond
that pardon in many ways. And I think maybe this Yokom
girl is like the the point of where she's going to tip more
towards the other direction, hopefully.
Who knows? I don't know.
Well, unfortunately, the last couple pages we see where the
(39:28):
Yokom girl is taken, and she's taken to this room where there's
these large vials with floating nameless body parts inside.
And like, there's this table with more like, guts and blood
and nameless and like. Then there's like these little
children of the storm that look really creepy and they're like
(39:49):
arguing about what they should do with the girl.
And in walks Baron Boulin. He's so creepy.
I just love everything about this entire like situation.
For one, it reminds me of alien Earth right now, with all the
like vials of body parts and like creatures sitting in there.
(40:10):
It was very alien. And I was like, OK, OK.
I know I it's so funny because Ijust said alien Earth reminds me
of the High Republic and now here we are.
It's so good. But yeah, that's the end of
issue 7. Loved it.
I also love we need to post a picture of the art of Baron
(40:30):
Boulin, like that last kind of full shot we get of him, because
it's just gorgeous. I love it.
Yeah, me too. All right, we doing it.
We are on to issue 8 and this isChapter 4.
Baron Boulin and the info for this one.
Let me pull this up so I can actually read it.
(40:53):
The Jedi Hunt For months troubled former Jedi Master
skier has protected a small Jokom child.
But now the child has been abducted by one of the Niles
Children of the Storm. Help is at hand from the most
unlikely of sources. Or Nadi Grace, Tempest runner
and one time ally of Marky on Row placed a tracker on the
(41:15):
child before she was taken. Tracker the crew of the Ataraxia
can use to locate the child. But what are lornae true motives
and can she be trusted? Bum bum bum.
And the artist for this issue isJim Tao.
Well, first thing we see is a Nigh Hill ship.
Love that. Yeah, it's Shinku Station on
(41:38):
Chinle Prime in the Ozi. I don't know any of these places
besides Ozzy. It's somewhere in there.
And in a voiceover we get a little nod to the like.
I have a bad feeling about this bit that I feel like is ongoing
because the Jedi crew is nearby and they can feel nameless
aboard this station and it's like super strong.
(41:58):
It almost feels like Baron Boulin is intentionally
amplifying the effects of the nameless to the point where like
it's like a complete deterrent of Jedi.
Like get out, no Jedi allowed. So yeah, the Jedi are going to
end up staying on the anorexia, which they do not like because
Jedi don't. Like.
Doing that but yes thank you formaking smart decisions cause
(42:20):
Lorna, Tay and Skier are gonna go aboard instead.
Love that so great and skier has.
I don't know if it's his old Jedi robes or he found someone's
robes. I find that hard to believe
because he's not small. He is a big boy so I they have
to be his old robes or he likes really quickly stitched together
(42:43):
a couple other. It's like good rules, like 3
robes stitched together to make one.
He's just. Back in the ship Project Runway
on their way over to the station.
He's like, I got to get this outfit together.
I'm going to be naked. Yeah, that's OK, We can have a
naked scare running around. I deeply love that.
I'm just finding out that you are a little thirsty for skier
(43:04):
because I am also a little thirsty for skier and this makes
me really deeply happy. Took screenshots of how they
made the America. Marika I like made really great.
Like intentional like. What?
What's the reason? You know what?
Yeah. We'll have to post the loincloth
(43:26):
spot. I feel like because it is.
It is gratuitous, almost. And I'm like Marika I.
Know. Oh Skier.
Orbelin is a little worried about Skier's mindset and I love
that Skier just walks in while Orbelin is talking about him.
(43:47):
I feel like this keeps happeningand Orbolin just reminds skier
that they have no idea what's going to happen if Skier
encounters a nameless and Skier is like Nah brah I have already
done this and we see this reallycool panel of him fighting
against several nameless like there was at least.
Three yeah, that was insane. Yeah, Tay, Lorna and Skier are
(44:09):
already on their little shuttle that's heading down to the
station, but they can't access the station yet because the door
is locked. So Tarek is on the way to fix
the issue, and apparently they brought their little monkey bird
lizard creature with them back from that last planet.
Not only that, they've named this creature Chip Chaff, and
(44:30):
it's still sitting on their shoulder.
It's so precious. It's so.
Precious, but Sarah is a little snippy about it.
Not happy with this development.Sarah is just snippy about
everything so they just need to chill.
Yes. They do eventually get the door
open for the gang now, so we've got Yeah Skier and Lorna and Tay
(44:50):
and it's super creepy inside because there's dissected
nameless and jars everywhere. It's terrible.
And I think it's Lorna who was like, no, I don't like this.
He's just like this place is creepy as shit.
It's creepy and it's so sad. Lorna goes over to one of the
vials and she's staring at this dissected that it seems dead.
(45:12):
It has to be dead right? Because like it's skull is
ripped apart and it's in like 4 different chunks.
It also beautiful artwork. I loved it but also it's like
sad. It's super, super, super sad.
I felt like I had to learn a moment too where I was just
staring at it like this. Really a bummer.
But then you look at the art andyou're like, this is so cool, I
(45:35):
want this on my wall. Yeah, totally.
I like that we got confirmation that Scoot is still around.
I missed this little Droid so much.
So cute. So Scoot.
Scoot pops out of who knows where.
Anyways, Scoot connects to the station and pulls up the
(45:57):
cameras. And of course, they're able to
connect to where they can see the Yokom girl has been taken.
And they can. Not only that, they can see that
she's about to be experimented on by Baron Boulin.
It's not a good situation. Skier is pissed.
He wants to run in there and start ripping Baron Boulin's
head off, but Keith has to like talk him down and say hey, no,
(46:20):
no, no, we need the elements of surprise.
So Tay is able to recite the words of the Bomb of Luminous
and this really helps Skier calmdown and become more rational.
Lorna, meanwhile, is still looking at the dissected
nameless. And this thing is gnarly.
And like when we get this other look at it, there's multiple
skulls holes in there. Like if you look at it, there's
(46:43):
like one big skull split in two and then there's another
smaller. It was so strange and I have a
lot of questions. Yeah, cuz that's definitely like
a mutated something. Unless they have an extra skull
in there I don't know about, like I don't know what this
thing is. Especially since like most
skulls, like the, the tissue really forms around the skull
(47:07):
perfectly that you don't often have like like fat over the
skull. Because I was like, my first
like, is that the skin that's just like ripped away from the
skull and the, the skull is actually teeny tiny and there's
like all this weird like tissue.Over it.
Yeah, but I don't know what we're looking at at all.
But it definitely does look like4 skulls.
(47:28):
I it's, it's weird. And also Lorna as she's staring
at it, either sees it move or sees something that lets her
know that thing is alive and shedoes the dumbest thing you could
possibly do. I was like, Lorna, I love you so
much, you're my girl, but what are you doing?
(47:49):
She shoots at the container. Yep.
I don't think she actually successfully breaks into the
jar. The Nile immediately know that
there are intruders in the building in the shuttle wherever
the heck they are stationed, andBaron Bulan goes and tells
sister Hitar and Brother Urkak. RR.
(48:14):
KAK Urkak is weird. What species is that?
So it is not listed online. I tried to find it because I'm
kind of obsessed with this design, but there was no species
listed. No, it looks like if you stuck
the head of an Ant, but proportioned correctly, not like
(48:35):
Ant sized on top of a. Velocity, yes, 100%.
I even tried to like Google likesentient insectoid species in
Star Wars and there was everything but this species.
This. And they there is a page for him
on Wikipedia there is but no species listed.
(48:57):
And I was like, I need to know what this is because it's a
super cool. Design.
I know it has to be from somewhere.
They wouldn't just create a new species, would they?
Or would they? I mean, they might have.
It's not possible in the High Republic.
Yeah, that's so true. Yeah, Lorna kind of ruined the
element of surprise situation that they had going on her.
(49:17):
Explanation though she's like, I'm just so done with stealth.
And skier is on the same vibe. Skier is kind of like, you know
what, same. Let's just like, you know, she
says. Like how about raising Mary hell
instead? And I was, that was so great,
so, so much. And the gang of three hop right
into the action as the Children of the Storm approach and start
(49:39):
to fight them and they start getting into their heads a
little bit. The Qatar, I think is kind of
getting into their heads 'cause they each are kind of like
feeling some weird effects. Totally.
Yeah. And it's interesting that I
think it's art. I can't pronounce it at all.
Sure, Rikik is talking about howthe Jedi working with someone
(50:04):
like Tay who has this like Sith artifact and is touched by the
dark side and Lorna who is Lornais heresy to the Force.
Like on a religious level, it's like blasphemy or whatever.
And they refer to the Force as the mist, which I really like.
I like. That too.
(50:24):
But yeah, they're basically calling them like heresy, you
know, blasphemous, whatever. And that that's why they feel
they have to free the force fromthem and from the bad thing that
they're doing. They're just grasping at straws.
So delusional. They're like, This is why I'm
going to kill you. It's totally fine.
I'm I wonder what the mist is and what force like section that
(50:46):
is. That's so cool.
I really, really like that, and I just love when we hear other
names of what people refer to asthe Force.
I think it's super cool. Totally.
Me too, and even weirder cooler is Erkac extends his hand out
and I couldn't tell what these were like Spiderman threads or
(51:08):
just weird stringy strands whatever pop out of each of his
fingers and and they wrap aroundSkier.
And who does Skier ask for help?None other than Tay.
Babe, give me a hand. But Tay's busy because Tay is
fighting Qatar. So like, this would be a great
(51:30):
time for Lorna to help, but Lorna is conveniently missing.
I know where could she be? Meanwhile, Keeve is on the
innovator. She's freaking out and doesn't
know what to do. She can't handle this situation
and how chaotic it is and how she cannot do anything to help
them, so she just walks away from the others on the bridge.
(51:51):
We don't know where she goes. Jedi, right?
I was like, we know. We know what she's doing.
Yeah, she's going to go meditate.
Of course, she's going to centerherself, find her calm, and not
intervene in a situation that she shouldn't, right?
So back at the lab, one, the little like scientist, the reek
(52:11):
I think is the species of that one is telling the little girl
not to struggle while Baron Bulin watches.
And I just have to. I called him in my notes, Hot
topic. Baron Bulin.
Hot Topic Baron Bulin. I'm obsessed with his fit.
I want the top. I want it looks like something
you could go buy from Hot Topic.I swear it was so weirdly emo
(52:36):
punk and with his little like monocle thingy it almost looks
steam punky. It does.
But please go look at that picture and see the top I'm
talking about. I would love.
That it was not really looking at.
Oh my God, I see it now. It's so good.
But to be honest, I was so distracted by this mouse
(52:58):
humanoid with teeth. Yeah, that's reek or a reek.
I think I looked it up and reek is a species, but that's what
they refer to it as. So I don't know if they just
refuse to call it by its name orsomething.
I could not figure it out. It was, yeah, I couldn't tell
that was his name or what he was.
And he's got this weird like jetpack like robotic arm
(53:22):
extension, which must be how they do all of the
experimentation because there's like, it's like Edward
Scissorhands but with a robotic arm.
It's. Connected to a rat with circular
mouth with teeth. Just like Edward Scissorhands,
yeah. It's been a while since I've
seen it, but that sounds right. I'm also surprised there's a
(53:45):
nameless just wandering around the lab just and not right.
And it obviously wants to eat the girl.
It's just like staring at her. And they're like, no, no, we
want to do as many experiments as possible first before we let
you just ask her to just like, Oh my God.
They're also using the nameless to threatened the girl too and
(54:07):
say hey, if you don't comply, we're going to feed you to this
nameless. He's really hungry.
Poor, poor little girl. It's fine because Lorna appears
and threatens them to back off and I love she.
This is so not nice. You should not do this in real
life, but it's fine because it'sBaron Bulan.
She straight up tells him he's ugly, which again, do not ever
(54:31):
comment on someone else's appearance in real life.
But if you see Baron Bulan you can be like you hot topic ugly
ass motherfucker. Like that's fine, I just put
Lorna. If it can't be fixed in 10
seconds, don't comment on it. But Baron Baron is like don't
even talk to me. You're a kind of a traitor after
(54:52):
all. The night he'll have done for
you the your family and stuff. You're joining with this group
And also why do you care about this random?
Girl. Yeah, this, the interaction was
really interesting. I took Baron Boulin's words as
more like he's trying to manipulate and get under Lorna's
skin. Like, oh, welcome back to your
(55:13):
true family. And do you remember how much the
Rose were so good to you? And why are you hanging out with
these people? Is it because you have nowhere
to go? I love that interpretation
because I I put the like you have nowhere else to go.
But I didn't really pick up on like what is his purpose in
saying this to her besides getting her?
Very irritated, yeah cuz there'sthis moment where she like Lorna
(55:35):
looks shocked and it almost feels like bare and Boolean's
like yes I've got her and then she's like it's like ha ha, no
you don't and. This is like the most beautiful
art of Lorna that we've ever seen.
She looks just like awestruck, like she's looking at scare
naked or something. And I'm just kidding.
She looks very lost and vulnerable.
So you're like Lorna, You're OK.But yeah, she he asked her what
(56:00):
she needs that he can give her, and she says I need you to shut
the hell up. She's my fave.
It's so good and then pushing a button that causes a massive
explosion that goes off everywhere in the station and
everyone goes flying. Everyone.
Yeah. So what I'm assuming is that
(56:21):
when Lorna was gone, she wasn't just heading directly to the
lab. This girl Marathon sprinted
around the entire station and just threw bombs everywhere.
That's when. When else would she have done
that right? Oh yeah, totally an.
Olympic. Runner.
It's very Sabine in Rebels Love.Yeah, Lorna takes advantage of
(56:45):
everyone's like good distractionbecause not only is like the
whole station shaking, but there's fire everywhere and
parts of the station are collapsing, including parts of
the the ceiling collapse onto Baron Bulin and his demon mouse
thing, which allows Lorna to rescue the girl and run away.
(57:07):
And what she says I just love itcuz Baron is yelling after her
and she's like this is how I repay the eye by burning his
world too. Love it.
Yes. So good.
So good also. What's up with Baron getting mad
at Reek for not stopping her? Reek is the size of a Mongoose.
(57:28):
What is what is Rick gonna do like?
He's got his creepy little robotic arm.
I can just. See Lorna grabbing that and just
slinging him around. Wait, doesn't she RIP it off?
I think that's one of the first things she does.
Is she like, oh, does she? Really.
I didn't even write that down. That's so funny.
(57:49):
Yeah, that's very Lorna. So, like, what is Rick gonna do?
Come on. Exactly nothing.
So Rick is helpless. Not completely, nothing right,
but they do decide to let loose the nameless and the nameless
just takes off. After her.
I know, Especially since the Nameless pounces onto Lorna, and
(58:11):
both the girl and Lorna's sword get knocked out of her hands.
And the Nameless is, like, poised above Lorna as if to,
like, get ready to feed on her. Which is surprising Lorna.
But we've seen this happen before, so I'm thoroughly
freaking out. But then there's this flash of a
green light Saber, and off goes the Nameless's head.
Yeah, so I was like, Oh my God, his head is gone.
(58:32):
And then also, my God, it's Keith Tretis.
And she's. Like got a shell shocked look on
her face because she's giving the effects of the nameless and
so I'm like, how did you get it together enough to do this?
Yeah, and not injure Lorna on top of that too.
That's insane. Because it was like biting her
arm or like grabbing her arm. So I'm surprised she didn't also
(58:55):
take off her arm. Totally.
Yeah. She, Yeah, she's able to somehow
save Lorna. And I like that.
Lorna goes, Oh, you're much nicer than I would have been.
Lorna, those are inside. Thoughts.
I know, but Lorna tries to get Kiev to escape without the
others. But of course, this is not going
to fly over any Jedi's head, andKiev wants to go back and rescue
(59:19):
the rest of them. This is when Laura goes.
So that explosion was #1 and there are several more that are
coming. So we really need to get off
this station right now. All she really cares about is
that Bulin Station is destroyed. If people have to die, people
have to die like she does not. Care.
(59:40):
Yeah. So including herself, honestly.
Oh man, and that is the end of that issue.
What an exciting bunch of comics.
Like I love this. Yeah, these were so great.
I was so excited to see what happened with Skier and what his
(01:00:00):
progression was and I am excitedto see that like, he has some
way to like like. Stay towards the light.
Whether or not he's fully reunited with the Light at some
point, I don't know, but I love this progression for.
Him. Yeah, same.
And I loved Tay's story as well.Like, oh.
(01:00:23):
Kill me. Yeah, it was.
It was so cool to see the the lair of Baron Boulin.
We just read about it with Sicaris and could like kind of
visualize. So it's so cool to actually see
photos of what Baron Boulin's layer, maybe one of many layers
(01:00:44):
where he does all of his experimentations.
It's intense. You're talking about how it
timed out perfectly with readingTears of the Nameless.
And it's like in one of the scenes you can see that they've
basically drained a nameless. I'm assuming it's a nameless.
It's a pile of tissue on a table.
Basically they're draining the blood out of it into a bucket
like they're harvesting it. And we know that Sicharis gets
(01:01:05):
injected with nameless blood. And I was like, there it is.
Like they're bleeding these nameless out and doing crazy
experiments on them. And it's, it's sad and it's nuts
and Baron is crazy. And scary.
Oh yeah. All right, well, with that,
that's all of the comics we're going to do for this episode.
(01:01:25):
But next episode we're going to continue this story.
We're going to do it and we're going to do issue 9 and 10.
